Chapter VI

Also, this is probably my favorite chapter so far. 

      Now, taking a closer look, I wish I noticed the Fruit seller's influence on the park since his arrival. There is some type of respect (pretended, of course) and apprehension among everyone that coexist in his presence. Actuallly, during the last few months I saw him everywhere I went, but he was not exactly following me, he was doing part of my job.

      How did he manage to get to such a high position without me realizing it? How negligent have I been regarding the park that I ended up abandonning the things that are most important to me? How did I get to that point?

      At that sudden realization my body started producing cold sweat. I became apprehensive. Who the Fruit Seller honestly is?

     I found him one day going through a tiny door, a private room just for him. The bastard got his own room to sell his plants and I didn't even know.

          At that point, I started buying his drugs sporadically. My excuses for starting that habit are the same: "it's easier", making excuses to stay in that shithole and sinking even more has become my own coping mechanism.

         Even so, for unknown and unexplainable reasons, there was something inside me that saw the mistake I was doing, it always saw. My mind was divided in two: the one that could comprehend reality - and was able to tell that everyone had exchanged the honest happiness that my brother created for the park for a ugly distorted and numb 'happiness' based on the Seller's drugs - and the one that wanted to remain oblivious to everything, only paying attention to what I care to be relevant.

 Fuck it. I got inside his particular room. Before meeting him, I found myself in front of a long corridor. Its walls were covered with bindweed, which was from the same species of his weird plant, with it's remarkable purple fruit. A disgusting smell of burning plant filled my nostrills. I noticed the tiny fruit that he sold was shaped like a small sphere. Sarsaparilla is in fact a plant used like opium, its branches usually have small purple balls at the end joined as a circle-like formation.

         The bindweed made the environment feel like a tiny forest with its long, leafy branches. So then, I finally got inside the room where sales were held, full of plants of the same species: sarsaparilla.

The Fruits Maker is not like everyone else. The others are visceral, carnal, freaks looking for power over others. Him, on the other hand, is always in the shadows, watching. To be honest with you, maybe he is not so different from the others, he sells that hellish fruit to everyone, that 'place of happiness' is rotting with that purple mist. Therefore, he has power over everyone who buys his products, everyone who buys from him always comes back to buy more. What a fool I was, it is obvious that he is like the other pigs, the difference is that his thinking is wired on creating ways to extract from the lives of rotten people and not from the rest of the zombies.

Speaking of which, I'm not sure I know the tenuous difference between any zombie person and a rotten person. Both are zombies, some are static and others are almost animals; some believe that everyday life is the limit of their lives and there is nothing beyond it and others simply believe that nothing matters beyond this false and corrupt pleasure that this amusement park has become.

The Dream Room holds every type of corrupted pleasure you can imagine. This is where we all get together after the monotony of everyday life. It is here that we try to find something to "live" something close to what we idealized in our lives.

Going back to the present where I find myself reflecting, I believe I am avoiding my next decision. I don't want to look at that mask. It protects him from the residual toxins from the production of its drug, but underneath it, there is pure rot. The Fruit Seller cannot be human.

Before I turned my back on him, we were at an impasse: the Salesman told me that everything always works out at the end when I use the fruit, that I shouldn't think too much. But I hate it with all my strength, I hate the black and white of everyday life, I hate the sickly purple color of the drug. Because of that reason, I believe he's not human, what kind of person would say this to another: "ignore your problems and what bothers you by doping your brain", damn, everyone in that room mustn't have thought twice; they bought whole branches for the whole night.

I feel like there's nothing inside me saying not to use the drug other than the simple thought that it's wrong. I wish I didn't want to use it but, deep down, I know I will end up buying it. If it is not to find 'happiness', I tell myself that I should use it to at least shut my mind, though if this is the last reasonable part of my brain left, I'm scared for my own well being.

"- How long do you think you can take it?" - it was the Salesman's voice that scared me out of my thoughts.

"-...What you mean?" - was the answer I mustered while turning around.

