howdy, america! | buddy & monkey: double the trouble
my favourite fic to write. it did start out as a sick fic but then it turned into well, this.
pairings: leah williamson x reader!buddy x reader!monkey
summary: preseason has kicked off in america and it's chaos all round!
double the trouble masterlist
thank you @alotofpockets for the help with this one! there's also a special appearance from @lvnleah character Rory as well.
Tumblr media
“Nana, it’s too hot!” You whine, not a fan of this hot and sticky weather in the middle of August, “I don’ like it!”
“I know sweetheart,” Amanda sympathises with your fussiness that you’re not entirely used to being in another country as she adjusts the little sun hat on your head, “How about you try and drink some water to see if that helps at all, hm?” She suggests.
“Okay,” You shift restlessly in your seat as you take small sips from the bottle that you’re handed, “I don’ feel good,” You whimper, unhappily.
You are so excited to watch the game, you love it usually. However, today's a bit different with the fact of the unbearable heat in America is that you’re not at all used too, it makes you feel all icky inside.
You don’t like it, not one bit.
You're sitting in the stands with your Nana as you watch the football match unfold as Arsenal take on Washington Spirit in a preseason game at the Audi Field. The sun is blazing down and the stadium is packed with fans all eager to see their favourite players on the pitch.
Donned in your own Arsenal football shirt as you sit perched on your Nana’s lap, with a pale pink sun hat on the top of your head to keep the sun out of your eyes but it didn’t help the fact that you felt uncomfortable with the newfound heat you weren’t all that familiar with.
“I don’ like this heat,” You whine in discomfort, continuing to get fussier as the minutes draw on into the first half of the game, “I feel icky!”
“Oh sweetheart,” Amanda coos, doing her best to comfort you despite the fact you’re just getting more restless by the second as the game goes on, “I know it’s a lot to handle. Shall we see if we can find a spot in the shade?” She wonders.
“I wan’ Mummy,” You whine upset, looking out to where Leah is standing on the pitch with her usual stern expression she always has.
“I know you do, but Mummy is still on the pitch at the minute,” Amanda explains, taking control of the situation to bring you into a more shaded area with hope that you might feel a bit better, “It won’t be long until you can see her, sweetheart.”
“Too hot Nana, I feel icky,” You continue to whine in discomfort, thrashing around in the older women’s arms as you feel a pain in your tummy, “I’m gon’ be sick, Nana!” The tears brim your eyes, wanting nothing more than to be in Leah’s arms again.
“Oh no, sweetheart,” Amanda furrows her eyebrows as she prepares for the worst case situation, “Just a little longer sweetheart. You can see Mummy soon, I promise,” She tries to keep you calm for the rest of the first half of the game.
Tumblr media
Despite her best efforts to keep you hydrated and in the shade away from the sun too much, the heat only seems to make you feel worse.
Amanda is more than thankful for the whistle at the end of the first half to be able to signal to Leah, who’s just finishing up with a small interview.
“I wan’ see Mummy now,” You murmur with a pout on your face, not entirely understanding why you can’t have her straight away.
“Hang on sweetheart, let’s see if we get her attention,” Amanda lightly sways with you in her arms, “Leah!” She calls out, trying to catch the blonde before she dips off into the changing rooms for the half time talk with the rest of the team.
Leah looks over straightaway, concern immediately crossing her face when she takes in your flushed cheeks and drooping posture, “Hello my little bubba,” She jogs over to the sidelines and gently brushes a strand of hair away from your sweaty forehead, “What’s the matter?” She questions, her worry evident for you.
“I don’ feel good, Mummy!” You immediately reach out for the blonde as your bottom lip quivers.
The blonde doesn’t hesitate to scoop you up into her arms and hold you close to her despite the heat, “Oh it’s okay, my little bubba. I’ve got you.” She murmurs, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
“I feel icky, it’s too hot!” You whimper in her arms, snuggling into her embrace despite the blazing heat that there currently is right now, “I gon’ be sick,”
“I’ve got you. You’re gonna be okay, bubba,” Leah kisses the top of your head and holds you in her arms, “It’s very hot here, isn’t it? It’s no wonder why you feel sick,” She adds.
“She’s been fussy the whole of the first half. It might be a good idea to take her indoors for a bit out of the heat,” Amanda suggests the idea, “I know you might need to go back on, so I can take her?” She offers.
“No, it’s fine. I’m not going back on if my little girl is feeling sick,” Leah declares without a second thought, “I’ll go and take her inside myself for a little bit, I just need to let Jonas know Buddy’s not well,” With a quick word passed over to the coaches about being subbed off for the game, you’re heading inside in Leah’s arms to a more secluded area where there is air conditioning available.
“I don’ like this feeling,” You whimper tearfully, “I wan’ watch Monkey though!” You mention your favourite person, you always like to watch her play football and now you couldn’t while you’re inside.
“I know you don’t,” Leah coos, settling down on a chair as she cradles you in her arms while the air conditioning works wonders to cool you down, “We can go and watch Monkey if you want too as long as you don’t feel too sick still?”
“Wan’ watch her,” You murmur quietly.
“Okay, that’s fine. We can do that,” Leah replies in agreement before she stands up again from her seat and carries you in the direction of the changing rooms, “How about we take a little quick shower first to cool you down and then we’ll go back out, hm?” She suggests.
“There’s my favourite little Buddy!” You hear your favourite person speak up as you turn your head and give her a small smile, “What’s wrong?” She asks, concerned.
“Buddy’s not feeling that great at the minute with the heat,” Leah informs the girl, brushing another strand of your hair away from your sweaty face.
Monkey’s eyes widen in concern as she sees you nestled in Leah’s arms, your small frame seeming even smaller as you clung to her and normally, you would be bouncing with excitement to see her, eager enough to run into her arms but today was a completely different story.
The heat had drained all of your energy, leaving you feeling icky and weak.
“Oh no,” The girl frowns, stepping closer towards you as her playful demeanour is replaced with worry, “You’re not feeling well?” She asks.
“Too hot,” You murmur, your voice barely above a whisper as you still hold on tightly to Leah.
“I’m sorry to hear that,” Monkey pouts at your fragile state she’s not used to seeing you like, “I… I can stay with her if you need to go back on and play?” She offers, turning to look at Leah.
Leah shakes her head in disagreement, “It’s okay, I’ve been subbed off and I am going to sit with her,” She pauses, “Besides, little miss wants to watch you play when you get subbed on.”
“If you’re sure?” The younger girl offers, her usual energy subdued as she watches you with careful eyes, “I don’t have to play today. Buddy’s sick!”
“No, you’re going to play,” Leah replies against the idea, “Buddy will be fine, I’m going to be with her the whole time. Now, go head back out there and we’ll see you out there in a bit, okay?” She encourages Monkey to go back and join the rest of the team that are still sitting on the bench.
“Urgh fine,” The girl huffs reluctantly and shuffles out of the changing rooms in a sulk.
“What is she like, eh? Silly Monkey,” Leah laughs lightly and shakes her head about Monkey’s sudden mood change as she walks over to the shower and turns it on to a lukewarm temperature, before carefully placing you down in the shower as she lets the cool water spray over your body, “There we go, bubba. Does that feel better?”
Despite her teasing Monkey about her mood swing, her focus never once wavers from you as she takes care of you.
