Isabel Diaz should move back to L.A. (Eddie’s abuela)
Thinking back to season 5 (regarding how everything was handled to give Taylor Kelly more screen time than the mains 🧐), apparently it was KR's wacky idea to move Eddie’s abuela, Isabel Diaz back to El Paso (which didn't make a lick of sense because Tia Pepa has that big house that she lives in alone therefore, she could have moved in with her). But she moved Eddie’s abuela away so she could live with Ramon and Helena🙄 and I always believed it was suspicious and was done for reasons that didn't make any narrative sense.
I posted about how the Diaz women don't really get along with Eddie's mom (linked here) which is why it didn't make logical sense for her to be gone and the audience didn't find out about it until Eddie, Chris and Pepa went to Ramon's retirement party in 5x17. We hadn't seen her since Eddie’s welcome home party in 4x14 after the shooting but Taylor sure was shoehorned in. Now that we know more about the shooting and what was supposed to happen between Buck and Eddie, it makes things even more convoluted than before.
In season 7, just like Shannon, it appears TM brought her back and it seems she might be there for both Eddie's and Chris' benefit (hopefully, Eddie and Marisol will be toast while Isabel is there).
Can Isabel please move back to L.A. so Eddie and Chris will have more family there? Reminder, Eddie and Chris have the largest biological family out of every main character (excluding Bobby since we haven't seen any of his biological family, only his deceased wife and kids). Athena is an only child and so is Hen. Buck and Maddie don't seem to have any aunts, uncles or cousins and Chimney only has a half brother. Bobby mentioned he has brothers but KR never included any more information about them in the show.
Hopefully, Isabel will be back in L.A. for good. She loves Eddie and Chris so much and I miss Eddie spending time with her.

Damn. This is 255 sentences. I am not sure we have that many left in the chapter. We shall see!
---
“Hey, no. Don’t worry.” Buck tries to reassure him. “We don’t keep recordings. No cloud. I’m the only one who saw.”
Eddie swallows. “Uh, thanks.”
Buck nods. “You okay?”
“Oh, yeah. Yeah, I’ll be fine.” Eddie waves him off.
“Seriously, I’ve got hours I still have to be awake if you want to talk,” Buck shrugs.
“You don’t need to hear my shit,” Eddie replies.
Buck frowns. “You saved my sister’s life and brought her the rest of the way here. If you need to read me a telephone book, I’ll sit and listen.”
Eddie tilts his head a little, confused. “Why would I need to do that? Phones don’t work.”
Buck chuckles. “It’s just an example! Listen, man, I’ve got to get back to the cams. But if you need to talk, I’ll just be sitting there, looking at screens.”
Eddie sighs. “Can I maybe ask you a few questions about this place?”
Well… That’s not exactly what Buck meant. But sure. He doesn’t see the harm in it.
“Sure,” Buck says. He starts walking back towards the cam room and motions for Eddie to follow him. Eddie does. “What do you want to know?”
It takes Eddie a moment to reply.
“Everyone seems really nice.”
“Uh, yeah,” Buck says. “I’d say we are. I mean, I don’t know Athena or her kids. But the rest of them like her so I guess she is, too.”
“And uh…” Eddie asks as they approach the cam room door. “And, the kids here…”
Buck pauses. This is a weird direction.
“The kids?” He asks, then opens the door.
“Yeah, uh… What’s it like for them, living here?” Eddie asks.
“Oh,” Buck replies.
He crosses the cam room and sits in a rolling computer chair. He motions Eddie towards the spare chair. Eddie takes a hesitant seat.
“Well,” Buck answers. “Denny was the only kid here until this morning. So, maybe that was lonely for him in a way. But he’s safe, you know? He gets to be a kid.”
Eddie nods. “He’s the same age as my son.”
“Oh yeah? Seven?”
“Yeah. 2011.”
“It’s a cool age,” Buck says. “Denny’s hilarious. He’s got so many big thoughts and opinions. Bosses me around.”
Eddie smiles. “He seemed really happy. Not… I mean, he didn’t seem scared.”
“Nah, he doesn’t have a reason to be, most days,” Buck explains. “We all look out for each other, here. He has fun, he helps out. Hell, he was out in the water with me this morning, pulling up fishing nets.”
“Wow,” Eddie exhales. “That’s awesome. I mean, no kid wants to grow up in an apocalypse, but… But he has a good life.”
Buck smiles. He likes the idea that, even in some small way, he’s contributed to that.
“Yeah, I think he does.”
“Bobby is, like, your leader?” Eddie asks.
“More or less,” Buck nods. “Bobby, Hen, Chimney, and I were firefighters at the same station together, before the end. Bobby was our captain. Guess that authority carried over.”
“Firefighters? No way.” Eddie smiles, a little ruefully. “I was going to be a firefighter. I’d gotten in with the LAFD and everything.”
“Hey, that’s very cool,” Buck says. “LAFD?”
Eddie nods. “Was going to move from Texas and everything.”
“Wow,” Buck says. “Well you made it to California anyway.”
“Yeah,” Eddie exhales. “Guess I did.”
“Maddie says you’re looking for your wife?” Buck prompts. He doesn’t know why he asks. It’s none of his business, really. He just finds himself curious about this man who saved his sister and cried in the dark and asked if the kids here lived happy lives.
Eddie doesn’t respond for a second. Like he’s deciding whether or not to give Buck his story. Then, he sighs.
“Yeah,” he says. “Shannon. We were separated. She was caring for her mother in L.A.”
“And you gotta know?” Buck guesses.
“Yeah,” Eddie replies. “I gotta know. And… You know… That’s my kid’s mom, so I owe it to him and her to try.”
“Right,” Buck says. “I understand. Or, I don’t, because I… Well, I’m not a parent or a husband. But it makes sense to me.”
And that’s the truth. Buck would absolutely make the same call. Hell, how many days has he wanted to go searching for Abby? How many days could he hardly resist? And that’s mostly because he needed Maddie to be able to find him. Buck and Abby didn’t even have any of those shared bonds. Thinking back, Buck’s not sure how much Abby even really liked him. But he still would have looked for her.
“Thanks,” Eddie mutters. He takes another deep breath. “I worry, though. For my son’s safety. And his mind, honestly. Out on the road like that all the time.”
All at once, Buck thinks he understands what Eddie was crying about, out there.
“You’re thinking of leaving him here,” Buck guesses.
“Not forever,” Eddie says quietly. “Just until I find his mom. Or…”
Or he doesn’t find his mom.
Right. That’s also an option.
“Wow,” Buck exhales.
“I thought maybe Maddie… I know I don’t know her well…” Eddie trails off. “She’s kind. She’s good with him. She was looking for you, so she understands.”
Maddie would say yes. Buck might not have seen her for half a decade, but he knows she’d say yes.
“She raised me,” Buck tells him. “More or less. So you could do a hell of a lot worse.”
Eddie smiles faintly. “That’s good to know. Thank you.”
Buck nods.
“I should get back to bed,” Eddie says. “I don’t want Chris to wake up without me and be scared.”
They’ve set up all their guests on cots in the old gymnasium. There’s nowhere else cleared out for sleeping at the moment.
“Okay,” Buck nods. “Hope you can get some sleep, man. You’ve had a day.”
Eddie nods mildly, like that doesn’t even begin to cover it.
He stands, stretches a little, and heads for the door, but pauses before actually leaving. He looks back over his shoulder at Buck.
“I can see why she crossed the continent for you at the end of the world,” Eddie says.
Then he’s gone before Buck can even gather his gobsmacked thoughts enough to reply. No one has ever said anything like that to him before.
September 4th, 2018
Bobby calls a meeting before Maddie even wakes up the next morning. Seven o’clock, bright and early. Athena has volunteered for a cam shift so they can all talk.
“Discuss our future,” is how Bobby puts it.
Buck isn’t really sure what that means.
What that means, apparently, is their whole original 118 group - minus Denny - gathers outside, by the gardens, to talk about the six visitors inside. Buck isn’t entirely sure what there is to discuss. People need help and a place to stay, you help them. Especially when one of those people is his sister. But apparently this is a democracy. For everything but radios.
“I want everyone to have a say,” Bobby explains. “Our unit has operated very well so far, and I value everyone’s opinions. I don’t want to make assumptions about anyone’s comfort levels.”
“Are you saying you’d turn Maddie away?” Buck demands. “If someone wasn’t comfortable?”
“That’s not what I’m saying, Buck,” Bobby sighs. “I’m saying everyone gets to be heard.”
“Obviously we aren’t turning away Maddie,” Chim says.
Everyone looks at him. Chim and Maddie met for like fifteen minutes last night when he checked on her ribs. He sounds rather convicted for fifteen minutes, but Buck isn’t going to question someone agreeing with him.
“Because she’s a nurse!” Chim adds. “That’s such a useful skill.”
“Right,” Hen says. “Okay, Chimney.”
Buck doesn’t get it.
“I don’t want to turn away Maddie, either,” Karen says. “Or Athena and her kids. We know them. We trust them. They need somewhere safe.”
“I agree,” Hen says. “Has Athena asked to stay?”
“At least until May is well,” Bobby replies.
“If you all trust Athena, th-then I trust Athena,” Buck adds, hoping they will all extend this same logic to Maddie.
“What about the other two?” Bobby asks.
“Eddie and his son?” Buck asks.
“Them, we don’t know,” Chim points out.
“But Eddie won’t be staying,” Buck says. “He has to look for his wife.”
He doesn’t mention anything about Christopher. It doesn’t seem right to share, until Eddie has officially decided. Buck wouldn’t want that spread around, if it were him.
“But he knows where we are now,” Bobby says. “He could come back. He could tell people.”
“Well, what are we gonna do, Bobby? Kill the guy?” Chim asks.
Buck’s eyes nearly bulge out of his head.
“That’s not what I’m saying,” Bobby sighs. “Obviously. I’m saying it’s a consideration. All I want is to keep us all safe.”
“He’s not going to do anything bad,” Buck says confidently. “Maddie vouches for him.”
“How long has Maddie known him?” Karen asks sincerely.
Buck hangs his head. “Two days.”
“Okay, so not a great vote of confidence,” Karen replies.
“Yeah, but I trust Maddie!” Buck insists. The next thought in his head is and Eddie has a really nice face! But he doesn’t share that.
“Bobby, I think we need more information before we make any conclusive decisions,” Hen says. “The only person we know wants to be here for more than a couple nights is Maddie. And I think we’re all clear on not sending away Buck’s sister.”

