I love that Twitter screenshot with Young Gaius.
Imagine Aegon becoming just SO obsessed with his young aunt, Lady Hightower. She’s only a bit older than he is. Head of red hair, she looks a bit like Alicent had as a younger woman (not that Aegon knows).
Aegon never really even saw her as an Aunt. Lady Hightower was His very special friend who he wanted to impress and never disappoint. She’s not fond of drinking and whoring, but she’s vivacious and clever! He wished Alicent had betrothed them…
Aemond enjoys their aunt. She’s maternal, kind, and matches The Maiden’s image. Aemond is also deeply obsessed with her, but often plays the role of stoic knight. Pious, protective, waiting for his chance to marry her and spoil her with domestic bliss (seven babies).
And Daeron— oh. Daeron! He grew up with her. He knows her the very best out of all his brothers. He takes her on rides on Tessarion. He plays her songs on his lute. He fights hard during tourneys if she’s around. He is the perfect knight, therefore, HE will marry Pretty Aunt Hightower.
!!!!!!! THESE BOYS !!
Oh he's so obsessed with her , its unreal. Especially if he becomes King soon; he thinks he has all the power. She will come into the throne room looking so unimpressed as he drinks with his Boyz on the throne.
Aemond as ever playing the long game and oh how he thinks it will end in his favour. They have much in common, spending the evenings with their heads in books, much to Aegon's annoyance.
Daeron has an advantage that's for sure; he comes to the capitol with her as well and he keeps her close; under the pretence of not wanting to be alone in this new place

Pradira #9
It was difficult to slip out of her aunt's grasp, her aunt was not one who could be fooled easily, however, she had something that she had to do. Disappearing into the shadows she reappeared in a hidden hall, she walked through the darkness and stopped when she got to a door. She pushed the door open and looked at her papa. He was sitting up in bed reading, but he looked a lot better than he had done a century ago. The council had badly injured him and it had taken him nearly a century to regain his strength, there were times when he didn't feel strong enough to leave the bed. Not that she could fault him for it. He had been stabbed through the heart and decapitated. It took time to heal from such wounds. He almost didn't. It had only been because of their bond that he had even been able to pull through, even now, there were times when the bond between them was thin. Far to thin. She worried that he wouldn't fully recover. But he was recovering, another decade or so and he would be back to his full strength.
Today must be a good day, he was sitting up in bed reading a book, with a soft smile on his face as he turned the page. "A good read?" She loved her papa but she detested wearing the crown, there were only a handful that knew she was acting as Regent and not as the Princess. It was a heavy burden to bear and as much as she hated it, she would do it for her papa. "It is an interesting read?" She leaned against the door frame and looked at him, he looked up at her and she noticed that the colour had returned. He gestured for her to come closer, his sharp claws were in need of a trim, she had meant to do it the last time she visited but there had been a lot going on and she had forgotten to do it. She sat on the bed and pulled one of the draws open and rummaged around for a pair of clippers, she knew that she had left them in the room. "This isn't just a social call." Despite being in recovery there was no denying that his mind was still as sharp as ever, but then again, she had never been able to hide much from him. "The royal family of Eden has come to visit and I am unsure as to why, from what I have been able to pick up, it isn't a state visit and nor are they here for any political reasons." Alastor snorted and looked at his daughter, he loved Sarah, he truly did. But there were some things that simply escaped her. A holiday was one such thing. "Most likely they are on holiday." A confused expression appeared on her face as she mouthed the word holiday over and over again, as if she was trying to figure out what it meant. "Not everyone works, works and keeps on working. The common people get two days a week off, they have a week at the beginning of spring for the Spring Harvest, then they get a week off at the beginning of summer, another week in autumn and then they get two weeks off at the beginning of winter. Not to mention that they get every royal birthday off and there are also the state holidays that they get off as well. The only two being in the whole kingdom that don't get time off are you and me." Alastor felt a sharp stab of pain that had nothing to do with the wounds that he was recovering from, he had never been able to take Sarah on holiday. For the most part, she didn't celebrate her birthday, she let the common people have their day off and have parties. But she didn't celebrate it, instead, she would burn the midnight oil working. Pradira had taken so much from them both, it was why they had tried to make sure that Vaggie and Lute had childhoods. That they didn't suffer the way that they had done. No one should suffer the way that they had. No one.

