Welcome to the third installment @stick-weaponry Where you can submit and we rate/review sticks and talk about sticks.
Why?…Yes!
Now for todays stick, we got the heaviest one yet!
This one is bent at a nice angle and have a nice smoothness on one end. When using this, it reminded me of a Scythe in action. However it can be a unique sword or lightsaber.
Only downside is the angle feel a bit far off, and the smoother end seemed a bit too long. But still good to use.
9/10 This one is a keeper!
Feel free to submit pics of sticks you find to rate and review!

spooky tuesday is a (now not so new!) podcast where we’re breaking down all of our favorite slashers, thrillers, monster movies and black comedies on the new scariest day of the week.
it's the third film in a hot horror franchise AND it makes the hop to hollywood, so the comparisons between maXXXine (2024) and scream 3 were inevitable — but are they a compliment or a criticism? in our latest episode of spooky tuesday, we're covering the newest (but perhaps not final) movie in ti west's spooky saga starring mia goth. a direct sequel to 2022's x but coming on the heels of prequel pearl, this flick has a tough job striking the right tone and trying to stand alone, but one thing we can say for it is that the accent work definitely makes it stand out.

31 Days of Horror
Day 6: Tremors (1990)
Tumblr media
An underrated 90’s flick starring Mr. Footloose, Kevin Bacon.
It's a combination between a monster drama and comedy, and it does a rather nice job. Plus, the premise and the monster is interesting. This is basically "the floor is lava" but in this case, it's man-eating, sub-terranean monsters instead. The movie revolves around a place called Perfection, which you would hardly call a town since there's only several people living there. Two of those citizens are Val and Earl, a handyman duo that share one brain-cell, but they do very well considering they're the leading survivors as folks die inexplicably one by one. With the help of a visiting seismologist student, they and the colorful remaining population of Perfection try to survive with the heavy artillery of a Doomsday couple and good ol' quick thinking and creativity.
Even if you're not that scared, it's still very fun to watch.

My quest to watch 80 x 80s movies continues with the Kevin Bacon classic, Tremors 🪱
Tremors, a classic 50s style monster movie that smashes the genre. It's a B-Movie that is way too good to be a B-Movie! A fun, well written and acted story that has some fantastic characters and settings. The movie also has some incredible practical effects to boot adding to the brilliant story telling and watching experience.
I can't say enough good stuff about this movie. I'm a huge fan of monster movies and stories, and this may make you pause for a second while you digest, but Tremors is right up there with Alien, Predator and the Thing as a great monster movie.

MAXXXINE (2024)
💁‍♀️Strong Female Lead
Tumblr media
A stylistic departure from the first two films in the series but a good movie to be sure. More along the lines of a drama thriller, “MAXXXINE” strays far from its slasher roots (not that there isn’t gore and death in this film as well). A solid wrap up to the series (though you really only needed to watch “X” prior to this movie to really get Maxine’s PTSD), and one of Mia Goth's stronger performances (and not just because she was a strong female lead).
TW Strobing Lights
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
Tumblr media
We meet up with Maxine, now blonde, and she’s going to be making her silver screen debut! Just as soon as she figures out who is murdering all her friends… And who knows about everything that went down in the events of “X” (or so they think they do). Special guest appearances by Halsey as a private dancer (/corpse), Kevin Bacon as a seedy PI, Giancarlo Esposito as an equally seedy but incredibly endearing entertainment lawyer, and Bobby Cannavale as a failed actor (ha) turned detective (/corpse).
Tumblr media
Right away there is a big shift in Maxine's demeanor compared to the first time we meet her. There may be a flicker of fear in her, but it burns out quickly under most situations. Maxine takes full control by either telling the casting directors they should cast her because she is a star, having a gun on hand when she almost got assaulted/murdered in the alley and turning the tables on him, lacing her keys in her fingers and punching out the PI following her…
Tumblr media
Her humanity, failing as it may be, stretched thin by the life she has endured, seems intact. She is having PTSD from her adventures in “X” which are almost exclusively the cause of her fears (that and her past being discovered, possibly ruining her blossoming career). Enlisting the help of her trusty lawyer, Maxine gets Kevin Bacon to take a car ride he’ll never forget (honestly, he was just disappointed by the evening, crushed really). Maxine leaves that pesky murderer to herself though and heads up to just below the Hollywood sign, with the semi-hapless cops in tow.
Tumblr media
After arriving at the death mansion, we are surprised to find none other than Maxine's Daddy Dearest, our good preacher man, has been the horrific murderer of every person in Maxi’s life. He says he wants to make her a star so he and his cult attempt an exorcism/ritual murder (depending on how fickle papa was feeling that evening) but the coppers come in just in time! Bullets abound but Big Papa sneaks off, the detectives tell Maxine to stay put but she is done being a victim.
Tumblr media
Following the sound of gunshots and trail of blood, Maxine finds her pathetic pops lying on the ground and blows his bastard head off. Flash forward one month and she is living the good life, having fended off a murderer and being able to finish working on her movie. She says she doesn’t want the fame to end which could imply that she isn’t done killing (you know, the trauma begets trauma theory from the other movies in the series) BUT I think, due this being the last film in the trilogy, that this means Maxine just wants to keep acting now that she's made it onto the silver screen. She shouldn’t have to do anything to defend herself in the future (but she knows she is capable). They left it up for interpretation but I like to believe that Maxine was stronger than Pearl and is a survivor in more ways than one.

