This 1965 Ford Mustang fastback (Chassis 5T09A146475) is built for spirited road performance with a Terlingua paint scheme found much less often than the Shelby stripes commonly seen on modified fastbacks. The build sheet is impressive, with a dyno-tuned 302, Tremec 5-speed, 4-wheel disk brakes, Cobra Automotive suspension, and a stiffened unibody. The original A-code 289 and 4-speed transmission are included (needing rebuild), and the car is a turn-key driver with a aged patina that makes it perfect for road events
This car was originally delivered to the state of Florida and discovered in North Carolina wearing its original time-faded body panels and interior. The seller says that the car is amazingly fun to drive, partially because there is no power steering, power brakes, A/C, or radio. We had the same list in our ’65 fastback, and so did the ’65 Shelby cars before they were softened in ’66, and wouldn’t do otherwise if we have one again. Mechanical enhancements from Cobra Automotive are as follows: ■Big spindle kit w/larger bearings (as per the Trans Am cars) ■Billet aluminum racing hub kit ■Deep Trans-Am lug nuts ■Rollerized coil spring pivots ■Road race coil springs (600 lb. with polyurethane spring insulators) ■Koni adjustable shock absorbers w/Koni urethane bushings kit ■Competition front cross member (used on the Boss 302 Trans Am cars) ■Super duty tie rod end kit ■Quick steer kit w/frame pin and rollerized bearing kit w/idler arm pitman arm ■Competition master cylinder upgrade with stainless steel brake lines ■Adjustable brake proportioning valve ■Competition front & rear disc brakes ■Adjustable brake push rod ■Roller bearing steering kit ■Stage 1 Road Race Rear Suspension ■Shelby style under ride traction bars ■Lowering blocks (1 inch) ■Competition kill switch (battery) ■Rotunda racing mirrors ■GT 350 hood pin kit; Other upgrades include: ■Control Freak Suspension upper & lower control arm set ■Torque Thrust aluminum wheels ■Sub-frame connectors ■Heavy duty racing clutch ■1-inch competition front sway bar ■Halogen head lights (Tri-bar) ■LED tail lights ■Battery relocation to trunk ■Electrical rewire (Ron Francis Retro kit) ■Headlight wire mesh stone guards;
The engine was built on a 1992 302 roller block and was broken in on the dyno and tested at 300hp and 315 lb-ft of torque. It has 3000 miles since the rebuild at West Carleton Automotive in Ottawa, Canada, and was assembled in the style of the ’65 Shelby GT 350 with black painted block, Cobra valve covers, hi-po 14″ air cleaner assembly, and ceramic coated Tri-Y headers. Other details on the build include: ■Hot tank and mag tested parts ■Sonic inspection on block ■Align hone ■Pedestal rockers ■E303 roller cam ■Roller lifters ■Eagle connecting rods ■Speed Pro pistons ■Speed Pro oil pump and pick-up ■Clevite cam bearing set ■ARP fasteners ■True roller timing set ■MSD electronic distributor ■140 amp heavy duty alternator ■Heavy duty fuel pump ■K & N air filter ■Competition high capacity oil pan ■4 core aluminum radiator w/ electric fan ■Dual exhaust with Shelby type glass pack mufflers matching revs. There is also an alarm and kill switch installed
The car still features the original seats, headliner, and door panels, and is fully original apart from the new original style carpet and one arm rest. The fold-down rear seat remains intact and a quality wood steering wheel from Tony D. Branda has been added. The dash has the R-model instrument panel with AutoMeter tach, speedo, fuel, water temp, amp., oil pressure, and volts gauges, as well as a competition oil pressure warning light. The ’65 Shelby radio block-off plate means the driver gets to concentrate on matching revs. There is also an alarm and kill switch installed.

SEMA is a hard show at which to properly appreciate cars. On one hand – it’s a show overflowing with some of the best builds you will see all year. On the other hand – it’s that same overflow that makes it almost impossible to keep your wits about you. It’s almost too much of a good thing. In a sea of thousands of cars, I feel like some inevitably get lost. The great thing is: The cars that are truly memorable, the cars you are talking about weeks and months after the show… are cars which rise above the temporary flash-in-the-pan Instagram fame. Some cars deserve to be immortalized. More than digital noise or passing fancy, they draw their inspiration from the timeless. The classic.
