Continent Overview - Remtei
So the first Continent I'm going to give the general overview for, though it was the second designed, is that of Remtei.
The land of Snow, Sand and Sky. A continent full of a mix of very diverse environments, cultures and creatures. Comprising of three very different nations one of religious zeal, another of advancing intellect and a third of feral intuition. These nations are Athus, Elgary and The Frostlands.
Tumblr media
The first nation is Athus, where the current campaign I run "Ruins" is currently set. Athus is a land of religious zeal, desolate wastes, high peaks and long forgotten mysteries. Located in the south of the continent of Remtei, Athus is mostly made up of deserts and a series of mountain ranges. The largest of these mountains is located in the centre of the nation and is known as the Athan Peak. The capital is a city known as Vannasir and is governed by 7 different orders that follow different deities from the setting.
Next we'll cover Elgary. Located in the North Eastern portion of Remtei, Elgary is a land of great heights, whether this be their great mountains or floating highlands. As of such the nation’s people have a large affinity for the sky whether this be through the nation’s invention of sky ships or the fact that many of them have the ability of controlling the winds and some even have the ability of flight themselves. Its capital Silens is a highly innovative city, with years of scientific developments to boast, whether it be the creation of the Warforged over 800 years ago, the recent development of the Silenian Hybrids (my setting's name for the Simic Hybrid race) and much more.
And lastly we'll cover The Frostlands. The Frostlands is a frigid nation, seemingly locked into an eternal winter. Towns are very sparse within this nation, however that does not mean it lacks communities. Across the frozen wastes there are 12 different tribes that roam the region, very much so viking inspired, that all follow the nations leader, their Warmother. Though this unity does not prevent fights and animosity between the clans. In this region people have to focus on their base instincts to survive, as many predators, be they man or beast, have adapted to these frozen wastes and they are all fighting to be the one that survives.
I've really enjoyed not only developing this continent but also getting to DM a regular game in it. Which I can say has really tested my writing and improv skills. Each of the nations will get further posts discussing they're history and locations, so keep an eye out.

Princess Zelda (My OC) from All That Hurts Us. This is meant to be a Royal Portrait. She wears a riding dress for most of the story, not this crazy thing.
She’s a bit of a big girl and I’m having a hard time actually mentioning it in the story because it’s just. Not relevant.
I have to draw her hands. Hylia help me.

Op, I write original Zelda stories and I am looking for readers!
I have some set in games too, but the big ones are original.
I hope you’ll give them a chance and enjoy them.
First up, Hero. Original Link and Zelda in a dystopian Hyrule secretly ruled by Ganon. Link’s biggest hurdle: the poor thing is afraid of pretty much everything. Just a warning though, it’s old as the hills, I wrote it before Twilight Princess came out so also before the timeline came out, forcing me to just make one up. Posted it on ff back in the days but it’s on ao3 as well:
Second, this one has a different enemy because it is set way, way into the future, Ganon is gone or changed, your pick. Original Link, evil « Zelda », it’s about ending the curse. Warning: ridiculously dark and at times gory.
Third is my WIP, original Link and Zelda again, both quite different at first glance than the incarnations from the games: Link is a black non Hylian, Zelda looks the part but some people still think she’s not a Princess because she’s transgender. The enemy has not been revealed yet.
Is it too hard to ask for a zelda fanfic that is not about any of the games, like an original story. I read one that was like this, but it impresses me how hard it is to find

Elves: Language/s
Link: Disclaimer regarding D&D "canon" & Index[tldr: D&D lore is a giant conflicting mess. Larian's lore is also a conflicting mess. There's a lot of lore; I don't know everything. You learn to take what you want and leave the rest. Frankly these posts may get updated now and then. etc]
Physiology and quirks | Names & Clans and Houses || Pan-Cultural things: Social life | Time and 'Growing Up an Elf' | Homes | Language | Art | Entertainment | Technology || Elven 'Subraces' still a wip || Philosophy and Religion & Pantheons || Half-elves | [WIP]
I have a weak spot for fictional languages and a compulsive need to poke them with a stick and babble about it. It was this or get sucked into trying to build actual headcanoned conlangs out of this nonsense. So.
If your character has elven on their character sheet: no they don't, the elves are just humouring you. No PCs actually learned this istg.
'Are you still putting off that elven subrace post?' YES.
The 'Elvish' you put on your character sheet as a language proficiency - or Lalur ('the Singing') in Elvish - is actually a pidgin tongue akin to Common, a 'simple' trade tongue that allows elves from various backgrounds to communicate. Elven languages tend to be varied, sometimes to an extreme extent. Drowic altered rapidly due to adapting to Underdark survival and meddling from the church of Lolth, and each drow city has a different dialect; and the Lythari dialect is utterly unlike any other.
