(writing that was exhausting...)
i can imagine! you did good work though!
now, sit back, relax, and let me tell you a story from my travels.
it started when i was a girl. young, but not too young to forget. The year before this started, i had gone to Disney world with my family. Dressed as Cinderella in the swealtering heat, looking up at the tower of terror. shaking in my sneakers, hearing the screams, and thinking wearily of the elevator back in our hotel. Could an elevator really fall like that? I didnt have the words (or the guts) to ask. But that trip is a story for another time.
I'm in Pennsylvania with my family. It's a cool summer night, and our minivan had just arrived at our hotel late at night. I pack away my summer learning activity packet and grab my stuffed animals, ready to head up to the room. I was a pro at checking in at this point. I ran with my dad to get the trolly for our bags and helped pack our stuff onto it (helped as much as a little tike can, I was a twiggy little thing, still am [/pos. i love my body]) We catch up with mom and start to head up to the room. We made it just in time. It just started pouring outside, painting the pavement with headlights and stoplights. It was an inky, blurry, watercolor painting.
My brother and I chase to the elevator, hoping we can be the one to press the up button. The button lights up under his fingers. I hope i can press the floor number when we get inside. The bag trolly rolls awkwardly into the elevator, the wheels refusuing to turn, as they usually do ontop of hotel carpeting. I light up when I press the 4 button. The elevator pushes to life, lifting us up to our room. I dream of the plush matress waiting for me, the waffles in the continental breakfast, the pool that filled the lobby with the chlorinated smell that only public pools have.
My eyes snap open as the elevator shudders to a hault. Way too early for the 4th floor. The gears start turning in my head as I try to figure out what is happening.
My dad is pressing the call button, hoping for a response. Nothing happens. He presses the alarm button. Nothing happens. His face scrunches a bit in thought. Luckily, it was the 2000s. He pulls out his Blackberry (yes, obviously, its the 2000s). He checks with mom about the number for the hotel, and calls.
"Hello? Yes. Hi, we just checked in and we're in the elevator"
"No, we're in the elevator. It's the [insert name here lol]. No we Just checked in. Yeah, No. This isnt a prank or something. Did the power go out? Yeah. We're in the elevator. Can you call the fire department or something?"
My heart SINKS. Fire department? no power? so the elevator is... stuck? My heart quickens hearing the screams from disneyworld. when will the elevator drop? what will happen?
tears stream down my face. as i gasp for breath.
I cant remember a time in my life where i felt so much panic. I felt the impending doom as the lights above me flickered, likely powered by an emergency generator. Maybe I was scared when we did those speed multiplication tables, or when i presented to the class, but i never felt this level of dread. Impending doom.
my parents dont know whats happening in my mind. They likely didnt know about my anxiety. So they laugh it off an shrug. "Whelp! whatcha gonna do!" and make a joke about The Griswolds Vacation (a joke we constantly make when something goes wrong on road trips). I'm glad to say ive recently been able to adopt this mentality. I can laugh off bad luck and tricky situations. At the time? did not appreciate that. I was already in panic, unable to vocalize why i was so concerned.
After what felt like a melinum to a child (and a very bad photo of us stuck in the elevator) the doors start opening revealing the third floor at the top third of the door, and the second floor at the bottom half of the door. They explained that since we were in between floors they would have to go down and manually lower the elevator to the first floor, so that we could get our stuff out as well. They close the doors so we dont fall out while the lower it, and we wait for the elevator to start moving.
Its pretty jittery and very slow. I'm anticipating a drop, and every jolt sends shockwaves through my heart and gut. I gasp at some of the more sudden movements, but I had calmed down some. I was still upset in the only way a kid can be. frustrated, but confused as to why, just knowing with every fiber of my being that i did not like what was happening.
After a little while the floor of the elevator hits something solid, and we stop moving. I take a sigh of relif. The door opens a few moment later, and theres about 10 firefighers in all their gear smiling at us, and giving my brother and i high fives. i crack a smile, though the tears still stain my face. The front desk offers for us to take the stairs, and we decline. We check out, and my mom takes us back to the car. My dad works out a refund while i get situated in my carseat. I think of pulling out my workbook, but its far too dark out. I settle for watching raindrops drip down the window, and place bets for which raindrop is gonna win. I feel stress begin to melt out of my tiny body, and i relax back into my seat. I look over to my brother and he's messing with something in his hands, but i cant figure out what, its getting too dark for me to see. I think of the hotel bed that i could have been snuggled in right about now, if not for the lighting strike that took out a powerline.