This 240Z certainly qualifies as one of these cars. While it has some innovations and forward thinking design elements, it also honors the tradition and legacy of Datsun’s Z car heritage. Car owner Dennis wanted a Z that could be as menacing on the street as it was on the track. In looking to manifest his dreams into reality, he was fortunate enough to meet aspiring builder Kyle Kuhnhausen. Kyle is a fresh out of business school automotive entrepreneur with a penchant for metal work. Ok, more than a penchant… he has a gift. From the paint scheme to the heavily gusseted cage, this car is well thought out & beautifully executed. How well executed? Well, when we talked he made sure I knew that the LS swap was a place holder engine until they built something truly epic for under the hood. WOW. Some place holder.
Let’s take a moment and revel in my three favorite aspects of this car.
First)
There is the paint scheme. Nimbus Grey (or battle ship grey in some parlance) has to be my personal favorite hue on show cars. It’s rich, it allows shadows to adopt a deep dark over tone, and light reflections to be silvery & pronounced. Every truly beautiful design looks amazing in this color. So… win number one? CHECK! The Peter Brock homage striping is as evocative and respectful of the Z’s motorsport heritage as it is a tasteful modern touch of racer bravado. I dig it. Those famous side stripes actually start on the hood at the vents and then cascade over the fender and down the side forming the Brock stripes we are all familiar with. A killer design cue that is at once forward thinking and period correct. Nicely done.
Second)
Let’s talk about that metal work. The Aero is mean, functional, and gives the car a seriously provocative stance. What’s more – it’s designed to just rip/break away cleanly in the case of a momentary lapse in driver skill (for example paying a visit to say, China Beach at the end of the straight at Mid Ohio). Well played Kyle, well played. However, as fantastic as that aero is, it is nothing compared to the beautifully executed roll cage. Meant to be a street car that can participate is serious track time… it had to be a car from which Dennis could easily get in and out. Kyle kept the safety high by fabricating one seriously artful, yet stout, fully gusseted integrated cage. Take a few moments and look at the cage in this car. I have severe race car envy. My race car has race car envy. Seriously. It is so good that it easily merits adjectives like superlative, excellent, exemplary. Bravo.
Third)
And this is one where so many cars sort of take a pass… the gauge cluster. When a car has track day toy duties, it’s easy to just pick up a digital display, mount it up, and just call it done. Not in this car. The cluster in this car is 13 individual pieces of aluminum lovingly hand shaped into what you see before you. It honestly called to mind some of the extreme and bespoke modern interpretations currently en vogue built around the Porsche 911. The Singer cars being the most notable, they take an air cooled 911 and massage every aspect of the car… and polish, preen, & refine it until it is absolutely jewel-like. The perfect 911. Well, that’s where this Z took me. It’s like a really nice 240Z… only polished to the highest possible degree. Everywhere you look there are tasteful touches. This instrument cluster exemplifies that. The angle at which it is canted toward the driver, the alignment of it inside the MOMO wheel. It’s absolutely glorious.
So yeah, this car is one of the highlights of last year’s SEMA show. It truly was. Bespoke modern takes on past classics are hot right now. Cars like the Singer 911s are fetching 500k and more per unit, so it makes builds like this kind of a serious proposition. Get it right and the value and classic status is legitimate. In the end, Dennis can drive this car on the road or the track, confident in the fact that he found the perfect enthusiast to execute his vision. And he can rest well in the fact that he’s now driving the Singer of Datsun 240Zs.

Long story short, I’ve never been the biggest fan of Royal Enfield motorcycles, even though I learned to ride on one. Sure, it was big, burly and entirely different from the rest of the econo-commuters available in India when I was coming of age, but that wasn’t saying much. When it came time to buying my first bike – a critical time of flux for me personally – it was a toss-up between a Machismo and the fast, dangerous, economically suicidal RD350. With all that was going on in my life at the time, I didn’t want to compromise. I wanted what I wanted. I bought the Yamaha, met a girl, married her, met many credit cards, spent them all on the bike and twenty years later, the story continues. Well, mostly.
