My Two Cents:

Romeo - Juliet meet Arnav - Khushi and learn how it's done in this epic saga of Mafia Romance written with a pen that always gives me the warm fuzzies each time I read it! Seriously, this is one of my comfort reads! <3 <3 <3

Arnav Singh Raizada as a powerful Mafia Lord? Yes please!

Arnav Singh Raizada who is able to break someone's wrist, (without breaking a sweat, might I add) just because they tried to touch Khushi inappropriately? Please and Thanks!

Khushi Ranjan Vaghela returning home for good after three years equals Arnav Singh Raizada pursuing her, relentlessly, much to her consternation. Because Khushi is nothing, if not non-confrontational!

Khushi's devoted brother Akash and Arnav's rivalry aside, Khushi has no delusions to why Arnav is bad news for her. Her father has left behind a legacy of revenge, animosity, and bloodshed. And Khushi has no intentions to add to that list. Or be the reason for either of their deaths.

However, if there is one thing Khushi cannot convince Arnav of, is that she doesn't love him anymore. And since she is the only thing Arnav Singh Raizada has to live for, (after achieving his life goal of avenging his mother that is), Arnav has no intentions of giving her up!

The story-telling is superb, the plot-twists are engaging and the fic/book keeps you hooked to the very end to tell a story of childhood sweethearts who have had it rough. This possessive, brutal, but all heart -when it comes to Khushi- Arnav hooked me in and didn't let go until I read and re-read this story over and over again! Khushi for all her faults, is someone you cannot help but cry for. And yet, her bravery and resilience will leave you in awe!

Terminal ilness harukai au when

(Haruka that’s 27 and murai that’s 30 live together. Murai is a tattoo artist with a fear of medical needles and haruka is both an art historian and an art curator assistant at the insistence at the said art curator. They met when Haruka wa still in university through the tattoo studio (haruka got a bunch of piercings and some tattoos by murai). He has 2 jobs bcs they plan on moving out and buying their own place and Yakumo’s tattoo artist licence isn’t as strong as Haruka’s office job for the bank loan. So he sacrifices more of his free time, of his time to spend with yakumo, or to paint on his own (because he likes to paint) for more money.

Maybe i should mention it here, but Yakumo in this au (i made this up last autumn or so when we didn’t have his backstory) is from a small island close to tokyo, more like a village boy, and haruka was quite well off with parents that were both teachers (one math the other one chemistry), his sisters were also in good fields (eldes was a writer, 2nd a bussineswoman and the youngest a biology student), and they never judged him for pursuing art.

At the start of the story (late august) haruka gets to work on a project to bring the helene kroller muller’s van gogh collection to japan (this did happen, that’s why there are blp x van gogh goodies), only that at the same time one of his workmates gets pregnant. So as the time passes haruka gets more work, bcs at some point the pregnant woman has to go on maternity leave. And you know, he starts to lose weight, although the blood works are fine, there’s nothing abnormal. But he loses weight, and he gets more tired, he can’t even climb the stairs to their 3rd floor apartment anymore (he takes the lift) but he also works late nights and he starts to miss sleep so it must be it. Even if he tried to go to sleep sometimes he can’t fall asleep. Yeah, this must be the work. But quitting isn’t an option because he really does want to bring to life that van gogh exposition (i dont think there’s any van gogh in japan) and soon they’d be able to get that loan and everything will be fine.

However, even his personality does change, he’s more irritable, he doesn’t take some stuff as seriously as he should. And this leads to a few fights with yakumo that gets hurt in the process. As if his lover is becoming someone else he didn’t yet know.

And then one day something does happen. And they go to the doctor for something more than just a regular check up. One person shouldn’t miss this much sleep or forget as many details if there isn’t something wrong, right?

