Bond of the Beasts Chapter 13
“Snatcher, are you awake?” Hattie slowly entered the attic in the early evening. As per the usual, the place was dusty and nearly pitch black, the tiny window in the room that had the shutters nearly closed completely was the only thing that gave off any light. She nearly tripped over a stack of books that was on the ground, the picture on it showed a black and white photo of a vampire, due to the darkness, Hattie was unable to read the title of the book, the strange calligraphy that it had didn't help that issue at all either.
The vampire gave an annoyed growl as he pulled the blanket off himself and glared at the young sorceress that held a book in her hand, he could already tell where this was going. The kid might be more than a little annoying, but he had to admit that she was tenacious and studious. “I am now. Let me guess, you need my help because you're stuck again?”
Hattie faltered a bit under the strict look that Snatcher was giving her, but was determined to get to the bottom of that too briefly and not conclusively described shield spell. “It's not a complicated word this time, I have trouble finding out what exactly I'm supposed to do. I thought about trying my hand at something a bit more advanced and I think that the shield spell in this book would be very useful.-” She opened the book on the page that the perplexing spell was on and more or less shoved it into his face. “It says here 'Think of something protective', that's rather vague.” The opened page showed the words that Hattie had accurately reproduced and an illustration of a young wizard thinking of a metal shield. In the dim lighting, Snatcher had some trouble seeing the the page at first, he rubbed his eyes to get the sleep out of it before he looked again. His rather annoyed frown turned into a wide smirk.
The purple-haired man rose an eyebrow at the oddly misleading description. “They really dropped the ball on the illustration for this spell, kiddo, I can understand why you're confused.”
“I was thinking of a huge and super sturdy shield, but that did nothing. I was trying to think of a heavy suit of armor after that, but I got no results, nothing appeared.” Hat Kid looked a bit dejected and looked away in shame while crossing her arms, almost pouting a bit.
The vampire let out a, to her, condescending sounding laughter. “Oh no, kid, you're supposed to think of something that YOU find comfort in something that protects you mentally not physically if that makes sense.” He shook his head at the book again. “This young wizard disturbs me, there's nothing protective about envisioning a dumb shield. You'd think he'd think of a toy, or maybe his parents.”
“So...I'm supposed to think of something that gives me comfort and then I'm supposed to try and make that feeling manifest?” She tilted her head at him as if that sounded way too simple to work.
“Yep. If that's all you want to bother me with today, could you scram? I got things to do. Adult things like work and stuff.”
Hattie nodded. “Thanks for the help, Snatcher.” The vampire waved her off dismissively and Hattie went back down to practice in the front yard again. Cookie had forbidden her to practice in the house due to her breaking several fragile vases, cups and plates while she tried to get a better grasp on her float spell that she thought she had mastered, but the results confirmed the opposite. Thinking that using the last bit of daylight to practice might at least get her closer to achieving her goal of being able to get a grasp on that shield spell, she headed outside and was nearly shoved right back inside by Muriel as she shoved past her. “Hey! Be more careful, I almost fell.” Hattie's complaint fell on deaf ears as the werewolf headed straight to the living room.
The young sorceress only shook her head and watched Bow enter. “Woah, what happened to you? You look like you've seen a ghost, Bow.” The changeling only nodded, the potion was beginning to wear off, so her skin had changed color to a deep purple.
“We got chased by a...a boar. It was super scary.” Bow was shivering head to toe, Mu on the other hand appeared to somehow not be fazed at all. When Hattie tried to console her by hugging her, Bow sighed. “It's okay, I'll just need to calmed down again.” Bow appeared a bit sad again, a trend that had persisted the past few days and worried Hattie a lot at this point. She had brushed it off as Bow just being a bit anxious at first, but the problem seemed to be rooted deeper.
“You know that you can talk to me, right? I just want to help, Bow.” Once again, Bow forced a smile and Hattie sighed in defeat. In all honesty, she had no idea how to cheer Bow up at right now. She had to really think of something. The blue-eyed girl watched her sister walk down the hallway to the living room where Mu was watching TV already. From the sounds of it, it sounded like the two were watching a shonen anime. Hattie knew what bothered Bow, however, she had no idea how to make it better, if she were to try to help Bow with her homework or at school, her sister would only feel belittled and it might make her feel even more inferior. With a sigh she turned to the front door again and almost got pushed back in a second time she intended to go outside, this time the offender was the Conductor. Unlike Mu, he stopped for a moment to apologize for nearly slamming the door into her face which she appreciated.
The wereowl returned the muttered 'Hello' that Hattie breathed out as she moved past him into the front yard. He could have sworn that the girl looked a bit troubled, right now though, he really didn't feel like addressing the issue. He felt tired and exhausted, more so than usual, as he had to start even earlier today and his shift ended an hour later as well. Bow flinched when she saw him enter the living room and avoided looking at him as he motioned for Mu, who had sprawled out in the armchair, to move to a different spot. “Nope, I got here first, sit on the couch.” Bow, who was on the couch, jolted noticeably, not wanting the angry blonde man to sit near her. He was scary, the way his face contorted into a scowl and the manner in which his eyes narrowed and pierced right through whomever he looked at, made her skin crawl and gave her chills. Some of those frightening displays of anger were on his face when Bow looked at the interaction between the two werebeasts.
“I ain't in the mood ta argue, lassie, move over.” The moment Mu shook her head again, showing her defiance, the man simply picked her up by her shirt and dumped her onto the couch unceremoniously.
Obviously, the young werewolf protested. “Hey, you can't just pick me up and dump me on the couch like a piece of furniture!” She crossed her arms.
The Conductor sat down with a grunt followed by a deep breath as his muscles finally had a chance to relax. “I just showed ye that I can, didn't I?”
Mu growled. “Stupid jerk. I deserved that seat after I got rid of that boar today.” The wereowl gave a rather pointed glare at the light insult which at first didn't seem to have an effect, but Mu's ears started to flatten and were soon tightly pressed down on her head after realizing that she may have went to far. “...sorry.” She whispered in a remorse tone that was a lot meeker than her rather loud and boisterous voice.
“A boar, eh? How'd ye encounter one o' these in the first place? They're easy to avoid thanks ta their stench and ye should smell them ten times better, lassie.” After saying his piece, the short man reached into his suit pocket to grab a lighter and a partly smoked cigar.
“Well, Bow and I were collecting mushrooms in the woods because I was bored and needed to get out and breathe some fresh air. I did smell that boar, you know, but it kept getting closer until it saw us. When we tried to make an exit, Bow tripped and it charged at us.-” Her confidence seemed to be back as she started to smile and reenact the fight she had with that boar dramatically. She jumped up from the couch and punched and kicked the air. “-So there I was staring down that wild beast as it charged at us, ready to hurt Bow. I growled and howled to get it to back off, but the boar continued its rampage, so I bravely jumped to the side to get its attention.-” Mu jumped to the side to show off her dodge. Bow had trouble smiling, even if she found Mu's silly antics amusing. The fact remained that it was her fault that the boar attacked in the first place. The dramatic retelling at least seemed to cheer the other person that was in the room with them up, the Conductor's menacing scowl had turned into the subtlest hint of a smile.
“.I used my supreme, ultra dodging skills to jump out of the way just in time to avoid the deadly tusks, I could feel the wind brush past me as the violent beast slammed into the tree behind me.-” Mu pretended to run against the wall and fall down to the ground, twitching her arms and legs, playing out the boar's disorientation. This time even Bow had to smile a little, the silly actions wiping away her sorrow temporarily.
“-After that, I gave that evil boar a fierce bite to the neck and it turned tail and ran off, like a scared chicken and I emerged victorious!” Mu rose both her arms up high in the air like a boxer who'd won a long and fierce fight and was celebrating after knocking out their opponent.
The Conductor chuckled a little. “That's quite the tale, lassie. Ye really showed that walkin' piece o' meat who's boss, eh? Good job.” Mu beamed at the praise while Bow showed a look of pure confusion at the shift in attitude that the man she had thought to be mean and angry displayed. She had expected him to laugh, not to compliment Mu. The question that he asked next really took her off guard and put her perception of the old wereowl into question even more. “Muriel here wasn't spoutin' nonsense, was she, Bow lassie?” Bow briefly looked up at the blonde man he was taking a drag of his cigar while she focused on him, he wasn't scowling and didn't look angry. It wasn't his question that made her rethink her opinion of the man, it was the look of worry in his eyes as his gaze fell on her. He seemed to try to hide it, but she could see it clearly.