The Meteor 350 that I’ve been riding is the successor to the Thunderbird, which was by all accounts, a great success for Royal Enfield. To me, however, it was a bit awkward, pretending to be something it was not – a proper cruiser. From the spy shots that have been floating around the Internet, the Meteor looked much the same, but I’m happy to say that it isn’t. Not by a long shot. Unlike previous models from the legendary manufacturer, the Meteor only borrows an old marque; everything else is quite new.
Royal Enfield is cool (again?)
The myth, aura and credit due to Royal Enfield motorcycles, frankly, are a product of fortuity. The Bullet tugs at the heartstrings because it has always been there. It has endured nearly unchanged for half a century, and even the most Vulcan of rational thinkers would succumb to nostalgia when talking about that old 350 or 500 their uncle/friend/lover had at some point. But in the last decade or so, there’s been a sea-change in the way the company looks at, and projects itself. Walk into a Royal Enfield showroom and it feels like a lifestyle brand. The apparel and gear are carefully curated, and go with the ethos of their retro/classic motorcycles. As does the dapper CEO, who made the pitch for the new bike in a cinematic video shot while he rode the bike in bright red gloves and boots. The film too had the right tone, look and messaging. It feels aspirational, not agrarian.
That’s not to say that RE has gone so far upmarket as to lose touch with the machismo that they so incite. On my way home with the bike, I was accosted by two lorry and one rickshaw driver, all of whom knew that this was the Meteor and it was to be launched on the sixth of November. Enfield comms department: take a bow.
The Meteor 350 is an all-new motorcycle
Knowing Royal Enfield’s history, it is hard to stress this enough. The company is steeped in tradition, and that can hold things back against the march of progress. But time carries on, and with it have come many sweeping differences in the new motorcycle. The Meteor uses a new frame, an entirely new engine, new switchgear, lighting, ergonomics and tech. India’s strict BS6 emissions norms have meant tectonic shifts in the Indian automotive space, and 2-wheelers are no exception. The new 349cc motor forms a strong base for what is likely to be a raft of future motorcycles. Gone are pushrods, replaced with a single overhead camshaft. Primary drive is now geared, there’s a balancer shaft to keep things smooth and the gearbox is slick and traditional (with a shifter on the left side).
The frame has two down-tubes now, cradling the motor, but not quite. The engine is not a stressed member of the chassis. Suspension is traditional, but beefy. 41mm forks up front, with twin shocks at the back. The rider triangle is laid back, with forward-set footpegs that put your weight roundly on your bum, and the torso in a tall, commanding position.
If you don’t know what all this means, think of it this way: the old Enfields felt like a coalition government, while the Meteor 350 feels more like a benevolent dictatorship. Things are tight and run together as a unit. It feels like any other motorcycle, with no excuses needed about ‘character’.
A word about tech
As a (mostly) tech journalist, this was the biggest surprise to me. Royal Enfield has supplied a secondary display unit called the ‘Tripper’ on all variants of the Meteor 350. The screen serves as a turn-by-turn navigation unit when paired with your smartphone. It is excellent. Traditionally, I expect very little in terms of tech from an automotive manufacturer. They just seem tone-deaf most of the time. Not so with the Tripper. It is excellent in execution, and as RE is at pains to explain, provides only the information you need and nothing more.
Once you plot a route in the Royal Enfield smartphone app – which uses Google Maps as a base – you simply punch ‘Navigate’ and turn-by-turn directions are displayed in the little pod to the left of the main console. Arrows indicate the direction of your route, and supplementary, minimal info informs you of lane suggestions. The routing is smart enough to let you know specifically when to take the road below the flyover and not climb it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to mix laxative in the KTM watercooler for their garbage navigation.
This is very, very new for the Royal Enfield we know. Considering that this is a first attempt, and it gets so much right, I’m excited to see what they do next!
The Meteor 350 looks like an old motorcycle
The design of the Meteor is far too similar to that of the outgoing Thunderbird series. In fact, all the spy shots over the past few months made it look like a sticker job more than a new motorcycle. While the lines are more refined, I think Royal Enfield perhaps missed an opportunity to make this otherwise fresh motorcycle stand out.
