You Send Me Flying
Chapter Seven:
(Author’s notes: co-written with @nature-and-music, beta’d by @lady-jane-revisited. Based on The Dirt movie as I don’t yet own the book. Warnings: language and smut)
We headed down stairs and piled into her car, her driving and myself in the passenger seat with the other guys in the back. My fingers were itching to reach out for her, but I fought off the urge. No reason to give those idiots any more fuel. When we pulled into the place, I prepared myself for their antics, because where of all places does she take us? A sex shop.
They’re whooping and laughing in the back seat when they realize it and even she giggles a bit. “Alright, get it all out now. I expect you to act like adults when we get in there. Got it?” She was trying to be stern, but her unsuccessfully-stifled giggles weren’t helping. It was infectious and I cracked a smile as well.
“Good luck with that,” I commented as I got out of the car.
We went inside and she got the clerk to help us with the boots while she looked out for a few other things to pull the costumes together. It went surprisingly smoothly and we met her at the checkout where she pays for it all. I let the other guys go ahead of me, but I pulled her off to the side.
“Have you been paying for all this?”
“Yeah. I mean, Nikki put me in charge of costuming.”
I must have looked as furious as I felt, because she was suddenly standing up straighter and placed her hands on my cheeks with concern on her face. “Mick, what is it? What’s wrong?”
“You’ve been paying for everything out of your own pocket! I’m guessing without help?!”
“Wait…No. Mick, look at me. Nikki and I pooled some of our savings together. Tommy and Vince threw in some too and we opened a bank account for the band. We didn’t ask you, because you’re paying child support.”
My eyes shot to hers for a second before looking away again. I quietly replied, “They weren’t supposed to tell you about that.”
“Yeah, well they were supposed to tell you about the account. What are we going to do with our children, dad?”
Something stirred in me, hearing her call me that. It surprised me that I would react like that, but I pulled her flush against me, letting her feel how hard I was getting. “Screw the kids, say that again.”
“What? Dad?” She asks, sounding confused at first, but then her eyes lit up as the dots connected in her mind and she leaned her head a little to the side so her lips just grazed my ear. “Or would you prefer “Daddy?” She pulled back, looking up at me with innocent eyes and started to back away.
A low growl escaped me at the game she was playing and I managed to hook my fingers through her belt loops before she could turn around to escape. “Oh, no you don’t, Princess.” I tugged her back to me and she gasped when our hips met but there’s a loud honk from her car before I got the chance to kiss her. The trio of idiots were staring straight through the shop’s glass windows from outside at us.
“Get a room!” came their collective cheer.
“I’m gonna kill them.”
“No, you’re not.”
I grumbled under my breath and she shot me a look that told me it would be better for me if I didn’t. “Fine. I won’t.”
She put the bags in the trunk and we headed back to the apartment. The guys and I practiced some more while she locked herself in her unit again to tirelessly work on putting the costumes together. She came back up a little after lunch with her arms full of red and black pleather, one of the boot boxes and a small sewing kit. She handed the pleather material and boots to Nikki before shooing him off to go try it on.
***
Reader’s POV
Nikki took the pile from my arms so I could take the sewing kit. His face lit up, like a kid being given his first present on Christmas, and he ran off to his bedroom. I paced around the front room of the apartment waiting for the bassist to come out. I almost sighed in relief when he finally did with a serious look on his face.
“How does it fit?” I asked, sounding as nervous as I felt.
“Like a fuckin’ glove, man! This is awesome!” He enthused, now cracking a smile and turning for all to see the outfit, front and back before coming up to me and giving me a bear hug.
I laughed and returned the hug. “Are you sure it fits ok?
“Yes, stop worrying! I promise I love it!”
“Ok…if you’re sure. Do you want to keep it here, or do you want me to hold onto it?”
“It’s probably better if you hang on to the costumes. They might get ruined here.”
“Alright. Go change back.”
“Am I next, dude?” Tommy asked, practically bouncing on his feet.
“No. Yours is last because it’s the easiest.”
“Aww, man! Wait, shouldn’t Mick’s be the easiest? His is all black, dude!”
“It might be all black, but I had to sew a damn jacket! Sounds easy, right? It’s not.”
“Oh…damn, dude.”
I turned to the singer, “Vince you’re up.”
The man jumped up from his seat and happily grabbed the outfit, giving it a look-over before trying it on “Sweet!” He comes out looking just as excited as his fellow bassist, “This is so awesome! Check me out, man.”
“And it feels alright? It’s not too tight or too loose or anything?”
Vince was a little busy running his hands over the material at first, but then answered me nonetheless, “You kidding? It fits great. We’re gonna be so badass! The chicks are gonna love it!”
The rest of the gang could agree on that matter, giving each other high fives. I smiled and let him know that I could hold on to it all for them. I gulped as I gathered the next outfit for Mick, clearly seeing the rest of the guys lurking over him like a group of vultures. The guitarist kept his cool and said nothing, aside from a slight grunt as he got up from the couch. He gave me a quiet expression of thanks and headed over the bedroom once Vince returned with his clothing and placed it on the table. Some minutes passed while he was changing and though so far there were no complaints, l still wondered if he was alright, or if he needed any assistance. After seeing him in pain like that, I was getting a little worried.
“Hey I need a little help here,” Mick notified.
I made my way towards the room, ignoring Tommy’s repeated attempt to get under my skin by commenting not to take too long. I knocked on the door, “Mick, are you decent?”
“Yeah, come in, just shut the door.”
The man was nowhere to be found after I closed the door and looked around. However my heart started to slam against my ribcage when he stepped out of the bathroom wearing his full ensemble, a big smirk across his face. The black on black look was absolutely perfect on him. The pentagram headband, the studded boots with the intertwining chains, the belts across his chest, the pleather, and the collar. Jesus Christ. The pleather and collar were too much for me. Minus the make up, he was so close to looking the way he did in my dream, the sinister and demonic creature that put me over the makeup table and took me for a ride. I wanted him, no I wanted nothing more than to let him have me anywhere]: pressed against the wall, letting him roughly pull down my pants so that I could spread my legs and he could taste me. Then grab me by shoulders, hurl me onto the bed, and beg for him to fuck me until I couldn’t walk. Still, the costume would get ruined and of course we would never hear the end of it from the idiot patrol.
“This is really cool, you really outdid yourself with this,” he remarked, walking closer to me.
It finally hit me, “You didn’t really need any help did you?” I asked, closing in the gap by hooking my finger in the ring of his collar, biting my lip as I stared deeply into those sparkling blue eyes. That must have done something to him, his breathing becoming a little shaken, and his eyes widening when I whispered to him, “Daddy...”
His pupils were suddenly dilated, blackness engulfing the pale irises. The next thing I knew, Mick held me very close to his body, his hands grasping my back. I tried to keep my sighs quiet as he kissed my lips, however I couldn’t help but let a squeal slip out when he deliciously devoured my neck with his mouth. The heat from our bodies only increased when he pressed me against a wall, his kisses becoming hungrier by the second as my own hands tugged at his raven black locks.
“Mick, oh Mick...” I whispered.
However reality had reared its ugly head back into the frame when we heard banging from the other side, “Hey! Quit fucking around you two!” Tommy wailed. “Come on, that’s our room!”
Mick shouted back, “Fuck you, you fucking teenager! Open those legs, Princess. Daddy needs you-”
“No, no Mick. Please not now, it’s not a good time. Not with those three right outside the door.”
He was clearly frustrated but took his hands off of me, groaning ast he backed off. Still, I wanted him just as badly, so I thought of a different alternative as I clicked the door shut, lifted up my shirt, and pulled down my bra, “Mark me then, please Daddy.”
Without hesitation, Mick immediately held my breasts and pressed his lips to my skin. He was gentle at first, looking at me to see if I was enjoying the feeling of his mouth. I could feel the pulsations between my legs increasing as I whispered his name. I gasped when he took a nipple and suckled on it with ease, but I needed more from him. No sooner did I settle my hand onto the back of his head that he increased the speed of his sucking. His lips were wet, creating a very moistened sound that invaded my ears. He switched over to the other side and did the same, biting down a bit and moving his head back until my sensitive bud was released from his ivories. The sounds of Tommy’s knocking had completely drowned out as he pleasured me with his mouth and I moaned loudly. I couldn’t stop watching the way he pleased me, feeling my panties getting soaked, especially when I saw the fresh blemishes and crescent marks that were upon my chest. I was nearly there and so was he, yet he had to stop for both our sakes.
He gave each breast one gentle kiss and one little lick to my nipples, he leaned into my ear and growled, “You took that like a good girl, Princess. But Daddy doesn’t want to ruin all your hard work.”
I was in a trance as I responded back instinctively, “Thank you Daddy.”

