Nightmare overestimating Dream instead of underestimating him

Because during all of his childhood everyone always told him that Dream was perfect in every way, that he excelled in everything he ever did, and Nightmare ended up believing it and hey, isn't fighting part of the "everything" ?

So Nightmare is convinced that Dream would be so perfectly good and talented at fighting that he keeps overestimating him, making so much backup plans, trying to think about every possibility, every outcome to try and surpass Dream

He took in henchmen because he figured that he wouldn't beat Dream if he was alone, and the reason he makes them train so so much isn't because he doesn't care about their well-being and doesn't want them to rest, but because he wants them to be stronger, to be better, so that they wouldn't get hurt by Dream, and so he makes them train because he wants them to win and not get killed

But the truth is Dream isn't instantly perfect at everything, no one is, and he has to train to fight better because his brother's henchmen are freakishly strong and seem to get stronger everyday

And it's just an infinite spiral of who will train the most to be better when really they didn't have to put so much effort

But Nightmare is just convinced that Dream would be perfect because he always was perfect at everything (he wasn't, the villagers just wanted to degrade Nightmare a little more)

Don’t imagine sitting right beside him as he addresses his men, who are all sitting on either side of a long table, while Nightmare sits at the end.

You do your best to pay attention, but his hand on your thigh prevents you from listening to his words. It’s also growing harder to keep your face from becoming hot. 

Don’t imagine him squeezing your skin when you attempt to move his hand, his claws slightly digging into your flesh.

A warning to not do that again.

Don’t imagine Nightmare’s hand creeping upward in a teasing manner before slightly going back down. With every movement you make to try to get comfortable, his hand edges upward, causing you to sit still as much as possible.

You listen to the rest of his speech before Nightmare dismisses his men. Don’t imagine the knowing smirk on Killer’s face as he winks at you before everyone leaves.

There’s silence and tension in the room before you feel tentacles wrap around you and drag you toward Nightmare. 

Don’t imagine him setting you on his lap, chest to chest, as he wraps his one arm around your waist and his other hand cradling the back of your neck to prevent you from moving.

A low growl escapes him as he speaks to you in his low velvety voice of his, the kind that makes you shiver from hearing it.

“Don’t expect to sleep early tonight, Pet.”

Before you can utter a word, Nightmare leans forward and presses his teeth to your lips, silencing any protest that you might have had.

Don’t imagine the sounds that come out of that room that would make any monster envious of the two behind that door.

Trying to make sure twitter and tumblr are on similar pages! Have Resto!Noot (Restored!Night). He’s a bit of a lost soul, half his corruption/power stripped from him by Dream in an attempt to rebalance the multiverse (which is where my variant of Dream with the tendrils and the skull crack comes from). He still has his gang around, who he continues to protect.

A little joke a friend came up with and I had to draw it.

Something I think would be funny: Nightmare desperately trying to create negativity in the multiverse but everything he does end up creating positivity instead no matter how hard he tries

He destroys the statue of a great figure in the underground ? Turns out that person had a controversy and monsters were looking to take the statue down anyway but didn't have enough money yet

He creates a flood in Hotland with Waterfall's water ? The water end up in a dry field that was dying and can now bloom again thanks to the new lake created by the flood

For once he kills someone ? That person was a dangerous criminal that was heavily wanted but nobody could catch him and would have been sentenced to death anyway

He brings in three henchmen so they can be miserable due to their incompatible personalities ? They become besties and overcome their trauma together

He brings in a fourth one so he would be left out by the first three ? They took him under their wing and for the first time in years he doesn't feel so lonely anymore

Nightmare just tries so hard but it doesn't work and he is pissed

And then one day he gifts someone a pastries and they happen to have an allergy and die

And he doesn't know what to think about it