"- You know, you won't be able to last much longer."

"-...I'm going to buy it..."

"-I sure of it, but I was referring to the fact that you won't be able to bear believing on that kind of belief for long."

"- Belief? Do I look like a religious person?"

"- You have the characteristics of a believer, yes"

"- ..." - at this point in the conversation, I could feel myself grateful that we were avoiding the moment where I'd end up purchasing the product, but I wasn't following where he wanted to go with this conversation.

"- Well, you believe that somewhere in this world someone can feel full happiness without using this fruit, I noticed that you are one of the only ones who keep up with this belief around here."

"-..." - I don't think I'll ever have an answer to that. Is it impossible to live in this place without any sort of belief? Is this what the Fruits Maker’ve been selling? The belief and ‘trust’ on the happiness delivered by his plants? Things fell into place easily inside my head, I agreed with what he said.

However, I can't elaborate much with the idea that everything we do and dream about is based on a belief. You can't live without beliefs. Whether they are the simple wish for a better tomorrow or fanatical beliefs about some day when there'll be an end for all of our suffering. That's kind of the way we live.

"- Please, I'll buy the whole package." - I said, taking the money out of my pocket.

So, if this makes sense at all, I wanted to explain that this chapter was written before the first ones. So basically, the idea of this chapter popped inside my head and it had potential to be something bigger so here we are. Also, I’d like to emphasize that the themes of this fanfic (mentions of religious stuff, drugs) are part of the actual song, and video, since it inspired me to write all this and et cetera. and...I shouldn’t be explaining myself but u know, just to be clear lol

WOZWALD theory post

A comprehensive explanation post on the vocaloid song WOZWALD by Niru Kajitsu ft. v_flower, a song about the evils of humanity, the definition of happiness, and possibly Walt Disney.

INTRO + CHARACTERS

The basic theory is that WOZWALD is inspired by Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, a character created by Walt Disney in the 1920s, hence where the title "Wozwald" comes from.

These are the character design sheets, from the illustrator WOOMA's twitter:

Winnie Schrader, the white haired guy (protagonist)

Atie Schrader, the black haired guy

Oz (or Woz), the small rabbit creature/mascot

Fruits Maker, the guy with the mask

and Kalmia, the woman in the bar with long braided hair (Kalmia has her own song, "Shama" which you should definitely check out because its great.)

PLOT

The PV follows Winnie Schrader and Oz as they go around Wozwald, an amusement park likely inspired by Disneyland. Wozwald was founded by a man named Atie Schrader on December 5th 1932, who then died 11 years later in 1943 as seen in a few shots where a funeral and a hospital bed can be seen.

Here is a compilation of the flashes of texts at the beginning, some written in braille code, a tactile writing system used by people who are visually impaired:

“These are applicable to all humans.” the tagline of this video, as commented by Niru Kajitsu himself.

"We are inspired by you!"

"I know. I know. I know.”

“I don’t know.”

“Dad?”

“Sorry.”

It follows with a newspaper headline that says “WOZWALD HAS BEEN OPENED First Blind Founder ATIE SCHRADER.” From this and the fact that there was braille, we can conclude that Atie Schrader is blind, which we can also see from the colour of his white eyes. It can be assumed that Atie Schrader is the father of Winnie Schrader, as they both share last names, and the flashing texts in the PV that say "Dad?" along with the shots of them seen as a father and son. This means Atie has left his inheritance, including the amusement park to Winnie after he died.

Judging by the newspaper Winnie reads with the current date 1960, it seems that Wozwald (or Winnie himself) has received an award, which means that the amusement park is still running.

Throughout the PV, Winnie seems to be suffering from suicidal and depressive thoughts, resorting to drugs that cause him to hallucinate. These “drugs” are given to him by the Fruits Maker. The fruits in this video seems to not only symbolize “drugs” but similar to the forbidden fruit in Adam and Eve, represents a forbidden sort of “happiness.” Winnie’s hallucinations are often about his deceased father, Atie, who is a figure that comforts him.

