Baatar Jr appreciation week day 7: Legacy
"Building a legacy"
Baatar Jr was worried he is just going to be just a copy of his father. But he wanted to be different. He wanted to contribute something to the world, hoping to create his own legacy.
Baatar was up early in the morning. Preparing for the day to make it as productive as possible. An idea occurred to him that morning and he was enthusiastic to share that idea with his father today. Baatar was sure this will make him stand out and be noticed after being behind his father. He will no longer just be "like his father". Baatar was going to prove to everyone that he was going to contribute something new.
---------------------
He didn't even listen to him. His father just responded with an ok then asked him to help him with another project he had in mind. His father completely ignored what he had to say. He didn't see how much his idea could impact Zaofu and how much potential his son has. Baatar felt like his talents were just being used by his father and never recognized by anyone. Baatar felt frustrated with his dad for failing to see his potential and at himself to think that he could turn things around.
He was walking down the hallway trying to calm himself down at what just happened. He hummed his favorite song as he tried to get the issue out of his mind. Baatar walked pass a room and heard his mother talking to someone. Baatar isn't nosy and he doesn't normally stick his nose in someone's business. But he was curios to know if his mother was different than his father. If she appreciated him. He listen to their conversation but told himself he'll leave if the matter isn't about him and that it's none of his business.
Suyin was talking to Tenzin and President Raiko, they have some matters to discuss. But before that they were chatting. Baatar listened as his mom was telling them how proud she was with her children. He was about to find out if his mom appreciated his talents unlike his dad.
.....
"My second son Huan, he's been really busy lately creating all this wonderful work of art. He is really a talented artist."
.....
"Well I'm glad Opal is doing great at the air temple Tenzin, I miss her very much and I know someday she'll be a master."
.....
"I'm very proud of my twin sons. They never failed to make me proud. Their prodigies just their grandmother."
.....
"My first born, Baatar Jr, he is also doing good he is going to grow up just like his father."
.....
"Just like his father"
Well he heard enough. His mother also thought the same and that hurt him on the inside. Baatar stopped eavesdropping on their conversation. All of his siblings had something special that made them different. But him no, apparently he is "just like his father." He sat at the bench outside the building trying to calm himself down. He started questioning himself.
"I am different, I have something to offer into this world."
"I am not a copy of my father, I am not a copy of my father, I am not a copy of my father, I am not a copy of my father,"
Just then Kuvira exited the building she seemed upset about something. Baatar got up and approached her.
"Hey are you ok?"
Kuvira turned around, she had an upset expression on her face but that faded and she calmed down a little. It calmed her down that Baatar was concern about her and him having his hand on her shoulder and asking if she was ok made her feel better.
"yeah...no...I'm just upset about something."
He knew it was of his business but he wanted to help her anyways.
"You...wanna talk about it"
She stunned at what he said. She could see he was trying to help her and Kuvira appreciated it a lot. So she told her what happened and how Suyin didn't want to do anything about the situation of the earth kingdom and how much they could do to the nation. Baatar listened to everything she said and to her surprise Baatar agreed with her.
"Really?"
"Yeah I think that's a great idea. We could really help the nation."
Her face lit up. Kuvira was happy that he was listening to her and can see her vision for the earth kingdom. They continued walking together.
"How about you? Are you ok"
"Well...no. I had this great idea and I know this could really be helpful but my dad shrugged it off. He never appreciated my talents."
"That's terrible how he treated you."
Baatar: *sighs*
"What was your idea about?"
"...You want to know?"
"Yeah let's hear it."
Baatar proceeded to tell her about his idea. She seemed very eager to listen and was very impress about his ideas. So he kept telling her more. Kuvira appreciated him and saw his potential unlike his father. Baatar felt happy that someone was seeing his capabilities. Unlike his parents.
"Those are all great idea. How could your father just ignored it."
Baatar smiled "I am glad you appreciate it." she smiled back.
They both have something in common. They both want to do something better for the earth kingdom and both their ideas were denied by people they taught would be happy about it. A thought entered Kuvira's mind.
"You know we both agree on making the earth kingdom better and no one is listening to us. We'll just take matters into our hands and do something for the nation."
"Meaning getting out of Zaofu, I'd love to help but my parents are here."
"Their hiding your talents from the rest of the world. If you join me you could so much than staying here."
Baatar didn't respond and was in silence. This was a big decision and he is thinking about it. Kuvira held both of her hands on one of his.
"Please think about it for me." And she pulled him in for a kiss. he blushed and their lips parted.
