One most fascinating platonic relationship that I wanna see explored is Mai and Katara. I think they could be good friends.

I believe Mai's lack of caring stems from her being pigeonholed in a role. She might yearn for the kind of journey Katara had.

I think Katara might want to be more familiar with dealing with nobility like Mai is.

There are lots of things they could bond over and I think they could be amazing friends.

my fav dynamics in atla are. not ships?? the platonic interactions are so so compelling, just as if not more compelling than the ships. i love u fire siblings tragically destroying each other. i love u water siblings torn apart by gender and brought together by love. i love u ursa being a complicated person. i love u uncle iroh possibly projecting lu ten on zuko. i love u toph’s horrible relationship with her parents. i love u aang’s conflict with the past avatars

No, but like Aang probably thought all those people he threw off cliffs or through buildings or delt fatal blows to were fine because he fought Zuko for so long.

Like, man got blown up. Man has had multiple people try to kill him and survived. Man got thrown through buildings and survived. He is that “why won’t you die??” Antagonist (and later fellow protagonist).

Aang has been unknowingly sending people to their deaths because he thought everyone in the fire nation was either an unkillable, little cockroach like Zuko or so overwhelmingly skilled and talented like Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee and would 100% survive that kind of damage.