"The wonderful world of high school drama." Buck&May friendship!
read on ao3
When the front door slammed shut, Buck wasn’t sure who he was expecting to appear in the Grant home he was visiting. It wasn’t like Bobby to make such an entrance and Athena, while temperamental, wasn’t particularly one to let her anger show unless tragedy had struck. As far as Buck knew, the only tragedy Athena had lately was her mother visiting.
Before he had the time to come up with tragic situations to stress him out, May stomped down the stairs, tossed her backpack onto the floor, and threw herself onto the couch. She pressed her face into one of the decorative pillows and Buck heard her scream even through the thick fabric and fluff.
He glanced around the kitchen awkwardly, unsure if he should say something so that May knew he was there or continue to watch her kick her feet and pound her fists against the couch cushions so she could presumably get whatever had angered her out. He chose the latter when she sighed heavily and sniffled, a clear indication that tears were on the horizon.
“Uh, May? Are you—” Before he could finish his question, May lept up from the couch, clutching at the pillow she had been screaming into like a weapon. “Sorry, sorry,” Buck repeated, holding his hands up in defense, “I wasn’t sure if you knew I was here.”
“Mom said you might be but I forgot,” May explained. She dropped the pillow back onto the couch behind her and smiled sheepishly over at Buck. “But I’m here now so I’ve got Harry until my mom gets home.”
Buck nodded and stood up, grabbing his coat that hung from behind his chair. When he glanced back over to say goodbye to May, she was avoiding eye contact but Buck could still see the red rims of her eyes and the gloss of emotion that coated them.
“Do you— I’m here, you know, if you ever need to talk,” Buck said taking a few cautious steps forward. “I know I’m not quite your friend but I’ve, uh, been through a lot of shit so I can always lend an ear if you want.”
May shook her head and said, “It’s nothing, really. Just— These girls at school who seem to love spreading rumors about the cop’s daughter.”
“Ah,” Buck nodded, “the wonderful world of high school drama."
“Yeah, that.” May let out a wet laugh and covered her face with her hands. Buck saw the first tear fall before she could truly hide, though. On instinct, he moved closer, sitting beside her on the couch and placing a tentative hand on her shoulder. The touch seemed to do exactly the opposite of what Buck wanted as May burst into tears.
“Hey, hey, hey,” Buck cooed, pulling her closer and maneuvering her face into his shoulder to catch the tears. “I’m sorry, May, I didn’t mean to—”
“You didn’t do anything wrong, Buck. I’m sorry, I’m just— No one ever prepared me for how mean teenage girls can be,” May said through her sobs.
“Don’t I know it,” Buck agreed. At May’s questioning look, Buck sent her a small smile. “It wasn’t that long ago that I was a teenager, May,” he explained.
“Well, you weren’t a girl,” May retorted.
Buck bit down on his lip and simply stared at the girl beside him. He knew he had two choices; try to sympathize with her as an adult man and probably get nowhere, or tell her the truth. He had barely told anyone in L.A. about his past but there was something in May’s tear-filled eyes that told Buck he could trust her.
“I was, back then.” May’s eyes widened and she tilted her head in question, but Buck didn’t see any judgment in her eyes. “I’m, uh, trans—transgender. When I was your age, I was still presenting as female and only my best friends and my sister knew who I really was. So, yeah,” Buck hesitated, “I know what you’re going through more than, well, most.”
“I didn’t know,” May whispered after a few moments of silence. Buck nodded, unsure of what else to say. Apparently, he didn’t have to say anything. “There’s this girl, Tiffany. She told the entire school that since my dad is gay now, that must mean my mom is a lesbian. They… insinuated that means I am, too.” May glanced up at Buck quickly and elaborated, “Not that I have any problem with it or anything, I just—”
“Don’t worry, May,” Buck reassured, squeezing her shoulder gently, “I know you’re not that kind of person. But still, it sucks when rumors are spread about you that don’t have any truth to them.”
“That’s not it…” May admitted, veering her attention to the coffee table and biting down on her own lip. “I, uh, I don’t know what I am but… I told Tiffany that I wanted to kiss her. She told the entire school.”
“And do you?” Buck asked, leaning his head forward to try and grab May’s attention again. “Do you want to kiss her?”
May scoffed, “Not after she told the entire school. I don’t even know what to say when people ask if I’m— gay. I don’t know and I have too much on my plate to think about it.”
“You don’t have to explain yourself to anyone, May. For the longest time, people suspected that I was gay.”
May sent him a look and clearly stated, “Aren’t you?”
“I’m— something. I’m trans, that much I am sure of. I knew when I was pretending to be a girl that I wasn’t and others used that as fuel to add to the fire underneath me. I wore baggy t-shirts and I was accused of hiding my boobs, I wore gym shorts and was accused of hiding a— well, you know.” May laughed and Buck was glad to hear it. “I was into women but I wasn’t gay because I wasn’t a girl. I was into guys but I wasn’t straight because I was born a girl. There wasn’t much verbiage for it when I was your age,” Buck explained.
“Bisexual. Or— pansexual,” May provided with a soft smile.
“I personally like queer but that’s all it is—a personal part of you. You don’t owe anyone an explanation or some big coming out because you wanted to kiss the wrong girl. I kissed a lot of wrong people before—” Buck blushed and averted his eyes but the damage was already done. May eyed him suspiciously and just when he thought she would pry, she sighed instead.
“I know I don’t owe it to them, but I kind of feel like I owe it to myself,” May decided. “I’m— not straight but not labeled.”
“That’s enough of an explanation for me,” Buck said. May smiled up at him before wrapping her arms around him and pressing her face into the crook of his neck. “Are you gonna be okay?”
“Yeah,” May said softly, “I think I will be. It’s nice, you know? Having people around me to talk to who actually understand. I’m glad that you’re around.” Buck’s heart absolutely melted.
“Yeah, well, I’m glad I’m around, too,” Buck said.
And for the first time in his life, he really meant it.

BOBBY NASH
Life as Cap's Daughter
Requested: yes
Author's note: I got a little carried away, but I wanted to DELIVER FROM POINT A (LOWEST) TO POINT B (BEST) PART OF HIS LIFE. Kept it realistic as possible plus it’s very long SO BEWARE
P.S. you can kind of see how my love for the man just SPILLED ... aka I kind of lost it and just hammered the numbers. It shows how unexperienced I am at these <3
Requests for 9-1-1 are OPEN
Headcanon
Bobby had you before Marcy and Athena were a part of his life
You were his little everything
The food he fed you growing up…
You would tell people that your dad's a chef, and not a firefighter
You thought a chef was a better job! You were four…
With your mom out of the picture it was just you and your dad for a big part of your childhood
He baby proofed the entire house
Balled his eyes out when he walked you to school for the very first time
When he met Marcy you were roughly around 8, but the two of you got along very well right off the bat
Even though he's a quiet, withdrawn man that likes to keep to himself, you were the one who brought out his witty side
He was very proud when you showed an interest in ice skating, it quickly became 'your thing' and Bobby loved that you inherited that from him
He's at all of your performances!
He catches you every time no matter the situation
You loved Robert Jr. and Brook very much too, considering them your siblings without a doubt
You helped change their diapers, practically raised them with Marcy and your dad
Family dinners with Bobby's marvelous cooking – a must!
Bobby was very overprotective when you entered your teen years so thank god for Marcy (she was a saint)
He'd invite your date over and drill him while eating the nicest foods he prepared with extra caution
"Dad, that was a bit too much…"
"You think? I didn't even get to scratch the surface."
"Okay, honey, let her go have fun."
Marcy and the kids were there for you when your dad started to go south because of his injury
"Dad where are you going?"
"I'll be back soon. Don't worry about me."
For a moment you considered if life with him was even worth it
Wanting to finish high school as soon as possible just so you could get away from his lies was your darkest thought
But he is your father, and no one could change that
The fire though... It was the most heartbreaking moment of your life
You were out, so you weren't on the scene
But you wished you were at some point
You couldn't look at him after that
Went through the roughest time of your life
It felt like you jumped through time because you two were alone again
But that made you treasure each other more than anything
You watched him at his lowest and supported him when he started to get better
"Dad, please don't give up."
I don't think Bobby would be able to get through the trauma if it weren't for you
Not even his notebook was enough to keep him together – you were the glue
That's why making a fresh start in L.A. felt great
You two settled quickly; you giving in more effort than he did at first
Because you're smart like your father you got into a very very very good college in L.A.
"At least something's working out for once."
"Hey don't say that."
"But dad... It's true!"
When he told you, he was in station 118 you stalked researched them
Found out the address, looked at the place from outside using Google Street View
That kinda thing
"But dad. I'm just looking out for you!"
"I know. Thank you for that."
There's a lot of buts
But dad this but daaaad that
You're very annoying when you want to be
The two of you lived together, since you didn't trust him enough to move out and live on campus
He didn't bring you to the firehouse until he was 100% sure
No scratch that: until he was 100000% sure, you weren't stepping foot on the grounds of that station
When you did meet them, you loved Hen instantly
You wanted to come back just for her
Chimney was a bit awkward
He didn't know how to act around you
You were 18 but since you were Cap's daughter he didn't know if he had to treat you like you were 8 or not
Hen didn't have that problem obviously
She was so easy going you loved her instantly
Bobby has eyes everywhere when you're at the station
MEETING BUCK WAS HORRIBLE
Your dad was breathing down on your neck when you came to the firehouse one day and Buck 1.0 was working there (just started)
HE HIT ON YOU IT WAS HORRIBLE YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO
Neither did he once he found out
That was the day Bobby fired him bc he did the nasty with that lady in the firetruck
You came by like, "Hi, I'm Y/N nice to meet you Evan."
And then suddenly you had to go like, "Bye Ev- Buck… It was nice knowing you."
Buck went home that day – pride demolished
"Did you really have to do that dad?"
"I said three strikes, and he's out. He didn't listen."
Why didn't you come earlier? Surely you could have given Buck some great tips
"Oh, well."
Buck came back!
You became friends after that. Had a teasing relationship, never looked at each other the other way after that day
Y/N + Buck = BFF
You'd joke about your first tragic meeting and you’d go out with him when he was going through a dark time because of Abby
You didn’t drink, he did
Everyone loves you OBVIOUSLY
You're Cap's daughter I MEAN WHAT IS THERE TO SAY?
Eddie came too! Eventually.
You fell in love with him instantly
But you love his son even more than him
You'd take care of him whenever you had time and Eddie was busy working
You learned more facts about the world from little Christopher than from your own father
You often came by to eat lunch at the station because that's where your dad ‘the cook’ was
Maddie and you hit it off very well and became close friends
NOW MEETING ATHENA FOR THE FIRST TIME…
Your mouth was on the floor
She was so goddess like you were smitten by her
So, your dad and her announcing their relationship to you wasn't a surprise
You and Hen won the bet
Became close with May and Harry too although it was hard not to picture them as Brook and Robert at first
After your dad and Athena got married you finally felt as if you could breathe
Knowing that your dad was safe and sound, you moved over to campus but still had your own room at Athena's place
You go there every weekend
You're essential to the party planning
Even though you're a perfect little young adult you're ready to pull out the "My step-mom's a sergeant" card
A huge party was thrown for your 21st birthday
I'm talking BIG BIG BIG
Buck and you got drunk
Your dad got drunk too
Life turned around for the better although some pieces of past tragedies still lingered
You've let go of people but you and your dad also grew and healed enough to let new people into your lives
No one knows what life has in store for you two, but you both know it will be good
As long as you have each other
He's your pillar, and you are his in return, that's how it's always been
"I love you dad."
"I love you too kiddo."