-----------------
Baatar was up all night thinking about it. Joining with Kuvira meant leaving his family behind. His family that he grew up with and raised him. He thought more about what Kuvira said and realized she appreciated him. She could see his talents and the good it can do to others. His parents didn't and if he kept staying he'll always be hidden. Baatar made up his mind and joined Kuvira. Together they formed a plan and left Zaofu. It was tough being away from home and his family. But now he was with Kuvira accomplishing more than when he did back home. They were happy being together. They even got engaged one day. He is happy that he is stabilizing the earth kingdom. Instead of being unnoticed in his father's shadow he was finally making his own legacy.

My Father's Legacy
Written for Baatar Jr Appreciation Week Day 4: Expectations
---
Chew with your mouth closed. Sit up straight.
Study.
Don't speak unless spoken to. Wear your best clothes. Always be professional.
Study.
Say "please" and "thank you." Wash your hands and comb your hair. Tidy up your room, and always, always, treat a lady with respect.
That was all. That was his life in a nutshell. For him, at least. The firstborn son to the wealthy Zaofu matriarch and her brilliant husband, who rarely, if ever, can keep much of a conversation. It wasn't enough that Suyin named him after his father; he was practically the spitting image of him too. A replica, perhaps. An exact, carbon copy who did nothing besides sit in his room all day reading books filled with numbers and symbols, only to occasionally have the opportunity to walk outside for twenty minutes or so to get a bit of fresh air.
He takes in a huge whiff through his nostrils. Ah, yes....this is better.... The scent of the moon flowers sprouting up in his mother's flower bed beyond the meteorite garden filled his senses. Spring was finally here. Most people didn't realize, or even had the slightest knowledge of how cold it could actually get in Zaofu during the winter time. When you live right next to a large mountain range, anything can-
And there she was.
The beauty that fell from the heavens to his doorstep just a few years ago; she was practically a gift. And what luck had Raava bestowed upon him to have such a lovely Earth Kingdom flame in his presence. What would he have given to be with her for the rest of his life.....
But she wasn't rich. She had no family and she didn't come from money. Two big "no-noes" from mother. Su was doing her a favor - letting her stay under her roof until she made the decision to go on her own once she came of age. Given that she wasn't doing so hot getting along with the Beifongs, except for Baatar of course, it was inevitable at this point.
Kuvira.... A name so sweet, yet so potent with power. How could someone, as beautiful as her, get dumped on the side of the road? She definitely was a feisty one, he had to admit. At first, she was skeptical of him, not knowing whether or not he'd push her away just as his sister had. All it took was a small piece of an egg custard tart that he stole from the kitchen to give to her upon finding her crying outside in the meteorite garden on her first night at the estate to make her trust him.
They were close, but still had to keep their distance from each other somewhat so Su wouldn't get any wrong ideas. In her eyes, Kuvira was an unsuitable bride. She was just a restless child with a whole lot of strength and ambition that needed to be nurtured. Suyin wanted all her children to fall in love and have offspring of their own, but only with the right people.
"Jr.! Jr., shouldn't you be studying right now?!" His mother shouts in a stern voice as she walks briskly towards him. Baatar whips his head around in fright. She didnt seem amused in the slightest. "Also, your father has been looking everywhere for you! What're you doing out-" She looks beyond him out into the flower bed and spots the very person he was gawking at. Shaking her head in disapproval, Su then grabs her son by the ear and drags him back into the house.
As soon as they reached her study, she plopped him down onto the chair in front of her desk and started barking at him. "You know better! I told you to stay away from her Jr.! She's my pupil - not your love interest! And I hope you haven't kissed her yet?!"
Baatar let out a deep sigh. "No Mother. I haven't. And besides, I'm thirteen. Why can't I kiss a girl?"
"She's not your type! I'm afraid she'll only hurt you...."
"Why can't I be the judge of that?"
"Because you're too young to understand what love truly is!" She caught her breath immediately as she watched her husband walk in through the brass doors of her study.
He looked completely confused at the situation already taking place. "Su? What's going on here? I heard yelling. Is everything alright?" Baatar silently thanked the Spirits for his father's presence, saving him from his mother's temperament.
She regained her composure before responding to his questions. "Everything's fine Baatar. No need to worry. I've got it all under control. Jr. here was just getting a little distracted with things other than his studies...." She eyeballs her son with that "I'm not taking any of your shit" look she usually threatened people with.
All her husband could say was "Oh," before turning his attention toward his son, seeming a bit troubled, but skeptical of his behavior. "Jr., is this true? We talked about this, didn't we?" There was that awkward moment of silence again; anytime his father changed the inflection of his voice, Baatar knew he was bound to be in deep shit. Probably one of the scariest things he's ever encountered in his entire life so far was Baatar Sr. getting upset. Violently upset. He's only ever been yelled at by him once. The first being a couple years ago when he accidentally broke one of the models for his father's maglev project that he'd been working on for a long time. Su tended to get angry and go haywire more often than not, but at the end of the day, it was nothing compared to the level of crazy his father could get. Underneath that usually calm, tranquil exterior, a madman laid dormant.