“Uh huh. Better, Mummy,” You nod as the water washes away the discomfort.
“Good, I’m glad,” Leah says with a warm smile, reaching for a towel to wrap around you as she turns off the shower, “Let’s get you changed into some fresh clothes and then we’ll go sit back down with everyone else.”
“Sit with Auntie Beth?” Your wonder, curiously.
“Yeah, I think Auntie Beth has been subbed off as well,” Leah confirms, her hands working quickly and efficiently to get you dried off and into a fresh set of clothes, “It’s a good job that I packed spare clothes, isn’t it?”
You scrunch your face up when you realise that you won’t be able to wear your own Arsenal shirt now, “I don’ get to wear my Arsenal top no more,” You mumble, a hint of sadness in your voice.
“It’s okay, I know that you’re still my little cheerleader, Bubba,” Leah kneels down to your level as she smiles reassuringly at you, “For now, it’s between one of these ones,” She says, holding up a couple of options for you to choose from.
You take a moment to decide before you finally point to one you like more, “Green one.”
“Green? Oh that’s a good choice, Buddy!” Leah praises, helping you into the t-shirt along with a pair of white shorts, and you were more than happy to go back out to find your aunties, “Ah, ah, not so fast. You still need some more sun cream on, little miss.”
“No, I don’ like it,” You grumble in protest and try to pull away from her, “Don’ like it, Mummy. it’s icky!”
Leah chuckles softly, her hands already applying the suncream despite your reluctance, “Oh I know, but it’s better than looking like a lobster now, isn’t it, hm?”
“Icky,” You mutter, making a face even if you know she’s right about that, but it still doesn’t mean you have to like it.
You definitely do not like sun cream.
“I know,” Leah agrees with a sympathetic smile as she finishes applying the sun cream to your squeamish body, “All done, see that wasn’t so bad, was it?”
“Gross,” You whine in response, shaking your head in disagreement.
“It’s not that bad,” Leah smiles in amusement, “Shall we go and see which of your aunties we can find now then?”
“Yeah, watch Monkey play!” You declare, your earlier excitement starting to return now that you’re feeling better.
“Yeah, she’ll be playing soon,” The blonde agrees with a fond smile, holding her hand out for you to take as you make your way back to the bench where you spot a familiar face sitting there, “Look who it is, it’s Auntie Beth!” She points out the blonde woman.
“Hi, Buddy!” Beth greets you with a small wave as she has Rory, sitting on her lap looking grumpy.
You’re not sure if it’s the heat or the fact that she’s missing Viv, but she’s definitely not having a good time in America.
You do miss Jordan while you’re out here though but you’ve been able to FaceTime her, Blu and Tater-Tot as well.
You’re excited to be able to see them when you’re home!
Tumblr media
“Hey, pipsqueak!” You hear the familiar Australian voice of Monkey’s best friend and partner in crime, Kyra, “Where’s your Arsenal top?” She jokes.
“Couldn’t wear it no more,” You pout in disappointment, your fingers touching the hem of your new t-shirt which isn’t as cool as your own Arsenal one.
“Aw, no. That’s a shame, but don’t worry you still look cool in that one!” Kyra notices your glum expression and gives you a sympathetic smile, “And hey, you’re wearing green now!” She winks, trying to lift your spirits.
“Yeah, you’re reppin’ leprechauns’ colours now!” Monkey jokes as she chips in on the conversation, although you're not entirely sure who she is talking about.
“Oi, I heard that,” Katie chimes in, rolling her eyes playfully.
Monkey just laughs, “Good, you were meant to,” She says before she ruffles your hair knowing it’ll wind you up, “Glad that you’re feeling better, Buddy!”
“Monkey, stop!” You do your best to perfect the glare that is almost identical to Leah’s.
The girl holds her hands up in mock surrender, “Oh, now I know you’re feeling better if you’re scowling at me like Mum does,” She jokes, sticking her tongue out at Leah for good measure.
“Oi, watch it you," Leah fires back with her own stern look, though there’s a hint of amusement in her eyes, “Go on, go start warming up, Menace.”
“God, you’re always so bossy,” Monkey remarks, rolling her eyes dramatically but not without a smirk.
“Go on, go, Menace,” Leah says, pointing toward the sidelines with an exasperated shake of her head.
Monkey huffs dramatically but gets up from her seat, dragging her feet a little for the show, “Fine, alright, I’m goin’ now,” She mutters, throwing one last playful glance over her shoulder as she finally makes her way to the pitch.
“That girl sometimes, eh?” Beth chuckles amusedly after she watched Monkey’s theatrical exit from the seats.
“Tell me about it,” Leah replies, adjusting the sun hat on your head to keep the sun out of your eyes, “She’s a pain in the butt sometimes, but we love her, don’t we, Buddy?”
“Monkey’s my favourite person,” You declare confidently, snuggling closer to Leah.
Beth dramatically gasps in outrage, clutching her chest as if she’s been mortally wounded, “What? I thought I was your favourite person!”
“No, that’s me,” Katie pipes up from the other side of Beth, her tone playful.
“No, you’re both silly!” You giggle at the pair of them, “Monkey’s my favourite!”
“I’m offended,” Beth continues to faux upset as she keeps one arm around Rory, who’s still grumpy because she misses Viv, “I’m your favourite, right, Roo?” She asks her daughter.
“Yeah,” Rory agrees quietly, fiddling with the hem of her own Arsenal football shirt that had Beth’s name and number on the back of it.
“Well at least my daughter agrees,” Beth jokes, trying to lighten the mood, though she sneaks a glance at Rory, who’s clearly not her usual cheerful self.
Leah notices the exchange and leans a bit closer to Rory, “You know, Roo, I know you’re missing your Mamma but she’s going to be so happy to see you when you’re back home. I bet she can’t wait to hear all about your time here.”
Rory looks up to Leah with a small smile at the mention of Viv bringing her a bit of comfort, “Really?”
“Oh, absolutely,” Leah nods, her voice warm and reassuring, “And just think of the big hug she’s going to give you when you see her again. She’s going to want to hear every single detail.”
Rory’s smile grows a little wider, and she finally relaxes a bit against Beth, “I miss her,” She admits softly to the blonde.
“I know, sweetheart,” Beth says gently, rubbing her daughter’s back, “I miss her too, but Auntie Le is right. Mamma is going to be so excited to hear about everything that you’ve been up to.”
Leah gives Rory a warm smile before she looks between the two of you, “I think I might have an idea to cheer you girls up after the game,” She pauses, “I think we should get some ice cream! What do you think?”
“Ice cream!” You squeal in excitement, you sure do love ice cream a whole lot.
Beth laughs at your enthusiasm and peers down to look at Rory, “Oh ice cream does sound good, doesn’t it, Roo?”
Rory’s face brightens a bit at the suggestion, “I like ice cream,” She tells Leah with a small smile.
“I know you do,” Leah says, giving Rory a soft smile, “And you know who else likes ice cream? That big kid over there,” She gestures onto the field where the subs board is being changed for Monkey to go on to the pitch along with Kyra, Steph and Caitlin.
“Monkey likes ice cream a lot!” You reply in agreement.
“Yeah she does, so we’ll have to make sure that Monkey doesn’t eat it all before we get there.” Leah jokes, playfully.
“No, Monkey can’t eat it all!” You whine in protest, knowing that Monkey also likes ice cream as well, “You have to stop her, Mummy!”
