ok ok oKAY STAY CALM BC HOW IS BUCK’S APARTMENT SMOKEY WITHOUT THE SMOKE DETECTOR GOING OFF????
AND EDDIE LIED TO BUCK AND CHRISTOPHER TO GO CHEAT ON HIS GIRLFRIEND???
SO IF BUCK APARTMENT DID BURN DOWN NOT ONLY WOULD IT BE AWFUL BUT EDDIE WOULD BE SO RACKED WITH GUILT THAT HE LIED HE WOULD LITERALLY FORCE BUCK TO STAY WITH HIM
MARISOL WOULD BREAK UP WITH HIM WHEN SHE REALIZED WHERE HE WAS SO SHE WOULDNT BE AN ISSUE
TOMMY WOULD PROBABLY STICK AROUND FOR A SHORT TIME BEFORE ACKNOWLEDGING THE GAY ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM
THIS IS HOW WE WIN

Buck is at the firehouse when it happens. His phone is on the table, trying to sort of "out of sight, out of mind" the whole thing. If he's not staring at the text thread between him and Tommy, it doesn't exist. And if it doesn't exist, he doesn't have to worry about whether or not Tommy is bubbling him for the fifth time in as many days (that he's aware of).
So he's focusing on this new baked mac n cheese recipe he found, that used five different types of cheese and a bechamel sauce and everything and he doesn't even register the vibrations from his phone thrumming against the table.
The screen is face down, so peering over the counter doesn't help figure out who's calling him. Everyone else is downstairs, doing this task or that, so he can't ask someone to get it for him.
His hands are full with the baking pan he put the mac n cheese in and an open oven door, waiting.
The sudden stop of the vibrations are what launches Buck into action. He shoves the pan into the oven and slams it with more force he'd been meaning to.
He scoops up his phone and there's the notification. One missed call from Tommy.
He looks at it, then at Eddie, who's suddenly coming up the stairs.
"He called me. I didn't-my hands were full. Should I call him back?" He's torn between staring at his phone and staring at Eddie.
Eddie's expression looks cautious. Worried. "I think that's up to you, Buck."
But suddenly the alarm sounds, and Buck moves to turn the oven off so the mac n cheese doesn't burn the firehouse down.
And then he hears it.
LAFD helicopter malfunction. Pilot down.
And Buck just knows.