I’ve been thinking about episode names again recently (thanks May Day and Hero Complex) and finally thought I’d write a little about the topic, more specifically of how the names of the first episodes of a season seem to fit stuff that happens in the final episode of that season as well. I don’t know if someone has already talked about this before but here goes:
Season 1 doesn’t work quite as well here, because the first episode is simply called Pilot, but if we look at the first episode of the season which has a “proper” name then we have 1x02 Let Go, which is what I’ll be looking into here.
Now, in 1x10 we have a couple instances where the Let Go title could also work. The episode opens at Abby’s mom’s funeral, and we get to see the aftermath of her passing. In a sense, this episode is Abby “letting go” of her mom and the life she has in L.A. (sidenote: Abby’s mom died of a pulmonary embolism?? I never caught that before. Interesting. But I digress). Abby also let go of Buck to some degree at the end of the episode as she left (this is a little debatable as she may have thought she would come back eventually but I would argue that at least some part of her let Buck go at the airport).
Then later on we have Athena having to “let go” of May and Harry as they’re going to be spending time (and the night) at Michael’s new place. Then the episode ends with Athena going out with Bobby for the first time which could be seen as her letting go of the family unit that she had with Michael and the kids in order to build a family again but one that looks a little different than what she envisioned when marrying Michael.
So, in this way we have the start of the season bookending with the end of the season (I love it when shows/books/whatever do this, it’s always so delicious), which also seems to happen in the other seasons as well. (Can y’all guess where I’m going with this already?)
Moving on to season 2 and 2x01 which is called Under Pressure. Then in 2x18 we have the package bombs that have a lot of people “under pressure” to figure out who’s sending them and there’s also the threat of where will a bomb go off next. This of course leads to Buck’s leg being crushed under the pressure of the ladder truck.
Then there’s the Diaz parents of it all aka Ramon and Helena putting Eddie under pressure to go back to El Paso now that Shannon has passed and he’s a single parent again. (Sidenote again: Ramon saying “you could choose another one [life]” to our repressed king Eddie? yeah this hurts).
Then in season 3 we have 3x01 Kids Today. This is probably the flimsiest of these but, eh, whatever. Of course, in 3x18 we have the whole “is Christopher old enough to go to camp” discussion which has Bobby commenting that he started to go to camp when he was 8 and could read a little like “well if I could why not the kid today” (like I said, a little flimsy). Then at the end we have May’s graduation party and later we find out that Maddie’s pregnant. This could be a sort of a “one kid grows up, another is about to be born” sort of circle of life thing that includes some kids today (and tomorrow). I don’t know, this doesn’t fit quite as well as the other seasons but it’s sort of there with the focus on kids in both 3x01 and 3x18.
And finally, we have my beloved season 4 with 4x01 being called The New Abnormal. Now, 4x14 doesn’t exactly have a new abnormal in it because we don’t reach it quite yet in the episode, but it certainly puts some things into motion that bring change, namely Eddie telling Buck about the will and everything else surrounding the shooting. (One could argue that Buck knowing about the will does create a new abnormal and I think so too, I just think we see the effects of that better later on than in the episode itself.) Of course, we do have the “new abnormal” for a brief period of time when Buck stays at the Diaz house with Chris when Eddie’s in the hospital, but it doesn’t last very long so I’m not sure it counts. But the wheels for a new (ab)normal are definitely put into motions especially in regards to Buck, Eddie and Chris. Apart from the Buckley-Diazes, we also start to see the severity of Maddie’s post-partum depression in the episode as she quits her job which then leads her, Chimney and Jee into a new (ab)normal.
I think it’s really interesting how we’ve gotten these types of bookends every season in a show that loves its parallels. And I think the show is likely to continue with this (unless they want to break the pattern but I honestly don’t think it will).
So, what does this mean for season 5? I’d put good money on there being panic in some shape or form for one/some character(s) as 5x01 is called Panic if they continue with the bookends they’ve had going on pretty much the whole time. But what the panic looks like remains to be seen. Maybe we’ll get Bobby panicking over May and/or Harry on the heels of the dispatch fire? Eddie dealing with more panic attacks? Buck having a little gay panic? Something totally different? I honestly have no clue. But I think there will be something. And I can’t wait to see whatever it is.