“Don’t worry we will,” Leah laughs in amusement, “Look, she’s about to go on the pitch now so you can watch her,” She points with her index finger to where Monkey is racing onto the pitch.
“Go, Monkey! Go!” You shout enthusiastically, waving your little hand in the air in support of your favourite person.
Monkey spins around and looks over in the direction where you are and quickly waves back before she gets her head focused on the game, running all over the pitch with a burst of energy that matches her whole personality.
“Mummy, you and Auntie Beth look silly!” You can’t help but giggle at the current way that Leah and Beth both have the brightly coloured yellow bibs on their sun to protect their heads from the sun.
You don’t have that problem though, since you’ve got your own pink sun hat to keep your head safe.
“It’s the only way to keep us from getting too hot,” Leah tells you as she laughs, “I’m not fortunate to have a sun hat like you do, bubba.” She explains.
“Yeah, where can I get one of those lovely pink hats?” Beth chips in, her tone playful as she nudges you slightly.
“Mine,” You giggle at the blonde’s playful antics.
Tumblr media
“I can’t see her,” You whine in protest, losing track of seeing your favourite person running with the ball.
“She’s over there, see?” Leah gestures to where Monkey’s running on the pitch with the ball under her feet, “Do you see her now, bubba?” She questions.
“I do! I do!” You squeal in excitement and clap your hands enthusiastically.
You find it hard to keep up with the rest of the match, the heat was relentless and despite Leah’s best efforts to still keep you cool and comfortable, it’s not long before you feel agitated again with it so your enthusiastic mood dips once again.
“It’s hot,” You whine pitfully, shifting around in discomfort.
“I know it is, bubba. It won’t be long until the match is over now,” Leah tries her best to reassure you, using a programme that she got her hands on to fan you and keep you cool again, “You don’t feel sick again, do you?”
“Nuh uh, just hot,” You grumble in disagreement with the heat.
You miss home and the terrible weather, it’s not always hot there like it is here.
There’s a quick water break and you notice as Monkey comes bounding off the pitch, her energy still high despite the intensity of the game, though she spots you squirming in Leah’s lap and immediately notices your discomfort.
“What’s wrong, Buddy?” She jogs over, her face flushed but she still has her usual bright smile, taking the towel that she was just handed over to Leah to give to you as she knows you’re more in need of it right now, “This might help a little bit.”
“Thanks, Monkey,” Leah thanks the girl appreciatively, adjusting the damp towel over your shoulders to help you cool down.
“Anything for my favourite little buddy,” Monkey shrugs her shoulders, taking small sips of her own water bottle as she gets her usual mischievous glint in her eye, not thinking twice before she sprays a little cool water over you from the bottle, “Gotcha, now gotta go. Buh-bye!” With that, she drops the bottle and rushes back onto the pitch to carry out the rest of the game.
“M’ wet now,” You pout up at Leah, who chuckles softly and shakes her head.
“Monkey is a menace, isn’t she?” Leah asks, her eyes twinkling with amusement, “Don’t worry, you can get her back when she least expects it.” She adds, playfully.
“Yeah, I’ll get her back!” You smile cheekily, snuggling against Leah as you attempt to watch the rest of the match play out with the opposing team.
Tumblr media
You’ve never been more grateful for a match to end as the heat is unbearable and once the final whistle blows, you peer up to look at Leah with hopeful eyes with the idea in mind to seek out Monkey on the pitch, and get your own back with the water bottle, “Can we go see Monkey now?” You ask.
“Come on, bubba,” Leah replies in agreement, taking a hold of your hand as she carefully helps you down the big steps that lead out to the pitch, “Do you see her?” She asks.
“Yes!” You spot her straight away as she has also spotted you and starts to race towards you, “I see her!” Letting go off Leah’s hand, you run towards her.
“Ah, my favourite little Buddy!” Monkey grins and lifts you up into her arms before she proceeds to spin you around, “Did you like the match?”
“Lots of goals scored!” You nod enthusiastically.
“Careful or she’ll be sick,” Leah states wearily as she finishes high fiving with the other team before she makes her way back to you both, “And then you’ll be the one to deal with it.”
“I know, I know. I’ve got her,” Monkey replies, holding you close to her as she walks back to join the post-match huddle with the team, standing on the other side of Leah.
“Proud of you out there, my girl,” Leah tells her, giving her a quick kiss on the forehead.
“What about me?” You ask, pouting at her.
Leah smiles and gently prieses you from Monkey’s arms, “I’m proud of you too, my little bubba,” She says, keeping you close as she listens to the post-match talk with Jonas and the rest of the team.
“Get down now please,” You ask politely, wanting to run about and kick the ball on the pitch now the match is over, you’re not so keen to listen to all the grown ups talk about stuff that you’re not sure about and maybe now Rory would play football with you?
“Don’t wander off,” Leah murmurs protectively, kneeling down to place you back on the floor, trying to pay attention to the post-match chat but more concerned about you wandering off somewhere unknown, though there’s a high chance of that happening when there’s a lot of staff here.
“Kick the ball with me, Roo!” You ask your cousin, who agrees with you and the two of you wander off to the stray football on the pitch, “Kick it, Roo!” You exclaim, pointing to the ball.
“I can’t believe you’re playing football without me,” Monkey gasps dramatically, making way to join your football game as you guess the chat must have finished now.
“I wanna join as well!” Kyra chimes in, joining the makeshift game with you, Monkey and Rory.
“Looks like your mini-me’s are putting you both to shame,” Caitlin jokes with Leah, seeing you put the ball in the back of the net before Monkey chucks you up on her shoulders to celebrate the goal.
“That doesn’t surprise me,” Leah laughs, shaking her head in amusement before making her way to greet her friend and follow England team mate, Esme Morgan.
You want to continue to kick the ball around, but your attention has been diverted to the white and red Gunner branded cowboy hat that Leah’s been handed, and so has Monkey’s as well.
“Howdyyyyy!” You hear Leah shout loudly from the other side of the pitch.
“Ooo, I want it!” Monkey bolts in the direction to where Leah is standing alongside Lia and Amanda on the other side of the barrier to block off the pitch.
“Wait for me, Monkey. I got little legs!” You whine and run after her, not wanting to be left out.
“Mine, I call dibs!” Monkey shouts aloud, trying and failing to reach for the hat on top of Leah’s head due to her short height, “No fair, gimme. I want it!”
“But it’s mine,” Leah retorts with a laugh, amused to watch Monkey try and get it from her, “Get your own hat, Menace.”
“No fair, I want it though– It would look better on me!” Monkey grumbles, doing her best to still and grab a hold of the hat, jumping and stretching her arms up.
“Fine,” Leah rolls her eyes with your favourite persons persistence and takes it off her own hat to plonk on her own, “There you go, Cowgirl.” She teases, patting her on the head.
“Thanks, Malfoy. You’re the best!” Monkey grins, happy with the hat for a few seconds before she shocks everyone around her and takes it off to gently place it on top of your own head, “Howdy, Cowgirl.”
“Cowboy hat!” You squeal in excitement.
