End of Agent: Time’s Up
There was no avoiding this meeting. The Astral Agency was out of gil. What was coming could not be avoided.  The only thing Sarij could do was try to preserve the future for the members of the company, and to do that he was going to host two meetings. The first would be with the command staff of the company so that the second with the entire company would not be as chaotic since the command staff would all be on the same page.
Thankfully, Reks Blanc, Berrod Armstrong, Sergei Harlenk, and Cerina Borlaaq all were in attendance. Sarij began the meeting with the heavy blow of, “The company is going to be closed in two sennights.” He continued by explaining that as things were the future of the members, even if they were not under the same banner was in jeopardy. Iron jaw cleaned up his loose ends and the Agents were loose ends. It would not happen immediately, but every member would be marked by the Spinner’s Shears after the company closed.
Cerina accused Sarij of giving up and demanded he step down if he no longer could carry the burden of leadership. She pointed out quite a few matters with her usual tempered fury, but Sarij quickly alleviated her fears by informing her that the reason he was calling the meeting was to inform the leaders and then the company, the Astral Agency was going to commit treason by attacking an Immortal Flames’ Base and killing Iron Jaw.
Sergei, being a member of the Immortal Flames, was torn, but after Sarij’s assurances that the only Immortal Flames that was to die was Iron Jaw, and that the company would go out of their way to avoid causing serious harm or death to other soldiers, Sergei agreed and began to confer with Reks on methods of non-lethal takedowns of soldiers. Meanwhile Cerina and Berrod differed with Sarij on matters of loyalty.
Sarij presented that he was going to give every member a chance to back out of the company while the company committed treason, so that they would not be caught up the the arrest and trials. Both Cerina and Berrod agreed with that, but what they did not agree with was that Sarij intended to let folks know if the company somehow still existed after the dust settled, all would be welcome back without guilt or shame even if they crossed their name off in the book. The three of them discussed the matter for a short while, Cerina and Berrod valued loyalty over preserving the future for all. They would not fight for someone who would not support the company. Sarij took a stance of:  he did not ask if he could have the company commit treason so he could not hold those who stepped away at fault. In the end Sarij relented to the other two directors of the company and made an announcement on the pearl.
"This is Director Sarij Rahzersyn, may I have the attention of all members of the company?"
"Before the meeting today, there is something that must be addressed. The matters of the meeting will stray into territory that will lead to arrests, gaols, and perhaps death. However, while I did not ask any of ya if we should go in that direction, I will give ya the choice to walk that path.”
“If any of ya are not willing to risk everything, including freedom ya may scratch yer name out of the book at the front of the estate. Ya will be blameless fer the what is to come, and /I/ will not hold anything against ya if ya choose that route. Ya must preserve yer future, even it ain't with us.
Should ya choose tah leave yer name in the book, please come tah the sparring room for the meeting."
"Thank-ya."
Tumblr media
The sparring room quickly filled up with members of the company. On top of the command staff there was Dylan Skye, Milo North, Avieno Naemig, N’hara Tia, Kitakaze Mugenkgami, Releval Outtlaw, Autgar Bloode, Crooked Tarot, Garyn Almos, Kairun Gallek, and Balthius Stark.
Despite the tone of Sarij’s call on the pearl, the majority of the group was almost jovial seeing everyone gathered up together as such. Even after Sarij mentioned the matter of committing treason, much of it was almost laughed off, except by Crooked who quickly tried to throw together a plan to frame Iron Jaw with false evidence and false testimony. His argument gain some traction before it was stopped by the command staff with a dose of cold reality: there was no time and Iron Jaw would not just sit around letting them frame him. Crooked took his leave from the room for some time before later returning to the room.
When the fact the Agent’s goal was to kill Iron Jaw finally was brought up, more protest was raised. Garyn and others believed it was the wrong way, and that the company would just become like the Spinner’s Shears. Kitakaze and others raised point that there was no solid proof that the Spinner’s Shears would not kill them even with Iron Jaw dead, as well as there was no solid proof that Iron Jaw was the top of the conspiracy.
Once again, the problem was time. They knew Iron Jaw was working to try to get a seat on the Syndicate by taking control of Free Companies to build his wealth, and Everret Black, the leader of the Spinner’s Shears cell Iron Jaw had hired, claimed that their contract with Iron Jaw was completed. Neither were rock solid refutations of the concerns brought up in the meeting, but because of lack of time… they had to act on the assumption alone.
Eventually, Sarij was able to bring up the actual plan of attack.
Tumblr media
Before the attack a smaller team would set up pearl disruptors around Camp Bluefog and attach a device to the Aetheryte there to temporarily remove it from the aetheryte network. Then the primary attack would have to occur within a few suns to prevent the devices from being discovered.
The Agents would meet at the abandoned mine in Northern Thanalan. From there Sarij and a few others would go to the south to attack the watchtowers and keep forces from the Ceruleum Processing Plant busy while the main force looped around the watchtowers to attack Camp Bluefog. The moment the Agents approach the camp, they would activate the disruptors to prevent communication and additional forces from engaging them. There would be a very short window to kill Iron jaw,
Once Iron Jaw was killed, the Agents were to surrender themselves to the Immortal Flames without a fight. Given that they did not kill any other soldiers they would have an advantage when on trial.
Tumblr media
Naturally, a few of the Agents in the meeting were less than keen on the idea of being arrested. Milo and Autgar suggested disappearing until the whole matter blew over. Aveino interjected to remark it would look better if the entire company surrendered rather than some bolting and becoming wanted. Sarij and Berrod reaffirmed Avenio’s statement along with treason not something that ‘blows over,’ and much of the company came to terms with the fact they would at least spend a night in the gaol.
Slowly the Agents filtered out of the sparring room to ready themselves for the troubles ahead. In the end Sarij and Berrod were the last in the room to discuss what future Sarij had forced upon the company until they too left the estate.