Don’t Get Caught - A Cubicles sequel - CYO Adventure + Marauders Workplace AU
re-read Cubicles here
After your enchanting evening at James’ after-work soiree, you're feeling nervous to interact with your office crush, with whom you shared a special moment. They’ve made it clear that there’s a spark, but navigating an office romance can be tricky if you don’t want your co-workers to know the situation. With that in mind, you must find sneaky ways to fan the flames of your delicious dalliance. Will you steal another moment with your sweetheart or be found out?
—————————————
As always, Y/N=first name, Y/L/N=last name. When you get to the end, click one of the titles to get your chosen ending! You can also be added to the tag list for this series (I’ll probably write more sequels, as this is a personal favorite of mine and I got ideas!) This is my present to my Tumblr fam, hope you have a wonderful holiday and see ya in 2020! <3 Bri
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The weekend was fairly uneventful. You spent Lazy Saturday with Lily, as always, before the pair of you joined the other office girls for drinks at a hip rooftop bar. Sunday was spent in a lull of running errands and dreading Monday and all that it might bring. You hadn’t mentioned anything to Lily about your party rendezvous for fear of her reaction. You didn’t know how many people bore witness to what happened, but if you could keep it under wraps, you would feel much better. It was tough enough dealing with Rita and the stresses of the workplace, let alone trying to integrate a blossoming crush on one of your co-workers who you would have to see almost every day. You groaned, curled up in your favorite lounge chair in the reading nook you set up in your apartment.
You had flirty conversations with more than one person on Friday when you thought about it. You just happened to have sparked feelings with one of them. You weren’t the type to kiss and tell, so what did you have to be worried about anyway? Still, you couldn’t help blushing fondly over the memory of that night. It was cliche to call it “magical”, but that was exactly what it felt like. You sank deeper into the chair and tried to focus on the book you were reading, before spending the rest of the evening failing to eat and agonizing over what you would wear the next day. Once settled, you spread on a face mask and turned on your favorite show on Witchflix to distract yourself. You crashed halfway through the episode.
You’d woken up in the middle of the night, tossing and turning anxiously. You got up a little earlier than usual and decided to go pick up coffee for you, Lily, and Rita in an effort to feel productive. The Potion Truck was your favorite little cafe and food truck near the office. You swept in, rattled off the orders without a second thought, then went to wait for them a few feet away. You spotted Emmeline Vance standing nearby, scrolling through her phone with a bored expression. Her shiny black hair was slicked back into a low ponytail, draping over her shoulder. She was clad in a classic trench coat, and her tortoiseshell sunglasses were perched on her head; always the picture of style. You strode over, managing a small smile as you tapped her on the shoulder. She looked up.
“Hi Y/N, fancy seeing you here! Can’t believe it’s Monday again already. What a weekend! Sorry I didn’t come out for drinks on Saturday; I had rehearsal that ran way too late and I went straight home to sleep.” She chuckled, pocketing her phone. Emmeline happened to be a talented hip-hop dancer. You had gone to one of her recitals, and you’d been debating attending one of her classes just to see how much fun she was having. You nodded in commiseration, wishing you were back in bed. The barista called Emmeline’s name, so you were left to yourself for a moment. You wondered guiltily whether she’d seen you at the office party.
“That sounds very busy indeed. You have to let me know when your next show is. Emm, I just realized… I don’t remember seeing you at the party on Friday!” You mumbled, fishing for information. She made a bemused expression. Uh oh.
“Well, I saw you making your rounds, Miss Popular! Did you have too much of the spiked punch? I guess we didn’t get to chat, so I can see why you might’ve thought I wasn’t there. I was rather preoccupied myself if you catch my drift.” She gave you a saucy wink, making the color drain out of your face. Maybe she had caught you and a certain someone getting hot and heavy. You didn’t have time to ask because the barista finally called your name. You scurried up to grab the drinks, and as soon as you returned, Emmeline motioned for you to follow her to the office. Your stomach was turning as the two of you walked, with Emmeline chatting amiably about the details of the party, not revealing anything helpful. You made a mental note to shoot her a text message later to find out real gossip.
You passed Alastor at the desk with a soft greeting before arriving at the elevator. Emmeline worked on the floor below you in operations. Not only was she a talented dancer, but she was a clever controller as well. Before the elevator could close, you were joined by the Prewett twins and Peter Pettigrew. Emmeline tensed up slightly beside you, only to the degree that you would notice. You gave her a curious look, but she gave you a sidelong glance and shook her head.
“Morning ladies! Looking lovely as ever!” The twins chimed together. You smiled, and Emmeline gave a curt nod.
“Hi Y/N, hi Emmeline! The brothers and I were just talking about that new baking show everyone’s been raving about! I watched 4 episodes on Sunday afternoon, not even going to lie.” Peter bubbled with laughter as he addressed the two of you. He looked so adorable when he talked about his passions.
“You should audition, Pete! I bet you could show them a thing or two…” Emmeline grinned, winking at him. He flushed at her compliment. You nodded in encouragement, but you couldn’t help but feel a little caught off guard by the easygoing banter Emmeline and Peter displayed. She was a total Cool Girl™, and he was the office dormouse. Since when had they become so friendly? You turned your attention to Gideon and Fabian. They certainly stood out from the crowd, tall and well-built, with shocks of red hair. As you recalled, they happened to be rather athletic and were part of a club outside of work which some of the other office members frequented… though obviously not as devoutly, based on the brothers’ chiseled physiques. You engaged them in light conversation before they and Emmeline stepped off on their floor, leaving you alone with Peter.
“You looked really lovely on Friday, Y/N. I don’t think I got to tell you that.” He smiled softly, hands twisting in front of him. You blushed your attention fully on him. Peter rarely voiced his opinions, much less made such a confident declaration. It was a nice change of character if you were honest.
“You’re a sweetheart for saying so, Pete, thank you. I had a lot of fun! I think I had a little too much to drink by the end if you’ll forgive me. Feels like a dream…” You sighed, a grin slipping across your lips as you laughed. He laughed along with you, looking at you with appreciation. He seemed as though he were about to say something when the elevator opened. Noticing Rita standing in her office on the phone and looking angry, you were forced to bid the young man goodbye. You didn’t notice him staring after you as you walked swiftly to the time clock.
Lily was already at her desk, so you placed the coffee in front of her with a pat on the head. She swiveled around in her chair and grinned brightly up at you.
“How did you have time to go and get me coffee, Y/N? Couldn’t sleep?”
“How are you so early today, Lils?” You countered, to which she stuck out her tongue. She picked up the drink and sipped thoughtfully, a grateful expression melting her. You were glad you could return your best friend’s favor since she was always the one who went for early-morning drink runs. Rita didn’t come out of her office, so you wrapped up her coffee, sat down and began going through your emails and voicemail. You were completely caught off guard when James Potter came over and leaned on the partition between yours and Lily’s cubicles, grinning like a Chesire cat.
“Evans, where were you on Friday?! We missed you at the party! Y/N was gracious enough to help me decorate, the whiz that she is. Very good company.” He queried Lily, smoothly winking in your direction. You felt your body warming up, but not from your coffee. Lily, however, was not amused and threw a scathing glare at James. You were surprised that he would come and bother her over the party, considering what had transpired. However, it was well known around the office that he had a soft spot for your best friend, despite her obvious distaste. You had to credit the guy, he was nothing if not persistent.
“Amscray, Potter, I don’t have time for your attempts at witty banter this morning. Rita has been on the warpath all morning and your decorator just arrived. Thankfully with coffee, of course.” Lily spat at him, softening her tone when she mentioned you, although you noted her resentment in referencing you helping James. You clammed up, as did James, though you exchanged a look of concern. Your friendliness toward her rival was quite a sore spot.
“Well, there’s always the next one! Maybe Y/N can convince you to attend…” He commented, trying to maintain his bright demeanor despite being shot down by the other woman. James gave you a meaningful look before he turned on his heel and stalked off toward the marketing department. Lily groaned in frustration but didn’t look up as he walked away. She hadn’t said anything about Rita when you got there, although you’d seen your boss glowering at the air in her office. Why did Lily feel the need to bring it up to James? Was she annoyed that you chose to go to the party? You’d spent Saturday with her, and she hadn’t said anything about it at all. Had his appearance brought up those unpleasant feelings that she hadn’t addressed with you over the weekend? You sighed, not wanting to push her buttons any more than James already had, electing to focus on your current project. Rita had emailed you some of the details so you could get started, although she expected you to sit down and talk with her further.
Rita came barging out to your desk about an hour and a half before lunch and ushered you into her office. She kept you in there for the whole time and a little more before dismissing you. You felt exhausted after that conversation and would have skipped lunch entirely to debrief, except Remus Lupin was standing beside your desk looking sheepish. You glided over to him and an easy smile crossed his face. You were surprised to see him there. Usually, it was Sirius…
“You look like you’ve been run through Rita’s gauntlet, Y/N… if there’s anything I can do to help, please never hesitate to ask,” his voice was soft but tender, and you couldn’t help but beam up at him. He really was one of the most thoughtful men in the office, if not in general.
“That, however, can wait. You are cordially invited to join us for lunch at Molly’s in 10 minutes. I’ve been sent to fetch you, with your acceptance, of course.” He smirked, recognizing the confusion that was evident on your face.
“Sirius get bored of being the errand boy?” you quirked an eyebrow at him, to which he shrugged, “I really shouldn’t… this project Rita assigned to me is going to be a nightmare. But… in that case, I probably should come with you, since I’ll be holed up forever after this point.” You sighed dramatically. Remus snickered.
“I think Miss Skeeter can afford to lose you for an hour, don’t you?” He held out his arm, ever the gentleman. You took it shyly, slinging your coat and bag over your shoulder as you did. You couldn’t help but feel lucky to have made such… charming connections at work. Your last office had been full of old codgers who were bitter about their own lives and couldn’t be bothered with friendliness.
You and Remus made your way around the block, chatting pleasantly about the weekend. He mentioned that he’d gone to a book signing on Saturday, though he wished he’d had a companion to bring along. You couldn’t tell if that was his attempt at flirting, or whether he was just being friendly. You blushed regardless.
“I did run into Dorcas, though, so that was lovely. She’s very sweet when she’s outside of Marlene’s company.” Remus was only half-joking, judging by the grimace that passed over his face. Marlene McKinnon was a well-known troublemaker around the office, much like James and Sirius. She was a loud, attractive blonde who was confident and very popular with your male co-workers. If one wanted to have fun, Marlene was the best person to go out with any day of the week. However, she was also very reactive and had a vindictive streak.
Hell hath no fury like Marlene scorned, and Remus had made it very clear one evening when she drunkenly made a pass at him that he was under no circumstances an interested party. She didn’t take too kindly to that, and promptly turned tail and stole Sirius away for the rest of the night. Remus considered her a bad influence and was not shy in expressing this to his friend.
“Say, Y/N… I wanted to talk to you about Friday…” He said his voice barely above a whisper. You were startled, your head jerking sideways to see him blushing. You couldn’t imagine what Remus might’ve been thinking about since the weekend, but luckily you didn’t have to, because you arrived at the cafe. He seemed to realize this as you reached for the handle, and couldn’t hide his frown.
“I… can talk about it with you after work if you’d like?” You murmured shyly, unable to look at him. You could see the tension fall out of his shoulders, relief evident on his face. He nodded, managing a small smile and reaching past you to open the door. Your hand brushed his as you pulled yours back. The two of you stepped in, blushing brightly.
“There you two are, bloody hell! Thought you’d gotten lost on the way!” Sirius was the first to pipe up as soon as you spotted the table where your friends were seated. He seemed delighted, but that tempered when he saw the close proximity between you and Remus. When you came to the high top, Sirius shot up and pulled out your chair in a smooth flourish. Your whole body alighted in a moment of emotional combustion before you managed to compose yourself, giving him a million-watt smile in thanks. He gently pushed you close to the table, fingers brushing your shoulders expertly. You sucked on your bottom lip nervously as he returned to his seat, conveniently located beside you. If the other guys noticed this exchange, they pretended not to care. The waitress came over after spotting new arrivals, and you and Remus placed your orders before she flitted off.
“The waitress is pretty fit, am I right? Pete, you should give her your number…” James half-whispered to the table, waggling his eyebrows at the other man. It was Peter’s turn to blush, and he mumbled something about how James should do it if he was so interested. Sirius snickered at this moment but also gave you a sidelong glance to check that you weren’t annoyed by the conversation. At this point, you were used to the guys talking about other potential love interests in front of you. You would only intervene when the discussion veered into inappropriate or disrespectful topics. So, you just snorted and rolled your eyes, to which he grinned back with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“You’re so predictable, Jamie. She’s alright, but I’ve seen prettier women in the office, Merlin’s sake… or have you given up on your favorites already?” Sirius smirked, his tone jabbing at his best friend. James scowled, pouting angrily.
“The girls in the office are too busy with work to agree to anything beyond friends-with-benefits, in my experience,” James’ comment was laced with a bit of resentment, “but maybe I’ve just got rotten luck… Hey, Y/N, why don’t you have a boyfriend? I am honestly shocked thinking about it now… I don’t think you’re lacking suitors from the gossip I hear.” He turned his full attention to you, his petulant tone dissolving into suggestive curiosity. You couldn’t help narrowing your eyes at him then, but you composed yourself quickly. Despite Lily’s similar intimation that you were a popular object of affection among your office mates, you still weren’t convinced that their intentions were fully-formed. Remus coughed, looking away from James in distaste. Peter frowned, but he seemed to wonder along with James. Sirius seemed to be the only one who felt the urge to retort.
“You’re a nosy little blighter aren’t you, Potter? I feel like we’ve agreed that kind of talk about Y/N is off-limits. Her business is her own. She’s our friend, after all.” There was a thinly-veiled hostility to his tone which surprised even Remus. The waitress returned with the food before anything more could be said, and the rest of lunch was far quieter. James shut his mouth and looked away, eyes burning.
You were too uncomfortable to make any response one way or the other, though you didn’t really want the men to get into an argument over such trivial things. ‘Is it really trivial though? James is kind of right… why aren’t I dating anyone? I have a crush… why don’t I act on it? It seems to be reciprocated, from what I gather. Or was that just the effects of alcohol…’ You were so lost in thought that you barely ate. The waitress brought you a box to pack up your leftovers.
James was the first to leave after paying, without a word to anyone, although you caught an apologetic glance as he walked away. Peter popped up quickly and tagged along behind him, giving you a small goodbye wave. An audible sigh slipped past Remus’ lips as he stood up.
“While I agree with you, Sirius, I don’t know if that was the most effective way to deal with James’ query. But I understand… and I’ll go handle damage control since I already had the pleasure of Y/N’s company to myself. Thank you for joining us, by the way, Y/N. Sorry it didn’t go over as smoothly as we’d hoped.” His voice was firm but resigned. You shrugged and gave him a soft smile, knowing that there was nothing that could have been done about what occurred. You still had to speak with him later anyway, so he gave you a nod and followed the other two out the door, leaving you alone with Sirius, who was worrying at his cufflink. You turned to him, tilting your head at the door. He seemed to remember himself then and loped toward it alongside you. He took the box gently from your hand.
“Well, that was a lovely lunch, wasn’t it? I’m sure you’re itching for my next invitation now, aren’t you? You can plan for everything but this, I suppose…” Sirius tried to chuckle, but it sounded hollow. You reached out and gave his arm a gentle squeeze. He looked at you with a doleful expression, so you smiled back.
“I’m just happy I could get away from my desk and spend some time with all of you, really. Don’t worry about me. Your chivalry is noted, however…” Your tone was all velvet and sweetness, and this seemed to bring the warmth back to Sirius. You strolled in comfortable silence together, occasionally brushing shoulders before you finally arrived at the office building. He paused, looking up at it.
“Well, you’re always invited to lunch with us, regardless of our behavior. It makes me sad seeing you stuck at your desk all the time. I like to see you outside of your office persona. The party girl is just as cool as the businesswoman to me.” He purred as he handed back your box and opened the door. You could’ve sworn he winked as he mentioned partying; you couldn’t help blushing again.
It felt rather warm as you rode the elevator up together, and you had pointedly avoided the look Alastor gave as you two had passed by. You didn’t dare look over at Sirius for fear of him discovering your nervous demeanor, though you could feel his eyes on you. You let out the breath you didn’t know you were holding as the elevator reached your floor. You stepped out before Sirius stopped you, placing a hand on your arm. You started, turning back to him.
“You know I care about you, right? I mean, we all do, but I don’t want to have crossed a boundary defending you to James. And the whole thing with the party… I’m not sure what you think of me, but it’s important to me that those thoughts are positive. You’re… different. Special, you know?” The wholehearted vulnerability it took for Sirius to admit all of this, in the office potentially within earshot of other people, shook you to your core. It was a very rare man indeed who felt comfortable enough in his self-awareness and masculinity to admit all that. You didn’t quite understand why all this came to him now, but that didn’t matter.
“I do. And they are, trust me. Thanks for trying to wrangle James, but don’t worry about it for next time. I know him pretty well already to not take everything he says at face value, nor does he say anything to me that’s malicious. We’re all friends like you said. No need to dwell on it when we already have so many worries! But…” you paused to catch your breath and consider your final verdict, “I feel the same about you. You’re definitely a character, but a wonderful one!”
It was Sirius’ turn to blush, but you squeezed his hand on your arm before slipping out of his grasp and sauntering away to your desk, leaving him to stare in wonder after you. You didn’t look up until you were already seated, but he was already gone. Lily leaned back in her chair, giving you a look. You frowned, mouthing an apology before tucking into your desk. Rita had already sent another email making sure that you were on task. You’d made up your mind about talking to your love interest, but you would have to make time for that later...

Lovely Good Omens fandom! Many of you have asked for/mentioned having a text version of the Yelp reviews, which if I were a better person I would have remembered to include in the first place. Better late than never? So here’s a version below and I also threw this up on AO3 so there are options. For the record, I’m not at all trained in transcribing visual media, so if anyone wants to add to/edit/do whatever to this post, especially to make it more accessible, you have carte blanche to do so 👍
Also I typed this up in a hurry so, as always, apologies for any typos.

So I slipped into this place because I spotted my ex across the street and would have rather chugged a cocktail of bleach, lighter fluid, and a condensed solution of all my middle school years then talk to that asshole. Owner was on me the second I walked through the door and I thought he was gonna be one of those ‘Either buy something or get out’ types. Nah. I spilled the story, said I really wasn’t looking to purchase anything, and he LIT UP like nobody’s business. He gave me tea and promised I’d never run into my ex again. Which is a super sketchy promise on its own and also should have been hilarious coming from a guy a century behind in style.
...Kinda believed him though.

Pretty sure this guy wants a library, not a bookshop. I mean, he’s nice and all when you first come in, but trying to actually buy a book? Good fucking luck. He’s too busy to see you right now (for the record he’s super bad at pretending to be busy). Or claims that this book has already been put on reserve (then why wasn’t it in the reserve pile...?). Or the price suddenly jumped an obscene amount. Or he just straight up hems and haws until you get fed up and leave. I watched him pull a novel straight out of a woman’s hands once when she claimed that price was no object and she wouldn’t be leaving the store until she’d purchased it. You’d think she was trying to kidnap one of the guy’s kids!
So yeah. Feel like popping in to browse, maybe take pictures for your research, all while making quiet conversation with someone who quite frankly knows his stuff? This is the place for you. Want to actually buy something? Go elsewhere. Pretty sure Fell doesn’t even own a cash register. At least I’ve never seen one.
He wants a library and I’d honestly tell him as much if he didn’t scare me just a little bit...

I stayed here for three days once. Found a bathroom off the romance section and a chair hidden away in the back. Way comfier than my mattress at home. Mostly played iPhone games and kept real quiet at night. Experiment ended when I popped out for breakfast and didn’t make it back before a random 10:00am closing. Don’t think the owner ever realized what was up.

