   Here it goes again. They won’t give up, will they? Suki and Jae-Hwan. It doesn’t matter how many times he attempts to block them with his bitter mouth and disgruntled teeth, these two keep coming his way like unafraid birds sitting on the arms of the saddest and ugliest scarecrow. Inspector Im with their bright smile that almost looks odd in comparison to the office’s gloom; with plastic bags full of food and the need to replace folders tucked in Hyuk’s hands for chopsticks. And then there’s her, Forensic Scientist Nakamura, intrepidity dressed in pink; with hands that could turn all of these written, overwhelming stories in a parade of figurines and an attitude which could be translated into pure dynamite if allowed. Her way of caring is a tad bit harsher than Jae-Hwan’s. 

   She doesn’t ask --- she knows asking nicely won’t work in this case.    She doesn’t have time for nonsense.     She sets rules and lists the consequences of not abiding to said rules.     The biggest consequence of them all being her origami skills used as a weapon. 

    He remembers something like this. Vaguely. His mind sometimes struggles, as if fragmented due to being rammed into a pool of distress more than a few times. But he remembers, back when he worked in the LAPD and he met her, Suki Nakamura, a clever investigator who decided to leave the States to bring her talent to this dingy office that Hyuk can barely cover with his savings. He remembers that she also said things like these, similar things...and he preferred to abide to them than having paper animals scattered all over his desk. 

   But right now, you could drown him in paper frogs, pigeons, ducks...and he’d refuse to move from his seat until finding what he’s looking for. Can’t she see that this is important? No, no...he hasn’t told anyone. He hasn’t expressed why it’s so important to go back to the files that have any information concerning Patrick’s watch. He hasn’t confessed that he saw a very similar one falling from the Black Knight’s pocket. 

    He hasn’t said anything about the map, either.      The one resting in one of his hands; a pencil on the other.      He’s been circling and drawing dots around certain zones.      Zones within Itaewon. 

  “I asked about the possible effects of fire on a watch or similar items, not advice, Nakamura.”

    His edges have turned harder; his demeanor tense and exhausted. She’s more than observant, of course. And it’s noticeable, isn’t it? The bags under his eyes; the rigid lines etched onto his face. She’s right, very right: the detective does need a break; does need to rest. He’s been needing a breather for years...but it’s not something he allows himself to have, less when he knows he has things to do. 

    Lee Hyuk always has things to do.      The truth requires a full-time position. 

     It also seems everyone keeps giving him advice he deems unnecessary.      Suki. Jae-Hwan. The Black Knight.

   “I already slept last night.” 

    And by sleeping last night, he means the 10-ish minutes where he fell asleep without knowing, right on his desk. What woke him up was the sound of something scratching the floor. He’s not sure if he imagined it, because nothing was there when he woke up. Then again, the slightest of sounds tend to stir him, so who knows. Maybe it was his own shoe. 

   “I’ll be here for as long as it takes. Origami Zoo or not---” 

    Or.      Hyuk looks back at the map, traces a line there.      From the office’s location to a place within Itaewon.      Maybe he should start there.      At least, he vaguely remembers being there that day.      He just hopes his mind isn’t betraying him.     What’s real and what isn’t anymore?

    He stands up from his seat, folds and tucks the map within the pocket inside his jacket. Hyuk turns to look at Suki. 

    “Fine. I’ll take a break. Just because I remembered how much I hate unfolding those things.”

     A lie, a faux statement that he distracts by using his index finger to point at a sparkly headband sitting on his desk. He took it out of his hair this morning (he won’t admit it helped by taking away strands of hair that sometimes block his vision). 

    “I told you to stop tying my hair with that.”

    Hand drops to his side and he starts moving, toward the door.     Toward some exploration around Itaewon. 

    “I’ll...return later.”

You put so much work into fleshing out various parts of backstories, and not only the more intense and heavy parts of it but also the smaller mundane things that can reveal a lot about a character. Writing hc posts is always intimidating to me because I feel defeated if no one reads it................... and so, I'm impressed that you do it anyway, because it's for you to enjoy first and foremost!

ahhh thank you so much kwun ;-; honestly i've found that the only way i can make a good character is that no matter how much shit i've piled onto on a muse, i have to be able to make fun of them for at least one thing...ex. patrick- lots of pain in his backstory, but u know what he insists on wearing converses no matter where he goes, even if it's a formal event, even if his outfit does not match the shoes JFKLSDJF

but in all seriousness, i definitely get that feeling with being reluctant about posting hcs on this hellsite...it seems that a good chunk of the rpc focuses more on visuals rather than an character development, but each to their own, this hobby isn't meant to be a popularity contest anyways!! it means a lot to me though when i see you and my other followers like my hc posts <3

Adonis:

Has Adonis ever considered completely cutting himself off from his family? If so, what stops him?