The song progresses with Winnie’s downfall into the use of "fruits”. He's seen going to a bar located inside Wozwald called “Dreams” where all the fruit-dealing (happiness) happens. Note that Disneyland’s tagline is “The Happiest Place On Earth”.

Kalmia is also seen at the bar, where it is hinted that she is a sex worker.

Note that this story takes place several years before Shama, as confirmed by Niru Kajitsu and WOOMA on their livestream. The ‘24′ written next to Kalmia’s name on the character sheets might suggest her age at the time of Wozwald.

Winnie is aware that the people at the bar and their “happiness” is seen as something corrupt. However he has become so used to this sort of “happiness” that he sees it as nothing more than a “polluted tea party”. Winnie meets again with the Fruits Maker, and buys more fruits from him.

As Winnie is falling, Atie tries to catch him but fails, instead Winnie falls to the ground since Atie is not real. He is dead.

After what seems to be Winnie experiencing a traumatic flashback induced by Oz, he is beckoned to “come here” by Atie and experiences a mental breakdown. At the end, Winnie is seen in the afterlife, wearing a hoodie just like Atie. As he bites into the apple, achieving “happiness”, the PV ends with a scene revealing that he's committed suicide.

THEORIES

The theory is that these characters are allegories to the following:

Winnie → Mickey Mouse

Atie → Walt Disney

Oz → Oswald The Lucky Rabbit

OZ → OSWALD THE LUCKY RABBIT

Before the iconic Mickey Mouse was created, there was Oswald The Lucky Rabbit. Oswald faded from popularity after Walt Disney lost the rights to own him to Universal Studios. Later, Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse in an attempt to replace Oswald and has become the beloved cartoon character he is today, leaving Oswald forgotten to history.

Oz might be symbolic for the suicidal thoughts that bother Winnie and is what drives him to consume drugs and later commit suicide. In fact there is even a Disney series called “Epic Mickey” that has “metafiction plot that parallels Oswald's real-world history, dealing with the character's feelings of abandonment by Disney, and envy towards Mickey Mouse.” If we are to assume Oz is Oswald, and Winnie is Mickey Mouse, then Oz could be an entity that holds a grudge against Winnie, who stole the spotlight and fame that he deserved. This is why Oz wants Winnie dead and is trying to get him to kill himself throughout the video.

This sprouts another theory: That Oz's mascot form is just a symbolic representation. Oz was actually a real human who died and is now a ghost haunting Winnie. In Disney media, Oswald and Mickey mouse are depicted as half brothers, with Walt Disney as their father figure.

Atie is seen holding hands with Oz, but it then is replaced with another boy, likely Winnie. It’s possible that Atie actually had two sons and that Oz and Winnie were brothers, but Oz died and was forgotten somewhere along history, much like Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse.

Another interesting thing to note is that WOOMA wrote “IF” next to Oz’s name. The word “if” in Japan is often used in the sense of an “AU”, as in “Alternative Universe” “What If”.

If we are going with the human theory, it’s possible that Winnie is not actually Atie’s biological son but is actually adopted. Walt Disney had two daughters, one of which was adopted. This emphasizes the fact that Winnie is the “fake” and that Oz is the real “son”.

When Winnie is watching the TV, there seems to be a public dispute of some sorts. According to the storyboard of the PV posted by WOOMA on her twitter, the scene is written as “fighting over ownership”. Oswald The Lucky Rabbit faced many legal rights issues in his history. A man named Charles Mintz took the rights of Oswald and claimed Oswald as an official Universal Studios character, thus taking him away from Disney.

Additionally, the wingdings that are seen on the TV say “steal, anger, thought”.

僕無しで ああ息をして また偽りのイメージで媚び売んの

Living, without me in the picture, you delight everyone with your fake image.

This line is most likely directed at Winnie, who is the “Mickey Mouse” replacing him.

