You never thought you'd be able to learn so much about rocks in one day, but it seemed like Venture had made it their personal mission to force as much information into your brain as possible. You didn't mind, really! It was always nice listening to them rant about all the cool stuff they found while walking around the museum you'd planned to bring them to, but it was a lot to take in at once.

"Augh, I love sedimentary rocks- they're my favorite! 'cuz sometimes they have like, little fossils in them and I'm like, "Woah! A cool thing in another cool thing!" and it's awesome! One time I found a trilobite fossil in a rock, it was so cool! I wonder if they have any here- that'd be so amazing! I wonder what they taste like-"

After spilling every single fact they could think of about the rocks on display, Venture drags you to a section of the museum dedicated to Egyptian history, though they mostly just seemed interested in the architecture of the pyramids. You really did try to listen, but you mostly just caught the gist of their long, long, long explanations- something about a Mastaba being like a sort of prototype to pyramids? You were just happy to see them so excited, even if you didn't quite understand what they were so hyped about.

"Oh, if only that British lady could go back to ancient Egypt and get the architects of their time to answer my questions! I'd give anything to be able to do that!" Sensing the slight disappointment creeping up on them, you decide to try and bring Venture elsewhere, not wanting them to spend any energy on being upset by what they can't do.

"Why don't we go look at the dinosaur fossils? I'm sure there's some mistakes in the descriptions that you can correct!" You take their hand, gently pulling them away from the long essay-like description of images of the pyramids that they were reading. Incising them with promises of being able to show off their intensive knowledge of dinosaur fossils, or fossils in general.

Venture perked up almost immediately, following behind you as they ready themselves to go on and on about their favorite dinosaur ever, the Deinocheirus! You tried to ask why it was their favorite ones, and all they said was something about it being "them fr fr" and having rocks in its stomach. You weren't too keen on questioning that one.

They take a large step so they're walking next to you, swinging your arms as you walk, "It's always been one of my biggest goals to find a dinosaur fossil! I really hope I do one day, if I did I could die happy!"

"Please don't die- I would be so sad if you died." You squeeze their hand, voice light as you joke with them.

"Aw but I wanna! I wanna be a fossil for future people like me to discover! When I do die I wanna be buried with a bunch of cool stuff! Maybe mess around with my bones a little, just to throw 'em off!" As you finally reach the fossil exhibits, they abandon you to run off and check over every. single. fossil. which while endearing, gave you a lot of running to do in an attempt to catch up.

"Finally! For once a museum that gets everything right! Well, everything as far as we know-" They stand next to one of the larger fossils, not anything you recognized as you take your place next to them, catching your breath.

"Wow, how impressive-" you wheeze, standing up straight and stretching out your legs as you link arms with Venture, trying to stop them from running off on you again.

They laugh, grabbing you by the shoulder and dragging you in the tightest hug you've ever received.

"Thank you, so, so, so much for planning this. And for listening to me talk about rocks so much, and for caring about me- and a million other things! I can't even remember everything you've done for me, but I know its a lot!" They let you go, still holding you by the shoulders, the biggest smile you've ever seen on a person splayed across their face.

"Of course-! I love spending time with you, you're well aware of that, silly." You laugh, grabbing their wrists and taking their hands off your shoulders, holding their hands as you admire the glow of excitement on their face.

"Welllll since you clearly don't mind, can we go to this other museum I found online next week?! I heard they have an area where you get to watch an hour long video on the story of Julius Caesar!"

1. Which Milgram character is your favourite, and why?

To no one’s surprise, it’s Fuuta LMAO

As for why, honestly, I just simply have a type when it comes to fav characters and I knew Fuuta was gonna be my fav as soon as I saw him. Aside from that though, I do REALLY love his character and the direction it’s going. I think his character and his crime being so specifically modern really does add an extra bit of fondness too, because the internet and the idea of cancel culture is so prevalent in our lives. It’s a really interesting topic

I especially like how his story tackles guilt and forgiveness as well. Because his inherent reaction to his guilt isn’t as palatable as Haruka, for example.

His reaction to being labelled as a murderer and realizing he did something awful is aggression. I think it’s why he’s often construed for not feeling guilt at all. It’s hard to sympathize or humanize someone who’s attitude/actions you don’t like. There’s a reason he’s so desperate for unity and belonging because his natural temperament isn’t typically acceptable within societal norms and leaves people with a bad taste in their mouths, which is why he lacks belonging. And the MILGRAM audience being a reflection of society reinforcing societal norms onto the MILGRAM characters again which throws them back into the cycles and situations that led them to their murders in the first place is so interesting!