Been thinking a lot about the torment of my current dnd character: Astra
They were raised with high expectations placed on them - the oldest "true" child of the noble Thorngrove family's second son. They needed to do well, they needed to prove themself especially because their father had failed to live up to their grandparents' expectations in many ways and they admired their uncle and aunt who had risen to being a general and marshal respectively and highly respected dragonriders. It became their dream to become just like them and trained and studied hard for decades for it.
Their adoptive siblings were never quite accepted by their grandparents but Astra themself was close with them. The older ones, at least. There was a halfling named Poppy, who was the oldest of the children and looked after the younger ones to protect them from and help them avoid the scorn of their grandparents. She was never as close with Astra because of this - Astra was never someone who needed her protection because they would never have to deal with the same things that the adopted children did - but they had an understanding from their shared affection of the other siblings.
Bree was the second oldest - already five years younger than Poppy - and was a very cheerful gnome who got up to a lot of trouble. She was the one closest with Astra and also with Poppy - their primary connecting tie. Then, there was Soren, a half-elf the same age as Astra. He was quiet and bookish and his studious personality matched Astra's very well. While Bree would often drag them both out on "adventures", Soren and Astra when left alone would be very content with sitting in the castle library with a book.
For a long while, it was just them, though they gained more siblings later on - both blood related and adopted - and Astra did love them as well, the adoration that they had for Bree and Soren especially was unmatched. When Bree grew up, she knew she couldn't stick around. Poppy had taken up a job in the castle kitchens to carry on her role of looking after her siblings when they needed her but Bree had always had a tougher time and she couldn't be cooped up. When she made up her mind to become a bard and travel the country, or the world, Astra gifted her with the lute that they had been given years back. It would be better in her hands anyway. Soren always admired that she did that and, when he came of age, he followed Bree into adventure.
Astra, meanwhile, trained with a monk by the sea and met a sea elf named Ariawyn. They took part in the Trial of the Drakes with another (adopted) brother of theirs: Alaric, their best friend Ariawyn, and many others and all three of them succeeded. They each formed a bond with a dragon egg and it was something that Astra would always consider the best moment of their life as they held it in their arms.
When it came to deciding their role along with the others that they were going to run a territory with with as dragonriders, Astra ended up having to take over the role of spymaster. They weren't prepared for it and they didn't know how to properly be a spymaster but they were determined to do their best. Running the territory was turbulent - especially at first - and all of them were scrambling to figure out how to do this but most worrying of all was a dream they'd shared fortelling the return of a great evil: the Lichelord. A man so terrible that the spirit realm itself refused to take him. A mortal-turned-immortal so powerful that it took several gods smiting him to finally be rid of him in an act so devastating that the land surrounding where this event happened is a permanent scar of necrotic energy.
Somehow, they were involved in his fate: whether he would get brought back or not. Bit by bit, they uncovered more information about what bits of their prophecy meant and found clues to what they might need to do.
After an incident where Astra and another of the council, Ariphena, almost lost their dragon eggs, Astra became much more protective over their egg. They would visit it every day. The increased security wasn't as reassuring as watching over it themself so, with the absence of the one who had been looking after them (a dragon lord who had left to tell the king when Astra had confided in him about the prophecy they'd had), Astra took up the self-appointed role of guardian of the eggs. They would read in their egg's presence - sometimes, in the dead of night when they were sure they were alone they would read to the egg in the hopes that the dragon inside might hear it or that the egg might hatch soon. Alaric and Ariawyn's dragon eggs had hatched and although they knew it could take decades - even a century - Astra still hoped that they would have the same luck that their loved ones had. To an outside observer, sometimes it could seem like Astra's office had moved to where the eggs were being kept because when they just had paperwork to do, they would move it to stay by their egg. Most amusing to their council members, perhaps, was their newfound habit of giving the egg a gentle pat each time they arrived or left after Ariawyn and Ariphena had suggested showing the egg affection.
Soon enough, their clues about what they should do to prevent the return of the Lichelord turned to a potential answer in the form of theories matching up with a vision that one of them had received. All of it was pointing that they needed to go to the Otherland and what better time to go than as soon as possible. With Ariawyn deciding to stay to look after the territory, the other three quickly put the plans together to find that place in Alaric's vision. They were off within a matter of days.
The Court of Flames was a place of endless danger. The time they spent there was no more than a few days but it was filled with more danger and fear than Astra had faced in their lifetime.