How does Adonis feel about his brother and his sister? Does he wish they were closer? Has he ever resented his brother for being a standard he can’t live up to and/or his sister for being able to break away from their parents’ grasp?

Jude:

Seeing that Jude is a vigilante, what is Jude’s perspective on breaking the law? How about finding justice? Aka if it were a matter of getting justice at the price of compromising her morals, would she do it?

What kind of hobbies does Jude have? Are there any skills/activities in particular she'd like to try out?

What does her brother think of Jude's vigilante activities and/or Sandy?

Adonis:

He hasn’t considered cutting off his family, and that is simply because he loves them and holds on to the hopeless hope that they will finally accept and love him for who he is. That being said, he knows that if they ever made him choose between them and the love of his life...he won’t be choosing them.

(This is an amazing question omg!!!!) Adonis is afraid of his brother and very slightly intimidated by his sister. He does see Alexander as the standard he will never be able to reach, and he also feels like Alexander looks down on him. He will never admit it, but Adonis does have a very deeply buried resentment for his brother. It somewhat stems from jealousy, but the true reason for it is that Alexander has never defended him. If anything, Alexander’s wife Cara has done a better job of defending Adonis than Alexander ever has. As for Althea, Adonis finds her slightly intimidating only because she’s powerful enough to break free. And if she’s powerful enough to crush what he holds sacred for himself, then what else is she powerful enough to do? He doesn’t resent her for it in the slightest, though, but he does wish they were closer growing up because...maybe she could have taught him how to break free, too. He’s grateful he and Alexander weren’t close, on the other hand. If you asked him which sibling he feels closest to, he would say his sister-in-law Cara.

Jude:

Jude doesn’t break the law. I honestly can’t think of a single scenario during her vigilante career of stopping petty criminals where she did anything worse than property damage -- and that was an involuntary result of a fight. Despite being a vigilante, Jude does respect the law, and she will only break it if she has to. Her morals generally align with it, anyway. The one thing she will never do is take justice into her own hands by punishing the criminals herself. She always leaves them for the cops. She believes everyone should get a fair trial no matter their crime. The only way for her to compromise these values would probably be if her family were in immediate danger and she had to act fast. When she has free time, Jude likes to watch movies either by herself or with her family. (One of her favourite pastimes is pointing at evil/ugly movie characters and telling Malik “That’s you!”) She enjoys cooking, but does that really count as a hobby when it’s also a chore? She also used to read novels in high school but hasn’t had the time for that since.

Malik loves the idea of his sister being a superhero! He thinks Sandy is really cute, too, and he’s amicably jealous of what an awesome duo they make.     While I think this episode had a lot of interesting concepts to work with they will unfortunately             Wasted                   By the episode lack of commitment, consistency, and constant characterization,

     - Anakin’s resent             -ment                    Of          slavery             (His care of it turns off and on like a light switch and his intensity             varies)

         Functioning less like a Berzerk/.              accountability button                  (Mild               Responsibility)  

               And                 more                  like                   an                excuse            to have him             flip his lid,

             Make                   odd                 facial            expressions,  

             And generally put, shout  put emphasis In a nonsensical bordering on                  inhumane way

                What seems to be a disturbing trend (with the characters       ;)

               Specifically the                  Zygarian                     here

              -The                 difference               between            wild and tamed;                   Along with a constant theme of slavery,                  It’s paired with the constant imagery                 of animals in cages

             Which would be fine if it was actually presented as an               excessive detail,

             But the focus is put on it and nothing ever seems to come of it

            (Almost as if it’s expected that just by having      it there, the motif comes with it)

             Animals in cages and...            What?

             Like, I have an idea         what they’re trying to hint at,

             But until           the story commits;

             “These animals           are very much like you,”

               Then it remains in                        limbo,

He doesn’t really mind if one or the other takes place. Jae-Hwan can totally do the asking if the opportunity is there (or if he’s been planning to do it for a while now), but if someone asks him on a date he won’t get upset -- ACTUALLY...I think he’ll be quite giddy about it (especially if, you know, he likes the person who’s asking), catch him getting sparkly eyes and putting the back of his hand near his mouth to hide the smile IUWHEDIUHD--- 

💑 What are my muse’s requirements for a potential partner?

