5. What are your thoughts on dolls with already pre-existing characters from movies/books/cartoons/etc.?

I actually used to have a couple of these and planned on getting more when I was in secondary school and high school. I was huge on Kingdom Hearts when I first got into BJDs and would have loved to have dolls of some of those characters! 

I had these floating heads I got for cheap once and decided they would make great Vexen and Marluxia. I just made the Organization coat for one of my OC dolls and would plop one of those heads on his body whenever I wanted to take pictures!

But well. I eventually got bored of Kingdom Hearts. So the Marluxia head was turned into one of my OCs while Vexen’s... well, that one’s a mod test head now. XD Kinda tempted to make it into some horror mod...

I just have an easier time staying invested in OCs. So I want all my future dolls to be OCs. Though it’s fun to see other people make BJDs based on game characters. :D Like this one blog I follow because they’re making a BJD version of Junkrat from Overwatch! Or oh, I once saw a Geralt of Rivia BJD on Facebook! So cool! Just not something I could stay invested in in the long run. :’>

hey, so umm some bjd updates:

purchased a body for calen (the little rebel kaylar i got a couple of months ago) but it didn’t work as it was way lighter than i had expected so rather then trying to match those i’m opting for matching a lighter head to the body instead, in this case my boy sae whom also was in need of new body. a bit taller than what i had in mind for him but i’ll make it work

i‘ve also got another switch head - a seolrok holy ver~ u v u he’ll be sharing the old dollstown 15yrs body with tuesday and the temporarily nameless migidoll ryu (used to be sae but I didn’t like him as a ws)

and on top of that i had to get a dollstown deogi head before she’s discontinued but uhh yea... i think that’s enough for now. gotta paint them all too.

I would honestly commission Kleincrew again for more mori clothes because I love the clothes I got but I cant go through the stress of wondering if she'll decide the money is worth it and if I'll get the outfit if I don't chat with her constantly like I did before. I love her and she's super rad!!!!! but..

1. Have your tastes changed in sculpts over the years?

YES. I got my first BJD in secondary school and I’m now finishing university (of applied sciences) and getting ready to become a freelance artist. That’s a couple of years for my art style and tastes to change. Getting BJDs definitely helped me get better at drawing by letting me have dolls of different body types for reference. AND as the bodies of SD dolls are usually mature, realistic and idealized, I eventually started to resent this “cartoony faces on a realistic body” aesthetic.

Just look at this quick reference between what I drew like in secondary school vs. what I might draw today...

The eyes... THE EYES. And then see how my tastes in dolls has changed with my first doll, Angell Studio Cinderella, next to a more recent addition, Granado Pluto (Liminka).

I honestly am considering changing the heads of some of my older dolls, especially the men with babyfaces like Bolero and Vincente. They looked like how I drew their characters like 8 years ago, but not so much anymore with my developed style. In a way I don’t want to because Vince is the oldest doll I own but at the same time HIS EYES ARE SO HUGE. Maybe I should just consider modding his eyes smaller. *Sigh* Same goes for Serenade.

Reminds me that I have quite a few old doll heads I should get rid of because they just don’t fit my new tastes. Urrrrghhh.

Little Reminder For You All

Due to a recent call out, I just want to post something here for the BJD community. Stick with me guys!

There will always be someone who dislikes your dolls, even if they are the most beautiful dolls in the world. And you know what? They are. They are the most beautiful dolls in the world because they are YOURS. You MADE them who they are. You should never be ashamed of something you put your heart into, ever, even if someone says you should. 

Made a doll with self-harm scars? Bruises? Abuse? They are beautiful, and they are yours. Made a doll with dark skin? Beautiful. White skin? Amazing. Faceupless dolls even?? Of course. They are all amazing little parts of you. 

I know it’s hard to continue when people bring you and your resin friends down. I’ve dealt with so much from my family, mainly people calling him anorexic (my grandmother even went to far as to call him ‘the little anorexic’ to my face) or ugly, but in my eyes, I think he’s one of the most beautiful characters I have, and that is saying something. 

Don’t ever let anyone tell you that your dolls are ugly. If they do, just remember that they are yours, and yours only, and if you think they are beautiful, then they are. They are amazing. Just remember this this.

And to everyone who has dealt with family, friends, or complete strangers bashing your dolls, remember to stay strong, and I’m proud of you all. If you would like, please share your stories with me so I can listen to what you have to say! Or just tell me about your characters! I would love to hear about them! 

Please pass this forward so others can see this. It took a lot to write, and I hope it can help others.

Kog is hoooome~

His body from DollsTown arrived quite a bit earlier but the head got home just yesterday. Now... he needs eyes. First priority! I wonder where I could get some really shiny yellow eyes with a small iris... I should also do some faceup mockups. : o  I will prolly commission a faceup from someone because blonde eyebrows are just really hard for me to do. o_o

For now... he just sits between Requiem and Bolero with a small baby shirt wrapped around his waist because I don’t have a shirt or pants big enough for him. XDD (And the baby shirt is actually too short to cover his crotch if he wears it normally... so it became a loincloth instead!)

11. Do you have a doll you love but will probably never have?

Again skipping a couple of questions because I don’t think my answers would be too interesting. xD (In a nutshell... I prefer human characters over animals/anthros, like all BJD sizes and of course I talk to my dolls.)