I really love this place. I’ve been coming here since I moved to London, about twelve years ago, and it’s one of the most soothing bookstores I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. Yeah, you hear talk of weird things going on at Fell’s, but really? We could all do with a bit more quirky in our lives. And Fell provides that in spades: Annual plants that never seem to wither, let alone die. The smell of incense mixing with cocoa. Strange books tucked horizontally into the shelves, feeling like they have a touch of magic to them. Nonsensical conversations taking place in dark corners (I’m talking candid chats about the apocalypse and whether angels could actually bless all the rains down in Africa. I swear Fell and his boyfriend are the religion Mythbusters or something.) I’m going to sound like a total nerd here for a moment, but it feels like some sort of liminal space. You know when you were a kid and you were just desperate to receive your Hogwarts letter? Or find your own wardrobe to Narnia? That’s what walking into Fell’s feels like. Like you’ve finally found that portal and can stay as long as you like, provided you don’t try to take anything back with you into the ‘real’ world. Hell, maybe that’s why he won’t let anyone buy his books.

I’m not gonna pretend I have anything to say about whether this is a good bookstore or not, but if you ever want knitting help you should definitely stop by. Mr. Fell knows an absurd amount about crafts for a guy who looks like my grandpa and he’s now replaced Youtube as my go-to for alleviating “Omg please fix this how the hell did I manage to reverse the pattern??” panic. For the record, I didn’t just wander up to a random bookseller one day and demand that he help me salvage the ruins of my first sweater. I’d taken a seat inside to wait out a storm, had my messy sleeve stuffed into my purse, and he’d offered the help. Bit of a bastard about things like gauge and color--not everyone wants to wear tartan, dude--but you get used to that. He means well. Said I should come back to show him the finished piece, which I did. Things just kind of spiraled from there. He’s an absolute treasure trove of knowledge once you get him talking and a muffin to boot. If he were twenty years younger and in any way straight I would have asked him out in a heartbeat. As it is I’m considering setting him up with Grandpa.

I’m not really a book person myself but I followed my wife in with our seventh-month old and was kinda embarrassed when he started making a fuss. Normally I’m full Badass Mom mode while in public--I’ve got a kid to feed, change, sooth, and you all can damn well deal with it--but this place was so quiet Liam seemed extra loud in comparison. I was about to take him back out when a man appeared out of nowhere. The owner I guess, based on how some of these other reviews describe him. Older gentleman with clothes out of some period piece. Anyway, he scoops Liam into his arms like he was born for it and started bouncing. Our fussy, temperamental, drama queen Liam settled in an instant and my wife got to browse to her heart’s content. I don’t know how he did it, but that man is an absolute angel. Full stars for that moment alone.

Run by this delightfully frumpy guy who sometimes hands out biscuits from a sewing tin like my gran used to. He asked me if I was looking for anything in particular and I told him my name was Jared, I was 19, but sadly I’d never learned how to read. I have NEVER seen a man more confused in my life. 10/10 would meme him again.

I’m setting the record straight here since there are a bunch of reviews claiming it’s just London folklore: there is a snake at A.Z. Fell’s. Must be an exotic pet he usually keeps upstairs because I’ve only ever seen it twice. Is it big? Yes. Scary? Fuck yes, but I’ve never seen it do anything more than give a warning hiss at this drunk who wandered in and started yelling. (Are snakes good guard dogs? This one is.) The other time he was just chilling on top of one of the shelves. Snoozing, I guess. I asked Mr. Fell if I could pet him and he said maybe after he woke up, but then I had to get to class and all.
Afraid of snakes? Steer clear. Otherwise I’d really recommend popping in and seeing if he’s around. Idk, maybe I’m just a snake fan but he looks super sweet and chill. Life is short. Boop the snake snoot.

I live down the street from A.Z. Fell’s and let me tell you, this place is spooky as fuck. All sorts of weird lights and noises coming from it. At all times of the day and night too. Either this bowtie wearing bookworm has one crazy sex life or the place is haunted. Jury’s out on which.

This shop smells. Not that old book smell either, oh no, but like something is molding. I took my little Johnny in here to try and get him interested in something other than those damned video games and I walk into what smells like a whole cloud of toxic mold! My boy has a weak constitution as it is and if he comes down with anything I will be pressing charges, you mark my words.

Has anyone read this guy’s opening hours? I included a photo above: “I open the shop on most days about 9:30AM perhaps 10:AM. While occasionally I have opened the shop as early as 8, I have been known not to open until 1.” Absolutely insane. This guy’s a madman and I love him. If anyone actually manages to get into this place please let me know because I need to shake Fell’s hand.

Small Town Girl Meets Big City Boy
A/N: A request from my AO3 where Spencer is dating the reader, a famous singer, without the team’s knowledge. Before they started dating, the reader had a scandal of sorts. (she was hacked by a douchey ex and her naked pics were released.) When the team finds out, they are more than a little surprised, but of course supportive. @coveofmemories @sexualemobitch @jamiemelyn @unstoppableangel8 @iammostdefinitelyonfire26 @hogwarts-konoha
----
How did they manage this?
Every single weekend, Spencer disguised himself as a friend of Y/N’s and spent the weekend there, going undercover once again when it came time to leave and go back to work. With a home base in DC, it was thankfully easy for the two of them to meet every weekend.
If someone had asked Spencer if he would’ve been dating a famous singer even a year ago he would’ve mocked whoever said it, but here he was, staring out the window with his sunglasses on checking to see how many paparazzi had camped outside her place this weekend.
Y/N Y/L/N was one of the world’s most famous singers - America’s sweetheart, insanely talented with a heart of gold and voice to match. How did they manage this was one question. Another was how the fuck had Dr. Spencer Reid of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit find himself dating the most sought after singer in the country - arguably the world.
Happenstance.
One night, three months earlier, he’d had a bad case and she’d been desperate for time away from “her people,” so they’d ended up at the same bar. Without knowing who she was, he’d approached her, said she looked sad and offered to buy her a drink. They went for an entire two hours talking about anything from their childhoods to their favorite movies before she’d said who she was and he’d recognized the name. The rest had been history. Small town girl meets big city boy.
As he looked out the window once again, noticing nearly 25 paparazzi, he turned to her and let the blinds float closed. “How do you deal with this?” He asked incredulously.
“I tell myself every morning that I get to sing music that I wrote and people enjoy it, and I try to forget about the fact that I have people outside my house who are basically waiting for me to do something stupid or scandalous so they can catch it on camera.” She huffed and puffed as she walked to the kitchen and took a sip of her coffee. Her sunglasses rested comfortable on top of her head. The flowing black skirt and graphic tee loosely hugging her frame. While he was off to the BAU, she was off to the studio as she was in the midst of recording a new album.
Neither one of them were in a hurry to expose their relationship. Though they were comfortable enough to let friends and family know, the likelihood of their relationship going public at that point was something neither of them wanted. For her, she didn’t want the paparazzi hounding him at every turn. The moment they were outed as a couple, he would be questioned left and right about what it was like to date “Y/N” - the superstar. For him, she had a scandal in her past that work might not approve of. After the combustion of a bad relationship, an ex had hacked her phone and dumped all of her naked pictures out onto the Internet. She’d been so nervous telling him about what happened, but all he cared about was tracking the leak back to her ex and putting him away for what he’d put her through - she’d been a victim; there was nothing wrong with naked pictures. Either way, the Bureau as a whole might have an issue with it, and Spencer didn’t want to deal with that just yet.
“I’m sorry,” he said, crossing the kitchen and taking a sip of his coffee. It was early in the morning and they had a few minutes before chaos would ensue. “Your voice has staying power. I know I’m biased, but I’m not the only one who says it, so one of these days, you’ll have the fame of your voice only without all this bullshit. They’ll move onto someone new soon.” He gave her a soft smile as he pulled her into his shoulder, luxuriating in the weight of her leaning against him.
A beaming smile flashed across her face. It was the kind that adorned the magazines she frequented. They only difference was that this smile was all for him. “I hope it’s sooner rather than later,” she laughed, pulling his mouth to hers for a lazy kiss before they had to leave. “You need to go.” She gave him another peck on the lips, and then another, before repeating that they both needed to leave. “I’m going out the front. They’ll come after me. That way you can sneak out the back, okay?”
Spencer nodded and walked toward the door, disguise ready to go just in case. “See you this weekend?”
“Absolutely,” she laughed. She was already exhausted with the paparazzi this week and it had barely begun. “Bye, babe.”
The second they left the house, he could here the calls of her name and the clicks of the camera from the front. He felt bad that she had to go through it alone, but as she’d said herself, it had been the life she’d chosen - some bad and awful came with the good and the great.
Five minutes later, the subway was in view and the sound of clicking cameras was so far away. He would handle being the boyfriend of a celebrity when the time came, because even though he hadn’t told her yet, he did love her, but he couldn’t imagine dealing with all of that himself. Work would be a welcome solace.
----
Nearly an hour later, he was walking into work after a quiet subway ride, during which time he read a book - twice. He’d said a few words to a person or two, but otherwise the silence had pervaded his mind - and it was great.
“Kid, really?” Morgan had his phone in his hand and a look of utter shock sprawled across his face.
Spencer looked up in confusion. “What really?” Morgan handed him the phone. A headline read, ‘Y/N dating FBI Agent - What We Know Right Now.’ Under the headline were a few sentences, identifying him, with his age and Bureau status, and a very grainy picture of him leaving her house the week prior. “Oh fuck.” He handed Morgan the phone and leaned against the wall with his head in his hands.
Morgan wasn’t confused anymore, instead turning congratulatory. “Woah! Pretty Boy is dating a world-famous singer! How long has that been going on?” One by one the dominos fell. The entire team was a fan of Y/N, so they all saw the headline fairly quickly and came running to him, asking if it was true.
“Yes, it’s true,” he said, when Garcia, Emily, JJ, Rossi and eventually Hotch came over and asked. “I’m seeing Y/N. Dammit, dammit, dammit.” His phone buzzed and he saw a message from her on the screen.
Baby, I’m so sorry. I don’t know how it happened.
He replied quickly.
I don’t know either. But we both knew this could happen. We’ll handle it.
She sent a happy face emoji back to him, saying how grateful she was to have someone that even if he couldn’t understand personally, he felt for her, and wouldn’t leave because of the lack of privacy. “Why didn’t you tell us?” Hotch asked.
“You as a team or the world? Because this,” he said, grabbing Morgan’s phone in exasperation, “is why!”
“Us,” Hotch said.
Spencer sighed. “Considering you are all fans of her, I’m sure you’re aware of her slightly checkered past. I wasn’t sure how it was going to reflect on the Bureau, so I decided to wait until I was hopelessly in love with her before telling everyone. That way, I probably wouldn’t be forced to choose.” It was faulty logic. But he didn’t care. His head was spinning right now. More coffee was necessary as was an omelet from downstairs.
Hotch clasped him on the shoulder. “You should’ve told us,” he said. “But if the Bureau has an issue, I’ll talk them through it. You love her, don’t you?”
Spencer nodded and started walking to his desk. The rest of the team followed closely behind, asking all kinds of questions; he’d never felt so popular, and honestly, he wasn’t sure how he felt about it. “Three months. We met at a bar. Yes, I’ve slept with her,” he said, pointing to Garcia, Morgan and JJ respectively. “No more questions. I need to think.”
As they walked away from his desk, he heard all of the incredulous whispers about how cool it was that Spencer was dating a celebrity. He knew what Y/N was, but he didn’t see her that way. To him, she was just the beautiful girl with a big voice from a small town outside of DC, with a loving family and two dogs she loved more than anything, even singing.
He sat at his desk combing through every memory he had from the past three months, trying to figure out how the media had figured them out, but he couldn’t think of anything. Eventually, after questions from people he didn’t even work with, and an asshole co-worker who’d dared degrade her to his face, Spencer was finally able to get to work, only taking his phone out a couple hours later to one text message.
Spence, I know this isn’t what you signed up for, so thank you. With my past relationships, it means more than you know.
He smiled softly at the phone. This weekend, he would tell her again - in person - but for now, this felt right.
It’s not what I signed up for, true. But...I kinda love you. So it’s worth it.
A reply came back within seconds.
You kinda love me? I kinda love you too! *kissy face* You have to tell me in person this weekend.
Spencer’s fingers crossed the virtual keyboard at the speed of light.
Only 77 hours to go.