A cursory glance hides so much that’s new. The double down-tube frame, for instance, is easily missed. The side profile is very familiar, as is the characteristic shape of the frame. It is clearly intentional, and in this case, very conservative. The rake is a degree tighter and the rear mudguard quite thick, giving the impression of a stubby, squashed motorcycle, not the laid-back cruiser vibe they’re selling.
One must give it to them for attention to detail, however. Everything does flow quite nicely. I was particularly impressed with the rider’s view. The handlebar grips are retro, as are the clutch and brake levers. Even the console, while a hybrid analogue/digital unit, doesn’t look out of place. Royal Enfield is quite proud of their rotary toggle switches as you’d have had on old British motorcycles. It just doesn’t work as well on the left side for the passing switch. More on that latter. All in all, impressive once you pay attention, as the company hopes their faithful will.
The Meteor 350 goes like a modern motorcycle
... or a close approximation of one, considering what it is. Sticking to its heritage of making a tried-and-tested 350cc motor, Royal Enfield has taken very calculated steps into 2020 with this venerable warhorse. To pass BS6 legislation, the motor now uses a modern, traditional valvetrain and a catcon to keep the smoke clean. They’ve even managed to retain some (but not all) of the iconic thump that one expects of a Bullet variant.
On the go, things feel tight, cohesive. The front and rear aren’t telling your mind different things at the same time. Twist and go, really. I found the Meteor 350 to be exceptional in the city, betraying none of its 191kg wet weight. The fuel injection feels accurate, not lean and edgy, so your right wrist is in harmony with the progress of the bike. It feels light, almost nimble in traffic, and the suspension makes short work of rough roads. The general consensus seems to be that the Meteor feels stiff to aid handling, but this was not my experience. The 19” front wheel adds to it’s rough road readiness.
The 20-odd horsepower propelling this mass won’t deliver relaxed triple-digit cruising, but the 27Nm of torque ensures that you never really want for extra poke in the city. Overtakes and launches from traffic lights are now possible, not just noisy. The engine does start running out of steam past 100kmph so while it’s going to be better than its older 350cc brethren, it’s still not a fast mile-muncher. And most will tell you that it isn’t supposed to be. As a relaxed highway cruiser, it will work fine, I think, especially two-up.
The new motor will surprise you with its refinement more than its performance. The primary balancer shaft ensures a surprisingly vibe-free experience, even as the revs rise and you go faster. This should make for a more comfortable long-hauler, since your hands and feet will tingle less than on earlier Royal Enfield motorcycles. It’s nowhere as smooth as their twins, however. Brakes are okay. The discs are a generous size and get the job done, but feel is lacking from the front. It does its thing but conveys little. The ABS is dual-channel, so no pinching paisas here.
There are some compromises for form against function on the Meteor. The switchgear is wonderfully retro, but you need your thumb to flash your high beam. This means you can’t honk and flash at the same time, something many do for extra safety. The levers too have this period look to them, but they’re not kind on thin fingers like mine. And while the plush seat feels comfortable at first try, with forward-set footpegs, there is no chance of taking any weight onto your legs. Spotted a nasty pothole too late? Get off the brakes and brace for spinal compression. Your back will take the brunt of impact right through your tailbone. I heard this feedback on more than one occasion, but it’s part of the whole foot-forward cruising design. It’s a thing. It’s just not the ideal thing.
The Meteor 350 can be specifically yours
Available in three variants: Fireball, Stellar and Supernova, the bikes are identical save for paint schemes and accessories. Ah, the accessories. So. Many. Accessories. Royal Enfield offers the top variant with a windshield and pillion backrest, and you can pick from no less than six accessory mufflers, each with a different sound and look. No more raiding the aftermarket for loud (illegal) exhaust units, which can be a liability in some states with aggressive policing. Thankfully, the excellent ‘Tripper’ navigation system is standard across variants.
Apart from the Interceptor 650, there isn’t another Royal Enfield motorcycle I’d rather ride than the Meteor 350. It’s a nice, rewarding ride with few compromises. I’d just as quickly jump onto it for a short trip around town as my KTM. For longer journeys, the only thing holding me back would be its lack of speed.
The Meteor 350 is based on an all-new platform, one that will be the base of many future models. Starting at Rs 1.76 lac, buyers can now comfortably indulge their Royal Enfield fantasies, without making too many excuses to their friends who ride bikes that start every single time. The smiles and appreciation from lorry drivers are free.