Worthy Challenge
Tumblr media
It was a challenge that overwhelmed most people. They would shy away from it, turn elsewhere for something easier when the prospect was presented to them. Einar was not like most people.
They’d all heard the stories, about all the trouble that went on at the Astral Agency manor. It’s what brought him to this place and what encouraged him to find employment there. What he found was a time a lot quieter than he had anticipated. The gardens were well tended, the stables swept, the pond cleaned; had they all been wrong? Was the Astral Agency infinitely more mundane than the laborers of Ul’dah been lead to believe?
He’d come for a challenge, thought he could put his skills to the ultimate test in an environment that saw constant chaos, and yet the hardest thing he’d had to do since joining was help some miqo’te clear out an old storage room; he was, however, rather proud of the plumbing he’d done to get a bath in that room.
But one fateful day was all it took to ignite that spark within him once more, setting his soul ablaze.
There was an attack on the house, one that caused a significant amount of damage. The whole foyer was destroyed and parts of the library, much of the yard in disarray, and now part of the roof had been destroyed because of some thugs thinking they could bribe the agency for protection money! The more combative members had shown them the error of their ways.
However, that still left the house in very poor shape and even the company director had called for the grounds to be off-limits to non-members for the time being. That didn’t matter too much, as Einar’s time had come, a fierce grin on his face as he approached the manor with his collection of tools and a shipment of materials set to arrive any moment now.
His challenge: repair the Astral Agency house and make it better than ever... And Einar loved a good challenge...