Bow fidgeted a little, but gave a response. “She was telling the truth.”
“See, gramps, I wasn't lying, I AM that awesome!” Mu proclaimed, proudly as she marched back to the seat on the couch. The blonde man only chuckled and shook his head, finding her actions endearing, his mind briefly wandered to a thought that he shoved away as quickly as it came; Would his grandkids have acted the same? “Uhh...didn't Cookie tell you not to smoke inside the house?” He was almost thankful for the question of the energetic golden-eyed girl, it stopped his thoughts from going places that he didn't want them to go to.
“Aye, she did, but she isnae here, is she?” Mu just shrugged while Bow didn't want to say anything about it in fear of making the old man angry. The three watched TV more or less in silence for a while. Hattie returned back inside after it turned to dark out to see, she looked tired, but had a small smile on her face.
Bow was the only one who seemed to take note of that though. Muriel had fallen asleep the fight from earlier had made her more tired when she would have admitted, so all it took was the white noise from the TV to lull her to sleep. The Conductor seemed almost equally as tired, his purple eyes were starting to close as he tried to follow the news report that was currently on the channel. The clock that the news program had at the bottom of the screen showed 21:32, 09:32pm. Bow decided to turn in for the night, her mattress was still in Hattie's room, however, the actual owner of the room was already asleep much to Bow's relief, she really wasn't in the mood to talk to her sister.
The following hours, the changeling was being kept awake by her own thoughts, and strange anxiety that she had normally only felt when she feared that the scientists would run a test on her again. The tired girl was well aware that right now she was safe, the looming danger of being discovered aside, but she could sense that the other residents of the house also struggled with that general fear. She didn't feel unwelcome either, no one had been bad to her. She really liked Cookie and the DJ, both were super nice to her and Hattie.
She jolted slightly after she heard the door next to their room open rather forcefully, a barely audible “What a troublemaker this lassie, makin' me carry her to bed.” It made Bow smile slightly. She really must have misunderstood the grumpy old man. Maybe she could try to talk to him next time when he wasn't in a sour mood. The clock in the kitchen showed 3am as the young changeling silently went down the creaky staircase. Nobody seemed to be awake, all the lights were off, all she could hear were normal house noises. She opened the fridge, staring at its contents for a brief moment, blinded by the light after walking through the dark and slightly creepy hallway, something about the fact that the hallway upstairs only had a tiny window near the stairs and nowhere else made walking down it really unnerving. She always had the feeling that something could sneak up on her and drag her into the darkness, or maybe that she'd hear a disembodied voice call her name in a quiet and eerie whisper, it gave her the chills.
She realized that her skin had turned purple again, even her small horns and tail had popped back up. Bow took a few deep breaths to regain her composure after freaking herself out. Bow got herself a bottle of juice and took a seat in the kitchen. Bow wondered where all that anxiety was coming from, it somehow got worse every day. It wasn't the fear of pain or potential death this time, of that she was certain, but what was it then?
A clicking and small creaking just out in the hallway brought Bow Kid right back out of pensive behavior, she got startled so bad that she gasped and immediately brought her hands in front of her mouth to stifle the noise. Was it a burglar? Did someone break their door? She started to shiver and her heart skipped a beat as soon as a shadow went toward the kitchen. Her fear was soon replaced by relief upon realizing who it was, a low pitched humming gave the intruder away.
DJ Grooves entered the house earlier than usual due to him dealing with paper work instead of interacting with the patrons this night. Seeing a person in the kitchen out of his peripheral nearly gave him a heart attack. When he turned his head to see who it was, he was surprised to see that it was Bow. “Bowie, what are you doing there, darling? You should be sleeping.” His tone was soft and didn't sound as if he was scolding her for being awake. Upon getting closer, the basilisk realized that the young girl seemed a little down. He noticed that Bow Kid was rather shy in the little time he managed to interact with the kids, but she had been fairly open to him. “Is something bothering you?” Bow flinched ever so slightly and shook her head.
“No, I just couldn't sleep and my throat felt dry, so I went to get a something to drink.” She forced a smile like she had done many times before, but just like Hattie, he saw right through it.
“I can see that you're worried about something, darling, I can see it.” It was written on her face plain as day. Her shoulders were slouched and she was trying to smile to trick him into believing that everything was okay. “Maybe I can help you, Bowie, that dour appearance doesn't suit a young girl like you.” He gave her smile and sat close to her, hoping that the young girl would open up and not reject his attempt to help her.
At first it looked like the changeling didn't want to speak up, and the two sat in a rather uncomfortable silence until Bow took a deep breath. “Am I...a burden?” Bow's defeated tone and lowered head nearly broke the heart of the DJ, he nearly recoiled at the horrible inquiry.
“Of course not, Bowie, how did you come to that conclusion?-” His tone got a bit sharper and anger snuck into his voice. “-Did the Conductor tell you that?!”
He calmed down slightly when Bow shook her head and answered him. “No, I...I just feel like I'm not contributing much.-” She turned to face him, her eyes glistened with tears, “-Hattie has her magic and is training hard to get better at it, and Mu is very strong...I can't do nothing helpful.”
The basilisk couldn't help but carefully and gently pull Bow Kid into a hug. “Oh Bowie...you're part of this family, Bow, this isn't about being useful, we won't abandon you just because you can't help us against the hunters. It's not your job or Hattie's or Muriel's to fight them anyway.” Bow started to cry softly, and he tried to soothe her by stroking over her curly hair.
“But...but I can't do anything right! I'm a danger by not being able to control my color shifting and my horns and tail poke out too!-” She was starting to nearly hyperventilate. “I can't even read right! I'm useless!” Her small body was starting to tremble, her tears dripping onto his red jacket.
It was painful to see this poor girl so wrecked by an inferiority complex. After everything she had gone through already, after everything bad people had put her through, she now was tormented by her own mind. DJ Grooves could feel his own tears fall, due to being a basilisk, they fell as tiny pebbles. “Please...please don't say that ever again, darling,” He put a hand under her chin and pushed it up so that she'd look at him. “Listen closely, Bowie. You're far from useless. You may not notice it, but you're incredibly strong, you've been tormented by evil abominations your whole life up until now, yet you escaped, and more importantly, you haven't lost your kindness. You kept on caring about your sister, tried to defend her from us to protect her when we first met you, and now you're even trying to help us. You don't have to try so hard to be useful. Just do your best and we'll be proud of you, I know I already am.” He gave a bright and cheerful smile and was happy when Bow gave a small hint of a smile back.
Her voice was still shaking and she was sobbing, “Really? You are?” He nodded and pulled her a bit closer.
“Of course I meant it, darling. I'll try to help you if you need help in school, I did promise Cookie that I'd help after all.”
Bow suppressed a sob. “Thank you, Grooves.”

After the past 5 days, I swear I need a holiday or at least a few months worth of sleep.
Not ready to go into Friday/Saturday, but since then Sunday Hattie’s PEG became partially dislodged. We tried to get it in a few times at home but because the last couple of times it’s taken a general anaesthetic and scopes we then had to make the 1.5 hour drive to the children’s hospital. Luckily it went back in fairly easily on this occasion.
Monday, Hattie was fine, went to kinder, came home and was still being her silly self. Then suddenly started vomiting, which continued every 15 minutes all night.
Vomiting continued on Tuesday, made contact with her treating team at the children’s hospital, as it was something we were warned to keep an eye on with her PEG issues. Nope, she started throwing fevers, and kinder contacted me and let me know that another child had vomited at kinder today so there seemed to be an illness going through. They knew we still weren’t sure if it was PEG related or gastro. After this news, speaking to Hatt’s treating team, and added symptoms we decided it was gastro/stomach bug. Yay!
We went to give her a cool bath and realised what we thought was a mozzie bite earlier had turned into welts covering from her lower back down to her thighs. When you’ve seen your child almost die multiple times it’s hard not to jump to panic that she’s going to die! So we took her to urgent care, by which time she also had welts over her arms and legs.