Powershifting transmission
Power shift transmission is used for transferring power into a manual vehicle which is also known as auto-manual transmission.
Which is a six-speed dual-clutch transmission so mainly is used for the good and high speed.
It provides smooth shifting and also improves efficiency. Even according to 2020 estimate that many numbers of the car fitted with Power shift transmission will expand other countries such as America and Europe cause this show good efficiency power compare to another automatic transmission.
And the best review for Power shift transmission is many cars like Volvo also adept that new power shift.
It is comprising with various type of wet clutch pack that contains disc which placed together by using a hydraulic piston which is also made up of springs.
It also provides smooth shifting by changes its gear automatically and precede the next shit and provide gear changes quickly which is an example of good delivery of smooth shifting power.
it is also very durable and assemble with extremely low maintenance .it is also use a friction device which is used to coordinate with the input speed and selected gear during change.
Power shift having various kind of structured unbroken torque from the dual-clutch which is comprised of two manual parallel transmissions in which one gear control the 1,3,5 gear and other one gear control the 2,4,6 which is work as the normal auto manual transmission
From the above line in which we are talking about six-speed clutch which means it provides the speed of these six which is functioning as reverse gears and forward gears and majorly shift transmission make use of three clutches and two brakes which turns it into that six-speeds.
Power shift transmission also contains advantages like fuel economy and rate shifts which is very useful in shifting transmission.

New 2021 McLaren 765LT Arrives with 755 HP, Less Weight, and 0-60 in 2.7 Seconds
McLaren promises significantly better on-track performance and more driver engagement with its latest Longtail supercar.
McLaren, like several other automakers, hasn't let cancelation of the 2020 Geneva Motor Show impinge on its plan to introduce the latest member of its lineup—and the latest addition to its Longtail series of cars. Meet the 2021 McLaren 765LT, a supercar that takes the already impressive 720S and, McLaren promises, transforms it into a much sharper and more-focused mega-performance weapon.
2021 McLaren 765LT Performance Numbers and Specs
Building upon the previously well-regarded 720S, the 765LT gets a 45-hp bump to McLaren's M840T 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, bringing its maximum output to 755 horsepower; torque increases from 568 lb-ft to 590 lb-ft. McLaren says the car will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds, from 0-124 in 7.2, will potentially cover the quarter-mile in less than 10 seconds, and will reach a top speed of 205 mph. The seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox features revised gear ratios McLaren says contribute to 15-percent quicker in-gear acceleration compared to the 720S, helping the 765LT to produce "the quickest lap times of any McLaren Super Series model."
McLaren also says the 765LT trumps the already blisteringly fast 720S in the weight department, by more than 150 pounds, with a curb weight of 2,963 pounds when fully fueled. The weight reduction comes courtesy of a slew of carbon-fiber used for body pieces; a titanium exhaust system that is 40-percent lighter than an equivalent steel system; an interesting Formula 1-grade transmission feature; thinner window glass; and motorsport-style polycarbonate glazing for the panels that replace traditional glass. A new LT aerodynamic package is crafted completely from carbon fiber, including the front splitter, front bumper, front floor, side skirts, rear bumper, rear diffuser, and larger "Longtail" active rear wing.
2021 McLaren 765LT Body, Suspension, Brakes, and More
In fact, that active rear wing, rear bumper, and front floor are all designed, engineered, and created at the McLaren Composites Technology Center; McLaren says this car marks "the first use of MCTC-produced carbon-fiber body components in a McLaren road car."
In terms of mechanical grip/performance, the 765LT boasts its own specific springs and dampers, a 6-millimeter-wider front track, a 5-millimeter-lower front ride-height, and new software programming for its hydraulic Proactive Chassis Control II suspension system. Additional similar items of note include 10-spoke forged wheels, titanium wheel bolts, custom Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R track-oriented tires, carbon-ceramic discs, and brake calipers from the McLaren Senna. Also relevant in the braking department, McLaren says the 765LT features "F1-inspired, integrated caliper-cooling ducts."