The thing is, it takes a while for the doctors to find the exact cause for him. Mainly because it’s a rare malady, you don’t think abt it right off the bat, again it could’ve been just work burn out, no matter how good of a doctor you are stuff sometimes misses you (this is for fiction but please the real life specialists do know their job well most of the time). And when that answer comes, maybe it was better to not know

CJD, spoiler alert, it’s a fatal disease, there’s no cure for it. Once you’re diagnosed you know you’re gonna die. What the fuck, Haruka was still very much young… At this point, Haruka’s state was quite poor, obviously he had to quit his jobs, what good to work when you’re gonna die anyway? However, it wasn’t as easy as that, because Haruka couldn’t finish the preparation for the exposition he so wanted to see happen. He had to go to the hospital without even seeing any of the painting in real life. He quit and started to focus more on something he wanted more time for: to paint on his own, to create his own paintings, not research others’, be his own creator. Be an artist. And again, considering his state he couldn’t stay at home much longer, he needed medical care. (Sporadic Cjd is a rapid disease)

Despite that haruka was in a care centrum, he couldn’t spend all his time there with him. He still had to work, because if you don’t work you don’t have survival money. What a stupid thing, right? You can’t spend your time with the one that’s soon not going be there anymore because of such a frugal thing as money… fuck it….

It was around the middle of january when haruka went to the hospital. It was cold and he was supposed to stay in bed most of the time because it could affend him and speed the disease. One evening, after work, yakumo opened the door, and Haruka just couldn’t recognise him. “Who are you?” He’d ask, and maybe this is what made Yakumo realise he is indeed losing his other one.

There’s beauty in the snow, in that wintery loneliness. Haruka wanted to touch the snow. Yakumo didn’t allow it.

When his birthday came, he was but the ghost of a person he used to be. He couldn’t walk, he was using a trolley pushed by someone else to move around. Heck, he couldn’t even hold his brushes to paint anymore.

Spring came too, the snow melted, and seeing Haruka like that made Yakumo feel guilty. Haruka couldn’t recognise anyone that clearly, it would take him long moments until something inside his brain would light up and even longer until his body responded accordingly. Maybe he should’ve allowed him to play with the snow back then. He would die anyway. At this point it was just a matter of time until that day would come…

No matter how much you prepare for it, it always comes when you least expect it. Just another day on the job, another client, another tattoo. However, his phone rings and he wishes he wouldn’t have replied, it would’ve given him a few more moments of blissful ignorance

Haruka’s older sister called. Yakumo was already on his way to the hospital. It was the end. Haruka was no more and he couldn’t even be there for him in that moment…

But then he’d return home, to the same place he has lived with Haruka for years. The same appartement on the 3rd floor, quite spacious and in a nice neighbourhood. He has to give it up now.

(It’s too expensive for one person, but how fucked up it is to not be able to process your lover’s death bcs of such financial difficulties?))

This is a speed run summary of something i was thinking abt last year for 30k words. Cjd could advance quicker than this too.

The context for this is when Georgia & Mac seek out the Railroad, of which Mac is not a fan (thinks they're getting themselves into more trouble trying to solve their other troubles, plus he's not too huge on synths either from his in-game dialogue). I haven't written this far ahead yet, but this part played out so specifically in my mind I had to put it down so I didn't forget it lol. Some version of it will probably end up in the fic proper even if not as explicitly romantic, depending on pacing. the vibes r there tho

the fact that tsubasa yamaguchi wrote a shounen ai oneshot in 2016 (about a year before the first chapter of blue period was released) about two boys that, not have weirdly similar personalities to yotasuke and yatora, but also make plans to go to a karaoke place. they never end up going because of something important that happens (not gonna say what bc of spoilers), but what if yamaguchi just remembered that those two never went on that date so she just put yatoyota in their place so that at least some of her other little gays could go on that awkward karaoke date.

ok a bit of a small rant but the way the blp fandom talks about some of the parents that we've been introduced to (namely yota's mom, shouya's mom and sae's dad) annoys me slightly. not that these characters shouldn't be criticised, because they obviously show some pretty bad parenting towards their kids, and I'm definitely not trying to argue in their defense or anything like that. the thing is that these parents aren't abusive monsters that deserve to get beat up, and they don't need to be that to be able to hurt their kids, which they've done. I appreciate Blue Period for giving us realistic examples of how bad parenting can affect negatively the children it's directed to without having the parents be the sometimes over the top evil that for some reason have it out for their kids. That type of abuse can be a real thing but there are also other more nuanced ways in which a parent can, sometimes even unknowingly, seriously hurt their kids. shit parenting doesn't always have to be in the form of a tragic backstory so the audience can all hate this one person to still be shit parenting. kinda blowing this out of proportion but yeahh...we can still curse them out without being too extreme about it folks.

georgiamac brainrot under the cut. y'all know how it is.