Clichés - Jughead Jones Oneshot
Character: Jughead Jones Gender: Female. Info: The reader is a waitress at Pops.
“No.” “That’s outrageous. That’s a crime. You should protest.” “And lose my job?” “Why not? You serve enough of them.” “If I take one and eat it on the job, it gets taken out of my wages.” You told him as you began to slide out of the booth, turning around and putting your hands on the table. “Also, do you wanna stay until closing with me?” You asked
“Please…” “No.” “Pleaaasssseee Juggie.” “I’m gonna be here until midnight.” “I’ll sneak you a free milkshake.” You asked cheekily with a smile as he rolled his eyes, sighing and pulling out his laptop. “Thank you thank you thank you.” You told him, grabbing your pencil from out of your ponytail and going to take some more orders.
Waitressing part time in Pops not only looked good for your CV, but earned you extra cash. It meant you learnt value and weren’t pestering your parents for money. Plus, it’s not the worst job in the world.
Then the sheriff walked in, and locked his eyes on you. “Miss Y/L/N.” “Sheriff. What can I do for you?” You asked politely as you heard the taping of Jugs keyboard stop to listen. “I’m under the impression you served the Blossom twins on the 3rd of July.” “Yeah, I was working a double shift. They ordered a vanilla milkshake between them.” You explained simply. “None of your co-workers heard or saw anything suspicious did you?” He asked, as if doubtful. “I can ask but I’ve heard nothing. I overheard him talk about football and then their grandmother but that was the extent of it. I’m sorry I can’t be of further help.” You told him as he nodded. “Don’t worry, it’s not your fault.” “Can I get you anything while you’re here?” “A burger to take away wouldn’t go amiss.” “I’ll get it myself, give me 2 minutes.” You smiled and walked off, Jughead wondering how you could always be so polite, so graceful, considerate. He’s surprised you’ve never burst with some of the people you handle, but practise makes perfect he guessed.
~
You were blasting a song on the jukebox as you continued to wipe down the tables. Jug had been staring at his computer intently for a bit too long for now. “Three?” You voiced as he looked up to you in the empty shop. “You ever think about writing a fiction novel?” You asked him, taking a quick break to slump into the seat across from him. “I think real life is more interesting than fantasy’s about unrealistic creatures.” “Fiction can be naturalistic. Some of my favourite novels are fiction.” You voiced as he looked up with a smile. “Maybe in the future. For now, I’m writing one book at a time.” He smirked as you got up and swished around on the mopped floor, your skirt following you. “Would you ever write a character based on me?” You asked with a smile as Juggie leant his cheek on his fist, mock thinking. “Hard working girl, small town, desperate to escape and unpopular? Sorry Y/N/N, you’re just too much of a cliché.” He shrugged as you put your hand on your chest, pretending to be offended. “Me? A cliché? Excuse me but I am a unique beautiful butterfly that is one in a billion.” “That still means there are still seven of you.” He voiced as you walked past and pushed his shoulder.
“But if I put you in a book then I have to put me in as well. And no one likes me as a person, nevermind a character.” “Are you kidding me? 1. A lot of people like you as a person and 2. There are some characters that have worse qualities than you do and people still love them. You’d be adored.” You told him as you turned of the lights and brought down the exit of the counter. “You think?” “Well, I would adore you anyway.” You said, shrugging on your jacket. “Now c'mon Steven King, there’s a bed that’s calling my name.”
~
“Y/N, sleuthing tonight. You coming?” “Sorry Three. Working.” You said as he groaned, Ronnie looking over confused. “Three?” “There’s been Jughead One and Jughead Two. So he’s number Three.” You shrugged as you began to eat your chips. “That’s so Stranger Things. I love it.” “You never stop working.” Jug complained. “No, they just give me most of the shifts because the other waitresses can’t be bothered.” You shrugged. “How on earth do you have your life in order? School and homework is done, constantly working, family and a great social life. I can hardly balance school, football and music, nevermind all of that.” Archie voiced as you shrugged. “Guess I adapt.” You told him as Jug smile at you. “But, I’m free on Tuesday. Dinner?” You asked the friends as they mostly nodded. “Sounds good to me.”
~
Hey, you in? You left some notes today, Betty asked me to get them to you.
Work J. They important?
They’re on tomorrow’s paper. What time do you finish?
11 - Pep rally tonight. We’re open late.
I’ll come and give them to you.
It’s fine, don’t worry.
3 hours later, no response and there he was. “Jug-” “The papers are in my bag. C'mon, let’s get you home.” He said as you both began the quiet walk, the sounds of birds was all that could be heard. “Can you do me a favour?” “Anything.” “Tell me when you’re working late from now on. Or send me a photo of your rota.” You started laughing and turn to him. “Why on earth would you wanna know?” “Because we have a killer on the loose and I’m sorry if I don’t want my friend to get shot.”
“Three, I’m a big girl. I’ve walked home by myself plenty of times and not been hurt.” You told him as his shoulder brushed yours. “If anything happened to you… Not even if you were shot, I couldn’t live with myself.” He said quietly as you nudged his shoulder. “Hey. Thank you. This is really sweet.” You smiled as him as you continued talking. “How are things going with Betty?” “Honestly,” he said, looking over to you. “The moment passed.” “Seriously?” “Well, she kinda knew I had feelings for someone else.” “Who?” You asked excitedly. “None of your beeswax. Anyway, Archie only broke her heart a few weeks back, she needs more time to heal.” There were a few moments of silence before he blurted out: “Plus her mum’s a psycho.”
You burst out laughing, breaking the small silence as a few birds flew from trees. “Juggie! You can’t just say stuff like that about people.” “Why am I not aloud to state the truth?” He joked as you smiled. The rest of the walk home you talked about typical topics. School, Jason, the Sad Breakfast Club.
“No, because that would make me the douche with the leather gloves.” “You have to be! Because Archie’s the jock, Betty is the mute, Ronnie is the Princess and I’m definitely not that guy. So naturally, I’m the prude goody-two shoes. Therefore, you have to be the glove guy.” You said. “And Cheryl is the teacher we all run away from.” He said as you came up to your drive.
“You wanna come in? I’m pretty sure I could get my dad to drop you home.” “No, it’s fine.” “You sure?” You asked with concern as he smiled up at you fondly and put his hands in his pockets. “I’m sure. It’s almost midnight, they won’t wanna do that.” “Okay, but text me when you get in.” You told him sternly as he chuckled. “Will do.” “And Three,” you said, bucking up all the courage you could muster as your stomach dropped. “Thanks.” You said, quickly pecking his cheek before turning away so you didn’t have to look him in the eye. “Y-your welcome!” He shouted as you went in the house and let out a breath you hadn’t realised you’d been holding.
~
“What on earth are you on about?” “Okay, so you all know I have a lot of OTP’s,” Veronica started as Betty and Kevin looked between the three of you. “But I have made it my personal mission to make Y/N and Juggie canon.”
“Ummmmm, Ronnie, hate to burst your bubble but really? Me and Three?” “Oh come on, you like him, he likes you. Just get married and have cute kids already.” “Not yet. That’s the last thing we need on our hands right now.” Kevin interjected as you took a sip. “It’s not going to happen.” “Why are you stepping on my dreams like this?!” Ronnie asked as Archie and Jug walked in to Pops. “Hey, what you guys talking about?” “Jug, ask Y/N out.” “What?” “Jughead Jones the Third, so help me God-” “Just ignore her Three. She thinks we’d make a cute couple.” “You would.” “True.” Kevin stated. “We don’t have time to date anyway. I’ve got work, he’s got his novel and the Blue and Gold, we’ve both got school.” You said as Jug climbed over the other booth to come and slide in between you and Betty. “Really? Then why did you kiss his cheek the other day Y/N?” Ronnie asked as your heart dropped. “Yeah, turns out Jug, Archie can’t keep that big a secret when he blurts out that you came in at 12:30 at night. Plus, I did some sleuthing of my own and found out about your little agreement.” Ronnie presented as Betty’s eyes furrowed. “What little agreement?” “It’s nothing, Jug’s forcing me to send him my rota because he thinks I’ll be shot walking home from the late shift. And it wasn’t a secret. I thought it was sweet and gave him a kiss on the cheek. That doesn’t mean we’re now going to confess our undying love for each other.” You told her as an awkward silence set over the table. “Okay, just tell her that you like her.” Archie said as Jugheads eyes went wide but you didn’t notice. “Arch, I appreciate what you’re trying to do, but can’t a guy and a girl just be friends. C'mon, me and Jug? It’s too much of a cliché.” You told him and turned to Betty and Veronica. “How was Cheryl during Vixen’s practise?” “Omigod, don’t even get me started-” you let out a sigh, glad you could move on from the subject but felt something coming from Jug. Were you too defensive? I mean, he couldn’t possibly like you back? Or did he think you didn’t think of him that way?
We’ll talk later. You message him, watching him take his phone out and pose no reply but wink at you as if he understood. There was no smirk or smile but he knew you needed to talk. And that was your code. That was enough.
~
“What’s up?” He said, scrambling through the window ungracefully as he joined you on your bed. You were lying with your head at the bottom and feet near your pillows, something you often did when you were being philosophical.
“Mass confusion.” You voiced as he scoffed, lying on his side and resting his head on his hand as he looked down at you. “About what?” “Us.” You stated simply as he looked down at you.
“Three, tell me you just want to be friends and then we don’t need to have this conversation.” You said gently as he rolled to look at the ceiling. “I can’t Y/N/N.” his voice was no more than a whisper.
“So what are we then?” You asked with a thumping heart as he still wouldn’t meet your eyes; just looking at his face and the way it moved, his beanie sliding off as more messy hair managed to escape. “Whatever you want us to be.” He replied.
“But what if it’s not what you want?” You asked as he laughed. “I don’t get what I want.” “But-” “Your the only person who’s asked that in what feels like forever. I’m used to it Y/N/N.” He met your eyes and you rolled onto your stomach, bringing torso up on your elbows as you looked at him.
“What would Liam do?” You asked him as his eyes shot up. “What?” He asked shocked. “You printed out the blocking of the chapters and accidentally gave it to me with the notes Betty left for me. So in the book, if Eloise and Liam were in this situation,” you turned to look at him where he’d turned on his side again. “What would Liam do?” You asked as he took a moment to think about something. Then his lips were on yours, melting and moulding your mouth against his, which were strangely softer than you’d thought they’d be. It was slow, as if he was savouring it, as if he was trying to make the single kiss last before he pulled back. You still could feel his breath on your face as you opened your eyes.
“He’d do that.” He said, heavily breathing.
“I think Eloise would like that.”

“My question is why is Siora still putting up with you,” Asteria laughed.
“Don’t give me any ideas,” The Beati girl grumbled, a smile playing on her lips.
“Oh yes, don’t encourage her. She might try to hurt me with one of her toothpicks.”
Dema laughed, “Don’t insult a lady’s knives, it’s not wise.”
“What’s a lady?” The Gerum asked, feigning confusion.
“Dema is a lady,” Asteria kissed the girl on the cheek, laughing.
“Doesn’t seem very ladylike to me,” Siora snorted.
“Like you’re one to talk,” Dema shot back.