I don’t think there are requirements which are set in stone BUT so far, I’ve noticed that Jae-Hwan tends to gravitate toward those who have a combination of a strong character and a good heart. Based on this, it makes me believe they are keen on intrepidity, dauntlessness and kindness. They just enjoy when a person is authentic to themselves, when they know what they want and try their very best to get there; when someone speaks their mind and does it in a way that holds conviction (and also a degree of respect, depending on who they’re talking to).  Also, open-mindedness is important. I don’t think Jae-Hwan would be able to tolerate someone who refuses to absorb new information even if it might be beneficial. They don’t like unjustified rudeness, nor would they be comfortable with a quickly judgmental person (judging books just by their cover? You’ve already lost Jae-Hwan).  SWEETNESS AND CHARM, TOO, Jae-Hwan wouldn’t mind a sprinkle or two of that in the mix! AND OH they do like silliness and goofiness from time to time as well (they can be...this way as well so if you join them in the silly and goofy, chances are they’ll be smiling like a fool UIWEHDWDE). 

💘 What are the ways my muse says ‘I love you’ without actually saying it?

OH BOY, Jae-Hwan is a very naturally caring person, he’ll automatically try to make you feel at ease in any way he can, no matter if he’s met you recently or if you’ve been close for years. So he does...some things to show that he cares for someone’s well-being, such as: ⚫ Taking mental note of the things someone enjoys (such as food, objects, colors, trinkets, things like those) so he can later bring them to them. He’s the type to randomly put something in your hands and go ‘I got it because it made me think of you’. AND I THINK, the more things he brings your way out of the blue, the more he thinks of you and therefore, that’s when you know it’s transformed into a hushed ‘I love you’ or ‘I care about you a lot’.  ⚫ Making sure you’ve eaten well, taking note of the foods you like so he can get that for you. ⚫ Even if he does, indeed, have a lot of patience, he doesn’t have a gargantuan amount with just everyone. He knows when to draw his limits most of the times, and only brings his biggest size of forbearance to those he cares for.  ⚫ Getting out of his way to help you in any way he can help. ⚫ Making time for you no matter how busy his schedule might be. ⚫ Be aware of your emotions as much as he can. He’s not a mind-reader in the slightest, but if he notices that you’re sad or dealing with a negative feeling, he’ll be thinking of ways to cheer you up, hoping they might work, even a little bit.  ⚫ Taking off his jacket to give it to you during a cold day --- BUT IF IT’S HIS DENIM JACKET WITH PATCHES, that’s another ‘I love you’ right there.  ⚫ Pursuing gestures like the one above, other examples would be: He makes sure you get the bigger piece when he’s sharing something with you, letting you eat first before he can eat himself, walk on the outside of a sidewalk so you stay on the inside of it, etc.  ⚫ AND???    For Lee Hyuk, Valentine’s Day could easily pass him by. Most of the times, he’s too swamped in work to even remember what day is it, let alone realize if said day contains something special or different about it. Sometimes he’s vaguely aware of it when someone mentions holiday to him, or when images stare right back at him, like heart-shaped decorations clinging to street lights around Seoul or those obnoxious vendors convincing passersby to buy flowers and plush toys for loved ones. 

    Needless to say, he doesn’t celebrate it that much; never been too big on following festivities, which often led past crushes to be disappointed in him whenever he didn’t go that expected extra mile on Valentine’s Day, or White Day, or any of the ‘12 Love Days’ celebrated in Korea. 

    He doesn’t think they’re ridiculous or anything, he just...never had the full motivation, really, to get into something that could open some emotional floodgates he fails to handle with ease. So he’s sort of grown to stay detached from this, looking from afar and treating it with apathy. 

    There’s just something different about this year, though.

     He doesn’t realize this, but his knee is slightly bouncing up and down under the table, as if uneasy about something whilst brown eyes move left and right, staring at dear friend’s motions; how Patrick fetches something that looks like a cup as the faint sound of liquid boiling echoes through. Of course he’s treating this as another wonderful opportunity to see Patrick, his dear friend. One call is all it takes for the detective to come where the professor is, no matter what he’s doing; he’d drop everything to spend time with him, especially whilst knowing how constricted their schedules get at times. Any chance is a good chance to visit. 

    And if all these visits and encounters with his friend bring him ease, why is he feeling mildly troubled? Must be because of the weight in one of his pockets, one he now hesitates to have because he gained it on impulse. A hand slips inside blazer as fingers slowly touch what he’s been hiding since the beginning of this meeting, feeling the shape and silently scolding himself for bringing it with him. He shouldn’t have done this. What is he doing? He shouldn’t have---

   His thoughts are interrupted by the sight of Patrick approaching with a cup around his hands, Hyuk taking out his palm from where it was, as if something burned him and needed to get fingers out of the way before getting caught with flames. How ridiculous, Lee Hyuk. 