Tommy pushed the door open and helped Evan into his loft, holding the majority of his weight, a pharmacy bag hanging loosely at his other side.
"Easy, nice and slow." He kicked the door closed behind them, dropping the bag to the floor and stopping so Evan could catch his breath. The trip from the car up to the fourth floor had taken its toll on him, his breath coming out in short pants against Tommy's neck. "Couch, or bed?"
"Couch is fine." He huffed out, closing his eyes for a second before nodding, showing Tommy he was ready to start moving again.
"All your weight on me, okay?" They carried on the same way until they finally reached the couch, Tommy lowering Evan down slowly, making sure to keep his bad leg off the ground. Once he was sat down, he grabbed two of the cushions from the arm chair so that Evan could elevate his leg.
"Thank you." Evan sighed heavily, leaning his head back as he tried to get his breathing back under control, Tommy taking this time to head to the kitchen. Maddie had texted him before he picked Evan up from the hospital to let him know she had stocked his fridge and cupboards, so they should be good for a few days. He knew Evan was just about due another round of painkillers, so he grabbed an electrolyte drink from the fridge and then ran to the entryway, picking the bag up and depositing it on the kitchen side.
He chose for the time being to put aside the burn ointment, knowing he would need to redress Evan's bandages later on, but would wait until his pain had subsided some and he had at least had a nap. Taking out two painkillers, he headed back to Evan and knelt down next to his head, watching as he turned his head to the side, sending Tommy a small smile.
"Hi." He whispered, Tommy's heart fluttering.
"Hey. I have your painkillers and a drink for you." Placing a kiss on Evan's forehead, Tommy helped him sit up, leaving him to take the pills while he reached over the back of the couch for Evan's large throw blanket, draping it over his frame. "You should get some rest." Evan nodded and took one last swig of his drink before screwing the lid on and popping the bottle on the coffee table, staring up at Tommy who was standing at his head, arms hovering as if wanting to reach out and say something.
Buck knew he probably had somewhere to be, and was just making sure he didn't need anything else before he headed out for the night, but Buck was a pro at tending to his own injuries alone.
This, unfortunately, was not his first rodeo.
"I'm good Tommy, you can go if you need to."
"What? You want me to leave?" The frown on Tommy's face was adorable. Buck had grown to love kissing away his frown lines, using his mouth to literally turn his frown upside down.
"I mean, no, of course I don't want you to leave, but I'm home now. You don't have to hover, I'm more than capable of handling the rest on my own." Tommy crouched down near Buck's head and he chose now to pout, tilting his head up to try and catch Tommy's lips, but the man didn't move any closer, staying at arms length away from Buck which just would not do. "Babe seriously, I'm fine, but I won't be fine if you don't at least give me a kiss goodbye."
"I'm not giving you a kiss goodbye, Evan, because I am not going anywhere." Now it was Buck's turn to frown, his pout dropping off his face. "You really think I would just drop you off here and then head out for the night? You've just spent three days in the hospital, I'm not going anywhere unless you choose to kick me out your front door yourself."
"But- I'm fine?" His response came out as more of a question than a statement. Buck wasn't fine, he knew that. He had some pretty nasty burns, on his bad leg as well, and would probably be in a decent amount of pain for a while, but he was home now, and that was a start. He wasn't about to let Tommy waste away while he got better, Tommy didn't sign up for that. "You didn't sign up to be stuck looking after me, Tommy."
"And you didn't sign up for a crazy guy trapping you in a burning building, Evan"
"He wasn't crazy."
"Oh no, he was most definitely crazy." This got a laugh out of Evan, Tommy leaning forward to kiss his smile, before pulling back with a raised eyebrow. "Seriously Evan. I know we didn't sign up for any of this, but I am not going anywhere. We are on this recovery train together."
"So, me being injured on the job doesn't freak you out?"
"No more so than being injured in my own line of work does. It happens, but it doesn't mean you have to deal with it on your own." Oh, and if the heartbrokenly relieved look on Evan's face didn't shatter Tommy's heart. "Like I said, I am not going anywhere. Now, close your eyes, get some rest, and I will still be here when you wake up." Sniffling, Evan nodded, allowing himself to sink further into the couch, the soft sound of Tommy's breathing next to him lulling him to sleep.
@whollyjoly talking about parallels earlier inspired this so, enjoy!

Bucky, very seriously: You need to stop doing weird things to cope with the stress. Going outside might help. Buck: I went to the park today. Bucky: There you go! I hope you got something from that. Buck, opening his coat: This duck.

The nature of the Anti-Tommy fandom is that every so often (every other week) they accidentally recreate a 90s Gay Panic crime word for word.

Since the show has well established that a firefighter getting injured on the job pretty much guarantees a bunch of homecooked meals being dropped off by other firefighters & their families, consider this:
Tommy, newly a firefighter, estranged from his own family, a little lonelier than he'd like to admit, getting injured on the job and coming home from the hospital to a pile of well-wishes and home cooked meals. The first home cooked meals that someone else made for him in.. years? A decade? More? And sure, the food's in tupperware containers, and he knows it's not so much that the people who dropped it off care about him personally, and more that he's a firefighter and that's just what firefighters do when one of their own goes down...
But all the different containers on his counter, in his fridge, are all reminders of the various (he likes to imagine) loving households the food came from, and when he eats their contents and maybe closes his eyes he can almost feel like he's a part of something bigger than himself, something sort of nebulous that, if he tries, could feel like a family where people care about him enough to cook for him.
And after that, he doesn't mind getting injured so much. Maybe, even, in a probably not so healthy way, perhaps, even looks forward to it just a little bit.
(Just as long as they don't keep him in the hospital too long, because fuck hospital food.)

