earlier this year I started writing a comic about the siege perilous-grail quest situation after finally finishing the didot perceval, and it started circling around kay and perceval. kay as gatekeeper, taboo anxiety vs chivalry, and perceval not doing things "correctly," arthur's enduring affection for kay. that general area. also the horror of the grail quest itself.

this is comic is part of that narrative arc, so with THAT in mind: this is an abridged scene of a longer arc revolving around kay associating camelot with a cage, perceval's associations with jewelry and knighthood and the color red, and arthur's relationship with kay.

[some other scene context: perceval has injured his hand and can't participate in the tournaments, so he's craving some kind of fight. kay is disinterested in replying to this challenge, but he's not above reminding perceval of their first meeting. it's just mean enough in a weird-intimate kind of way that perceval's like, ok so we're doing the antagonistic version of court romance rituals. he picks up hunting because kay can't leave the castle.]

anyway! to close out all this out: the transgressions. incredible! what is camelot but a bunch of transgressions stacked on top of each other tbh.

So, in PIDW, there was obviously wife plots that could bring back the dead (mushroom body being one of them), and since we know Airplane is a hack that reuses concepts over and over, there’s probably multiple wife plots that could work, so like, where’s the PIDW fics where Liu Qingge somehow comes back to life, memories of Shen Jiu trying to save him intact, and goes to hunt the asshole down so he can repay his life debt, and along the way accidentally clears Shen Jiu’s name of all his crimes and now everyone is convinced Shen Qingqiu is a saint.

#I’m imagining this being around the time of the trial arc where lbh has sqq in the water prison and has probably already started his torture #maybe sqq is physically crippled after this or maybe lqg goes on a quest to get him a mushroom body either way it’ll be so much angst!!#sqq deserves to not be tortured okay?? because while child abuse isn’t okay neither is the cycle of abuse and also? john and arthur's relationship development is so funny to me. they start out hating each other's guts and both of their biggest goals is to get the fuck away from each other. but then they go through the horrors together and are now hopelessly codependent to the point where they both cant even CONSIDER losing the other. and they also killed several people and ate at least one guy along the way

it is funny though how kids' shows are so so so careful about death, no one's ever killed except MAYYYYBE the big bad, all those random side characters are fine, here have a quick shot of them before we leave just so you know they really did survive that 50-foot drop into a stormy sea,

and meanwhile kids' books nearly all agree that it's not an adventure until it has a body count.

#to be clear I don't mean the heroes killing people #that's frankly a separate question #but bad guys come with collateral damage #even if they're nameless extras who are never described as more than a body in the street #and quite often the friends the hero meets along the way #will not all make it to the end #edit: actually I do also mean the heroes killing people #atla being so so so careful to show random mooks surviving and having the fire nation take prisoners all the time #vs animorphs going 'yeah we kill people. yeah we've got ptsd. what of it'#vs that one vivian vande velde book I read where the protagonist is really really stressed #about creeping up on a mook with a rock to bash him on the head #bc *what if she kills him?* she's just a teenager she doesn't know how brain trauma works she doesn't want to be a murderer #to be clear animorphs and this book are on the same page