1. this gun for hire

ohhh maccready. you're much more than that and you've got a big storm coming.

2. just here for the paycheck

which is what he tries to tell himself in the beginning. he does think georgia's dedication to the minutemen is a bit silly, a lot more morally righteous and "do no harm" than he's used to (little does he know that georgia is a "do no harm but take no shit" kind of person), but she pays well, she's consistent, and keeps it fair.

3. calling someone by their last name is the best way to flirt, actually

georgia almost exclusively refers to him by his last name, so this comes into play a little more once she allows herself to be a little flirty.

4. a ship dynamic that's less of an "italicized 'oh' moment" and more of an "italicized 'ah fuck' moment"

this is pretty much mac's reaction once he realizes he's got it bad for georgia. it snuck up on him and when it's finally staring him in the face he is very distressed by it for multiple reasons. he worries if it'll change things between them, feels a little guilty upon realizing he's slowly moving on after lucy, and fears that georgia won't return the feelings...

5. yes yes i do like you. i am afraid to write the stronger word.

...so he represses them. his "oh i never thought about that" line in his romance in this instance basically means "i wouldn't let myself think about that." on georgia's end, she's got all sorts of mixed up feelings thanks to how her relationship with nate went. is she allowed to move on? should she even be worrying about this when she's trying to find her son? she can't keep her emotions hidden for very long, but she'll allude to them in this case.

6. when i'm with you the line between 'friends' and 'lovers' blurs and i don't care which side i end up on as long as you'll have me

their whole relationship can be squarely defined as friend to lovers. potential spoilers for BLP, but i don't have them planning to outright tell each other their feelings until right before georgia goes to the institute for the first time (subject to change, but probably not). so they have a looooot of time in that will-they-won't-they area, both afraid to make the first move, but knowing that whichever way it goes, they still want to be at each other's sides.

7. i don't know. i mean, we're two sides of the same coin, right?

there it is ! one of my favorite lines in his romance. both are widowed parents trying to do right by their kids while also trying to survive by themselves at the same time. even before they get to know each other, without even knowing, they already understand what the other is going through.

8. please never leave / where would i go without you?

mac basically says it out right, we know he hates being alone, so once he and georgia get close and develop feelings, he really doesn't like being away from her if he can help it. really, he's worried something bad will happen to the one person in the commonwealth that took a chance on him who he's already invested so many feelings into. for georgia, she already decided long ago that mac was her partner (in the platonic sense of the word, to start) and she doesn't see herself going anywhere without him. she wouldn't want anyone else by her side.

9. i am better than i was; i will be better than i am

i am firmly of the opinion that despite him being a little shit mac wants to be a better person (he contains multitudes). it's why he lied to lucy about being a soldier, why he left the gunners, and why he's trying so hard for duncan. why would he lie if he didn't want lucy to think better of him? why would he leave the gunners if what they do wasn't "catching up" to him? why would he fight tooth and nail to save every cap he could for his son? why do all that if you didn't want to be, or at the very least be perceived as, a better person? working with georgia and the minutemen (as well as the railroad later on) kinda give him that push he needs to really decide what kind of person he wants to be.

10. there's good in this world, and i found a little bit of it in you

after first leaving vault 111, georgia was convinced the world was past saving and that she was never going to find shaun. she thought the world was cruel and without mercy. but then she found so many people, mac included, who proved her wrong. for mac specifically, she caught on that he wanted to do better and in doing so, she found another spark of good in the world.