My parents talk up front, figuring out a gameplan for where we're going to stay tonight. A constant loop of "Hi! do you have any rooms available? Do you have power? no?" *click* "Hi! do you have any rooms available? no?" *click* I remember my eyes getting heavy, the rain on the roof of the car calling me to sleep. Its a nice change from the inside of an elevator. I remember a talk about the cost of staying at the hershey hotel, and they agree to check the other hotels in the area before they try that one. I grab a plushie, anf squeeze it tight as my eyes droop closed. A deep breath pushes me back into my seat, and I dont remember anything past that.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY FAVORITE WALL CRAWLER
-warning this post will be a tad bit chaotic and long but hopefully lots of fun. I had fun doing this
Tumblr media
In honor of his special day, i decided to make him a birthday cake. 🎂
I’ve had this headcanon that every year on his birthday he loves a chocolate cake with blue icing
So I decided to bake just that
As someone with minimal baking skills
Let’s go
Nia vs baking 👩‍🍳
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First wash your hands
Then gather up all your ingredients. This is the cake mix I used. Once the eggs, water, oil and cake mix were all I needed for mine. Measure everything out and mix until well combined or for at least two minutes on medium. And drink a cup of water while you’re at it. Your body loves water. Not too much or risk water poisoning. Too much of anything can kill ya.
Then go ahead and grease whatever type of pan you’re using and place it in oven. I used mini pans so it can be a layered cake. It smelt so good while baking and then I nearly almost burned because read the instruction on the box. Make sure you read really carefully and use the time they give how big your pan is
I feel like Peter would like a homemade cake though for his birthday. I think it was just something he had while growing up and not coming from a lot. He appreciates it more than a store brought cake. Mainly because he knows someone close to him took time out of their day to make something special for him. Think he just grew up on it and is favorite tradition for his birthday. Plus he probably loves a good rich, moist chocolate. Just big sweet tooth vibes in general from him. He would love going to Hershey, PA and making his own chocolate bar or even just the M&M store to celebrate. His ideal birthday would probably just be something small and intimate. He cares a lot about out his loved ones and spending time with them.
While baking I cleaned up and jammed out to some Taylor Swift. Does anyone else think that Peter would have a hard time getting plastered btw? I think that purely because of his high metabolism. But if he ever does get there oh be prepared.
Anyways back to baking. Grab some white frosting. I had like half a thing left so I only used five drops of blue food coloring to get what I wanted. I say start off slowly and don’t add in a lot at once because can’t take it away.
Once cakes are done take them out and let them cool. If you greased them properly they should pop right out like how mine did. Number one baker over here.
Once cooled down try and level the cakes (thank you very much YouTube bakers for teaching me this)
I don’t have a cool tool like they do is just used a bread knife and hoped for the best
That hope caused me cutting off a but too much from some and not enough from others so was a little lopsided but it gives personality !!!
Then go ahead and frost. Slap that frosting all over the cake until it’s nice and coated
Another trick I learned was a crumb coat. Frost first, stick it in the fridge for a bit and then frost again. I don’t feel like it made that much of a difference but I am a frosting girly so I wasn’t mad
Next, grab your fav lil Spider-Man plush, give him a party hat and light candles in the cake
Lastly, cut yourself a slice and indulge on your favorite spidey movie
Happy baking ❤️💙🖤

I always wanted one of those BIG Reese's Cups. I know they had the big Hershey bars too, but the pbc can be cut up like a pie. I first saw one in a small gas station on PA's border over a decade ago. The circumference was larger than the spread of my fingers and it was heavy af! The Hershey bar was thick like a whole platter, and I could fit the Reese's Cup on top of it with room to spare. I was dying to have it and also too poor to justify a $20 purchase even for chocolate. T_T

Tröegs Independent Brewing announces the return of Master of Pumpkins.
Tumblr media
Press Release
HERSHEY, PA – Tröegs Independent Brewing announces the release of perennial favorite Master of Pumpkins. The once-a-year fall seasonal showcases Pennsylvania longneck pumpkins grown especially for the Hershey, PA, brewery at nearby Strites’ Orchard.