   The detective uses that palm to press it against gifted porcelain that’s gone pleasantly warm; unconsciously brushing fingertips with Patrick’s as thumb gets hooked onto mug’s ear, bringing the item closer to him.

    This definitely isn’t the usual tea; the scent is telling him so.     He looks down.     It’s chocolate. Hot chocolate. 

    Patrick speaks and as he does so, Hyuk feels in some vortex of confusion. He stares at the cup again, kind of double-checking that he’s seeing right, and then looks up to see the professor. Hyuk, attentive as he can be toward certain details, notices the little smile; the rather endearing hesitance, the...hand reaching out so nails can scratch cheek with a little disquiet. Why does Patrick seem...bashful? A little unsettled? 

    Must be because this is, indeed, different, isn’t it? The gesture, the way Patrick wishes Hyuk a Happy Valentine’s Day when they really...haven’t engaged in this before. Not with each other, at least; not when both are rigid when it comes to situations that could get...gooey. 

    They never had the need, really. Why show a friend you appreciate them in a particular day when you can demonstrate it through small details across different days? Besides, they’ve always had a sort of secret code when demonstrating fondness toward one another; a code the two of them fully understand, a code that goes beyond any kind of holiday.

    But this, this is...new. 

    “Thank---Thank you.” The bobbing of his leg dies down; clearing his throat. He wonders in silence, how Patrick used to celebrate this day before...well, painful disruption happened. The detective remembers the vague mentioning of Patrick and Felicity celebrating together, but he didn’t really ask anything beyond what his friend used to tell him; deeming the topic private. He won’t ask today, either. Everything at its own time, whenever words decide to naturally come out...if they ever. 

    Hyuk brings the mug to his lips, giving it the first sip. The scent is rich as is the taste; mellow and nice --- like a hug in a cup. He feels his insides getting warm and he wants to fully blame it on beverage’s temperature, yet he knows that the way Patrick fondly says his name always sends a wave of comfort all over him. “I didn’t know you could make a good cup of hot chocolate.” He decides to lightly tease as a distraction; one hand hiding his lips so he can lick them; getting rid of any trace of chocolate foam. “It’s...very nice.” He slowly puts both hand and cup down, deciding that if Patrick gave him a gift...he should do the same, right?

   “I, uh...” Finally, he takes that weight out of his blazer. It’s not even that heavy, just a small box with a bracelet inside, one made of knitted, dark green string with a Chrysanthemum knot. “This is...for you. There were many colors but I...thought this one was best. Suits...you.” Green, a color that means generosity, growth and safety; tranquility, reassurance --- restoration. Hyuk slowly slides the box Patrick’s way and then proceeds to take the cup of hot chocolate between his hands. 

    He doesn’t desperately gulp from it as a diversion, no. Hyuk wants to take his time with this, because Patrick took the time to make it, because this is a gift he utterly appreciates; one he’ll surely remember fondly. 

   “Happy Valentine’s Day, Dae-yah.”

When he hears the sirens, the Black Knight knows his cue to disappear. ANACHRON knows it’s their cue too, slipping back into the shadows, yet again. Dammit, he was so close too! And yet, his first instinct isn’t to run. But rather, when he realizes a certain detective is within the vicinity, ready to fight his way into the circle, the Black Knight's first instinct is to grab that detective’s hand and then run. Never mind the ache building in his leg or the protests on Hyuk’s part, the important part is that he gets Hyuk as far away from both ANACHRON and the police as possible. Hyuk might be familiar with the Gangnam Police, but even he cannot hope to get away without repercussion should they find out he shares a connection, however minuscule the thread is, to the Black Knight.

The Black Knight only stops once they’re in an alleyway. It’s in one of the more rundown parts of Itaewon, which is also where the Black Knight’s base is located ( Rook is not going to be happy- what if the detective starts poking around here too? ) .His leg is aching. And his side stings from a bullet graze. And yet he forces himself to stand tall, sword still unsheathed. The sound of metal dropping against the cobblestone barely registers.

“You really don’t listen, do you? Keep loitering around these spaces and you’ll be lucky to get out in one piece. Is that what your friend would want?”

Letting go of Hyuk’s hand ( they haven’t done that in years ), he turns away to make his escape, only to pause. Why does his vest pocket feel empty- panic floods in. Where is it? He couldn’t have dropped it, that’s never happened before, and- the Black Knight whirls around.