“That was kind of you. I didn’t think you’d be willing to give it up so quickly,” Leah tells the younger girl, momentarily taken aback by Monkey’s sweet gesture to give it to you instead,
“It’ll help protect her from the sun,” Monkey tells her, trying to not make a big deal out of it, “Oh I’ll be back, I hear someone calling my name.” With that, she dips in the direction of a group of fans calling over to her, asking her to sign their shirts.
“Superstar on the pitch and fan favourite,” Lia jokes from where she stands beside Leah, speaking to other fans as well, watching out of the corner of her eye as one of the fans gave Monkey a white plush jellycat bunny.
“More like Menace,” Leah replies in amusement, taking the time to chat to Amanda in the stands as she lifts you into her arms so you can see her as well.
“Are you feeling better now, sweetheart?” Amanda questions in concern, not liking to see you so unsettled in any situation.
“Better now,” You nod in agreement, snuggling up closer to Leah while keeping the red and white cowboy hat on your head.
“It’s just a very hot day isn’t it,” Leah coos, doing her best to protect you from the harsh sun, “We’re going to get ice cream after this to help with the heat, aren’t we?”
“Ice cream!” You reply enthusiastically.
“Whoa, ice cream? That sounds great,” Amanda exclaims with a hint of playfulness in your voice, “You had better make sure that Monkey doesn’t eat it all.” She jokes.
“I heard my name,” Monkey pops up with the newfound white rabbit clutched in her hand, “Here you go, Buddy. This is yours,” She hands the rabbit to you.
“Thank ‘ou!” You take a hold of the fluffy rabbit and snuggle up closely to it.
“Hang on a second,” Leah says, shifting you to one arm while she uses her other hand to rest on the back of Monkey’s forehead, playfully pretending to check her temperature.
“What’re you doin’?” Monkey asks, confused, trying to bat Leah’s hand away from her face.
“Checking if you’re not coming down with something,” Leah responds, laughing slightly as she pulls her hand away, “Since when do you willingly give Jellycats away?”
“I’m just being nice!” Monkey insists, shrugging her shoulders, “It’s not a big deal, Buddy’s not having a great day and I thought it would cheer her up.”
“That’s really sweet of you to do something like that, Monkey,” Amanda states, kindly.
“It was,” Lia chimes in agreement.
Although Leah isn’t all that convinced, “What’re you after? If this is your way of trying to get out of being grounded after that stunt you pulled at home, think again,” She states, reminding the girl of what happened prior to your trip to America.
“It’s not I swear, I just… I thought it would cheer her up,” Monkey admits, looking sheepishly as she doesn’t know if anyone else is aware of what happened with the TV back home but she’s not about to tell anyone about it, regardless.
Leah eyes her for a moment longer before her expression softens, “Alright, I believe you. Now, how about we go and get that ice cream, huh?” She wonders.
Your own eyes light up at the mention of ice cream and you nod enthusiastically, “Ice cream!” You exclaim, clutching a hold of your new bunny, “Auntie Beth and Roo coming as well?”
“Course we are,” Beth pipes up from where she walks over to you all from the other side of the pitch with Rory in tow, “We wouldn’t miss out on the chance to get ice cream now, would we?”
“Ice cream!” Rory repeats enthusiastically, bouncing up and down on her feet, eager for the sweet treat.
Leah laughs at the enthusiasm, “Alright, ice cream it is. Before we go, we need to get changed out of our kits first,” She gestures between herself, Beth and Monkey, “We don’t want to be sitting in these sweaty clothes while we eat.”
Monkey groans playfully, clearly impatient, “Can’t we just go as we are? I want ice cream now!” She whines, dragging out the last word in complaint.
Leah chuckles at the younger girl’s impatience, shaking her head, “Come on Menace, it won’t take that long,” She reassures her, taking her by the arm and leading her back toward the changing rooms, with Beth and Rory following close behind.
You stay outside with Lia and Amanda, who keeps you entertained while you wait and it doesn’t take long before Leah, Beth, Monkey and Rory reemerge, now dressed in cooler, more comfortable outfits.
“Now we get ice cream?” You ask eagerly, practically bouncing on your toes.
“Yes, bubba, now we’ll go and get ice cream,” Leah confirms with a smile, ruffling your hair gently.
With everyone ready, the group heads off to find the nearest ice cream stand. You race ahead with Rory and Monkey, all of your excitement infectious as the adults follow behind, chatting amongst themselves.
“Ooo, I want mint chocolate chip!” Monkey calls out eagerly, practically bouncing with anticipation.
“Strawberry,” Rory chimes in, her eyes already scanning the ice cream options as you approach the stand.
Leah smiles down at you as you look at the bright menu in front of you, “How about you, bubba?” She asks, her voice gentle as she watches you contemplate the choices.
You glance at the colourful display of flavours, each one more tempting than the last, “Ummm… chocolate,” You start, then spot the bubblegum and your eyes light up, “Nuh uh, wait– I wan’ bubblegum, Mummy!”
The blonde laughs at your excitement, “Bubblegum it is then, bubba,” She says, giving your hand a gentle squeeze before checking what everyone else wanted in the small group and placing the order.
“Mm, this ice cream is great,” Lia says, savouring the treat.
Amanda nods in agreement with the Swiss woman, “Are you enjoying that, sweetheart?” She chuckles as she watches you dive into your ice cream with enthusiasm and end up getting it all around your face.
“Messy bubba,” Leah teases, wiping away some of the ice cream with a napkin as her tone is filled with affection.
“This has gotta be the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted!” Monkey exclaims, eyes wide with satisfaction.
Beth laughs and nudges her slightly, “I swear you say that every time you have ice cream,” She teases as she peers down at Rory, “How is it, Roo?”
“So good, Mummy!” Rory replies with a big smile, “I like it!”
“That’s cos’ it’s the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted!” Monkey states as a matter of fact, “Can’t prove me wrong on that one!”
“Alright, menace. It is good ice cream,” Leah rolls her eyes and laughs in agreement with your favourite person, taking another bite of her own treat as she enjoys the moment with everyone around her.
It was only the beginning of preseason in America, but she is determined to make it fun for you.

This is a little bit of a weird long question lol
I'm more asking your opinion about it haha
I'm trying to think on it - is Idia an Otaku because that's the setting the game is for (Japanese audience) and those are the signifiers that a Japanese audience would recognize as "nerd", or is he just an Otaku in general and would still be a "Weeb/Anime nerd" if the original audience was American/otherwise western.
Like - what I mean is in American pop culture, the "Weeb/Anime fan" is kind of a subset of nerd. Like none of the characters from "the big bang theory" (to my knowledge) are "weebs", they aren't our most generic image of a nerd. If a character/person is a "Weeb" it usually means they have a specific interest in Japanese media, and this doesn't necessarily correlate to other "nerdy" things.
Because in America/Western settings, Japanese fandom culture is foreign (thus me using Weeb instead of Otaku though plenty of people call themselves Otaku rather than weeb), so the implications of Idia being a Weeb is somewhat different - he's no longer a "generic nerdy character", but something a tad more specific.
So like - how there's beansfest or the use of honorifics or how the unique magic works with pronunciation - that usage of Japanese culture and language to express what Yana is trying to do, but it isn't necessarily meant to be Japanese in universe, because NRC is distinctly not set in Japan or even the Twst equivalent of Japan
Basically to sum up my rambly question - do you think Idia is supposed to be a "Nerd" in general or is he supposed to be an "Otaku"?