Longnecks are a hearty heirloom variety that are similar to butternut squash and can weigh up to 20 pounds each. Every year, Tröegs uses 3,000 pounds of these local longnecks to brew Master of Pumpkins.
“To us, a pumpkin beer should have pumpkin,” says brewmaster John Trogner. “We’re a Pennsylvania brewery, and pumpkins grow really well here, so using Pennsylvania pumpkins just makes sense. Our fans definitely appreciate the connection to local agriculture.”
The brewery’s kitchen staff preps and roasts the pumpkins in-house before passing them off to the brewing team, who purées the entire lot and adds it right into the mash tun. The result is a subtly spiced pumpkin ale with notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla and caramel.
Master of Pumpkins is available on draft and in 16oz. cans everywhere Tröegs beer is sold.
For a deeper dive into Master of Pumpkins, please visit the Tröegs blog.
Here at Tröegs, we started working with local ingredients back in 2002. And now, nearly 20 years later, we’re using more than we ever imagined possible.
Every year, we brew with more than 200,000 pounds of Pennsylvania grain. Our holiday favorite Mad Elf is sweetened with 25,000 pounds of local honey.
Tumblr media
And every fall, when pumpkin beer season arrives, we brew Master of Pumpkins with 3,000 pounds of Pennsylvania longnecks grown 10 miles from the brewery.
It takes a long time to plant, raise, pick, slice, clean and roast all those longnecks, but if you ask us, Master of Pumpkins is worth the wait.
Tumblr media
Early in the year, when the frost permits, our friends at Strites’ Orchard outside Hershey plant a whole field of Pennsylvania longneck pumpkins just for us. Longnecks are a hearty heirloom variety that taste similar to butternut squash and can weigh up to 20 pounds each.
Then, in late August or early September, we get a delivery of ripe pumpkins, and our kitchen team swings into action, de-stemming and roasting each one of these crooked beauties right in our Snack Bar kitchen.
Tumblr media
Finally, we purée every last gourd and the whole lot goes right in our mash tun!
Tumblr media
Our spice mix pulls through nutmeg and cinnamon notes with some subtle vanilla, all over a backbone of caramel malt. A Belgian yeast amplifies the dried spice notes.
Look for Master of Pumpkins in 16-oz. cans and on draft at the brewery and in Central PA starting Mon/Oct. 3 followed by everywhere our beer is sold over the next few weeks.

BerduGoals
What happens when a berdugo spoils a passenger princess?
Last weekend, dad asked me about a specific photo that he can't find. Syempre, since onti lang naman printed photos ng pamilya ko, I told him that mother dragon most likely rearranged the photos during her bored times at home. I was so bored to look for it, but, sige. Todo pilit tatay ko e. LELS. We found it naman, but, we also stumbled upon photos of the past I don't want to look at, mostly.
A curious unearthed photo was with me and my towering Tito Taurus. I think Grade 4 ako nun, so alam na, thicc girl talaga ako since birth. Syempre, lahat nagulat. 'Di na raw ako nabago since grade school. LUH. :(( Hahahaha.
Tito does not like photos, parang ako, so nagulat ako. I think mom took this photo and sapilitan pa. Tito wore a basic white shirt, undershirt and chinos with his ever reliable belt. He had his arm extended kasi parang sa church ata ito na event na 'di ko na matandaan. Gah. That photo. The good times na wala pang complications ang aming mala-mag-amang dynamics.
So, here we are. It's weird to realize that perhaps the reason why I don't get intimidated by any XY on earth is because my tito is the benchmark. Also, I don't get impressed a lot because this berdugo spoiled me a lot without me knowing. Very practical tito ko. LOL. I remember his super silent pero sapul spoiled me paganaps.
'Yung favorite kong chocolates since ayoko nga ng Snickers, Mars and the super umay sweet ones, lagi't lagi akong may isang bar. So I grew up getting Whatchamacallit, Reese's, Butterfinger, white Toblerone and Hershey's Cookies and Creme. LOL. Wala pang matcha noon, so, 'yan talaga ang go-to ko.