Hold on, you say, what was that about F1 gearboxes? According to McLaren, the 765LT's "pinion and crown wheel within the transmission final-drive are formed from 20NiCh, a high-performance nickel chrome that is more commonly used within F1 rather than road cars but provides the ideal balance of weight and specification for use in the 765LT's transmission." Even if there was no performance benefit, we're sure most owners would happily pay the baked-in price premium for such materials engineering, just to be able to flaunt it to other gearheads during Saturday Cars and Coffee appearances.
2021 McLaren 765LT Aerodynamic Upgrades
Along with the tires, we expect the 765LT's improved aerodynamic downforce to play as big of a role, if not the biggest role, in improving lap times compared to the 720S. In our real-world experience, the latter has lost out in this department to cars like the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and even the Chevrolet C7 Corvette ZR1; McLaren says the 765LT produces up to 25-percent more downforce than the 720S. And there's some fun aero trickery at play, too, as the movable rear wing works in various ways: as a downforce generator when it is deployed partially when the driver pushes the "Aero" button during cornering; as a drag-reduction element when retracted for straight-line speed; and as an air brake/downforce generator activated automatically during full-on braking scenarios. McLaren points out that the wing's static position—higher than found on the 720S—provides more downforce at all times, even with the wing "retracted." The company naturally promises we'll see a big difference in lap times on high-speed, high-downforce racetracks.
2021 McLaren 765LT: What It All Means
Impressive as the on-paper numbers and specs are, and as much as we've previously praised the 720S, we look most forward to experiencing McLaren's promise that the 765LT significantly elevates driver engagement. It's not that the 720S isn't mightily impressive—it is, especially its stunning straight-acceleration—but when it comes to driver engagement and feeling a connection with the car, more of that is always a welcome improvement. McLaren insists it has listened.
"The 765LT is the most accomplished and exhilarating LT model ever," says McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt. "Incredible performance and astonishing levels of driver engagement—the result of 100s of detailed engineering actions undertaken to ensure the purest possible connection between driver and car—are the standout attributes of an LT developed with single-minded determination to deliver a wholly immersive driving experience to those who secure one."
Other examples of what McLaren incorporated into the car in pursuit of an immersive experience are a steering setup with a quicker ratio and a stiffer torsion bar than the 720S, and main springs "with additional helper springs to reduce unsprung mass and maintain load in the suspension on full rebound. The use of two springs saves weight in comparison with one larger dual-rate spring." Meanwhile, roll stiffness increases in an effort to improve high-speed stability. And for drivers who plan to spend a serious amount of time running the car on racetracks, there is an available brake upgrade that includes the same carbon-ceramic discs found on the McLaren Senna—along with 765LT-specific brake pads that are allegedly "60-percent stronger than conventional carbon-ceramic discs, with four-times the thermal conductivity—and therefore [significantly improved] heat management."
Inside the cockpit, the 765LT continues the modern McLaren tradition of a simplified, motorsports-inspired environment; it includes carbon-fiber seats, center tunnel, and floor. In the name of the weight-saving theme, the car comes standard without an audio system or air conditioning, but customers may of course specify the addition of each at zero cost.
Speaking of cost, McLaren says it will soon confirm pricing for the 2021 765LT; a base price in the $350,000-range is likely a reasonable prediction. McLaren says deliveries will begin in September, but act fast even if you have the coin, as the company will build only a model-name-matching 765 examples of the 765LT.

New Post has been published on https://www.rkcars.my/design-review-saab-aero-x-concept-2006/
Design Review: Saab Aero-X Concept (2006)
For this Design Review we go back to 2006 to examine the Saab Aero-X, a concept car that introduced the new design language used on the last production models from the Swedish automaker.
The Aero-X was launched at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show where it stood out amongst the most impressive exhibits. After all, a concept car from Saab wasn’t something common, especially if we are talking about a stylish grand tourer with an aircraft-style cockpit canopy!
But before we move on to the design, let’s talk about the running prototype’s technical specifications.
It was built on a monocoque structure with a body made entirely of carbon-fibre. Under the bonnet, lurked a twin turbo 2.8-litre V6 BioPower engine delivering 298kW (400 PS) using ethanol-based, sustainable biofuel.
Power was sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. As for performance, the front-mid engined sports car could accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds while top speed was electronically limited to 250km/h.