Yep, this was unrelated to both the gastro and PEG issues, so poor darling has managed to cop three different medical issues in three days, the last being an allergic reaction.
We have no idea what she’s allergic to, as she’s only had hydralyte and paracetamol all day and both she’s had before. So will have to keep an eye on environmental contacts also in the coming weeks.

Ottomas House, Day 85, Part 7
Ed: I hear Mr Laid Back now has a serious girlfriend! How did she talk you into that?
Ed: You're not getting away without a hug, either, you sly dog! How long had you and Beth been dating before you popped the question?
Theo: Uh... long enough?
Ed: So does this mean you're finally over my sister, then?
Gabe: What do you mean, finally? Hattie and I only dated a couple of times, in middle school. It'd be weird if I wasn't 'over her'.
Theo: Hey babe, this is Edison - we've been friends since Kindergarten. Ed, this is Beth, my fiancee.
Yep, Ed started that smustle and then walked away.
Ed called up a social group consisting of his two oldest friends and went on a campus wander.

B1 C10: Firepaw Has An Awkward Reunion
By the following morning, … And be kept awake all night by those mewling kits! I’d rather get wet!” Yellowfang growled.
Nutmeg thoughtfully narrowed her gaze. Why was Yellowfang so against kits? It was strange.
Firepaw watched her circle stiffly on her mossy bed. … “Thank you, Firepaw,” replied Yellowfang quietly, settling down again.
“Is...is she feeling alright?” Tommy whispered. “Is she sick?”
“I don’t know…” Filou meowed, staring in shock at the screen.
Firepaw felt stunned. … “Well, don’t just stand there like a startled squirrel; go and fetch some moss!” she snapped.
“Whew!” Tommy sighed. “False alarm! World’s not gonna end!”
Firepaw’s whiskers twitched with amusement. … “Sorry, Speckletail,” Firepaw mewed. “Are you on your way to see Yellowfang?”
“Somehow...I don’t think so.” Nutmeg meowed.
“What would I want with that unnatural creature?” replied Speckletail crossly. “Actually it’s you I was looking for. Bluestar wants to see you.”
“I wonder what it’ll be about?” Taylor mused.
“Maybe about his training,” Crystal suggested. “Like I said before, he’s only been hunting. Maybe soon they’ll be doing some fighting.”
Firepaw hurried toward … “It is time for you to return to your training, Firepaw. But you’ll need to work hard to make up for time you have lost.”
“Called it!” Crystal meowed.
“Great! I mean, thank you, Bluestar!” … Bluestar told me that Tigerclaw is going to assess us today. Are Sandpaw and Dustpaw coming too?”
“Stars, I hope not!” Ruby exclaimed. “I don’t want to hear about them again!”
“Whitestorm and Darkstripe took them … You’re Tigerclaw’s apprentice, after all. When he reports back to Bluestar, he’s going to want to tell her how good you are.”
“It’s nice that he’s encouraging Ravenpaw.” Nami meowed.
“You can never tell with Tigerclaw,” … “Lionheart and I have spent the last few weeks trying to teach you how to hunt decently,” he meowed. “Today you’ll have a chance to show me how much you have learned.
“So...no fighting practice yet?” Crystal rhetorically asked. “Figures.” She wanted to see her youngest grandson kick butt once more.
Each of you will take … “Ravenpaw, you will follow the trail beyond the Great Sycamore as far as the Snakerocks. That should be easy enough for your pitiful skills.
“Great way to boost his confidence.” Jake meowed sarcastically.
You, Graypaw,” … You [Firepaw] shall take the route through the Tallpines, past the Treecut place, to the woods beyond.”
“Wait, isn’t that by the town?” Socks asked. “Why’s Tigerclaw sending Firepaw there?”
Firepaw nodded,... “Oh, he’ll be okay,” mewed Graypaw. “Not even an adder would be fast enough to catch Ravenpaw at the moment, he’s so jumpy.
“I do hope he’ll be alright!” Nutmeg meowed.
I’d better get going. … A movement caught his eye. It was a mouse, scrabbling through the pine needles.
“Go get it!” Nami meowed.
Remembering his first lesson, Firepaw dropped into the stalking position, keeping his weight in his haunches, his paws light on the ground.
“His stance is perfect!” Jake exclaimed proudly. Crystal nodded in agreement.
The technique worked perfectly. The mouse didn’t detect Firepaw until his final leap. He caught it with one paw and killed it swiftly.
“Perfection!” Crystal meowed.
Then he buried it, … One lap of that muddy trench water and he’d taste the monster’s foul-smelling tracks for days.
“Yeah...that’s not a good idea.” Hattie meowed, wrinkling her nose.
He decided to wait. … These were the woods that bordered the Twolegplace. He must be very close to his old home now.
Smudge frowned. Didn’t he and Firepaw meet after he joined ThunderClan? This was starting to sound like it...
Ahead Firepaw … He stopped, crouched, and inhaled deeply. The smell was unfamiliar; it was a cat, but not a ThunderClan cat.
Smudge blinked. Yep, this was it.
Firepaw felt his fur bristle … One more heartbeat; then he leaped. The black-and-white cat jumped into the air, terrified, and raced away through the trees. Firepaw gave chase.
Gave me a heart-attack! Smudge thought.
It’s a kittypet! … With the blood roaring in his ears, Firepaw leaped onto its back in a single bound.
Smudge silently sighed. That had hurt.
Firepaw could feel the cat struggling … This soft, plump house cat, with its round eyes and narrow face, looked very different from the lean, broad-headed cats Firepaw lived with now.
“That’s to be expected.” Crystal meowed.
And yet something about this cat seemed familiar.
“Really?” Hattie asked. “Who could it be?” Smudge determinedly stared at the screen.
Firepaw stared harder. … Then it came to him. “Smudge!” he meowed out loud.
“Smudge?!” Hattie exclaimed. She gave the black and white cat on screen a closer look. “It is you! Why didn’t we notice it?”
“Don’t know,” Cody meowed.
“Huh.”
“H-ho-how d-d-do you know my n-name?” stammered Smudge, still crouching. “It’s me!” Firepaw meowed. The house cat looked confused.
Smudge flattened his ears. “He looked very different from the last time we saw each other!” he meowed defensively. Hattie licked his ear.
“We know,” she meowed.
“We were kittens together. … [Smudge] Or are you living with new housefolk? You must be, if you’re still alive!”
“Oh, ye of little faith!” Tommy sighed dramatically. Smudge buried his face in his paws. It was embarrassing seeing himself acting so clueless.
“I’m called Firepaw now,” … “Well, Firepaw, it looks like your new housefolk don’t feed you enough! You certainly weren’t this scrawny last time we met!”
Luna gave Smudge a dead-panned look. “It’s the kibble. Definitely the kibble.” Smudge buried his face even deeper.
“I don’t need Twolegs to feed me,” … “I suppose you’re used to the smell of those wildcats now.”
“That’s likely.” Oliver meowed.
Firepaw shook his head, as if to clear his mind. “But we were kittens together. I should know your smell like I’d know the smell of my birth mother.”
Nutmeg sighed softly.
Then Firepaw remembered. … “You’ve been to the Cutter!” He gasped. “I mean, the vet!”
“Oh!” Taylor exclaimed. “That’s why Firepaw had a hard time remembering!”
Smudge shrugged his plump black shoulders. … What’s it like, living wild?” … He thought about mouse bile and clearing away Yellowfang’s dirt, and trying to please both Lionheart and Tigerclaw at once during training. He remembered the teasing he suffered about his kittypet blood.
“Yeah, those aren’t the greatest moments.” Filou meowed.
Then he remembered the thrill of his first catch, of charging through the forest in pursuit of a squirrel, and of warm evenings beneath the stars sharing tongues with his friends. “I know who I am now,” he meowed simply.
Smudge nodded his head, in complete understanding of his old friend’s choices.
Smudge tipped his head … “And stay alert. There may be another cat in the area who is not as fond of kittypets—I mean, house cats—as I am.”
Smudge shivered at the thought of Tigerclaw - because who else could Firepaw be referring to?
Smudge’s ears flicked nervously at these words. … I’ll find a finch or two here, he decided. Then I’ll catch something else on the way back through the pines.
“I caught a finch once!” Nami meowed proudly.
