The Parents That Stepped Up
Chapter One: Survivor's Guilt
From the moment he was born, Howard Stark had despised his son. Born out of grief, Tony never knew his father’s love, but that’s where Steve and Peggy step in.
The day after Maria Stark's funeral, Howard barged into the Carter-Rogers household early in the morning. He knocked Steve clean on his ass, slamming the door behind him.
Peggy appeared in the doorway, hair still in curlers. She exchanged a look with Steve, and a silent conversation passed between them. Steve scampered off to make a call to the Jarvises, knowing they must've been anxious about Howard being absent.
After Maria's death, there was an agreement between the couples to be sure that Howard and Tony weren't left alone. Peggy could only imagine what Howard could do fueled by his grief and poor Tony, on Howard's end of his constant neglect.
Tony's neglect had only been deflected by them stepping in, it seemed Howard only remembered him when the kid started to scream. No one blamed Howard for it, not fully. Not when Tony looked so much like his late mother.
They'd all agree that Howard did not need to be alone. Not with his thoughts nor with Tony.
Peggy cleared her throat to alert Howard that she was there. She stood beside Tony's car seat, hearing his soft breathing. Howard looked more agitated by the minute, the wild look in his expression and the fact that he reeked of alcohol.
It was amazing that he'd gotten here safely, at all.
"Please tell me that you didn't drive," Peggy sighed, not wanting to think of what could've happened had Howard stupidly made that choice. "Have you even slept? Where's Mr. Jarvis or Ana?"

- set after endgame battle, and nat is alive! romanogers drabble for ya :)
The fight had concluded, at long last. They won. Things were slowly falling back into place, though they would never be the same again.
Tony had agreed to let a few of them stay over at his place until they found somewhere to settle in. Morgan was the happiest with the decision - having ‘two-week uncles and aunties’ staying with them meant that she had more people to include in her tea parties.
The ‘two-week’ detail was especially emphasized by Tony, who hoped that they could get out of his hair in two weeks or less.
For Morgan’s tea party of the day, Steve had assumed the role of Mr Steve who likes strawberry cake and grape jam. It was Morgan’s favorite - everyone else got to change their roles but it was already Day 3 of Mr Strawberry Cake Grape Jam Steve.
“Mr Steve, here is your strawberry cake,” Morgan said importantly, setting down a plate with a strawberry cake plushie on top of it.
“Thank you, Morgan,” Steve smiled. “It’s exactly how I like it.”
”No, Mr Steve, you need to call me Missy Morgan,” frowned Morgan, who quickly moved on to Sam who was sitting at the other end of the table, awaiting instructions.
“How’s the cake?”
Steve turned to see Natasha, her arms crossed, leaning on the wall for support. She was smiling, trying not to laugh at the comically large rattan hat on his head that Morgan had definitely found in the garage.
“Actually Nat,” Steve got up as slowly as possible to avoid being noticed, “I think it’s your turn for tea.”
Morgan didn’t seem to care - she was busy reprimanding Sam for moving her teddy bear away and sitting in that spot instead.
Natasha poured a glass of water from the flask on the table and offered it to Steve.
“Something’s on your mind,” he took the glass and looked at her thoughtfully as she poured another one for herself.
“Are you really saying that? After all that’s happened?” she laughed.
“Yeah, sorry. Kinda hard to believe we fought some aliens just a few days ago. But then again, what’s new?”
Natasha rubbed her hip, where she had sustained an injury earlier.
“How’s your injury?”
She shook her head. “Nothing that can’t be healed in a couple days. What’s the plan for the stones?”
Steve took a long sip of the water. “I’m going to return them. Tony and the others are getting things ready.”
Natasha nodded, looking towards the lake outside the window.
“Why’d you ask if you already know what I’m going to do?”
She didn’t respond for a few moments, then looked at him, her eyes wet. “I guess I was just hoping that I would be wrong.”
Morgan had discovered his escape, and was already running over to get him back to the tea party.
“Nat,” Steve moved towards her, but she quickly walked off.
“Mr Steve?” Morgan pulled at his finger gently, to which he responded with a smile.
Natasha retreated to the guest room and sat on the edge of the bed, letting the tears run down her cheeks. She had always known what he was going to do. Steve had told her once, a long time ago, that if he ever had a chance to go back in time, he would choose to be with Peggy a thousand times over. Now that the opportunity presented itself so perfectly in front of him, it seemed almost foolish if he didn’t take it.
She didn’t know why her heart stung so much now that the moment came at last. It wasn’t supposed to.
Perhaps it was because of everything they had been through together, and she had held on to the little hope that he would choose her in the end. Stupid hope.
“Bad day?”
Natasha wiped her eyes with the back of her hands, “Didn’t know it was that obvious. What happened to the tea party?”
Sam made himself comfortable on the armchair next to the bed. “Oh you know, Steve’s doing all the work for me.”
Natasha smiled, and they sat in silence for a while.
“You should tell him.”
“And, just so we’re thinking about the same thing…”
Sam rolled his eyes. “Do I really need to spell it out for you?”
“Actually, Sam, I’m establishing communication here, in case you couldn’t tell.”
“Okay, genius. I’m telling you, you need to tell him how you feel about him. He needs to hear it from you. I’ve been Blipped for what, five years? I’ve been trying to say something about the two of you way before that, but no one ever listened.”
“So what if I do? It’s not going to change anything.”
Sam looked at her in exasperation. “Why do you keep thinking he doesn’t value you?”
“I know he values me,” Natasha sighed. “But it’s different from how he sees Peggy.”
“How do you know that? You’re here lecturing me about communication, but you can’t bring yourself to make this clear with him?”
She looked at him then, and his previously annoyed gaze softened.
“Okay, I’m sorry,” Sam put up his hands to surrender, and got up. “I can’t force this, but I really needed you to hear it.”
Natasha nodded. “Thanks.”
He made his way awkwardly to the door, as if unsure whether he should leave her alone or not. “Feel free to join us at the tea party.”
“Maybe later.”
Then she was left alone to ponder about all the new questions in her head.
Natasha had wanted to stay in the house while the rest of them prepared the site for Steve and accompanied him there, but she knew she would regret it if she didn’t say goodbye. She decided that the pain of seeing him leave was more bearable than not getting to.
Sam seemed to know, because he intentionally popped by her room the day of.
“They’re heading down to the lake in a bit. I told Tony that I’ll be coming with Bucky.”
“Okay, thanks.”
“You coming with us?”
“Yeah. Yeah. I am.”
“Okay buddy, just remember, you have to return each stone to the exact moment it was taken. You’ve got all the time in the world, so just - be careful, okay?” Bruce reminded Steve for what seemed like the twentieth time that morning.
“Actually, I didn’t quite get that right, could you say it again?” Tony quipped, before getting elbowed by Bruce.
Steve made eye contact with Natasha then, and made his way over to her.
“See you in a minute,” he smiled.
“Eh, it’ll take less than that. He’ll be back in 5 seconds,” Tony chimed in.
“Yeah,” Natasha took a shaky breath, “I’ll see ya.”
There seemed to be a flood of tears fighting to break through. She had said her goodbyes, and so she decided that it was enough.
She finally let the tears roll down her cheeks when Bruce called Steve back to get ready, and made her way towards the lake, away from the group.
“She okay?” Bucky, who had noticed her leaving, nudged Sam.
“Just let her be.”
“Okay, go on Quantum, in 3, 2, 1. Returning in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.”
Natasha stooped by the lake, watching her reflection in the water, taking many shaky breaths as the tears continued flowing. She might have cried enough to fill up the lake if her body allowed it.
She wondered where he was at that moment in time. Probably happy and contented somewhere, having lived a beautiful life with the woman of his dreams. And there she was, crying over someone who had already lived his life and would not be part of hers ever again.
“That’s a lot of tears.”
Steve was standing beside her in the water’s reflection, and for a moment, she thought she was hallucinating.
“What is this, Romanoff, I’m gone for 5 seconds and you can’t recognise me?”
She lunged towards him so hard, he almost fell over in their embrace.
“You came back,” she sobbed into his chest, hugging him tighter than she had ever hugged anyone.
He stroked her hair comfortingly and kissed the top of her head.
“Can’t you be apart from me for 5 seconds even?” Steve teased.
“I thought you left,” she cried, “I know how much…Peggy means to you. I thought I was prepared for what you’d do when the time came, but I guess I never was. And I don’t think I’ll ever be.”
“Look at me, Nat,” Steve whispered. “I loved Peggy, and yes, there was a time in my life that I was certain I would live my life with her. But she was in my past, and even though I had the chance to redo everything, I don’t want to leave behind the present, because you’re in it.”
He gently placed his hands on the sides of her face. “I love you, Natasha Romanoff. And it’ll always be you.”

"Hello, stranger." (Auntie Peggy is the best, sue me.)
"Aunt Peggy?" Tony hadn't seen her in years. He stared for a moment, then stood up to greet her. "It's good to see you! What brings you here?"