Baatar looked away from him and frowned. "Yes Father. We have."
"Then why don't you listen to us Jr.?"
"You know we have rules." Su piped in.
"And we expect you to follow them. We're trying to prepare you for the real world. Your schooling is important." His father continued.
"We want you to go to Ba Sing Se University. It's what we always wanted for you. It's your destiny." There she goes, adding more fuel to the fire now. Does she ever stop talking?
"I'm sorry if you have to stay in your room all the time, but it pays off. Trust me. You'll learn more from me than some of those teachers at a regular school. I just wish you'd appreciate the opportunity you have here more."
"You're a smart boy. You'll succeed and do well. You just need to show us that you care just as much as we do." But what if I don't care? Where's my opinion come into play? It's not fair. Why can't they just let me do whatever I want sometimes? Opal, Huan, and the twins don't have to deal with this pressure. So why do I? I wish they'd just listen to me sometimes for Raava's sake! It's like they don't care! It's always about what they want! Why should I have to live up to Dad’s legacy?!
Infuriated, Baatar Jr. jolts up from his seat and walks right out of his mother's study, returning to his own room. Slamming the door behind him, and now in the recluse that his small, dim-lit box-shaped bedroom offered him, he takes a deep breath in through his nostrils and out again. After about a moment or two of total silence, he then commenced his release of all that anger and frustration bottled up inside him from all the years gone by, throwing his books and graphing paper and other academic resources out of the window. Loose-leafs with small design sketches and multiple equations on them were all crumpled up into a ball and thrown this way and that across the room. Knick-knacks on his work desk were cast aside as well, without even thinking twice about them in the first place - things that he didn't intentionally mean to chuck at the walls behind him but did anyway out of sheer rage.
Just when he was in the middle of his existential crisis, he heard a soft knock at his door. Baatar placed his desk chair back down to its proper place after coming so close to wanting to throw that across the room as well, and went over to meet his unexpected visitor. Upon opening the door, he came face-to-face with his little sister. She bends her head to the side slightly to get a better visual of the state his room was in, causing him to blush with embarrassment in the process. “Opal,” he began, “What are you doing here? Do you need anything?” He scratches his head a bit, not sure of how he should go about explaining to his younger sibling how his room got that way in the first place.
"How come you're making all that noise in your room? Are you upset? What happened?" She questions in curiosity. There was almost no point in explaining his predicament to her; she wouldn't really understand what he was going through. She was only nine years old anyway. And what were the odds that she'd leave right at this moment to holler down the hall for their parents' attention? She'd cause a frenzy saying things like "Big brother trashed his room," or "Big brother is really angry and I think he needs help." In a way, Opal was just like her mother - always making a big deal out of everything. Then again, that bad temperament seemed to run in the family. But no, Jr.....sweet, sweet, intelligent little Jr., wasn't allowed to show his emotions or get angry like a normal person would, because he was supposed to be just like his father - a man so calm and collected it seemed as if he had little to no emotion at all. Just sit back and keep quiet. Do what your father does. Maybe if you don't make much of a scene and stay behind him in his shadow all the time, no one will notice you and question your ability to earthbend or not. The embarrassment and the wierd stares aren't needed. It makes mother look bad to important visitors and guests. We wouldn't want that, now would we?
As much love and affection Baatar understood that his mother had for his father, he still couldn't understand why she expected so much out of him - to be the second Baatar in her life. It was practically maddening.
Sometimes he wished he could just run away from it all. Run away from all the money and the family clout that barred him from having the opportunity to show others who he really was on the inside; his true worth and true self. For one day, all he wants is to be free. Free from the bondage of his books, free from being overcast by his father's shadow, free from all the guilt of not being good enough, free from the frustration of not being a bender burning on his mother's conscience, and free from all the outlandish displays of perfection and lies this city seemed to boast under all that metal.
It was all a facade. A facade to not only make his mother look good and eliminate all the sketchy shit she'd done on the side lines, but to uphold the Beifong reputation; and with that reputation, came great expectations. As the firstborn son of a renowned architect and the queen of a thriving city-state and heiress to an enormous fortune, he was expected to carry on that legacy, or at least, support it. Suyin wouldn't want the title of "matriarch" to fade away just because she handed over the throne to a man; she had her own legacy to protect as well. Why would she pass on her role as leader to a boy who couldn't even earthbend and wasn't a female in general? No, such an honor had to be bestowed at least upon his sister, if no one else. Then again, he knew very well that she had doubts about that too. Her hushed whispers behind a locked door at night with his father made it seem so.