They made it back, with only a brief accidental run-in with a giantkin beholder where they landed that they fled from, and talked at length about what they should do to find out how long it had been - or not been - whether they were in the past or future or returned a mere few minutes after they'd left. They wanted to make sure not to run into their past selves but as it turned out, they needn't have worried because as they got back to Dragonspire, it was very evident that time had passed. The place was bigger and the streets were lit up, but as they ran into people, nobody recognised them. Astra tried to get into the tower where they used to live - where their eggs were - but got turned away, with the guard saying impersonation was a crime.
Upon getting arrested from another event and reuniting with Ariawyn, they learned that it had been 187 years since that day that they left. That news in and of itself was devastating. To return to a colder Ariawyn, one that didn't seem to care for them, citing that they had abandoned her, and then to realise that the siblings that Astra had once been so close to were dead. Astra had never said goodbye to them. They hadn't had the chance.
With tears in their eyes but a voice that they tried to keep as even as possible, Astra asked Ariawyn to just grant them the mercy of one thing: to tell them if their egg had hatched. With a look of genuine sympathy and regret, Ariawyn looked to the bronze dragonborn that stood to the side of the room. Their dragon had hatched and grown up without them and they hadn't been there for them like they were supposed to be. They hadn't been able to teach them things and show them sights that they'd once promised to the egg on one of those nights where Astra was awake at hours no one else was.
Just a few days ago, everything had been okay.
"Was it worth it? Going to the Otherland?" Ariawyn had asked during that reunion.
"It was not worth it for me," was Astra's reply.

lute, dice & tavern :) (from @gullwrites )
Hello! I hope you're well! Thank you for sending this ask!
Lute: what OC is most or least like you?
The OC that is least like me, I'd say Jonathan from Risky Business. I think that's one of the reasons why it's so hard for me to write his character, but I enjoy the challenge! I can't pick which OC is more like me because I think none of them is, even if they all have little things I relate to!
Dice: how could your story have changed if one thing about the plot had gone differently?
Oh, this one is hard without spoiling anything! So I'll answer this one a bit differently. The first draft of A Spark of Magic didn't include Xavier. He is such an intrinsic part of the story (and so much happens because of him) that it's hard to imagine a version of it where he doesn't exist, but at one point, that was the case!
Tavern: do you have any cozy settings (or, if non-cozy, favorite settings) in your world?
I'd say the cosiest setting in A Spark of Magic is probably Victoria's flower shop. Victoria is Alice's aunt and the flower shop is where they have a lot of their magical lessons together (although no magical lesson is ever described in the book). It also has fairies flying around and tending to the many flowers around, which makes it ten times more cosy in my opinion!
Thank you so much once again for sending me these! I'm sorry it took so long to answer them!
I wish you a lovely day/night!

I'll be okay with Hazbin Hotel season 2 only having 8 episodes IF that season mainly focuses on the smaller stuff, like Charlie again trying to focus on redeeming sinners and the Vee's plans against the main characters.
As much as I want to see more big moments about things such as Lilith and what she has been doing all this time, getting hints about Eve and Roo, seeing Charlie interacting with angels like Jesus Christ and her angelic aunts/uncles, and seeing other HH characters like the von Eldritch family and Crymini (who again I think should be a Hellhound) I would like to see those stories be expanded and explored properly and not be rushed in a small season like Vivize and the writers had to do for Hazbin Hotel season 1.
I got a few ideas for what the 8 episodes can be about related to these things:
The season premiere has the hotel crew meeting their new resident Baxter. I can see the episode going over several other things such as the aftermath of the season 1 finale, like how stopping the Extermination has made the Pride ring a little crowded and sadly the characters learn there is going to be another Extermination happening in about 9 months. We could learn that Charlie has a bit of PTSD from the battle and is still guilty about Pentious' death. Maybe as a way to coup wiht this she has doubled her efforts to find a way to get sinners into Heaven.
I also could see such an episode having a plot point where people are checking into the hotel BUT most don't want to actually be better people, something Baxter does at first before slowly changing, so Charlie and co. now need to weed out those that want to be redeemed from those just using the hotel for various purposes. I could see the last idea being the premise of its own episode, as it would be a great way to add several characters to the hotel staff/group at once.
Exploring Vox and Alastor's past. This could explore a bit of Alastor's human life, but also what happened to Alastor 7 years ago. Great way to start dabbling into the Roo (or Lilith if you believe in that) connection theory.
Charlie trying to terminate Angel's contract with Valentino once and for all. I have brought up the question why Charlie hasn't made Angel leave his job as a requirement of him staying at the hotel and after seeing how badly Val treats Angel and with the Vees being the main antagonist of S2, this should happen. This would basically be like Helluva Boss's mid season 2 episode but I can see it being more dramatic and pleasing to see Val lose. this can also lead to Val getting more motivated to take down the hotel crew in the end.