Both were asleep in bed, when little 7 year old Tony walked into the bedroom and climbing into their bed.
Jason woke up first rubbing his eyes and sighed, "Bubba what you doing? We built you a new big boy bed last week.."
"Bad dream.." Said little Tony balling up his fist and getting under the covers, "..and Daddy is out."
"Oh right Momma visiting Aunt Peg for the week.."
"I'm sorry..c-can I stay?"
That moment Elizabeth woke up ruffling her nephew's bed head and yawned, "Sure, Bambino. But you wanna talk about the bad dream first?"
Tony looked down holding his teddy bear and mumbled, "I was in a dark and scary cave with a dragon..and I could not fight him, I was running but there no way to go.."
"Aww sweetie, look it's okay not every dream is gonna be a good one but you're okay. Everything is okay, you hear me?"
" I know..it's okay, b-but I was lost and scared..I did not save the princess..I fail.."
"Oh no sweetie, you didn't fail anyone. It was just a bad dream, there are no dragons here to hurt you."
"But the princess?"
"Maybe you will save her in the next dream."
Jason added with a tired smile, "Or maybe the princess already saved herself? Like auntie Lizzie or auntie Peg. And she's now waiting for you in the dream."
"Really?" Tony asked with a small smile.
"Yeah, sometimes it's the little prince that needs to go on journey to find the princess waiting for him in the end."
"Okay, I am ready to sleep now..and meet the princess."
"Out of curiosity, who was the princess?"
"Her name was Molly."
"Ohh nice name."
Elizabeth cut in with a chuckle, "Yeah very nice! Now we can please go to sleep and save the kingdom tonight in this dream?"
The boys nodded with a smile, cuddling up in bed with the lady of the house.
------
Elizabeth blowing raspberries on Tony's tummy as his giggles filled up the house with laughter. Jason was building up rocking chair in the living room and walked into the kitchen.
Jarvis was making lunch for them.
"Hey babe." He said with a smile, kissing her forehead then gave his nephew one on the cheek.
"Hi dear." She replied with a smile bouncing their nephew in her lap who giggled brightly.
It was a running gag but a sweet one calling each other pet names since the day they met. It went beyond, just them calling each other nicknames Jason called Jarvis's wife, Ana, honey and doll all the time as a term of endearment.
"JJ!" Tony yelled in glee with a toothy grin, as both adults looked their eyes at his silliness.
Something that would carry on once Tony is older is that silly toothy grin of his, no matter what the situation is. Especially his giggles.
Jarvis set the table for them, as Jason rushed over to help him and cutting Elizabeth's food into smaller sizes. Ana joined them soon enough watching all of this in curiosity. However, it confused the British man, once they all sat down to eat.
"Why does Jason need to cut your food, Miss Stark?" Jarvis asked them as he ate.
"Just watch, dear." Ana added, curious knowing she will get an answer.
With Tony's booster seat resting between them. Ana grabs a glass of wine and sits next to her husband. Looking at the kid who are begin to eat but what caught Jarvis's eye was Tony’s other hand gripping Elizabeth’s left hand in a tight grip.
"Aww how adorable." Ana said with a smile eating her chicken.
"It is indeed but what exactly is happening? I might need an explanation." Jarvis questioned with a smile.
"Tony had this new habit where he only can eat if he holds Elizabeth or Maria’s hand. It started a few days ago." Jason explained chuckling as he ate.
"I don't mind it. It keeps him relaxed and allows me to make sure he's doing alright while eating." Elizabeth replied eating with her other hand.
"What happens if you remove your hand?" Ana asked, in love with the way Tony's happily eating.
Elizabeth lets go of Tony's hand and all of them looking at the youngest Stark who started fusing while chewing a piece of meat, one hand starts waving asking for his auntie’s hand.
Elizabeth just let Tony wrap his fingers with her own in the meantime as Ana chuckled and Jarvis snorted with a smile.
"Howard tried it yesterday, removing Tony's hand away from Maria and he just cried. Not pretty." Jason added chuckling.
"It was hilarious!" Elizabeth told them as she snickered, "My brother promised to let him sleep with their room last night, if he stopped. Howard was third wheeling."
------
“Will you please go to sleep now? You're a growing boy, come on please do it Uncle JJ.” Jason sighed and rubbed his own face with his palm.
“No way.” Tony runs “I wan Liz…”
“I give up.” Jason buried his face in the kid’s bed
Jason finally gets up and walks to the living room where his best girl is reading something from her notebook. Watching Tony just dive to her lap startling the woman.
“What the-?” Elizabeth jumped out of reflex “I-shouldn’t you be in bed and counting sheep?”
“I’m not sleepy.” Tony shakes his head.
“Well, I am.” Jason sighed and sat next to Elizabeth looking into her eyes hoping she understood the silent help signal, "No more kids, one is enough.."
That was when Hank Pym called as Elizabeth put him on the speaker and started talking with him as she tried to put her kid to sleep.
"Lizzie is this a bad time?" Hank asked while on the phone, hearing Tony mumbling in the background and Jason's voice muttering something.
"No, Hankie it's fine. Someone's allergic to sleep just like his father, I'll pay you 500 bucks if you can get him to sleep." Elizabeth replied jokingly.
"I'll see what I can do. Do you remember the equation use for invention you and Howard were making?"
"Actually, yeah I do. The one for that android prototype? Yeah I do."
"Good because I thinking we can use for this new formula I was creating."
Both scientists go to work, talking with the equipment and possible new investments they would make that month to present to the others. Laughing and gushing about their week as well.
Jason was napping when he was accidentally smack on the shoulder due to Elizabeth's excitement how on they can improve the formula for the shrink ray.
"Ow!" He shouted softly, being woken up.
"Oh, sorry JJ. I was just, you know." She replied trying to explain with a chuckle.
"I know let me take this little guy off your hands."
"Alright."
Both expected to find Tony still awake on his auntie's lap but he nodding off as they spoke. They chuckled quietly thanking Hank's believing their science talk tired him out or something.
He picked him up as Tony's head rested on his shoulder, his eyes were trying to stay open as he mumbled, "I'm not tired...no sleepy.."
"Oh yes you are, Bubba. Very sleepy." Jason said with a soft chuckle with sighed, "Say night night."
Elizabeth stood up cupping his little face mumbling sweet nothing into his ears as Tony hummed a soft, "..night night."
"Night, my little star." She replied with a soft smile, deciding to help tuck him in.
They tucked in their little boy, turning on the recording on Maria Stark's gentle singing voice as background noise for Tony.
Moments like that, they both wished Howard and Maria were not busy sometimes but they're more than happy to raise the little guy instead.
----
As much as he is their little boy, he is Howard's son and that being said he was a little rebellious at time. Especially in his early teens and his years as an adult..
"Anthony Edward Stark, where the hell you think your going?" Elizabeth asked with her arms crossed and tapped her foot with a glare.
"Out!" Repiled Tony, who was 12 years old at this point with a classic smirk.
"It's Monday afternoon on a school night!"
"So?"
"So you're not heading out to whatever your heading off to! I don't care what it is, Friday it's another thing, I allow it. But Monday, hell no!"
"You're not dad, auntie Liz!"
"And thank god I ain't. Be lucky it ain't Peggy either, why do you want to head out anyway? To act cool with your friends?"
Tony sighed in defeat dramatically dropping the smirk and crossed his arms, "Well no shit. All my friends are doing it."
Jason stepped in after returning home from an getting supplies hearing his nephew, "Please tell you didn't just curse in front of your aunt."
"I just said 'shit'! Relax.." Tony replied with a sigh thinking of something knowing who's the softer parent, "And aunt Liz won't let me go out."
"First off no cursing at your aunt. And second, out where?"
"An party..all my friends will be there!"
"Is it on Friday?"
"Yup! It's on Friday, it's a small party."
Elizabeth scoffed, "No! It's tonight, an silly little stupid party with his friends doing god knows what. God knows if the parents will be there!"
"She's lying! She doesn't want me to have fun this week and stay stuck in this house, only invite to Rhodey or something." Tony shouted.
"Enough!" Jason yelled raising his voice, "I know she ain't lying and that you're the one who is actually lying. You know the rules Tony, no parties or anything on school night like Monday. And something tells me those kids parents don't know they're going to that party."
"B-but that's not fair! I should be allow to go." Tony yelled.
"No you shouldn't and it is fair, she’s saving you for tomorrow. She knows that something off is going on if it's on a Monday, simple as that. Doesn't that sound a little weird to you?"
"...yeah..it does."
"We will talk about this later."
A few more words were said before Tony left to the living room. Liz was pissed off and so was Jason.
He sighed and told her, "You were doing the right thing."
"I know.." She sighed, "I know. I'm just trying to protect him. Something tells me this won't be the last argument."
"Cause it won't. But we just try to lead him down the right path.."
"You got that right. Protecting him and all that.."