So then, what was his purpose? To act as a living reminder of who and what Baatar Beifong Sr. was, once he was dead and gone off to the Spirit World? To carry on a legacy that his father had already started and cemented into the history books?
No, he had to forge his own path. Not play the puppet on someone else's strings. Someday, he'll make his mark on the world, by doing something no one's ever done before. He was smart just like his father - a natural-born inventor - but he'd be better at it.
It was only just a matter of time before he met his true destiny.

Baatar felt his silver cufflinks begin to rattle, a telltale sign that Kuvira was spiraling. On her next lap past him, he reached for her hand. “Would a hug or the statistical odds of a Red Lotus attack tonight make you feel better right now?”
OR
Varrick throws a ball for the world leaders that absolutely no one asked for.

OH ALSO I finished watching Legend of Korra and here is non spoiler thoughts: I really enjoyed it and just like atla I cried at every single season finale. I really like that the main cast while still young, is older than the lITERAL children of atla. atla still holds up watching it as an adult, but I feel like korra is a bit more my jive. There is only one episode that I won’t watch again (season 4 remembrances, when you are binging the show it isn’t necessary as it’s a recap and not as fun as ember island players which serves the same purpose in atla. Also I looked on IMDB, that is the lowest rated episode. I agree. Honestly, if you are binging you can skip it) but I can def see myself watching the whole thing again. Season 1 is my overall favorite of the series.
Spoiler thoughts below the cut because WOW I HAVE THOUGHTS (it’s long)
hi spoiler time last chance to look away
Before going into LOK I had read a decent amount of spoilers beforehand since this aired back in 2012-2014. I don’t think I even knew about it after it was nearly done so the one thing I knew was that Korra & Asami get together lol. Anyway my point is I knew what was coming overall.
Season 1: My personal favorite, I think it’s a really strong stand alone season. I thought it was really smart to begin the series in the water tribe again, as well as with Katara as that’s how ATLA started. I also think its really clever that with Aang, he was very spiritual and a master airbender already, but needed to learn the other 3 element. Korra is the opposite. It helps it not be so repetitive. We already saw one avatar working to master fire, water, and earth. I also realized how used to the world of atla I was and was confused for a split second how Mako and Bolin were brothers but one was an earthbender and one was a firebender... Yeah I know I’m dumb and I forgot that its a different world lol.  -Another strong point was that no matter how in danger Korra got in season 1 she never went into the avatar state, because as she says in what ep 1? that she has never been good at the spiritual side of being the avatar. Part of me kept expecting it to happen, but even the final showdown with Amon it didn’t so I was like oh damn. The finale when she does go into the avatar state with Aang giving her the bending she lost back.... I was a wreck. Sobbing my eyes out it just HIT ME.  -Other moments that hit me hard: Hearing Dante Basco’s voice as General Iroh ow my soul, Hearing through Katara that Sokka is dead, The flashbacks to the trial of the bloodbender (forgot his name??) and seeing them get bloodbent HURTS MY HEART. And every time Aang’s statue was shown. ;-; Also, just like ATLA there isn’t a main character that I dislike. I genuinely like Korra, Asami, Mako, & Bolin as a team. Lin is my favorite which not hard being Toph’s daughter lol. Tenzin and fam are a delight (though Meelo can get on my nerves but eh)  TL:DR SEASON 1 IS GREAT I CAN’T WAIT TO WATCH IT AGAIN!!
Season 2: Alright so. A lot of Spirit World dealings. Unalaq being a GASP evil brother??? LOK has a thing about brothers lol. First with Amon and whathisname, now with Korra’s dad and uncle. Anyway, season 2 I really like too. Yes even the finale. And it’s been a few weeks (maybe months??) since I watched season 2 so the finale is really all that stands out. Other than that I do really like seeing the story of the first avatar. OH MAN AND IROH IN THE SPIRIT WORLD HAD ME ALL SORTS OF LEVELS OF EMOTIONAL. -SO. This was the big spoiler I knew going in, that the past lives of the Avatar are severed from Korra. I know that A LOT of people really don’t like it either. And upon hearing that plot point I didn’t like it as well. But when I sat down and watched the whole series. I actually thought it was the right thing to do. And I didn’t mind it as much as I thought. Korra can no longer call upon the past lives which is sad, but those Avatars still existed. And with Tenzin being so prevalent in the show, it really feels like Aang is still there in spirit. The reason I thought it was the right thing to do with the story, is that it let’s the show as a whole exist on it’s own. IDK how to properly explain.. I get why people don’t like it, but it makes sense to me. -And I do commend the show runners for sticking to this. There is no getting contact back with the past lives. Which, personally I approve of. Whenever you do something world altering like that it annoys me when the show takes it back. My main gripe is people dying but wAIT NO THEY’RE ALIVE!!! It lessens the stakes. And I think a through line of Korra is that actions have consequences. TL;DR I LIKE SEASON 2 AS WELL. DOESN’T LEAVE A LASTING IMPRESSION SINCE THE FINALE IS SUCH A BIG DEAL.