As for THIS question. Hmmm... Well, I used to be this way about the RIngdoll Fat Happiness but then I actually DID get one after years of searching so at the moment I have this “everything is possible if you have patience” mentality. xD

All of the dolls on my wish list are basic editions I could easily get from the company. Well, I guess there’s two exceptions and those are basically “I want a Granado body and would prefer a Granado head but there’s not been one suiting the character yet” so I’m still waiting for those to pop up.

But if we want this “doll I prolly will never get”, we could go back to yesterday’s post. Ah, a blue skin doll... Who wouldn’t turn green with age... I would love that. Then I would just get a Granado Titan in blue skin and make him some insane paladin armour. >:U But er. Yeah. Green skin would be very wrong for the character... *Deep sigh* I could just dye the head, hands and upper torso blue and cover everything else up but UGH. Maybe in 5 years I’ll reconsider that.

Or then we can talk doll characters I want but prolly never will get. Like Tacion who would need floating, disembodied arms with purple fire (YEAH, SURE) and Areylen who would need metal hair that basically turns into liquid mercury halfway. Oh and skeletal wings that drip translucent goop (M-HM. VERY DO-ABLE). So I’m just gonna sit here and just draw those characters instead of making dolls of them because YEAH NO.

(Technically I’m still tempted by Tacion. You know... I could get him as an Unoa and just use wire for the floating arms.... Like a really long wire and photoshop it out and paint fire in. :’D But we’ll see.)

7. How much does yellowing bother you?

On NS dolls? Not much. Most of my dolls are “NS Yellow” so the yellowing isn’t too obvious. And on Vince yellowing has actually been a good thing! His character should be Italian and I’d prefer him to not be... super pale. I could excuse it with his heritage but eugh. I don’t want to! BUT! Yellowing has made him slightly darker! With some nice blushing he should look less pale than he did when I first got him over 8 years ago. :>

But WS and TS dolls? Oh boy... Well, on WS it may be okay if the doll’s character isn’t supposed to be paper white. One of mine, Zesil, SHOULD be paper white with gray blushing but HAHA. That doll was never pure white! So I just blushed him HEAVILY using grays and blacks. Just to cover up the yellowish tints (or the green tints on the head). 

(He still has this faceup. Lol. It’s so old but I know I still can’t make a better one so it stays. XD And yes. I will blush the body to match... Someday. I hate blushing bodies because I know it will rub off.)

Meanwhile, I only have two tan skin dolls (and considering a third) and I’m TERRIFIED what yellowing might do to them. Will they go green? I guess with Tai that might be okay considering he should be undead, but the others? Oh boy... Luckily, those have not noticeably yellowed yet as I’ve kept them away from sunlight.

AND. Well, I’ve stated a few times that I’d love to have a blue skin doll. But. I don’t want a green doll. So haha... I have a feeling a blue doll will just be a dream. Unless I suddenly decide to dye a Granado Titan blue. Yeah. Nnnnnnot gonna happen... Probably... I still am tempted... Q~Q

4. How many dolls are too many to you personally?

(Skipping question 3 because my answer to it isn’t too interesting. In a nutshell, I would borrow money from my dad and do commissions to pay him back. No big deal to me.)

As for THIS question. Well, I know 20 is not too much. :D Probably not 30 either. I’m thinking too much would be so many I can’t find space for them. Though ATM I can’t estimate where that would be in the future because I do live with my parents so I just have my own room for ALL my stuff from games to art supplies to fabrics to dolls. 

Most of my assembled dolls fit in my doll closet though so I’m good. I... need to make some wigs though. But HNGH. Learning new skills is scary. :U I could easily clothe most of them with stuff I have but WIGS.

Definitely curious where my limit would be if I had a place of my own. That would be a LOT of space for my stuff. Maybe one day. For now, I just stuff them all in the doll closet with all the doll pillows or in boxes above my clothes closet. XD

Do you have pre-made characters for the dolls that you get home?

Whoops. Didn’t get to do this yesterday because I got caught up in video games. xD But here goes!

But for this, let’s just say my first 4-or-so characters were made after finding a really nice doll while the ones after that mostly had a character ready. That’s because I got into roleplaying on DeviantArt in high school and thus had to keep making characters. Mostly Pokémon gijinkas, but characters nonetheless. And boom, suddenly I had over 100 characters and I had try try and decide which characters NOT to get a doll of. QAQ

^ Yes. Those are all old RP characters I want a doll of. Currently I have 3½ out of 8. Eep... They used to be Pokémon gijinkas but I’ve since rewamped them to not be Pokémon.

Of course, occasionally I still come upon dolls whose design is just SO GOOD I want to get it even if don’t have a character for it. Such examples would be my Ringdoll Fat Happiness and Doll Chateau Katrina. The Fat Happiness ended up being good for a chibi version of of a character I didn’t have plans to get a doll of, while the Katrina just got to be a fashion doll without much of a character. :>

I have no idea what pictures to post with this. Don’t want it to be a wall of text but I don’t have good photos of my Fat Happiness or Katherine... Uhhh. RANDOM OC PICTURES AWEIGH! Below is my Fat Happiness’s self-portrait!