'Pag may pasalubong siyang items like Swatch or rubber shoes, ako una niya pinapapapili. Hahahaha. Shemay. Kahihiyan. Ano ba? Syempre, nahihiya ako, pero wala e. 'Pag sinabi niya pili, kailangang pumili kasi nao-offend siya 'pag 'di ako pumili agad. I remember there's this blue and mint green Swatch na favorite ko and if makita ko siya sa Swatch ngayon, malamang bibilhin ko 'yun. Sana maalala ko 'yung mismong design.
Tito likes how I dress up kasi nga quirky ako since birth. LOL. He has this smirk 'pag aalis kami. 'Di ko ako maganda pero Tito made me feel like a princess so wala talaga akong pake sa iba kasi they don't matter. :p For the record, mother dragon-approved lahat ng damit nung bata ako kasi mala-Sunday brunch-church vibes mostly itong era ko na 'to. How quirky am I noon? That paired with a red nautical top na malaki 'yung collar tapos need mo i-tie sa front part. Hassle i-explain. Basta 'yun. Tapos may wide headband ako. LOL.
Tito also spoiled me one time ng malala. Tinanong lang niya ako if may cellphone ako. One day, he handed ma a paper bag and poof. Binalik ko sa kanya 'yung paper bag with the phone. Sabi niya, para raw may katext siya. Hahahahaha. Ugh. Looking back, may dynamics talaga pala si Tito sa growing up years ko. Silent lang. Sapul and sagad lang.
'Di materialistic tito ko except sa black cars na heavily tinted ang windows. As in. Tawang-tawa siya 'pag pinapakita niya wallet niya kasi ayaw niya palitan, at all.
LOL. Pero malay natin, mabago pa 'di ba? Pero, seryoso. Sa mga roadtrips namin as a workaholic siya. 'Pag may unlicalls siya for work, kikindat pa 'yan. Gago siya like that. He found immense joy in irking people a lot. Damay sa pagiging workaholic niya ng malala. Lels. So many times niya sinabi na, Ayus ba, neng? :p Damnnn. Syempre, kahit gusto ko sumama, 'pag ganito, bawal ako.
Speaking of how low-key my tito is when he's off his calls and his brimming work-work-work calendar, 'yung pinaka gusto kong bonding namin is over tutong na kanin, papaitan, tuyo and/or pangat na isda sa tabing-daan or sa bahay. Taas paa pa kami niyan and nakakamay kumain. LOL. Syempre, akin belly most of the time. LOL.
Most importantly, tito never let me go during the time when I had to take mom to PGH because her previous hospital is not giving at all. Sobrang test of shitshumzzz ito kasi sobrang tough niya sa akin dito. Since stockholders sila sa hospital, he just needed to lift a finger to get things done, pero no. Side note: Late niya ni-reveal na stockholders sila so gulat ako e. 'Di ba? Consistent siyang manggulat. May part akong gusto ko siyang bigwasan at sampalin kasi puwede naman palang mag-step in siya, pero no. Inisip ko rin, baka he sided with the hospital because syempre, image nung ni-investan niya ang nakakasangkalan just in case may mangyaring 'di maganda sa mom ko. LUH. Hahahaha. Overthinker since birth po tayo, opo.
Hahahaha. Wala e. And then, he lifted a finger and things went my way. LOL. Shemay. CHOZ.
Tito told me that it's not gonna be easy sa PGH pero natawid ko. Natawid namin. Nalipat naman si mom and naalagaan decently. Tito is always under the radar. Kinakamusta ako at ang mga kaganapan. Magsabi lang daw ako kasi busy man siya, he'd make time and things happen. LOL.
Siguro, kaya ko naalala tito ko is because I'm at the point where hinahanap ko 'yung dati kong grit, gana and grace. 'Yung from within. 'Yung legit. 'Yung todo. Syempre, life and death naman kasi 'yun kaya I needed to friggin' wing it. May this be a reminder that even when nasagad ako noon ng malala, I may still have it. And I may still want it. I may still need that kind of fight mode. 'Di 'yung gigil, pero 'yung kahit impossible, nagagawaan ng paraan kahit ano, kahit sino, kahit saan. Siguro, ito na 'yung time na mas maging intentional ako para sa sarili ko since 'di pa rin ako sanay na inuuna ko 'yung ako saka mga para sa akin. LUH. Hassle sabihin pero ganun talaga e. 'Di siya madali, pero as a Caterpie princess Fiona, sana mapadpad ako sa ganitong side ko ulit. Actually, may mga glimmers naman. 'Di lang ako sanay sa rewiring, pero andito na tayo e... forda life outside Manila 'pag may time.