Season 3: I THINK this would be my second favorite season. I REALLY like Zaheer as I guess the ~big bad~ and the squad he has. SO much so that I’m actually upset that they all are dead by the end. I think P’Li is done the dirtiest. You see and know very little about her until an ~exposition~ line a few scenes before she dies. (But damn if the scene of Su throwing her metal breastplate around her head isn’t hardcore cool. I haven’t said yet but the fight sequences in Korra??? Amazing.) Bolin finding out he can Lavabend??? oh hell yeah that’s the good shit, same with lavabending in GENERAL. seeing what people can REALLY do with their bending is probably my favorite part about Korra. I do think Zaheer looks a little silly when he starts flying around, but hey that part is cool too. Also easily the most horrified I’ve been watching this show was the pulling the aiR OUT OF SOMEONE. JESUS. Up until that point Airbending still seemed like the least dangerous form but HOLY SHIT. I will say that the way Kuvira is if not introduced/ we’re reminded about her in the finale is a little bit more like “uhhh is Korra’s dad going to have an affair???” to me than “she gonna be the big bad next season” Also on IMDB the finale of season 3 is the highest rated finale.
Season 4: Even thought this has the same number of episodes as season 3, it feels the most rushed to me. However I do appreciate the timejump and GODTDAMN I love me some old lady Toph. I also like that Toph says that she’s watching Su & Lin through the swamp, an episode or two later Su and Zaofu are attacked and captured, and when Lin, Opal, and Bolin go to Zaofu to try and rescue, Toph is there. It’s a nice payoff. As Su was getting captured I was thinking “hmmmm does Toph see this” And she does, which has her leave the swamp, so she’s not there when Kuvira’s army is cutting vines. Because cmon is Toph was there she woulda kicked their asses. -The huge mecha suit with the spirit weapon on it is HARROWING. I like that Baatar Jr. see’s that Kuvira was gonna kill him for thE gREatER gOOD and was instantly like “oh shit well i guess my loyalties were wrong then ok” Oh and out of order but I had a feeling that Zhu Li was telling Kuvira what she wanted to hear to be sneaky and I was v happy to be proven right by Toph. I ALSO like that things like Toph being able to tell if people are lying aren’t forgotten about. Also... Cried like a baby at Zhu Li and Varrick’s wedding. Haven’t mentioned Varrick yet but hot damn if he isn’t one of my favorite characters. What I wouldn’t GIVE to have Sokka and Varrick brainstorm some truly crazy shit. 10/10.  TL;DR SEASON 3 IS REALLY GOOD AND SEASON 4 IS GOOD BUT FEELS LIKE IT’S TOO SHORT.
But yeah. Overall I really enjoyed it. I looked through the episodes on IMDB and nearly everything is above 8.5 except for some of the first episodes in season 2 which I get. I can tell that this is by the same team that did ATLA. It feels so much the same. And I think there was the right amount of the original peeps or their kids but still was focusing on our core four. Other little things:
- I like that the “villains” or ig the conflicts of people weren’t anyone from the Fire Nation. (Although do we know where Zaheer is from??? Family lineage?) Well regardless, what we have is Amon: Waterbender, Unalaq: Waterbender, Zaheer: Airbender, Kuvira: Earthbender. ATLA we were fighting the fire nation, LOK has the range lol. - I do wish we could have been in the Fire Nation tho. I wanna see what’s it like over there :( - Adored seeing all the changes to the world. In ATLA we see the blimps/airships more or less being invented and then 70 years later AIRSHIPS AND CARS GALORE. And having radios/phones VERY nice. Don’t have to rely on letters or talking in person.  - I really like Korra. I feel like it needs to be said lol, but I thoroughly enjoyed her as the Avatar (maybe more than Aang??) - Zuko’s face after Korra says she talked to Iroh in the spirit world I’m not crying you are.
ANYWAY. I think that’s it. I just needed to get it all out somewhere. Not a perfect show (neither is atla) but damn if it isn’t some of the best TV out there. If you read all of that woW good job.

The Soldier
Baavira Week Day 7: What If
Summary: What if Baatar had been the adopted child and Kuvira the BeiFong?