Also his intense guilt and the idea of wanting to be “blessed” with forgiveness and another chance is a topic I really enjoy and feel for. And it’s especially interesting considering the “bless me with one more chance” line in Backdraft when thinking about why he found his salvation in Amane and her religion, because he DID finally get blessed with a second chance; a chance to be reborn. And his spiritual rebirth is especially highlighted with how seemingly different Fuuta is now. He’s much softer and kinder after finding his “salvation” and it’s so ough.

Sorry for the sudden fuuta rant💀 I really love him.

6. Which MV is your favourite and why?

Ooohhh this is hard. I haven’t thought about it. I have to say I really love After Pain and MeMe! For After Pain, it’s mainly the aesthetics. I LOVE the location and colour palette. The details of how Mu’s bullying is being portrayed as an unending cycle and the shoes and blackboard notes giving hints that Muu wasn’t a pure victim is really cool!! The detail of the MV being out of order too ooof

As for MeMe I’m not sure what it is I love about it but I really do! I love the aesthetics and location, especially paired with the song. Tbh Its been a while since I looked at the tarot cards but I think it’s really neat as well!! Also I really like Mikoto’s outfit-

7. Which prisoner do you think you would get along with the most if you met them in person, and why?

I think I’d probably get along the best with Yuno? I think we could go out and have fun dkdbdk I don’t know if we have that many common hobbies but I’d probably still get along well with her!

I also find I relate to Mikoto a lot but not in the similar hobbies way💀 so I think we’d get along but I feel like actually hanging out might be a little awkward. But it’d probably be fine after some time!

8. Which prisoner do you think you would get on with the least if you met in person, and why?

Oooof I really love everyone and I don’t think I would have any major problems with anyone or anything like that. But if I had to pick then probably Muu? I love her a lot but I don’t know if I’d have a fun time with her IRL😭

Aside from that, I think I’d get along with everyone else relatively fine aside from some awkwardness🥲

I just wanna say: I've been putting off reading HWR for a long while now despite my curiosity and interest ever since learning Chrollo wasn't gonna be a yandere because that would mean the reader would have to be morally grey to match and plenty of their actions would be justified and it's just hard to relate and root for a character like that!! But I since got over it and started reading and I gotta say WOW. I am in LOVE with Lady Avalor!!! I can relate to her a lot am super duper interested in her story and fhdkdj you just did such an amazing job. I'm so glad you wrote this story and I'm only on chapter 2!!

Only problem is: every time Chrollo shows up, I'm just like ew go away 😭 you don't deserve her 🤚 get your fake and cunning ass awayyyy. Lady Avalor likes genuine and honest people!!!

it's always interesting to look at a story that i wrote a while ago (two years doesn't feel that long, but how i write has changed significantly), especially since HWR was the most ambitious story i'd set out to tell up until that point. i struggled with the first chapter in particular, but in retrospect, that and the final chapter have ended up my personal favorites. i worked off this basic idea for HWR reader and kinda built the story around her. i wanted someone born as a product of their extreme environment, since she'd later become a member of the phantom troupe, whose experiences in meteor city hardened them in a similar (yet different) way.

the dynamic i've normally portrayed of chrollo with a reader is one centered around power imbalance. reader has their wits about them but is just so positively outclassed due to their ignorance of nen. with HWR reader, i wanted her to be 'strong' in the sense she's an adept fighter, yet the area she falls short of is a solid sense of self. her entire life, all she's known is to receive orders and carry them out from a position in power (originally, her father, the finally, chrollo as the boss of the phantom troupe). the first — and last, really — time that she goes against her father's wishes, she loses everything for it and ends up in a state of nonexistence. just drifting from thing to thing, capable of sustaining herself, but for what?

what you mention about HWR reader's preference for genuine people is what i consider to be one of the more tragic elements of her character. it's what sounds best for her, and still, she's drawn in by chrollo's undeniable magnetism, the chance to have that structure she's unknowingly grown dependent on all this time. before that, it was karina, who seemed authentic enough, but would go on to use her too. even though chrollo came to care for her, it started as a way for him to better understand himself. they're both just these weird deeply flawed beings that orbit one another because there's no one else who can understand what surreal things they've been through.

if you couldn't tell she means a lot to me hjrntegkrm she's a hot mess beneath that prim and proper veneer. the girl edits wikipedia articles for fun. i'm glad that you're interested in her character. i think that even though the exact happenings of her life aren't especially relatable, the themes of isolation, oppressive patriarchal figures, delayed identity development and being used for the advantage of others are things that can potentially resonate.