He felt bursting with energy after meeting Smudge … Now he just needed to impress Bluestar and Tigerclaw, and the day would be perfect.
“This was a pretty good scene.” Ruby murmured to Socks as the screen faded out. Socks flicked an ear.
“Yeah,” he agreed. “But I have a feeling the next one is gonna have something bad in it.” Ruby paused, considering her brother’s words.
“Let’s hope not.”

June 11, 3027
Addie’s foot tapped against the floor. Her eyes stared at her phone. Over each and every name and information. Three names. Three names were all she had left. She needed to remove two more, yet there was no way to do so without further action. She couldn’t wait any longer. She pulled out her communications app, and went straight to Chase’s contact. She quickly typed in the chat. “Do you have any idea on how to remove one of the names from the list?” She pressed send, and almost immediately a bubble with three blinking dots to go over. “I have an idea. Why don’t you record something in his room? That way you can see if he says something incriminating you can remove a name. You have ample opportunity.” The text read. Addie smiled as she lept off of her chair. She raced to her door to see Elliot walking down the stairs. She made a quick, yet quiet dash to Elliot’s room. She opened the door before closing it just enough to appear shut. She made sure her phone was on silent, her headphones were disconnected. She placed it on record, making sure the flash was also off before looking around the room. She looked at a half bare bookshelf, and noticed a few photos. She grinned as she placed her phone behind the two photos before sprinting out. She shut the door quietly, and sprinted down the hall to her room. She quickly darted inside it before peaking out as Elliot walked back up the stairs with Evan by his side, and food in their hands she smiled as she crept back in her room. She quickly ran up to her bed and looked at her toys. She noticed a magenta and purple stuffed bear she had named Hattie. She grabbed it, and hugged it. “So Hattie in order to not be suspicious we must pretend to be going on an adventure, or something.” Addie said as she looked at the bear. “Wait! You haven’t seen me play Mario Kart!” Addie exclaimed. She grabbed the bear and rushed down the ladder. Out of her room, and down the stairs. There weren’t very many people in the living room or kitchen. Either they were in their own room, or at work. The only people there were Robin, Chase, Jessica, and Rain. “Excuse me.” Emily said as she slid past Addie. “Oh sorry.” That’s when Addie took notice of how Emily was dressed. She was wearing a yellow button up shirt over a white tank top, a dark gray skirt, and a pair of white socks, and a pair of dark gray shoes. On her back was a black bag. “Why are you dressed like that?” Addie asked as Emily turned back around. “Oh I have to go to court for something.” Emily said as Addie raised a brow, and watched as Emily left the house. Addie shrugged as she walked over to the couch and sat down next to Chase who handed her a controller. Addie put Hattie on the “So we just wait until dinner.” Addie whispered. “Yep.” Chase replied as he placed his phone to his side. The game was already set up for two players. Leaving for the two to go ahead and pick their characters. Addie moved her controller over to Princess Daisy. While Chase moved his over to Link. He pressed the A button and the two picked their carts, and a map before beginning the race. So far the race was going smoothly. Well smoothly if you were Chase. As he was now in the lead. Addie reached down in her pocket to pull out her phone. Only to remember she didn't have it on her. She sighed as she could've sworn she could feel the soft foam pressing against her ears. Covering them from all the world had to offer. Then a ping rang out. At first she paid no attention to it. Afterall everyone in the room had their phones on them. That was until she caught some movement from the corner of her eye she looked over at Chase.

Pokemon crack
Haruka calls Lan and Mega
Lan: hey mom!
Haruka: Lan, I need you and Hub's help with something
Lan and Mega: ????
Haruka: there's a strange Pokemon in my garden, or I think it's a Pokemon. They seem to made their selves at home, but I don't know if they're dangerous or not.
Lan: does it seem aggressive?
Haruka: no, but I don't know much about wild Pokemon. Hatty (the Hatterene, Haruka named her) is teleporting to pick you two up now.
It was a Flamigo... He was not dangerous, now lives in their garden as both decoration and "security system"
Haruka caught him, but he prefers to be outside
That’s really funny
Haruka: What is it?
Lan: It’s a flamigo
Haruka: Is it dangerous?
Lan: Only if you anger it like other wild Pokémon
Haruka: Hub will you talk to it please?
Mega: *nods*
Mega comes back after a minute of communication
Mega: He says he feels comforted here and wants to stay
Haruka: That’s it?
Mega: Yep
Haruka: Oh…okay

Mason and Wren post hatty? Pretty please with a cherry on top? *puppy dog eyes*
u know what anon, ask and u shall receive bc i’m just so proud of mase
three for you - mason mount
Out of everyone watching the Chelsea game, Mason included, Wren was the most excited about her fathers very first club hat trick. She’d almost fallen from her seat when he’d scored the final goal, her scream out matching everyone else’s and she’d jumped up and down in front of Lewis so much that she’d stomped on his toes.
Her little hands clapped together excitedly, half her words babbled incoherently while she pointed down towards the pitch. She held her arms out for you to pick her up, her neck craning so she could see more, fingers locked in the back of your shirt.
“Daddy! Look, daddy!” Mason’s face was being broadcast on the scoreboard after his goal and Wren didn’t seem to know whether she wanted to watch her actual dad or the image of him on the screen.
“Yeah, baby, look at daddy. He told you he’d score for you didn’t he?” Wren nodded her head, still pointing down towards the pitch and you pressed a kiss against her head, knowing she was waiting for the final whistle to go so you’d take her down to the pitch.
The second the whistle blew Mason was searching the stands were you usually sat, gaze looking for the familiarity of his two favourite girls. The two of you were already on your way down the stairs, Wren practically dragging you along behind her, her hand gripped right in yours. He made his way over to the two of you, bright smile on his face and watched as you lifted Wren over the barrier, his daughters face lighting up when she spotted him.
Mason’s heart exploded in his chest when she took off at a run towards him, her soft giggles and shouts of “daddy” getting lost in the roar of noise at the bridge. Wren launched herself at him and Mason caught her with a laugh, one hand cradling the back of her head. He caught sight of you still standing on the other side of the barrier, Lewis just making his way towards you and knew you’d wait there until Wren came back.
“Hey, Birthday Girl.” Wren gave a soft little laugh and reached up to cup Mason’s face between her hands, her smile almost identical to his making his stomach feel fluttery.
“You scored!” She held up three fingers in front of his face, waving them around until they were just a blur. “Three. Three. Three. Three. Three.” She sung happily, her head rocking back and forth along with her words. He shifted her in his arms so she was balanced on his hip and brushed his fingers through the loose strands of her hair.
“You know what it’s called?” Wren tilted her head to the side, brows drawing together a little and then she nodded when she suddenly remembered.
“A hat trick! Mummy said you got a hat trick.”
“Clever girl. Three goals all for you.” He kissed the top of her head, unable to keep the smile off his face when Wren returned the gesture with a wet kiss against his cheek.
“Three goals for me. Because it’s my birthday.” She dragged out the last word, tilting her head back a little and Mason tickled her neck until she squirmed and hid in his shoulder.
“Yep, three goals for the little princess.”
“Four goals for the little princess because a certain birdie told me you were four today.” Ben came up behind Mason and tapped Wren on her foot. Her head popped up at the sound of her uncle’s voice and her grin got even wider, her hand reaching out to pat his cheek lovingly.
“You scored too, Uncle Benji.”
“I did, for you, just like daddy. Because if daddy scored three and I scored one, how many did we score?” Wren wrinkled her nose at the maths question and how easy it was and bounced a little on Mason’s hip.
“Four.”
“And how old are you today?”
“Four.” She giggled and Ben nodded, leaning in to kiss her forehead, hand pulling a little Peppa Pig themed cupcake from behind his back.
“Happy birthday, princess.”
“What do you say to Uncle Benji?” Mason asked before Wren could start eating her little cake.
“Thank you, Uncle Benji. Do you want some?” She held the cake up a little but Ben shook his head with a soft laugh.
“It’s all for you.” He gave her one last kiss to the head and then clapped Mason on the shoulder, grin just as bright as it had been all afternoon. “Meet you in there, Mase.” Mason just nodded, attention focused on Wren as she bit into the top of her cake.
“Are you happy about your goal, daddy?”