Charlie goes to Lucifer for information on how Heaven and Hell decided who goes where after they die, in hopes of finding a clue or angle for her redemption program. This episode could also count as the eventual flashback episode showing how Lucifer and Lilith met, the whole apple thing, and the war between God and Lucifer's forces. Charlie could learn the shocking truth about how something really went down compared to the version she was told/led to believe.
A episode in Heaven where we see Sir Pentious getting use to Heaven while he and Emily deal with Lute. Like I brought up in my first season 2 episode idea post, they could decide to disobey Sera's orders and try to contact Charlie to show that redeeming sinners is possible.
Alastor cashes in the favor Charlie owes him by asking her to show her a legendary item or place, which leads to Charlie taking him to a special area. In no time shenanigans happen like something gets stolen or gets out of the room, causing the two to clean up the mess before something bad happens. Along with seeing Charlie and Alastor bond, especially if we get more of Al's life in such an episode, there would be a twist at the end where we find out this was part of Alastor's plan/mission as someone else was able to get in the special area get either another item, read something from a powerful book, or something else mysterious. Maybe Mimzy steals something in it and we get some development from her and she joins the hotel.
An episode about Niffty and her backstory. She didn't get any serious development in season 1, and such a premise was one of the scrapped ideas for the original HH season 1. I could see this being a good episode that is more entertaining then doing anything to advance the main story.
Speaking of which, another scrapped HH episode had Angel getting kidnapped and Husk and co. go searching for him, especially Husk. That would be a GREAT episode to have airing before the season finale.
A crazed Lute performs the Extermination attack of Hell earlier than scheduled. The events here could lead to the season finale, as I could see the Vee's attacking the weakened Charlie and the other characters after they have just dealt with the angelic forces.
The finale would be a battle between the hotel crew and the Vees, where maybe near the end Emily and other heavenly forces come to aid Charlie' side. I can see it ending with the Vees being punished by Charlie like maybe Val and Vox temporarily lose their Overlord titles (though Velvette getting out of it somehow) but Heaven as an apology for Lute's actions says that while the angels are currently debating on the topic, they will hear out Charlie's redemption plan again if she can redeem another sinner or two without aid from her father or and demons/angels before the end of a set deadline (AKA the season 3/4 finale). The season ends with everyone being happy until they are surprised by the appearance of Lilith at the hotel.
Another good thing about having season 2 focus o these things is that it will mean other, bigger stories will have to be told in later seasons and while currently mixed about Helluva Boss' planned 4 season run, I LOVE the idea of Hazbin Hotel having a lot of seasons.
Do you think these things should be the focus of Hazbin Hotel season 2? What could you see happening in it?

I was tagged by @wisp-of-chaos to do these OC deep dive questions! I answered for Dahlia, of course!! Thank you for tagging me!
Phobias and other fears: Dahlia’s biggest fear is losing those she cares about. Either by death or losing relationships she cares about.
Pet Peeves: People who are full of themselves/think they’re better than everyone else. Awful people/behavior in general, really.
3 things you can always find in their bedroom: Books, a lute and/or violin, and trinkets she either finds on her travels or are gifted to her (her favorite is a piece of polished blue sandstone)
First thing they notice in a person: Their mood, and if they’re hostile or not.
On a scale of 1-10, how high is their pain tolerance? I’d say around a 7-8.
Do they go into fight or flight mode when under pressure? Fight mode, usually. She’s not the type to run away from a confrontation.
Do they come from a big family/are they a family person? Her family consists of her parents, two siblings, grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousin. These family members are from her mother’s side; her father only had his parents and they have since passed away (Dahlia was very close to her father’s father). Despite the falling out she had with them, she loves her family and is working on repairing their relationship. (Alternatively, she finds a new family with Vlassk and Larik lol. And would, of course, adore them!)
What animal represents them best? She’s like a little kitten!
What is a smell they dislike? She hates the smell of most perfumes
Have they broken any bones? Yes, she has! Being an adventurer and getting into as many fights as her, you’re bound to break bones.
How would a stranger likely describe them? She’s known to most people as the hero of Baldur’s Gate, so that’s how strangers would describe her/see her as.
Are they a night owl or a morning bird? Dahlia is an early riser and loves mornings! She’s often up before sunrise!
