CT:OS Author Update

Hey everyone! <3

I'm so sorry for the silence here on Tumblr, I really need to keep up with my author updates. If you've been here a while, you know Social media and Tumblr/Forum visits are always the first thing to go for me when I'm very busy (no excuse, really), but rest assured I always continue plugging away/finding pockets of time to write.

Now for the fun stuff!

Progress on the FULL chapter update 

The chapter that covers the weekend with Sam is almost done. I’m a whopping 90k words in now (this includes the sneak peek with the post-match scenes + dinner + bar scene).

NEW scenes I’ve written since the sneak peeks include team dinner with Sam (or not), a party scene (with potential drunk confession scenes and a little drinking game), as well as not one but TWO scenes where MC gets to decide whether to share a bed with Sam.

Scenes I'm still writing: MC returns to Cargill after sending Sam off to the train station, MC's weekend if Sam's not there

Tentative dates

I’ll be posting the non-beta-tested chapter update as soon as I edit and finish writing—likely by early Sep for ko-fi supporters and beta-testers, and 2-3 weeks after that for the edited/beta-tested version (to the public).

P.S. I love receiving your asks, and I know I've been terrible with answering them lately, but know that I cherish every single one of your messages and usually will start answering more of them after a major update (to take a break from writing!)

So one of my books for next year is darker than planned but it's horror themed too!!!

So I'm feeling incredibly proud of myself with this secret book!! I am expanding as a writer and trying a new way of writing that authors use, but it's one I've never done before so it's taking me longer. I've also never written a horror because horror freaks me out but I'm diving straight into it.

The other books planned are not as bad nor excessive dark romance. They are more supernatural but I'm taking a turn for a bit.

I hope everyone is going to be supportive and come on this journey with me as a writer. 🤍🤍

i'm sorry i haven't answered asks lately or really spoken beyond posting my writing and fic updates. my thoughts are kind of all-consuming about my surgery (i find out next tuesday if i'm approved!) and getting affairs in order for time off from work, so i'm not really reading or chatting but more just writing and sending it out to the void.

Reflections after 70,000 words

A few chapters ago Orion's Ballad crossed 70,000 words. These are some of my thoughts:

Self imposed deadlines are strange. This is the first time in my life I've actually seriously committed to meeting self imposed deadlines even when I don't want to. On a few occasions I've woken up and written a chapter hours before it's due to publish. These are pretty consistently my least favorite chapters, and more than a few scenes that I'd been looking forward to writing felt underdone and rushed because of the crunch. Ultimately, I'm still glad I didn't delay any of those chapters, but it is motivation to write more and get ahead of my schedule again.

I'm absolutely delighted by commenters. Seriously, I love it. You're telling me people actually read my writing AND liked it enough to comment? Even speculate about future events?? WRITE 5 STAR REVIEWS? Amazing, 10/10 experience. Shout out to F24Valentine Bobgongo especially, love you guys <3

70,000 words is also kind of completely wild. I think my record for a project before Orion's Ballad was something like 30k? That's the number I've said for a long time, but last time I tried to find that project all I found was 10k, so maybe that's my actual previous record. Either way, it feels amazing to finally commit to one project and see such a staggering number. It also sucks. I want to write so many things, two other projects specifically are calling to me like sirens. I have an idea for a short hiatus point somewhere in the far future, and maybe I'll take that time to get started proper on one of those other projects, but for now I'm forcing myself to only indulge them as occasional treats for myself while I keep the bulk of my focus on Orion's Ballad.

In the background, life toils on. I'm broke, living with my parents, and occasionally suffocating in existential dread. I have some good friends and a wonderful partner that are keeping me going though, and every now and then the future actually looks kind of bright. It seems like 2024 is shaping up to be a year of slow, agonizing growth, but that's better than not growing at all, right?
