BC Firefighting Helicopter Near Miss With Powerline Tower
BC Firefighting Helicopter Near Miss With Hydro Tower Video just Released
A video has just been released on Stringr.com for the news and media. The clip has been in the ProPics Canada Media Ltd files and was being reviewed for inclusion in a video to promote fire awareness and prevention when the editor noticed that the water bucket below the helicopter actually made contact with either the Hydro tower or Powerlines in flight.
The main video is on Stringr.com and following the real-time footage, a second scene is added at 25% speed and zoomed in to better view the moment of contact which causes the contents of the water bucket (hanging from the helicopter) to splash contents out as it makes contact with the tower or powerlines.
This illustrates how dangerous it is for the helicopter pilots and anyone below during the heroic efforts they put in trying to save communities and lives. It also demonstrates the risk to any members of the general public below in fire zones when they should not be in the restricted areas. This pilot kept going and fortunately came close to disaster but was able to finish his/her shift and go home at the end of the day. You can see in the video how that was so close to not being the case.
The video was actually captured by a ProPics Canada Media video journalist during the Lytton Wildfires on July 01, 2021 at approx. 8:51pm.

Ugh, I'm having problems with the folks upstairs & I'm doubting the line between setting reasonable boundaries and landlord brain* 😖
But, like, I haven't been able to fit any trash in the shared bin in like 6 weeks b/c they keep filling it with recyclables and compost (normally I'd clear out room & sort stuff properly, but it's been hot & I can't deal with the maggots 😭); someone decided to store tires blocking the entrance to my suite & MOVED THEM BACK after I moved them out of the way; they're piling absolutely rancid bags of trash in my part of the garage where it can leak on my stuff; I have to hound them for weeksto do their share of the yardwork (a division we ALL agreed on when we signed the agreement- I have allergy-induced asthma, so keeping pollen down is a health issue for me); they're using THREE households worth of power according to BCHydro & sticking me with the bill (for comparison, with 7-8 ppl, the max we managed was 2- it's 4 of them + me rn, they have 3 A/Cs running & I haven't even set mine up...)
... & this is just shit that's been an issue in the past 2 weeks. Like, I've just accepted that I do laundry once an week, because that's how often the machine is free. Again, 5 people living in the house, and I can't even get more than 1 load thru most weeks- yet somehow my laundry detergent & softener keep disappearing like I'm doing laundry almost every day...
At what point do I say "fuck you, you're being assholes"? Like, potential landlord-brain aside, they're just horrible to live with, & Idek how to deal with their bullshit...
(*Keeping in mind that I'd love nothing more than to be able to work for a living, but as it stands, the down payment on this place essentially cost me half a meter of intestine + the ability to walk on slopes for more than a few meters without severe pain, so, like, pls don't vent your frustrations at bad landlords at the cripple who managed to get a decent insurance payout & convinced a lender to give em a mortgage while ey could still work steadily before eir disabilities caught up with em, kthx?)

I feel guilty for "going over budget" when i paid 300 at tall tree health and 125 on BChydro's outrageous bill. Sometimes we make all these decusions for 'future me' and who suffers? Pressnt me.

Clint Goyette has spent a lot of time on the rivers around Squamish, B.C., over the last two decades as a fishing guide, but even he was shocked to see hundreds of dead fish lying in pools along the Cheakamus River recently.
The spawning pink salmon, on their way to lay thousands of eggs, became trapped in isolated pools and died as water levels in Cheakamus River rapidly fell — the result of a nearby BC Hydro facility decreasing the river's flow, known as ramping, at the end of September.
"I was out guiding the day of the [river level] reduction," said Goyette, who runs Valley Fishing Guides in Squamish, about 65 kilometres north of Vancouver.
Goyette said he ran into BC Hydro crews out on the river surveying the damage, one of whom warned him about what he was about to encounter further up the river.
"I passed one of their crew … and he said, 'There's hundreds of dead fish up there so don't be surprised,'" Goyette said.

Biologist Chessy Knight, who captured photos of the dead fish on Sept. 20, estimates about 300 fish were killed when the water levels in the Cheakamus River fell by about half over the course of a day.
The pink salmon were trapped in shallow pools and couldn't return to deeper, flowing sections of the river.
"This has been happening for many, many years on the Cheakamus," said Knight, who's also president of the Squamish River Watershed Society.
"But this is the first time that we saw adult spawners also affected by these flow manipulations."