Tldr, would Idia be buying "comic books" in the EN localization or would it still be "Manga"
How exactly is our dear Idia the Nerdy foil to Hercules's Jock lmao
Hello hello!! Thank you for this question! ^^
Is there a word that can encompass both, in English? 👀
I think this connects to how the word "otaku" in Japanese seems to be different from the word "otaku" as it has been adopted by English, so this might be confusing 💦 But I will do my best!
I found an excerpt from a book called "Otaku Marketing" that provides an explanation of "otaku"'s original meaning, summarized here:
The basic definition of an 'otaku' is someone with a particular obsession who devotes an extreme amount of time and money to that interest and possesses deep knowledge and imagination regarding it. The term can be viewed negatively, describing a person who is immersed in subcultures that are difficult for the general public to understand, and who lacks communication skills. These days it has become more generally accepted with a meaning similar to "enthusiast" or "fan", and its usage has diversified, including terms like "health otaku" that contrast with the negative connotation, but the original image of otaku as being obsessively dedicated, introverted, and intense remains. Examples of otaku include military enthusiasts, railway enthusiasts, Johnny's Entertainment enthusiasts, Gundam enthusiasts, Hanshin Tiger enthusiasts, etc.
This is very much Idia ^^ There are many traits associated with otaku that we see in him, from his stutter to how quickly he speaks when excited, self depreciation combined with contradictory pride, net slang--even the manner in which he laughs and the personal pronoun that he uses.
In English it seems that, as you say, the Japanese-language concept of "otaku" has been separated into "nerd" and "weeb."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Idia is interested in things like puzzles, board games, horror movies with practical effects and Halloween, which might not be the first thing that comes to mind when an English-speaker hears the word "otaku" and may push him more into the "nerd" category.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Idia mentions reading manga and watching anime, but is this just because the game is being developed in the same country that produces those things?
Is this a case of Idia not being fully localized, and an American-developed Twst would have made him interested in American comic books and cartoons to suit its home audience, as you say?
I agree that NRC does not seem to be set in Japan or even a Twst-Japan-equivalent, but that might be exactly the point: Idia is interested in media from another country, and that is where things get interesting!
It seems that a Twst-Japan equivalent exists, and Idia is a big fan of their pop culture 👀
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sam mentions branches of his Mystery shop that exist in the "East," introducing things from real-world-Japan culture in the New Years events.
How canonical the New Year's events are meant to be is a little vague, especially because everyone (except Azul, Jade, Floyd and Scarabia) go home for New Year's in the main story--a point that is integral to the plot of Book 4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But even if New Years is meant to be a fun little spin-off with no real connection to the culture of the actual universe, we also have a vignette where Idia explains what ninja are to Silver, saying that "they live in a far eastern country," and mentioning things like "shuriken," "fireball jutsu" and "samurai."
If there is another word in English that encompasses both "weeb" and "nerd" together, then I think that might be it! If it must be one or the other...I am not sure!
I have seen EN players who missed the Harveston event insisting that Idia doesn't actually like anime, just movies and video games, so it seems to be a divisive subject on EN.
Idia's interest in the pop culture from this unnamed country in the East is definitely not his defining personality trait, being only one of the many facets of who he is ^^
Tumblr media
How to express this in English seems more complex than one may think!
Is it inaccurate to describe Idia as a "weeb" because of the depth of his interest in locally-produced board games and movies that have nothing to do with Twst-Japan-equivalent-media? If he is referred to as a "nerd," will there be friction because of lines like, "an anime can be so good it's literally life-changing"? Are the two groups mutually exclusive in English?
I am not sure I have an answer :> Would be most grateful for any opinions and ideas!

instead of you [part three] || l.mh
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: [best friend’s brother] lee minho x college!reader ft. han jisung
summary: you didn’t expect to spend your summer pretending to be your best friend’s girlfriend- then again, you didn’t expect to fall for your best friend’s brother, either.
warnings: swearing, mentions of sex (18+ mdni), menstruation
word count: 4.1k
a/n: revamped my tom holland series from my main blog ( @wazzupmrstark ) to try and motivate myself to finish it!!
series masterlist | early access to the next chapter on ko-fi
“How do I look?” you asked the boys as you pulled your hair from the collar of your shirt and settled back into your seat.
“You looked fine before,” Jisung mumbled to himself before catching your glare. “But you look lovely, as always, baby.”
You cocked your head to the side and grinned. “Thanks, Ji.”
“For what it’s worth, I think you look great,” Minho chimed in.
For someone who had seemed wholly uninterested in your existence fifteen minutes ago, Minho was being pretty friendly as of now. Maybe he liked fucking with Jisung just as much as you did.
“Thank you, Minho,” you said, not missing the smirk that tugged at the corner of his mouth. You ignored it. “Babe,” when Jisung didn’t react you reached for his shoulder to get his attention. “How much further?”
“Oh, uh…” he leaned over the console to glance at Minho’s GPS. “Like fifteen minutes, why? Everything okay?” He knit his eyebrows together in concern and gave you a once over.
“Yeah, everything’s fine- I was just curious.”
“Am I that bad of a driver?” Minho joked as he jerked the car around a turn at full speed, sending his brother flying into the passenger’s side door.
“I don’t know, maybe let your four failed driver’s tests speak for themselves,” Minho scoffed and crossed his arms.
“Four?” you gasped.
“One of those was in America!” Minho protested defensively.
“That still means you failed three of them here,” you pointed out.
“It wasn’t my fault!”
You narrowed your eyes. “Oh, did the curb jump out at you?”
“That’s exactly what happened,” he insisted, “and something about automatic failure for hitting cones?”
“Jesus, should you even have a license?”
“One more speeding ticket and he won’t.”
“Jisung, do you want to walk the rest of the way home?” Your best friend seemed to consider it, but rolled his eyes and leaned back in his seat instead. “That’s what I thought.”
Even though Minho wasn’t the best driver, the car handled on the road pretty well. You wondered to yourself how much the Audi must’ve cost. You knew they were expensive to begin with, but from what you could tell this was a recent model and had at least a couple upgrades from standard. It was a stark contrast from Jisung’s 2009 Prius back at school and made you curious as to what his brother did for a living. Your mind automatically went to dealing. Jisung never talked about his older brother… maybe that was why? But as hard as you tried you couldn’t imagine the clean-cut wonder bread boy in the driver’s seat traversing the underground world of drugs, even with that smug smirk of his. No, that couldn’t be it. But what?
Before you could explore any other options Minho was pulling onto a residential street and actually slowing for the first time since getting in the car. He braked in front of a gated split-level and turned to his brother.
“I have to take care of something before dinner, but I’ll be back in a few minutes,” he explained and unlocked the doors.
Take care of something? Had you been right about-
“What do you have to do?” Jisung asked, verbalizing your inner monologue.
“Feed the cats,” Minho replied simply.
You perked up. “You have cats?”
Minho gave you a weird look like somehow you should have already known that, but nodded anyway. “They’re technically family cats, but they stay at our place. I have to feed them her before going over to mom and dad’s, but tell them I’ll be there soon.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Jisung mumbled as he got out of the car and signaled for you to do the same. “Leave your car unlocked so we can get our bags out later, yeah?”
“Fine, but if my car gets stolen, it’s on you.”
“No one is going to break into your car stop being so dramatic!”