“Of course I am and I’m happy you got to watch. Which one was your favourite?” He could see people setting up the interview background and knew he’d be doing one but he didn’t want to leave Wren, he was happy with having her in his arms.
“The first one. When it went through that man’s legs like WHAM and then it went into the goal. The man behind us kept shouting and saying naughty words and Uncle Lew thought it was funny.” Mason clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth in a playful manner and shook his head.
“Uncle Lew is naughty isn’t he?” Wren just nodded, swiping her finger in the top of the icing on the cake and holding it up in front of Mason’s mouth.
“You have to taste some because you scored and you should have something nice.” Mason let out a huffed laugh but licked the bit of icing off anyway, Wren giggling when he pretended to bite her finger off.
“Hey, Mase.” Both Mason and Wren turned at the sound of his name to see Jorgi making his way over, signed ball in hand and Mason grinned, lifting the hand the wasn’t holding his daughter up and high diving the captain. “Congratulations, man, you deserve this.”
“Cheers, mate, really.”
Wren was eying the ball curiously, her gaze darting between that and Jorgi who grinned at her, lifting his hand again so she could high five him and she did with a laugh.
“My daddy scored three goals.”
“I know he did. He’s amazing isn’t he?”
“And he did it for my birthday.” Jorgi gasped dramatically and Wren nodded her head. “I’m four.”
“Four? Well aren’t you all grown up, I think you should have this ball instead of your daddy.” Jorgi passed the football to Wren and she smiled while trying to grab it with one hand, Mason helping her hold it up. She frowned at the scribbled words, looking up at Mason.
“What does it say?”
“Just congratulations on the match.” Wren let Mason hold the ball while she ran her finger over the words and Jorgi watched her with a grin.
“You did amazing, Mase, really well done.” Like Ben he clapped him on the shoulder and then started to walk towards Kai and a few of the other boys. “And happy birthday Little Mount.”
“Do we get to keep this one?” Wren asked, hitting her hand lightly on the top of the ball. She was still eating her cake and Mason had to use the sleeve of his under armour to wipe away the crumbs around her mouth.
“We’re gonna take it home and frame it somewhere.”
“I like that.” She took another large bite out of her cake, her eyes locking on Mason’s and then she sent him a toothy smile, cake covering her mouth and teeth in a way that had Mason laughing. “Mummy said she was proud of you but I’m prouder. You’re the best daddy in the world and I love you to the moon and back.” She said it so nonchalantly, still chewing on her cake but it meant everything to Mason and made his heart flutter.
He’d scored his first ever Chelsea hat trick and had done it on his daughters birthday and he knew it was definitely a day you’d all remember forever. “Well, I love you to the moon and back twice, baby.”

Chap. 3-Sleepover
Hey! I’m excited to write this chapter for you all!
So this chapter has minor spoilers for Omori in case you haven’t played it yet. If you have, I guess you know where I’m going with this.
Thanks to my beta reader @gigilefache
Enjoy!
~~~~~
It was a typical afternoon, the school had ended for the day, and Hat, Bow, and Basil decided to stick around and watch Kel and Mu play basketball. Hat Kid was keeping score of the tied game.
“Here it is. The final round.” Kel narrated as he bounced the basketball. “Me, Kel! The best athlete in the school! Against Mu, the toughest girl in school!” As he explained, Mu smirked ready to take on Kel. “Who will win this epic basketball once and for all? We’ll see.”
Aubrey came by and saw Kel and Mu having their basketball game. She walked over and sat between Bow Kid and Basil. “Hey, what’s going on?” She asked.
“Kel and Mu are playing basketball.” Bow Kid told her. “Hattie’s keeping score and it’s tied.”
Aubrey noded. “You can do this Mu!” She yelled.
“Hey!” Kel yelled. “We’ve known each other longer! Why not cheer for me?”
Aubrey chuckled in reply.
“Don’t worry! I’ll cheer for you Kel!” Bow Kid yelled.
Kel smiled proudly. “Aww, thanks Bow!” He turned to Aubrey. “See, someone respects me!” He yelled. Aubrey rolled her eyes in response.
Mu and Kel started their game. At first, Kel was fast and was about to throw the ball into Mu’s basket before Mu took the ball and dribbled it before jumping and throwing it into Kel’s basket.
“And the crowd goes wild!” Hat Kid yelled. She and Bow cheered as Mu dribbled the ball and smirked at Kel, who felt his pride had been destroyed by being beaten by a 9-year-old.
“Thank you! Thank you!” Mu beamed. Basil went to Mu and took a photo of her. The photo came out and he went to the bench to put it in his album. Mu then passed the ball back to Kel.
The latter gave a sigh and a small smile. “Good game kid.” He said.
Mu smiled, “thanks!” She replied. The two shook hands before Kel saw it was time to go home.
“Well, you guys have a good weekend!” Kel yelled. “Come on Basil!” Basil nodded, gathered his stuff, and followed Kel to head home.
“See you guys later!” Basil yelled, waving bye to his friends.
“Are you ready to go to Mu?” Aubrey asked. Hat Kid and Bow Kid gathered all their stuff and were ready to go, but Aubrey stopped them.
Mu nodded. “Yep!” She said, grabbing her backpack.
Aubrey then turned to Hat Kid and Bow Kid. “You two want to come with me to drop off Mu?” She asked.
Hat Kid and Bow Kid turned to look at one another. They had nothing else to do other than relax and finish homework. “Sure. I mean it is Friday.” Hat Kid replied.
“Then let’s get going,” Aubrey said. The four girls started to make their way towards Mu’s place as the sun started setting and the moon was just shining. They soon made it to Mu’s two-story house.
Aubrey knocked on the door and the girls didn’t wait too long until an orange cat opened it. “Aubrey!” The cat beamed, seeing the older girl. “Thanks so much for dropping off Mu again.”
“Hey C.C.” Aubrey said. “It’s no problem. I don’t mind taking Mu home.”
C.C. smiled and ruffled the older girl’s head making her blush in embarrassment. The cat then turned to see Hat and Bow giving them a smile. “So you two are the Hat and Bow I heard Mu talk about?”
“Yep!” Hat Kid beamed.
“Well, I’m C.C. Mu’s caretaker.” She introduced herself. “Would you two like to stay for dinner?”
“Sure!” Hat and Bow agreed at the same time.
“Aubrey, would you like to join us tonight?” C.C. asked.
Aubrey thought for a second. “Sure,” She replied. The three girls went inside and Hat and Bow were in awe at the house.
“Like it?” Mu asked.
“It’s like a doll house.” Hat Kid whispered.
“Well, you girls, get comfortable. I'm gonna finish making dinner.” C.C. told them.
“Okay!” Bow and Hat replied at the same time. Aubrey went over to the couch and turned on the TV. Hat and Bow sat down with Mu joining them a second later.
“So, Hat and Bow.” Mu started. The two aliens looked at their friend. “Since it is the weekend. I was wondering if you’d like to sleep over tonight?”
Hat and Bow smiled, and without thinking, they said, “Yes!”
Mu smiled and then turned to Aubrey. “Are you gonna be spending the night too, Aubrey?” She asked.
Aubrey chuckled. “I’ve known you for seven years. Of course, I’ll be spending the night with you.” She replied.
“You’ve known Mu for that long?” Hat Kid asked.
Aubrey nodded. “My friends and I met her when she was only 5 years old.” She explained. “You barely changed.”
Mu grumbled. “You’re the one who changed a lot.”
Aubrey chuckled before giving a frown. She did realize she changed a lot over the years, some for the worse. She would rather not talk about it, at least not now. Bow Kid noticed the frown, but quickly Aubrey gave a smile to cover it up. Bow decided to not ask about it, and the girls relaxed, and watched TV before dinner was ready.
Once dinner was ready, C.C. announced that she cooked the girls broiled salmon with fried potatoes. The girls sat down and ate dinner. Mu, Hat, and Bow talked about school today and how Mu won against Kel in basketball.
C.C laughed at the story and turned to Aubrey who was silent and eating dinner. She was paying attention to the story, giving a smile from time to time to show it.
“Aubrey!” Mu called out.
“Huh?” Aubrey looked up.
“You’ve been quiet all night…Again.” Mu pointed out.
