nana nana nana. name literally means big banana. is the tallest in her class. has abandonment issues so wild she repeated the same play for 60+ years with people she had known FOR A YEAR. had feelings for the same girl in every one of these loops. is the mom friend. is the closest thing an anime about theatre kids has to an antagonist. is given absolutely no backstory. ties her hair into half twintails that look like bananas. has terrible sleeping posture. dual wields two bigass swords and lost a fight to some depressed teenager with a knife. later lost another fight to depressed teenager's childhood bestfriend (who is her friend too) because she was having a breakdown in the middle of it. got casted as the phantom AND the beast. makes banana desserts. won a 1v6 fight on top of a moving train effortlessly. told her crush to kill herself. is also the only one in their friend circle who got kissed by said crush. has something deeply deeply wrong with her. likes frogs.

...so in terms of I need a kick up the pants to actually get this fic finished, let me share some of the draft sections I'm CUTTING from a fic I'm working on.

First Patrols

“How about you Cass? What did you get after your first patrol as Batgirl?”

Cass looked down at her hands and cupped them in her lap. “An apple.”

What sort of answer was that?

Dick laid an arm across Cass’s shoulder and she leaned into his side.

“I remember carrying it back to the Clock Tower for you,” said Tim, a distant look in his eyes.

“I bet it tasted like the best thing you’d ever eaten,” Dick said quietly, hugging Cass. 

She nodded. “Yes. Sometimes…I still taste it.”

Jason looked around at the rest of the group. Duke and Damian looked as confused as he felt, but Steph’s eyes were huge and she slowly shook her head and raised a finger to her lips. 

Jason narrowed his eyes at her, but she just mouthed LATER.

But seriously. An apple made Cass, Dick and Tim this emotional? What sort of magical apple was this?

The three seemed lost in their own little world for another moment, then Cass sat up straighter with a small grin. “My first solo Joker patrol…I got told off. By Barbara AND Batman.”

“No costumes!” said Tim, grinning back at her.

“No costumes!” Cass confirmed with a nod.

“She wasn’t supposed to patrol when costumed villains were around,” Dick said cheerfully, looking over Cass’s head at the rest of the group. 

“Well if you’re all going to tell first Joker patrol stories in front of me, how about you, squirt,” said Jason, looking over at Damian.

Damian suddenly looked panicked. “I would rather not,” he said abruptly, as Dick also rapidly straightened up.

“Let’s not.”

Steph broke in. “How about our first patrol together, Damian?”

“It was my case and you broke into it,” said Damian somewhat huffily.

“I took him on a jumping castle afterwards,” Steph said with a grin. “He deserved some fun.”

THE CAMERA AND THE GUN

(tw: discussion/explicit mention of Ash Lynx's past)

I think that as a fandom, we don't appreciate the importance of Eiji being a photographer (or going to the US as one) enough.

Given Ash's past, cameras are something he's very vulnerable under. He's constantly been exploited for his body and image, and the child corn videos of him were still up for distribution until Max burned all of it. Even the sound of cameras can be a triggering memory, such as when he's confronting Kippard and he's transported back into a childhood memory with the incessant "click click click" of the camera.

Eiji, showing up to that bar, pulling up a camera with his job literally being to take pictures of him, embodied everything Ash should distrust. However Eiji asks is he can take the photos, and Ash replies "not the face", this obviously makes sense given he's a criminal, but with what we learn later it's obviously more than that.

Ash was carrying a gun, Eiji a camera, to both of them what the other person was carrying was the greater weapon. However, famously, Eiji asks for Ash's gun, takes it and gives it back and says "thank you for trusting me with it", which I think is really key. Ash has just seen that if he can trust Eiji with a gun, perhaps he can trust him with a camera.

Which he does. We never really see Eiji take pictures of Ash during the course of the show, but we know he did thanks to garden of light, where we actually see some of them. The fact that Eiji has a camera, giving him the power to make Ash feel vulnerable and observed, but doesn't at any moment, must've given Ash so much hope. In the same way he tells Eiji that it's the first time anyone has done something for him without "asking for something in return" this is probably the first time someone has had the power to hurt him and not used it.

The fact Ash can trust Eiji so fully with a camera, and feel comfortable and unguarded around him just speaks so so much to the nature of their relationship and just how deep and true it was. With Eiji, Ash really can just be himself "a boy of 17 years old" he's not afraid in the slightest, even if every single thing from his past should tell him to run. The trust Ash has in Eiji is just as great and moving as the trust Eiji has in Ash. Eiji tells Ash he was never scared of him, not for a moment, which is something that Ash finds great comfort in, but it's also true the other way around.

Eiji the one who trusted a boy with a gun and Ash , the one who trusted a boy with a camera. Gosh I love them.

Idk if it's been discussed before, but some of the banana fish fandom infantilizes Ash, and it's a bit weird to me as someone who's faced assault and harassment sexually before.

Ash is 17-18 in the series, yes. And trauma CAN make a person act immature or younger than they are, and make them incredibly vulnerable.

But Ash is not stupid. Ash is not a baby. He's not harmless and clueless. He's an incredibly traumatized teenage boy who's more than what's happened to him.

Someone in the reposts really hit it spot on. There's a difference between letting him experience things and emotions he missed out on as a kid and straight up infantilizing him.

I refuse to let some squishy banana ruin my day.

Hey there, Wallaby.

It's me, Yuki. I'm 8 months old, and I've got something to say. You see, every day is like a big adventure for me and I'm always excited to see what each new day will bring.

When the first rays of the sun peek through my nursery window, I can't help but feel a rush of adrenaline. It's like I'm on the cusp of discovering a new continent, or in my case, a new toy under the sofa.

My family contribute to this daily anticipation. My older brother, Tommy, leaves his Lego blocks around, and each day I find a new piece to gnaw on. It's like a treasure hunt, but with a risk of choking. And let's not forget my dog, Fido, who has the uncanny ability to hide my pacifiers. It's a thrilling game of hide-and-seek every day!

But there's this one thing that tries to mess it all up: mashed bananas. Yeah, those squishy, mushy things my mom thinks I should eat. She says they're good for me, but yuck! They're not my cup of milk, if you know what I mean.

Now, I could let this banana business turn my day sour, but nope, not me. I've decided I'm not gonna let some squishy banana spoil my fun. There's too much cool stuff to do, like giggling when I play peek-a-boo or feeling super happy when I shake my rattle.

Some babies might cry over mashed bananas, but I'm Yuki, and I'm not about that. I just make a funny face and move on. Because after the bananas, there's always something good, like a warm hug or a sweet lullaby.

So, Wallaby, I just wanted to tell you and everyone else that we babies are tougher than we look. We might be small, but we've got big hearts and even bigger smiles. And a little banana isn't going to change that.

So, here's to the new day. May it be filled with unexpected joys, minor mishaps, and hopefully, no mashed bananas.
