Barty didn't want to see Regulus' new boyfriend. He didn't care that they were still friends despite their break up, he didn't want to meet up with that guy. And if Regulus thought that introducing his new lover to his ex was a good idea, he was either fucking naive or didn't give a fuck about Barty’s feelings anymore.

“Relax, you are going to like him.”

“How can you be this positive, Reg? I don't know if you have forgotten it or something but the fact that I am your friend doesn't erase that I am your ex at the same time.”

Regulus shrugged as he rolled his eyes at him. Barty’s blood was boiling inside his veins, he still couldn't believe how disrespectful Regulus could be.

They were lovers for months for fucks sake. It wasn't a summer fling, it was an entire year. Sure, it didn't work out in the end, and it was toxic but he still had lingering feelings for him. But after this poor attitude of Regulus, he didn't think he could no longer stay friends with him as close as he used to.

“It's different, you’ll know when you meet him.”

It was Barty who rolled his eyes this time. He was missing Evan’s presence, it was a bad idea to do this on his own. Fuck, he should've listened to him when things didn't get this complicated.

“James!”

Barty looked at the man Regulus’ called out, he was at the same height as Barty, muscular type and thick thighs. He was an attractive bloke, he must admit which fueled his fire more.

“Hey, Reg!”

They met in the middle and Regulus gave a kiss on James’ cheek, then looked up to Barty.

“James, this is Barty, Barty this is James.”

James the nice bloke took his hand in his palm and slowly shook it, his hold on him was unnecessarily firm.

“Oh so you are the next cock Regulus is gonna take up his ass.”

“Excuse me?”

Regulus' eyes went wider and he could see he got on James’ nerves by the second he opened his mouth. Good, he didn't need an ally, all James could get from was his hatred and hatred only.

Barty smirked, slowly releasing James’ hand.

“Or maybe he already did.”

(let me preface this by saying that my characterization might not be everybody’s, and that’s okay. my characterization is “the one” in my head, but that doesn’t mean it has to be everyone else’s “one,” and neither i nor the fics/authors i mention below are “better” in any way, shape, or form than anyone else. everyone in this fandom writes amazing works, and i’m sure there are so many wonderful fics with phenomenal regulus characterization that i haven’t read yet)

i’m gonna sound like a cunt here, but my own fics take first place for me💀i write for myself, so i write the regulus i perceive, yk? but here’s (some of) my reggieverse of madness:

@imdamagecontrol’s regulus is amazing in every fic they write, i.e. in paint it black, which to me really shows not only his “duality” but everything in between (and he’s got the cutest little nose freckles), and i’m really really excited to read more of their regulus study, all these terrible things

user georgia_sk on ao3 (i’m sorry if she has tumblr! i looked for it to try and tag her but couldn’t find it) wrote an amazing fic called whatever happened to the young, young lovers? that really encapsulates regulus for me as well

like. james listening to the baby’s heartbeat because he’s a god with enhanced hearing. regulus calling her “little star.” him putting his hand over where she is and james putting his hand on top of his and they just😭feel her and talk to her😭and sing to her😭and james (being apollo) composes his own piece that highlights regulus’ countertenor and his baritone in a duet and regulus plays his lyre😭and it gets to the point that once their baby is born she only goes to sleep when they sing to her😭and she only stays asleep when regulus holds her against his chest so that she can hear his heartbeat😭
