Her Universe

Galaxy, anyone??? ;)

I have always been fascinated by subjects related to galaxy because of its mystery beauty. I have created some artwork inspired by this subject before and I do believe this piece won't be the last one.

One day I came across this writing of Suzy Kaseem which resonated so much with me and urged me to create a new painting: “Everybody has a little bit of the sun and moon in them. Everybody has a little bit of man, woman, and animal in them. Darks and lights in them. Everyone is part of a connected cosmic system. Part earth and sea, wind and fire, with some salt and dust swimming in them. We have a universe within ourselves that mimics the universe outside. None of us are just black or white, or never wrong and always right. No one. No one exists without polarities. I wanted to create a universe within the woman, carrying all of her in depth mysteries, being hidden inside but also can be burning brightly, collapsing into sparkling stars like how galaxies are made for billions of years. That's the woman who has both universe within and universe outside.

Having that idea juggling in my mind, I started thinking about the composition, colors, etc. As usual, I love painting fashion items in my artwork and this time I think the Gold semi-hoop earrings from Y/Project is the "bliss point" enhancing the curving rhythm of the girl's neck subtly, creating the flow from her head to her shoulder without conflicting with her galactic hair.

Ai thích thiên hà không??? ;)

Mình luôn bị các chủ đề liên quan đến thiên hà hấp dẫn bởi vẻ đẹp bí ẩn của nó. Mình đã vẽ một vài tranh lấy cảm hứng từ chủ đề này và mình tin đây sẽ không phải là bức cuối cùng về nó.

Một ngày tình cờ mình đọc được một đoạn trích trong cuốn "Rise Up and Salute the Sun" được viết bởi Suzy Kaseem, lược dịch là: “Ai cũng có một chút mặt trời và mặt trăng trong mình. Ai cũng có phần đàn ông, phần đàn bà và phần động vật; có những phần đen tối và có phần ánh sáng trong mình. Ai cũng là một phần trong hệ thống của vụ trụ được kết nối liên thông. Ai cũng có phần của đất, của biển cả, của gió, của lửa với chút muối, chút bụi ngụp lặn trong cơ thể mình. Chúng ta có vũ trụ bên trong mô phỏng chính vũ trụ bên ngoài của ta. Không ai trong chúng ta chỉ là trắng hay đen, không ai là luôn luôn đúng hay không bao giờ sai. Không ai. Không ai tồn tại mà không có những thái cực đối lập nhau. Ai cũng có những lực lượng tốt và xấu ủng hộ hay chống lại mình, hoạt động trong chính bản thân mình". Những gì cô ấy viết khiến mình cảm nhận được sự đồng điệu sâu sắc và thôi thúc mình vẽ tác phẩm mới.

Mình muốn vẽ một vũ trụ bên trong người phụ nữ nơi chứa đựng tất cả những bí ẩn thâm sâu nhất của nàng. Nó được giấu kín bên trong nhưng cũng có thể cháy sáng chói lòa rồi vỡ vụn thành từng mảnh sao lấp lánh như cách những dải ngân hà đã được hình thành từ hàng triệu năm qua. Đó là người phụ nữ có cả vũ trụ bên trong lẫn vũ trụ bên ngoài.

Từ ý tưởng đó mình đã xây dựng bố cục, màu sắc, vv...Như thường lệ, mình rất thích vẽ những món đồ thời trang trong tranh của mình. Lần này mình nghĩ, việc đưa thêm vào chiếc khuyên tai của Y/Project đã tạo ra "điểm cân bằng", nó nhấn vào nhịp điệu đường cong trên cổ của cô gái một cách tinh tế, tạo ra chuyển động từ đầu đến vai nàng nhưng không hề tranh chấp với mái tóc được vẽ với hiệu ứng đặc biệt.

Rose's Tears

I created "Rose's tears" at Hanoi Art connecting international exhibition/ workshop 4 in mid October 2019. Just in case you've never heard about it: Hanoi Art connecting is an annual art event organized by Asia Art link to connect local and international artists. This year, there were 140 artists coming from all over the world, creating artwork in 4 different categories: ceramic, sculpture, printmaking and painting.

A few days before the workshop, I saw Giambattista Valli Spring 2020 Ready-to-Wear collection dedicated to flower theme which is beautifully dynamically shown in different techniques from embroideries, printed patterns, laces, structured ruffles and pleats to accessories. However, what impressed me the most in this collection was makeup looks made with freshly cut flowers, framing models' eyes with soft delicate petals. Thus, I decided to use it as an inspiration source to create my painting.

To me, rose is a contradictory flower- it has all the beauty and fragrance which are world wide praised in different cultures but going along with that undeniable beauty are thorns which can hurt anyone trying to touch it. Everything has 2 sides, every person is the whole package of the good and the bad, of the weakness and the strength, of the joy and the unhappiness, etc. You never know what really lies underneath the surface. This makes life more interesting, less judgmental and more tolerant.

Mình đã vẽ "Rose's tears" tại triển lãm/ workshop quốc tế Hanoi Art Connecting 4. Đây là một sự kiện nghệ thuật thường niên được tổ chức bởi Asia Art link nhằm kết nối các nghệ sỹ địa phương và quốc tế. Năm nay, Hanoi Art Connecting có 140 nghệ sỹ đến từ khắp các quốc gia trên thế giới tham gia sáng tác trong bốn hạng mục: Gốm, điêu khắc, printmaking và hội họa.

Một vài ngày trước workshop, mình đã xem bộ sưu tập xuân hè 2020 của nhà mốt Giambattista Valli. Chủ đề hoa lá được thể hiện xuyên suốt trong bộ sưu tập một cách uyển chuyển đẹp mắt bằng những kỹ thuật khác nhau từ thêu, in vải, ren, các cấu trúc bèo nhún và xếp ly đến các phụ kiện. Tuy nhiên điều khiến mình ấn tượng hơn cả là cách các cô người mẫu được trang điểm với hoa tươi, tạo điểm nhấn cho đôi mắt bằng những cánh hoa mềm mại tinh tế. Chính vì thế mình đã quyết định lấy nó làm nguồn cảm hứng sáng tác cho tranh của mình.

Với mình, hoa hồng luôn là loài hoa rất mâu thuẫn- Vẻ đẹp và mùi hương quyến rũ của nó được ca tụng trong rất nhiều nền văn hóa khác nhau trên toàn thế giới nhưng song hành cùng với vẻ đẹp không thể phủ nhận ấy là những cái gai có thể làm đau bất kì ai cố gắng chạm đến nó. Mọi thứ đều có 2 mặt, mỗi con người đều là tổ hợp của rất nhiều thứ trái ngược nhau song song tồn tại trong cùng một cơ thể như cái tốt và cái xấu, như sự mềm yếu và sức mạnh, như niềm vui và nỗi bất hạnh, vv..., không có ai là hoàn hảo. Bạn không bao giờ thực sự biết điều gì ẩn giấu sâu trong mỗi con người. Điều đó làm cuộc sống này thú vị hơn, bớt phán xét đi và nhiều khoan dung hơn.