Y/N L/N AND THE HALFBLOODS
Percy Jackson X Reader
-Y/N L/N met Percy Jackson and everything was now ruined.
CHAPTER 16: Mini Elvis
The war god was waiting for us in the diner parking lot. "Well, well," he said. "You didn't get yourself killed." "You knew it was a trap," Percy hissed. Ares gave me a wicked grin. "Bet that crippled blacksmith was surprised when he netted a couple of stupid kids. You looked good on TV." Taking the shield from Percy I shoved it at him. "You're a jerk." Annabeth and Grover caught their breath. Ares grabbed the shield and spun it in the air like pizza dough. It changed form, melting into a bulletproof vest. He slung it across his back. "See that truck over there?" He pointed to an eighteen-wheeler parked across the street from the diner. "That's your ride. Take you straight to L.A., with one stop in Vegas." The eighteen-wheeler had a sign on the back, which I could read only because it was reverse-printed white on black, a good combination for dyslexia: KINDNESS INTERNATIONAL: HUMANE ZOO TRANSPORT. WARNING: LIVE WILD ANIMALS. Percy said, "You're kidding." Ares snapped his fingers. The back door of the truck unlatched. "Free ride west, punk. Stop complaining. And here's a little something for doing the job." He slung a blue nylon backpack off his handlebars and tossed it to Percy. Inside were fresh clothes for all of us, twenty bucks in cash, a pouch full of golden drachmas, and a bag of Double Stuff Oreos. Percy said, "I don't want your lousy—" "Thank you, Lord Ares," Grover interrupted, giving him his best red-alert warning look. "Thanks a lot." I could see Percy gritting his teeth. It was probably a deadly insult to refuse something from a god, but I also didn't want anything that Ares had touched. Reluctantly, he swung the bag over his shoulder. I looked back at the diner, which had only a couple of customers now. The waitress who'd served us dinner was watching nervously out the window, like she was afraid Ares might hurt us. She dragged the fry cook out from the kitchen to see. She said something to him. He nodded, held up a little disposable camera and snapped a picture of us. Great, I thought. We'll make the papers again tomorrow.
I imagined the headline: TWELVE-YEAR-OLD OUTLAWS BEATS UP DEFENSELESS BIKER. "You owe us one more thing," Percy told Ares, trying to keep my voice level. "You promised me information about our parents." "You sure you can handle the news?" He kick-started his motorcycle. "They're not dead." The ground seemed to spin beneath me. "What do you mean?" "I mean Percy's mom was taken away from the Minotaur before she could die. She was turned into a shower of gold, right? That's metamorphosis. Not death. She's being kept. As for yours, I saw them myself. Upstairs with the big guys. Why do you think you're causing one of the biggest uproar up there? They're refusing to tell who your parent is. No matter how much cut." He smirked. "What...?" Percy and the others must've seen something as they all held me back. "What are they doing to them?" I could feel the ground shake as Percy's grip on me tighten. We'll save them... calm down. Not the hero. Us. So calm down. "Calm down Y/N." Percy whispered. The ground stopped shaking and took a deep breath. "I will make you all kneel." I said. He looked at me confusedly. Then he shrug it off then laughed, "Oh yeah? can't wait, kid." Percy gripped my shoulder. "You're pretty smug, Lord Ares, for a guy who runs from Cupid statues." Behind his sunglasses, fire glowed. I felt a hot wind in my hair. "We'll meet again, Percy Jackson. Next time you're in a fight, watch your back." He revved his Harley, then roared off down Delancy Street. Annabeth said, "That was not smart, Percy." "I don't care." "You don't want a god as your enemy. Especially not that god." "Hey, guys," Grover said. "I hate to interrupt, but ..." He pointed toward the diner. At the register, the last two customers were paying their check, two men in identical black coveralls, with a white logo on their backs that matched the one on the KINDNESS INTERNATIONAL truck. "If we're taking the zoo express," Grover said, "we need to hurry." I didn't like it, but we had no better option. Besides, I'd seen enough of Denver. We ran across the street and climbed in the back of the big rig, closing the doors behind us. The first thing that hit me was the smell. It was like the world's biggest pan of kitty litter. The trailer was dark inside until Percy uncapped Riptide. The blade cast a faint bronze light over a very sad scene. Sitting in a row of filthy metal cages were three of the most pathetic zoo animals I'd ever beheld: a zebra, a male albino lion, and some weird antelope thing I didn't know the name for. Someone had thrown the lion a sack of turnips, which he obviously didn't want to eat. The zebra and the antelope had each gotten a Styrofoam tray of hamburger meat. The zebra's mane was matted with chewing gum, like somebody had been spitting on it in their spare time. The antelope had a stupid silver birthday balloon tied to one of his horns that read OVER THE HILL! Apparently, nobody had wanted to get close enough to the lion to mess with him, but the poor thing was pacing around on soiled blankets, in a space way too small for him, panting from the stuffy heat of the trailer. He had flies buzzing around his pink eyes and his ribs showed through his white fur. "This is kindness?" Grover yelled. "Humane zoo transport?" He probably would've gone right back outside to beat up the truckers with his reed pipes, and we would've helped him, but just then the trucks engine roared to life, the trailer started shaking, and we were forced to sit down or fall down. We huddled in the corner on some mildewed feed sacks, trying to ignore the smell and the heat and the flies. Grover talked to the animals in a series of goat bleats, but they just stared at him sadly. Annabeth was in favor of breaking the cages and freeing them on the spot, but I pointed out it wouldn't do much good until the truck stopped moving. Besides, I had a feeling we might look a lot better to the lion than those turnips. I found a water jug and refilled their bowls, then Percy used Riptide to drag the mismatched food out of their cages. He gave the meat to the lion and the turnips to the zebra and the antelope. Grover calmed the antelope down, while I used my knife to cut the balloon off his horn. Annabeth wanted to cut the gum out of the zebra's mane, too, but we decided that would be too risky with the truck bumping around. We told Grover to promise the animals we'd help them more in the morning, then we settled in for night. Grover curled up on a turnip sack; Annabeth opened our bag of Double Stuff Oreos and nibbled on one halfheartedly; I tried to cheer myself up by concentrating on the fact that we were halfway to Los Angeles. Halfway to our destination. It was only June fourteenth. The solstice wasn't until the twenty-first. We could make it in plenty of time. On the other hand, I had no idea what to expect next. The gods kept toying with me. At least Hephaestus had the decency to be honest about it—he'd put up cameras and advertised me as entertainment. But even when the cameras weren't rolling, I had a feeling my quest was being watched. I was a source of amusement for the gods. And it wasn't helping knowing they're hurting my parents. Here I was risking my life for them and what are they doing? "Hey," Percy cooed, "We'll save them. No matter what. I promised you that." "Okay." Percy pulled me closer until I was resting on him. Annabeth cleared her throat. "Hey, sorry I wasn't much help back at the park... I could've helped getting you guys out... It's just..." She shuddered. "Spiders." "Because of the Arachne story," I guessed. "She got turned into a spider for challenging your mom to a weaving contest, right?" She nodded. "Arachne's children have been taking revenge on the children of Athena ever since. If there's a spider within a mile of me, it'll find me. I hate the creepy little things." "We're a team, remember?" Percy said. "Besides, Grover did the fancy flying. All we did was grab the shield." I thought he was asleep, but he mumbled from the corner, "I was pretty amazing, wasn't I?" Annabeth, Percy and I laughed. She pulled apart an Oreo, handed me and Percy a half each. "In the Iris message... did Luke really say nothing?" I munched my cookie and thought about how to answer. The conversation via rainbow had bothered me all evening. "Luke said you and he go way back. He also said Grover wouldn't fail this time. Nobody would turn into a pine tree." Percy answered. In the dim bronze light of the sword blade, it was hard to read their expressions. Grover let out a mournful bray. "I should've told you the truth from the beginning." His voice trembled. "I thought if you knew what a failure I was, you wouldn't want me along." "You were the satyr who tried to rescue Thalia, the daughter of Zeus." He nodded glumly. "And the other two half-bloods Thalia befriended, the ones who got safely to camp..." Percy looked at Annabeth. "That was you and Luke, wasn't it?" She put down her Oreo, uneaten. "Like you said, Percy, a seven-year-old half-blood wouldn't have made it very far alone. Athena guided me toward help. Thalia was twelve. Luke was fourteen. They'd both run away from home, like me. They were happy to take me with them. They were... amazing monster-fighters, even without training. We traveled north from Virginia without any real plans, fending off monsters for about two weeks before Grover found us." "I was supposed to escort Thalia to camp," he said, sniffling. "Only Thalia. I had strict orders from Chiron: don't do anything that would slow down the rescue. We knew Hades was after her, see, but I couldn't just leave Luke and Annabeth by themselves. I thought... I thought I could lead all three of them to safety. It was my fault the Kindly Ones caught up with us. I froze. I got scared on the way back to camp and took some wrong turns. If I'd just been a little quicker..." "Stop it," Annabeth said. "No one blames you. Thalia didn't blame you either." "She sacrificed herself to save us," he said miserably, "Her death was my fault. The Council of Cloven Elders said so." "Because you wouldn't leave two other half-bloods behind?" Percy said. "That's not fair." "Percy's right," Annabeth said. "I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for you, Grover. Neither would Luke. We don't care what the council says." Grover kept sniffling in the dark. "It's just my luck. I'm the lamest satyr ever, and I find the two most powerful half-bloods of the century, Thalia and Percy." "You're not lame," Annabeth insisted. "You've got more courage than any satyr I've ever met. Name one other who would dare go to the Underworld. I bet Percy is really glad you're here right now." She kicked me in the shin. "Yeah," I said, which I would've done even without the kick. "It's not luck that you found Thalia and Percy, Grover. You've got the biggest heart of any satyr ever. You're a natural searcher. That's why you'll be the one who finds Pan. I mean, you found me despite my scentlessness... is that a word?" Percy muffled a laugh. I heard a deep, satisfied sigh. I waited for Grover to say something, but his breathing only got heavier. When the sound turned to snoring, I realized he'd fallen sleep. "How does he do that?" I marveled. "I don't know," Annabeth said. "But that was really a nice thing you told him." "I meant it." We rode in silence for a few miles, bumping around on the feed sacks. The zebra munched a turnip. The lion licked the last of the hamburger meat off his lips and looked at me hopefully. Percy didn't take long to fall asleep. Annabeth rubbed her necklace like she was thinking deep, strategic thoughts. "That pine-tree bead," I said. "Is that from your first year?" She looked. She hadn't realized what she was doing. "Yeah," she said. "Every August, the counselors pick the most important event of the summer, and they paint it on that year's beads. I've got Thalia's pine tree, a Greek trireme on fire, a centaur in a prom dress—now that was a weird summer...." "And the college ring is your father's?" "That's none of your—" She stopped herself. "Yeah. Yeah, it is." "You don't have to tell me." "No... it's okay." She took a shaky breath. "My dad sent it to me folded up in a letter, two summers ago. The ring was, like, his main keepsake from Athena. He wouldn't have gotten through his doctoral program at Harvard without her.... That's a long story. Anyway, he said he wanted me to have it. He apologized for being a jerk, said he loved me and missed me. He wanted me to come home and live with him." "That doesn't sound so bad." "Yeah, well... the problem was, I believed him. I tried to go home for that school year, but my stepmom was the same as ever. She didn't want her kids put in danger by living with a freak. Monsters attacked. We argued. Monsters attacked. We argued. I didn't even make it through winter break. I called Chiron and came right back to Camp Half-Blood." She wouldn't meet my eyes. "Please. I'm not into self-inflicted pain." "You shouldn't give up," I told her. "You should write him a letter or something." "Thanks for the advice," she said coldly, "but my father's made his choice about who he wants to live with." We passed another few miles of silence. "Luke actually told me about you two coming to camp already." "Really?" She looked at me amazed. "You two must've gotten close fast." "Well, I don't know. I feel like I had to talk to Luke. Like I had to be there for him. The same with Percy." We have to be there for both "You're not wrong. I'm not sure how I'd be without your help." Percy yawned. "Yeah, I wouldn't have been able to handle him." Annabeth glared at him. I laughed, "I think you two are cute." Both of them blushed and said some excuse to disprove me. Which then turned into them showing off who's better than who. "If I'm dating anyone it'll be Y/N!" Both of them huffed and glared at each other. I shook my head and smiled. At least I've gotten new friends out of this. "So," Percy trailed off. "If the gods fight," he said, "will things line up the way they did with the Trojan War? Will it be Athena versus Poseidon?" Annabeth put her head against the backpack Ares had given us, and closed her eyes. "I don't know what my mom will do. I just know I'll fight next to you." "Why?" "Because Y/N will and whether I like it or not you're my friend, Seaweed Brain. Any more stupid questions?" "That's all Mr. Peabody." "Shut up, Droopy." I felt her rest on my shoulder and she fell asleep. "Am I that comfortable?" "Yeah," Percy laughed as he rested on my lap. I had trouble following their example, with Grover snoring and an albino lion staring hungrily at me, but eventually I closed my eyes. ~~~ I woke with a start. I was second one awake. Grover was talking to the antelope. "Morning?" "Everyone had the Y/N privilege except me?" "You fell asleep first." I stroked both Annabeth and Percy's hair, which unfortunately woke up Annabeth. "Sorry about that." "It's fine." She yawned. She brought out some Oreo and handed me one. Until the truck stopped. "They're checking the animals aren't they?" Annabeth froze. I shook Percy's shoulder. "The truck's stopped," I said. "We think they're coming to check on the animals." "Hide!" Annabeth hissed. She had it easy. She just put on her magic cap and disappeared. Grover, Percy and I had to dive behind feed sacks and hope we looked like turnips. The trailer doors creaked open. Sunlight and heat poured in. "Man!" one of the truckers said, waving his hand in front of his ugly nose. "I wish I hauled appliances." He climbed inside and poured some water from a jug into the animals' dishes. "You hot, big boy?" he asked the lion, then splashed the rest of the bucket right in the lion's face. The lion roared in indignation. "Yeah, yeah, yeah," the man said. Next to me, under the turnip sacks, Grover tensed. For a peace-loving herbivore, he looked downright murderous. The trucker threw the antelope a squashed-looking Happy Meal bag. He smirked at the zebra. "How ya doin', Stripes? Least we'll be getting rid of you this stop. You like magic shows? You're gonna love this one. They're gonna saw you in half!" The zebra, wild-eyed with fear, looked straight at us. There was a loud knock, knock, knock on the side of the trailer. The trucker inside with us yelled, "What do you want, Eddie?" A voice outside—it must've been Eddie's—shouted back, "Maurice? What'd ya say?" "What are you banging for?" Knock, knock, knock. Outside, Eddie yelled, "What banging?" Our guy Maurice rolled his eyes and went back outside, cursing at Eddie for being an idiot. A second later, Annabeth appeared next to me. She must've done the banging to get Maurice out of the trailer. She said, "This transport business can't be legal." "No kidding," Grover said. He paused, as if listening. "The lion says these guys are animal smugglers!" "We've got to free them!" Grover said. He and Annabeth both looked at Percy, waiting for his say. "Percy, open the lock." I snapped at his face. Outside, Eddie and Maurice were still yelling at each other, but I knew they'd be coming inside to torment the animals again any minute. He grabbed Riptide and slashed the lock off the zebra's cage. The zebra burst out. It turned to Percy and bowed. Grover held up his hands and said something to the zebra in goat talk, like a blessing. Just as Maurice was poking his head back inside to check out the noise, the zebra leaped over him and into the street. There was yelling and screaming and cars honking. We rushed to the doors of the trailer in time to see the zebra galloping down a wide boulevard lined with hotels and casinos and neon signs. We'd just released a zebra in Las Vegas. Maurice and Eddie ran after it, with a few policemen running after them, shouting, "Hey! You need a permit for that!" "Now would be a good time to leave," Annabeth said. "The other animals first," Grover said. I cut the locks with my knife which wasn't as easy as what Percy had done. Grover raised his hands and spoke the same goat-blessing he'd used for the zebra. "Good luck," I told the animals. The antelope and the lion burst out of their cages and went off together into the streets. Some tourists screamed. Most just backed off and took pictures, probably thinking it was some kind of stunt by one of the casinos. "Will the animals be okay?" I asked Grover. "I mean, the desert and all—" "Don't worry," he said. "I placed a satyr's sanctuary on them." "Meaning?" "Meaning they'll reach the wild safely," he said. "They'll find water, food, shade, whatever they need until they find a safe place to live." "Why can't you place a blessing like that on us?" I asked. "It only works on wild animals." "So it would only affect Percy," Annabeth reasoned. "Hey!" He protested. "Kidding," she said. "Come on. Let's get out of this filthy truck." We stumbled out into the desert afternoon. It was a hundred and ten degrees, easy, and we must've looked like deep-fried vagrants, but everybody was too interested in the wild animals to pay us much attention. We passed the Monte Carlo and the MGM. We passed pyramids, a pirate ship, and the Statue of Liberty, which was a pretty small replica, but still made me homesick. I wasn't sure what we were looking for. Maybe just a place to get out of the heat for a few minutes, find a sandwich and a glass of lemonade, make a new plan for getting west. We must have taken a wrong turn, because we found ourselves at a dead end, standing in front of the Lotus Hotel and Casino. The entrance was a huge neon flower, the petals lighting up and blinking. No one was going in or out, but the glittering chrome doors were open, spilling out air-conditioning that smelled like flowers—lotus blossom, maybe. I'd never smelled one, so I wasn't sure. The doorman smiled at us. "Hey, kids. You look tired. You want to come in and sit down?" I'd learned to be suspicious, the last week or so. I figured anybody might be a monster or a god. But my knife wasn't glowing so... I figured. Besides, I was so relieved to hear somebody who sounded sympathetic that I nodded and said we'd love to come in. Inside, we took one look around, and Grover said, "Whoa." The whole lobby was a giant game room. And I'm not talking about cheesy old Pac-Man games or slot machines. There was an indoor waterslide snaking around the glass elevator, which went straight up at least forty floors. There was a climbing wall on the side of one building, and an indoor bungee-jumping bridge. There were virtual-reality suits with working laser guns. And hundreds of video games, each one the size of a widescreen TV. Basically, you name it, this place had it. There were a few other kids playing, but not that many. No waiting for any of the games. There were waitresses and snack bars all around, serving every kind of food you can imagine. "Hey!" a bellhop said. At least I guessed he was a bellhop. He wore a white-and-yellow Hawaiian shirt with lotus designs, shorts, and flip-flops. "Welcome to the Lotus Casino. Here's your room key." I stammered, "Um, but..." "No, no," he said, laughing. "The bill's taken care of. No extra charges, no tips. Just go on up to the top floor, loom 4001. If you need anything, like extra bubbles for the hot tub, or skeet targets for the shooting range, or whatever, just call the front desk. Here are your Lotus Cash cards. They work in the restaurants and on all the games and rides." He handed us each a green plastic credit card. I knew there must be some mistake. Obviously he thought we were some millionaire's kids. But I took the card and said, "How much is on here?" His eyebrows knit together. "What do you mean?" "I mean, when does it run out of cash?" He laughed. "Oh, you're making a joke. Hey, that's cool. Enjoy your stay." We took the elevator upstairs and checked out our room. It was a suite with three separate bedrooms and a bar stocked with candy, sodas, and chips. A hotline to room service. Fluffy towels and water beds with feather pillows. A big-screen television with satellite and high-speed Internet. The balcony had its own hot tub, and sure enough, there was a skeet-shooting machine and a shotgun, so you could launch clay pigeons right out over the Las Vegas skyline and plug them with your gun. I didn't see how that could be legal, but I thought it was pretty cool. The view over the Strip and the desert was amazing, though I doubted we'd ever find time to look at the view with a room like this. "Oh, goodness," Annabeth said. "This place is ..." "Sweet," Grover said. "Absolutely sweet." There were clothes in the closet, and they fit me. I frowned, thinking that this was a little strange. I took a shower, which felt awesome after a week of grimy travel. I changed clothes, ate a bag of chips, drank three Cokes, and came out feeling better than I had in a long time. Search and find them Huh? Look for them and warn them I came out of the bedroom and found that Annabeth, Percy and Grover had also showered and changed clothes. Grover was eating potato chips to his heart's content, Percy looked like he was having a headache, while Annabeth cranked up the National Geographic Channel. "Percy you okay?" "Yeah it's just.... All those stations," he told Annabeth, "and she turn on National Geographic." "It's interesting." "I feel good," Grover said. "I love this place." Without his even realizing it, the wings sprouted out of his shoes and lifted him a foot off the ground, then back down again. "So what now?" Annabeth asked. "Sleep?" Percy and I looked at each other and grinned. We both held up our green plastic Lotus Cash cards. "Play time," I said. I couldn't remember the last time I had so much fun. I came from a relatively poor family. Our idea of a splurge was eating out at Burger King and renting a video. A five-star Vegas hotel? Forget it. I spent most of my time playing and... looking for someone I think. I bungee-jumped the lobby five or six times, snowboarded the artificial ski slope, and played virtual-reality laser tag and FBI sharpshooter. I saw Grover a few times, going from game to game. He really liked the reverse hunter thing—where the deer go out and shoot the rednecks. I saw Annabeth playing trivia games and other brainiac stuff. They had this huge 3-D sim game where you build your own city, and you could actually see the holographic buildings rise on the display board. I didn't think much of it, but Annabeth loved it. Percy was playing with Grover. I'm not sure when I first realized something was wrong. Probably, it was when I noticed the guy standing next to me at VR sharpshooters. He was about thirteen, I guess, but his clothes were weird. I thought he was some Elvis impersonator's son. He wore bell-bottom jeans and a red T-shirt with black piping, and his hair was permed and gelled like a New Jersey girl's on homecoming night. When he saw me he gave a smirk and invited me to play a game of sharpshooters together and he said, "Groovy, man. Been here two weeks, and the games keep getting better and better." Groovy? Later, while we were talking, I said something was "sick," and he looked at me kind of startled, as if he'd never heard the word used that way before. He said his name was Darrin, but as soon as I started asking him questions he got bored with me and started to go back to the computer screen. I said, "Hey, Darrin?" "What?" "What year is it?" He frowned at me. "In the game?" "No. In real life." He had to think about it. "1977." "No," I said, getting a little scared. "Really." "Hey, man. Bad vibes. I got a game happening." After that he totally ignored me. I started talking to people, and I found it wasn't easy. They were glued to the TV screen, or the video game, or their food, or whatever. I found a guy who told me it was 1985. Another guy told me it was 1993. They all claimed they hadn't been in here very long, a few days, a few weeks at most. They didn't really know and they didn't care. Then it occurred to me: how long had I been here? It seemed like only a couple of hours, but was it? I then tried to move, but I bumped into a girl. "I'm sorry!" She said. "Hey, no prob." "Oh... uhm... No prob?" "I--- No problem. Say Uh... I kinda lost track of date. What's the year again?" "Huh? It's 1930. Okay, I'm sorry I have to go. I'm looking for someone." Everyone is important in our story "Did you say something?" I go by Y/N L/N, you'll find the one you're looking for at the zombie shooting game. I left her alone and confused. I didn't know why. But I knew now this place is wrong. I tried to remember why we were here. We were going to Los Angeles. We were supposed to find the entrance to the Underworld. My parents... for a scary second, I had trouble remembering their names. I had to save them. I found Percy first. "There's something wrong." We said at the same time. "Years?" He asked. I nodded. We then looked for the others. We found Annabeth still building her city. "Come on," Percy told her. "We've got to get out of here." No response. I shook her. "Annabeth?" She looked up, annoyed. "What? "We need to leave." "Leave? What are you talking about? I've just got the towers—" "This place is a trap." She didn't respond until I shook her again. "What?" "Listen. The Underworld. Our quest!" "Oh, come on, Percy. Just a few more minutes." "Annabeth, there are people here from 1977. Kids who have never aged. You check in, and you stay forever." "So?" she asked. "Can you imagine a better place?" I grabbed her wrist and yanked her away from the game. "Hey!" She screamed and hit me, but nobody else even bothered looking at us. They were too busy. I made her look directly in my eyes. I said, "Spiders. Large, hairy spiders." That jarred her. Her vision cleared. "Oh my gods," she said. "How long have we—" "I don't know, but we've got to find Grover." We went searching, and found him still playing Virtual Deer Hunter. "Grover!" we both shouted. He said, "Die, human! Die, silly polluting nasty person!" "Grover!" He turned the plastic gun on me and started clicking, as if I were just another image from the screen. I looked at Percy, and together we took Grover by the arms and dragged him away. His flying shoes sprang to life and started tugging his legs in the other direction as he shouted, "No! I just got to a new level! No!" The Lotus bellhop hurried up to us. "Well, now, are you ready for your platinum cards?" "We're leaving," I told him. "Such a shame," he said, and I got the feeling that he really meant it, that we'd be breaking his heart if we went. "We just added an entire new floor full of games for platinum-card members." He held out the cards, and I wanted one. I knew that if I took one, I'd never leave. I'd stay here, happy forever, playing games forever, and soon I'd forget my parents, and our quest, and maybe even my own name. I'd be playing virtual rifleman with groovy Disco Darrin forever. Grover reached for the card, but Annabeth yanked back his arm and said, "No, thanks." We walked toward the door, and as we did, the smell of the food and the sounds of the games seemed to get more and more inviting. I thought about our room upstairs. We could just stay the night, sleep in a real bed for once.... Then we burst through the doors of the Lotus Casino and ran down the sidewalk. It felt like afternoon, about the same time of day we'd gone into the casino, but something was wrong. The weather had completely changed. It was stormy, with heat lightning flashing out in the desert. I ran to the nearest newspaper stand and read the year first. Thank the gods, it was the same year it had been when we went in. Then I noticed the date: June twentieth. We had been in the Lotus Casino for five days. We had only one day left until the summer solstice. One day to complete our quest.