The Foreigner Experience
In January, the rock band Completely Unchained stormed the Reilly Arts Center stage in a crank-it-to-11 flurry of sparks, leaps and wild hair. Lots and lots of hair. Think manes of hair. Think late '70s, early '80s. Think David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen.
That’s what hundreds of people were thinking that night, as Completely Unchained not only played Van Halen’s hits but inhabited the style and swagger of the legendary California party band. The show was part of the WIND-FM Rocks the Reilly Series, now in its third season. The Ocala-based classic rock radio station brings tribute bands into the arts center, and the shows have proved very popular, often selling out.
The success of the series is part of a larger phenomenon: Venues are booking more tribute acts — musicians who not only play the music of popular, often-gone acts but play the parts. They dress like the originals, strut like the originals, bend guitar strings like the originals. While the burgeoning local arts scene is presenting many headliners and fresh new acts, there definitely is a diverse menu of tribute bands. Reilly Arts Center in Ocala: Let It Be - The Beatles, Cash Unchained — The Ultimate Johnny Cash Tribute, Remembering John Denver, Nightrain — Guns N’ Roses Tribute and Pig Floyd — The Music of Pink Floyd.
Orange Blossom Opry in Weirsdale: The Everly Brothers Experience, Hotel California, John Denver Tribute and the Neil Diamond Tribute. This list is not complete. Also, several acts listed are returning. 200 ticket prices. But fans still want to hear that music. 20 ticket to a show minutes away, they will opt for a date night or girls night out in their hometown. Tribute bands also are cheaper for venues. 12,000 or less. Ticket prices are lower, but tribute bands generally fill — at the very least — several hundred seats. With tribute bands, WIND-FM Rocks the Reilly Series has been very successful, noted Hunter, an on-air co-host and WIND-FM’s program director. "We’ve had quite a few sellouts. These things are hot," she said. "It makes for a great date night. From teens to baby boomers, people simply love the sounds, styles and attitudes of classic rock.
20 ticket to see what they missed all those years ago is quite reasonable, local sources contend. Manning said there definitely has been an increase in tribute bands in the last five years. When 7 Bridges started 12 years ago, Manning said there were a handful of Eagles tribute bands touring. "We turn down more shows than we accept," Manning said, noting 7 Bridges also caps its tour dates these days to allow for more family time and side projects. "The appetite is there," said Matt Wardell, CEO and artistic director of the Reilly. So is the inventory. Wardell said the Reilly gets a handful of calls each week from promoters trying to book their tribute bands into the venue. It’s tricky, Wardell noted, because the Reilly never intended to book tribute bands when it opened, opting to present Ocala Symphony Orchestra concerts, local productions and original touring acts.
But the popularity and supply of tribute bands — good tribute bands — is not to be dismissed. WIND-FM rents the Reilly to host their tribute shows, but the Reilly staff has started booking their own tribute concerts in between larger acts and symphony shows. Last weekend’s Denny Diamond concert, for example, was a Reilly-hosted show, whereas Let It Be will be part of the WIND-FM series. "Five to eight years ago, performing arts centers wouldn’t even think about a tribute band," Manning said. But, now, a performing arts center such as the Reilly or Circle Square is perfect for tribute bands.
Fans of the original bands are at an age where sitting down with a cocktail is far more appealing than going to a sweaty bar or a stadium that demands standing. "I saw the Queen (and) AC/DC show at Reilly. It was awesome. I also went to the John Denver one and the Elton John show. I love them," noted Ocala resident Laura Fontaine. JoAnn Grosso, adding she has been called up on stage to dance at tribute shows. Other locals are not quite on board with the tribute band proliferation. Wardell said the Reilly does not want to be tribute band-heavy. It strives to fill its schedule with diverse and original acts with headliner appeal. But the tribute band market is hard to ignore. He said the Reilly vets tribute acts carefully, examining internet clips and talking to references. To be sure, there are bad tribute bands out there. But the increase in tribute bands also means there is a larger number of good bands, Manning said. "The tribute bands have really stepped up their game in the last five or six years," he said. They know how to put on a good show — a production with lights and quality sound and interaction.
"Abbey Road" was a last creative gasp for the Beatles, and on Wednesday the tribute band RAIN turned it into a multi-media, sensory assault. The classic album came out in 1969. It felt like 50 years flashed by in the two-hours, with stunning visual and audio re-creations at the Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center. "Abbey Road" is a daring, sonic adventure that simmers with furious energy and mind-expanding rock and roll. I’ve seen many Beatles’ tribute bands and presentations, but nothing could match the quality of the music and the visual presentations in this show. RAIN has appeared on Broadway and also played the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. The Beatles were well on their way to breaking up in 1969. "Abbey Road" seemed like a farewell get-together in the recording studio that the album was named after.
"We wanted to make one last great album, and that’s how we made ‘Abbey Road,’" Paul McCartney has said. Steve Landes (John Lennon), Paul Curatolo (Paul McCartney), Alastar McNeil (George Harrison) and Aaron Chiazza (Ringo Starr) make up RAIN. They can’t match the Beatles but this group and its Broadway-show like presentation captures the music, emotion and atmosphere of the Beatles. The Beatles, who broke up in 1970, would release one more album - "Let It Be" - after "Abbey Road." That LP was mostly a rehash of old tapes and performances for the "Let It Be" movie. "Abbey Road," in contrast, is a fresh burst of musical adventure. In some ways, it’s a bittersweet album, sort of like a graduation.
The time has come to leave old friends and start over - but you want to have one last blast with your buddies. Landes gave props to John Lennon with a blistering cover of "Come Together" to start off Side 1 of the album. Landes, with shoulder-length hair and a wearing a chalk white suit, captured the 1969 Lennon look. And then there’s George - the quiet Beatle. George Harrison reached a musical climax on "Abbey Road." His ballad, "Something," on Side 1 (RAIN did not perform it) is a classic. Harrison kicked off Side 2 with another standard, "Here Comes the Sun." McNeil played an acoustic guitar on the song to perfection and was spot on with his vocals. After that number, the Beatles turned Side 2 of "Abbey Road" into one of the greatest rock performances in history. And that’s not an exaggeration.
I didn’t expect much from RAIN but they surprised me. The first hour of the program was a guided tour of Beatles history. It started with the appearance on the "Ed Sullivan Show" in 1964. The early songs were fun, as were the old television commercials shown on the giant stage screens behind the band. "Twist and Shout" was the highlight of the early years, with Landes wailing and rocking like a youthful John Lennon. As time passed, the Beatles evolved as human beings and musicians. A turning point in the show was the era of "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver." McNeil, as George Harrison, impressed with his lead guitar work and harmonies.
He did a remarkable job on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," starting the song slow and eventually building to a booming finish. RAIN displayed bright, colorful costumes for "Sgt. All in all, it was a concert to warm the hearts of aging Beatles fans. "It’s the music that matters and that’s why we’re all here today," said Trevor Edwards, who grew up near London and was visiting The Villages. Villager Stan McAlevey said the songs still have depth and meaning. "The Beatles were great storytellers," said McAlevey, who plays guitar and performs. He appreciates "Abbey Road" and what it means in Beatles’ history. "It’s one of the last times that they were happy together and they enjoyed making music," he said. "I love Side 2, when they ran all those songs together.
Led Zepplin tribute band Whole Lotta Led who will be headlining The Waterfront in Norwich. Ahead of Whole Lotta Led’s return to Norwich on Thursday, ADAM AIKEN caught up with Norfolk-born lead singer Lee Pryor. To send a link to this page you must be logged in. Lee Pryor is speaking from his home near Brighton. But he’s not like the legions of all the other 60-somethings enjoying life on the south cost. Pryor is about to hit the road again with his band, Whole Lotta Led, and head to Norfolk - the county where he was born. The Led Zeppelin tribute band have won plaudits for their live shows which, for most of us, are as near as we’ll ever get to seeing the real thing.
They are semi-regulars at the Waterfront, in Norwich, where they draw bigger audiences than many "original" acts, and they are back there this week. Check out the local listings and there are plenty of tribute acts on the circuit - some of them very impressive. But Whole Lotta Led are different from most of their peers. There’s no dressing up, there are no wigs - it’s all about the music. "Some of the other bands out there are really good, but we’re musicians, not actors," says Pryor. "If you’re not trained in acting, you can’t pull it off. Pryor joined Whole Lotta Led - who have been around for nearly a quarter of a century - in 2012, and is regularly struck by the reactions of the audience. And for those who aren’t new to the music, the gigs often take them back in time.
"It’s all about people’s memories," he says. "Music often brings things back in a way that a photograph doesn’t. "We like mixing up the set," says 67-year-old Pryor. Pryor was born in Great Yarmouth before his family moved south when he was a few years old. But he regularly returned for holidays and to help his grandmother in her guesthouse. And while Aerosmith have their own Rock ’n’ Roller Coasters in California and Paris, Pryor has his own favourite fairground attraction a little closer to home. "The Snails are still there!
" he says. "When I went back I had to have a go on them, and on the Tubs! And, in a way, that seems fitting for the congenial and down-to-earth Pryor. He and his fellow bandmates, who have earned the backing of Zep guitarist Jimmy Page, have the talent to be doing their own thing but they are happy paying homage to their heroes. And they are definitely worth checking out. Whether you remember Zeppelin from the old days or whether you just want to see what the fuss was all about, you’re not going to get a find a better tribute than Whole Lotta Led deliver.
To say that Talent Factory owners Larry and Cindy Sloan are bringing in some great shows would be an understatement. Tribute performances have been huge for them in the past year or so, and the Sloans didn’t even have to go after their March 15 tribute show. The leader of Made in America, a Toby Keith tribute band, called the Sloans. "Toby has a lot of his fan base (in Iowa)," Wenzel said. If you love country music, love America and/or love Toby Keith, the Friday, March 15, show is one you won’t want to miss. Those attending are going to see the same size band that Keith actually tours with, Wenzel said.
"We have all 12 pieces … fiddle, horns … and the hits; we have two hours-plus of nonstop Toby Keith top 100 hits," he said. With lights and props, they will drape the stage in patriotism. "You’re going to feel a lot more patriotic going out than you feel going in … We make you feel proud of your country before the night’s over," he said. Keith songs Wenzel enjoys performing most include "You Ain’t Much Fun," "Should’ve Been a Cowboy," "I Love This Bar" and "How Do You Like Me Now? And he really enjoys the end of each show — where they unleash the patriotism.
"We go into ‘American Soldier’ and ‘Courtesy Of The Red, White and Blue (The Angry American).’ That’s the crescendo," he said. Keith, an America country singer, songwriter and record producer, has definitely made a name for himself when it comes to big and patriotic country songs. But knowing him personally, Wenzel said the media has not always captured who Keith really is. "He’s a man’s man. He loves hunting, fishing, having a beer and talking about sports. And he has a deep love of America … I think he’s a bit misconstrued in the media … He’s portrayed as a far-right conservative when he’s really a moderate independent. When you talk to him, you figure that out," Wenzel said. Wenzel thinks it’s incumbent on him, as the tribute artist, to spread the word about who Keith is and to bring the best "Almost Toby" performances to his audiences.
"Toby Keith just loves his country and the military," he said. "That comes from fact that his father served and lost an eye fighting for the United States in the Army. A lot of his songs that are patriotic are stories about his dad. Wenzel actually opened for Keith’s band — Easy Money Band — when he was in another tribute band. "I’m probably the only person to open for Toby Keith and play him in a band," Wenzel said. But Wenzel, 46, notes that he doesn’t profess to be a Keith clone in life. "That impersonation (of Keith) begins and ends on stage … I bring it all to the stage," Wenzel said. A native of Chicago, Wenzel has been playing music for nearly 30 years.
He switched to country music around 2010, "when I started my band Suburban Cowboys." That band went on to win a couple of Chicago country music awards for best country entertainer. "It was in that band (Suburban Cowboys) that I opened for Toby Keith at (Keith’s) bar in Rosemont, Ill.," he said. Wenzel’s current band, Made in America, has been performing for about two years. "We’re all seasoned veterans," Wenzel said. Great Ides of March is a famous band out of Chicago that wrote hit song "Vehicle" back in the 1970s. The horn section will be in the Made in America band when it comes to Nevada.
Along with a lot of the band’s regulars, Wenzel said he’s pleased to announce that two Iowa musicians, horn players, Dave Rezek and Paul Bilson, both of Des Moines, will join the band at the Talent Factory. When possible, "we like to add local musicians," he noted. The closest Made in America has come to Iowa before is a performance in Savannah, Ill. So, for Iowa’s Toby Keith fans, this show is a unique opportunity. 25 (for front and center rows, while they last). Doors will open at 7 p.m.; the show itself will start at 8 p.m. "We hope that country fans will give us a spin and enjoy the night with us," Wenzel said.
"This show is so much fun. He (Keith) basically sings about three different things — beer, women and the American flag. What’s not to like about those three subject lines? "If you went to a Toby Keith show, you would leave there smiling. For Wenzel and the guys in the band, "we’re all patriotic dudes. ’s a labor of love. One last reminder from Wenzel, for those who attend, "Make sure you bring your red Solo cups. As a side note, those who enjoy good shows should come back the next night, Saturday, March 16, for Beatles tribute band, Rocky Raccoon. 10 for general seating.
Brett Young learned from ACM Awards host Reba McEntire that he's 2018 New Male Vocalist of the Year ahead of the official awards show. Caught off guard by the news — and call from the icon — he could only spout his gratitude. There is surely no better way to start the day, and as McEntire offered one more congratulations and then hung up, Young sat on the sofa in disbelief. Staring at his phone, a big smile soon takes over his face. This is his first-ever ACM Award, but it isn't his first accolade — the singer has been met with massive success since releasing his self-titled debut album last year. His first single, "Sleep Without You," hit No. 1 and went on to be certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. He was named a member of the inaugural class of Taste of Country RISERS i 2017, and his follow-up single, "In Case You Didn't Know," also rose to the top of the charts (and is now certified 3x platinum).
Grateful Dead lead guitarist Jerry Garcia may have died in 1995, but his group’s music lives on. That’s in part because of tribute bands like DeadBeat, which will be at 9 Wallis this Friday.
The lineup features Beverly natives Gary Barth and Jason Cohen. The Grateful Dead have always enjoyed an ardent group of followers, called Deadheads, and DeadBeat was formed in 2005 to satisfy the members’ hunger for live performances of songs by the original band. "The passion for it is extraordinary," said Barth, who plays rhythm guitar and sings with DeadBeat, which plays throughout Greater Boston and southern New Hampshire. Those faces can range in age from 18 to 80, proving that the Grateful Dead are drawing new fans today, Barth said.
When DeadBeat recently played at The Stone Church in Newmarket, New Hampshire, he saw fans who weren’t even born when Garcia was still alive, but were singing every word. "To me, ultimately, it’s about the music," Barth said. "From a purely musical standpoint, they’re so incredibly diverse. They epitomize what we call Americana, but depending on the time period, it could have been folk, jazz or rock ’n’ roll. The Grateful Dead were also renowned for jamming, rather than playing slavish imitations of their own recordings, and rarely repeated a song if they played at the same venue on successive nights. "For me, I always say it’s that curiosity about what’s around the next corner, even within this song — where is this jam going?
The shared attentiveness of fans generated a spirit that made Grateful Dead concerts special events, so that Deadheads would follow them from city to city on a tour. Barth said that he went to 10 concerts during the original band’s career, which began in 1965, and said they featured none of the theatrical gimmicks that some rock bands rely on to hold an audience’s attention. "There was no banter, never an interaction with the crowd," Barth said. "In fact, there was an incredible interaction, but it was unspoken, nonverbal. The band didn’t record a lot during their long career, producing 13 studio albums, because their focus was on live performances, where they often introduced songs years before recording them. "In the ’60s, it was more blues-based, but more psychedelic," Barth said. "Then in 1970, ‘American Beauty’ and ‘Working Man’s Dead’ were very folky, Americana.
ROCHESTER - The Rochester Opera House will present The Spirit of Johnny Cash at the Rochester theater on Friday, March 8 at 8 p.m. 27, are available now to the general public. The Opera House box office is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone, and in person at the box office, located in Rochester City Hall. This is what country music is all about - the music of Johnny Cash. Harold Ford is incredible as Johnny Cash. He sings and looks exactly like the man in black - and it comes naturally. Accompanied by the Red Hot Cash Band, an extraordinarily talented team of musicians, The Spirit of Johnny Cash recreates the music that made Johnny Cash country music’s most iconic performer.