After Ti West’s X and PEARL instantly solidified themselves as two of my favorite horror films from the past twenty years or so, MAXXXINE, as you can imagine, was one of my most anticipated films of the year. Was this going to be a perfect trilogy? Expectations were through the roof. The end product, while gorgeous, left a bit to be desired.
MAXXXINE picks up six years after the events of X, in 1985, with Maxine Minx (Mia Goth, excellent again) working her popular butt off to move forward from her past trauma and make damn sure everyone will know her name. She’s quite successful in the adult entertainment industry, but now she’s got her sights set on Hollywood. What follows is Ti West’s take on the giallo.
The vibes are exquisite. The eighties aesthetic alone is worth the price of admission! The story, however, centering on Maxine taking in a role in a new horror film with an intense (female!) director (Elizabeth Debicki) while the Night Stalker is terrorizing the streets is paper thin, as most giallos tend to be. The audience knows who the killer is practically from the opening scene, so the reveal in the third act lands with the weight of a wet pasta noodle. You wonder why the requisite cop duo (Bobby Cannavale and Michelle Monaghan) are so bad at their job.
The horror elements all work to great effect, West is in his wheelhouse here. The kills are fantastic, with a body count appropriate to a third film in a horror franchise. Mia Goth turns in another powerhouse performance, her work in this trilogy is some of my favorite acting of all time. It’s also got a fun supporting cast, Kevin Bacon in particular is clearly having a blast with the material. Unfortunately none of the characters are really given anything to do, so it largely feels like a waste of talent.
By the time the credits rolled, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed. I still greatly enjoyed it, and it’ll definitely be something I’ll revisit for the vibes alone. This is definitely the weakest entry, but that’s only because the first two were SO strong - if this were a horror film released in a vacuum I think I would have loved it more. That being said, if you weren’t quite as hot on X or PEARL, maybe this one will be the one that works for you! There’s only one way to find out - go to the movies and see it on the big screen.

I FINALLY FINISHED DRACULA 🥳
Dracula is definitely deserving of its status as a gothic horror classic! It's a solid 8.5 or 9/10.
I will admit, as much as I adore the rambling style of these characters, it can be a bit of a slog to get through at times. I would've like them to be more concise, but other than that, Stoker is excellent at setting the atmosphere of a scene with his deliciously descriptive visual imagery.
He also has a knack for getting you to care about the characters and their relationships with each other. Whenever they share intimate moments with each other, you can't help but coo, and whenever they're in grave danger, you can't help but fear for them. When the actual horror hits, Stoker doesn't hold back in showing its terror, so once it's over, you can only gawk at what had just overcome the scene.
I'm so glad to have read it and have my heart torn apart, renewed and torn apart again. It's not a book I can exactly recommend if you're just picking back up the habit of reading, but with its unique language indicative of its time, it's certainly a fun challenge, and regardless, it will be a blast to read through.