It’s Hyuk, picking up his POCKET WATCH, the one Felicity gave Patrick all those years ago.

Patrick’s stomach drops.

And without thinking, he lunges forward, snatching his watch out of his dear friend’s hands. The watch dangling between the two of them, Patrick stares at Hyuk in bewilderment. And fear. Hands shaky, he shoves it back into his coat pocket. Patrick turns away.

“You’re lucky this time. Next time, I’ll stab you.”

    Sirens roar and even its incessant bellow is not enough to push him away from the scene. It should, shouldn’t it? After all, he’s been nothing but a menace to the police, who already have sent him away previous times with a warning (as well as with long, tired sighs from the detective currently handling the cases Hyuk would officially and legally take care of, once upon a time). Tickets of caution can only last for so long and one day he’ll face the real danger by being dragged behind bars for obstruction and suspicious activity. No matter how careless Hyuk’s gotten now, he cannot afford to go to jail, for that’s precious time he cannot waste by simply counting the days until a release. All minutes, seconds --- they should be dedicated to find out the truth.

   The truth about his best friend’s death.

    Still, he takes a step forward, toward the smoke; swirls that seem all too familiar at this point. There are spots of dirt on the detective’s skin, as well as cuts that might heal if he lets them be; a victim of his own heedlessness. The adrenaline in his veins does not let him feel the exhaustion, or the way the open wound on his forehead burns. He steps into the fog and as he tries to adjust his vision, he’s unexpectedly yanked by a gloved hand. 

   His first instinct is to tug back, but his palm is well-adhered to the other’s fingers, as if knowing he’d fight back. A frown; long legs unwillingly bend toward this uncharted territory whilst trying to see who has him under their grasp. 

   He’d recognize that top hat anywhere.     The all-black attire.     The high collar of his coat.     The sword shining under the bashful moonlight. 

   “Yah, let me go! Let me go!”

    But the Black Knight won’t relent, will he? Oddly enough, that’s something they both share: Thick stubbornness. While one pushes, the other tugs...but, ironically enough, they keep colliding onto the same paths; onto the same places. 

     Growls of protest echo through, gaze registering the surroundings. What is this place? It looks dilapidated, with paint peeling off the walls and buildings resembling an ancient world long forgotten. A rundown neighborhood, a side of town not many would care to look at. It seems the Black Knight is aware of desolated spots, for he walks as if he’s utterly familiar with the surroundings. Not even him, who’s well-versed in pinpointing several streets due to years of patrolling and case-chasing, would think about heading to this place. 

     Why did he take them there?      Is it a simple detour, or should it mean something?      Hyuk cannot allow any details to slip away. 

     “I’ll break your arm if I have to, is that what you want? Because I will break---” 

     Finally, fingers get harshly unlatched from the strange warmth of cloaked hand when the Black Knight loosens his grip. Hand turns into a fist, nostrils flare at the unwanted scolding, jaw tensing at the mention of his friend. 

     “What do you care, huh? Who do you think you are? Stop using my friend as an excuse to make me reconsider. He’s not here anymore. The one who used to think things over isn’t here either.” 

     Pieces of him decayed when Patrick passed away, like a sunflower that no longer has the sun by its side, or a shrub of forsythias losing its color because the healthy Earth has open cracks of dryness; wounds that remain and never really close. Parts of Hyuk died when his best friend did, or perhaps they’re deeply buried somewhere he blocked from memory so he’d never find them. After all, the one who could retrieve them is no longer living, so why would Hyuk want them? 

     “You don’t listen either. I told you to never come back again with your warnings and needless advice, remember? So why do you keep---” 

      He, indeed, does not let any details slip.       His ears take note of a sound; a descent.       Metal colliding upon cobblestone.       Once shy, the moonlight becomes stronger in that alleyway.       It guides him, lets him know there’s something on the floor.        A watch. 

     Silence. The detective bends down; catches watch’s circular body with his palm and thumb; chain feeling heavy between his fingers. He stands up and some of his steps falter when keeping his gaze glued at the item --- not because he’s not watching where he’s going, but because he knows this watch. The details on the tightly shut cover, they look worn, as if fingers kept rubbing and grazing to the point of getting edges blurry, but they’re still there, staring back at him. 

     Patrick’s watch. The one Felicity gave him years ago. This one and his dear friend’s look exactly the same. The only difference is that the one on his hand has suffered due to the hands of time...but the same thing would’ve happened to Patrick’s watch if he was still alive, wouldn’t it? All items, no matter how precious, start to show signs of wear after years of usage. Much like the mandarin duck plush he still keeps somewhere in his apartment. 