Goner//Josh Dun Fanfiction
Note: Since it’s pretty much based on the idea that the book 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher presented. It contains suicide, and some other pretty dark stuff. Each chapter will have its own warnings, but in the mean time be careful while reading—I don’t want to cause any harm.
Xx
He was a nobody last month—when the teachers would call his name in attendance, everyone would look around. Confused expressions adorning their features, he seemed like a myth. Like a legend.
“I heard that Josh kid killed a dude once.”
“Really? Because I heard he was raised by wolves” Stupid things created by rather stupid people—usually. The more insane and unrealistic stories seemed like a comic relief compared to the other rumors spread about the boy. You heard all about how he allegedly tried drowning his younger sister, how he allegedly got kicked out of his old school because he was dealing drugs, how he allegedly slit his wrists all day everyday.
You chose to ignore them—you rather liked Josh. Well when you saw him anyway. Columbus high wasn’t particularly small—there were a minimum of 3 classes each for all the core subjects; far more for the extracurricular. You were lucky though; you got to share 3 of 4 classes with this mysterious new kid. The one who kept his head down and only spoke when spoken to. You wish you could’ve figured out why.
Xx
You internally groaned as your teacher began talking—not about science, not about chemicals. Rather, he was discussing suicide. The topic on everybody’s mind since the “nobody” became the school celebrity. It made you sick to see everyone fake compassion, suddenly turn into heroes; or what they believed was a hero.
“I know this is a fresh wound for everyone, considering it has only been 2 weeks. But all the staff at Columbus High would like to reach out for any student needing help. Mental health is just as important as physical health! If your brain is off balance, then your whole body will follow.” You stared outside, choosing to ignore the latest soapbox speech. The sky was gray, except it wasn’t raining—nor did the clouds look like they wanted to pour. Rather it was just a dark undertone, blocking away the sunlight. Almost like the universe was foreshadowing the boy’s fate. “Now if you know anyone who is going through tough times; please remember that getting them help is much more important than keeping a friendship.” You cast your gaze over to the teacher, who was putting his paper on the desk. Figures, the school gave them a premade speech to rattle off. “Do any of you have any questions?” You took a deep breath in, waiting for the vultures to dive in for the kill.
“This kid, is he dead?” One of the basketball players asked from the back of the room; his expression was neutral but you could’ve sworn you heard his voice waver just a little.
“I am not in a position to discuss that with you Mr. Joseph. That is something you will have to talk to the family about. Are there any other questions?” Your gaze went to the basketball player, who was gnawing on his lip—deep in thought. Probably contemplating another question.
“If he does die, will there be an investigation and charges? Will it be treated like murder or just his bad decision making?” The people around him snickered at the end of his sentence, finding a cruel amusement in the insult. You found it sickening—for the fact that he probably tried killing himself for this exact reason.
“That is up to the family to decide.” The teacher stated bluntly, turning his attention to the latest unit. Trying to avoid being put in any more awkward situations for one morning. You pulled open your notebook, clicking your pen. Trying to ignore the heavy feeling settled in your chest—you barely knew this kid, so why is all the suicide talk getting to you?
Xx
“Hey! Y/L/N!” You heard someone call as you walked toward the lunchroom—your morning classes droned on, filled with chatter about Josh. Why people think he did it, what they think happened, even as far as how. It disgusted you to the core. You turned to see that basketball player, Joseph you think his name was walking up beside you. ‘‘You didn‘t look so good in class today, I was coming to see if you were alright” You were taken back by the question—despite its seemingly innocent motive.
“I’m fine, thank you Joseph.” You whispered, turning to leave toward the cafeteria once again.
“It’s Tyler, and you just didn’t seem so good when they brought up those rough topics. I just thought I’d be a support. So if you ever need anything. Call me.” He extended his hand out to yours—keeping up with you as you walked. You rolled your eyes before taking the paper and shoving it haphazardly into your pocket. “Before you think anything; I’m not playing any cheesy hookup lines on you. I actually care and don’t want this to happen to someone else.” He whispered to you, before changing paths and meeting up with the rest of the basketball team.
You couldn’t quite wrap your mind around it, the basketball team captain was suddenly being nice to you? Something was definitely up.
Xx
“Hi honey, how was your day?” Your mom asked, walking up to the door to greet you. Eyes shimmering with curiosity.
“It was fine, pretty boring though. Just notes all class.” You shrugged, taking your shoes off and making your way to your room. Your mom following you most of the way, asking you a variety of questions about your day. What were the notes on, did you learn anything interesting? Did you make any new friends? Needless to say, you were kind of resentful at what this Josh kid had caused—suddenly nobody left you alone. It was a constant stream of “how are you? Are you okay? How was your day?” and other fake interest. You liked it better when you could sit on the outside of the world and watch it as it passed, popping in on your own accord.
“Y/N, your bag is hanging wide open!” Your mom commented, as soon as you reached your door. You scrunched your nose up—you definitely remember zipping it before you made your way out of school. Except when you slung it off your back—the zipper was wide open. What the hell?
“I must’ve forgot to zip it! I’m going to make sure everything is here and do my homework. Okay mom, love you.” You quickly slipped into your room, shutting the door behind you before emptying the contents of your backpack on the bed.
Books, check. Pencil case, check. Notebook, check. Weird bag thing, check? You arched and eyebrow as you opened the zip lock bag. It seemed to have a brown paper bag inside of it. Sitting cross-legged on your bed you slowly pulled out the bag. Praying it didn’t have an illegal substance somewhere within it. You grabbed one end of the brown bag, letting out a shocked scream when it unrolled itself and something fell to you lap. Provoking the curiosity of your mother.
“I’m fine mom! No need to come in, just saw a spider that’s all.” You yelled out to her, taking a breath of relief when you saw it was only a usb drive that fell to your lap—not drugs. You inspected the drive, it was seemingly normal. Had a few scratches along it, but what doesn’t? Putting it to the side, you looked closer at the brown bag, opening it to find a few sheets of paper crammed inside.
For Your Eyes ONLY. Strange enough. You opened the paper, heart clenching when you saw a boyish handwriting sprawled across the page.
It’s simple. Watch the videos, pack up the usb and instructions, and move along—maybe even change a bit. That could never hurt right?
Besides that, keep this within the group—and keep it going. You wouldn’t want to know what would happen if it stopped, but what threat am I? I’m either dead or comatose.
JD
No. It couldn’t be. Why is this coming to you? Maybe it was a mistake? You flopped over the side of your bed, reaching underneath to pull your laptop up onto your bed. Tapping nervously you watched as the technology in front of you took forever to open. And forever to recognize the USB.
13 files. Each were labeled with a number—nothing else. Taking a deep breath you clicked the first file—watching as the media player popped up, starting a video of a dark room. The only sounds were that of a furnace and someone’s breathing. Shivers found their way down your spine when you were met with a somewhat familiar face—he looked calm. A small smirk playing at his lips.
“I’m not going to repeat myself with instructions—if the person before you neglected to add them. Listen, find them and figure out what you need to do.” He let out a emotionless laugh. “Other than that, hey. Glad you could make it to the party.” You felt your chest tighten as your eyes burned with tears. You barely knew him, but seeing his face. No emotion, nothing on it made your heart shatter.
“To set the record straight here, no I didn’t leave any notes, no my family doesn’t know why and no all your rumors are probably wrong.” You paused the video, resting your elbows on your knees and holding your head up with your hands. Why was this sent to you?? “I know what you’re wondering, “What is this and why am I included”, in dear time friend. In due time you’ll know. Just listen for a bit—like I do. Well used to.” You stared at the screen, in complete shock. Jumping slightly when a knock came on your door.
“Honey, are you coming down for supper tonight?” Your mom asked—probably wondering how many plates to prepare.
“No, I’m really busy and not too hungry.” You called back, reaching in your bag for a pair of headphones. Plugging them in before warily pressing play again.
“If you’re ready for a ride, lets go. Congrats Mr. Cos, you’re the lucky first contestant.”

Can you do a David Webster x Reader!Air Force Mechanic? I was thinking that David and the reader met each other when David noticed that the reader was reading Shakespeare. They then become very close through letters and eventually meeting up in Europe and falling in love. Thanks! - anon
---
You were on a rare break, you’re commanding officer had been abruptly called away to a meeting so you had an hour off until lunch time. Around the camp you could see various companies training for battle, and you could tell which CO was the hardest on his men just from the sheer volume of his yelling. You swore you could see the vein in his neck from across the field as he screamed at his men who were stood perfectly at attention.
It had been a week since you arrived and you still hadn’t gotten used to the Georgian heat, you had started training to be an air force mechanic further up North where the temperature was more preferable but you’re whole squad had been moved to camp Toccoa and there was nothing you could do about it. You had been told to read over the manuals they had given you at the start of training but you had already read it cover to cover five times, so you were sat out in the sun enjoying a copy of one of your favourite Shakespeare plays, Much Ado About Nothing.
During times like this you needed a little comedy in your life, and though Shakespeare may be long gone he certainly had a way with words like no other. You wished you had packed more to bring with you when you left home, you had an entire collection next to your bed at home and you could still remember all your favourite passages. At school you had to study his plays in your English class and you had fallen in love, doing your best to get your hands on as many of his plays as you could, it was just a shame that no one else seemed to like his work. They always found it boring, or too hard to understand, but the way the words flowed made perfect sense to you.
You had been sat close to the tent they served food in, and you could smell lunch almost cooked. It wasn’t the most appealing of aromas but you were starving and anything would do though you usually waited for most of the men to take their place inside first so you didn’t have to deal with them queuing up with you.
Soldiers began to trickle inside as they were let go for lunch but you paid them no mind. In the past week most of them had gotten used to having you around camp and now mostly left you alone, you only looked up when a shadow blocked the light on your page. “Can I help you?” you asked, squinting up at the figure.
“Is that Shakespeare?” the man asked, an excited lilt in his voice.
You nodded slowly, “Yeah. Why?”
“I love Shakespeare,” he shifted and you could now see his face. He was fairly tall, had a strong jaw line and bright blue eyes.
You smiled, “Yeah, me too.”
“You getting lunch?” he asked, when you nodded he offered his hand, you took it and he hoisted you up. “So, what’s your name?”
“Y/N Y/L/N. You?”
“David Webster,” he replied with an easy smile. You joined the back of the line and quickly grabbed the food that was meant to be a sandwich and took a place together on a bench near the back of the tent that was empty. “What do you do around here?”
“Air force mechanic. What about you?”
“I’m a private in Easy Company.”
You chewed on your sandwich, “That the one always running up the hill.”
He let out a long suffering sigh and nodded. You chuckled, “Sucks to be you.”
Another soldier walked past, you recognised him as one from a different company who didn’t approve of you being around camp. “Women should be at home, you know, or in the kitchen. Why don’t you go make me some seconds,” he taunted.
“Go away, asshole,” you shoved him away, he stumbled but laughed to himself as he walked away to join his friends. You glared at his retreating form, used to his remarks by now, and bit angrily at your sandwich.
Webster had his eyebrows raised in shock at the encounter, “I can see he’s not in your good books.”
“No, and if he were I would burn my library,” you retorted without thinking, a smirk coming to your face when you realised what you had said. It took it a second for it to click in Webster's mind but when he did he laughed at the quote. “You like Shakespeare then, Web? What’d you do before you came here?”
“English Literature at Harvard.” You let out a low whistle and he blushed slightly, “You?”
“A guy in my town went to university to take English and he sort of tutors me. I didn’t have enough money to go myself,” you shrugged. Webster felt bad, guilty that he had more than enough money for these things but you didn't seem to be bother by it so he pushed the thoughts aside. “So, what are your favourite Shakespeare plays?”
---
David,
They have us doing full checks on the C-47’s at this camp, I think the invasion may happen soon, but I’m sure you knew that already. Us mechanics have been split into two groups, who goes with the pilot and who stays to cross over at a later date. I’m going in with the pilot so I might see you over there, wherever it is they decide to drop us. Good luck and stay safe, remember your training and you’ll be fine.

We got the briefing. The jump is gonna happen in the next week and I’m terrified. Did I ever tell you I had the opportunity to be an officer, one of the ones behind a desk and safe from all this. I turned it down because I wanted the experience of being a foot soldier, for my book, which I now regret. What if I don’t make it out of the plane? What if I land in the middle of an enemy camp? There’s so many things that could go wrong I feel I might explode if I think about it. You better stay safe as well.
David
---
David,
Don’t be an idiot. You’ll get dropped in the DZ with the rest of your company who’ll have your back. Everything will work out okay. Screw your courage to the sticking place, god dammit. I trust that you’ll make it through. Believe me when I say you’ll be okay. Besides, I’ll be over there to keep an eye out for you.
Y/N
---
Operation Market Garden was a failure and everyone knew it and it hadn't even begun yet. You had been sent in to gather up and fix some army trucks that had been left behind in a retreat, the enemy had since moved out so it was only a quick in an out mission with the other mechanics in your squad. You had internally complained that they had you getting trucks not planes but this is what you had been trained to do, so do it you did.
You managed to salvage the trucks and bring them back to HQ where you could really work on the engine. You were deep in the engine when you heard the gravel crunch behind you, you didn’t expect to hear the voice you did, “Y/N?”
You spun around and your face lit up as you saw your friend, “Web! What are you doing here?”
“Passing through, gonna take a town later today they say. Just stocking up on some ammo.”
“Well good luck,” you couldn’t keep the smile off your face after not seeing your closest friend for so long.
Someone called for him to hurry up and he gave you an apologetic smile and you waved him off and let him go, as he walked back to join his company you couldn't help but notice how he had filled out a bit more and the scruffy look he was now sporting only added to his looks. For the first time since you had met you actually felt attracted to him, wanted him for something more than friendship.
You quickly stopped your thought track and buried yourself back into working on the engine. You couldn’t think of him like that, especially in the middle of a war.
---
“Are you Y/N Y/L/N?” a young private came up to you the next day.
“Yeah, why?” you asked with a small frown.
“You’ve been requested in the med bay. By a private David Webster.”
Your eyes widened, “Is he okay?”
The private nodded, “Yes. This way miss.”
You followed after him to the med bay where you quickly spotted Webster propped up on one of the beds. “What happened?” you rushed over to him.
“Got shot in the leg. Can you believe I said ‘they got me’ when it happened?”
You smirked at him, “What would Shakespeare think?” you shook your head at him in mock disapproval and he grinned. “When will you get back on your feet?”
“I don’t know,” he grimaced as he shifted in the bed, “Not for a while I don’t think.”
You bit your lip, “At least you get a bit of a break. I’m sure you’ll be better in no time.”
You stayed with him as long as you could, trying to ignore the jolts your stomach made when he looked at you with his dazzling blue eyes. When one of the nurses kicked you out you promised to come back when you next got the chance but you and your squad got moved out that night and you didn’t have a chance to say goodbye in person.
---
David,
I’ve lost track of where they’ve been carting me around. My life is one engine after the other and I get not time to just sit down and read a good play. It’s amazing I can find time to write this. I hope your leg is doing better. Are you back with your company yet?
Y/N
---
Y/N
Not yet. I can only just about hobble on my leg. The nurses say it could be another couple of weeks before I can leave the hospital. I understand your frustration though here the problem is I have too much time and too little to do. I feel I may die here from boredom alone, if I ever make it back to combat I may go down there (with yet another horrendous cliche line as my last words). I sometimes think I might actually die a bachelor, which based on the marriage suitors my parents have suggested in the past it may be preferable. I yearn to see the lines again. My book won't consist of much if I’m waiting here, but alas, I can’t walk away. Literally.
David
---
David
Sorry to hear your legs still in a bad way. Don't worry, I get the feeling you’ll live to see the end of the war. Try and rest the leg as much as possible and listen the the nurses.
Y/N
---
The war was over. You couldn’t believe it. It was over. You could go home.
You had kept in contact with Webster through the months, though letters didn’t come frequently as the mail delivery was slow and you rarely had the time to write back. Still, you knew about him rejoining easy company and being treated as an outcast until he was finally accepted again, you knew about Landsberg and you knew he was now on his way home.
You had volunteered to stay back in Europe for a while, keep tabs on the vehicles and fix them up as much as you could to see if any of them could still be used or go into displays. You still kept sending letters to David and they came each week now, he had invited you to stay at his place when you returned home and you had eagerly accepted.
After all this time your feelings for him hadn’t diminished. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and it was no different for you. You just didn’t want to go home just yet, you craved the routine and stability being in the air force brought you but soon it came to the point where they sent you home.
The boat ride was long and arduous, though the rocking isn't what made you feel sick. It was the thought of returning home and not have anyone recognise you, or you not recognise them. It had been close to three years since you last saw your friends and family, and a lot had changed in that time.
---
When you had returned to America you and David had helped each other out. Now living together your feelings for one another quickly escalated until they burst. It had been long coming, since camp Toccoa, since Holland. You couldn’t place when it happened but you knew you loved him with all your heart and you knew he loved you just the same.
Together you slowly readjusted to civilian life. You were there whilst he wrote his book and went off onto the sea. He was there as you got a job you liked doing. You were there for each other in the night when you woke from another nightmare. And you were there for each other when things didn’t go to plan.
You stuck together through everything. It had been an instant yes when he got down on one knee, some three years after the war ended.
---
The wedding was in a week. You were strangely calm. You had seen your friends and family members all freak out at this point but you felt content, this was what was right. You and David lay on the couch together, basking in the soft sunlight that trickled past the curtains and onto you. “Remember years ago in that letter, I said I might die a bachelor?” he asked, his voice quiet and silky in your ear.
You hummed in acknowledgement, you had kept and reread all of his letter during the war and you still knew all of them off by heart. “Yeah,” you whispered.
“Well, when I said I would die a bachelor, I did not think I should live till I were married.”
“You getting cold feet?” you teased.
You felt him smile against the back of your neck and he pressed a soft kiss there. “No, quite the opposite. I love you with so much of my heart that none is left to to protest.”
You smiled and rolled in his arms to face him, “Love me!..why?” you played along.
“When you depart from sorrow abides, and happiness takes his leave,” he replied smoothly and you could help but blush. Even after all this time.
“Sap,” you fondly rolled your eyes and leant in to kiss him. This is where you belonged. Next to the man who shared your love of Shakespeare, and could make you feel safe with a single touch. There was no place you would rather be.