i just added this in the tags on a post but i desperately need to go off ab this. the other day at the hospital, they brought in joeys for nurses week. yes like actual baby kangaroos. specific reason/connection to nurses? none. not too long ago was doctors day. DAY. they were given chocolate bars. this is hershey PA, and hershey chocolate company does a lot for the funding of the local hospital (i have other issues with that fact i will not be addressing here). not only are we fucking broke right now (despite doing better than most!!!! i will admit we are incredibly privileged, but struggling to pay bills consistently) but the hospital/people in charge cut so many corners to have the doctors work as much as legally possible (labor laws for healthcare are complicated and different!) for the least amount of pay, but they do NOT treat doctors like they are a necessity in the hospital. it’s absolutely sickening.

How to Celebrate Chocolate Day
Consider implementing some of the following ideas for celebrating Chocolate Day in a deliciously fitting manner:
Give Chocolate as a Gift
Chocolate Day is a beautiful time to enjoy and celebrate the love that comes along with this week in February. And one way to show someone how much they are loved is to gift them with an amazing assortment of chocolate candies. Choose a collection of truffles, caramels or bon bons that a lover or friend would most certainly appreciate.
Those who are celebrating Chocolate Day by giving chocolate to friends or coworkers might want to consider gifting them with one of these popular brands of chocolate:
Godiva Chocolate. Named after the legendary 11th century noblewoman, Lady Godiva, who rode naked through town to convince her husband to lighten up the taxes, this chocolate company hails from Brussels, Belgium.
Harry & David Chocolate Basket. Known for their gift baskets, Harry & David has been offering fruit, popcorn and, of course, chocolate for many years. They even offer chocolate dipped strawberries.
Toblerone Chocolate Bars. Sure, just giving a lover a long, yellow, triangle shaped chocolate bar might not feel that special. But when it is special ordered and personalized with their name on the label? Incredible!
Dylan’s Candy Bar. Accessible from Nordstrom’s, Dylan’s offers their chocolate lover’s tackle box, a stack of signature chocolate swatches, and so many other delectable chocolate options.
Take a Chocolate Factory Tour
Those who live in or near a town that has a chocolate factory may just find that Chocolate Day is the perfect time to take a little tour. Learn how chocolate is made, see the processes and – hopefully! – get some sample tastes of the finished product.
Of course, there’s Hershey’s Chocolate World in Hershey, PA; the Ghirardelli Chocolate Experience on the pier in San Francisco; Big Island Candies in Hilo, Hawaii; or Anthony Thomas Chocolates in Columbus, Ohio. Whether sampling milk chocolate, dark chocolate, truffles or fudge, it’s fun to watch the candy making process from start to finish!
Try Making Chocolates at Home
Some people might think that making chocolates at home for Chocolate Day would be a massive project! But actually, it’s possible to offer homemade chocolates for friends, family and other loved ones in honor of the day – without going to a huge amount of trouble or spending a lot of time. Some of them even have as few as four ingredients! Check out some of these types of chocolate sweets that can be made at home in a fairly simple manner:
Four ingredient chocolates. The key ingredients (which may need to be purchased at a specialty baking store) are cacao butter, cacao liquid or paste, maple syrup and vanilla powder. Simply use a double boiler to melt and mix the ingredients. Add a pinch of salt as desired. Pour into chocolate molds, place in the freezer, then pop out and enjoy!
Peanut butter cups. Also only needing four ingredients, these little homemade chocolate peanut butter cups take Reese’s to the next level. Mix peanut butter with powdered sugar and salt. Fill mini-muffin cups halfway with melted chocolate, add a layer of peanut butter mixture and pour more chocolate on top. Yum!
Chocolate peanut clusters. Super easy, these just use melted chocolate mixed with peanuts and placed on baking sheets in circles to harden.
Cook with Chocolate
Of course, chocolate is mostly associated with baking, sweets and candies. But getting creative on Chocolate Day might mean including some chocolate in each and every meal that is cooked for the day! Consider making some unique savory meals that are cooked using trace amounts of dark chocolate that change the experience completely.