     Eyes lifting, he sees the Black Knight’s back. His hand tightens around the watch. And he remembers, he remembers he couldn’t find Patrick’s pocket watch under all the rubble when he went to London to see the chaos himself. He remembers that the evidence never showed any pictures of that watch, not even signs or traces of charred metal or clock’s hands and numbers bent by the merciless waves of fire. He also remembers that this was one of the factors Suki considered suspicious when Hyuk commented about it. 

    And if this is, indeed, Patrick’s watch, how did it end up here?     In South Korea.      Under the Black Knight’s shadow. 

  Speechless, he witnesses the vigilante suddenly whirling around. He’s forgotten something, hasn’t he? The watch is still on Hyuk’s hand, but he’s too stunned to react quickly; his own fingers trembling as palm shows the other what he’s found. 

   “How?” 

   But he gets no answer. Not a verbal one, at least. The watch sternly departs from his grasp; gazes locking. Is the confident brown of those eyes hesitating? Is the smug Black Knight scared? The detective is trying to learn as much as he can, even if the high collar of the other’s coat doesn’t let him see if lips are twitching or not, even if the mask might cover a widened expression. His eyes. Hyuk’s slowly learning to decipher them.

    And the Black Knight’s hands. They seem unstable.

   “Where did you get that watch?” 

   Hyuk reaches out, tries to stop the vigilante from leaving, but his hand only catches air. 

   “No, no, you have to---where did you get it?!” 

  The detective starts to run after him, but it seems the vision of the watch causes him to have a million and one thoughts; a trigger of a lack of balance. His hand lands on a brick wall; jog halts.

    He starts to get flashbacks of Patrick showing him the watch for the first time.      His face of happiness when he says that Felicity gave it to him. The love of his life.     He remembers the times Patrick takes the watch out of his pocket, just to fondly stare at it.     A precious memory of someone he unfairly lost.     He takes note of the echoes of his voice, and they seem so near, yet so far.      Like he’s watching all of this through the grainy screen of a television.

    A groan; dizziness kicks in. He presses one side of his body to the wall, breathing in and out. This isn’t the time to disconnect from the world, Lee Hyuk. Everything around him looks blurry; the wound on his forehead starts to remind him of pain. He slowly slides down in an attempt to sit down, gather his senses so he can at least return to the office without a hassle. 

    Jae-Hwan and Suki must not know about this.      They might suspect something is going on already, though.     He up and left without saying anything, like he usually does.     That doesn’t mean they don’t worry...they always do. 

    The fire. The charred wood; the strong scent of burnt.      Whoever started it knew what they were doing.     Nakamura’s voice invades his head now.     They wanted you to think the fire was accidental.

     I couldn’t find any signs of his watch. Why? He kept that watch with him at all times.

     All the models of watches in existence, and the Black Knight had to have that one. A pocket watch, nonetheless. Something that a lot of people don’t use frequently these days. 

     God, he has to stop thinking.       He closes his eyes. 

     The last thing he sees is the distant and distorted view of a battered clock tower.

💋 How many people has my muse slept with?

What makes me weep about this question is that if you were to ask Reaper this, he’ll tell you that he’s slept with Kim Shin before but that’s because he’s taking the question literally --- as in, with whomst he’s slept with on the same bed or the same room, no spicy shenanigans included, just sleeping--- LMAO WEIDHWEIDHUEH BUT TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION IN A SERIOUS WAY: Within his life as a Reaper I don’t think he’s slept with anyone. This is because of the innocence and naivety he tends to carry, as well as how careful he is when it comes to touch. So, in this sense, I believe Reaper is a virgin, someone who hasn’t really delved in these kind of experiences yet.  However, as a King, in the life he doesn’t remember (yet), I think things were a little different. I’m not really talking about his marriage during youth, because both Sun and Yeo were getting to know each other (and slowly but surely falling for one another) before the whole tragedy happened. I’m talking more about the time after he lost everyone who once loved him without him fully knowing he was loved (since he was blinded by jealousy and the manipulation of his advisor).  The show doesn’t tell us a lot about the time passed between seventeen-year-old Yeo and Yeo as an adult --- we just see him all grown up and still dragging that heaviness of regret, to the point of wishing to end his own life. They don’t show us what happened during all those years, from seventeen to his thirties, which is...well, a long time, all things considered. SO I THINK THAT, perhaps, during his twenties, he tried to find ways to bury this compunction; attempted to seek for distractions and continue his life as a royal, leading him to maybe engage in some dalliances that in the end didn’t really fill the vast emptiness in his soul.  SORRY, I RAMBLED IWUEHDUWHED, BASICALLY as a Reaper he hasn’t slept with anyone, but during his life as a King I’d like to believe that he did sleep with a few people before realizing that he simply couldn’t move on.