Kuvira eyes the boy with curiosity, he is about her age, with pretty green eyes and a friendly smile. But he is dirty and he smells kind of strange. “Kuvira, this is Baatar Jr.” Suyin introduces. Kuvira crinkles her noes but takes his hand anyways.
“He’s going to be a part of our family.”
Kuvira tilts her head, rather perplexed by this notion. How is it that a person just becomes part of a family that they weren’t born into? “Why?” She asks.
Suyin pinches the bridge of her nose. “Because he doesn’t have a family of his own. Not all parents are nice to their kids.” She tries to explain. “Some parents don’t appreciate what they have.” She turns to Baatar and gives his head a rub. “But that’s okay, because we appreciate them.”
“Why does he have the same name as dad?” Kuvira asks.
“His parents didn’t give him a name, so I did. I gave him one that will let him know that he will always be a part of our family.” Suyin answers.
Kuvira doesn’t quite understand this either.
“Introduce yourself.”
Kuvira steps forward and, rather loudly, declares her name. She thrusts a hand out. The boy, Baatar, clings to Suyin’s legs, hiding behind her. Kuvira pouts. Suyin unhooks him from her legs and gives him a small nudge forward. Kuvira forcefully sticks her arm out again. “I’m Kuvira.”
He keeps his hands behind his back and mumbles, “I’m Baatar,” getting quieter with each syllable until his introduction is barely audible.
“Want to play with my toys?” Kuvira asks, hoping to evoak a more enthusiastic reply.
He shrugs, timid as ever.
“I have a lot of toys! Su bought them for me!” She picks the nearest one off of the ground and practically shoves it in his face. The boy tears up and Kuvira frowns. “What’s wrong with him?”
Now Suyin is frowning too. “There’s nothing wrong with him.” She responds, sternly. “He’s just very shy and very upset. Wouldn’t you be sad and scared if I left you?”
Kuvira thinks for a moment. “I’d be able to find you! And I’d be fine.”
Suyin bites her lip. “But what if I didn’t want you to find me? Wouldn’t you be afraid.”
Kuvira caves in and nods.
“Just give Baatar a little time to get used to things. I promise, you two will love each other.”
Kuvira looks at the sniffling, teary-eyed boy. She doesn’t know about that. He’s all snotty and a cry baby.
.oOo.
She scares him and he doesn’t know why she keeps pestering him. She is loud and hyper and constantly builds pillow forts and block forts only to topple them down. That would be fine, except she’ll kick his forts down too and tell him that, “if you don’t like it then you need to send yer militarly, soldier!’ She takes pointing out that it is pronounced, ‘military’, as grounds for war.
Currently, Kuvira sits in another fortress of blocks. She has them spread across her half of the bedroom and onto his half.
Baatar frowns, “this is my side of the room, get your toys on your side.”
She laughs. “I’m expanding my empire!” She declares. “Surrender yer room, soldier!”
Baatar pushes at his glasses and sighs. Before she can throw one of the blocks at him he puts up his hands. Kuvira frowns. “You’re not apposed to actually surrender.” So he is stuck playing soldiers with her.
Such is her nature.
“Are you picking on Baatar again?” Suyin arches a brow.
“Mmm mmm, no mom.” Kuvira shakes her head and smiles innocently.
“Well, I think that Baatar wants to play on his own now.”
Baatar nods, he really does.  But then she does that thing where she folds her arms and pouts and wanders into a corner to sulk. With an audible groan he grumbles, “it’s fine, we can keep playing soldier, but I want to build stuff.”
“Soldiers don’t build things!”
“Yeah-huh.” Baatar argues. “They can design war stuff.” He holds up a some crudely drawn blueprints. “I thought of this design all by myself.”
Kuvira peers over his shoulder. “What is it?”
“It’s a firebending Satomobile that can fly.”
Kuvira thinks for a moment. “I guess we can expand the empire using that.” She yanks it from his hand and tapes it to the wall. Baatar shoots a pleading look to Suyin, but she looks humored by his misadventure.
“Okay, soldier! It’s time to make stuff for our empire!” Kuvira declares.
His new sister is crazy, he thinks. But somehow it makes him feel like he really is and always has been a BeiFong. She doesn’t give him any special treatment for being adopted. She’s bossy and kind of obnoxious. But he thinks that he likes her.

Baatar Jr appreciation week Day 4: Dancing
"Dim lights"
Fic is about teen Baatar and his first dance at a school event. He doesn't like dancing until...
He doesn’t like to dance…
It was a regular school day on Monday. It was only a few minutes before lunch time. The students were staring at the clock waiting for class to finally end. Baatar also cannot wait for lunch time he was very hungry. Then the finally the bell rang, each student got up their seat.