At the same time, the electronically controlled coil over suspension (double wishbones at the front and multilink at rear) ensured a balanced ride between handling and comfort, while 380mm ventilated discs provided the stopping power.
From its conception, the Aero-X was always intended to be a design exercise. At the time, parent company General Motors wanted a stunning concept to introduce the latest design language of Saab and inaugurate its new design centre in Sweden.
The design team was headed by Anthony Lo (Director of Advanced Design GM Europe), with Alex Daniel as the lead exterior designer and Turin based G-Studio responsible for building the actual prototype.
The concept car had the proportions of a classic grand tourer, with a long bonnet, small overhangs and pronounced wheel arches. But perhaps its most stand-out feature was the cockpit canopy, with one-piece wraparound windshield and side windows, and the absence of A-pillars providing 180-degree visibility for both occupants.
The whole structure together with the doors opened upwards and sliding forward, allowing easy access to the interior and serving as a direct reference to the brand’s connection with the aerospace industry (the automobile sector of Saab was founded in 1945 by Saab AB, an aerospace and defence company founded in 1937 and, unlike the car company, still going strong today).
At the front, the concept was characterised by a long bonnet sitting lower than the fenders while it featured aggressive LED headlights with integrated air vents, enlarged grille and a sporty bumper with large intakes. The clean lines did a great job maintaining the core elements of Saab design, while the introduction of modern details showed the future face of the brand.
The window line at the profile dropped towards the back, allowing better visibility and more light into the cabin, while further emphasising the low roofline (1276mm) and the size of the wheels (22-inch front and 23-inch rear) with rims shaped like turbines.
The rear end was equally impressive, featuring slim LED tail-lights connected by a light bar, pronounced shoulders, centrally located exhaust pipes with an elongated shape, a large part of the tail painted in black and a rear window beautifully integrated with the carbon-fibre bodywork.
The cabin which could seat two, was rather spacious for a sports car, with a Scandinavian design approach. Usually concept car interiors look outdated a few years after their launch, but that is not the case with the Aero-X which still looks contemporary thanks to its simplicity.
The black leather contrasting with the green-lit 3D images on glass-like acrylic clear zones, proved that a dashboard can look cool without being completely covered by touch screens. The Swedish concept car was also practical, with a generous boot under the rear hatch.
So, what came next?
Despite the public’s overwhelming positive reaction to the concept, GM could not be persuaded to produce the Aero-X. However, faithful to their promise, Saab’s designers integrated most of the concept car’s styling cues into the production models that followed.
The best example is the Saab 9-5 (2009), the last new model before the Swedish company went bankrupt, which featured headlights, grille, bumpers and a glasshouse inspired by the Aero-X, even though the inevitable FWD saloon proportions could never match the sexiness of the concept car.
Above: Saab 9-5
VERDICT
The Saab Aero-X was one of the greatest cars ever created by Saab during the 67 years of its existence (1945-2012). Besides carving the road for the (few) production models that followed, this concept proved that Swedish cars could be truly exciting.
Its clean lines, modern details and classic proportions make it one of the very best pieces of design that came out of Sweden. Its aerospace inspired cockpit canopy would never make sense in a production model, but served as the sci-fi element of surprise required from every concept car.
Furthermore, the performance and road holding of a sports car combined with the comfort and practicality of a grand tourer somehow predicted the prevailing trend in the automotive industry. Saab already is, and will be missed, for years to come…

Some may not realize that the MG brand and logo are now in the hands of a Chinese firm, SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, a state-owned firm based in Shanghai. They are the largest Chinese automaker by sales with over 5 million units sold in 2014.
Brand names that are exclusive to SAIC are Maxus, MG and Roewe, but they have joint production with such brands as Baojun, Buick, Chevrolet, Iveco, Skoda, VW, and Wuling. The MG that is the subject of this article is known as the MG GT, a medium-sized four-door fastback sedan which was launched in 2014 and produced in China. SAIC maintains a UK facility that does engineering work for its MG-branded products and until recently did some low volume assembly of MGs there for the UK market.