----
Road trips with the three of them tend to be something else. Tony always making himself known with questions, annoying them on purpose and snickering afterwards.
"Where we going?" Tony asked in the backseat, playing with his jacket zipper.
"To meet Peggy and your parents in San Diego." Elizabeth replied like it was obvious with a smile.
"And why are you driving?"
"Because your uncle JJ has a bad history with driving."
Jason perked up, "I'm right here, you know?!
Tony snorted, "Okay what time we get there?"
"Midnight." Elizabeth said with sigh.
"What happens at midnight?"
"You're bedtime."
"Can I drive?"
Both shouted at the same time, "No!"
That resulted in Tony laughing at their response as both parents chuckled at his ridiculous way to make times like that a joke or two.
---
Sometimes Elizabeth tends to become a mama bear, as if she isn't already. Like when Tony started dating, Howard rolled his eyes chuckling at his sister and Maria gushed hoping her boy enjoys the dating scene.
Elizabeth on the other hand, she was so excited and sat beside Jason one afternoon while he was reading. He was reading a classic children's' book from the shelfs, 'The Giving Tree' when Elizabeth came with a grin.
"Yes my darling?" He asked looking up from the book with a laugh.
"Tony got a date!" She repiled with a smile.
"With who? I mean I'm not surprise our kid has been a cheeky little guy since the age of 3."
"You know that day Howard took Tony down to that event in Chicago? Well there was this nice girl there with her mother, Tony sneaked off to see her and now they met again due to her mother bringing her here for an clothing event. And according to Ana, he has a date."
"That's my boy. If he's not a gentleman, I'll ground him for life. Where to?"
"Ana said that caravel downtown this weekend. She was eavesdropping and I love her for it."
"Not bad for a first actually date with a girl he seems to like."
Elizabeth sigh assuming something, Jason knew that look on her face and ask her what's going on.
"I don't want to sound cheesy but he's growing up so fast, JJ! I mean where did the time go? It felt like I was helping him add 2 + 2 yesterday! Now a date? Damn..he's my baby." Elizabeth admitted with a sigh.
Jason opened his arms pulling her into an tight embrace as she was nuzzling comfortably against his neck. She pouted, it was a rare moment but she did. He chuckled rubbing her shoulder.
"Aw, Lizzie, darling. He's growing up, I don't like it. Hell I would rather stop time and let him stay the way he is now. But we can't. Before we know it, he's buying his own house or deciding to buy this one off his father." Jason joked with a smile.
Elizabeth chuckled, "He might as well do that. I'm not ready for him to keep growing up, what if he doesn't want hugs from his auntie anymore? What if he grows up hating the idea of living with us? I mean it's a packed a house, i don’t blame him."
"Hahaha no, honey he won't. I think he rather have a packed house than a quieter one. And he will always need his auntie, he's your baby. Tony knows it, hell he might make you an godmother one day."
"Oh god no, don't think that far hahaha! I want him live in the moment now, before he's old and gray. I'm still gonna baby him no matter how old he is! You know that right?"
"Oh I know. And he's gonna be annoyed but love you for it. No matter what you do, you will be there to protect him and stand up for him."
"You too!"
"Oh hell yeah I will!"
---
And they are right about that. Yeah sure, Lizzie was gone under the ice for years due to a freak accident thinking she was goner. Having Jason and Tony feeling down in the dumps for some time.
But when that girl returned, her mama bird side came with her. And the man who was her right hand was more than happy about that.
"He's insane!" Liz yelled with a sigh, pointing at her nephew, "You're insane."
"Hello?! Have you met me?" Tony replied with a chuckle, "I think Pepper would love a big bunny for an anniversary slash Christmas present."
"Okay I dealt the whole 'I'm Iron Man, I can do whatever the hell I want' thing. But your Tony Stark! My Tony Stark, use that head of yours is a big bunny a good idea?"
"JJ gets you big jewelry and spoils you! I blame him for my actions, the bunny stays."
"Oh jeez. Did you at least get dinner ready?"
"Yeah it's pizza tonight. Why are you acting so uptight lately?"
Elizabeth sighed, "I've been asleep for years in ice and I come back to find you as Iron Man. A superhero. I know it's been an year now, but a part of me is still scared your gonna blow it!"
Tony chuckled pulling his auntie into a hug, "Oh Liz, it's me we're talking about. Hell, JJ is still terrified for my life. And honestly, I've already it blew it last year, in New York. I am stressed but I will be fine.."
"I know about your late night snacking and sleepless night, Tony. I'm worried about you. We all are."
"I know you are..but if anything happens, I will tell you. I promise."
~~~
Last forward to Christmas time, once the house blew up and JARVIS announces Tony's anxiety problems to everyone after arriving at the snowy side of the U.S. before shutting off.
Soon enough, they're dragging themselves across the snow to find a safe house. Rei's suit is being dragged across the snow, as he decide to start helping his godfather.
Liz snaps, "Anything you want to tell me?!"
"Okay in my defense I was gonna tell you soon." Tony winced.
"When?!"
"I was gonna make you an omelette and tell you about it!"
"Oh my god!"
Jason sighed dragging the Iron Man suit with them across with snow as the night fall onto of them.
"You two knew about this?! This whole time and didn't think of telling me?!" Jason yelled.
"I thought you knew about this! Or that he told you!" Liz yelled back.
"Great, now Ma and Pops are fighting." Rei added sarcastically, "Good job, Dad!"
Tony turned look at his son, “Im sorry, how is this my fault?”
“Isn’t everything?”
“This is unbelievable.”
----
Other times, Jason and Elizabeth would be protecting themselves or their kids presence even when the guy isn't nearby.
Such as 2014, when they were called by SHIELD when it came to Alexander Pierce wanting their signature onto the new helicarriers.
Jason was tired as he asked, "Okay Pierce, what the hell is this?"
Elizabeth was standing next to him and pressed, "Mr. Secertary, what he meant is there a reason you've asked us to come here?"
"Signature, Mr. Underwood and Miss Stark." Said Pierce holding out pens, "As well, I was hoping you ask your nephew to stop by my niece's birthday party as a favor for Nick."
"He's our nephew, not a party entertainer." Elizabeth said with a raise eyebrow.
"Unless it's for his own children, and at the moment he's not dealing with your favors." Jason added, "What's the favor you're doing for Nick?"
"That's classified information, sir." Pierce replied.
"Of course it is..you know, it was a pretty long day and I don't want to be here. Matter a fact, none of us want to be to here! So good night Alexander." Elizabeth said standing up from her chair.
Jason stood up following her, opening the door for the girl as he gave Pierce an odd look before walking out. However that didn’t stop Elizabeth Stark to get information later on that day, returning to Alexander Pierce’s office after cooling down to get any information needed.
——
Sometimes due to Jason and Elizabeth being so close to Tony, along with their godchildren they get mistaken for the actual parents. Hell, even for being a couple more than once.
Such as in the early to late 2010s, Justin Hammer once asked, “Are theses your parents, Stark? I thought they were dead..”
Tony would give an sarcastic smile and reply, “Aw Hammer, you’re jealous? Too bad not everyone was given 3 sets of parents.”
“Three?”
“Oh yeah, didn’t you hear? Or were you too busy washing yourself in that horrible 80s cologne?”
Justin scoffed, “Damn. But seriously, are they giving out set of parents for free or what?”
“No. They’re mine, you can’t have them.” Tony added with a smirk.
~~~
Or when Fury called Tony and The Avengers out a few times, he will tend to bring JJ and Liz names into conversation, using the term parents. Such as in 2015, when they are all in Clint’s Barn. Also known as The Safe House.
Everyone was in the kitchen, including the teens and kids. Some were at the table such as Natasha, Bruce, Rick, Ava, Rei and Rochelle. Others were surrounding the area near the sink and fridge across from the kitchen island, such as Tony, Clint and Steve with Liane and Luna.
Clint’s wife Laura was listening in as the younger kids were wondering around.
Elizabeth was drying dishes as Jason washed them, meanwhile Fury was finishing placing some orange slices on a plate.
Nat spoke up, “You know boss, when I was hoping I saw ya, you would have more than that.”
Fury replied, “I do. I have you. Back in the day, I had eyes everything, ears everywhere else. You kids have all the things you can dream to use, Stark’s parents didn’t have much to work with beforehand but they made do. Now here we are, back on earth with nothing but our wit and our willingness to do good.”
Jason added, “Just like old times, huh? Rehashing a plan during dinner, then collaborating in the morning to figure out what can be done..”
“Ain’t that the truth. Nothing but our strength to save the world and make a difference for others.” Elizabeth commented with a grin.
Fury gave them a half smile and continued his speech, “Ultron says The Avengers are the only thing between him and his mission. And weather or not he admits it, his mission is global destruction. All this lay in the grave. So stand, out with the platinum bastard.”
Natasha winked at Rick and Rochelle before saying with a smirk, “Steve doesn’t like that kinda talk.”