What Is Telehealth?
What is “telemedicine” and “telehealth?”
Here’s what people imagine telehealth to be, an interactive real-time video consultation between a doctor and a remote patient.
Telehealth is that, of course.
It’s even better when the consultation is enhanced with instruments that let a doctor (or other provider like a nurse practitioner or physician assistant), examine a patient’s eardrum or listen to their heart from afar.
Access to a shared electronic medical record makes the encounter that much more powerful.
Phrase trends of "telehealth" vs. "telemedicine"
View Graph on Ngram Viewer
As a rural family doctor, I did telemedicine many times every day, a decade before I owned a computer, let alone a smartphone. In the days when there were only landlines, I gave medical advice to patients and sought advice on challenging cases from colleagues over the phone.
That was telemedicine.
I was practicing medicine from a distance. Likewise, when I called a prescription to the pharmacy or an order to the laboratory. After a few years, I was faxing some of those prescriptions and orders.
That was telemedicine too.
You may have noticed that I’ve used both words, “telemedicine” and “telehealth.” The word “telehealth” came along in the 1980s, about 15 years after “telemedicine” first appears in Ngram.
The word “health” is meant to convey a broader scope of practice than “medicine,” which implies just a physician-based medical practice. “Telehealth” includes for example: consultations with therapists or dietitians; support groups; and lately, self-monitoring and uploading of everything, from steps taken to blood sugar to mood.
Truth is, most everybody, including me, uses “telemedicine” and “telehealth” interchangeably.
How Modern Telehealth Has Influenced Healthcare
In 1999 McGraw-Hill released a book I co-wrote with healthcare futurist Jeff Bauer, Telemedicine and the Reinvention of Healthcare. Jeff and I came up with this definition for our book:
“Telemedicine is the combined use of telecommunications and computer technologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare services by liberating caregivers from the traditional constraints of place and time and by empowering consumers to make informed choices in a competitive marketplace.”
That’s a mouthful. But it holds up pretty well, I think, considering it’s 190 tech-years (19 people-years) old.
What Is Telemedicine and Digital Healing?
For my book, Digital Healing: People, Information and Healthcare, published last year by Taylor&Francis and released in audio version by Audible, I wrote this streamlined definition, “Telemedicine is the use of electronic information and communication technology to overcome barriers of distance and time when delivering healthcare.”
It’s about using technology to subdue distance and time. Period. Which means that the questions and pictures about a rash that you send to me electronically or that I forward on to a dermatologist are telemedicine.
The care doesn’t have to happen in real time—it can be based on information that is stored-and-forwarded.
Whether you called me with your initial query or contacted me with pictures and questions via my practice’s patient portal, it’s all telemedicine. It’s all care at a distance.

What is Telehealth?
Once we grasp that telemedicine is based on a broad set of communication tools, we can begin to solve real problems and meet real needs, usually at reasonable cost. The technology itself gets cheaper, more reliable and easier to use every day.
“Let’s get a cool interactive video system. Now, what’s the problem?” describes a process that is 180 degrees from what it ought to be.
It should go more like this, “We see patients with acute strokes at our rural emergency room. The sooner we get clot buster drugs into their system, the more stroke patients we could save from a lifetime of disability. But if we give this potent medication to the wrong patient, such as one whose brain event is the result of a bleed, not a clot, we could make things catastrophically worse. We need a neurologist to interpret the acute brain CT scan and advise us how to proceed; and we need them right away, because time is neurons. The longer the delay in administering anti-coagulation, the worse the outcome.”
Fortunately, I have in my rural ER a CT scanner and a stock of anticoagulant. I am present myself to interview and examine the patient. As a family doctor, what I need most of all is for a neurologist or a radiologist to interpret the radiology image. The hospital’s CT scanner must have a broadband connection so it can send the digital “films” STAT for expert interpretation.
Crucially, there has to be a protocol on the receiving end for a consultant to look at the images immediately and call me back with the results. We need a system. That’s the challenge. These days the technology is pretty standard.
Parenthetically, what we don’t need is for the consulting doctor and me to be able to see each other on a video monitor nor, for that matter, for the patient and distant doc to be in visual contact. That’s how one big hospital organization in my state sold their acute stroke management system, by featuring their fancy, new video system.
“Let us do a telemedicine consult,” they said. And people bought it.
Telehealth Isn’t a Magic Solution
The real-time video just made the whole interaction more cumbersome, especially in the old days of telemedicine when you had to wheel a cart bearing a big monitor and a heavy codec (the video equivalent of a modem) up to the patient bedside and hook it up to hard wiring that had been installed in the room.
Fortunately, this medical center does have excellent stroke doctors who give good advice and a well-oiled system for communicating with referrers. But it was the sizzle of *T*E*L*E*M*E*D*I*C*I*N*E* more than the steak of immediate expert consultation that made their program go, and also made it more expensive.
Telemedicine Should Enhance Healthcare, Not Replace It
Whether you’re a provider or a patient, located in the city or in the country, try to think of telemedicine as a set of tools, no different than what you have in your shop. Sometimes you need a table saw to make a cut. Sometimes all you need is a razor blade.
Choosing the right tool for the job is critical. But first you have to understand what that job is.
In healthcare that means that sometimes you may need a high-end video system for talking a distant surgeon through a hairy procedure and sometimes you’ll just need the telephone to reassure a worried parent.
It’s all communication. And it’s all telehealth.

How does motorcycle insurance work?
So I just wanted to know a little about the pay brackets with motorcycle. Im not talking specific numbers cause I know to just get a quota for that. What I heard is for things like scooters or bikes under 150cc there is a bracket. Then it goes up for anything between 150cc to less than 400cc. Then after that you can expect insurance to go up more when you get into the 600cc supersports and so on. I know im wording this kind of poorly. It makes sense just like how insurance for a Ferrari is going to more than a pickup truck or economy car. I just remember someone saying on a forum that they got a ninja 400r and they were happy that its technically a 399cc engine bucause if it was just a bit more the insurance would have gone up to the next class in motorcycle insurance. I just wanted to know if someone can help explain how this works. I wouldnt mind having something stronger than a 250 or 300 motorcycle but if it means that insurance is going to double or something for a 600 or 650 then I may stray away from it because I still have insurance for my car. Also on a side note how exactly does super sport insurance typically compare to standard bikes? For example maybe a gsxr 600 or CBR 600 vs something like a SV650. Both have similarly sized engines but Im sure 600 super sports are more aggressively tuned and other factors. Lastly my one friend had a Kawasaki. I cant remember what kind but it may have been like a 2002 ninja 600? Anyways his monthly insurance was like less then $20 a month! Does anyone know what kind of coverage he may have had. When he crashed it, insurance paid for the damages to the car he hit and for himself. The bike however, was not covered at all. Is this a real thing or am I remembering it wrong? I hit another car and I have no insurance?
My boyfriend just gave me his old car as a gift, I planned on getting insurance to it the moment I put it under my name, but I was driving today and I rear ended another car. I was placed in police car as they did some investigation. The other police officer found out that the other car was a rental and that they had Avis insurance. I kept asking the police officer when do I find out about making payments to the other car. He gave me a ticket and said there will be no payments for the other car. Me and and the other car never exchanged any information. This is my first accident, I am a little confused. Am I suppose to get sued. And what is the likelihood that that the other car's insurance would charge me 10k or more for the accident? I want an idea so I can start saving money and trying to make payments now. Is there a way I can start making payments without having to go to court to get sued.""

""If healthy foods were more affordable, would health insurance be cheaper?""
It irritates me beyond words that people these days are almost forced to have a poor diet because junk food is more affordable. Then, the health risks associated with eating junk food cause more people in the hospital, more money being shucked at pharmaceutical companies for medicine to treat the diseases cause by poor diets, and health insurance and taxes we all have to pay for regardless of how healthy we try to be. I mean, if a packet of Ramen noodles is 50 cents and an apple is $1.50, the majority of the financially stressed nation is going to reach for the Ramen. I would love to eat mostly raw fruits and veggies all day long, but I simply can't afford that and it makes me feel like the government is forcing me to eat crappy foods in order to survive. Why are healthy foods so expensive? And wouldn't it factor out in the end to reduce the price of healthy foods knowing a lot of money would no longer have to be forked out for doctor's visits?""

What are short-term life insurance needs?
I currently have a 5 year term life insurance policy with State Farm and I was wondering if it were possible for me to make a withdrawl or loan from this policy. I researched this some and on some websites it said it wasn't possible; however whenever I look on State Farms website it says the below: The State Farm 5 Year Term policy provides affordable life insurance protection for a five year period and is renewable for subsequent 5-year periods until age 85 (age 80 in NY). It is great for covering any short-term life insurance needs you may have. Short-term life insurance needs may include such things as: * Car loan * College tuition * Home equity loan * Mortgage loan * Business loan * Student loan * Key employee Term insurance may also be appropriate when your life insurance needs are great but your budget is tight. Does this mean I can make a withdrawal so that I can pay off my student loans? Also, it seems that my policy has ended in December; however, I was still charged this month. The policy started in 2005.""

Insurance on a 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa......?
Wow dont ask me how, but I lucked up and found some RIDICULOUSLY cheap insurance. I have been looking for about a day and a half. Every last MAJOR insurance company you can think of. For some reason everyone on here kept saying check out Progessive. They were one of the MOST expensive. If you have a SUPER sport bike. Meaning either the Kawaski 12 or 14 or the Suzuki 1300 Busa, everyone is quoting you between $6,000 to $8,000 for a year. Thats like $400-$500 a month. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen in my life. But then my salesman told me to call State Farm. He said trust him, that he used to race sportsbikes and always insured through state farm. So I call them and get a quote for $767 for the year. The same Bike that EVERYONE else quoted at $1000. Honestly I could not belive the lady. I do not understand how the price is that different. My salesman said that it is because State Farm is the only comapny that doesnt run the vin number of the bike and put it in the""

Health Insurance - too expensive - should I ditch it and will it get cheaper in 2014?

As a 38-yr-old female with a BMI that is(was) borderline obesity, I pay $278 per month (about twice the original quote on the website which was about $140.) I freelance. One of my jobs collects contributions from my employers into an account that I can use to reimburse my premium payments, and I was hoping that I'd be able to make enough to use that account to really pay toward my monthly health insurance. My financial situation has plummeted, however, and I am really struggling to keep my head above water for the first time since I moved out. Just looking for some outside input here. So far every agent i have talked to has said their business is the one to be in so i just want some not so bias opinions. seems like all the insurance companies just want to get UN knowing teens ( like myself ) in and work them for 6 months to a year and suck them dry of all the money they have. i understand that you have to work and its not just six figures in the first year.

Do you have to pay for a full year of car insurance if your car is written off part way through that year?
I pay my car insurance every month as a direct debit out of my bank account. My policy actually expires in March each year and I'm sent a renewal letter saying that if I wish to continue with my policy I just need to keep paying it monthly as I always have. Then come July my car was total written off. According to the insurance compay I still need to pay for a full years insurance, that is I need to pay all the insurance premiums up until March next year as this is when the policy expires. I figure if I don't have the car any more as it's a write off, and I'm able to cancelled the rego on it, why should I have to pay. I would have thought that if I'd paid a full years insurance in March that I would be entitled to a refund if my car was written off part way through the year. Any help would be appreciated.""