I have so many thoughts and have to get them out now. I already restrained myself from tumblr till I could watch the episodes this morning in europe.
911 episode:
The smarthomes are really fucking creepy and for way too lazy people. Eddie freaking out about it was hilarious tho 😁
Finally their family together ♥ I could swear Chris was like 8 last season and now he looks like a whole ass teenager, I'm getting emotional. Child Chris was super cute, but teen Chris could be fucking hilarious judging by this episode. Eddie is always the serious dad and Buck is the more fun dad and I can't wait to see them prank Eddie more often. Comedy duo right there.
Now wtf is up with Buck? And we have to wait two weeks? I want to know NOW. Can this boi get a break like please. He feels lonely and sad and has abandonment issues (also seen in the crossover although used as a joke). Also it's very relatable to me.
I loved Chim talking to Buck about family and I love their brotherly bond (Yeah that is what a brotherly bond looks like, not what Buddie has, but okay). I always love when the team has friendship/family bonding moments.
Onto the next great friendship: Athena and Hen. First off Hens kids are soo cute omg! Everything Athena said to Hen I nodded along. Women supporting women, women empowerment. We love to see it ♥
Maddie. I'm a bit on the fence here. Buck confides in Maddie and then she goes and tells her mom (who's obviously quite judgemental, giving the talk about the babys gender before). And then Maddie tells this family secret to Chim first and not Buck, which it is about?! I get the whole they're a family thing, but I never agreed with 'have to tell my partner everything, even if it's third person's secrets.'
Texas is a gays only event 😁
The whole episode was so funny and wholesome. 10/10
Lonestar/Crossover:
Since I didn't saw ep1+2 yet I have no idea what the characters currently going through and who died. And I was immediately thrown into the catastrophe. A bit confusing.
If Eddie and Buck didn't give off extremely jealous vibes towards Marjan I don't know what did.
I didn't know I needed TK and Buck to be friends till now. Like above mentioned Buck is more childish than the others and Eddie. He like hihi I'm just gonna do this *giggle*. That's why he's so good with Chris too, bc he's a manchild. And I mean this in the best way. And TK is too.
I also loved that they bonded over their dad and Buck saying in canon that Bobby is his dad. (I read that so much in fan fiction. Speaking off, the whole 2h were like one tbh in terms of relationships and buddie, let's be honest).
Not TKs gaydar going off and him friendzoning Buck 😁 and Buck is just standing there like: Surprised Pikachu face 😂 Also for like the fifth time someone assumed Buck is mlm and he never denied it once.. At this point I'm 99% sure he's canon Bi soon.
But I want another crossover now, this time in L.A, just to see more of Tk and Bucks dumbassery and TK then saying 'Oh so you already had a bf when you were in Texas? My bad 😁'
Also Eddie constantly concerned about his Buck and mentioning him at every change he gets? Love it!

Things I would love to see in S4.
For starters no time jump. pick up basically where we left off maybe around the time Eddie picks up Chris from camp or right after.
1. Hen deciding whether or not she wants to become a nurse/doctor.
2. Buck being the first person Maddie tells she’s pregnant. Having her tell him alone (without Chim).
3. Maddie dealing with her trauma with Doug she’s happy and shes going to be a new mother of course she’s happier than she’s ever been but maybe it also brings back bad memories. Maybe at one point in her marriage they tried to have kids but couldn’t and even though Maddie was sad maybe a small part of her was happy she wasn’t introducing a child into the world like that. Maybe she had a miscarriage from the stress and his abuse, Maybe Doug was infertile and that’s why they couldn’t have kids but he still blamed her nonetheless and we could see the consequences of that. I don’t know I’m spitballing.
Basically I hope Maddie being pregnant shines light on her past and possibly her relationship with her mom/ parents as she gets ready to become one.
.Maddie and Chim learning how to be parents, reading books going to classes etc.
Buck and Albert being excited to be uncles. Having everyone at the 118 be the baby unofficial official uncles and aunts. Bobby and Athena are the grandparents of course.
4. A Buck begins/ A Maddie begins I mean its about time especially for Buck way overdue. We need to meet their parents at least in a flash back.
5. May in college and hopefully we see her either become a nurse or E.M.T etc. If she chooses to be a nurse I think it would be cool to see her in nursing school and to get a glimpse of what it’s like before you get the job. Plus her being a main character.
Seeing Athena deal with her daughter choosing this route she would be proud but maybe also worried after everything she’s been through.
6. Michael continuing to get treatment but also see him date the doctor and have it be somewhat serious not a one time thing. To see him have a talk with Athena and the kids after it starts to become serious.
7.More of Chims younger brother Howie (edit: Albert). where is he is, he okay???
For awhile there was a theory he would become a firefighter for another unit or another responder and I love that.
8.Hen and Karen adopting and how her possibly wanting to change fields may affect that and not just financially but day to day.
9. Chris and Denny play date they may be too old to be called that but you get my point.
10. Friendship dynamics we need more of.
. Maddie & Athena
. Eddie & Hen
. Buck & Josh
. Buck & Howie
. Maddie & May, I swear I may need to rewatch but I think May asked Maddie a question while they were taking a picture and we never saw a follow up scene. I think Maddie asked her something about college so maybe she had a question regarding career wise. Maddie was a nurse so it would make sense and fit the theory that May becomes a nurse/ responder. (the jobs the show is based around). Out of all types of careers doctors and nurses are the job we see the less of so it would be interesting to have a character that’s already there let us see that side of things in the 911 universe. Whether that be May or Hen.
. I want to see Josh happy he doesn’t need a LI for that but if they decide to give him one of those plots (which they foreshadowed when Maddie said everyone has a match) let it be a happy storyline not one where he is used or abused. I would personally like to see him and Buck date but whoever the person be let it be a nice one pls.
11. More of the Buckley-Diaz dynamic please. Everything we got was great but we need more (yes im greedy)
.Have Buck and Eddie pick up Chris from summer camp.
. Have Buck and Eddie take Chris to a ball game.
. Have them take Chris to a ice skating show (like the one in s3 where the guy got his finger cut off).
.Take him to the carnival again but this time with all of them or like Eddie suggested the Zoo.
Basically just let them do things like a family until even more so. I also really want a scene where Eddie and Buck hug Chris together with either one of them being on different sides.
12, This is unlikely but I would like to learn more about Karen I love her but outside of being Hen’s wife and the few details we got about their past we don’t know much about her. How did her and Hen meet? Has she always lived in L.A? Who are her parents, does she have siblings? What is her job? It may not make sense but I think it would be cool if somehow the events or person their helping could somehow tie into her job and maybe that’s how we could learn more about her.
I would also love to see more family unit scenes between Hen,Karen and Denny let them do more things together. Maybe Hen gets free tickets to a concert from a rescue she did or to an ice show etc... Basically just more of them and more of Karen pls.
Maybe some direct ties to 911:Lone star we got a little hint in Lone star but I would love to see it on 911.
Maybe Eddie and Judd are friends and met while Eddie lived in Texas. Judd mentioned the friend he heard the story about Chim from.
Comment below in the notes what you would like to see/ possible theories how they could connect the two shows
Edit:sorry for typos and mistakes (jeez, I should have checked over this post before posting).