1943. A funeral. Possibly Atie’s funeral. A young boy with black hair is crying. One would think this to be a young Winnie with black hair, but it could actually be someone else, likely human Oz. Also, notice how his fingers aren’t black like Winnie’s fingers are.

Another theory is that this boy is neither Oz or Winnie, but actually a young Atie. The funeral symbolized the death of the “child inside him”, along with his imagination, happiness, and also Oz. It should be noted that 1943 is the year Oswald the Lucky Rabbit’s screen career ended and was the year they stopped making cartoons of him, hence 1943 can be considered the year Oswald died.

During 3:16 Oz can be seen talking with a distorted voice, the barely visible text reads and translates to "Sacrificing someone else to live off of them like a parasite. How shameful." which most likely is directed at Winnie. Again, this further reinforces the Oswald-Mickey theory.

At the part where Winnie is dying, a person with black hair can be seen.

One would think this is Atie, however they have different coloured eyes. Atie is blind and has white eyes. This person has black eyes. It’s a possibility that this is actually the human form of Oz. Note that he also bears similarity to the boy crying in the funeral, who also might’ve been Oz.

In Epic Mickey, "The Wasteland" is a world where cartoon characters go to when they are retired, rejected or forgotten, and is based on Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Oswald is the ruler of The Wasteland. It's worth noting that all the characters in the bar (except Kalmia, since she is still alive as confirmed in Shama) are seen in the Afterlife at the end of the PV, meaning that they have also “died” and achieved “happiness”.

Another theory is that everyone in Wozwald's narrative are actually mascots, like Oz, but take the anthropomorphic form like Winnie as a form of their self consciousness, in other words Winnie and everyone else are human personifications of mascot characters in the amusement park. This would explain why all of them have inhuman features. This would also mean that everyone in the PV (except again, Kalmia) aren't real humans and are only characters created by Atie Schrader. But that’s a different theory.

WINNIE SCHRADER  → MICKEY MOUSE

誰彼誰だったっけ 少し褒められ慣れたよう 曰く先に名乗りさえすりゃあもう 総てオリジナルなんでしょう 万々歳

That guy- what’s his name again?

It seems like he’s getting used to being praised

Which means- just be the first to give your name

And it’ll all be your ORIGINAL work, hoo-hooray!

The face in the newspaper praising the award looks at Winnie, which he in turn makes a painful expression at. This can be taken as Winnie feeling guilty for taking credit he’s not due (he is not original, he is a remake of Oz as Mickey is the replacement for Oswald).

After Atie and Oz died and Winnie took over the amusement park, the definition of “happiness” in Wozwald changed. Now, Winnie and Fruits Makers (fake) happiness is what the people believe in and what runs the amusement park, compared to when it was still Atie and Oz’s “real happiness”.

パイオニア擬の龕燈 Q.E.D.

A Pseudo-pioneer’s Gando, Q.E.D

Pseudo-Pioneer - The original pioneer would have been Atie and Oz. But Winnie is called a “pseudo-pioneer” for being a pioneer in name alone. (This could also be in reference to how Walt Disney is considered an animation and cartoon pioneer, and was always called as such.)

Gando - is a type of ancient Japanese candle holder, that functioned as a lantern or light. There is a phrase in Japanese that is 龕灯返 (Gandou gaeshi) which is a term used in Kabuki Theater, which means to turn a property or object around to reveal a completely different image. It comes from the fact that the Gando has a handle that can be turned to control the direction of the candle light. It might be a bit of a stretch, but it does sound symbolic to Oz and Winnie being two sides of the same coin created by Atie.

Gando, however can also be translated as a buddha lamp, or the light from a buddhist altar. This ties in with the religious themes of the song, as there is mentions of “monks” in the lyrics. Lamps in religion generally symbolize enlightenment. Atie, in WOOMA’s character design sheet is named “priest”. This would suggest that Atie has reached enlightenment/true happiness in death.