For instance, try a Chocolate Chipotle Sirloin Steak recipe that has been made with a rub of cocoa powder, chipotle peppers, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce. Chicken Mole (pronounced mo-LAY) is another traditional Mexican favorite that uses bittersweet chocolate in the tomato based sauce. Some people also love to put chocolate and cinnamon in their chili and serve Cincinnati-style, with pasta, red beans, chopped onion and cheese.
Choose a Chocolate Beverage or Cocktail
Going out for drinks after work in honor of Chocolate Day? Choose a spot that has some chocolate cocktails on offer! Of course, just a mug of toasty hot chocolate with whipped cream might taste just right, but ask for a shot of cinnamon or peppermint liqueur and make it super special. Other options might include a chocolate martini, chocolate mint julep, or chocolate old-fashioned to bring a unique flavor to Chocolate Day!

🍫🍫🍫
World Chocolate Day descended upon Twisted Wonderland, and Night Raven College took full advantage of it.
“Greetings, my dear students!” Crowley announced over the PA system. “Remember, don’t be shy if you plan to give me chocolates today! How kind of me to say so, no?”
Students shared chocolates with each other in almost every corner of campus. Such chocolate came from the half-price deals at Mister S’s Mystery Shop for the holiday.
The Mostro Lounge itself served a variety of chocolate treats, from gelato to lava cakes sprinkled with sea salt. One of the special complimentary snacks included chocolate “mushrooms”: dark chocolate caps and biscuit stems created by mushroom-lover Jade Leech.
After eating lunch with Ace, Deuce and Grim, you grabbed a chocolate kiss from one of the dining hall’s baskets on your way out.

Like most holidays and celebrations on campus, Leona preferred to stay away from all the hullabaloo.
World Chocolate Day was no exception. As an Afterglow Savannah royal, only the best Floral Cocoa chocolate (chocolate with a subtle floral flavor) pleased the particular prince.
This year with the Floral Cocoa ready for harvest, Leona’s brother and sister-in-law sent him a pound of Floral Cocoa dark chocolate bars for World Chocolate Day.
Not able to eat it all on his own, Leona handed most of it to his Savanaclaw dorm mates. However, Leona saved some bars for himself and a certain herbivore of his.
After checking (more like getting dragged by Ruggie and Jack) to make sure that some Savanaclaw students didn’t turn the dorm lounge pool into a pool of chocolate fondue in honor of the day, Leona settled into bed for an afternoon nap.
Leona’s door creaked open yet he didn’t open an eye. He silently welcomed you by flicking his tail in the air.
“Happy World Chocolate Day, Leona,” you greeted him softly as you sat next to his sleeping form. “I have something for you.”
You revealed a chocolate kiss wrapped in aluminum foil from your pocket. The sugary aroma of milk chocolate wafted up Leona’s nose.
He switched sides to face you, sitting up to wrap his arms around your waist while resting his head in the crook of your neck. The weight of Leona’s body forced you to lean back against his mahogany headboard.
“It’s a chocolate kiss,” you said as you scratched the back of his ears. “We can share it.”
Leona pulled away from hugging you and peered at you with heavy-lidded emerald orbs. To your surprise, Leona pressed his lips onto yours.
He deepened the kiss and bit your lip gently as if you were the most rare and delicious piece of Floral Cocoa dark chocolate he ever tasted.
Before you could sigh contentedly into the kiss, Leona pulled away with a smug smirk.
“Leona!” you exclaimed in disappointment. Your pout amused the calculating lion.
“Ya said you wanted to share a kiss,” Leona replied nonchalantly as he licked his lips. “Mine’s just better than that measly chocolate ya got there.”
“Leona, are you seriously competing with chocolate?” you jokingly arched an eyebrow at him.
“What competition?” Leona countered. He snatched the chocolate kiss from your hand, unwrapped it, and popped it into his mouth.
Leona grimaced at the saccharine chocolate that flooded his mouth.
“Want another kiss?” you grinned oh-so-innocently.
The lion beastman batted his tail at you lightly in response as if he wasn’t the one initiating the kiss earlier. He then rolled over to grab a cardboard box on his bedside table.