FRANKLY, REAPER HERE IS JUST?? SO PURE that such a thought hasn’t even crossed his mind --- I think his thoughts are mostly filled with his job and colorful straws and trying to find out how to continue a conversation without being too awkward or suspicious IUHWEIUDHED; he’s too busy trying to figure out the world and guiding souls that the notion of sleeping with someone in particular hasn’t really invaded his head.  BUT ALL IN ALL...Reaper would sleep with someone he’s in love with, someone he adores without measure; someone who makes him feel comfortable enough to pursue this line, someone he wishes to be close with, without the need to be careful about his touch gathering a collection of flashbacks. Whether nobody ever had to know or the contrary, he’d still go with that. 

💝 Does my muse like Valentine’s Day?

He does (absolutely willing to gift things to loved ones in this day, even if he might be a little clumsy with his selection and way of gifting something; he’s trying his best, though--), but he also gets a little jealous whenever he witnesses lovey-dovey things that he thinks he can’t have because of who he is 😂. There’s this wish to belong at times, to be able to live like other people does; a kind of longing. REGARDLESS of the evanescent pouting, he ends up enjoying the holiday and finds joy in seeing others celebrating it freely.

daisy :   did your muse ever feel as though their innocence had been lost ?   what moment in their life could be described as the end of their innocence ?  

I think, in Reaper’s case, his innocence was stolen at a young age, when he was forced to become King after the death of his father and older brother. His innocence was cut short, obligated to mature like a fruit that’s ripped away too soon from the tree it’s growing from. He had to deal with sensitive topics and make important decisions when he was just a little boy so, in a sense, the end of his innocence started when the crown was placed upon his head. However, I believe that his innocence was brought back when he became a Grim Reaper. This has been...one of the blessings of his punishment. When given a second chance, his mind started as a blank canvas, with no past memories to hold onto, but eventually gained roots and branches and flowers out of his training as an Angel of Death and the world surrounding him. In this phase, he didn’t exactly grow as a human (as in, let’s say, he was raised by other grim reapers and soul curators; superiors whose only job is to explain the nature he has and what he can do with it) so the way he learns things that are outside of his expertise as a Grim Reaper is preciously naive. He knows where souls go when they die but he gasps when colorant is added to batter or gelatin; he’s in touch with death but widens his eyes with genuine innocence when you place a new device upon pallid hands.  As a Grim Reaper, his innocence hasn’t ended. And it doesn’t really end, even when he eventually finds out who he really is. Of course, the weight is heavier on his shoulders, and we can see him acquire this wonderful maturity when he understands why things are the way they are; when he learns about full forgiveness, when he comprehends the real lesson behind his role as Saja. But the childish wonder still lives with him. 

holly :   how strong is your muse’s sense of intuition ?  are they aware of it ?   do they ever fear that it is only paranoia ?  

When it comes to matters of death, Reaper’s intuition is very strong. He understands immediately; gets a tight grasp of it and can explain this without hesitation. He is, indeed, aware of this; knows that the concept of demise and his presence are now interconnected and he has to play a role once the final exit of someone happens. Reaper can tell when others have experienced death, directly or indirectly; senses the aura. Since this is something that comes in the package when becoming an Angel of Death, he doesn’t fear it; doesn’t believe it’s paranoia. It’s just another ability of his.  HOWEVER, when it comes to other things, his sense of intuition is poor. I don’t even think he fully understands what a gut feeling is IWHDWIUEDH; my son’s compass is unstable when dealing with possible hunches and does not know what’s going on most of the time, please help him-----in this sense, he can think it’s paranoia or panic kicking in; could even have dramatic moments about this 😂

poppy :   what comforts your muse ?

Being in the company of people he’s fond of (getting to hear them, see them; know that they’re there, really brings him comfort, especially when he’s down), making people smile through random acts of kindness, straws, his favorite shows; when souls he guides seem to be at ease and comfortable when opening the door and climbing up the stairs to their next life; sitting next to a window as he watches people exist whilst drinking an iced americano with a straw. He also gets very comforted when his loved ones say nice things about him, when they reassure him in moments of doubt (because he does have these spaces where he focuses too much on all of it being a punishment, him being a sinner, etc.).

