#Away in a Manger

As a small child I spent years thinking Jesus was actually the Christ’s surname and his first names were “Little Lorr” because my parents were extremely secular and the only exposure I had to Christianity was through Away in a Manger at Christmas.

My parents found this out when I drew the Holy Family for a Christmas card at school and conscientiously labelled each figure as “Mary Jesus”, “Joseph Jesus”, “Little Lorr Jesus” and, of course, “Clover Jesus” the donkey, because the donkey was clearly a member of the family.

This was complex because my supposedly secular primary school was actually *exceedingly* Church of Scotland and thus was filled with teachers who tended to take my actually innocent, if extremely autistic, tendency to ask a lot of clarifying questions when something didn’t make sense to me - and, frankly, Christian theology is not exactly simple, straightforward, or particularly logical without doing a crash course in 2000 years of world history - as me taking the piss.

Does anyone from the UK who watched Cartoon Network remember these Christmas marathons where they had parodies of carols about the cartoons. i’ve only been able to find the Ed Edd n Eddy We Three Kings one (starts at 0:11), but there was a Powerpuff Girls O Little Town of Bethlehem (Oh Little Town of Townsville, How still we see thee lie, When evil rears its ugly head, the Powerpuffs fly by) and a Dexter’s Laboratory Deck The Halls.