The subject of this article, MG GT It is powered by either of two engines, both gasoline, inline four cylinder of 1.4 or 1.5 liter. The smaller one being a direct injection unit producing 110KW at 5600 RPM and the larger one 95KW at 5500 RPM. Gearboxes are manual six speeds, automatic six speeds or a seven-speed dual clutch unit. Zero to 100 KMH (62 MPH) range from 9.5 to 9.8 seconds depending on the engine and gearbox. Trim levels for the MG GT include names such as Fashion, Elite, Luxury, and Flagship. Equipment puts these modern cars a long, long way from our “classic” MGs with such things as a start-stop system, smart charging regenerative braking, cruise control, power windows, door locks, something called, InkaNet 4.0 Telematics, GPS, Voice Control, Mirrorlink connection and Blue tooth connectivity. A dual zone auto air conditioner or in lesser versions, a manual air conditioner with a pollen filter. For safety, there are dual front airbags, dual side airbags, side curtain, ABS rear camera and other features. However, SAIC specs some of these features only on the top of the line version. Classic MG folks will relate to the leather seats or leather/cloths seats and the “Sports Instrument Panel” So these cars at least in the non-base line version are right up there with current automotive technology and features.
The models of this MG GT come in a pair mounted on a fancy decorative raised plinth with a clear cover. Unlike most models in 43rd scale there is no indication what model company produces this pair except for the chassis of the cars that states “SAIC Motor” in English and some Chinese characters which are presumably a translation. The cars and the box they come in, unlike most all models, have absolutely no indication of the maker of the actual model. The MG logo is prominent on the outer box and the mounting plinth so presumably the car maker SAIC have “licensed” this model product but normal licensing rules and regulations in China may be much different than in the rest of the world as the Chinese are well known for unapproved knockoffs and clones.
Of the two cars, the red one is quite stock and the white one is a sort of rallye or race version, having an internal roll cage, only the driver’s seat which is a sort of Recaro style bucket seat with a four-point seatbelt evident. Both are left-hand drive as suitable for China where most of the real car are sold. The red car has a sunroof in a dark tinted glass, an all-black interior and chrome allow style wheels. There is even a tiny grid replicating a heated the rear window. MG octagon logos are prominently displayed on the front edge of the bonnet and hatchback. In the modern style there is minimal chrome trim, most being black. Interestingly the front and rear license plates on the MG GT state “Morris Garages” so somebody has done their MG history homework.
Looking closer at the rallye version which is in white with a non-sunroof flat black roof with a very large MG logo picked out in gloss black. There is black and red decorative striping on the flanks, a black wing on the rear somewhat like what might be found on some Subaru WRX cars. The rear tail pipes are different than the red street car in that they are well separated instead of being side by side but in both cases they are chrome plated. The chassis shows a fair amount of detail such as the full exhaust system, front and rear suspensions, transverse engine sump, end on gearbox and some floor sheet metal detail. Judging by weight all indications are that both of these replicas are diecast, not the now more common resin material used in Asian made 43rd scale miniatures. The metal diecast medium is an indication that these models will be made in relatively high production numbers compared to the resin issues. The model maker has taken the trouble to create two wheel styles, the MG GT street car with silver alloys and the rallye car with large diameter black alloys. Both being the open spoke type, so brake discs of two different diameters are shown behind the wheels. Nice attention to detail here.

All-new and funkier than ever, the 2020 Soul is a completely new yet familiar version of Kia’s beloved and award-winning urban runabout. Taking everything that helped popularize the quirky, unconventionally styled subcompact, Kia Motors poured more of its soul into nearly every inch of the vehicle, resulting in a third-generation that continues to transcend unmatched style, peppy performance, thrilling technology, and urban practicality.
“The Soul has been a massive success since its introduction to the U.S. market, blowing its (now defunct) rivals out of the water and establishing itself as an automotive icon with its fun-loving character and eccentric style,” said Orth Hedrick, executive director of Car Planning and Telematics. “Even with an entirely new generation of competitors now crowding the marketplace, we are confident the all-new Soul will once again prove to be a tough contender given its unparalleled style and impressive level of invigorating technology and customization options.”
Proving the point that “there is a Soul for everyone,” the normally aspirated and optionally turbocharged Soul is available in five trim levels – LX, S, X-Line, GT-Line, and EX – plus the all-new Soul EV (outlined in a separate press release).