“Wait, hold on sit back down I got an announcement this will only take a minute” Mrs. Kimi said.
Aw man what now. Baatar thought to himself.
“As you all know the school valentine’s day dance will be this Friday. Everyone must come whether you have someone to take to the dance or not. Your attendance will be checked at the entrance of the gymnasium.”
Wait what, why is this important, why can’t I chose to stay home when I don’t have a partner to the dance.
He isn’t a big fan of dancing unlike most of his classmates. They even have someone in mind for who they’re going to ask to dance. He was a shy kid and only know have a few friends. He didn’t know who to ask for dance.
I’ll just probably stand in corner until it’s over.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lunch time! Baatar sat with few of friends and some of his friendly classmates who decided to sit with them in the cafeteria. All they could ever talk about is who they’re going to ask to dance. Baatar just sat there and pretended he was thinking who to ask for the dance.
Baatar got home, he had dinner with his family. He didn’t mentioned the dance but his mother already knew. Suyin was excited for her son’s first dance. She remember hers and how happy she was.
“Oh I’m still thinking who to ask” Baatar said. After dinner he went to his room to start on homework. He opened his backpack and a folded piece of paper fell off. He taught it was one his notes so he placed in on his desk, grab his book and started reading. Later he took the paper and unfolded it.
Wait this isn’t my algebra notes.
He couldn’t recognize whose handwriting it was and who it’s from. He read it.
Hello Baatar, I was wondering if you’d be my date to the dance. I was too nervous to approach you in school. I didn’t know how to you ask either. So if your answer is a yes then I'll see you this Friday at the entrance of the gym. If no then that’s ok I understand if you don’t like to dance.
He was stunned by what he read. He didn’t know anyone would want to be his date to the dance. Baatar started to wonder who this was. Could be his seatmate, his partner in his science project, that super friendly classmate he had, Amori, Culine, Konnie, Juza. Who? He couldn’t shake the feeling who put that letter in his backpack and why they’d want him to be their date. Then a thought hit him. Maybe this was a mistake, a prank by his siblings or classmates. In the end he decided to go to the dance anyway and see who this is. It’s not like he could skip the event attendance is need.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The day of the dance came. The dance committee did a good job decorating the gym and the lights were dim to set the mood. He wrote his name on the attendance sheet and waited for his “date”. A few people were already on the dance floor dancing with their dates. 10 minutes goes by no one approach him. His friends were already hanging out with their dates. 20 minutes, 30, 40. No one. Eventually he got bored so he decided to help himself with the snacks the dance committee set up in a long table.
I guess my date bailed on me. Mmmmm muffins.
After helping himself with the snacks he thought
I should just head home, maybe after a few more muffin mmmmm.
He finished eating and he decided to let the song end before leaving. It was a good music.
My jam, too bad I don’t have a date.
He started at his shoes as he listened to the song. Then suddenly someone held out their hand in front of him. Whoever the person was is gesturing Baatar to some dance with them. Baatar wasn’t expecting this, he slowly lift his head to see who it was.
Kuvira?! No way can’t it be her.
Kuvira had a warm smile in her face. It looked like she was eager to dance with him. So he took her hand and they headed for the dance floor. Once they were in the dance floor Baatar didn’t know what to do so he copied the others. He held her hand and the other hand he placed on her waist. Kuvira seem to know how to dance. He didn’t know how to dance with her so he just followed her lead. Baatar thought about asking her if she was the one who gave him that letter. Then he thought
Nah it can’t be her I bet she just felt pity on me because I was alone.
The entire time they were dancing Kuvira locked her gaze on Baatar and she was smiling at him the whole time. Kuvira was wearing a flowy long sparkly dress. It made her look so ravishing.
Her smile…She looks so pretty.
Kuvira looked like she was sparkling. Had he always felt this way around her, was she always this beautiful. Baatar suddenly felt nervous, everything looked blurry except Kuvira, his entire body shaking a little bit and he felt butterflies in his stomach. Or it was the muffins he ate earlier .Baatar was having fun he didn’t think he would.
“You look beautiful Kuvira and…. You’re really good at dancing” Baatar said to break the silence
She looked away blushing.
It’s just her make-up. Baatar said in his mind
“T..Thanks..you..look…quite handsome yourself”
He felt his face turn red. He didn’t quite understand what he was feeling. But it felt good. He tried to act natural.
“....Thanks for saying yes by the way”
So it has her. No way.