Q.E.D - is an abbreviation of the Latin phrase "quod erat demonstrandum" meaning "what was to be shown" or "thus it has been demonstrated." Traditionally, the abbreviation is often used at the end of a mathematical proof or philosophical argument to indicate that the proof or argument is complete.

over and over again, let’s make things right

The lights on and off can be connected to Gando/Lamps and represents the internal conflict of Winnie, who is hesitant about achieving happiness/enlightenment. However the fruits maker shows up, urging him to do it anyway.

Sarsaparilla is a type of herb that is used as a drug that looks like little grapes, which look extremely similar to the fruits the Fruits Maker gives Winnie.

A lighter is then lit and Winnie falls into his hallucinations.

Note that the PV is entirely in black and white and the only colored objects in the video are the purple fruits. The smoke from Winnie’s cigarette is purple. This, along with the use of the lighter might mean that the media Winnie uses for his happiness/drug is his cigarette.

もうやだって 愛さないで

I've had enough, don't love me.

Winnie breaks down and is comforted by (a hallucinatory) Atie. Winnie cannot take the praise that he receives because he feels that it is undeserved.

There’s an interesting Japanese comment on youtube that suggests that the reason Winnie's fingers are black is a mark of Oz's death and represents Winnie's guilt for it. In Disney media such as the game Epic Mickey and the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, there is a common theme in which cartoon characters can be killed with a chemical liquid. In Epic mickey, it's thinner, which serves the opposite purpose of paint. In WFRR, it's "dip", a toxic created out of turpentine, acetone, and benzene. The fact that Winnie’s fingers have permanent ink on them is similar to him having "blood on his hands that he can't wash off."

信仰の様な暮らしから抜け出したい 

I want to escape from this life that seems more like a religion

The lyrics containing words such as “religion” and “belief” is a common theme in the song. Winnie compares his “existence/life” to a “religion/belief/cult” due to his image in society.

ATIE SCHRADER  →  WALT DISNEY

Atie Schrader is the character seemingly based on Walt Disney. He is the founder of Wozwald and also a blind man. Atie is written as “神��” in WOOMA’s character design sheet, which means “Priest/Father”, ironically Atie is also a Father in the more literal sense to Winnie. The hospital bed suggests that Atie died of sickness, possibly cancer, similar to Walt Disney's cause of death.

There is an old picture of a smiling Atie and Oz in the newspaper, with a text that is barely visible but you can make it out to say “This is the happiest day of my life.” probably a quote from Atie on the day he opened Wozwald.

At 3:23 Atie is seen arguing with someone, likely over legal issues over Oz/Wozwald. To me it looks like the events that happened just before Oz is taken away. Hence the “Dad?” and the “Sorry.” texts, since Atie has failed to protect Oz.

At 4:11 there is a scene where a person (presumably Oz) is decapitated.  

Among the figures Winnie faces in the afterlife, the one in the middle seems to be holding a persons head. This is likely Atie and Oz, who have been waiting for Winnie to come home.

CONCLUSION

I think in the end the tagline “These are applicable to all humans” is about the awful nature of humans. People are greedy and money hungry (like the people who stole Oz), people are envious and resentful (like the revenge seeking Oz), people are pleasure seeking and selfish (the people at the bar.) All in all... probably a commentary on capitalism. Faced with such a society is what makes Winnie think that real happiness is to be found in death, together with his father, whose happiness was also taken away by the same people.

It’ all about the angsty amirite

The place is called “Dream Room”, referring to the theme of our park: “The happiest place in the world”, which used to imply that every dream could come true. It started as a room designed for everyone that work here to have a “recreational” place. This term ended up with a very different meaning instead of something particularly "cosy".

Coming here has become a habit of mine. At the end of the day I'd finish the activities, spend some time with colleagues inside the accommodations, and we'd all follow each other's footsteps inside the Room. A daily cycle that I feel comfortable following. It is easier that way, following a stable, predictable pattern, it doesn't leave any room for many surprises and accidents (which I prefer to avoid at the moment).