Minho said something else before driving away, but you were jolted by the feeling of a hand on the small of your back and missed it.
“Sorry,” Jisung said low enough for only you to hear, “I didn’t mean to startle you.”
“It’s okay,” you whispered back. “I’m just a little jittery.”
He gave a sort of half-chuckle and took your hand in his, nodding toward the house. “C’mon, they’re waiting.”
You made your way through the front gate and up the stone steps to the front door. The pathway was lined with planted flowers and little ceramic tiles and pots that looked like they had been made by a child. You paused when you saw a mold of baby hand-prints with Jisung + Felix scrawled underneath.
“Did you guys make this?” you asked.
Jisung leaned in closer to see what you were looking at and grinned. “Oh my god yeah, like ages ago. Mum made all of us do them when we turned one.”
“Where’s Minho’s?”
“In pieces in the attic.”
“What happened to it?”
“Baseball accident,” he explained with a shrug. “My mom said she’d glue it back together, but it never happened. Now it’s just the two best Hans in the garden.”
You straightened back up and gave him a shove. “Stop it.”
“Hey, am I wrong?”
“I don’t know, I only just met your older brother,” you reminded him. “So I guess the jury’s still out on that one.”
“You could just take my word for it,” Jisung offered.
“Nice try, Han.”
Jisung held his hand back out for you to take and tugged you the rest of the way to the door, not letting you stop to look at any more old art projects despite your protests. Once you were on the front stoop he took a deep breath and glanced over to you. His hand was familiar, but sweaty in yours.
“Ready?”
“What would you do if I said no?” you asked, a smirk playing at your lips. “Just walked down the steps and got a cab back to the airport?”
He visibly relaxed and shook his head at you. “I’m afraid it’s a bit too late for that,” he said and rung the bell without further hesitation.
“Jisung!”
“Y/n!”
You pretended to panic. “If I run away now, they’ll see me stranding their heartbroken son on his own front doorstep! That would not make a good first impression.”
“Pity. I guess you’d better stick around then.”
“If I have to.”
Just then, the door swung open and you were being ushered inside by several people at once. While Jisung exchanged hellos with his family you took a head count of everyone inside, making mental notes of who was who, finally putting faces to the names you’d studied on the plane hours earlier.
“This is my girlfriend, y/n,” Jisung said and stepped aside to introduce you. This time you didn’t cringe when he called you his girlfriend.
You braced yourself for all of the attention, feeling your heart plunge into your stomach when all eyes turned to you. Felix went in for a hug while his parents shook your hand politely.
“It’s so nice to finally meet you, y/n!” his mother, Nikki, exclaimed, beaming. “I wish we could say we’ve heard so much about you, but,” she stared pointedly at her son, “it’s like pulling teeth to get Jisung to tell us anything about his life.”
“Trust me, I’m well aware,” you said and chuckled. “I didn’t even know how many brothers he had until like a few months ago, and we’ve been dating for how long?”
“Well, either way, we’re thrilled to get to know you in person!”
“Likewise,” you agreed. “Thank you so much for letting me tag along with you guys!”
“Of course,” his father piped up, “we’re happy to have you.”
“You two must be exhausted after that flight. We won’t keep you long. Dinner’s on the table in the dining room, but where’s your brother?” Nikki turned to Sam expectantly.
“He went to feed the cats, but he said he’d be right over.”
Jisung's dad checked his watch and sighed. “Does he expect us to wait for him?”
Jisung shrugged. “I dunno.”
Felix opened his mouth to interject, but the sound of the front door opening and closing behind you stopped the conversation in its tracks. You watched as Minho leaned an arm against the door frame and kicked off his shoes, noticing the way his t-shirt rode up to show his stomach and the elastic of his Calvin Kleins.
“Were your ears burning?” Nikki asked, snapping you out of your staring, as she went to hug Minho.
“Should they have been?”
“We were just talking about your excellent punctuality,” his dad remarked.
Minho smirked. “Yeah, anything else? What about my charm? Good looks?”
“Just your enormous ego,” Jisung said through a cough.
“Play nice, boys,” Nikki warned, pointing a finger at all three of her sons.
“I didn’t even say anything!” Felix protested.
“You were thinking it.”
Once around the dinner table you finally began to relax, feeling more comfortable with Jisung’s family as time passed. As the tension eased from your body, the fatigue began to set in. Your muscles were starting to feel stiff and your social energy was fading fast. You let them do most of the talking, only speaking up when questions were directed at you. Answers from your flashcards rolled off your tongue without a second thought. You knew all of the dates and facts like the back of your hand and Jisung was doing surprisingly well too.
“You know,” Felix started in the middle of Jisung recounting one of your dates, “I always knew you two would get together.”
You and Jisung both whipped your heads towards him simultaneously.
“You did?”
“Yeah, it was obvious you liked each other,” he continued, “neither of you were very good at hiding it so it was only a matter of time.” This was news to you. You had thought Felix was one of the few people who had seen what your relationship with Jisung really was, yet here he was saying what everyone else already thought. “I mean, you two couldn’t keep your hands off of each other-”
Your eyes went wide at the same time Jisung choked on his drink in shock. You heard Minho chuckle under his breath from across the table.
“Okay, you can spare us the details, Lix,” their dad said.
“He didn’t mean it like that,” Jisung clarified, glaring at his twin. “We’ve just always been close is all.”
“It’s so nice that you were such good friends before you started dating,” Nikki added. “It removes some of that new relationship awkwardness since you already know each other so well.”
Jisung cleared his throat. “Well as nice as it’s been talking about my dating life, I think y/n and I are going to head back over to the flat. We’re both pretty tired.”
“Wait,” you whispered at him, “shouldn’t we help with the dishes?”
“Oh you don’t need to do that, you’re our guest!” Nikki insisted.
“Are you sure? You all made us this lovely meal, it would be the least we could do-”
“No, no, we’ll have Minho and Felix help us. You two go and get some rest. You’ve had a long day and we have another big day tomorrow.”
“Okay, well thank you so much again for dinner.”
“Thanks, mom, it was really good,” Jisung said and gave his mother a hug before wrapping an arm around your shoulders and waving goodbye to the rest of his family members.
-
A wave of relief washed over you as soon as you stepped outside and it took all of your strength not to jump and cheer in celebration.
“Dude, that was so good!” Jisung hissed to you as you hurried down the garden path together.
“I know!” you squeezed his hand in excitement. “We crushed it.”
“We totally did. Thanks to you.”
“No, thanks to you,” you argued back.
“It was a team effort,” he decided.
Your bags were still in the trunk of Minho’s car right where you’d left them a couple of hours earlier and Jisung insisted on carrying them both up the stairs to his room.
“I’m supposed to be your boyfriend!”
“Okay and? What fucking year is this, 1956?”
He gave you a look. “Just let me carry your fucking bag up to our room. I’m trying to be chivalrous, okay?”
“Fine, knock yourself out, Prince Charming.”
“Thank you.”
You rolled your eyes and slammed the trunk closed behind him after grabbing the backpacks. You followed Jisung up the steps to the flat and watched him punch in a code that unlocked the front door.
Inside, two boys you didn’t recognize sat on the couch playing something on their xbox. They looked up when they heard the click of the lock and nodded in hello, not offering any other introduction.
“Hey guys,” Jisung said as if they were an afterthought and took the stairs two at a time. He led you down a hallway to a room tucked away in the corner of the house. “This is my room.”