She looked ecstatic dancing with him. Baatar never knew she felt this way.“eheh…How could I say no to you” Baatar felt stupid, it was the only responce he could think of. She smiled happily back at him. They were both smiling at each other admiringly. Baatar felt something he couldn’t explain. A very happy feeling but also felt light headed. Magic. This what he felt when they are holding each other and dancing together to the beat of the music. Feeling even more happy and light headed each step of the dance. Baatar felt he is gonna drop to the floor with this light headed feeling but also that other feeling he couldn’t explain was keeping with up and dancing. They let their emotions take over the dance. They continued dancing throughout the night.
Baatar realized something
He does loves to dance.

Baatar Jr appreciation week Day 3: Family/Fatherhood
"Younger days"
(Note: This fic contains my headcanons about Baatar and his siblings that I never bothered to post until now😶)
Baatar laid down on his bed starring at the ceiling and lost in his thoughts. House arrest can be pretty boring. He thought about going to Kuvira's room, she was in house arrest too and their rooms were right next to each other. But he was still angry and doesn't feel comfortable to talking to her yet. Maybe some other time. Time seemed to be slower now that he was locked up. His thoughts drifted to the time when he was young and time felt like it went fast. And now here he is alone. Then he thought about his siblings and the times they shared together when they were kids.
felt like that happened yesterday...
As they were growing up they also grew apart. They were close to each other as kids and then did their own thing as they got older. Baatar kept thinking about their younger days. Fun and simple days
Huan...
He remember how happy he was when his parents told him he was going to be an older brother. As an only child at that time in their big house he wanted someone to play with. He was too shy to talk to the other kids so he was thrilled that he going to have a baby brother. Baatar was so happy when Huan was born. It was just the two them playing tag or hide and seek in their big house. As little kids they would play together and sometimes he'd help him with his homework. Other times they'd draw or paint all over the floor then they'd both get in trouble.
Baatar chuckled to himself as he remembered that moment.
It was at that time Huan discovered his talent and love for art that he developed as he got older and better at it. He liked painting with his younger brother. Those were some of the good memories he had with his brother Huan. He wished he could do that again.
Opal...
His only sister. When she was born him and Huan were both delighted to have a little sister. Huan was more excited than him cause he was now an older brother. Baatar remember what Huan said to him that he wanted to be a great older to Opal as he was to him.
He smiled as he remember that comment it really warmed his heart.
Now it was the three of them. Opal was very playful as a child and she loved hanging out with her older brothers. They'd walk her to class, listen to her stories during her time in school and they were a good influence to her. Baatar Sr and Suyin was very happy their little ones were getting along so well. Sometime when Opal was in her teen years she could always rely on her brother to give her some good advice.
Wei and Wing...
Before the twins were born they already knew that their new little brothers were going to be twins. One time their grandmother, Toph came to visit. Because of her seismic sense ability she was able sense two heartbeats inside Su. So they were really excited to hear the news that they were gonna have twin baby brothers and when the twins were born the family was complete.
The five of them were inseparable. As young kids they would always hang out together. It was always fun when all five of them are together. They'd play on the weekends and sometimes all of them would get in trouble. Yes as siblings sometime they don't get along all the time. But it was nice to remembering all these great moments with his siblings. Back in the time they were all close to one another.
------------------------------------------------------
Baatar was an inspiration to his younger siblings, he never knew and they never told him told him that but he always has been. Although Baatar felt like he was nothing special unlike his siblings with their certain talents he was in his father's shadow, unappreciated. But little did he know his siblings always had adored him. Despite some fights here and there deep down they appreciate him being a good influence. They were all disappointed when he turned his back on them to join Kuvira. He never knew how much they have always appreciated him. Despite growing apart, being disappointed and mad at what he did he was always their inspiration and good older brother. If only he knew.
------------------------------------------------------
Baatar smiled to himself as he remembered all those great memories with his siblings and how close they were as kids. He wished he could relive those moments again. Those were the better days. He wondered if he should reconnect to them but after what he did he was starting to have seconds thoughts.
Maybe it's best if I stay here....
but it's also best to start even a small deed...
Baatar got out his room. He walked on the hallway. His body trembling as he took each step. His heart raced and he felt very nervous. He was really thinking about going back but he got this far and there was no turning back. This was his chance. Finally he got to a room and he was standing outside its door. This is what the guard told him when he asked where siblings are. It was fortunate that all of them gathered in that room. Baatar took a deep breath and opened the door slowly. They all turned their glaze towards the door. They were all staring at him in silence and with an impassive look on their face. Baatar decided he should say something first.
...
...
...
Hey guys...
------------------------------------------------------
Slowly but eventually he managed to be back in good terms with his siblings. One by one they started to forgive and fix their bond. They were still wasn't as close as they were as kids but he made a good progress.