People on Twitter keep saying that they think Buck is going to get in a car accident or get shot, and that’s going to lead to a Buddie confession. I am holding on to Buddie Confession via NDE in a collapsed building.
We are clearly going through their greatest hits with the kid in the well and next week with the guy dangling off a ladder. And yeah, Shannon’s car accident or Eddie getting shot would fit but…
The bomb in the guy leg in 2x01 did prove that Buck and Eddie could work together, but the earthquake and collapsing building is when they became partners. I think you could combine these two things and we’d come full circle on their relationship.

Buck NDE while he's dropping Eddie off at the airport and when given the choice to join Buck in the ambulance or get on the plane, Eddie ultimately chooses to miss his flight and stay with Buck - which leads to a reverse of the hospital conversation where, after Buck is given the okay to leave, he sits Eddie down and tells him, "You're leaving because you think there's nothing here for you. That you're all alone, Edmundo. But you're not. Your life is here. Your home is here. Chris's is, too. And you need to remind him that, instead of throwing away everything that we built here."

Gimme self destructive Eddie,,, gimme Eddie who has had his entire world turned upside down, lost his son and lost the comfort of his workplace, and sees his best friend happy and busy in a relationship and just starts to back away,,, gimme Eddie who starts to extract himself from Buck’s life by taking longer to respond to messages and declining hang outs until they’re all but gone and reasons that he’s being a good friend but really it’s a form of self harm, isolating himself in a way he believes he deserves.
And right when he’s reached his lowest point, thinking that maybe he truly is the anchor that his mom claimed he was, dragging everyone down with him, gimme Buck showing up at his house, eyes wet, asking if he did something wrong because Eddie hasn’t hung out with him in weeks and please if he did something wrong, let him fix it. He’ll do anything, he doesn’t care what, because he tried to give Eddie space to work through Chris’ absence, tried to be a good friend, but having Chris move miles away is hard enough and he can’t handle losing both of them— it’ll kill him
Life without him isn’t a life at all

And I did not put it in writing before, because fandom made it unbearable here after that kiss,
But as @funnylovepuppis pointed out in the comments, just now in my latest post -
Taylor Kelly kissed Buck while Eddie was injured in the hospital then left him in the apartment.
Tommy Kinard kissed Buck while Eddie was injured at home, then left him in the apartment.
Notice their initials are identical too, oh, the TK and BT of it all...

wip wednesday 🫧
i'm slowly making progress on this fic, sigh, so have a little bit of eddie taking care of buck
“Hey, Buck.”  Buck opens his eyes, lolls his head to the side, and smiles. “Hi,” he says, soft and easy. He wiggles around, brings the arm not secured to his chest out from beneath the blankets, and makes grabby fingers at Eddie. “C’mere.”  Eddie goes. It’s Buck—Eddie always goes.  He moves forward till he’s beside the bed, right up in Buck’s space. He’s dirty, bruised and a little bloody where the nurses and doctors hadn’t wiped him clean; his left arm rests high on his chest, stabilized by several layers of gauze wrappings and a fitted sling. He’ll be in the sling for two weeks until he comes back for another assessment, but he won’t be cleared for light duty for at least a month and a half.    “Glad to see you’re awake,” he says, lacing his fingers around Buck’s wrist. Buck’s fingers are swollen and bruised and cut up, as if he tried to catch his fall. “You look like shit.”  Buck’s smile is loose and dangerously drowsy. “Feel it.” He twists his hand around so he can tangle his fingers with Eddie’s. “Broken collarbone, cracked ribs, and a badass case of whiplash will do that to you.”  “Could’ve been worse.”  Should’ve been worse, honestly. If Buck hadn’t turned and Eddie hadn’t caught the line quick enough to slow his descent, Buck probably would have had it a lot worse than he does now. Eddie’s grateful—he’ll take a tweaked shoulder over Buck’s battered, broken body any day of the fucking week.  “Yeah.” Buck blinks. His eyes are tired, dark blue and dull, but he’s still smiling. “Had a hell of a time in the ‘copter with Lucy. Miss working with her.”  “I bet you do.” Eddie reaches for the towel on the bedside table, dips it in the canteen of lukewarm water, and wrings the excess out. “Stay still so I can clean your face.”