Steve gave her a humorous mock glare, “You know what, Romanoff?”
The teens and young adults in the room snorted and chuckled. The group kept talking, figuring out what will they all do next, with the young members of the team chiming into the conversations.
Even Jason mentioned, “You can try Pentagon's firewall, are they open this time?”
“That could work, they are still roughly open this time and hour.” Elizabeth comments.
“Should i know why you know that?”
“I had to message the Pentagon years ago to reach an barrier of systemic risks, for SHIELD’s locating tactics. And Tony did something he wasn’t supposed to..”
“Oh god, what was it this time?”
Fury ate his orange slice answering, “You’re boy cracked into SHIELD systemic burns, but beforehand he cracked their firewall.”
“That’s something, I do think I remember he did!” He replied chuckling, “We got mysterious calls afterwards for weeks.”
Tony chimed in with a grin sounding proud and said, “I cracked the Pentagon’s firewall in high school on a dare and got a sweet deal afterwards.”
Elizabeth grinned brightly, “That’s my boy! Definitely a win in my books.”
“And me? I cracked into SHIELD firewall too multiple times.” Rei added with a sly smile, as you could hear his godfather holding back his laughter in the background.
“I love you too, kiddo!” She replied to her sarcastic godson, “Both of you are the reasons for the facility's cyber-security sub-bar.”

FIC REC WEEK 14 – AUTHOR WEEK
AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: Amuly
Amuly is not only a master of smut, but also of unique and interesting concepts. I'm constantly in awe of how varied their writing is. There are a ton of fantastic fics on their AO3, but I'm going to have to limit myself, otherwise I'd probably want to rec all of them, they're just that good.
Here's some of their work that I think you should check out:
Shower Rocks
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 1,268 Tags: Domestic Fluff, Sam is a Good Bro, Steve vs the Future
Summary: Steve decides it's time to stock his shower up with some of Tony's bathing supplies. Even if one of those supplies is a strange, scratchy rock.
Reasons why I love it: First off, the Sam and Steve friendship in this really warms my heart. Steve is such a considerate sweetheart, Tony should hurry up and put a ring on that. This fic is sweet as hell, so go and get yourself a little treat!
Fairy Godmother
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 5,186 Tags: Peggy is Tony's Aunt, Howard Stark's A+ Parenting, Alzheimer's Disease
Summary: Auntie Peggy has been telling Tony stories about Captain America his whole life. Only problem is, the real thing just about measures up to the stories. Which means, of course, that Aunt Peg has to go to work, because an Aunt's work is never done.
Reasons why I love it: Peggy is so sweet with Tony. Thank god for her, honestly, considering how Howard was. And her playing matchmaker is amazing. I love the moment she sees Steve again for the first time, and it's so heart-warming to see Tony visiting her later on in life. I wish we'd gotten that in canon. This fic is wonderful, and I really hope you check it out for yourself!
Close Shave
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: E Words: 4,123 Tags: Shaving, Bathroom Sex, Porn with Feelings
Summary: Steve and Tony are stuck in a hotel room waiting on an AIM arms deal. Tony makes fun of Steve's straightedge razor, Steve thinks Tony's LASER hair remover couldn't possibly do as good as a job. Steve offers to show Tony exactly how close a shave his razor has to offer. Obviously this leads to sex.
Reasons why I love it: This fic is so fucking hot! I could cut the sexual tension between them with a knife, and shaving as foreplay is something I've always loved in fanfic, so this is right up my alley. Plus, the hints of possibly something more than just sex are fantastic. I love this one so much, please go and check it out!
Gold “Member”
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: E Words: 3,004 Tags: Extremis, Sexual Humor, Bottom Steve
Summary: Tony realizes one night that the golden under-armor he pulls out of his skin with Extremis can be pulled out to cover only very specific parts of his anatomy. Namely, his penis. He decides he really needs to share this with Steve.
Reasons why I love it: This fic is hilarious in concept alone, so I was surprised how much the feels actually hit me while I was reading it. Steve and Tony give off major old married couple vibes, their love for each other is palpable. Plus, the smut is really hot – Steve being a sapiosexual made me smile. I love this fic, so I hope you check it out!
Sheriff's Watch
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: E Words: 2,646 Tags: Marvel 1872, Blow Jobs, Western
Summary: Steve and Tony enjoy each other company in Tony's home of technological marvels. But there's something out there, and Steve's beginning to take notice.
Reasons why I love it: I really love the descriptions of Tony's house with all of its inventions. And the smut is so fucking hot, my god. Steve discovering the wonders of sex is always fun, and this fic definitely does the trope justice. I love it so much, and I bet you will too, so please go and check it out for yourself!

january-march reads: stevetony
stony I've read in the past three months
How to Date a Superhero Without Even Trying by sabrecmc | based on a prompt from a Tumblr Anon, it's 2am and Tony drunk dials his ex. He gets Captain America instead. (Warning for attempted non-con that is most definitely interrupted.)
Ripple Effect (post-IW time travel fix it) by sabrecmc | After the events of Infinity War, Steve is sent back in time on a desperate mission to find the Tesseract. Instead, he meets up with 21-year old Tony, still reeling from his parents' deaths. Who, naturally, tries to climb Steve like a tree. Somehow, this fixes everything.
(Restricted) While Everyone's Lost (The Battle Is Won) by jukeboxhound | E, 6.9k words | Steve closes his eyes in 1945 and wakes up in 2012. Well. They certainly didn’t put that on the recruiting poster.
The Future by InesStarkDowney | T, 1.6k words | After the whole Germany thing, Peter is quick to spend a lot of time with his mentor, Tony Stark. And despite feeling and acting like a fanboy over his mentor, Peter is quick to find several things that he wasn't aware about Tony, simply because it's not public knowledge, like: Tony Stark is a very sad man. Peter wants to change that.
You can make this figure with your hips by haemodye | E, 6.2k words | Tony wakes up with a screaming headache, years into the future, where almost everyone he loves is dead.
Bless The Broken Road by PinkEasterEggs | G, 104k words | In 1950, Peter Carter goes missing. In 2005, a boy who looks exactly like Peggy Carter and Steve Roger's kidnapped son is found. Tony doesn't even hesitate (okay, he may have hesitated a little) to take the boy under his wing.
the steve rogers rating system by meidui | G, 866 words | Tony has an internalised Steve Rogers rating system, but it’s not standardised. It’s also not a foolproof system because Steve behaves in ways that crash it all the time.
Kingdom of Iron, Kingdom of Clay [unfinished] by WhenasInSilks | E, 9.9k words | Tony isn't pining. He can’t afford to--doesn't have space for it in his head. It's hard enough just to do his job while wading through the murky waters of post-Accords international politics, and Steve Rogers? He’s a liability, in more ways than one. That's why Tony laid down the law at the end of their last, ill-conceived encounter. “Take care of yourself, Cap. Stay the fuck out of my life.” If only Steve weren’t so lousy at following orders (aka the one where Steve and Tony have a conversation, and then another conversation, and then bang things out in a hotel. There's a lot more nuance, world building, character detail, emotional turmoil, etc. but, like. In a nutshell. part of a series)
ends of the earth by meidui | T, 2k words | “We have a new deal,” Tony interrupts. “From now on, you feel like you messed up, you come home to me. You come home to New York and we figure it out together. If you’re on this cross country road trip and living on a farm because you like it, fine, I’ll come out and visit. But if you’re out here because you’re sorry, I’ve got some bad news for you, buddy. Not even you could fix the entire world.”
A Teddy Bear Named Steve by nightwalker | G, 2.6k words | While cleaning out the attic, Tony finds some old friends he thought long lost.
capsize by killaidanturner | T, 4.4 k words | For the first time Steve sees Peggy in Tony, he always thought it was Howard, the showman, but all along it’s been Peggy and the way that she had her shoulders pulled just a little bit back to make her appear taller.
Life After You by ashinan | G, 2.5k words | Steve knew Peggy had a life after the war. He just didn't think it included telling stories to a young Tony Stark.
Fairy Godmother by Amuly (restricted) | T, 5.1k words | Auntie Peggy has been telling Tony stories about Captain America his whole life. Only problem is, the real thing just about measures up to the stories. Which means, of course, that Aunt Peg has to go to work, because an Aunt's work is never done.
I never knew how much I would lose by percy (shittyspacedads) | T 583 words | It's Peggy Carter's funeral, in the middle of a civil war. And she was very important to both Tony and Steve.
Trying to Bridge Dark Water by sororexitium | T, 4,9k words | Peggy was ninety-one years old and trying to bridge the gap between the then and the now. Steve and Tony were good at making that difficult.

"... I swear i didn't do it." @ peggy. Because auntie.