It’s late in the precinct. Almost everyone’s leaving --- save for Hyuk, of course. The funny thing is, he’s not exactly focused on reading files or flipping through case’s pages tonight. His eyes are staring at a page full of scribbles and drawings; letters that would seem randomly arranged to anyone who’s not familiar with the task he’s pursuing. Index finger loosely taps on his desk, when the sudden ping of a received text message makes him turn and grab cellphone as soon as possible.

He reads the text. The answer he sent is wrong. He has to try again.  

“Aish!”

Frustrated, he drops the phone back on desk’s corner and sighs; returning to the scribble-filled sheet.

There’s a knock on a door that’s open already.

“Tough case to crack?”

Says a colleague, making themselves known as they enter the vast office with several desks; curious eyes peering onto what he’s doing.

“---------something like that. Isn’t time for you to leave? What are you still doing here, do you need something?”

“What the hell are those drawings?”

“Yah, mind your own business, huh? I’m just trying to solve a puzzle here.”

“A puzzle? The ones your special friend sends you?”

“Special friend?”

“Oh, c’mon, detective Lee. We all know how he’s priority---”

This is when Hyuk stands up from his seat, defiant; looking even more intimidating due to his height.

“And? What’s it to you, huh? Don’t you all have better things to do than gossip around? Do I ever say something about your personal life? No, right, then why should you stick your nose in mine? Like I said, mind your own business. Now, leave me alone, this puzzle is already pissing me off, you don’t need to add fuel to that.”

He dials Patrick’s phone number for the nth time, hoping this time he’ll pick up. (Beep, beep, beep---) He doesn’t.  (The number you dialed is not available to receive your call---)

Worry twists around his stomach. He hasn’t received updates from him in a while and it’s concerning, especially after the last news he gave him. God, he promised Patrick he wouldn’t be so impulsive as to catch a flight over there, but seeing that communication has dwindled, he can’t help but think that he might break said promise. Just this one. 

(Leave a voicemail after the tone.)

“Patrick, it’s me again. Why aren’t you answering my calls? Not even my text messages. Is something going on? Did something go wrong? I swear, if you don’t answer in the next eight hours, I’m going over there. I know I promised I wouldn’t, but what am I supposed to do if I don’t know how you’re doing? I can’t sit still with folded arms waiting, you know this (sigh). Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you---I don’t need elaborate details, I just...need to know you’re okay. Call me or text me when you’re able to, please.”

They’ve had a few drinks under the roof of his apartment; a mixture of Soju and Makgeolli, merely because those were the only two lonesome bottles Hyuk managed to find at the end of his fridge and cabinets. They’re both empty now; glasses and bowls sitting on the low table. He doesn’t mind about dirty dishes right now, he’ll wash them later; preferring to stand up and walk barefoot toward the living room. 

Hyuk sits down on the floor, pressing his back against the couch. Amusing it is, to sit there instead of choosing to sit on furniture that’s currently supporting his spine...but he likes wooden surface better. He stretches his arms and yawns a little. Patrick’s gone elsewhere --- to the restroom, he said. A few minutes pass by before he hears the sound of lazy feet dragging themselves across the floor, making Hyuk turn toward noise’s direction.

There he comes, his dear friend. But he looks...a little looser? Tipsier than Hyuk; red cheeks, rolled up sleeves and all. Maybe he should’ve reminded him that Soju is stronger than the average beers they have back in London.

“Patrick?” 

Hyuk can only see a little smile dancing on friend’s lips before he comes to sit down next to him, right on the floor. Oh, this surely takes them back to the old times, doesn’t it? When they’d sit on library’s floor and would study for finals; when tea would be mixed with cans of Red Bull as to keep themselves awake --- a trick Hyuk’s sure Patrick still applies in the present. 

Just like old times. Except...except. 

Patrick’s head suddenly falls on Hyuk’s shoulder.  He can hear a sigh. He hopes it’s one of relief.  And his arm...is he...hooking it around his? Like a hug, in a way. 

“Patrick,” 

his heart suddenly begins to pound erratically against his chest; pulses reaching his ears. See, Hyuk could’ve scolded Patrick, show his usual, grumpy side and shove him to a side; tell him to lean on the couch instead but...he...doesn’t want to.

Instead, his free hand lifts, gently patting Patrick’s cheek.

“Are you okay? Are you...?”

He looks down, managing to see Patrick’s eyes closing. Is he falling asleep?  Knowing how hard it is for Patrick to sleep...he shouldn’t try to move him away, should he? It wouldn’t be nice.

The detective breathes out, initial stiffness due to suddenness of motions slowly fading away. The hand on Patrick’s cheek hesitatingly climbs to the top of his friend’s head; carefully trying to caress his hair. It’s...soft.