         It is easier to take care of the problems that worry my mind with few emergencies along the day. Things that happen suddenly, things that don't go as planned, all of this generates a disorder that takes a lot of time and energy to fix.

        Listening to me must be ridiculous right now "it's easier, it's easier ...", I just repeat that. And I realize that I just keep repeating that. I cannot give importance to external issues, those that come from outside of my own introspection. They lost their relevance. They lost their meaning to my reality.

       That was probably how the Fruits Maker noticed a loophole. He decided to stick to me like a leech. He wanted to bribe me with his weird little grapes. I knew that if he managed to manipulate me, he would take control of the park.

       I remained neutral for months regarding his products. Now, you've got to believe me when I say that everyone that spends time inside the Room uses his drugs, it must leave a strong 'dependency effect'. I spent the whole year ignoring his precense amongst the park's business. He even went so far as to come to me with his animalistic friends, pretending to make small talk, putting up a friendly demeanor. At some poit, though, he stoped being so insistent to convince me to try his fruit-like drugs, or at least, that was my brief perception of his behaviour.

         The indifference inside me was such that we could have played this game of one avoiding the other for another year. He always stayed close by, as if keeping an eye on me, and in the meanwhile, I held a metaphysical barrier between us, completely ignoring his existence, even when he was right beside me. His presence became almost my shadow inside that Room. But his efforts were to no use, everything in my head revolved around my (obsessive) research for my brother's killer while another part of me tried to emotionally deal with the lie that was playing my character on stage.

      However, suddenly, around the end of the year, around the date of my deceased brother's birthday, two things happened and they were both my definitive down point. After all these months, I managed to 'woke up' for my reality for a brief moment, finally paying attention to the people in the park. That broke me instantly,right on that special date to me, in memory of everything related to my brother - all he build when alive - I saw something worse than his death in front of me.

      What I noticed was that all of the "fans" inside the park that day were wearing masks. Masks of my character. It looked like a cult. Terrifying.

     I couldn't think of anything else for the rest of the day, I just went back to my room, I remained frozen thinking about how to reverse that shit. Everything that used to be truly magical within the park's rides and cotton candys was dead. I got shocked and started pacing inside my bedroom, from bed to television, on repeat, for God knows how long.

      After a while, I noticed something that was not a part of my belongings sitting on top of my bench, even if I'd landed eyes on it earlier, I didn't notice it's presence until now - actually, that was the second tragedy of that day. That object was a bag, with a note beside it. It was from him, the Fruits Maker. The note reads as follows: "Congratulations, Winnie, you managed with great efforts to make the park a great place for all visitors, you should be happy about it." Inside the bag, his berries. I didn't even think much. Grabed a lighter from the top drawer. And used the drug.

Chapter I

(Introductory note: the events in this chronicle were inspired by the song "Wozwald" by Niru Kajitsu, and based on the theory compiled by Awaru (and btw, great job with the theory, thanks), so, the characters aren’t mine and they live in a dystopian place (even more than the place we live and know as Earth). Therefore, any similarity with reality might be is just coincidence. >:))

So, I hope you enjoy this fanfic (feel free to listen to the song covered by Yuu Miyashita before reading. It gave me enough inspiration to write more words than I’ve ever written).

It all started with the amusement park. It all started for me with the amusement park.  We were three: me, Atie and Dad. Atie was an inspiration for me, he was my older brother. Our father adopted me when we were children but he only brought me to his park when I was 10 years old.  This is an important detail to remember because Atie was basically ‘born’ in this park, he became the star here in a very short period of time. Our father owns the whole place, he creates the characters, we stage them. Atie's character was perfect, a super hero, people from everywhere and from any age group came to see his staging in our plays. Our audience was predominantly chlidren, but our plays suited everyone's taste.