Bridge of her nose pinched between red lacquered nails, inwardly counting to ten as she had self trained to do whenever it seemed like her infamous temper was going to flare, Peggy merely sighs. “Anthony——” There was exasperated affection in her tone, and in the crinkle of her frown when her eyes lock down his gaze. “I think we both know you wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t done something.” Expression softening, she puts a hand on his bicep, giving a gentle squeeze, “What am I going to do with you, my darling, there is only so much I can protect you from, and yourself is not one of them.”

Can i ask for another AU meme ask ? ...
Little Red Riding hood
Omega Tony/Alpha Bucky
With a dash of protective Howard (really like how you write him)
:D
💝
I'm so glad everyone likes my good-dad-Howard!!!!! <3
--
"Now, you be careful," Howard repeated for what felt like the hundredth time.
Tony sighed, loud and long, and waved his red cloak at him. "Dad, I'm just going to Aunt Peggy's."
"Just because you're wearing your aunt's cloak doesn't mean there isn't danger in the forest," Howard muttered mulishly. "Besides, it's more than just dangerous people in the forest. You could get gored by a bull elk."
"I'm not going to get gored by a bull elk," Tony said, voice flat. "Mom, tell Dad I'm not going to get gored by a bull elk."
Maria looked up from the baby blanket she was pointedly knitting 'because I suppose I'll only ever have babies to dote on from your friends, how sad I will never have grandchildren of my own, oh woe, has Pepper figured out if it's a boy or a girl yet?' "Your father got gored by a bull elk when he was a young man, Tony."
"Jesus Christ," Tony muttered, clasping the cloak around his shoulders.
Howard opened the basket that Tony was taking to Peggy while she convalesced from a broken ankle. "I'm putting a gun in here."
"For the bull elk?" Tony asked, raising an eyebrow.
Howard shrugged. "Eh."
"Dad, nothing is going to happen to me. Aunt Peggy simply wouldn't allow it," Tony sighed, rolling his eyes so hard that his entire body got into the motion.
Howard considered this, then shrugged again, conceding. Even Maria nodded in agreement as she counted her little lace stitches. "If you won't be home by dark, stay with your auntie until tomorrow morning. The creatures that roam at night--"
"Are still pants-shittingly terrified of Aunt Peggy," Tony cut in.
Maria looked up again, gaze sharp, and snarled, "Just stay at Peggy's for the night, Tony. The werewolves that protect the city have sent out a rut warning."
Tony sighed, tipping his head back in frustration, but as much as he argued with his father, he would never pull the same attitude with his mother. "Fine. But all the werewolves I've met have been complete gentlewolves, just so you know."
"Because your father was standing behind you with a gun," Maria muttered to herself. Tony didn't hear her, instead checking the gun Howard had put in the basket was loaded and the safety on before he closed it again and waved at them to begin his walk into the forest to the cottage Peggy hid out in when she was injured.
He was halfway to the cottage when he saw the werewolf off to the side of the path. It was wearing the shiny red collar that all of the werewolves protecting the city did. It had a basket with it. Clearly it was on its way somewhere, too.
"Hello," he said, even though he knew the werewolf had probably heard him coming long before Tony had seen it.
The werewolf gave him an unimpressed stare and asked, "Didn't you hear about the rut warning?"
"I don't think that just because werewolves are werewolves that they have less control of themselves than the average alpha," Tony retorted, scowling. Then he shrugged. "'sides. My dad packed me a gun in case anyone got fresh with me."
"Smart man," the werewolf said, sounding impressed.
"Worry-wort, more like," Tony muttered, scowling a little. "Anyway. I'm just on my way to my aunt's house. If anything happened to me, the attacker would be sorry anyway."
The werewolf picked up its basket in its teeth and fell into step beside him. "Who's your aunt?" he asked around the basket handle.
"Peggy Carter. She always stays out here when she's injured," Tony answered with a shrug. He held out his hand. "Do you want me to take that?"
The werewolf loped forward a few more steps before it finally stood up on its back legs, shifting into its more bipedal form. "I've got it," he said, taking the basket from his mouth. He tilted his head to give Tony some side-eye. "Why are you going to your aunt's?"
"To bring her food," Tony said. He pointed at the cottage as it came into view. "She's not able to get around well right now, so Mom and Dad told me I could pull my weight while I'm home from college and bring her her meals."
The werewolf stopped in his tracks. "...You're taking food to Peggy," he repeated.
Tony blinked up at him, confused. "Yes?"
"But I'm taking food to Peggy," the werewolf said, holding up his own basket.
Tony stared up at him, then dropped his gaze back to the basket. "Huh. That's weird. I wonder why--"
"Tony, your mother keeps haranguing me about finding suitable alphas for you," Peggy shouted out the window, because of course she was waiting for him. "I didn't know what else to do."
"Peggy I'm about to go into rut," the werewolf barked. "Why would you drag me out here in front of an omega when I'm dangerous."
"I figured he'd only be attracted to you that way," Peggy said.
The werewolf clutched a paw to his chest, offended. "I'm a catch. Just because I'm not mated doesn't mean I'm not a catch."
Tony was angry that he found that endearing. "You don't want this meat pie then," he said, hefting his basket.
"You bring me that basket or I'm telling your father he was right to worry about the bull elk," Peggy snapped.
"Bull elk," the werewolf asked, bewildered, as Tony started hustling up to the door.
"I don't wanna talk about it," Tony muttered, scowling, knowing that the werewolf would hear him.

Can you pls write a Loki x Reader after the events of endgame like she was with Steve but he got back with Peggy so Loki help her with depression but eventually both fall for each other...
Yes He is alive for me.....
Add Smut if possible pls🥺🥺🥺
I loved this request 🥺🥺
And he's alive for me too❤️💚
No actual smut as it turned really emotional but I hope you like this
The way you met steve for the first time, you should have known he'll never be YOURS. You found him crying outside the church on the day of her funeral, Peggy was your distant aunty, you two were not close but she was family, you always heard stories about her and Steve Rogers. You didn't want to go to him, you didn't want to comfort him, but you couldn't stop yourself, you were drawn to him and he seemed so hurt, so lost, you wanted to take it all away from him.
So later that day when he kissed you and made love to you, you should have known that you were just a mere distraction from his pain, nothing more. But your heart hoped for more, that's the problem with the matters of the heart, it does what it wants. And when he kept coming back to you, you thought he might just be into you as much as you were. And then he proposed to you, and how could you have said no to him. He made you nervous, everytime you saw him your heart skipped a beat and you wanted to run away and hide because he made you so damn anxious, your body felt hot with a mere touch of his, you were always restless around him, like a lovesick puppy, it wasn't comfortable but god you'd be lying if you said you didn't want it all. You loved him.
But when Thanos arrived everything became different, after they lost the fight, and lost half of the team, things changed, you got married to Steve, he became your husband and you were both living in a different world but at least you had him with you. Since tony left, Steve and Natasha kept everything in control at the tower, after the war, Loki came to live on earth as well, he survived Thanos, he was too powerful to not.
The first time he saw you in the post blip world, you were fixing Roger's tie as he focused on his speech, your eyes on him, his eyes on the paper. You adored him and he didn't adore you enough. Then he saw something he shouldn't have, he kissed the picture of Peggy he kept in his wallet before he stepped on the stage for his speech. He didn't kiss you. His wife.
You knew his heart didn't belong to you completely but you hoped that with time he would move on from Peggy. Loki was mysterious and aloof with everyone else but every time you saw himi, he looked at you as if he pitied you, his eyes so soft, his voice so gentle as he spoke to you. He didn't need to do so you thought, Steve was your husband, he chose you.
When a new hope arrived a few years later, you begged Steve to not let go and he promised you he would be safe and that he would protect you. He promised to come back to you. But then Thanos attacked the tower and you found yourself buried under the rubble of the destruction, and you didn't want to die, you couldn't, he would be distraught without you, he already lost so much he couldn't lose you too.
You screamed his name out loud but he didn't come, somebody else did, Loki did, he saved your life, he took you somewhere far away from the destruction, somewhere they won't find you. Somewhere they won't hurt you, he healed you as best as he could and then he went back to the war. "Please don't let him die" you begged him "And loki?" He turned around with a hopeful look in his eyes "Please be safe" He saved you and you gave him hope.
After the war, Steve chose to fix everything and he insisted on placing the stones where they belonged. You have already lost Natasha, your best companion in the last five years, you couldn't lose anymore. So steve promised you that he would be back, in 5 seconds. He did come back, but he wasn't your steve, he was Peggy's husband. Your heart broke at the sight of him, he grew old without you, he chose her at the end. With her picture still in his wallet, how did you ever think otherwise? How could you be so foolish.
You wanted to give up, you wanted to let go and disappear, your husband left you in the middle of the journey, he didn't give you a chance, he didn't choose you. How could you go on like this?
When steve didn't come back for you or come back how you wanted him to, Loki knew you'd be heart broken and shattered, he was the love of your life after all, so he followed you and maybe he shouldn't have because the immense pain he felt as he watched you wailing and breaking down on your bedroom floor is something that would haunt him forever. He wanted to comfort you but he knew no matter what he says or does in the moment, it would never be enough. Not now.