It was small, but full of pieces of furniture, none of which looked like they belonged to Jisung. A queen-sized bed sat pushed up against the back wall of the room underneath the slanted ceiling fitted with a thick white comforter and matching pillows. A full length ornate mirror leaned against the same wall and was adjacent to a dresser and another chest of drawers. Why a room that seemed to be devoid of all personal articles needed so much storage you weren’t sure, but none of the furniture matched which only added to the mystery.
“They use it for storage when I’m gone,” he explained and dropped the suitcases on top of the chest.
“What?”
“My roommates. They put all the shit they don’t need in my room since I don’t technically live here anymore.”
“That’s kind of shitty.”
He shrugged. “I mean, I never had to pay rent for living here, and I still have a place to stay when I do come to visit, so this is a small price to pay.”
“I guess that’s fair.” You walked over to the bed and tossed the backpacks on top of it. “So those guys downstairs…”
“Are my roommates, minus Minho and Felix of course.”
“Yeah, the tall one-”
“Hyunjin?”
“Is he single?”
Jisung rolled his eyes. “Yes, but you aren’t.”
“Fuck, right.”
“Rule number eleven, y/n.”
“He’s not your brother!”
“He might as well be!” he argued.
You groaned and unzipped your suitcase, digging through it to find your pajamas. You landed on a pair of boxers you had stolen from a guy your sophomore year and a white tank top. Jisung was already taking off his shirt at that point so you just turned around and changed right there. No big deal. It wasn’t like you hadn’t done this in the back of his brother’s car a few hours ago, and you changed in front of each other all the time. So then, why did it feel different now?
When you were finished getting dressed you shoved your airport clothes back into your suitcase and traded them for your toothbrush and toothpaste.
“Where are you going?” Jisung asked.
“To brush my teeth before I forget.”
“Don’t get lost.”
You brushed the joke off, but quickly realized that you actually had no idea where you were going. Each door in the hallway looked exactly the same and they were all completely shut so you couldn’t peek inside to see if the room it was attached to was a bathroom.
Eventually, you resolved to just open the door directly across the hall. There seemed to be light coming from underneath it. That was a promising sign, right? You braced yourself, turned the knob on the door, and pushed it open. You knew immediately that you had not found the bathroom.
Minho was lying propped up on his bed in nothing other than a pair of grey sweatpants with a manilla folder lying on his chest. He looked up at you standing in his doorway and quirked an eyebrow.
“Can I help you?”
“Uhhhh…” you trailed off, cheeks burning as you stared at the boy laying on his bed.
Minho tilted his head to the side, his cocky expectant expression falling into one of concern. “Y/n? Are you okay?”
“Sorry, it’s just… this isn’t the bathroom…”
He looked around the room like he was double-checking it wasn’t, making you roll your eyes. “No, it’s not. Do you need help finding it?” He moved like he was going to get up from the bed and you put a hand out to stop him.
“No, no it’s okay. I’ll find it eventually,” you assured him.
“You sure? There are a lot of doors in that hallway. Wouldn’t want you accidentally walking in on another poor, unsuspecting boy in their bedroom.”
You narrowed your eyes, but let the comment slide. You didn’t know him like that, and as badly as you wanted to quip back, you were still trying to make a decent impression on Jisung’s family. “About that, how many people live here?”
Minho chuckled. “There are four of us. Five when Jisung is home from school.”
“Jesus. That sounds like-“
“Fun?”
“A nightmare.”
“Depends on how you look at it,” he said and shrugged. “I’m living with my best friends, but you’re staying with four random dudes like you’re on an episode of New Girl.”
“I know Felix. He’s not a random dude,” you pointed out.
“Details.” Minho glanced down at your boxer shorts, then back up at you. You realized he had probably clocked them as his brother’s. He cleared his throat. “As nice as it is chatting here with you, my brother is probably wondering where his girlfriend wandered off to.”
You remembered the toothbrush in your hand at that moment and clutched it to your chest. “Right. Sorry.” You stood unmoving in his doorway and rocked back on your heels awkwardly, knowing you had to ask the question you were too stubborn to ask.
“Was there something else?” Minho asked.
“Um, which way is the bathroom?”
He grinned. “Turn left, it’s the door right next to mine.”
Fuck. So close.
You squeezed your eyes shut and cursed to yourself. “Thanks.”
“No problem.”
You turned to leave but stopped short when he spoke up from behind you again. “Goodnight, y/n,”
“Goodnight, Minho.”
-
In the bathroom, you brushed your teeth as fast as humanly possible, admittedly not for the dentist-recommended full two minutes, and then splashed some cold water on your face to try and tone down your flushed embarrassment.
“You okay?” Jisung asked when you finally found your way back to his room. “You were gone for a while.”
“Yeah, I just, uh…”
“You actually got lost didn’t you.” It wasn’t a question.
“Maybe.”
Jisung just shook his head then grabbed his own toothbrush. “I’ll be right back.”
The door clicked softly shut behind him and you took that as your cue to fall back onto the bed and take up as much room as possible. You sprawled out in the starfish position, stretching your stiff muscles. You sighed and let your eyelids flutter shut, thinking you would just rest them for a bit before Jisung came back. It felt like no time had passed when you woke back up to him nudging your limp body with his knee.
“Roll over,” he grunted.
“Nooo,” you groaned. “Can’t. Move.”
“Y/n, I swear to God-“
“I didn’t know you believed in God.”
“Jesus fucking Christ you’re so annoying,” he huffed as he shoved you over so he could get in the bed.
“If you keep taking the Lord’s name in vain I’ll have no choice but to go to the Priest.”
“In that case, wait until he hears about all of the premarital eye contact you’ve been having.”
“Touché.”
You sat up and shimmied under the covers next to him. The bed was small enough that your shoulders brushed against each other as you lay there on your backs underneath the thin sheets. His skin was warm to the touch and you had the sudden urge to curl up next to him and fall asleep with your body pressed against his. You resisted it. It struck you as odd, the longing feeling that sat uncomfortably in your chest. You tried your best to ignore it.
“For the record I’m agnostic,” Jisung said.
“Of course you are,” you scoffed.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It’s just, it seems like the easy choice. Ya know, like ‘maybe there’s something out there that’s bigger than us, but also maybe not’ so you get to be right either way? That’s bullshit, you gotta pick one.”
“To me, it seems kind of… hubristic for us as humans to be the ones to decide which gods to believe in. Or to decide if deities even exist for that matter.”
You hummed, too tired to truly process any of what he had just said. “Never thought about it that way. That semester of Philosophy 101 really did a number on you, didn’t it? ”
“Dr. Levi might be an asshole, but he made a lot of interesting points.”
“Who knew a gen-ed would be the thing to broaden your horizons.”
“Shut the fuck up,” he huffed, shoving your shoulder lightly, “and don’t tell my parents because I still go to church with them on Sundays.”
“Oh, don’t worry. Your dirty philosophical secret is safe with me.”
Even in the dark you could tell Jisung was rolling his eyes. “Well what about you? What do you believe in?”
“Mm, I’d rather not talk about it.”
“I knew it. You’re a scientologist, aren’t you?”
“I’m Tom Cruise’s closest confidante,” you whispered back.
“When you see him next can you ask him about Mission Impossible Nineteen or whatever the fuck number they’re on?”