The moment that brought me closer to Atie at the beginning of our lives together was when his fame became uncertain. Atie and I were just brothers, but when other creators started claiming the right to use my father's character, Atie’s character, his promising career began to crumble. From then on, I got to know how his job worked, I realized that even though Atie was honest and contagious with the joy he spreaded while staging, the system is corrupted. For a long time I was at his side, spying on his discussions with our father. Even so, in my presence, all his brightness was still there, he was still himself, even on the verge of collapse. This is now inspiring for me and gives me a lot of sorrow to remember, however, at that time I couldn’t avoid being worried about what could happen to him and the park. Till this day, I doubt that those creators of other production lines would have won the lawsuit. Apparently my father's creation was too similar to the protagonist of a very famous children's show. The fact is that, to nip the problem in the bud, our father simply deleted Atie's character from history. He threw away his creation. After that I didn't see Atie for weeks, I didn't know where to find him. I believe he was just sad and feeling down after finding an end so fast in a career that was leveraging the entire park’s reputation. This is where I enter the story. Seamed like our father already had (or always had) a letter up his sleeve. He created a new character, as good as Atie's. It would be our salvation, the hand that would hold the entire name of the park before it even went bankrupt. However, we had a problem. Atie was indeed gone. News two days after the time he went missing revealed to us that he was actually dead. Reflecting about it now, I think it was on that day that things started to fade before my eyes. All this time I’ve been just living, watching, like the young kid I still was. When Atie died, everything changed, it became different. It killed me inside, of course. But, it was only the beginning of the problem. My father's quick reasoning decided that I would be the ideal person to replace Atie. He anticipated our inheritance and left the entire park in my hands. Obviously, even today, my father supervises the management of the main sectors of the park (management makes a lot of money), but the rest is up to me.

On second thought, I think right at this point, when a ton of people surfaced congratulating me, that was the beginning of me starting to languish.

I can be ungrateful, some would call me that, I know, but there is no excuse, I really am ungrateful. All I felt was pain and regret for being given credit in my brother's place. As if he could have simply disappeared and never existed, now I am the new star and I cannot feel the prestige of my work at all.

It feels like I'm being inconsistent, doesn't it? Years ago I wanted to be able to continue with my brother's work, now, I don't settle for replacing him. I can guarantee you, I'm not so indecisive, I just hate what this job has become, and this park. Everything I've done so far has been hidden by appearances. A cheerful and always smiling character? Completely untrue. I will never do things the same way as my brother did. Now, much less.

Pretending to be in a different mood instead of my true state of mind is easy for me, I dare affirm I'm a professional. I'm not proud of that. Atie wouldn't be proud either.

Becoming extremely pessimistic and melancholic started as a process. It is easy to blame the shock suffered by the death of my brother and the disgusting environment I work in - full of fake people who live on appearances - but a part of the blame is mine too, I could have left, looked for a better place, even if it doesn't exist, perhaps searching it 'pathlessly' would've been better than living here, where things are already sunk.

No, maybe I'm here because me and this place look alike. Maybe I never left because I belong to it, I don't know if I became it or succumbed to it, but right now, I'm just like it. It may all have started with my obsession over Atie's death - he died here, the answers must be here - but I was the one who decided to stay in this hole.

Maybe I didn't leave because everything was set for me, the park was here before me, all I had to do was sit in this comfort zone. Regardless, all that mess and wrong steps followed behind one another led me to frequent the Dream Room more and more, and that's when I began to spend more and more time with the Fruits Maker.

I never wanted that for my life. Inspecting sectors of the park so that they are in order, organizing groups of employees, things that I used to get done as quickly as possible, giving these tasks to other people to figure out, my assistants. My main role, to act as the new and freshly born character, is too similar to Atie’s character for my taste. Luckily, I like staging it, it's fun. I like creating the character’s new narratives and adventures so that me and the other actors can perform them.

That's what I find myself doing right now, by the way. Writing new pages with different adventures, totally out of the context we live in - to explain it shortly, I’m writing stories with happy endings. I live near the park, in one of the dorms, along with all the employees, actresses, actors ... Thankfully, the place is big, we change people with absurd frequency. The reason for this I can't say for sure, probably because the place is not very “healthy”. And it is sometimes difficult to hide this dirt and not let it show up in our work.