What is a flavor they hate and a flavor they love? Dahlia isn’t the biggest fan of sweet foods. She prefers bitter or savory food. Her favorite food was seafood stew.
Do they have any hobbies? Besides music, Dahlia enjoys reading and drawing! She has a guilty pleasure for reading trash romance novels.
Boom, surprise birthday party! How do they react to surprises? Dahlia loves surprises and would be incredibly happy if someone threw a surprise party for her!
Do they like to wear jewelry? Back when she was a tiefling she had pierced ears. They were simple hoop earrings, nothing too flashy. Other than that, if she has jewelry on her it’s usually for enchantments they have.
Do they have messy handwriting? Yes. Her handwriting is atrocious!
What are the two emotions they feel the most? Love and happiness. What can I say, she’s a sweet and happy person and she loves those close to her!
Do they have a fabric? Anything soft and/or comfortable, honestly.
What kind of accent do they have? Basically, an English accent. My voice claim for her is Seras Victoria.

PLEASE tell us about cricket that name is so cool
IM SO SORRY I TOOK SO LONG TO REPLY TO THIS BUT OH MY GOODNESS I WOULD LOVE TO I ADORE MY BOY
fair warning, this is going to be very long, but i will absolutely talk about cricket
he's part of a world me and my friend have called the brambleverse! character dissertation contained below and sketch included just for u!
Tumblr media
cricket is a centaur bard from the plains of the world, currently living in a forest town called mistclaw where he's the mail delivery boy and plays music in the tavern section of the inn for town residents and visitors alike! his best friend in the whole world is a little felvine named thorn, her and her two brothers (bristle and thistle) are bramble's kits
he has a menagerie of instruments (lute and lyre, mainly, as well as a panflute, ocarina, and most likely more), he sometimes gives a bitchass wizard music lessons, and absolutely loves tea. he's got special pockets in his normal everyday outfit where he'll collect little pieces of nature (pretty flowers, herbs, occasionally perhaps a cool rock) to leave at any temples he might encounter in the woods left abandoned long ago
he absolutely loves exploring anywhere he has the opportunity to; the forest, along the tabby-tail river, nearby villages, and even havengleam, the huge capital city where the queen resides. he visits the library there to do his own reading (mostly about old music he can learn and either regale people with as is or convert to the current era/change in his own way) and to exchange books people in mistclaw want or need to return
thank you so so much for asking about him it made my day!! i love my little man so much.
cricket misses the nomadic life of his old centaur herd a lot, and is kind of torn between both lives that he loves, but his aunt silene (not blood related) sending him letters and visiting him every once in a while when the herd is close enough makes him feel better :]

I keep the book of faces for two reasons.
So my family can see pictures of Little Man.
And
Drama
My sister just lit into my great aunt over abortion and I'm trying not to cackle at work. Will this make the next time she's here tense? Probably. Is it worth it to see my sister finally get 20 years of rage off her chest? Abso-fucking-lutely.

folktale, woods, sunflower, bells, cupboard, eyebags, sweet :3
folktale: what stories remind you of your childhood?
There's a story my mother used to tell me about a mountain near her home town in Mexico, about a village frozen in time within the mountain. The story goes that a priest was about to be executed by the native tribe inhabiting the area, and right before he was killed, he cursed the village to forever reside within the mountain, never to leave and never to grow and prosper with the rest of society. It is said that right after the death of the priest, the village became trapped, and time froze, never to pass within the mountain. It is also said that once a year on Easter Sunday, a opening to the village appears, but that one has to be quick in entering and leaving, lest you become trapped like the rest of them. My mother also told me about another mountain that's allegedly cursed. Similar to the frozen village, there's a mountain that contains a village of skeletons, and that if one becomes trapped within that side of the mountain, you become apart of it with little hope of escaping. My aunt knew a woman who claims she was trapped there once, though that's a tale for another day.
On the lighter side of things, I grew up with stories like Swan Lake, various Disney stories (Snow White was and still is my absolute favorite), and others like this one story that is both vague yet very detailed in my mind. It sounds contradictory I know but it's so hard to describe. It's one of those things that you remember so clearly but you can't get the details right if that makes sense? Anyway, this is a book my mother used to read a lot to me when I was a child. It was my favorite book at the library, though I cannot remember the title, nor the plot very well but I believe it's about the son of two deities that died as a baby and came back to life. His parents, while happy their son was back, were worried he wasn't the same. He lost his powers, and his skin became a very dark blue. He had to live among the humans but because of his unusual appearance they didn't accept him. One day, the village he resided in was suffering a drought, so in order to prevent the villagers from dying, the boy discovers he has the power to control the rain, and so he saves his village by having it rain. This causes his powers to come back, and so he finally joins his parents in heaven as a god of rain. Again I think this is what it is about but I may have many, many details wrong. It's a case of "If I see the art I'll recognize it" since it had a very distinctive art style. Very middle eastern/south east asian looking. It's been 20 years since I've last read it but I can still picture the art very clearly
woods: where do you feel at peace?