Leona rummaged through the box, which contained crayon drawings from Cheka, a letter from his brother and sister-in-law, and several Floral Cocoa dark chocolate bars.
He revealed a bar of fine chocolate wrapped in burnt-orange and gold foil. With delicate movements of his gloved fingers, Leona unwrapped the chocolate and tore off a square for you.
“Here, try it,” Leona handed you the chocolate square, chilled and preserved by the magical foil.
“What is it?” you inquired, gazing at the chocolate square with excitement.
“Floral Cocoa dark chocolate from home,” Leona answered as he tore off a square for himself.
You bit into the firm piece of chocolate. The bitter Floral Cocoa greeted you, balanced by notes of tart and sweet rosehip. A smile formed on your face as all the flavors danced together in your mouth.
“Good?” Leona asked. You didn’t notice that he waited for your reaction before eating his piece.
“Mhm,” you nodded, giving him a double thumbs up. “Super good!”
Leona chuckled at your cute answer before plopping his head onto your lap and devouring his own chocolate square in one bite.
As you munched on another chocolate square, Leona told you about Afterglow Savannah’s Floral Cocoa.
Since Floral Cocoa grew once every ten years, it did not serve as one of Afterglow Savannah's main exports. Instead, the people of Afterglow Savannah celebrated the cocoa’s decennial growth with a holiday.
Of course, the holiday commenced with Afterglow Savannah women in each household eating the first piece of Floral Cocoa chocolate before the rest of their family members. After, families ate chocolate-related foods and played games with each other.
At the age of ten, Leona experienced his first Floral Cocoa harvest. While he and the rest of his family enjoyed the Floral Cocoa chocolate together in private, Leona did not have the opportunity to play any of the holiday games.
“We had a boring-as-hell party with a buncha stuffy dignitaries and diplomats,” Leona grumbled.
He tore into another dark chocolate square, remembering just standing there while his father and brother gifted the chocolates to esteemed attendees to further political relations.
“That does sound tiring,” you agreed, imagining a little Leona not even bothering to hide his boredom.
“I got so bored that I snuck to the kitchen to get more chocolate,” Leona huffed.
You noticed the teeniest of fond smiles crack onto Leona’s face as he recalled sneaking a piece of Floral Cocoa dark chocolate from the kitchen after slipping away from the “party.” It wasn’t his fault that his attendants and guards weren’t paying attention.
“You must’ve been very cute back then,” you chuckled. “So besides the holiday, does the Floral Cocoa symbolize anything?”
“Abundance and love,” Leona answered, to which you hummed in appreciation. “Cuz it only grows once every ten years, and then we get to eat it with people we love.”
A grin formed on Leona’s face despite himself. Pride bursted like warm and gooey chocolate in his chest from sharing more pieces of his culture and childhood memories with you.
“Well, can the person I love finish this?” you held the last piece of the bar over Leona’s mouth. You didn’t notice till now that the two of you practically finished the bar of Floral Cocoa dark chocolate together.
“Alright,” Leona agreed. He took the piece of chocolate from your fingers before an idea struck him.
Leona sat up to face you and bit into one end of the chocolate square while having the rest outside of his mouth.
You stared at him with a confused expression, to which Leona jutted his chin at you.
“So you want another kiss?” you teased your beloved. Leona rolled his eyes as if to say, “Duh.”
You leaned in, peppering Leona with kisses on his nose, cheeks, and the corners of his mouth.
“Oi,” Leona grumbled, crossing his arms.
“Ok, ok,” you giggled, cupping his cheek. You then leaned in to bite the other half of the chocolate square from his lips.
Leona lunged forward and crashed his lips against yours, the sweet kiss mixing with the bitter and tart chocolate.
“Mm,” you sighed. You threw your arms over his shoulders as his arms snaked around your waist.
The two of you collapsed onto his bed tangled in an embrace. Leona broke the kiss and towered over you with the softest smile on his face.
“Super good,” Leona mumbled, melting into your arms once more.
“What, the chocolate or the kiss?” you asked as you stroked his mane.
“Are ya seriously competing with chocolate right now?” Leona smirked, copying you from earlier.
“What competition?” you didn’t miss a beat.
Even with chocolate-stained lips, the two of you continued to savor each others’ kisses for the rest of the afternoon.