Chapter IV: the company you keep
Summary of series: Katie moves from Peachtree, Georgia, to L.A. with her son, Alex to start fresh after the death of her husband. When she meets Evan Buckley, a young firefighter, she falls fast but will her son be so quick to accept Evan into his life?
Summary of chapter: The time has finally come for Katie and Alex to have dinner with Evan and his team at the firehouse. She’s nervous and he’s reluctant. Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, Evan is micromanaging Bobby’s cooking and telling everyone what they can and cannot say.
Warning: Fluff
Author’s Note: After last night’s episode had me on the edge of my seat, I thought it was time for a short chapter with some fluff. A few more chapters and I will have some very ‘angsty,’ dramatic chapters for everyone to indulge in. They’re pretty clear in my head so I hope it translates when I finally write it out. Anyway, until then, I hope you enjoy this chapter and keep reading the series! Cheers, xx! 😘

Evan’s P.O.V.
“Thank you for cooking, Bobby,” you said, standing in front of your captain in the kitchen, “but can you just like... keep a closer eye on it?”
“A closer eye on it?” Bobby said, raising his eyebrows at you, “Buck, relax. Everything is going to be fine. I know what I’m doing here okay?”
“Her kid’s only 8. I want to make sure he actually eats th--” You started but stopped when you realized what you sounded like, “sorry, Bobby. I’m just gonna.. go.” You said, pointing to another area of the room before heading there.
“He’s really stressing,” Eddie said to Bobby, laughing as he offered to help, “he must really like her huh?”
“Seems like it,” Bobby added, instructing Eddie to set the table, “I just hope this one is different. You know? He had a string of hook ups before Abby and then she left, then he met Ali and she couldn’t handle him at his worst.”
“She is different,” Eddie answered, “but she is also a mom. She’ll choose her son every time, so I just hope Buck’s ready for that...” He looked over at Christopher, knowing how well Buck took care of him during the Tsunami and afterwards but you were curious how he’d fair with a kid who he’d have to impress.
“I think he understands that but I understand the concern. That’s why he has us.” Bobby replied, bringing Eddie back to the conversation
“Okay listen up everyone!” You called everyone together, “there are some ground rules for tonight.” The group laughed, sitting around the table thinking that you was joking
“You’re serious?” Chimney said, noticing the scowl you gave the group
“Evan, relax. We’re not going to embarrass you” Maddie added but the firefighters in the room disagreed
“We have some stories she’d probably love to hear” Hen said.
“Yes, exactly. Don’t say any of that!” you remarked, “We’re not just trying to impress her, we’re also trying to impress her son...”
“We?” Athena said as she came up the stairs with Harry, May and Michael
“Yes, we. We’re a family and the impression you make reflects on the impression I make. Got it?” They hummed as you tried to make your case, going through a list of topics you wanted them to stay away from, but the group wasn’t paying too much attention to you.
“Buck,” Maddie said, walking over to you, “calm down. These guys love you and, from what you’ve told me about this girl, she’s not likely to run from a couple embarrassing stories.”
“I’m just nervous. I really like this girl and everyone here is my family. I want everyone to get along.”
“And they will. But you gotta let it happen naturally; let them talk about what they want to talk about. Okay?”
“Okay.” You agreed but took a deep breath, still nervous that this could be a huge disaster.

Katie’s P.O.V
“Okay, buddy,” You said to Alex as you prepared to head out, “you ready to go?” He nodded but suddenly ran to his room; coming out with the plastic T-Rex that Jesse got for him two Christmases ago.
“I wanna take him with me.” He said and you smiled, agreeing before saying that it was time to go, opening the door to head to the cab, “Nick?” You questioned in surprise as your teenage client stood outside the door with his large Bodyguard
“Hey,” he said, inviting himself in, “can I hang with you two for a bit tonight? Maybe even stay the night?”
“Uhh,” you hesitated, looking between Nick and his bodyguard, “actually...”
“I just don’t feel safe at home. There’s some psycho stalking me or something. I can feel it.”
“That’s what you’ve got Big Jeff for!” you tried
“Yeah.. but Big Jeff doesn’t speak”
“Come on Jeff. Big Guy. You’ll keep him company right?” He just looked at you, slight sympathy in his eyes but didn’t say a word, “look, Nick, I would love to hang out with you tonight--”
“GREAT!” he interrupted
“But,” you continued, “Alex and I already have plans and they can’t be cancelled. I’m sorry.”
“That’s cool. I’ll just come with!” he interjected and your mouth gaped, “Big Jeff too!” You felt Alex tug at the hem of her dress and knew you’d regret it if you didn’t let Nick tag along.
“Fine. Just let me make a call first.” You stepped away from the boys to call Evan quickly to let him know the change of plans
“Hey..” you greeted, somberly
“Hey!” he replied brightly, “you on your way?”
“Yes, but there’s been a slight change of plans.”
“Change of plans? What do you mean?”
“One of my clients is freaked out that someone is stalking him. So he’s gonna tag along tonight... Is that okay? He’ll take care of himself while we’re there. We don’t need to watch him or anything.”
“Oh”
“I know. I’m so sorry. I didn’t know how to tell him he couldn’t come. He’s a good kid, I promise, I think he’s just lonely.”
“No problem. I’ll let everyone know, I’m sure we’ll have enough food for everyone.”
“Thank you, Evan.” You ended the call and took a deep breath before directing the boys out of the house and into the cab that was waiting outside.
xx
“This looks amazing, Captain Nash!” you exclaimed
“Thank you, Katie,” he smiled, “but please, call me Bobby.” You smiled back at him and guided Alex through the room while Evan introduced the two of them to the rest of the team. Alex kept his attention focused on his T-Rex, though, and you were worried what Evan’s friends might think of him.
“I’m sorry,” you tried, “he’s just nervous. Alex, sweetie, can you say Hello?”
“Hi” he whispered but ran to wear Christopher was sitting
“I’m sorry. He’s usually better than that...”
“It’s alright,” Athena said, “I understand. Trust me. Any time, I introduced Harry or May to someone new, they hide behind me.”
“And don’t think for a second that Evan wasn’t the same way when he was little” a long-haired brunette chimed in
“You must be Maddie!” you exclaimed, excited to finally meet Evan’s sister
“That’s me!” she smiled, shaking your outstretched hand, “your son is adorable. Buck says he’s 8?”
“He listened. Good to know,” you giggled, “yes. He’ll be nine in a few months. I can’t believe how fast time is going by.” Athena nodded and raised her eyebrows in agreement
“Ain’t that the truth.” Athena said and you laughed as everyone began heading to the table and found your seat next to Evan; Alex sitting beside you. The meal was great and the company was better, the conversation, however, wavered between great and awkward. You noticed Nick’s bodyguard get up and begin to pace around the space.
“So... what is Katie short for?” Chimney asked
“Hmm,” you hummed, swallowing the bite of food still in your mouth, “Katerina. Mom was a big Katarina Witt fan before I was born so she named me after her.” You smiled, placing your hand on Evan’s knee, “what does Chimney stand for? I tried to pry it out of Evan but he did not budge.”
“It’s a secret. I can’t tell you. With time, maybe. But I’ll have to trust you first.” The table laughed and you narrowed her eyes sarcastically at him, which he was all too quick to return
“Alex, buddy, how do you like LA?” Bobby asked
“It’s okay, I guess,” he said simply, “I miss the peaches though.” You laughed, grateful he was able to make some kind of joke, even if he didn’t realize it. Evan took your hand in his and you turned to smile at him, tilting your head to fully look at him for a minute
“You moved here last year?” Hen asked, bringing you away from Evan
“Mmm, no,” you began, swallowing the sip of wine that you’d just taken, “a couple months ago. We needed a fresh start after last year but there were a lot of things we had to get in order before we left. So we’ve been here for about 3 months.”
“Right,” Hen adjusted herself and you were unsure if she should continue her questioning, “because of your husband...” Evan squeezed your hand before huffing at Hen. Nick’s bodyguard, Jeff, suddenly started to move closer to the table as if he couldn’t hear the conversation from where he was standing and wanted to know more.
“Hen!” Evan scowled and Hen raised her hands in defense
“No no,” you smiled, “it’s okay. Yes. My husband was a Navy SEAL and he passed away last year while he was overseas. It was hard, unbelievably so--” you said, brushing your son’s hair to the side-- “which is why I decided to find a job here and move us out to live near my Mom. She moved away after my Dad died, so I guess running to L.A. is genetic.” The group laughed and you squeezed Evan’s hand to reassure him you were fine.
“So what do you do for work?” Athena asked
“Ahh, me!” Nick chimed in, making you practically choke on her wine, “I mean, that’s where I come in. She’s my saviour.”
“I’m Nick’s publicist. He showed up unannounced at my house last minute which is why he’s here.”
“What’s that like? Being a publicist?” May asked and you glanced at Athena, to see what kind of answer she should give
“It’s great!” you decided, “it’s a lot of uncertainty and, depending on the clients you get, it can be extremely taxing. I’ve been lucky enough to have easy clients with good heads on their shoulders, like this one, but some people are tasked with looking after Politicians and entire businesses. It’s a lot of fun though, I really enjoy my work.” You smiled, a gesture that May returned
“I’ve gone through five publicists,” Nick admitted, “but Katie’s the best. I think it’s ‘cause she’s a mom. She seems to know what’s good for me and what can keep me grounded.”
“I think it’s time we go” Jeff interrupted
“Nah, Big Jeff, we’re good. I’m enjoying the company.” Nick tried to convince him but when you looked down at Alex and Christopher, you decided to take Jeff’s side
“You know what, it looks like the boys are getting pretty tired. I should probably get Alex home anyway. But we’ve really enjoyed tonight and getting to know everyone.” You said sincerely, “I hope we can do it again sometime.”
“I’ll take you home” Evan sad as he stood up
“Su--” you attempted to agree only to be stopped by the bodyguard
“I’ll do that, Firefighter.”
“Excuse me?” Evan’s voice was harsh and his face contorted into anger
“I can take care of them. You just stay here.. with your trucks and your little toys.“ You were unsure of where this was coming from and it was clear that the group was uncomfortable
“You’re not saving the world, Big Jeff, you’re just his bodyguard. You don’t need to protect her.” Evan said through gritted teeth
“Okay then!” You interjected, “that’s enough testosterone for tonight. Evan can I talk to you downstairs please?” He agreed but his eyes never left Jeff’s until he followed you down the stairs. The group tried to subtly listen to the conversation but they rushed to the Bannister and were easily visible to you and Evan
“What the hell is going on?” Evan started
“I don’t know but it’s just a ride home. He’s gotta take Nick home anyway, so it’s not a big deal. Just relax.”
“But why is he antagonizing me?“
“I honestly don’t know. I didn’t think you did anything. Everything was fine. Just let me talk to him on the ride home, okay?” You pouted at him, intertwining your fingers with his, hoping you’d get your way
“Fine.“ He agreed just as Nick, Alex and Jeff walked past, Jeff glaring at Evan, and Alex waiting for you, “just be careful please? i don’t trust this guy. I’ve got a bad feeling about him.” You laughed, pushing yourself up onto your tiptoes to kiss Evan gently
“I will, I promise.” You replied, “I really do have to get Alex home though. I’ll see you tomorrow?“ He nodded before giving you one more kiss and turning his attention to Alex
“Hey,” he leaned down, “did you have fun tonight?”
“Yeah” Alex answered and Evan smiled
“Good. So you think we can do it again?”
“I don’t know. I guess. Maybe earlier? I’m tired.” He whined but Evan knew not to take it personally
“Sounds like a plan, big guy.” You gave Evan a hug goodbye, taking your sons small hand in yours as they began to walk out, stopping suddenly to ask Evan a question
“What do you think they thought of me?“ You gestured to the group above, knowing they’ve been spying the entire time, laughing softly when they backed away from the Bannister. “Everyone always loves Alex, so I’m not worried about them but it seemed like, before all of this, that they kind of adored me...”
“I don’t see why they wouldn’t.” He cooed and you smiled brightly at him
“Yeah, you’re right.” You said triumphantly before walking out of the firehouse, meeting Jeff at the door where he put a hand on your back and you could imagine Evan would be angry at the gesture so you tried to quickly diffuse it by turning around to wave goodbye. Making the whole night feel like a success, no matter how it may have ended.

