Modern AU Thropple filming the “suspect” challenge that was all over IG and TikTok a few months ago (PS I always feel the need to mention that my brain versions of them are all neurodivergent! Glinda is AuDHD, Elphaba is Autistic and Fiyero has ADHD!):

THIS.

Several things lead me to believe Glinda specifically is Autistic and ADHD and we don’t talk about it enough.

• Her need for routine and having things ‘her way.’

• Her genuine obliviousness to when she’s sounding mean. Her little “Did that come out wrong? I was trying to be nice…” to Pfanee and others I can’t think of.

• Sometimes it seems like she doesn’t understand the context of social norms/Social cues or even throws them out completely.

• The School’s apparent catering to Glinda could also be part of an IEP disguised as just rich kid shenanigains.

• Her little singing, squeals, and literal hand flapping are all stims.

• Her Hyperfixation is literally masking (aka being ‘Popular’.) 

Glinda is SOOOO Autistic coded.

Elphaba is the kind of autistic where it is inconceivable for her to mask and Glinda is the kind of autistic that has her mask so firmly in place that she doesn't even realize she's doing it. They are in love also

Get ready for MORE GELPHIE ANALYSIS because the queer audhd English major brain never rests.

We know that Glinda is trying to get the Munchkins to empathize with Elphaba even though she can't publicly defend or mourn her. But another nice touch from the brilliant mind of Stephen Schwartz is that in telling about Elphaba's childhood,she makes a point to mention Elphaba's father being appointed governor of Munchkin Land. There are LAYERS here.

We know that Glinda was from a wealthy and prominent family. She has gone through a lot of character development at this point,but she is still Glinda Upland. Status and titles mean a lot to her still. Telling everyone that Elphaba was born in Munchkin Land is supposed to humanize her and show she is literally one of them yes...BUT our girl was bragging on her girl. She was letting them KNOW Elphie ain't a common wicked bitch. She's letting them know her bestie is ALSO from a prominent family and put some fucking respect on her name. It goes over their heads,but Glinda tried so hard short of telling the truth (which would be against Elphaba's wishes) or obliterating some munchkin ASS for shit talking her baby. I know seeing her finally get to cry her eyes out about it is going to wreck me

HEADCANONS

Comphet lesbian: She’s been made fun of by the other rich girls for being a “girl-kisser” when she was about 9 and ever since then, she starts trying to prove to them that she is not it.

This is also why she latches onto Fiyero from day one, he is “perfect”. And a prince. Precisely the type of guy she *should* be with.

She is AuDHD, but thanks to the environment she grew up in, she learned to mask it very early on. Her entire life has been a performance and masking her neurodivergency is an essential part of that. Her most natural behavior is what we see in “Popular”, whether movie or play. Glinda naturally expresses herself by being exaggerated and dramatic and she stims vocally a lot.She is actually very smart. One of the few people from the Uplands who got into Shiz (in the books, she is the first woman to do so but since the Oz from the movies is not mysoginy land, we’re going with that instead). However, she plays dumb because that makes people bend to her easier.

Obviously, she loves pink. But her other favorite color is blue! She likes pastel tones and soft colors :).

She loves flowers, but her favorites are pink roses. This is especially because there is a big rose bush in the Upland State and her mumsie calls her “my little rose”.

Not quite a headcanon, but something from the book I'm using in all my verses: Galinda is a pagan, follower of Lurline. However, I am NOT converting her to Unionism or anything else like it happens by the end of the book.

She is, perhaps, the kind of girl you'd expect to be afraid of bugs, frogs and such, but growing up in a farm, she's in fact not afraid of any of these creatures and finds them very valuable.

Also, since she grew up in a farm, she used to be a very wild child. Not quite a tomboy because she's always appreciated her little dresses and femme ways, but said cute dresses would end up ruined by the end of the day.

Also, from the book, she had a caretaker apart from her parents growing up named Ama Clutch. She cared for Galinda as well as her needs and she was supposed to go to Shiz with her, but she stepped on a nail and couldn't make it (evidenced by an Easter Egg in the movie :)c)

About my main verse Glinda

Hi. This will be a little summary of some headcanons and things about my Glinda while mixing book and movie/musical! This will be the version you will be interacting with but I can also write fully book version upon request! >:3

Regarding her backstory:

She grew up in the Upper Uplands, as we know, however, like book Glinda, her family was not the richest of the country. She is still very rich, but her family's status compared to the other Upland families is actually the lowest.