Going to be Ready
So--Iron Jaw was behind it all?
Called it.
He'd said it from the beginning the man was trouble and was too keenly interested in their business. Granted he had put himself into a place where no one would have listened and that was admittedly his own fault but--well, we all make mistakes. What mattered now was that they were going to be ready to deal with him when the time came. And that meant ensuring that he was ready. Now they were taking on the Flames in a manner of speaking, or at the least all the bureaurocratic powers of the Flames. And if there was one thing Tarot really wasn't fond of (when it was used against him) it was red tape.
The thing was that when this was over, so far as he could calculate, they would be through with everything and could start anew. But for now--focus on the task at hand.
Safe houses? Secured and ready to take in guests.
Shop? Closed up tighter than a drum and all 'questionable' materials placed into storage for the time being.
Reputation? Spotless--essentially.
Training? Well, he'd been doing a lot of that--like now even. Berrod had left him with some fairly decent new exercises to go over and a few new tricks to try and master. He liked those--they involved knocking things and people off their feet and even though Berrod had made it very clear that it was a last resort sort of thing...well, Tarot had always been the kind of man to use what he was given in all manner of creative ways. And so here he was, attempting to do what he'd been trying to master for moons now. He took a deep breath--and set his feet. The staff went up, down and tipped into the ground--he propelled himself upwards in flow of the arc and the momentum and into the air, legs up, arms down and grasping the end of the pole--he stopped midway, balanced.
The pole was perfectly perpendicular with the ground now and his body aligned with his weapon. Balanced--both hands holding fast, maintaining that balance. His eyes closed and he breathed. He didn't try to call in a 'breath' this time--just his own, unaided breathing. Stillness and balance. When the staff moved, he shifted to keep control--when it felt like his arms were going to give out, he forced himself to focus on other things. The Free Company, the things they were facing--treasure hunting.
That schmuck, Iron Jaw and all the shite he'd ruined. The pisser was that it was all for nothing--Tarot was confident of that. The man had picked the wrong Company to get 'interested' in and would likely end up paying the price in some way. Even if he took away their ability to be a Free Company, the man couldn't take away their bonds. Even if he killed them--however unlikely--he'd have other people hammering down his door for blood. The man had nowhere to go but down.
"And I'll be happy to be the lift operator..."

Owner of a Lonely Heart
Tumblr media
He screamed.
Again
It was all he had as he felt the burning, biting pain and the lights before his eyes. They sang to him, they shouted and called his name over and over again.
Why do lovely flowers bloom from the cherry tree? Children of seven, waking smile at the sun. The song was there in his ears and the shouting and the burning and the smoke and the fire. Fire so much fire. Fire everywhere and no where. Legs in pain, lungs heaving for air. Breath breath breath cough choke die.
Why do crimson branches dance in the village streets? Children of 7 singing, call down the wind. Clutching cloying tasting bleeding burning dying living gouging. Touching and tearing and weeping. Sweet flower, sweet flower take me away please to far away lands. The sea is where they came from smoke riding--sweeping like foam in the air. Flower, flower flower drifting drifting. Ink spilled silk ruined feathers dashed money made. Flowers so expensive a bundle here a bundle there and touch of happiness for a time.
Why do wilting flowers fall from the cherry tree? Children of 7 dying to wake once more.
Taste of freedom came with snow. Snow in the clothes snow in the toes snow in the mouth. Sweet wanderer across the sea to mountains high and valleys low and the snow for the tongue the promise of joy ojy yoj everlasting to sweet sweet oblivion. Kill for the sweet to reclaim he joy that they die die die die eid edi
He screamed again and Nocturne shuddered. The man roared against the shackled that held him to the bed, the soft restrains binding the captive as more of the need left him--there was more poison here than simply whatever it was that the Followers had fed him. His mouth had to be gagged for fear he’d bite his own tongue off in his roiling pains and throes of withdrawal.
“Be silent, please.”
His hand hovered on the knife on his belt. It would be a mercy--if he ever recovered Oda would never live with himself for what he had become. Eyes sunken and touched with the desperation and hunger only a visitor of the dens could ever know. It wouldn’t be painful. Swift and silent. His pain ended and misery and memory brought to silent bliss. A hand trembled as he held fast the tattered and stained and ruined silken sash that bore the clan’s standard. Using that hand he forced the other to keep the weapon where it belonged and he turned without another word and returned to his room.Silence--so very silent. He shut the door behind him and listened the the unheard screams from the man in the infirmary. Nocturne felt the woven mat beneath his knees and hot tears on his cheeks. His head touched the floor and he wept, prostrate before the altar. No words no songs--no sounds.