So he didn't, but he stuck around the tower, he helped you slowly and steadily, he spent time with you, did things you loved doing and every time you needed a shoulder to cry on to he would always be there. You two became close but never close enough, you still missed your husband. The betrayal remained fresh in your mind, your heart refused to heal no matter how much loki tried.
"Y/n, we are watching a movi.." he cut his sentence short as he saw you crying, your hand gripping a shirt, it probably belonged to steve. You stopped as soon as you heard him and you kept the shirt back in the closet. "You need to let go Y/n, it's not healthy" he raised his voice, it was so hard for him to watch you like this. It's been a year since he left.
"You think I don't know that loki?" You raised your voice too, loki has been there for you everytime you needed someone to calm you down, to hug you, to hold you, to comfort you, to give you hope, he was always there but you knew he felt bad for you. Why else would he do this ? "I'm tired of you pitying me loki" you yelled and he walked towards you. Your words cut him deep. He didn't pity you, far from it, he loved you.
"Is that why you think I have been there for you all this time ?" He asked you, his voice sad and broken, he reminded you of someone. Of yourself "I'm sorry Loki but you don't know what it's like to watch the love of your life pick someone else over you, again and again" you cried, your voice choked on your own tears and he smiled as he teared up "I Know all about it y/n, you think I was there for you all along because I pitied you?" Your eyes widened at the realization, he didn't pity you, he loved you, the gentle voice, the soft looks he gave you, they weren't the looks of pity but of love.
You ran towards him before he could walk away and you hugged him tightly and then you kissed him fiercely, with Steve you were always shy, always holding yourself back but with Loki, you felt the urge to pour everything you had in you into him at that very moment. He didn't push you away or pull back, he kissed you as fiercely as you did.
"I can't be his replacement y/n, I would never be him" his eyes pleading you to let go, because he won't be able to, he didn't need to have sex with you, he was already head over heels in love with you, but having you this way for a night would only make him crave you more, it would only drive him crazier for you "Please loki please, please just don't go" you begged him, you felt extremely selfish in the moment, and it reminded you of someone again, Of steve. That's how he was with you.
How could he let go when you begged him so, he picked you up effortlessly and he laid you down on the bed, he craved you, he needed you. As soon as you felt him inside you, you moaned his name loudly, you were so loud and vocal, and he loved every little sound you made for him as he thrusted in and out of your warmth. He was in love with you and he would never get over you after this. "I love you my sweetheart, I love you so much it hurts" Of Course you didn't respond to his loving words as he came inside you, you were selfish but not as selfish as steve. You won't do what he did with you.
But After that night, your relationship with loki changed, you couldn't stay away from him no matter how much you tried he would always be there for you and at night he would pleasure you in ways you have never been pleasured and you felt addicted to him, every little touch of his felt like home. He didn't make you nervous but calm instead, every time you saw him, you wanted to run into his arms and stay there for eternity, you were always relaxed around him, he loved you and you fell in love with him.
Loki saw you holding Steve's shirt in your hands again as he entered your room, and his heart broke all over again, but then you looked at him and you ran towards him, you hugged him so tightly as you kissed him. He was breathless when you pulled away, and you knew you were his.
"The night Thanos attacked, how did you find me lo?" You asked him and he kissed your forehead gently "I ..I uhh.. I was looking for you, I needed to make sure you were safe" He chose you above everything else, whatever miniscule doubt you had in your mind, it all disappeard.
"Burn it please" you whispered in his ears and he looked at you shocked and surprised as you passed him his shirt. "Whattt?" His voice came out all shaky "Burn the shirt lo, I'm done, I'm done feeling sorry for myself, I'm done pitying myself, and I'm done pretending as if .. as if I'm not in love with you" he teared up instantly as he heard your confession. In love with him, you're in love with him.
"What if someday Rogers comes back? Who would you choose?" He asked you and you wiped the teardrop that fell over his cheeks "I'll kick his ass lo and send him back to where he belongs, I would never let you go"
He cupped your cheeks as he heard and he kissed you again. He was not Steve's replacement, he was your home, you needed to find steve to find him and you were happy that you did, you belonged to him. He used his magic to burn the shirt away, then he made it disappear and you finally felt so free "I love you" you whispered in his ear softly and he couldn't stop smiling after that, then he responded.
"I always did"

Age of Ultron | s.r
Pairings: Steve Rogers x Stark!Reader, Steve Rogers x Peggy Carter (hinted), Bucky Barnes x Stark!Reader (future)
Genre: Fluff, Angst
Summary: When Ultron strikes against the Avengers using the Maximoff kids, the visions that Wanda shows Y/n Stark make her lash out and use her powers—powers that her team didn't know about. This is the aftermath.
(These scenes incorporate y/n into the pre-existing story as a character without making drastic changes to the plot or mythos. All the major plot points from the MCU remain in place with the addition of the reader as Static, who is not only a Stark but also enhanced. Whatever events from the canon aren't mentioned, take place without much change.)
Warnings: Mentions of canon typical violence.
a/n: Okay, okay. So this basically a flashback set during the events of Age of Ultron to provide some more information on Static's origin. There are more scenes that incorporate her into several of the films, if this does well, I'll add them as well. While this can stand alone, it is a tie-in to The Falcon, The Winter Soldier, and Static series. Also oh, the tag list is open.
sidenote: I'd really appreciate feedback on this one. Also, buckle up kids, it's a long one.

“Folks, this is Laura,” Clint introduced, as he held—who Y/n presumes is his wife—close to his side.
“I know all your names,” replied Laura, hesitantly and waved a dismissive hand.
Laura looked around the room.
Y/n could taste the awkward tension in the room on her tongue. She could even spot Tony next to her throwing out a small wave at the woman. She was standing between him and Bruce, still in her gear while leaning heavily on the beam to her left.
She tried to reciprocate the smile on Laura’s lips but could only muster a twitch of her lip. The exhaustion felt evident even to herself.
Which was fairly understandable considering she had just blown away half an (abandoned) industrial complex to bits only a few short hours ago. She hadn’t used her powers in a considerably long time; give or take half a century, so it was an unusual situation for her to say the least.
Suddenly she could hear multiple footsteps approaching.
Clint turned towards the door and said, “Ooh, incoming,” as a young boy and a girl came rushing down the stairs.
“Dad!” the girl exclaimed as Clint picked her up.
“Hi, sweetheart!” Clint greeted them. He pulled the older boy in for a hug, kissing his head, “Hey buddy! How you guys doing?”
The joy in his voice warmed Y/n up from the inside.
“These are...smaller agents,” Tony remarked.
Y/n wanted to roll her eyes but it would’ve taken effort she wasn’t sure she could dish out at that moment.
“Look at your face!” Clint placed another kiss on his daughter’s head before putting her down. “Oh, my goodness!”
“Did you bring Auntie Nat?” the girl asked, ever so sweetly.
“Why don't you hug her and find out?” Natasha replied from the corner of the room. She stepped forward as the girl rushed towards her, picking her up in her arms.
“Sorry for barging in on you,” Steve apologized sincerely, with his hands resting on his belt. It was his ‘Captain America’ stance and she knew why he was wearing it. He was realising that he knew very little about his team, about the people he had been fighting with. So he was putting up the composed facade to stop himself from breaking at the seams.
“Yeah, we would have called ahead, but we were busy having no idea that you existed.” Tony retorted.
Natasha put the little girl down and stood between Bruce and Clint, who had his arms around his son and Laura on either side.
“Yeah, well Fury helped me set this up when I joined,” he answered. “He kept it off SHIELD's files, I'd like to keep it that way.” He looked at Y/n. “I figure it's a good place to lay low," he added.
There were some more conversations, but Y/n had mostly zoned out for it. She could spot Thor leaving, passing them by and Steve following behind, before she lost her resolve, almost falling to the ground.
“Hey, hey. Easy there, tiger.” Tony said, catching her quickly. He put his arm around her waist and pulled her's over his shoulder. “Anywhere I can put down the suspected Manchurian Candidate?” He asked.
“I didn’t betray the damn country, Tony,” she chided.
“The guest bedroom’s upstairs,” Laura stated as she began leading the way.
“I said ‘suspected’, didn’t I?” He threw back, cocking his brow.
“I said ‘suspected’, didn’t I?” She mimicked back to him.
Tony and Y/n slowly made their way up the stairs.
“Glorious come back, Stark,” Tony mocked. “One for the history books. You know, the ones that you’re a part of?”
Well, Tony made his way up the stairs; Y/n was just dead weight he was carrying.
“You’re going to start making old people jokes on me now, aren’t you?” Y/n sighed.
“I’ve been holding back for decades,” he stated. “Do you know how much self control that took?”
For any other mortal man? Not much. For Tony? Almost the size of Texas.