Returning to my room, it seems that all the walls are full of papers. I put them on, I can't help it. Glued to them can be found: narratives for new plays (mine and others), annoying management duty paper, photos of the oldest staff, and most importantly, news from the newspapers, testimonies, clues, everything I could find about my brother's death.

I will probably never get over his death. Even though it doesn't hurt to think about his memories anymore, his death still haunts me. Who killed him? It should have been the first question answered by police investigations. However, for me, it has not been answered until today. For the media, it’s also not been answered either. The problem with the media is that every topic that calls too much attention keeps on going from person to person for a very short time, now, no one remembers the guy, my brother, who used to be very famous in an amusement park in the past and suddenly died.

The case was hushed up, my father's doing, he didn't want that kind of fame for our park. Bribed everyone he saw in his way, made everyone keep silent. As for the investigations, they became confidential and met an end when Atie's body was found. Suicide, was the conclusion.

It will never be suicide for me. The worst thing of all was facing my father after the funeral. His calm demeanor pissed me off. He didn't say anything to me, but I knew he felt as if a big weight was taken out of his back, as if the death of his son meant nothing more than the death of his character. Could my father be indirectly involved in Atie's death? Even if this train of thought makes me feel nauseous, I can't help considering it.

However, I am unable to prove to myself that my father had anything to do with my brother's death. No matter how hard I look for, nothing specifically indicates my suspicions. It's just impossible, Dad loved Atie, the amusement park used to beam with happiness when he was alive, those were used to be golden years for all the participants: workers and children who came here to have fun.

Nowadays, I still cling against the final decison of the investigation. Nothing connects me to the park besides Atie's memories, nothing makes me want to follow his path as an actor here besides the wonderful things he did. I must follow his footsteps, honor his path, seek his truth.

Chapter III

The third chapter, when things get better for the park, but Winnie doesn’t feel this way.

The park was magical. Enchanted. Everyone loved it, with that type of love that trusts things will always be the way they are and that the park will always continue to bring happiness to everyone.

Even I believed that. Again, Atie's death destroyed that reality for me until then. His death represents the death of his character, the character that brought joy to people, and also represents the beginning of chaos.

Stuff around the park have always been managed by a lot of people, some take part in especific responsibilities, others dictate orders, some of them order those that give orders. It's chaotic, but, I don't mind, I accuse myself of saying that I didn't even care about it at first. I don't want to manage the whole park, so it is better that way if there are already people working on it. All I have to do is approve or disapprove projects. This way makes things get easier, even if it's still stressful.

In the middle of this mess without precise and constant organization, he, the Fruits Maker, appeared. I don't remember where I first saw him, if it was in the Dream Room (a place that you will see me talking about several times later on), or involved in bureaucracies regarding the park.

That's right, this weird guy infiltrated through the park's most powerful people. I always see him with the same specific clothes used for safety measures in laboratories that deal with toxic chemicals. His gas mask is part of his outfit. This weird clothing leaves no part of the body to the eye, not even his hands, which are always inside his gloves.

I didn't know for a while what kind of influence he had in the park. I imagined he reached the top selling his drug and finding loopholes to act. I saw him frequenting the Dream Room more and more.

While he made his discreet way around the park, for at least five years things remained promising: my father rarely showed up at the park, he let his people do his work. It got to the point where he really stopped showing up. That information didn't come to my knowledge out of my own wishes, I never saw him again, not for lack a of opportunity, I just wanted to distance myself for him. In the meantime, the administration of the place became constant (with the same group of people for more than two weeks) for longer than I expected, our work maintained it's quality, we started to receive a greater number of visitors.

We began to appear on the newspapers again, I, more specifically, appeared more often than the others, and on the front pages. The headlines said that my job was great, I was to be congratulated for the success of the park, and for the performance of my character. The character that replaced Atie.