Thus she grew up in a very competitive environment, where her family was constantly looked down upon. That's how she learned to be mean, but also that if she gave people what they wanted, she would get what she wanted and everybody won :)

She also learned that if she ostracized other people, they would not focus on excluding her.

She's always had a good relationship with her parents and they've always given her everything she wanted. The Upland State is a big farm with all kinds of animals, a garden, and they also produce vegetables. Galinda has a mare named Princess, she is brown with white markings (like Rain from Spirit!). She got her when she was about 7 and this was her companion pet growing up.

(For those unfamiliar with the books: talking Animals will always be capitalized, thus, Princess is a regular horse, not a Horse, she doesn't talk like Fiyero's Horse in the movie).

Despite Oz being a very queer-friendly place, rich society still sucks with the pressure for everyone to have heirs and whatnot, thus, lesbian hetcomp Galinda is born! :)

Regarding her name change:

I am definitely not a fan of how it is done in the musical. In the book, she actually does care about Doctor Dillamond (and is absolutely shocked since he is actually murdered), so my Glinda's reasoning will either be because of the Goat himself OR because she wants to show Elphaba that she cares. Glinda is not just a dumb character who only cares if a boy likes her or not and this will never be the reason for my Glinda's name change.

I see pieces of my autism in both of them too! Like Elphaba I am usually not a sensory seeker in terms of external stimulus, more quiet, have that moral sense of justice. I will also infodump my trauma if someone shows me even the smallest smidge of kindness and asks but especially when I was younger and didn’t know I was autistic I very much also tried (and failed) to be “socially acceptable” and I am more of a movement stimmer (think Popular with all her movements in the dancing and the way she kicks her leg up in the hall and on the banister and the deleted toss toss scene bouncing on the bed and everything else with that scene). Plus her RSD in the ‘Elphaba’s Promise’ deleted scene, I felt it so hard.

No hate to the people who headcanon Elphaba as autistic, but imo if anyone in this duo is autistic is the one who came up with a special hair toss system that is scientifically proven to make you more well liked and then went on a 4 minute rant about her special interests and the most effective ways to mask become popular

This is one of my favorite headcanons I’ve seen because it feeds directly into my AuDHD Galinda theory! Galinda spends so much of her life being perceived by EVERYONE, she doesn’t want to be perceived doing the mundane, ordinary things or putting on her ‘mask’ (makeup/hair). It could also be a little bit of Pathological Demand Avoidance (this is just me projecting my own PDA profile onto Galinda but hear me out lol) because I’m always afraid of being judged for not doing things “perfectly” and that makes me just not want other people to know I’m doing chores or in Galinda’s case homework or anything. If she’s having any struggles with her homework she doesn’t want other people to see her struggling. See something that is a fault to her. See a crack in her mask. This is also part of why she wanted a private suite! So she could have her own space to be alone and be the version of her without a mask, could have space to struggle and get through it without other people seeing her, a space to hide. And Elphaba hijacked her space! I think post Ozdust once they have a mutual understanding and friendship Elphie could be more of a body double and they could work on their homework together or do chores or Galinda could do her makeup while Elphie reads or writes a letter to her father or whatever. Once they come to that understanding that they’re not that different after all (because my autistic Elphaba headcanon is here as well) they can just exist and both drop their masks and stim and struggle and body double and exist in cohabitation and Galinda can have less anxiety about being perceived!

random headcanon but I feel like glinda would be oddly embarrassed by elphie watching her do things (at first). like she wouldn’t want elphie to see her doing her hair and makeup. she’d abruptly stop cleaning/organizing/working out/whatever when elphie enters the room. elphie never sees her do her laundry, it just magically gets done when she’s not there. and the worst is homework bc glinda can’t go anywhere else to do it w/out other people seeing her but she doesn’t want elphie to see her doing it either. lose lose