My mum's reactions to 9-1-1 episode 3, Next of Kin
Opening scene, dad attempts to look cool getting into bouncy house: Mum: "There's a reason adults shouldn't jump around in those."
The wind picks up taking the bouncy house with it: "Oh god it went flying! How strong are the winds in L.A.? Shit!"
The team arrive, hen and buck rescue the kids from the cliff: "Oh thank God the kids are fine. Although I wasn't actually expecting them to kill off little kids this isn't game of thrones, sex scenes aren't nearly naked enough." Omg mum 😂
Athena finds May has overdosed: "Probably the scariest thing that a parent could ever go through." These scenes are very hard on my mum.
I don't feel comfortable writing what she says about this part of the episode because of how personal it is.
Chimney pretending to cook take out got made her laugh. Which is good since the last scenes made her cry. Mum already doesn't like Tatiana:
"Why does Chimney lie about his job to his girlfriend? Oh, to impress her that's sad."
Chimney purposes: "Oh no he's not is he, oh dear."
Buck and Hen playing video games at the station: "I used to love watching you and it brother play games together. Until you started fight of course."
She says "fight" like I had a chance against my brother who's been bigger and heavier than me since I was 10 and he was 8. He used to push me off the sofa and sit on my back until I'd give him the controller, the cheat!
Bobby's ranting to Chimney about faking himself for Tatiana: mum nodding along to what Bobby says, "He's right."
Chimney storms off: "That is not going to end well." My mum is clearly psychic 😉
Chimney driving angry down the motorway, dodging cars and overtaking the truck: "There is going to be in an accident isn't he?"
The truck runs straight into the back of Chimney's car: "Ha I knew it." 😅
The team arrive on scene and the camera pans out to show Chimney pinned to his seat with the rebar through his head: Jesus! WTF!? That so gross ugh."
Chimney's brain surgery: a lot of grossed out noises.
You'd think having been a nurse and career my mum would be unfazed by blood and gore, she's dealt with the care of dead bodies, all the bodily fluids, broken bones and still even small cuts make her squeamish. I'll admit I'm having a lot of fun watching her gross out. I'm evil I know 😈
The families locked in the back of the truck storage unit and slowly dying in the heat: Some very choice swear words. This scene made her (and me) super mad.
Unfortunately last year in the UK around 39 migrants died in a truck like this after being left in an over crowded in an refrigerated trailer, the driver and several others have arrested for 39 counts of manslaughter.
Just the idea someone would leave people to die like that disgusts the both of us so much.
Hen taking down the driver when he tries to make a run for it had my mum cheering.
Abby phones Buck: "Why does he keep picking up on calls? Why doesn't Abby wait until he's not at work. Shouldn't she know it's potentially dangerous for him to get distracted whenever his phone goes off."
This gets me as well, like clearly in this scene he's not in the middle of a rescue but still, I think my mum's point stands.
Abby's brother trying to get her to put their mom in a care facility and abby talking to Carla later about wanting to keep her mum with her: As mentioned before my mum has worked with patients who have Alzheimer's and their families. She doesn't have much to say about Abby and her mum this episode only that both siblings have very valid arguments over their mother's care.
Final scene, the team visiting Chimney at the hospital: After the surgery scene mum's pretty relieved that Chimney didn't die and chokes up a little when Bobby takes Chimney's hand.
Final thoughts: pretty good episode and happy to see that the May and Athena cliffhanger from 1x02 didn't end tragically.
Mum is still pretty excited to keep watching so more reactions to come soon😊
(All GIFs above our my own)
#my mum's reactions#9-1-1#1x03#long post#I'm attempting to make more gifs for these#so hopefully they're not to terrible

Chapter X: this wasn’t the plan
Summary of series: Katie moves from Peachtree, Georgia, to L.A. with her son, Alex, to start fresh after the death of her husband. When she meets Evan Buckley, a young firefighter, she falls fast but will her son be so quick to accept Evan into his life?
Summary of chapter: Evan tries his best to put his feelings about Jeff aside so he could continue to be happy with Katie but when things get a little tense, some words are exchanged that lead to some trouble for Katie.
Warning: Trigger warning for the insinuation of rape, a little bit of angst and a little bit of fighting
Author’s Note: This is the start of the excitement for this series. It’s a little bit long but I hope you don’t hold that against me. Since Buck and Bobby have such a cute father-son relationship, I thought it would be make sense for Katie and Athena to grow closer but wasn’t sure exactly how to do it. So, I decided the best way to do it is by surrounding it in angst. Typical me. I hope you enjoy it. Cheers, xx! 😘

Evan’s P.O.V
You and Kastie had been seeing each other for almost a year now and things seemed to be going well aside from the few disagreements you’d had about small things. Her family and yours were growing closer every day and it made you feel warm inside.
“So is this like a typical day off for you guys?” Katie asked, referring to the group gathered in Athena and Bobby’s backyard for a barbeque
“Not really,” you laughed, “we don’t get many days off. Usually it’s just a few hours here and there. So we head to a bar. Actually, we usually go to the one where we met.”
“That’s the go-to spot?”
“That’s the go-to spot.” You repeated and she laughed
“Well, thank you,” she said, looking up at you before looking at the group in front of them, “for inviting me here. To spend time with them and get to know your.. family.” You smiled, kissing Katie’s temple before nodding in Alex’s direction
“Looks like he’s having a good time”
“Are you kidding?” she laughed, “he’s got more kids to play with today than he has in months.” She tucked herself in closer to you as Eddie came over with Maddie and Chimney
“This is ridiculous!” Eddie laughed, gesturing to the two couples in front of him, “I mean Maddie and Chimney are expecting their first kid and you two...”
“Yes?” You and Katie said, smiling when Eddie cocked his head to the side
“I miss not being the only single one”
“Aww come on,” Katie cooed, “you’ll find someone.. when you least expect it. We did.” She gestured to the four of them and Eddie dropped his head with a smile
“I hope you’re right,” he smirked, “because I’m gettin’ really tired of having to listen to the hopeless romantics all the time.” Bobby was the last to join everyone, listening to you all laughing from across the backyard, and he smiled while he watched everyone joke with each other; Bobby caught Katie staring at you with a big grin on her face, you noticed a blush rush her cheeks when her eyes caught Bobby’s looking at her.
xx
Katie’s P.O.V
A few days after the barbeque at Bobby and Athena’s place, you tried to gather everyone up for some drinks at the bar.
“No kids. I know Maddie and Bobby aren’t drinking but they can make sure we all stay... decent,” you laughed as you spoke to Hen over the phone, “don’t get me wrong. I love Alex, but we all need a little bit of time away from the kids don’t we?”
“Yes” she replied, a laugh lingering on the word
“So you’re in?”
“I’m sure everyone will be in.” A few hours later, the 118 met you at the bar near the table where you and Evan had your unofficial first date. You didn’t think you’d laughed as hard as you did that night, watching everyone get up and attempt to be the best at Karaoke, and you hadn’t felt this way since Jesse. When Evan noticed you fidgeting with your wedding ring, that you were still unable to take off, he knew something was wrong.
“Are you o--” he started but was interrupted by Jeff coming to say hello
“I wasn’t expecting to see you here!” Jeff greeted, barely acknowledging Evan or the members of the 118.
“Jeff?” you said awkwardly as Jeff moved Evan out of the way to hug you, leading Evan to huff and sit back down near Eddie
“I’m so glad you’re here actually,” he said but you tried to find Evan in the crowd and didn’t hear what Jeff was saying until he clapped his hands in front of her, “HEY! Did you hear anything I said?”
“I’m sorry, Jeff,” you replied, “I’m here with some friends. It was uhm... good to see you. Enjoy your night.” Jeff watched as you walked over to Evan, who had a steely look on his face when you tried to talk to him, making Jeff scoff and shake his head; leaving the bar.
“What’s wrong?” you asked Evan when he pulled his arm away from you
“Him. Why is he always involving himself in your life?”
“Evan please,” you scoffed, “I had no idea he would be here. This is your spot but it’s also a bar...”
“Why didn’t you move away from him? Or walk back to the table with me?”
“I thought you would’ve gotten over this by now,” you tried to say calmly because you saw the aggravation building in Evan’s posture, “I didn’t want to be rude. That’s all.”
“What exactly am I supposed to be getting over, Katie?” he yelled, making you wince, before standing up and taking you aside, “hmm? the fact that you can’t get over your ex? The fact that you’re still wearing your wedding ring after almost two years? Or the fact that someone you work with everyday is so clearly obsessed with you but you don’t want to seem to do anything about it? What exactly should I be getting over?”
“Evan..” you almost whimpered
“I love you,” he stated, harshly and angrily, “but I need to know you’re all in.”
“I am” you replied but the scared look on your face said something to Evan
“Prove it.” He walked back to grab his coat before storming out of the bar, looking back at you quickly before Bobby and Eddie chased after him. When Hen and Athena saw you begin to walk toward the door, they stopped you and ordered you a drink
“Just give him a second,” Hen said just as Maddie sat down, “the boy just needs to sober up a little.”
“He loves you,” Maddie said as she sat down, “I know you know that. He’s just a little hotheaded still.”
“I love him, too,” you replied, taking a long sip of your drink, “I just can’t seem to get rid of this god damn ring!” You held up your left hand, showcasing your wedding ring to the girls, who all seemed to cock their heads to the side
“You will,” Athena said, “eventually. One day you’ll realize that it doesn’t feel right anymore. It may happen over time. Or it might happen all at once. But eventually you’ll be able to take it off.” You nodded, thanking Athena for her kind words and reassurance, before you finished your drink and ordered the next round for everyone. Maddie and Chimney were the first to leave, followed soon after by Bobby and Athena, while Hen said she’d share a cab with you because there was no way either of you could drive; You gave Hen a hug when you dropped her off at her place, falling into the backseat of the cab and closing the door.
“I’m sorry” you texted Evan but when he didn’t respond, you continued to text him
“I love you.”
“I’m all in. I’ve always been all in.”
“I’m sorry I can’t take off the ring but I just need a little bit more time with it”
“Where are we going?” the driver asked and you gave him the address before your vision became increasingly blurred and you couldn’t seem to sit up straight. You could hear the muffled sounds of the driver trying to keep her awake but your body lobbed to the side; everything going blank after that.