I went to see Strange Darling today. It’s very hot where I live and I don’t have air conditioning, so going to a movie theater was my best option.
In the trailer for the movie, a young woman asks a guy, “Are you a serial killer?”
Where you hear a line like that, you know there’s a twist - most likely she is the serial killer, right?
The movie has received high praise by horrormeister Stephen King. But my local theater chain must not have much faith in it. They don’t screen it in the evenings (probably so they can try and pack more people into seeing of Deadpool & Wolverine).
Willa Fitzgerald plays the young woman. She’s fine in the role, alternating between helpless victim and crazed killer. But after while I just got tired of her schtick over and over. The lead guy was the surprise… he’s Kyle Gallner who I remember him from a recurring role on Smallville years ago. I thought he was good as the too horny guy who thinks with the wrong head.
The movie has lots of violence and blood. There’s an odd scene where Ed Begley Jr and Barbara Hershey play a couple of old hippies who answer their door to the wrong woman in distress. If they hadn’t died in the movie, they would have soon based on the cholesterol laden breakfast they prepare.
There must have been only 10 minutes left of the movie and it became obvious that there would be more and more blood and violence. I decided I didn’t care how it ended… and left the theater.
Despite of what I’ve said, the movie is a good cautionary tale for horny young men… if a woman asks you to handcuff her and choke her, it’s probably a good idea to put your pants back on and leave.

#GordonChoiceHickorySmokedBaconThickCut #BaconReview
I tried some of the Gordon Choice Hickory Smoked Bacon Thick Cut and it was pretty good.
This bacon was skillet cooked and later microwaved.
This bacon was crunchy while lightly chewy in texture with a light hickory and light pork taste.
It didn't taste that salty and not greasy tasting either but did leave a small amount of grease on my tiny plate.
This bacon is really good in Homemade or Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana soup.
My bacon weighed 38 g.
Got at Gordons.
The review.

It’s Stick Time! @stick-weaponry has a new post! Submitted by @icansmellthemusic They sent pics of a stick found for review!
We here at Stick Weaponry rate and review sticks found in the wild or submitted by folks.
Why? Because we use our childhood imagination as a distraction and a way to cope from modern society and bring ourselves to more fun and joyful concepts.
Look at this stick! You can use it for 1 really good whack! It’s a nice temporary staff, or a vary nice spear. I can imagine just tossing this spear with delight.
Only downside is it looks like, with the one crack along the side, it’s durability will be short lived. But this is just a joy to see. 8/10 good stick!

My Review of Footloose (1984)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 785946528947309482 of wishing I was a teen in the 80s. Footloose feels like summer, and tastes like a sweet sugary popsicle. The dancing is fun, the fighting too, and I was delighted and pleasantly surprised to see a young SJP. A good soundtrack goes a long way, and let me tell you, whoever was in charge of selecting the music...they did their job RIGHT and they absolutely delivered.
One of my favourite parts, or at least, a part that really resonated was "it doesn't take long for corruption to take root." followed by the reverend's response: "oh yeah, how long is that? about as long as it takes for compassion to die?" I could write an essay but I won't, though I do feel that a lot of people resonate with this film, and if anything its very topical now, especially with the book burning scene. The reverend though apprehensive about all the rock and roll music, tries to bring the townsfolk to their senses and tells them to be compassionate and judge themselves. that they don't have the authority to judge others. It's a really good example of why we should not be shielded and sheltered from the realities of the world, especially by means of classic literature (how dare they not like Slaughterhouse V).

heyyyy, bestie. how are you doing after the last few weeks? feeling any better? well, we weren’t when we recorded this episode. we were still processing some pretty bad news — but that’s actually sort of to theme. on our newest spooky tuesday, we’re talking about smile (2022), a movie all about trauma and trying to grin-and-bear your way through it. a few years back, this was one of the season’s most hotly anticipated flicks, but it didn’t necessarily stick the landing. opinions were split here at spooky tuesday, but after chelsea and monica saw smile 2 in 4dx (which totally slayed, btw), we were finally ready to revisit it and get sydney’s take. join us as we discuss curses, share our theories, and lay the groundwork for our eventual episode where we give skye riley the shine she deserves.
give spooky tuesday a listen on apple podcasts, spotify, iheart radio, or stitcher