“Come on, cut me some slack,” she whined. “A 16 year old just fuc—" Oh fuck, there's kids around, "fudged with my head and made me go all Elsa from Frozen.”
They finally stepped into the room. Laura fussed around, clearing up the bed for her.
“I’ll get you some water,” she suggested politely. “Would you like anything else?”
Tony helped Y/n onto the bed. “No no. Thank you. You’ve got a lovely home... I wish we could have met under better circumstances,” Y/n answered with as much warmth as she could muster.
“I didn’t think I was ever going to meet any of you, to be honest. So I’ll take what I can get,” she replied with a kind smile. “I’ll get you some pain killer, just in case.” And with that she left the room.
‘Well, Clint got lucky,” Y/n noted, laying down on the bed, looking up at the ceiling. She brought her arm up over her eyes to cover up the bright sunlight pouring in which made her head hurt worse.
“Amen,” Tony replied as he sat down on the foot of the bed. His hand came to rest on her feet as he looked ahead.
She knew exactly what he was thinking but wanted to give him time to compose his words before rebuking him.
Silence fell between the siblings.
“I’m sorry—” Tony began but was promptly cut off.
“Wasn’t your fault,” she said simply, meaning it.
She could feel Tony's fall on her then. So she pulled her arm up, off her eyes. “They’re all looking at you like you’re a ticking time bomb. If I hadn’t—”
“Playing with things you did not understand? Yeah that was your fault. Your hubris.” She looked at him dead in the eyes as she said the next words, “But whatever happened out there, me losing control? That wasn’t on you.”
“Wasn’t on you either,” Tony reassured her.
“We’ll have to see about that,” she sighed, looking up at the ceiling. “Now go away, Stark. I need my beauty sleep.”
The last thing she could hear was Tony laughing as she let all the exhaustion consume her. And unlike most days, sleep came hammering down on her with the weight of a hundred freight cars, pulling her down like gravity.
But her sleep was far more restless than it had ever been before. She woke up, gasping and clutching onto her chest. She sat up instantly, almost feeling like her heart would beat out of her chest.
“Are you okay?” Asked a small voice next to her.
She turned her head to see Clint’s daughter looking at her, peeking out from the doorway.
“I’ve been better,” Y/n replied.
“You fight auntie Nat and Daddy?” she asked.
“Sometimes,” Y/n answered as she began climbing out of the bed. The moment she put her feet on the floor, she realised they were naked. Having just woken up and still lacking brain function all she could do was stare at her feet accusingly while grumbling, “I am so sure I used to have shoes.”
There was a pat on her thigh. She turned to look at the suspect only to find the girl looking up at her, while simultaneously pointing at the end of the bed where her shoes were lying on the ground.
“Thanks,” Y/n remarked, picking them up. “I’m Y/n.”
“Lila,” she replied with a kind smile.
“Nice to make your acquaintance, Lila,” Y/n said, offering her hand which Lila promptly accepted, shaking it. "Good assist," she remarked.
A smile crawled it’s way up to Y/n’s face.
She made her way outside onto the porch with Lila in toe.
Barton was working on building the railing with his son as Lila rushed past Y/n and joined them.
“Hey, look who’s up!” Clint exclaimed when he spotted her. He had changed into casuals, she noticed. So had Steve and Tony who were a few feet away from them, on the field.
“Thanks for letting us rain on your super secret parade. Barton,” Y/n making her way down the steps. “Appreciate it.”
“Yeah well, can you show your gratitude by fixing the tractor?” Clint asked jovially.
“I’ll get my best man on it,” Y/n answered as she made her way over to where Steve and Tony were chopping firewood. She could see from the way they held themselves, they were both on edge. No doubt having some philosophical debate over whether to create or not to create artificial intelligence using alien technology. “Tony!” She called out, “Go fix the tractor.”
Tony cocked his head back to look at her but she was too busy looking at Steve, who was finally looking at her. He had avoided her gaze since he’d calmed her down from her very powerful and very destructive breakdown (courtesy of one Wanda Maximoff). She didn’t know if preferred the blatant cold shoulder or the look of plain hurt she was currently witnessing in his eyes.
“You sure?” Tony asked.
“Positive,” she reassured him. She had to have this conversation eventually. And she would’ve preferred knowing sooner, rather than later if she was still going to be able to have the man she loved or not.
Tony turned around. “Don’t take from my pile,” he warned Steve before he began walking in the direction of the shed, behind her. He pressed a kiss to her cheek as he passed her by. Her eyes fell close at the contact as her lips curled up by a bit.
It was his way of telling her, no matter what happens, she’d always have him.
The sound of his whistle made her turn her head. “I’m right behind you,” He promised.
“I know,” she answered.
And with that he turned around and walked away.
“How are you feeling?” Steve asked.
Honestly? She felt like absolute shit. Her body felt like it was on fire, exhaustion was ingrained into her bones. Her head was running in all directions and her heart was beating faster than she would have liked. She felt exposed and vulnerable but more than all that she felt scared.
She had something here, after ages and ages of nothing; she had something, someone. And she loved him, with all that she had and all that she was.
“We can skip the niceties,” she answered, “jump straight to what you want to know.”
“I am asking because I want to know,” Steve said, and his voice felt almost painfully soft. He managed to throw in so much emotion into the few words, Y/n could feel her tough exterior break. But then again, she never could keep it up when it came to him. His eyes were always so soft and kind, so damn beautiful, she could not help but cave, every single time.
“I’m fine… Exhausted. But fine.”
There was silence then. They stood there, looking at each other, only a few steps apart, in utter silence.
Until he stepped forward, and ever so carefully, brought his hands to cup her face. Her hands made their way onto his sides, automatically. Her body moulded to his without thought. And in his arms, she felt like she could finally give in and let her armor fall.
Rubbing comforting circles on her cheeks with his thumb, he said, “You scared me for a second there.” His voice was lower than a whisper. She wouldn't have heard it if it weren't for her chest pressing into his.
“Didn’t know Captain America could get scared,” she joked. Her eyes were searching his, for a hint of a smile but all she could find was worry and… guilt?
“Didn’t know I’d ever have to see you, like that… Didn’t know I’d have to see you afraid,” he answered solemnly.
And with those words she let the dam break. Tears began making their way down her face and in an instant he was kissing them away.
“I didn’t want to hurt anyone,” she choked out.
“You didn’t,” he assured her in between kisses. “You didn’t.”
“But I could hav—”
She was cut off by his lips crashing into hers.
While the movement was rough, where their lips met it was nothing but tenderness. His lips began moving against her slowly, while her hands tried to pull him closer and he obliged—as best he could—without hesitation. She needed him, she needed as much of him as she could have. She wanted him to consume her so all her exhaustion and fear would fall away, leaving only Steve. But more than that she wanted to be close enough for them to become one so she wouldn’t have to lose him.
Her tongue licked his lips, politely asking for admittance, and he gave it willingly without thought, pulling her closer still. Their tongues danced around each other and she could feel herself melting away with each flick. The kiss was a culmination of too many things at once, she could taste his worry, fear and… this guilt that she didn’t want to address. Meanwhile she was sure he could taste her relief, exhaustion and panic. It was pure need; to feel the other, for both of them to make sure what they had in front of them was real.
When they broke apart, they didn’t move away. Their foreheads came to rest together, eyes still connected.
“Were you ever going to tell me?” Steve asked, finally addressing the elephant in the field. His tone wasn’t accusatory, only curious.
“You will come to find out, hiding it forever was never a plausible option,” she answered, diplomatically, her eyes falling shut.
“That’s not what I asked.”
“I thought—I didn’t think I’d have you long enough for me to have to,” she told him, honestly. She commended herself for her voice breaking only a bit at the end.
His reply was a heavy exhale. “You have me, doll,” he told her, kissing the top of her head and pulling her into his chest. “You’ll always have me.”
Now, Steven Grant Rogers was a great many things, but a good liar wasn’t one of them.
Y/n though, was a fucking expert. So she told herself she believed him.
“Ah, young love.... Oh, wait.” They turned their head to see Fury, stood there in all his glory. He was wearing a teasing smile on his face, proud of his own inside joke, which wasn't going to stay an inside joke in a couple minutes.
“If you’re done with your Thelma and Louise moment, we’ve got somes shit to do,” Tony chided, walking up the stairs and into the house.
“Christ on a cracker, Tony. Watch your foul mouth. You know how my mister gets,” Y/n teased, finally feeling a smile crawl its way onto her lips.
Steve’s head fell back in faint annoyance, as he sighed heavily, “Am I ever gonna live this down?”
Y/n and Tony only laughed in response, which was a clear enough answer.
The rest of the team greeted Fury, grabbed a bite to eat and then eventually situated themselves around the kitchen.
Natasha sat on the dining table, Bruce stood behind her, leaning on the kitchen counter. Steve stood opposite to them, behind the table, leaning against the wall to his left. Fury was at the other end of the kitchen, while Clint was standing a couple steps to Steve’s right. Tony was standing at the head of the dining table and Y/n was sitting on the opposite end.