As per the advice in Drow of the Underdark (1e), it's a perfectly valid choice to simply cherry pick words from canon glossaries and invent your own elven languages and dialects.
'Standard' Elven seems to look like this: 'Ai armiel telere maenen hir.' 'Qu’kiir vian ivae, qu’kiir nethmet. Ivae marat vand Cormanthor. Mythal selen mhaor kenet. Qu’kiir vand tir t’nor' Very big on diphthongs and ' .
Menzoberranzan Drowic looks like this: 'Khaless nau uss mzild taga dosstan.' 'Kyorl jal bauth, kyone, lueth lil Quarvalsharess xal belbau dos lil belbol del elandar dro.' They like their hard double consonants along with their dipthongs.
And the Lythari dialect looks like this: 'Na kwast wahir athu kyene wekht unarihe.' Seem to be a lot of 'clipped' sounds.
Put a moon elf a drow and an elven lycanthrope in the same room and tell them they have to use their mother tongue and they're not going to get anything done. A fluent speaker of the standard surface elven can make out about 14% of drowic by linguistic overlap, but nothing more, and such applies to other elves: a group of green elves and a migration of aquatic elves that encountered each other once had to spend time breaking down language barriers to talk to each other.
Usually the structure of elven languages flows like English, because the writers aren't actually making a genuine conlang. And then sometimes it really doesn't which makes trying to mine vocabulary and grammar annoying.
As well as spoken languages for daily communication, there are complicated mystical formal languages like Seldruin and 'High Drow' which is used by powerful spellcasters (High Mages and High Priestesses of Lolth respectively).
Elves also utilise alternate forms of communication like sign language and a sort of braille on a regular basis, even if abled. Drow are most known for their use of sign language (its lack of verbal component in particular is useful in the open Underdark, where making a noise is extremely likely to guarantee your death) but surface elves also use it, and use of 'braille' was promoted by moon elves for the sake of the visually impaired and blind, though many sighted elves also use it for secret messaging. Drow in particular make use of it for that, but they're hardly alone.
The alphabet elves use to write in Elven and Common is espruar, created by moon elves and adopted by other elven people (likely due to the amount of wandering and mixing the early moon elves got up to, pre-Crown Wars).
Comes in two variants, the latter of which is the most usually seen:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's also an older variant of pictograms used by early elves that were 'predecessors' of the Thorass alphabet... which also might actually double as music instructions.
Seldruin is written in a distinct and basically extinct alphabet called Hamarfae.
Elven includes at least six grammatical tenses not found in the languages of shorter lived races to accommodate the elven understanding of time. While it hasn't come up in canon, with the Seldarine being ambiguous about gender elves should probably also have more complicated grammatical gender as well.
Just about every word in Common has about ten or more potential translations in an elvish language, each with a slightly different nuance which may be context sensitive as every word in elven appears to have several meanings within itself. Sort of like there's a word for every facet of a concept or thing, depending on what about the topic you specifically want to discuss.
Want to talk about the winter this year? Two words that will get translated into 'winter' in Common are Loress and Orth. Loress means winter as in the aspect of the season as a period of dormancy, slowing down and hibernation and winter's effect on plant life, you'd probably use it to discuss gardening and crops. Orth means winter in its aspect as a period of danger and consequences (closed roads and frostbite and death by exposure). But in common they just say 'winter.'
What you stress and how you use it will give you an entirely different sentence.
For general elven: Ar means great, Cor also means great, Selu means great.
Cor has connotations of 'grandness' and 'monarch,' carrying connotations of highest authority, and possibly a sort of peak: the highest point its possible to reach, and maybe culmination and fulfilment.
Ar also means 'sun,' probably the colour gold (since teu means silver and moon), as well as connotations of a high rank and the responsibility of guardianship and/or guidance judging by the title 'Arakhor' (ar + akh (duty-need) + or (woods) - the tree guardian, grandfather tree, the one who protects the woods)
(Thus gold elves, the Ar'Tel'Quessir have a name that communicates that they are the people of the sun (by golden appearance and affiliation with Labelas Enoreth), the 'highest' of the People, and they are those with a duty to look after the elven people and their ways.)
Not sure about selu, it places an emphasis on a translation into 'high' and it mostly crops up in connotations of High Magic. Usually gets contracted to sel, like 'Seldarine.'
And then, by changing the stressed syllable, a word has a different meaning.