For Coin and Country
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“The judgement of the court stands that your rank be stripped and you being discharged. On top of that I bar you from joining any of the Grand Companies within the Eorzean Alliance, not as punishment but as you are not a man to be a soldier. You are a man that should be free to follow what he believes is right rather than bearing the burden of the oath of a solider.”
Tumblr media
The words stung, but thus was the end of Sergei’s military career. It is said that the what is right isn’t always easy, and the man carried that weight with him as he left the hall that had been a home to him for a decade. A free man, but a dismissed man.

Incarcerated
Tumblr media
Viktor sat slumped in the corner of his cell. Another sun passed with no word from the outside world. He counted the stones in the wall following the various cracks like a map and creating a route from the ceiling to the floor and back up again. The guards had told him he could receive visitors but no one had come to visit him in this hole. The guards reminded him of this fact every day with sneers, mocking him and counting down the suns to his judgement where he would be surely executed for the murders he didn't commit.  He knew they weren't lying about his visitation rights though so why hadn't he heard from anyone? Once more he started at the top of the wall finding a new path with the cracks to the floor. Maybe he just wasn't worth the trip or maybe no one had the guts to tell him that they weren't getting him out. Surely his bonded would have come to check in on him. Viktor sighed as his concentration on the wall broke with a knock on his cell door. A jingle of keys and a tray of meager bread and tasteless slop. He scarfed it down quickly and began his nightly routine of workouts to wear him out enough to get some sleep on the rough cot in the corner. @astralagency

Student, dependent, or slave? (IC Post)
Tumblr media
“I’ve been mulling over this for a few weeks now, but I’ve finally decided to just confront this head on. I just had to know.  Shizu believes that my good friend Eligor is a slaver to a young Au Ra named Veldi. And so I simply asked Eligor, “What is she to you?  A student, a dependent, or a slave?” And it was as I believed. I will take his word over hers, after all. I know him a lot better, and trust him with my life.” “There’s a whole set of circumstances that I won’t get into that has caused this misunderstanding, but I hope it works out in the end.  Eli seems... tired.  As much as I like playing hero, I can’t do much to save him this time, if necessary.  His family issues are a constant thing these days, and I can tell it’s wearing on him.  He’s not a slaver to Veldi, he’s trying to free her.  Though, the path to that freedom looks like his own self destruction.  His constant wounds he is receiving doesn’t really help, either.  I thought about asking him for assistance this one last time with this Amalj’aa issue I’ve had.  He’s helped me throughout this ordeal so far, but I may have to decline asking for his help again.  He doesn’t need the additional stress.”
“He did give me something to think about after I told him about the voices returning.  He said that maybe I should just go crazy.  That I should just succumb to the madness, then make it my own.  Control it, and will it.  Isn’t this what I’ve been training for as a Fist anyway?”

The Hidden Lab
Suwan lifted a book titled “Advanced Aetherology” from the tall bookshelves of the Occult Curioso. There was a soft clicking sound and then a small door appeared and opened behind the bookshelves.
Suwan walked down a long narrow corridor. The stone walls had Concealment and Protective Wards written on them. The hallway led to a dimly lit Laboratory. There were glass tubes and jars of different shapes set in a row on mounted shelves. Each tube had handwritten labels that read: Ichor of Rysswilf, Dust of Lady Black, Avis Wing of Zeviagoth, Wraith Cloth of Anterus; Alpha Hair of The Heirs.
To the left of the shelves were large murals with Geometric Array Diagrams and Conjurer Glyphs tacked on the walls. Stacks of rolled up scrolls filled with notes were organized neatly in woven baskets under the mounted shelves. Some of the scrolls had labels that read: Crystal Tombstones, The Yacht, The Circle of Anterus, Aetherial Sea Tower, Joining Rituals. Suwan grabbed an unsealed scroll labeled; Astral Agents Estate Map.
Suwan took a Card from his jacket and laid it on the Agency Map. The Card spun around floating in the air and glowed with Celestial Aether. Using a magnifying glass and a quill Suwan made tick marks on several different points on the Estate Map.
After a bell Suwan closed his eyes and reached out to Sergei with his mind. “”Sergei I have located the structural weak points of the Agency Estate. Expect a delivery in two bells. Please forward the information to Gideon and let Director Sarij know…””