Aubrey sighed. “Sorry. Just tired.”
“Come on, how was school for you today?” Hat Kid asked. “We’re in the same homeroom, but different classes.”
“I guess I can talk about Science class,” Aubrey said. “It was okay, I found out that the school hired three sisters for the science teachers and all three didn’t know what to teach. So Michael decided to roast marshmallows on the burner.”
Mu chuckled. “Again. Really?” She asked.
Aubrey chuckled. “Yep.”
“Anything else?” Mu asked again.
Aubrey shrugged. “Same old same old. I guess.” She replied as she took a bite of her salmon. “Well, you can say Kim is trying to find new members for our squad. She got one girl, but…she was weird.”
“What squad?” Hat Kid asked. “Is it a cool kids squad?”
“You could say that, but you're too young to join,” Aubrey replied.
Hat Kid puffed her cheeks. “I’m not that young.” She grumbled. Aubrey chuckled and ended up finishing her dinner. Once dinner was done C.C. gave Hat and Bow some spare Pajamas that they can wear tonight and they went over to Mu’s room to read before falling asleep.
“You have so many comics!” Hat Kid beamed. She scrolled through Mu’s shelf of comics and pulled out one that featured a female hero.
“And manga,” Mu added.
Bow and Hat Kid were confused and looked at each other. “What’s Manga?” Bow Kid asked.
Mu’s eyes widened but quickly forgot that her friends were aliens. “They’re comics, but it’s from Japan, and it goes backwards.” She explained. Hat Kid and Bow Kid’s eyes widened upon hearing about this interesting book.
“Read as many as you want. As long as you don’t rip them.” Mu said as she grabbed one of her favorite manga, which was about Red Riding Hood, but as a magical girl, and relaxed on her bed.
“What’s that one you're reading?” Bow Kid asked.
“Oh, this one?” Mu asked. “It’s Red Riding Hood, but she’s a superhero!” Bow and Hat got close as Mu explained the story to them. Aubrey passed by and smiled seeing the girls bond and get along. She then went back on the couch and saw C.C. had already set up a pillow and blanket for her. “Thanks C.C.” Aubrey whispered. She went to the couch and got herself comfortable as she continued to watch TV.
A few hours later, C.C. went to check on Mu and saw her asleep with Hat Kid and Bow Kid. The book Mu was reading was still in her hands. C.C. smiled and went over to Mu and took the book out of her hands. She then put a bookmark on the book before setting it down on the desk, shutting off the lights, and letting the girls sleep.
C.C. then went to check on Aubrey and saw she was still awake. “Aubrey,” C.C. said. The older girl looked up at the cat chef. “Is everything okay?” She asked.
“Yeah, I just can’t sleep,” Aubrey replied.
The chef cat then sat next to Aubrey and fiddled with her paws. “So have things gotten better at your place?” C.C. asked again. Aubrey looked at C.C. before turning away and shaking her head. C.C. sighed, “Aubrey, I know your home life isn’t the best, but you don’t have to spend the night. You can live with me and Mu.”
Aubrey sighed. “I wish it were that easy.”
C.C. put her paw on Aubrey’s arm. “Just letting you know. I’m here for you, okay.”
“Okay.” Aubrey replied. C.C. gave a small smile as Aubrey leaned into her shoulder and rested on it. Soon enough Aubrey was asleep. C.C. slowly moved and let Aubrey rest her head on the pillow. She then pulled the covers close to her and shut off the TV. “Night Aubrey.” She whispered as she went to her room and got some sleep.
Ok so what sbout remus/sirius being too sick to go to an away game so the other one has to go alone, and then tons of facetime conversations and "get well soon" videos from the team?
This is related to this fic about Remus and Finn bonding over terrible reporters--hope you enjoy! SW credit goes to @lumosinlove, and the Loops/ Talker bonding is for @lee-1012!
TW for illness
“You don’t look so good.” Remus frowned as he held the inside of his wrist against Sirius’ forehead. “And you definitely have a fever.”
“Non.” Sirius sat up on his elbows with a groan, then almost immediately flopped back down.
“Yes.” He leaned back on his heels and checked the clock—they had two hours before they had to be at the airport. “Baby, I don’t think you should—”
“ ‘m going.”
“It’s not a good—”
“Gotta go. Games.” Sirius cracked one glassy eye open. “Two weeks away. I’ll take the first couple days off.”
Remus sighed through his nose and brushed his sweaty hair out of his eyes. “You shouldn’t go on the plane if you’re sick. Not just for your sake, but for the rest of us. We don’t need everyone to come down with this.”
He received a halfhearted glare in response, but Sirius finally huffed and curled on his side to nuzzle against his thigh. “I’m gonna miss you.”
“I’ll miss you, too, baby,” Remus said quietly, bending to kiss his temple. They hadn’t been apart for that long since before he was a player, nearly a year prior. Hell, he had never played a game without Sirius, let alone two weeks’ worth. “Lily will check on you, okay?”
Sirius mumbled an incoherent response and cuddled closer when he began combing his fingers through his hair. The second alarm beeped, loud against the quiet of their bedroom; time to go, he thought ruefully. Sirius touched his knee as he started to stand. “Love you. Be safe.”
“Love you more.”
“Love you most.”
“Go back to sleep,” Remus said as his heart clenched. “I’ll let Coach know what happened, but you’ve got to rest and take care of yourself. Hydrate or die-drate, yeah?”
“Yeah. Love you.”
“Sleep,” he repeated, kissing his forehead once more before hauling himself out of bed and tucking the covers around Sirius’ shoulders. “I’ll be back before you know it.”
------------------------
The clouds were a soft, pastel pink around them as the sun rose—Sirius’ favorite. If his phone was correct, Lily would be there soon to let Hattie out and make sure Sirius wasn’t pushing himself too hard. The thought brought Remus a bit of relief, but not enough to quell his concern.
Talker poked his forearm, snapping him from his reverie. “What’s going on?”
“Just worrying.”
“About Cap?”
Remus waved a hand vaguely. “And Hattie, and Lily, and whether he’s got a cold or something worse. Feels weird being here without him.”
Talker hummed his agreement and offered one of his earbuds. “Want to listen to half of Bohemian Rhapsody with me? It’ll give you five minutes and 55 seconds of relative peace.”
“It’s too quiet,” James groaned just before he pressed ‘play’.
Across the aisle, Remus saw Kasey roll his eyes. “Your husband is sick, dude, not dead. He doesn’t talk to you on planes anyway.”
“It’s the principle of the thing, Bliz.”
“Oh my god,” Kasey muttered under his breath, securing his headphones tightly over his ears.
James let his head flop to the side with a baleful look. “Loops, you’re on my side, right?”
“I’ve got you, buddy,” he assured him. Talker stifled a laugh, and the opening chords began as more clouds rolled past. Remus let himself drift with them, taking deep breaths to soothe his worries; Sirius would be fine. He had the sniffles, or at worst the flu, and he would be join them for the second week in top form. There was nothing to worry about.
---------------------------------
“He’s got pneumonia,” Lily sighed.
“He what?”
“A mild case, but the doctor said it would take a week of antibiotics and rest before he’s close to a hundred percent. No hockey for about a month, too.”
Remus stared at the wall of his empty hotel room, lost for words. “Well, fuck.”
“Yeah.”
“Fuck.”
“Pretty m—absolutely not, go lay down.” There was a rustling noise and two grumbling voices. “Sorry about that.”
“Will you put me on speaker real quick?” Remus asked, pinching the bridge of his nose until he heard a faint click. “Sirius? You there?”
“Yes! I miss you, and I was just going to tell you that it’s really not that—”
“Please sit your ass down. Lily, if he tries to fuck around and find out exactly how nasty pneumonia is, you have full permission to sit on him. I miss you too, love,” he added after a short pause.
“He’s blowing you a kiss,” Lily informed him. “Oh, and he’s giving me the puppy eyes.”
“Resist if you can. Love you both. Give Hattie lots of cuddles from me.”
“We will,” she promised.
The second the call ended, Remus groaned aloud and thumped his head against the wall before padding down the hall. Just my fucking luck. The door swung open after the second knock; Arthur’s face fell. “How bad is it?”
“Mild pneumonia.”
“Fuck.”