For example 'Cormanthor,' 'Cormanthor,' and 'Cormanthor' are three different words!
Combining Cor = 'Grand/great ' + Manth = 'Promise/vow,' apparently with connotations of hoping/having faith in the promised outcome + Or = 'Wood,' 'place,' probably also 'copper'
Cormanthor means 'the King's Vow Forest.' Referring to the forest of Cormanthor.
Cormanthor means 'Place of Great Promise.' Referring to the capital city of Myth Drannor, Cormanthor.
Cormanthor means 'Ruler of the Forest True,' and 'King of the Oathlands,' was the green elven title for the coronal (king) of Cormanthor. Apparently when stress is taken of manth and or they combine meanings to get 'faithful-wood/land' or 'oathland'
And then there's 'Cormanthyr' which is a different word altogether whose nuance can be translated as 'the Fulfilment of Promise' and 'Culmination of Hope and Faith' simultaneously.
Also sometimes seems like nouns double as adjectives.
Theur means 'shield' and 'unbreakable,' 'unyielding.'
Aegan means 'physical strength' and 'strong.'
Plurals are just come in so many variants.
Vel -> Vael Sig -> Sige Or -> Ora Athil -> Athila Quess -> Quessir

Sketches of Thalamhan's titan, I still don't have a name for her but I really like @ezra-iolite's suggestions of Gormlaith, Sidhe, or Danu/Athu. I might go off one of those...
The titan is regal and imposing in appearance, and is inspired by the cicada. Thalamites revere her as an immortal queen, and the cityspeaker as an extension of her will. Since she's mute, the speaker is required to serve as her mouthpiece.

Lord Elias Koskinen's knight, the Pavise Atheus, is finally done! the only thing i really wish i had done differently is placing the battlefield debris less to the centre, but eh, nothing to be done about that now. really heppy with how that rusting effect turned out too, i want an excuse to make more shit rusty now
The Kostinen house had five nights, and six children, the youngest of whom was Elias. He was a backup, in case something happened the one of the others, and his parents did not bother to keep this a secret from him. The fifth child, Tuuli, was the only one who would treat him as family, and as such, earned his undying loyalty. He would serve his house, as was proper, but the rest of them would always come second to Tuuli. When he became of age, Elias enlisted in the PDF as a tank commander, and proved excellent for the job, able to predict his foes movements seemingly even before they knew they would make them, even going so far as to aim and fire his leman russ's main gun himself, accomplishing feats of marksmanship that were thought to be impossible. The rest of his family did not care. Only Helmi was impressed.
Where traitorous forces invaded their home, Elias led his tank company valiantly, supporting Helmi. However, they were no match for their foes sheer numbers, and over a period of weeks, attrition forced them back, until Elias, Tuuli in Pavise Atheus, and a quartet of armigers remained, trapped in Pavise Atheus's hanger. A traitor knight banged incessantly on the gate. It would take a day to break through, but none in the hanger had any doubt that it would break through. Under Helmi's direction, Elias and the armiger retainers worked to rearm Pavise Atheus, until Elias was called to the cockpit. There he found his sister, the only family he really cared for, skin pealing red like it had been cooked, and bleeding from every orifice her face had. She had pushed herself too hard, and was now paying the price. They exchanged some brief words, and then Helmi expired. With a heavy heart, Elias heaved her out of the cockpit and laid her to rest on the gantry, before climbing into the throne and beginning the arduous process taking control of Pavise Athues. Helmi helped, her soul still inhabiting the machine, easing the process, and guiding Elias as he burst through the hanger gate, surprising the traitor knight, and holding his own until the astra millitarum forces they had been promised weeks ago finally arrived.
in the current day, Elias still has two of the armigers with him as he sells his services as a freeblade, and has even found love in the form of the bloodthirsty and battle maddened Tullia Koskinen and her own knight, Vainglory’s Scourge, her close quarters combat style helping to balance his own long ranged style. Helmi still resurfaces from time to time to offer advice to Elias, or to tease him over his awkward courting by Tullia

ATHU Extra 1: Link’s Love Life as Seen by Mindo and Geeve
Reminder: Mindo and Geeve are villagers in Given, about the same age as Link. Mindo had a crush on Link for a while but Link wasn’t interested and turned him down. He’s now dating Geeve, a rancher currently attempting to raise Chu Chus.
The guard who’d been standing just outside the Chu Chu enclosure had been staring for a while now. Geeve put down the Chu Chu she’d been examining and turned to him, scowling.
“What?” she asked. “I already explained to three of you guys that I got the TBs handled!”