Bears, Bugs, and Blades
Tumblr media
The Astral Agents, under probationary status with the Immortal Flames, were handed a task from the re-budding nation of Ala Mhigo. With the whirlwind series of events which now has the nation in need of supplies for rebuilding and growing, trade routes are vital. Unfortunately recently a particular route seemed to have become a target of preying beasts hoping for an easy meal in the rough environment of Gyr Abania. The Antlion aggression became so intense it forced some native bears to move to the ruins of Bittermill as a new den, which cut off two routes for trade.
Tumblr media
Suwan, Khaisan, Reks, and Viktor answered the call for the job, their first task being eliminating the monstrous bears from Bittermill. The group took the beasts off guard and were only forced to slay one of the creatures before the remaining fled with their offspring. Despite the bears treating the hamlet as their den, no convoys had been harmed by the furry residents.
Tumblr media
Sadly, once the group continued to location known for Antlion attacks they found the remains of a convoy. The supplies were unharmed and even the dead chocobo and body of the driver were untouched beyond the strikes that slew them. Khaisan and Viktor came to the conclusion it was very odd behavior only moments before the group were attacked from below by withered looking vilekin. The Agents were not quite as lucky as they were with the bears, but only minor injuries were inflicted on the small group.
Tumblr media
During the attack, Reks was stabbed by shrapnel of a blade that was inside the antlion. For a moment the Miqo’te felt a pressure trying to guide him to kill, but the overall the presence was far to weak. Once the vilekin were put down, Suwan and Khaisan retrieved four other scimitars that had been skewered into the backs of the antlions. The blades bore aetheric arrays, but otherwise seemed innocuous. The gathered group decided the weapons likely were responsible for the odd behavior of the beasts and returned to the estate with the weapons after dropping off the body of the fallen driver and the supplies back at Castrum Oriens. Director Sarij ordered Reks to lock the weapons away until he could speak to the Immortal Flames and get their orders.

It All Comes Home
The Astral Agency were milling about their estate in relative peace. The plans were underway for dealing with the Broker’s deal and each group having their own objectives to deal with the growing problems with the Agents being set up by the mysterious group trying to bring the Astral Agency down. Unfortunately, whomever was attempting to end the Agents did not leave them to their own devices.
The doors to Astral Place were kicked in by an Immortal Flames contingent under the leadership of Iron Jaw. The presence of Iron Jaw and the explosive entrance took the Agents by surprise, considering Iron Jaw had been working with them to undermine the underhanded actions by whomever had it out for Agents. After some very heated words lobbed at the Immortal Flames and Grand Companies in general, Flame Marshal Iron Jaw presented the four reasons he was at the Agent estate with an armed escort.
Four Arrests.
Balthius Stark was charged with assisting terrorists with the damaging of the Lady Dawn and assassination of Captain Bloodied Heart. At first he feigned ignorance as to who this /Balthius/ was, but Berrod interceded and encouraged him to turn himself in. Reluctantly Balthius was cuffed and set aside.
Viktor Harlenk, who was absent for the moment, was charged with the murder of Black Knife and Deadly Tiger and for being a member of the assassination guild ‘Spinner’s Shears.’ Sergei Harlenk nearly lost his cool as his spouse was accused of crimes he was certain Viktor did not commit. Iron Jaw required assurances from Reks Blanc or Sergei Harlenk that they would have Viktor turn himself in to the Hall of the Flames. Though, that ended up being unnecessary as Iron Jaw caught Viktor returning to Ul’dah at the airship landing a bell later.
The final two arrests were for Cerina Borlaaq and Berrod Armstrong for summoning a primal, concealing a primal, suspicion of being tempered, consorting with active Garlean agents, and housing voidsent.  Immediately the all of the gathered Agents protested and some even threatened violence. Flame Marshal gave the Astral Agents a stack of evidence against the company. The documents almost were a play by play of the history of the questionable activities Agents had in the past.
Tempers boiled to a near explosive level, but Berrod and Cerina ended up surrendering themselves over the Immortal Flames and were marched out of the company. Before he departed, Iron Jaw warned the Astral Agents that he would only be able to delay trials for so long. The arrested parties would be found guilty unless the Agents were able provide some counter evidence, but he would do his best to create as much red tape as he could to slow down the process.
Tumblr media
Once he left the Agents quickly attempted to reorganize authority so that they could manage the company going forward without Cerina or Berrod. Lurial, Reks, and Sergei attempted to create a plan. Crooked Tarot led scouring the estate for bugs or moles. Most of the Agents also turned in their pearls out of fear of them being tampered with but Broker’s suspected operatives.
However, the Broker cares not for the Agents; current situation and expects their answer soon.