“I’ll be sure to do that,” you mumbled through a yawn.
Jisung reciprocated your yawn and shifted onto his side. “Tell him I want Rebecca Ferguson’s number.”
“I’ll relay the message, but I’m telling you now she’s out of your league.”
“Ouch.”
“She’s also like sixteen years older than you.”
“You’re just jealous.”
“Maybe I am,” you agreed. “I do want to be a MILF someday.”
“That’s… not what I meant.”
-
In the morning you were able to find your way to the bathroom to brush your teeth and wash your face without any accidental detours only to realize you’d started your period.
“Fuck.”
You couldn’t catch a damn break.
“Hey, you hungry?” Jisung asked once you’d returned back to his room.
“I could eat,” you said and nodded, “but, uh, do you guys have any pads… or tampons?”
“Shit, I don’t think so. My mom always tells us we should keep them around for friends or girls we have over, but none of us ever remember to pick them up when we go out to the shops.”
“Because you never have girls over?”
“You’re here aren’t you?”
“Not voluntarily.”
Jisung pursed his lips. “Well is it, uh, a pressing matter?”
“Um, it can wait until after breakfast. I made do with some toilet paper for now.”
He seemed jostled by that comment but didn’t press any further. “O-okay, we usually have cereal and stuff in the cupboards downstairs, but I can make you an omelet or some French toast if you’d like.” You mulled over the options in your mind and smiled to yourself as you slipped on a pair of socks. “What?”
“It’s nice having a fake-boyfriend that can cook.”
“It’s nice to have someone to cook for,” he added with a hint of a smile. “My roommates back at school are never home to try my cooking, and they don’t give a fuck about food anyway. They could eat ramen for every meal of the day for a month and not think twice about it.”
“I mean, I gotta give them some credit. Ramen is the breakfast of champions,”
“The breakfast?” Jisung gagged. “I feel like I don’t even know you.”
“Yeah, pop one of those bad boys in the microwave before your lecture in the morning, eat it on the way and you’re good to go.”
“You’re not supposed to microwave them,” he sighed.
“You think I have the time to boil water? I wake up ten minutes before class starts, you’re lucky I’m even having breakfast.”
“Your lifestyle stresses me out.”
“So you’ve told me.”
You perched yourself on the bed as Jisung pulled on a pair of sweatpants and ran a hand through his hair in an effort to tame his curls.
“Ready to go downstairs?”
You nodded. “I think I’ll take you up on that omelet.”

What's your silly season prediction? I have been thinking bc to me there's no way Carlos doesn't have a seat for next year.
So we know that Lewis/Charles are in ferrari and Mclaren have their drivers locked down.
I think mercedes is gonna take Checo. Why? first they don't have the car to be breaking others drivers contract, they need a midfield that can help George but still be good at getting points, I feel Checo is better in a top car but not the top car. They need someone who bring some marketing, they are gonna take a blow now that Lewis is gone but Checo have the North America audience and is probably the driver that brings more money beside Lewis. I don't feel Kimi is ready for a Mercedes seat yet, Checo is old enough to retire when he's ready.
That leaves the RBR seat free, the obvious choice would be Carlos, I was very on board with this till the whole Horner mess and realized how messy Jos is and still have some power within the team so I bet he won't let Carlos get that seat lol. My bet is on Fernando then, I know Markos don't want him but Horner will, no way Daniel is getting that seat sorry.
So then Carlos to AM with Lance, hopeful it gets better and he can fight for podiums at least, he really deserves a top seat.
Zhou stay with Sauber but Bottas is gone, I'm not sure they would take their academy driver so my bet is Nico, he's wanted by Audi so he's just getting in one year early.
Haas stay with Magnussen because they won't have two rookie but Ollie gets the other seat.
Yuki stay and Daniel is out, Liam get his seat.
Williams stay with Albon, the other seat I'm not sure... I feel Kimi should do another year in f2 but Toto may get cocky and get him the seat. If not they would get maybee Gasly, I feel he wants out of alpine and this is the best he can get.
Alpine stay the same if Gasly doesn't leave, if he is gone then they are getting one of their academy drivers maybe Jack.
I agree with a lot of what you’ve said.
However, based on how things stand now, i think RB will resign Perez. They don’t need any more damn upheaval and he is delivering right now, as well as not making a nuisance of himself.
I think a lot of this hinges on Kimi and how he does in f2 and how much testing they are able to get him. But lets say he ends up needing another year in f2.
I think Alonso to Merc, and Carlos to AM. Alonso is not happy with the performance of the car, even Krack said it, he doesn’t want to drive in 10th. Toto likes a proven entity and Alonso is certainly that. But the other thing about Alonso, he’s old. He’ll take a one year contract because he doesn’t know how long he wants to do this, and Toto doesn’t have years to be offering, because he has to keep the seat warm for Kimi. You could say Carlos is ideal for Merc because there’s only one year until Audi comes in, but i have a sixth sense that Carlos would either want to bed down at Merc, or not go there at all. So I see Alonso to Merc on a one year contract, and Sainz to AM to hedge his bets on staying there if Daddy Warbucks manages to produce a good car, or switching to Audi if it’s the trenches.
On RBR, I don’t think anyone over there wants to add the sainzs to the list of obnoxious families involved in whatever is going on over there. And I don’t think they want to be playing games with Alonso either. They want to let Max do what Max does with minimal interruptions and as fun as Fernando is I don’t think his antics would be washing over there. I think Horner has lost too much pull over there to be making waves. He’s survived the assassination attempt but at the cost of realising he is ALONE in that garage. I don’t think he’ll be willing to stir up any animosity from Jos or Helmut by trying to bring back Daniel. And with Daniel’s performance he has no leg to stand on.
Yuki is a lock until 2026 which means Daniel is out and Liam is in (I think Liam has already signed).
Agree that Bearman and KMag will be the lineup for Haas.
Would love to see a whole new lineup for Sauber, but unlikely. I think they’re just as likely to stick with Zhou and Bottas as to get rid of them, because I think Audi will want a totally new lineup In 2026 anyway. I’m not sure what the pipeline is like for Sauber if Ferrari academy drivers go to Haas. Would not be surprised at all if it was Nico, I’d like to see him stay on the grid. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was Daniel, as an Audi audition and for the marketing.
I think Alex has one more year on the contract at Williams so he’s locked in. Sargeant definitely gone. I don’t know who else is in the Williams academy so can’t say who will get the seat. I am very skeptical about Kimi getting it. I think it will take James Vowles having NO other option before he takes on a Mercedes’ junior. I don’t think it’s unlikely that Kimi will go straight to Merc in 2026 (or 2025 honestly. They could use it as a test year for him if they are just giving up on the current regs). But yeah I see another rookie at Williams. Unless they get a hint that Alex is leaving…in which case they’ll be scrambling for someone with experience but idk who they will find. I don’t think they’ll take Gasly with that attitude of his.
I see alpine sticking with the baguettes. Maybe they dump Pierre but that’s a big maybe because the heck else are they going to get? Doohan doesn’t seem like he’d do a better job and their car is so bad a rookie might not even be able to keep it out of the wall. If they don’t improve the car, I see them sticking with the current lineup.
So yeah I mostly agree. But I’m just SO excited to see a couple of rookies on the grid, and Liam too.