When you woke up the next morning, you couldn’t remember anything. Not how you got home, not changing into your pajamas, not putting your phone in the charger, and yet, there you were. In your own bed, your own clothes and your phone fully charged. You stood up to check on Alex when you felt a sudden pain on your side, lifting your shirt up, you found a bruise on your hip that hadn’t been there before.
“Last night must have gotten more out of control than I thought...” you said to yourself, shaking your head before heading out. Alex and Leny were at the kitchen table having breakfast when you walked in, your mom narrowing her eyes at you quickly
“You got home late” Leny said when she got up to stand next to you at the counter
“Not now, mom, please” you whispered, trying to contain the headache that was burrowing in your temples
“It wasn’t Evan..” she stated and you looked at her confused, “that brought you to the door. I thought you two were doing so well. What happened?”
“Did you see who it was?”
“No?” she questioned, “I didn’t think to pay attention. What’s going on?”
“Nothing. I’m just hungover”
“How is Evan?”
“He’s good. I mean.. he’s mad at me, but he’s fine”
“Why is he mad at you?” Leny asked but all you could do was lift up your left hand to show your mom the ring that still remained, “I told you, you should take that off. He’s not going to like.. come back and haunt you or something”
“Mama..” you whined
“What?”
“You know that’s not what this is about,” you remarked, “I know that Jesse would be happy for me. As long as Alex is okay. I know that. But he was my husband, Mom. The first boy I ever dated. Ever kissed. The first boy I ever loved and I married him and had a son with him. And he’s gone now. It’s not like I’m not over him because he left me you know? He’s gone. He’s like gone gone. Like, he’s never going to see his son again and Alex is never going to see him again. I don’t think he’s going to haunt me. I just... can’t let him go.”
“Liebling..” she cooed, bringing you in for a hug, “you have to.” You pulled away just enough to look at your mom. You dropped your head back onto your mom’s shoulder and tried to imagine what letting go of Jesse looked like, when you winced, “are you okay?” Leny asked
“Yeah..” you sighed, “I think I just hit my side last night. I’ve got a bruise on my hip.” Your mom kissed the top of your head before telling you that you should get ready for the park
“Alex is really excited about the picnic.”
“I almost forgot about that. I’ll go get ready.” You groaned as you walked away from your mom, stopping to watch as Alex played in the family room
“Mommy, look!” he called to you, “I made the 118!”
“Wow, sweetie, that’s awesome!” you smiled
“Do you think daddy could’ve been in the 118?” Your eyes teared up at the question, your breath hitching in your throat
“If he wanted to be, I’m sure”
“That would’ve been so cool.”
“Yeah,” you sighed, “alright Alex, five minutes and then we’ll be on our way okay?”
“OKAY!” His little voice rang to you. When the three of you finally got to the park, you tried to get a hold of Evan again
“Can we please talk?”
“I’m sorry”
“I can’t really explain it. Not like this. I need to see you”
“Evan, please”
“I love you.” You could see that he was reading the texts by the ellipses that kept appearing and disappearing but no answer was given so you kept your focus on Alex and Leny and the beautiful L.A. sun. The day was easy but after a few hours playing in the sun, Alex was starting to get cranky and you were still thinking about why Evan hadn’t replied yet
“I just remembered I have to go to the community centre!” Helena shrieked, “I completely forgot! I’m supposed to be setting up the bake sale for this weekend. It’s the Veteran’s Fund Event, you’ll be there right?” She asked and you nodded
“I promised, Ma,” you laughed, “we’ll be there. Go. We’ll catch a cab.” Helena kissed your forehead and gave her grandson a big hug goodbye while you called a cab. The motion brought back the first memory you’d of last night but it wasn’t much to go on, so you ignored it; leading Alex to the bench where the car would meet you. You tried to focus on Alex but the smell of the cab and the route he was taking was slowly bringing things into focus and you started to feel a tinge of panic in your chest. When the car pulled up in front of the house, Alex flew open the door and you were abruptly pulled from your memories to pay the driver and stop Alex from getting hurt, he didn’t seem to notice anything was wrong, though, as he went straight from outside to where his Lego blocks were; oh to be as blissful as a child. As you moved throughout the house, you tried to recall any memories from anything -- touch, scent, music, anything -- but nothing clicked. It was then that you decided to take a closer look at the bruise on your hip, realizing that there was a matching mark on your other side that differed only in its placement. The bruise on your right hip seemed to be right on the bone while the one on the left was closer to your waist. You furrowed your brow as you looked at your face in the mirror, shaking your head at the thoughts you were having before dialing a number in your phone.
“Hi,” you said lightly, “is it okay if Alex and I stop by for a bit?”
xx
“Hi Katie!” Bobby greeted when you and Alex showed up on the doorstep that afternoon, “come on in!”
“Thanks Bobby,” you replied, “I’m surprised you don’t have a shift today”
“Late shift. I was actually just about to start getting ready so I can’t stay and chat”
“That’s okay,” you assured, “I actually came to talk to Athena...” Bobby gave you a confused look, making you shrug your shoulders in response
“She’s just in the backyard, you and Alex can head out there. It was nice to see you, Katie”
“Thanks, Bobby. Hey,” you said, stopping him from running away just yet, “have you talked to Evan? He’s not responding to any of my texts or my calls. I--”
“Look I don’t want to get involved,” he started, putting his hands up in defence, “but just trust him. Trust how he feels about you.” You nodded and thanked him before heading out to see Athena.
“You go play over there okay buddy?” you said to Alex, gesturing to an area away from the table in the backyard, “hey Athena”
“Hi Katie,” she smiled, “how are you doin’?”
“I’m fine. Thank you for letting us pop in like this”
“Of course!” she said, readjusted her position in her chair slightly, “but I’m guessing you didn’t just come here for Alex to play in my backyard. What’s going on, sweetheart?” You breathed in deeply, letting out a long sigh
“I don’t remember anything from last night.” You stated simply, honestly, and watched Athena’s unchanging expression, “I remember getting into a fight with Evan. I remember drinking with you and Hen but after that things get.. hazy. I think I must have called a cab because I got home. But I don’t remember actually driving home or getting to my door. I don’t remember anything”
“We all had a lot to drink...” she tried to justify but you could tell from her voice that she didn’t believe that
“See that’s the thing. I don’t think we got drunk enough for me to black out that fast. And that aggressively. I just.. I need your advice, Athena, as a mom.”
“You mean as a cop?” she cocked her eyebrow
“No, as a mom,” you repeated, “I have bruises on my sides. I’m missing parts of the night. I was drunk. So, maybe I’m just thinking the absolute worst. Because I do that sometimes -- think of the worst possible outcome”
“As most moms do...”
“Right!” you confirmed, “so what do I do? What would you do?”
“That’s not a question for me to answer. I’m not even sure what you’re asking me...”
“I’m not really sure I do either...”
“Do you want this to drag on?”
“Of course not”
“Look, as a cop, I would advise you to file a report. That helps us catch whoever did this,” she started, placing her hand on your arm when she saw your head drop, “but as a mom? Baby, I would say you have to do anything and everything you can to make yourself feel safe for you and that boy over there. Whether that is getting a big ol’ alarm system or contacting the police. Talking about it or just forgetting about it. You do what you gotta do for you and your son.”
“I don’t know if forgetting about it is the problem,” you started, “I have no memory of one minute to the next. I can’t make a report because all I remember is everything before I even thought about going home. I can forget. I can put it all behind me and act like it never happened because I don’t know that it actually did happen. But my body? My body remembers everything...” Athena shifted in her chair as she listened to your explanation of the night, “I can’t picture voices or faces but I can feel breath on my skin when no one else is around. I don’t remember anyone other than Evan ever holding me last night but I’ve got bruises on my hips that look suspiciously like hand prints and I can still feel someone grabbing me but no one’s touching me. I don’t have any proof, Athena, and I don’t want to drag my son through all of this, I really don’t. But.. if this happened, how do I live with myself if it happens to someone else?”
“That’s not on you,” she tried, holding your hand to reassure you, “you do not have to think 10 steps ahead”
“Maybe I just drank too much..”
“This isn’t your fault”
“I just wish I could remember something. Anything. One small detail.” Tears started to stream down your cheeks and Athena came to your side to wrap you in a comforting hug until you pulled back and thanked her for listening.
“Hey,” Athena called out, stopping you and Alex before they walked out the door, “you’re going to be okay.” She pulled you in for a hug, and you squeezed her tightly in appreciation for all Athena had said to you.
“What was that about?” Bobby asked when Athena closed the door
“Girl talk” was all she replied, a sly smile on her face before she kissed Bobby goodbye.
xx
“Mommy?” Alex asked while you tucked him into bed
“Yes?” you replied
“Where’s Nick?”
“Nick? He’s at his house,” you giggled, “why?”
“Wasn’t he here yesterday?”
“No, love, no one was here yesterday. Just you and me.”
“No but I heard his bodyguard”
“Big Jeff?”
“Yeah Big Jeff!” he exclaimed and you furrowed your brow, “he was in the living room and it sounded like he was talking to someone.”
“I don’t know, baby,” you said, your thoughts beginning to spiral, “but Nick’s at home. Time to go to sleep.” After you’d managed to get him to fall asleep, you tried calling Evan again but, again, he didn’t answer and you began pacing in your bedroom thinking about what Alex had said. Could Jeff really have been there last night? He left the bar so much earlier than everyone that you barely remembered him being there in the first place.
“Evan, I’m.. I need to talk to you. Please call me back.” You hastily left a voicemail for Evan before calling Maddie and asking if she knew where he was
“He’s got a shift tonight” she replied
“Has he had a shift all day? Or is he really just ignoring me?”
“I’m sure he’ll call,” she tried, “just give him another day”
“I’m just freaking out a little Maddie..”
“Why? What’s going on? Can I help?”
“I have to go.” You abruptly hung up the phone and sent a final text to Evan before heading to bed. You tried to sleep but you couldn’t seem to calm your mind, running through all different kinds of scenarios about what may or may not have happened. Although you did finally fall asleep, you kept seeing bits and pieces of faces and memories from last night that left you tossing and turning until the sound of a text message coming in woke you up.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have ignored you today. I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did about your ring. That’s something I can’t expect you to just... stop wearing. I get that and I’m sorry for saying those things. It was just seeing Jeff there that really pushed me over the edge, you know?” You were about to reply when you saw someone in the shadows, forcing you to sit up in your bed; dropping your phone as you did so. Your phone continued to ding as the shadow came closer, freezing you in fear, and you hoped that Alex would stay silent so he would stay safe. When the man’s face came into the light and you saw that it was Jeff, the memories from last night became clear -- one in particular from her bedroom.
“You left marks!” Jeff’s voice sounded angry as he spoke to someone you didn’t recognize, though it could’ve been the cab driver
“She bruises easily!” the voice argued
“I didn’t tell you to do that. Why did you do something other than EXACTLY what I said?”
“I couldn’t help myself..”
“Yes. You could have. You just did it anyway.”
“Whatever, Fuck You. I got her here.”
“Get out.”
“My money?”
“You’ll get it. Leave.” Jeff knelt down in front of you, opening your drawer and grabbing a fresh set of pajamas to dress you in, “it wasn’t supposed to be like this. This wasn’t the plan. If you’d left with me, I never would’ve told him to take you home and he never would’ve done this to you. But you didn’t leave with me. You stayed and got drunk with them. It’s time for us to go now.” He started to pick you up, stopping suddenly when he heard Alex
Mommy?” Alex called, wandering into your room only to find you asleep so he shrugged and walked back to his room.
Suddenly, you were brought back to the present where Jeff was kneeling in front of you once again and your eyes grew wide with fear
“It’s time to go, now.” He said as you shook her head
“No.”
“This isn’t a discussion, Katerina. We’re leaving.” You searched his eyes for any insecurity but he didn’t falter so you did what you could to give yourself a little more time to come up with a plan; You attempted to grab your phone from where it fell but Jeff grabbed you, dragging you out of your room as you screamed, “QUIET!” He yelled, showing you that Alex was already tied up in the living room, “quiet or he dies.” Tears streamed down your face as Jeff forced you and Alex into the backseat of his car.

Evan’s P.O.V
“Katie?” you continued to send texts to Katie
“Are you really going to ignore me now?”
“Just because I didn’t reply immediately to you?”
“Come on, Katie.”
“Katie?”
“Hello?!”
“ANYONE THERE?!”
“Seriously Katie?!”
“You can’t just ignore me like this. Katie!”