“Sorry,” the guard said. “It’s not the Chu chus, or whatever you’re calling them. I’m off duty right now, actually.”
Geeve raised an eyebrow. She hoped the guy wasn’t hitting on her, Mindo would NEVER shut up about it if it turned out his girlfriend was making strangers’ heads turn.
“You’re about the same age as him, right?” the guard asked.
Geeve titled her head. “As who?” she asked. “My boyfriend?”
“Which would be me!” Mindo’s voice came ringing from towards the house. “The one bringing out a nice lemonade just for the nice lady!”
The guard rubbed the back of his head. “No, I mean... err... the... L... Link. You’re about the same age, so you know him, right? It’s a small village.”
“Of course I know him,” Geeve said. “His Mom was the school teacher back when we were kids too.”
She wasn’t stupid, she knew where this was going: the guards mostly didn’t talk about it, but they weren’t completely discrete: everyone in the village was aware that the Hylian Guards stationed in Given since the attack had figured out Link was the Hero. Killing hundreds of monsters on his own before those same guards could get here from the Akkala Fortress had kind of let that cat out of the bag.
So, it was pretty easy to guess that this guy wanted some details on the Hero. She didn’t mind saying stuff that didn’t matter, but it’d be way more fun if she made him work for it.
“What about Link?” Mindo asked as he drew near them. As promised, he handed Geeve a glass of lemonade.
The guard squirmed. “I... I heard he’s one of the ones who fought the monsters,” he said. “But he er... took off now?”
Geeve smirked. “Did he?” she asked. “Fight the monsters, I mean? Huh.”
“He shouldn’t be at that with that pretty face,” Mindo added.
“Min, did you just call your old crush pretty right in front of your girlfriend?” Geeve asked.
“What?” Mindo said, shrugging. “He IS.”
Geeve seemed to consider for a moment, then shrugged. “I guess,” she said. “If you like them all tense and fidgety.”
“Er,” the guard said.
“Hm?” Geeve said. “Oh, sorry. What were you asking?”
“I... I was wondering... if...” he sighed. “Look, what’s it going to take for you to stop playing dumb?”
She barked a laugh before pointedly pouting. “You’re no fun. Fine. What did you want to know about our completely ordinary ball of stress called Link?”
“You said he was your crush?” the guard asked, turning to Mindo.
“He was, yeah,” Mindo replied with a shrug. “Like I said, he’s cute.”
“I’m pretty sure he’s in a rush even when he’s asleep,” Geeve said, frowning at her boyfriend. “AND he’s bossy.”
“Only because he’s over protective,” Mindo said. He smirked. “Don’t be jealous, I think you’re even cuter.”
“I’m not jealous,” Geeve said. “I’m just saying. I like him, he’s sweet, but he’s a ball of stress that just wants to bounce all over the place all the time, and he’s bossy because he got it into his head that he has to protect us from ourselves.  I mean, he’s got a really good reason for the stress, but still.”
“Did he... like you back?” the guard asked Mindo.
Mindo snorted. “No. Total and immediate rejection. My Dad is still mad about it.”
“Yeah but he rejects everyone,” Geeve said. “You thought you had a chance because you figured he wasn’t interested in girls after he turned down a bunch of them. It wasn’t personal. Your Dad’s just being a creep.”
“Yeah,” Mindo said. “And it’s the same with anyone who tried after me, guy OR girl. I think he’s just focusing too much on his job.”
“So he’s not attached?” the guard said.
“Definitely not. Why? You want to be rejected too?” Mindo asked with a smirk. “It’s a big club, but there aren’t any actual benefits or anything.”
“It’s not that, it’s just... ok, look, there’s a betting pool on the go about whether or not he’s going to fall for the Princess. I’m... trying to... well...”
“You’re trying to cheat by getting exclusive information on his love prospects,” Geeve said. She barked a laugh and slapped her own thigh.
The guard flushed a dark pink. “It’s not cheating, it’s research!”
“Sure,” Geeve said, grinning. “Well look, the thing is, he’s not attached but at the rate he’s going, I’d put my money on his NEVER getting hooked. We all figured he must like guys a while back because he wanted nothing to do with the girls, but he wants nothing to do with the guys either, so…” she shrugged.
“He probably just doesn’t want to let himself get distracted right now,” Mindo said.
“Yeah, that might be it,” Geeve said. “Anyway, sorry Mr Guard. Can’t help you ch… research.”
The guard scratched his head. “You know what? You did help. Reminded me that gambling’s stupid and I can just pass. Good luck with your blobs.”