“Yep. Doctor said he’d be out for a month.”
Arthur rubbed his eyes and nodded, motioning Remus back towards his own room. “Get some rest, then. I’ll let everyone know in the morning. Any idea how he got it?”
“Not a clue.”
“Thanks for the update, Loops. Sleep tight.”
“I will,” Remus lied as he headed back for a sleepless night between cold sheets.
----------------------------
Lily sent updates every few hours; most reported that Sirius was sleeping well and looking better with each passing day, but Remus couldn’t help but feel overwhelmingly guilty. If something happened while he was hundreds of miles away, he would never forgive himself. He had sworn in front of their closest friends and family to be there in sickness and in health—what kind of husband ditches their partner for one of a million roadies?
This one. He stabbed a piece of broccoli and shoved it in his mouth. And then he goes and makes an idiot of himself for the world to see.
The interview was supposed to be easy, but he couldn’t let it roll off anymore. Not when he couldn’t answer their questions even when he wanted to, not when he was states away from the love of his life while he was sick, not when he felt helpless and shoved aside in every current aspect of his life.
“So.” The chair next to him creaked as Talker planted his full weight in it and set his plate decisively on the table.
“What.”
“Oh, pissy Loops. Haven’t seen you in a while. Talked to Cap yet?”
“Yeah.” Another piece of broccoli fell victim to his frustration.
“How’s he sound?”
“Better.”
“Sweet.” Talker continued to munch away on his dinner. “Anyone ever told you that you have the general disposition of a wet cat when you’re upset?”
Remus tried and failed to keep down a smile. “I seem to recall you bringing it up on occasion, yes.”
His dark eyes softened and he bumped their elbows together. “He’ll be okay.”
“I know.”
“Really, Loops. Cap’s going to be just fine. Lily doesn’t sugar-coat this kind of stuff, and he’s a tough guy. Mild pneumonia doesn’t stand a chance. Besides, we’ve only got four days left and we need you to kick some ass out there.”
If Remus was a little more emotionally vulnerable, he would’ve burst into tears. Instead, he settled for leaning his temple against Talker’s with a quiet ‘thanks’ and allowed himself to be pulled into a side hug. Across the dining hall, Finn shot him a thumbs-up and a wink. “Love you, man.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever,” Talker teased. “The internet is already coming to your aid, you know.”
“About…?”
“Not only have those asshole reporters become a new meme, you’ve also got a shit ton of people bringing up past mistreatment of athletes in the press room. You’re the face of a revolution, Loops.”
“I’ve been the face of too many revolutions for one person,” he groused, not even bothering to duck out of the way when Talker ruffled his hair.
“Well, one more won’t kill you.”
---------------------------------------
Remus’ heart raced as he stepped off the plane. The logical part of him knew that Sirius would be waiting outside the security gate, but everything else screamed to see him now, now, right now so he could be sure he was alright. At least he had sounded healthier on the phone the night before—Remus wasn’t sure what he would do otherwise.
“Deep breaths,” James reminded him as they walked toward the baggage claim. “I’m sure he’s—”
An excited shout broke through the thick crowds. Remus’ heart skipped a beat, and then he was running, racing through the people that parted for him as his vision tunneled. His carry-on hit the ground with a low thud that he hardly heard as Sirius lifted him straight off the ground and held him tight.
“I love you,” Remus said immediately, locking his ankles around Sirius’ lower back and squeezing his eyes shut. “Are you okay?”
In lieu of a response, Sirius pulled back and kissed him, cradling one side of his face in his warm, warm hand. Two weeks may as well have been an eternity. He broke away after a moment, searching his face for any signs of illness or pain. “I’m fine,” Sirius said softly, as if he could read his mind. “I promise. A little tired and sore, but there’s no lasting damage.”
“Don’t do that again,” Remus said into the side of his neck as he hugged him close. He smelled like home. “Not when I have to leave.”
Sirius’ arms were steady around his back. “I won’t.”
“I’m going to grill you on everything as soon as we get home.”
“I know.”
“But right now, I’m just going to hug you because I missed you and I worried myself into a hole, like, every night.”
He could feel Sirius’ smile against his shoulder. “I know.”
Subcon Babysitter Chap. 2-Baretina, Ribbon and Mane
Here is the next chapter! I was gonna upload this Friday, but my dog passed away and I just didn’t feel like uploading anything the next few days. I’m doing better, but writing will be slow the next few days because of that and what I said in the last update with work.
In some good news, thank my beta reader, @gigilefache for coming up with the names of the girls. Except for Ribbon as that was the first name idea I came up with.
Big thanks to @gigilefache again for being my beta reader!
Enjoy!
Snatcher was still floating speechless seeing the three young girls in front of him. The girls looked at each other and looked back at Snatcher.
“Uh…you okay?” The hatted girl asked.
The ghost snapped out of it and cleared his throat. “S-sorry, anyways,” Snatcher changed his tone of voice. “What are you brats doing in my forest?” He asked.
“We came to see you.” The child with the hat replied.
“Huh?” Snatcher questioned.
The young girl giggled. “I guess we should introduce ourselves first. I’m Baretina.” She introduced. “My mom was your BFF.”
Snatcher’s eyes widened. “So she isn’t some look-a-like?” He thought. “So you’re the kiddo’s, kiddo?”
“Yep,” Baretina beamed, “and this is Ribbon, and Mane!”
Snatcher was in shock, seeing that the girls he used to know had settled down and had kids of their own. He didn’t even have to ask whose kids were who. He was in awe of the girls, but the regret was still in him, realizing he missed everything in those girls' lives from their graduation, to their wedding, and seeing these new girls born.
All because he was a Peckneck.
Mane, the goateed girl, tilted her head in confusion seeing Snatcher going quiet again. “Are you okay?” She asked.
“Y-yeah,” Snatcher lied, incredibly wide-eyed, “I’m just surprised you kids even exist.” He let out a nervous chuckle. “So, what brings you girls here?”
“Well, our moms are all gone on a mission and we need someone to take care of us, so Auntie Hat told us about you and sent us here.” Ribbon explained, fixing the bow on her head.
Baretina then removed her hat and started to dig through it and pulled out an envelope. “This is for you.”
Snatcher took the letter and opened it using his claws, unfolded the piece of paper, and started to read.
Snatcher,
Long time no see! I hope you still remember me?
Listen, Bow, Mu, and I are on a very important mission and we have no one to watch our girls. You were the only person I know that could watch them. The mission won’t be long, about a few weeks or so. Don’t worry, the girls aren’t too much of a hassle. If you could handle us then you can handle them! Hope to see you soon!
-Hattie
Snatcher sighed and looked down at the girls who were waiting on what Snatcher was going to do next. “Well, guess you girls are stuck with me for a while, so I’m gonna lay out some rules.” He started. “Number one, never go near the manor!” Snatcher’s voice got louder as he pointed at the manor in the distance. “Number two, everything else is fine but you have to sign a contract.”
“What for?” Ribbon asked as she crossed her arms.
“To make sure you understand the rules, and it’s been a while since I pulled a child into a contract,” Snatcher replied, snapping his fingers as a contract popped up. It floated towards the girls along with the quill.
Baretina quickly grabbed the quill and signed her name, she then saw there was only one line and smiled as she drew two extra lines. She then gave the quill to Mane, who signed her name next then gave the quill to Ribbon who did the same.
Snatcher then took the contract and sighed seeing his contract being edited again, but he’ll let it slide since it’s three souls and one piece of paper. “Alright, that seals the deal!” He beamed. “So now that’s settled, are there any questions?”
“Can we park the ship here?!” Baretina asked.
“Yeah, I’ll show you where to land it,” Snatcher replied. He froze realizing what he just said, but before he could change his mind the girls had beamed back up to their ship ready to land it. Snatcher sighed and whistled loudly as three Subconites came in a flash. “Get the Fire Spirits, I have a ship to land!” He told them.
The Subconites gave a salute and said together, “Yes sir!” before they ran off and grabbed the Fire Spirits.
Snatcher sighed and he pinched his temple. “Why,” he whispered, “why them! It could’ve been any kid from a different planet! Why their kids!” Snatcher turned to the photo of Hat Kid. He wiped a tear and let out another sigh. “Don’t worry kiddo, I won’t make the same mistakes.”