A few places, namely my room, my church, libraries, and this one chapel at one of the hospitals I spent time in.
sunflower: what do you love and cherish?
Well this is hard to answer. Probably my brain and my sanity. I've always said my most prized possession is my brain, so I'll go with that!
bells: what sounds are your favorite or calm you the most?
In terms of my favorite, that's the sounds of the cello, the guitar, the lute, the call of bats and the mellotron. In terms of sounds that calm me, it's the chirping of birds, the sounds of bells, the sound of rain on my rooftop, and thunder storms in general. We might actually have rain tomorrow and I am excited!!! Hopefully we don't get any tornadoes this fall. We had quite a few last year
eyebags: what do you think makes a person attractive? Good sense of humor mostly. I like someone who can make me laugh til I piss myself or vice versa. In terms of physical aspects? That's a bit all over the place for me, though mostly because I don't really have a type. I do find redheads quite attractive but that's seems to be it
cupboard: a good childhood memory
Going horseback riding with my Godfather. He knew a lady that ran a horse ranch and would take my Godmother and I horseback riding. My favorite horse was a grey stallion named Moto and I remember getting feed him carrots once!
sweet: what candies or cakes are you fond of?
I love and I mean love cheesecake! Same with cookie cake and carrot cake. In terms of candies, I love Kitkats and Twix the most! Crunch bars are also a favorite of mine along with chocolate truffles!

Greysteel
SERIES · I  EPISODE · VIII
Host: Rick Scott Storyteller: Sebastian Odell
Tumblr media
I heard tell of a venturous knight, who kept a hidden country, both day and night; and he that over that  river should ride, strange adventures should abide.
As I heard told, the keeper of this realm is no man, and yet is the greatest knight in any land. They call him Sir Greysteel. They say no man of woman born can make him yield one man to one. His name will make any mortal tremble. For they say that more then a hundred knights have fallen to his blade...
The Greysteel ballad was performed before James V and James VI of Scotland, and there are numerous references to it in historical sources and literature. Our version of the tale of Greysteel is based upon a romance poem popular in 16th century Scotland. The story may have originated there, or earlier, in the north of England - the most recent research is said to favour a Scottish origin. The nickname of ‘Graysteil’ was given to various Scottish noblemen in the sixteenth, seventeenth and even the twentieth century. The story centres on the knightly friends Sir Eger and Sir Gryme. Sir Eger is defeated by the supernatural strength and might of Greysteel, the lord of a realm called the Forbidden Country, losing him the respect of the Lady Wynglaine, whom he is trying to win over. Sir Gryme rides in place of Sir Gryme, and overcomes him with the help of a magical sword bestowed by Eger’s aunt.  Greysteel’s initial invincibility, his description as a night with red hands and riding a red horse, suggests that he is intended to be an elfin knight. The motif of removing the supernatural Knight’s hand as proof of victory is repeated in other tales of Elfin knights.  Sir Eger and Sir Gryme may have been based upon the characters of Ywain and Gawaine from Arthurian romance legends.
In our telling, the 'Forbidden Country' becomes another name for the mysterious and a-temporal realms inhabited by the denizens of the fey, and identified with 'Avalon' and the 'Fortunate Isle'. However, some identify the site of Greysteel's land and fortress with Loch Ragnag in Scotland.
IN FOLK SONG
Elements of the Greysteel narrative are mirrored in the folk ballads Sir Cawline and Sir Colvin, where the protagonist must travel to an Elfin Hill, defeat an Elfin knight, and return with his hand in order to win the courtship of the King’s daughter.  Greysteel itself was performed as a romantic ballad, and was sung by two fiddlers to James IV at Lecropt in1498 who were 'paid 9 shillings for their performance’. The tune for Graysteil was preserved in transcriptions from the lute-music book of Robert Gordon of Straloch (1580-1661). You can hear the original medieval poem set to music on Spotify, but the delivery is not very clear.
