CH3 [140K WORDS] UPDATE + A LESSON

Hi guys! sorry for the delay there was a reason for it

I fucked up my files and lost all the work I did over the few months for the chapter 2 rewrite...like all of it, im really bummed out about it. and like an idiot ive been playtesting the wrong, unfinished outdated chapter 2 lol

im ngl I did have a pretty long cry earlier which is why I took a while...and im crying now writing this lol

I know it's a wip and these things happen but I worked really hard on 200k+ words of chapter 2 to see it improved and to see it all gone and fucked up really really sucks. I value infamous really highly and am pretty hard on myself so when I dont feel like I deliver what I want to deliver it's really hard for me to move on from that. I was really excited to have this all out at once and now I feel completely disheartened. I know I just have to pick myself up and just get back to work and rewrite chapter 2 but right now im just really upset

anyway, sorry to kill the mood this is probably the worst vibe killer ever lmao I hope everyone is excited! I said I was going to release chapter 3 for band tier and thats what im doing. You'll play the prologue + chapter 1 but will have to input some variable stuff for chapter 3. I hope having chapter 3 can make up for the loss of chapter 2

Chapter 3 is 140K words.

forgot to mention that I am completely rehauling the stats (again) as well due to the new flavor text options in chapter 1 because I feel like the stats still dont encompass the broad range now that there's different canonical types of MCs but yeah not like it matters rn since you'll just input it in aha!

I find chapter 3 to be the most lighthearted of all chapters for me so I hope you guys like it. if there's any inconsistencies (there might be due to lack of chapter 2 context or whatnot), errors, passages missing etc etc.

ill be around to fix any bugs and stuff but I think im going to take a day or two to refresh because im really fucking sad lol

Dearest Reader,

I just wanted to say thank you to anyone of you who has taken their time to read a work of mine over this past year and or support my hyper-fixations. It truly means a lot that I get to share my love of a fandom (Stardew Valley, Call of Duty, Hazbin Hotel, Baldurs Gate 3, The Gentlemen 2024, Doctor Who, or to my most recent Smosh/Youtube), and have you support me in some way.

And I know that it might sound cringy but I mean it when your comments, suggestions, likes, and reblogs have all made my day better at some point as I hope my stories have brought some light into your own. I still remember my first 10 readers and the barley 5 likes I would get on my posts and to come to nearly 900 of you now is something I will never take for granted. (In all honestly, i don't know why people read my shit half the time lol).

I won't say much more but just thank you all, truly, for reading my silly work and heres to another year of sharing stories and silently screaming over characters.

which is the most OBVIOUS substitution in byler history because it is clear the audience is meant to pick up on it. it's not subtle. but-- mike does this too.

the difference is mike is projecting onto will rather than a side speaker. and you might think this isn't supposed to be used as a substitution for himself. but will is not the odd one out here. dustin wanted to play games and he had a girlfriend. like, logically, its two v two because they knew dustin would also want to play dnd. (and i'm not assuming, they say it in the fight.)

nothing's in red. nothing's crossed out or changed. because mike said exactly what he meant here (hoorah!). back when they were kids when they could actually tell each other their emotions and feelings because it didn't have to masquerade a romantic love. that love was normal to them until it was ostracized through internalized and externalized homophobia.

and what is stranger things at its heart??

a sci-fi show with villains and superpowers and lore YES BUT BEYOND THAT AND INTO THE CHARACTER ARCS

it's a show about kids growing up (and also jopper).

so? so, the change in their substitution says a lot. it says how hard they are hiding their feelings from each other, how it increases as they get older. which leads us back to their true feelings, aka season 2 ish, where they were pretty openly in love, in my opinion. holding hands, comforting each other, making freaking love confessions as seen above.

and juxtapose that with season 4, with all its red and changes in meaning?? we as viewers should understand that nothing the boys say is what they mean. they are hiding!!!

I've seen your yandere dad Malleus, specifically where MC hallucinates their own family. I want to make it worse, :D.

Imagine, Malleus found a way to remove the hallucination, with lil to no reprucsussion physically. But, mentally it broke MC, since her "family" is gone and the demon (Malleus), stole her real family. And they started from a range to self harm, delete the self from the living plane, to be a vegetable, or to attempt to harm Malleus (with no success). Like, the removal of her imaginary family broke MC. And the only way for her to be back to normal, is to return her real family. And Malleus is just in pain.

Thought I'd drop in and mention that while I am willing to take requests, can we please stop harping on Platonic Yandere Malleus? This isn't a twst blog or a malleus fan blog, it's a yandere blog. And while I personally love Malleus and appreciate all the attention he's helped me produce, I'm getting pretty tired of writing for Malleus all the time.

No hate to these askers at all, but there's a limit to how much of single charcter I can deal with before I get bored.

it is a source of great delight, great gratitude and great guilt that i have an inbox full of juicy questions i haven't answered. reckon it's about time i got around to answering some of them! this is a bumper post with lots to answer and plenty to rummage around in, so if you have sent me a question i hope you will find it answered in here! (if i haven't replied, please know that i have treasured/been tickled by every one and will never not be pleased as punch that people reach out to say hi and chat about stuff i put out into the world). alright. to business!

it’s a fair question anon, and the answer is at least partly as you suggest: neville and seamus are loyal to ginny (dean, ofc, wasn’t there). in c.12 harry talks about having spoken with neville about it, and though he tells ginny about it, he also reassures her neville didn’t spill her secrets - harry doesn’t like people talking about him behind his back, and he’s right to assume ginny wouldn’t either. (i mean, i also think waiting for someone to be ready to talk about something is a basic mark of respect for a loved one - and learning to be patient and not demanding information from people is a skill a certain mr potter could do with learning). but, as i hope c.14 gestured towards and as the flashback chapters will unpack, ginny also had a very specific war that was particular to her and who she was vis-à-vis harry and the order. neville and (to a lesser extent) seamus know some of it, but they don’t know the whole picture. hope this helps!