“Who are you talking to?” A Subconite asked.
Snatcher squeaked and turned around to face his minion. “N-no one!” He lied.
“Well, the Fire Spirits are waiting for you.” The Subconite replied.
“I’ll be right there.” The Subconite nodded and dashed off. Once Snatcher was alone again he took one more look at the photo before floating off to help the Fire Spirits land the girl’s ship.
The Fire Spirits glowed as the ship slowly landed down in an empty clearing. However, the second the ship was inches near the ground it landed with a slam, which pushed everyone back.
Back on the ship, Baretina laughed after landing the ship. “I always wanted to do that!” She beamed.
“And please…” Ribbon groaned. From the landing, it looked like Ribbon and Mane fell on each other. “Don’t do it again.”
Baretina chuckled. “Sorry.” Baretina helped her two friends up and they got off the ship. The girls were soon greeted by Subconites, Dwellers, and Fire Spirits who were so happy to see the girls arrive. “I wasn’t expecting this kind of welcome party!” Baretina beamed as she ran and introduced herself to everyone.
Snatcher gave a smile seeing the kids and his minions getting along. It was almost like Hat Kid and her friends came back. “Well,” Snatcher spoke up as he clapped his hands together, which got everyone’s attention. “If you guys want to have fun with the kids, go nuts!” He announced.
If the Subconites had faces they would’ve all smiled in sync with Baretina and her friends. Before Snatcher knew it, all of the Subconites were carrying the kids as they went off to play. He chuckled as it brought back memories of how Hat Kid and the minions would play together.
Those memories made Snatcher frown as he slowly sat down on a nearby rock, watching the Subconites have fun with the kids.
They played all day till nighttime and at that point, the kids were tired and ready to get some sleep. Snatcher was already asleep but was woken up hearing the door to the girl’s ship open. He saw them walk in and decide to follow them.
Snatcher’s eyes widened as the ship reminded him of Hat Kid’s ship from the colors, to the layout. The only difference was there were two extra doors leading to Mane and Ribbon’s rooms. He decided to check on Baretina’s room first and saw the young girl in her pajamas looking at a framed photo.
“Hi, kid,” Snatcher spoke up.
Baretina looked up. “Oh hi Snatcher.”
He floated on by and he smiled seeing a photo of Hat Kid, all grown up and holding her daughter. Snatcher saw how much Hat Kid has grown. Her hair was now short, and now wore a purple trench coat and dark brown boots. He smiled seeing how much his little girl has grown.
“Do you miss my mom?” Baretina asked.
Snatcher’s eyes widened, but he couldn’t hold it in any longer. “Yeah, kid. I do.” He replied. Snatcher sat next to Baretina and put his arm around her as they looked at the photo. “You know, you look just like her when she was your age.”
“I get that a lot,” Baretina replied.
It went silent between the two as Snatcher had to think of what to talk about with the kid. “Did you know your mom and I had a fight?”
“Yeah. You stole her soul and hat and battled it out.”
Snatcher snickered. “Your mom was one tough negotiator but she was still a kid, sweet, silly and had one big imagination.” He explained remembering Hat Kid. Everything he thought of felt like yesterday.
“I wish she was still like that,” Baretina whispered. Snatcher looked down at the young girl as she snuggled closer to him. “She’s been getting busier and busier every day, and she doesn’t have time to listen to what I want to talk about.” She explained.
Snatcher frowned and anxiously thought that it was his fault that Hat Kid became that way. Though seeing the photo made him realize that Hat Kid is a good mom, just a busy one. Snatcher was about to speak but heard Baretina snoring as she fell asleep.
The soul stealer felt his eyes swell with tears remembering the nights Hat Kid would sleep with him like this. He held the young girl close to him as he slowly closed his eyes. “Night kiddo.” He whispered.
It felt like forever since he said those two words.
Red Dwarf for latest ask meme, of course. 😁
Thank you! :D
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
Of course it's self-described space bum, Dave Lister. He's such an appealing mix of cute and unexpectedly tough. He's friendly to all but takes no shit and is loyal to the death if you're part of his crew. Ever since I saw him refuse to shoot an (so he thought) unarmed simulant in "Justice", he's been my fave. (Quite possibly before that but this was way back in 1990 and that memory stands out to me.)
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
This is also Lister tbh but if it has to be someone else, then KK1. She's just so cute.
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
Hattie's Holly. Bring her back! Just one ep, for smeg's sake.
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
Well, he's only in one ep but he does get mentioned a handful more times so yep, it's Todhunter. I don't like the information we get about him in "Duct Soup" but it's Series VII so I ignore it. :p
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
Who else? Arnold Judas Rimmer, the man who can make you want to hug him one minute and slap him the next. ;)
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
Tempted to say Rimmer again because he's so uptight but if it has to be a different character - hmmm, why not Ackerman for being a sadistic, corrupt screw.
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
I was tempted to say various irritating minor characters but actually, the one who probably deserves it the most is Rimmer's "Dad". His Mum's nearly as bad but at least she didn't record a message for Arnold to open if he ever became an officer, instantly spoiling the moment by letting him know that he was actually the illegitimate child of their gardener Dungo (not that there's anything wrong with that in my book but it's exactly the kind of thing Arnold was brought up to consider shameful). Add the way his influence can still be seen in Rimmer's obsession with becoming an officer and off to superhell the bastard goes.
Happy Friday Omni! Shaw siblings embarassing each other please?
Hello friend! I love seeing those three embarrassing the shit out of each other!
~~~
Hattie let out a pitiful groan as she buried her head further into her folded arms. She was practically curled against the table as she tried to block out Deckard's voice
"And here she is when she was about four. She was so upset I wouldn't let her play with a knife, she stayed like that for at least an hour!"
She didn't have to look up to know he was showing a picture of her as a child. Specifically when she had a habit of hiding on top of the fridge when she was angry
"Oh! What's this one? She looks so cute!"
It didn't help at all that Ramsey seemed to be loving every second of the whole thing
"This one? Now, this has a very interesting story..."
Quickly looking up, Hattie spotted a picture of her, around eight years old. Her younger self was completely covered in mud and holding a baby pig
"Why do you still have that?" Hattie snapped
"Because you look adorable!" Deckard sent her a toothy grin. It was obvious he still had dozens upon dozens of pictures to show off
Putting her head back down, Hattie had to wonder if her mother would help his body once she murdered him for this
---
"I swear, Owen," Letty rolled her eyes as she watched him. "I give you something shiny, and it'll distract you for hours."
Owen glared at her, looking up from the pure golden coin she had given to him
"I'm not distracted by shiny things." He huffed indignantly
"Hmm, I wouldn't be so sure."
Owen frowned as Deckard walked in, a tray loaded up with a tea kettle and cups in his hands.
"What do you mean?" Letty asked, moving a pile of coins out of the way so Deckard would set the tray down
"When he was just a babe, he swallowed a particularly shiny marble."
"Deck!" Owen hissed, cheeks blooming red immediately
"What?" Letty laughed. "What happened with that?"
"Doc didn't want to cut him open just yet, so we had to keep checking his nappies for the marble."
"Would you shut up?!" Owen growled
"Quit it, Oh." Letty snapped. "Did it come out?"
"Yep. Didn't hurt him, but we made sure not to let the little bugger near anything shiny for a while."
Letty's laughter filled the room, making Owen throw several coins at Deckard's head. Which he dodged expertly
---
"I'm going to murder them!" Deckard hissed lowly, and felt Luke's hand squeeze even tighter around his
"Deck, it's fine. They're just have a little fun." Luke whispered, rubbing his other hand down Deckard's back
"They brought a bloody powerpoint of all my past lovers to my wedding!" Deckard snapped
He couldn't keep his eyes off the large images playing across from him. All the pictures showed very saucy images of him and his past lovers. He didn't even know where they had gotten those pictures!
"They're just teasing you." Luke soothed. "Little brothers and sisters love messing with their big brothers."
"I'm still going to murder them!"
"Can you at least promise me that you'll kill them after our honeymoon?"
Deckard was silent for a long moment, Luke was almost worried the man would jump over the table and attack them at that minute
"Fine." Deckard huffed. But his glare didn't diminish at all
~~~
I hope you enjoyed friend!
