If I had a nickel for everytime I watched a kids show where a brunette and a blonde grew up together as best friends, hurt each other for the majority of screen time, and then got together at the end, I’d have two nickels, and I’m very very happy it happened twice

ND Stevenson when presented with an angsty gay blonde-brunette best friend duo who are both brainwashed and manipulated in a military upbringing until one of them starts to question things and realizes their life is a lie but the other believes their best friend betrayed them which results in them becoming mortal enemies who try to kill each other before finally saving the world with the power of love and getting together...

Has it ever struck you how stupid the knights are?

Todd doesn't know what a rhinoceros is and how to say it, doesn't know how to count and is very happy to have a big sword (canonically to compensate), two knights prefer to discuss otters in the middle of a fight while their opponents are dangerous and beating them up (in fact, one of them has an arm in a cast because of an otter. How? I don't know ), Todd thinks that Ballister escaped the subway thanks to a small whale, makes a butt joke about a scene that he himself describes as a tragedy, thinks he has a chance against a huge creature - which takes missiles almost without flinching - only to finally run away screaming like a little girl and run into another knight himself and end up in the background, etc...

Most of these feats are the work of Todd, who is particularly stupid. But is his idiocy really that exceptional? Aside from Ambrosius, no one points his stupidity which he demonstrates in public and even in front of their superior. Who doesn't give a damn about it even when it happens multiple times.

They are also extremely classist, shallow, cruel and limited. Todd publicly harasses the best knight in their class under the pretext of he's a commoner, and not only does no one defend him (except Ambrosius) but everyone laughs and encourages him. Knights have taken Ballister's arm by force, which is a big NO, you don't steal other people's limbs. They have repeatedly beaten up Ballister who was not in a position to defend himself (they did not even arrest him since he was able to leave each time to save Nimona). They have extreme contempt for the commoners they are supposed to protect, whom they do not protect at all during Nimona's "attack" (only Ambrosius does that)

So the question is: how can they have gigantic statues in their honor? What did they do to deserve this? What could have motivated using probably public money to create these statues instead of putting it elsewhere?

There were never any monsters to fight so they didn't protect the Kingdom (not in a "grandiose" way like for the attack on Nimona, where they did nothing except destroy everything), some places are completely abandoned and people eat rats. The social classes have extremely obvious differences in treatment and the knights clearly do nothing since they prefer to harass Ballister.

The Knights as a whole, since the begining, is a gigantic, useless scam

One thing I want to point out about nimona is that it captures tenderness in such a visceral way that I haven’t really seen in 3D animation before? Like the way the characters curl into each other and melt makes me go INSANE

also the way that the nimona movie showed that hate is a taught behavior?? the way that gloreth, the hero worshipped for slaying monsters, was fully accepting of nimona until her mother told her what to believe? until that generational bigotry was passed down? the way the director’s motive wasn’t even power like most evil government figureheads in media, but rather a fear of monsters destroying the kingdom because that hate had been instilled in her too, like it had in gloreth? the way ballister was also indoctrinated into hatred of “monsters” until he was just as outcast as one? because only then was he willing to change and learn?? and how even people with good hearts and good intentions like ballister and ambriosius and even the queen herself are still capable of perpetuating bigotry and unnecessary violence when they don’t take the time to understand or learn about the “others” they supposedly hate????????? i need to lie down