Everyone waited patiently for answers. But no one dared to make a noise.
Until “Can someone just ask and get it over with?” Y/n called out, exasperated.
“Fine,” Natasha spoke up and Y/n had to admit, if she were placing bets, she would’ve bet on Natasha being the one to ask. She never shied away from a confrontation. She was too tough for it. “What are you?”
“I don’t know,” Y/n answered honestly, pulling at the sleeves of the sweats she was now in.
“You don’t know?” Clint asked, confused, with his brows furrowed.
“Well, I know I’m not human… not entirely at least,” she explained.
This was gonna be a tough fucking conversation. A long fucking story.
So she gathered her breath, letting it out audibly, and began, “Let’s take this from the top… It started out the same way it did for most of the people in this room, in a lab. Captain America was a shiny new toy and every nation wanted one of their own. Now, I, on the other hand, was a broke, angry little thing when a couple men came to the factory I worked at, talking about how they’d pay a bunch of money to anyone who would participate in these experiments they had going on. So I signed up; a couple injections and stupid little tests seemed like an easy cash grab. And it was all dandy in the beginning until... one by one the volunteers began to disappear.” She looked at Tony, the only one in the room who knew her whole story from beginning to end. “You have to understand where I’m from… In Madripoor that really isn’t a very remarkable occurrence and well, the money was too good. So I kept going back for more until I was the last one standing. They realized I was their golden goose.” Tony walked over to stand next to her.
“Then they obviously did not let me leave. Tests got worse, more painful. But then one day they wanted to try something new; electrocution… Which turned out to be a very very stupid idea cause that made something spark inside me and suddenly I was blowing up. I think that mixed with all the things they were dosing me up with triggered whatever powers I had inside,” she said with a hollow smile.
“Was it Hydra?” Steve asked, hesitantly, his hands still crossed over his chest while his face was etched with agony.
“No no. Well, not at first. It was the government of Madripoor. But after my powers got triggered, they couldn’t control me, so then they sold me off to Hydra,” she answered, her head falling. She hated this part. “And then it got so much worse.” Tony’s hand came to rest on her shoulder, “They made me do their bidding, obviously as all evil organizations do. A mindless assassin they could control without issue,” she could feel Steve’s eyes boring into her but she didn’t have the strength to look up just yet. “They did have issues though, cause they couldn’t brainwash me; I mean they tried, but electrotherapy just juiced up my powers and I went on a rampage, took down half the base until they came rolling in with tear gas and tranquilizers… So they brought in an enforcer.” Then she did look up Steve and both of them knew who the enforcer was.
The Winter Soldier.
She could see Steve’s face drain of color as he connected all the dots.
“There were other subjects there too; we fought. Whoever won, ‘trained’ with the enforcer, and whoever stopped breathing, lost. I think they were thinning the crop,” she added, somewhat lost in the memories. She hated this part with a ferocity she could not put words to. So she moved along. “Anyway, it was all very brutal and tragic, you get the picture,” she said somewhat jovially as Tony’s grip on her shoulder tightened. “Eventually Peggy barged in, got me out… I didn’t really have a home or identity to speak of; I was an orphan from the streets of Madripoor. So, Howard took me in, gave me a home. And Peggy gave me a place to belong. I ended up joining S.H.I.E.L.D. cause what else was I gonna do with my skills?” She scoffed. “But I didn’t use my powers. I was—Well, I was scared to… I haven’t used them since I escaped the Hydra facility. Not substantially, at least.” She breathed out, “Until now...”
Another silence fell on the room.
Until Natasha broke it again, “Y/n, you just said Peggy Carter broke you out…” Y/n nodded for her to continue, knowing exactly where it was going. “But she retired from field duty in the ‘60s.”
Y/n said nothing because it wasn’t a question. It was an insinuation… and a correct one at that. So she just shrugged.
“Y/n,” Clint began, very confused. “Ho—How old are you?”
“Have some manners, Barton! You should never say that to a lady,” Tony chided mockingly.
Y/n knew he was trying to make her laugh. And it worked. “Let’s just say I prefer dating men my age,” she answered looking back at Steve.
“But you look—you look younger than all of us,” Bruce remarked from his corner.
“Why thanks, Bruce. You’re very kind.” Y/n smiled. “It’s my powers I think,” she explained.
“Which are what exactly?” Bruce asked, his curiosity was evident. “You looked like you were… glitching from one place to another.”
“It—It’s like teleportation of sorts. Except I open a portal into another dimension, fall into it and open it somewhere else. To anyone else, it looks like I’ve… glitched—for lack of a better term—from one place to another. When in reality—”
“You’re traveling in the other dimension,” Bruce summarized. "You can open it anywhere? Travel, anywhere?"
She shook her head, "I can only open it with my hands, but once inside I can travel as far as I want—"
"—coming out wherever you want," Burce completed.
She nodded. "But I need to know the layout, have it in my eyesight or I could pop out in the middle of a wall or something... which isn't pretty," her brows furrowed, remembering. "Trust me."
“Neat, ain’t it?” Tony beamed.
He always saw her as more than she was. He always was in awe of her when she didn’t feel like really did anything to deserve it.
“But it seems instantaneous,” Bruce argued, his face contorted in the way it usually did when he was focusing. The scientist in him was having a field day, she could tell.
“Time moves faster in this dimension,” she explained. “That’s why I think I age… slower.”
“Wait!” Clint exclaimed pointing at her and Tony, “That means you’re the oldest—not Tony.”
“That actually makes a lot more sense,” Steve said evenly, nodding his head. Simultaneously Natasha said, “It explains so much.” Bruce nodded as well as he said, “Answers so many questions.”
Y/n couldn’t help but chuckle, especially when Tony squealed, throwing up his hands in mock offense. “Hey! I played my part of the Bart to her Lisa Simpson pretty damn well, alright? I heard no complaints before, you traitors.”
“But wait,” Natasha interrupted Tony’s rant, “When we met, Fury had to convince you to join S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Fury let out a snort from behind them, “Officially she left back in the ‘60s. Said, it all got too bureaucratic for her taste.”
“Hank Pym’s god-awful haircut didn’t help,” she muttered to herself.
“So I take it, you knew?” Steve asked rhetorically.
Fury shrugged in response.
“Why do you think he sent me to recruit you for the Avengers Initiative?” Y/n asked Steve while looking intently at Fury who was wearing a cocky smile.
“Just thought you two crazy kids would get along,” Fury said coyly.
Steve shook his head, but Y/n could see his lips curve up at the corner. But then he looked up all of a sudden. She could tell what the spark in his eyes meant, so she waited. And he didn’t disappoint. “What about your arms, though?” He asked suddenly. “They were covered in a—in an armor, of sorts?”
She looked at him, leaning back on the chair, “Well, that one’s a little harder to explain.”
“You calling us dumb, Stark?” Natasha chided lightly.
Y/n laughed, “No, no. I wouldn’t dare.” She felt a weight lift watching her friend smile back at her amiably. “Okay—Um... I guess you could say I have free reign in this dimension; I can create anything I want while I’m in there. So, if I can extend the portal and mold it around my arms—”
“—You can create armor… or anything you want,” Bruce finished.
Y/n nodded in assent. “Burns me out, but yeah. I can.”
“Awesome,” Steve remarked with fascination. He said almost to himself, the word feeling foreign on his lips, she still liked it though. But when his eyes met hers, they both broke out in a fond smile.
“But, why wouldn’t you tell us?” Bruce asked.
“We’re a room full of experiments,” Steve stated, “If there was anyone who’d get it—”
“—you’re looking at ‘em,” Natasha finished.
Y/n breathed in heavily in fear of the daunting task of wording her emotions.
Sensing her anxiety, Tony whistled. She looked up to meet his eyes.
“I’m right behind you, Stark.” He winked at her with his signature 'Tony Stark' smile. And she couldn’t help but reciprocate it as some of the tension fell away.
She looked around the room and then said, “I didn’t want to become a test subject again.”
The silence that proceeded hung heavy amongst the crowd.
Apart from a handful of people, like Fury, Peggy, and the Starks, no one had known who she truly was. What she truly was. It was by design because the fear of being strapped down to a chair again still kept her up at night.
“You won’t,” Steve spoke with so much determination, it was almost a promise. His eyes told her as much as they met.
“Keeping secrets is my whole job profile,” Natasha chimed in, with a comforting yet smug smile.
“I’ve kept this a secret,” Clint said motioning to his house, “what’s one more?”
“I think it’s safe to say if Tony can keep his mouth shut, so can the rest of us,” Bruce added with mirth.
Everyone let out soft chuckles, as Tony objected, “I resent that insinuation.”
“Alright with that overly emotional cathartic moment out of the way… Can we focus on Ultron?” Y/n asked.
She could hear Laura and the kids making their way down the stairs as Fury began giving them a rundown of the situation.