Mindless Mindfulness
The Mindlessness of Mindfulness
Dr. Bill Wilson
Recently as we rushed through the Tampa airport I noticed in one of the bookstores a glossy “Special Edition” from Time titled “Mindfulness—The New Science of Health and Happiness.” On the cover was a picture of a blissful young lady who appeared to be totally tuned out. Because of my decades of interest in Neuroscience, especially the connection between diet and brain function, I quickly paged through the magazine. What I saw was page after page of mostly worthless woo and gibberish. so I put the book down and ran to my plane.
Bad Advice From Non-professionals
Once I arrived at our condo in Tarpon Springs Florida I decided to download the article on my Kindle to give it a good read. After all, my first impression might have been wrong. You might find it worthwhile to download this Kindle version so this post will make more sense. The actual physical book is pretty expensive. I read the article from cover to cover and it was worse than I had expected. Each subsequent chapter was worse than the previous one when it comes to presenting what I call flawed science or pseudoscience. Of course these opinions are mine alone, but they are based on over 40 years of clinical practice and a vast exposure to the scientific literature. To help you understand just why the information in this article was so flawed, we first need to review the nature of science. Modern science is a two-part process. The first part is empiric science where observations are made in the real world looking for patterns in the noise. When you make consistent observations over time you then try to come up with a theory to explain your observations.
For example, if every time you sail your ships away from the shore they never return, you might speculate that the world is flat and your ships are simply falling off the edge of the world. Or perhaps there is some type of horrible monster out there who loves to eat ships. If every time you send out your ships they discover another continent and then they eventually return to their starting point, perhaps it’s because the world is round. You could then devise a series of experiments to test each theory. Or perhaps you notice that every time you drop an apple (or any object for that matter), it tends to fall to the earth at a predictable rate. You might then speculate that somehow matter has properties that attract other matter. You could then devise controlled experiments to prove or disprove your theory. One thing you don’t want to do is to spend a lot of time studying side-ways falling apples!
Never Ignore the Science
When it comes to science and biology, things get even more complex. There are many variables in biology and if you miss some important ones, your data will be flawed and worthless. As I read through this article I recognized that many of the patients and writers had certain familiar brain dysfunction symptoms that generally aren’t found in healthy normal people. Over the past 40 years we have learned that these symptoms seem to occur after long-term exposure to highly processed food mainly containing excessive fructose from added sugars, high glycemic carbohydrates mainly from grains and excessive omega 6 fatty acids relative to omega 3 fatty acids. Of course this is the Standard American Diet that most people are exposed to every day of their lives. Over many years we have identified 22 typical symptoms of the disease. The lead symptom is always strong cravings for sweet and starchy food, pushing people to consume more of very food that is frying their brain. We decided to call this form of food-induced brain dysfunction Carbohydrate Associated Reversible Brain syndrome or CARB syndrome.
Thin Yet Fat?
We also noticed that folks with CARB syndrome tend to accumulate excessive body fat regardless of caloric intake, level of exercise, size, weight or BMI and they are much more prone to metabolic syndrome and type II diabetes. They also tend to have a lot more trouble functioning in every imaginable environment. This article is loaded with people who fit the classic CARB syndrome pattern and they are proud to present their various workarounds and tricks for dealing with their brain problems. By the way, all people with CARB syndrome experience a magnified response to stress. Healthy humans with normal brain function handle stress like water off a duck’s back, whereas those with CARB syndrome get stressed when the cat sneezes! Do really think that our ancient ancestors were into “stress management techniques” or mindfulness exercises?
A Major Scientific Breakthrough
You could certainly argue that it should be easy to ignore the musing of a simple country doctor like myself, but I am not the first professional to notice these trends. In 2003 James I. Hudson, MD, ScD; Barbara Mangweth, PhD and Harrison G. Pope Jr, MD, MPH from McLean Hospital in Boston published a series of articles making a strong argument that a diverse group of medical and psychiatric conditions are actually part of the same pathological process. These conditions include:
· Major depressive disorder (MDD)
· ADHD
· Bulimia nervosa
· Irritable bowel syndrome
· Cataplexy
· Dysthymic disorder
· Fibromyalia
· Generalized anxiety disorder
· Panic disorder
· PTSD
· Irritable bowel syndrome
· Migraine
· Obsessive compulsive disorder
· Premenstrual dysphoric disorder
· Social phobia
They proposed that these fifteen fairly common conditions aggregated together in both individuals and families, suggesting a possible common pathology. They went beyond suggesting that these conditions were co-morbid. They were proposing that they seemed to be part of the same pathological process with a strong hereditary component. In other words, they were proposing that the above 15 conditions were part of the same pathological process and likely shared similar treatments. They called this condition Affective Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As you can imagine, their proposal was considered to be extremely radical by the medical and scientific communities, much more than they could handle in a short period of time. Because they never identified the triggers or pathology of ASD, the concept eventually died on the academic vine. Most physicians and Psychiatrists today have never heard of the disorder.
A New Disease Process Emerges
Years ago I stumbled across their papers and realized that I was seeing the ASD pattern in many patients in my primary care practice. Over time I concluded that this disorder was triggered by the long-term exposure to highly processed food. Some individuals seemed to be more genetically prone to the ASD/CARB syndrome process. Hudson and Pope suggested that their might be treatments that would simultaneously benefit all of these conditions. Over many decades in my primary care practice, through trial and error I found some simple treatments that seem to completely reverse CARB syndrome over time:
· The cravings for sweet and starchy foods must first be suppressed with low dose drug combinations and targeted supplements like L-glutamine.
· Patients need to be educated about the healthiest way to eat. In general a whole foods diet seems to work best. Paleo and ketogenic diets seem to be the most effective for people with advanced CARB syndrome.
· Serum homocysteine levels must be kept below 7 by using various B vitamins including L-methylfolate.
· The EPA/AA ratio must be kept between 1 and 3 usually by supplementing with a high-quality omega 3 supplement or eating a lot of small fatty fish like sardines.
· Monoamine neurotransmitter levels must be restored by giving a mixed precursor supplement containing 5-htp and L-tyrosine in a ratio of 10 to 1.
· Exercising on a regular basis is good because of its positive effect on brain function.
· I recommend supplementing with a special form of magnesium called magnesium L-thronate, the only form to cross the blood brain barrier.
The details of these treatments are beyond the scope of this post but more information can be found at: http://carbsyndrome.com/.
When brain function was restored in my patients through these effective treatments, I found that many of the tricks and workarounds discussed in this article were completely unnecessary. They didn’t need meditation, yoga, mindfulness training, breathing techniques and all the tricks described in the article to deal with distraction and stress. I had to smile when I read the suggestion that people put their smart phone in a drawer so it won’t distract them. In my opinion that’s only true for people with untreated CARB syndrome.
Bring Back the Flip Phone
For example, one of the best physicians that I have ever worked with is my Cardiologist friend Mike Arsenian. One day I noticed that he was still using a flip phone. I asked him why he didn’t get a smart phone. He gave me a subtle smile and started “because I would probably accidently drop it in the toilet.” I knew the real reason. He had little use for endless “apps” and mainly used his phone to talk to colleagues and patients. If you called his flip phone number, he would always answer 24/7. When you could hear the wind in the background you knew that he was on his lobster boat pulling traps because Mike is also a commercial lobsterman. He runs 4 miles 4-5 times per week and eats a healthy diet. He takes a few supplements that I have recommended. It is very clear that Mike does not have CARB syndrome so most the recommendations in this article would be totally worthless for him and he clearly doesn’t need the mostly useless technology of a smart phone. You could probably also guess his view of social media!
Why Most Scientific Studies are Flawed
This article lists many different scientific studies supporting various activities to improve health and functioning. These are so-called “controlled” studies where people who appear to be the same are divided up into two groups. One group is subjected to the variable being studied while the other is not and at the end to the study the two groups are compared to see if the variable had any effect. The problem is, none of these studies considered whether or not people being studied had CARB syndrome. If an important variable is missed, the results of the study will automatically be flawed. Thus in my opinion virtually all psychiatric studies in recent years are invalid because they missed or ignored the CARB syndrome concept. My wife went to medical school with John Ioannidis who wrote the landmark paper “Why Most Published Research Findings are False.”
Two Types of Depression?
Another example might be instructive. Depression has been around since the dawn of mankind. It was initially labeled as melancholia or black bile. Patients with melancholia were always severely depressed and they gained no pleasure from any activity. They always lost their appetite and lost weight. They slept poorly and withdrew from family and friends. The only effective treatment for melancholia today is strong drugs called monoamine oxidase inhibitors and electroshock therapy. The incidence of this type of depression has not increased over time and none of the treatment methods outlined in this article will have any positive effect on improving melancholia.
Over the past 50-75 years we started to see a lot of depressed people who have an increased appetite with cravings for sweet and starchy food and weight gain. They also are able to gain some satisfaction from daily activities. They usually respond to SSRI medications and they also often improve with some of the techniques discussed in this article. The folks at DSM who come up with the criteria for psychiatric disorders decided to call this form of depression “atypical depression”. The incidence of this type of depression has increased at an epidemic rate over the past few decades. The folks at DSM just came out with version V and they consider melancholia and atypical depression to be subtypes of the same disease—major depression disorder (MDD).
Now let’s back up for a minute and start thinking like scientists. If a parameter such as weight qualifies you for a disease throughout the spectrum of the parameter, throw it out because it can’t possibly help you make the diagnosis! In my opinion atypical depression is not really a psychiatric disorder at all and it has no connection to classic depression. It is a brain/metabolic disorder called CARB syndrome and if you fail to treat it like CARB syndrome the patient will get worse rather than better. This isn’t rocket science—it’s plain old fashioned science, a parameter that seems to be sorely missing in the article.
Integrative Medicine—Let the Snake Oil Flow
This article also relies heavily on practitioners of “integrative medicine”. Dr. Andrew Weil who is quoted in this article defines integrative medicine this way: “Integrative medicine is healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person (body, mind, and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and makes use of all appropriate therapies, both conventional and alternative.” Talk about woo-ville. Medicine is either based on solid science or it isn’t. If people want to meditate, eat mindfully (say by chewing on a single raisin), attend a yoga class or practice controlled breathing, go for it. These activities can be enjoyable and satisfying but they are not part of medicine because there is little good science to support their effectiveness at reversing or treating common diseases.
I do agree that getting plenty of direct sun exposure and grounding both likely have health benefits so this article isn’t a total wash, but you have wade through piles of bad stuff to find the few useful tidbits.
This article also discusses at length the history of meditation in various cultures going back thousands of years. It’s important to remember one thing—back then nobody had CARB syndrome. Today trying to use meditation to treat an illness like CARB syndrome is like trying to kill an elephant with a peashooter! If you don’t have CARB syndrome I’m a great fan of some sort of meditation. I get mine as a member of the Greek Orthodox Church but I would never try to use meditation to treat a serious illness like CARB syndrome.
I was especially interested in the section titled “Fourteen Ways to Eat in the Moment (And Love it)” by Michelle May, author of the series of books titled “Eat What you Love, Love What You Eat” series of books. Because of my interest in the connection between diet and brain function I took a careful look at her recommendations. Let’s go through them one by one.
1. Start with: Do I really want this? This implies that humans need to use their conscious brain to tell them what and how much to eat. This is only true for people with CARB syndrome where their normal automatic hunger drives have been disrupted. People with normal brain function eat on autopilot guided by their bodies’ nutritional needs.
2. Actually sit down. They site a study showing that people who eat on the go tend to eat more food. In this case it was granola bars. First of all, nobody should be eating granola bars because they are loaded with added sugars, highly refined carbs and bad fats. People with CARB syndrome will never eat the right amount and type of food that their body needs regardless of their body position. People without CARB syndrome will never have to consciously think about food and eating because everything is on autopilot.
3. Act like a baby. This section suggests that “we should take the time to notice the aroma and flavor of, say, a pizza slice we’re about to shovel down.” Once again I hate to tell you, but if you are eating a lot of pizza you are heading on a fast track to CARB syndrome, poor brain function and poor overall health. I would suggest eating like a healthy adult and let your normal hunger drives be your guide. Of course for that to happen you can’t have CARB syndrome.
4. Have lunch anywhere but at your desk. They claim that if you eat at your desk you won’t fully experience your meal and you might end up overeating. Once again this is only true for people with CARB syndrome. People with normal brain function can eat anywhere and anytime they want and their intake will be automatically guided by their bodies’ nutritional needs. The human brain evolved to exactly match intake and type of food to what the body needs. The conscious mind isn’t involved in this process unless you have some type of brain dysfunction.
5. Create a food speed bump. May recommends dividing food on our plate in half to remind us whether or not we really need to clean our plate. Once again, this is only true for people with CARB syndrome. To me this seems just plain silly.
6. Go wild with Thai takeout. It’s implied that by tasting new ethnic foods you will be less likely to eat on autopilot and overeat. Seriously?
7. Don’t swear off comfort food. This is one of my favorites. So-called comfort food is the primary trigger of CARB syndrome. If you want to be sick with poor brain function, go for it!
8. Have candy, just don’t have it handy. “Renowned” food researcher Brain Wansink found that people consumed 125 less calories from Hershey’s Kisses if they moved the candy dishes six feet away from their desks. Once again, if you have CARB syndrome eating any amount of Hershey’s Kisses will fry your brain and eventually put you six feet under. People with healthy brains and no CARB syndrome will likely avoid this type of food no matter where it is placed. By the way, at one point Wansink was discredited for falsifying some of his study results. Perhaps he ate too many Hershey’s Kisses and that affected his ability to think rationally!
9. Chew like a cow. They discussed a study where people wearing noise blocking headphones ate more cookies, pretzels and chips than those not wearing headphones. Somehow the sound of eating these items made them eat less. I hate to tell you but both groups are heading for CARB syndrome if they continue to eat any amount of this type of toxic food.
10. Beat buffet syndrome. This section claims that tensing your muscles at a buffet will reduce the amount of food you put on your place. Sounds like a lot of fun but I’d like to see the studies. Once again people with normal brain function will automatically eat the right type and amount of food in any setting. People with CARB syndrome will virtually always eat too much of the wrong type of food. That’s what keeps commercial Buffets in business!
11. Play with texture. They suggest things like adding crushed salted pretzels to frozen yogurt. I call it a fast track to CARB syndrome. Folks, I hate to tell you but this is not real whole food and if you eat it you will eventually fry your brain and become sick.
12. Follow the rule of two. You can order a reasonable entrée plus any two things you really want. Have a little cocaine and methamphetamine with your ibuprofen! Wow—this is some of the worst nutritional advice that I have ever heard.
13. Clean that cluttered kitchen. They claim a neat kitchen will automatically reduce food intake. This may be true for people with CARB syndrome, but as I have already mentioned, people with normal brain function will eat according to their bodies needs regardless of the environment.
14. End the meal on a favorite. They give an example of finishing a meal with mashed potatoes if that is your favorite food. I hate to tell you but if mashed potatoes are your favorite food you already have CARB syndrome and your brain is in the toilet.
Mashed up Nutritional Advice
These 14 “tricks” are likely some of the worst nutritional advice that I have ever been exposed to if you want to be healthy. If you really want to know the heathiest way to eat, especially when it comes to brain function, I would start with Joe Mercola’s new book “Fat for Fuel”. In this excellent book he outlines the benefits of consuming a low carbohydrate, moderate protein, high fat (healthy fats) diet. This is an ideal diet to enhance brain function. Next on your reading list should be Jimmy Moore’s book “Keto Clarity”. As with Dr. Mercola he guides you through the benefits of eating healthy fats. One of the best new books out there concerning diet and health is Robb Wolf’s new book “Wired to Eat”. He walks you through a program to individualize your diet based on your own body type and genetics. He also wrote the excellent book “The Paleo Solution Diet”. Robert Lustig, Richard Johnson and Gary Taubes have written excellent books focusing on the toxic effects of fructose from added sugars. All of these scientists and writers are pointing you in the same direction—if you want to be healthy and avoid CARB syndrome, eat a diet low in fructose especially from sugars along with moderate protein and high quality healthy fats. I know these recommendations likely will give the authors of this article heart attacks, but sometimes the truth does hurt!
10 on the Fluff and Woo Scale
In summary, this article contains little or no science and is based on the opinions of various individuals who share Weil’s approach to medicine. If you have CARB syndrome none of these approaches will have any positive effect on your long-term health. You need effective treatment as I have outlined above. If you don’t have CARB syndrome or another serious medical problem, these activities will likely cause little or no harm but you don’t need them to be healthy. This silly article basically outlines the symptoms and thoughts of people with untreated CARB syndrome and unless they get effective treatment their long-term prognosis for good health is poor. For them to be giving advice to you about how to stay healthy in my opinion is mindless and unprofessional. I would give this article a 10 on the fluff and woo scale?
