We weren’t able to make it the Anteprima of Chianti Classico in Florence this year, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying some wonderful wine from great friends! ____ The weather has been a bit crazy, but we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and fire up the grill and warm up some pots and pans. We invited our good friend and collaborator @send.me.nud_l_es to talk about some big things comming up! Yep #CantinaSocial is going to dabble in some show cooking that we are sure you will enjoy! But back to the good stuff… ____ We paired a delicious #ChiantiClassico from our friends at @nardi_viticoltori who use a touch of other indigenous varieties in their wine to give it something truly unique. Ten months of aging in french barrels and another five months in bottle help mold this beauty into a wildly fun red wine.. especially when you pair it with a #bigboy steak. We also cooked up some champignon mushrooms and asparagus with a touch of soy sauce for some extra umami and depth. HILBERG-PASQUERO 29.5 PER ALESSANDRA BARBERA D’ALBA 2015, PIEMONTE  

When I first tasted this wine I couldn’t believe how light and pretty it was. We expect a little of this from a good Barbera, but this biodynamic beauty will show you raspberries and strawberries to rival the Union Square Farmer’s market. Pizza wine, anyone? It’s no accident that talented winemaker Annette Hilberg named this one for her daughter Alessandra. An amazing value from Piemonte and a no-brainer for this season, this one was born to chill! $17

SESTERZIO GAUDIUM ROSSO DI VALTELLINA 2013, LOMBARDIA

Generally when we think of Nebbiolo we think of Piemonte, but there’s also Valtellina, in neighboring Lombardia. These expressions tend to be a little less ripe and a little more austere, due to the steep vineyards in this mountainous region. This jewel of a wine – very much the color of a ruby – brings a little more cherry and hint of smoke to the party. Easy-drinking with soft tannins that are light enough to take a slight chill as well. Would go very well with Mexican grilled corn or grilled sausages. “Gaudium” is from the Latin word for joy. Enjoy! $24

CASTELLO DI SELVOLE CHIANTI CLASSICO 2014, TUSCANY

An under-the-radar Chianti that is still quite affordable, Castello di Selvole is the project of ex-journalist Guido Busetto, who spent most of his life in Japan reporting the news of the world before returning home to make some killer vino in a classic style. Red berries, crushed flowers, licorice and coffee beans Another classic tomato pairing (think red sauce or tomatoes in any form really) this wine would also absolutely kill with Barbacoa or brisket. Structured and balanced 100% Sangiovese with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity and a surprisingly long, harmonious finish, this wine ages for two years before entering the market. This one’s been in bottle an additional two. You do the math. $23

SANFELETTO DOCG PROSECCO SUPERIORE EXTRA DRY:

A true grower prosecco.  This DOCG Prosecco Superiore comes from the ridge between Valdobbiadene and Conegliano.  The vineyards reach up to 900 ft above sea level and the fruit is estate-grown and hand-harvested with minimal use of sulfur.  Aromas of green apple, white flowers, wisteria;  A very pretty Prosecco that I love to drink on its own or use to make the best Aperol Spritzs in the universe.  Come taste the bub.  $17

L'ARMANGIA PRATOROTONDO 2014 CHARDONNAY PIEDMONT:

Chardonnay has been cultivated in Piedmont for centuries...and the Giovene family have been growers and winemakers for over 100 years.  They like to make wine traditionally and pay homage to the history of the region.  A few carefully selected Chardonnay clones are combined and vinified in a combination of stainless steal and oak. The result is an incredibly balanced and nuanced Chard, with vibrant acidity and a luxe, lengthy finish. A great match for salmon, ramps, and ricotta or fish tacos!  $16

LENOIR GUERIN 2015 MACON ROUGE "LES SILLONS LONGS":

Gamay is my jam.  And this one from the Macon region of Burgundy offers a lovely earthy edge to balance out the juicy red fruit that Gamay is famous for.  We love drinking this wine with frenchy foods like Croque Monsieurs, Pain Bagnats, and of course French Fries with Mayonaise.  I'm hungry.  Can you tell?  This wine will improve your lunch or dinner everytime.  Come taste it juicy goodness... $18

IL FITTO 2014 SYRAH CORTONA TUSCANY:  

This lush and oaky Syrah has had my 'staff pick' tag strung around it's neck for some time now.  I love the wine and I love the value it offers.  Outside the town of Cortona in southern Tuscany lies the agriturismo.  Estate-grown and hand-harvested fruit coming from just 5 hectares of vines from their small farm.  15 months in French oak gives the wine a powerful yet elegant spice... drink with meat hot off the grill.  $19

TENUTE VIGLIONE 2013 PRIMITIVO PUGLIA:

Viglione is a certified organic estate!  No small feat these days, believe it or not.  This is 100% organic wine made from Primitivo grapes from vineyards on some of the highest altitudes in Puglia.  Shell fossils are often found in the vineyard because centuries ago the ocean used to surround the hill where the vines are located... cool, right?  This wine is dark purple with lush black fruit flavors like plums and blackberries.  But have no fear, there's enough acidity here to make you want sips for days... drink with spicy bbq or beef tacos.  $14