i played with writing ginny having different emotional reactions in the final scene of c.14, but in the end decided i liked having her quiet, resigned to it, like she knew this was coming (they’ll all know soon, as she tells herself throughout this chapter). for someone who is often kicking off and raging at people bearing bad news, it’s a lot of fun to write ginny as someone with the wind knocked out from her every now and then. 

i won’t spoil this one, anon, but i will say that i think ginny understands harry, his good intentions, and the reasons for his blindspots. they’ve got chats to have for sure. but will she be throwing hands imminently? i would not bet on it. 

it was little women! the same book hermione's reading in chapter 3. the granger girlies love a classic. they prefer the winona ryder adaptation but hermione takes the family to see the greta gerwig version and bawls and ron has to mop her up in the richmond everyman cinema.

on harry's characterisation - harry is a cranky crabby little grouch with a temper and a good sulk in him. he also is not beating the softie/sentimental allegations and will always be a sweetpea when it comes to those with good vibes and freckles in spades. and we should not forget it!

anon, i don’t know what you’re like as a host, but if two horny teenage houseguests decided to use my hut for a spot of snogging and heavy petting i’d be putting my foot down and setting the skrewts on them.

more seriously - there are lots of reasons, and most are boring. some are just ‘plot’. these are two characters who are not just physically removed from one another, but having to clock their emotional distance from each other, or at least the distance in their experiences of war and how that has changed them. having them physically distant and trying to find their way back to each other through new ways of communicating is a part of this story. it would be a much much more boring story if harry and ginny could see each other every week. i love a hinny hangout as much as the next person. but the story wouldn’t work if they had endless access to each other. and this is where the other reasons come into play - story conventions, or the rules put in place by canon, where characters beyond hogwarts very rarely set foot on hogwarts’ grounds without serious reason, and the school behaves pretty much like every other english boarding school, which is strictly controlling visitor time and not just letting people rock up and hang out with the students whenever they feel like it. 

you best believe michael A&R corner will be handing out the ravenclaw lads’ mixtapes outside the courtroom, anon!

this is definitely an agree-to-disagree on this one, anon. i think, if there were no post-war justice, no trials, no public reckoning, no need to immediate need to clear snape’s name, then maybe. but i think harry would get one whiff of death eaters trying to blame their crimes on old sev and say, not on my watch. he’s literally the only person who can clear snape’s name posthumously. do i think he felt weird about it all? absolutely. but i think he would do as he does in ootp re clearing his own name and make it his business to get the truth out. i don't know if you've noticed but that young man is really rather righteous. he also couldn't wait to tell voldemort snape was actually a goodie. he was chomping at the bit, he was salivating. he had the goss and he could not wait to spread it. he's just like me fr!

thank you sm anon! i have talked a little bit about my view of hermione and ginny's relationship here (forgive the link to an old thing, i am terrible for repeating myself), but i think their relationship as you see it in beasts is my way of trying to write the middle ground between the two views of their friendship often doing the rounds in fandom - eg. they're absolute soulmate besties who totally get each other all the time vs they're basically not friends at all. i am just a bit of a sucker for hard won female friendships earned by girls growing up and getting a grip. now - if harry and ginny had an argument, i imagine ginny would be right, and hermione is always on the sign of reason. but even if ginny wasn't right, i reckon hermione would have a quiet word with her about it, but still make sure she told harry off to, just because it's good to never let the men in your life know peace.

i yelped! you dreamed of my fic! that's bonkers and brilliant in equal measure. look if chapter 15 gets revealed to you in a dream and it's better than in the google doc i'll be soooo fuckin pissed.

A note on Sophie 🩶

No one asked, but as I move forward writing Benophie fics, I wanted to state that I'm thrilled with the casting of Yerin Ha and the direction the show is taking with her character. Across my fics I've aimed to mostly leave out physical descriptors of Sophie both so that readers can imagine any kind of casting, and so they can put themselves in her shoes if they wish. Moving forward I may switch between Beckett and Baek if I intend a fic to be more book-canon or show-canon but it is never my intent to persuade or gatekeep anyone from imagining any version of Sophie in any of my fics. This is our playground. All Sophies are welcome 💙

MOONSHADOW UPDATE…or lack thereof.

I apologize for my radio silence as of late. I had hoped to be regularly updating MoonShadow over the Summmer but, as has been obvious, that didn’t happen.

I assure everyone that I have full intentions of continuing the fic. MoonShadow is still at the forefront of my thoughts and the next few chapters are already written and await second-draft editing.

The issue is, I have had zero free time lately. I work at least six days a week (seven for the last couple of weeks) and the days I have off have been dedicated to real-life projects that needed to get done. Turns out there are only so many hours in a day and I’ve really had to prioritize.

So finding the more than a few scattered minutes of time needed to sit down and edit a coherent chapter has not happened. Fingers crossed that’s going to change in the next month, but until then thanks for being patient and for sticking with me.

Hi all! Since I'm already at my 13th (!) chapter on this work, I figured I'd clean house:

I saw that ch. 1-5 were badly formatted due to a glitch on AO3 so I just went and cleaned them up. Also I "slightly" changed the name of the fic from "Change in the Wind" to Catch the Wind---which is a Donovan song reference which feels quite fitting ( my fav version of the song here!). Finally, I changed the rating on AO3 from its original Mature to Explicit---due to obvious reasons.