A Night Out
Tumblr media
Einar loved to work, enjoyed a hard day’s labor and the satisfaction of a job well done, but even someone who enjoyed being productive needed some time off.
To that end, the highlander found himself in want of a good bar to spend the evening at and the Burly Barnacle was just opening its doors for the evening. He was never much of a bar-hopping man, though he could handle his alcohol quite well, but it seemed like a cozy enough establishment and the staff was quite the eye-full as well. The moment he’d walked in the door, he was greeted by a large roegadyn in seafaring dress. He’d offered the larger man a grin as he took his place at the bar and ordered the soup and pie for dinner. Both were meals on their own, but Einar had an appetite as big as his smile.
As he ate, he took the time to chat with the workers, ordering up whatever drink one of the roegadyn preferred the most. The drink turned out to be a black, syrupy ale that tastes a bit like tar. While most would think it’d be better used surfacing the hull of a ship, Einar drank the whole thing in a single swallow and asked for another.
He was quick to chat and enjoyed meeting the new people, exchanging a few words with a fellow member of the Agency: Tarot. They ate and drank and enjoyed each other’s company as two more from the agency eventually joined as well, the lady Cerina and Osric. When spirits were high and ale was flowing freely, Tarot and Osric chose to take to the stage and tell jokes.
Einar hardly understood most of them, but the few he did get earned the other men his laugh, spending the rest of the evening nursing one last glass of the dark mystery ale. The food was fantastic as well, enjoying every bite of it, and as the night began to wind down, he started to wonder which of his old friends might be interested in joining him for a night at the tavern when next it opened...

A Moogle Borne Missive
“Message for ya, kupo!” Moggie wasn’t particularly fond of Mountain--well, that wasn’t exactly true. He was alright with Mountain because the man had liquor. And GOOD liquor. Like REALLY good. But the trouble was he was stingy with it. Like REALLY stingy. Like, ‘Lock it up in a secret place and leave all kinds of things that could set a moogle’s pom ablaze for looking at it the wrong way, kupo’ levels of ‘Stingy’. Really it wasn’t that awful and it’s not like the man couldn’t buy more if he wanted to but Moggie Moglin was but a humble mog and couldn’t just totter off to the vineyards anytime he pleased! And who was he to say that he couldn’t have any on occasion, kupo? Damn his eyes. What made matters worse was that Moggie knew that asking politely would land him that sweet sweet nectar most times out of not and it was a burning ember in his pom to know that being polite was the answer and that Old Blue knew how much it ate him up inside. It was enough to wish Good King Moogle Mog XII (may his fur remain ever pristine), would come down and tell the smug roe what was what! That would put him in his proper place, it would, and no mistake! But he was getting distracted. As the little creature handed over the envelope from Tarot to Mountain, his beady little eyes searched the Roegadyn’s face for signs of anything; he was good at reading people, just as much as Tarot was and he was to report back any and all signs of anything that went across the man’s face. “Ye hae ony o' that guid stuff fur me? Tipping isnae juist a toon in Othard, ye ken, kupo!” [Translation: I know you have that liquor I like and I would very much appreciate it, dear ser, if you would use it as a tip for my services, kupo.] And yes, he was trying a new dialect and no, he didn’t think it was ridiculous. And yes, if you said anything about it, you’d meet the heavy end of Moggie’s Mallet, ‘ye ken’? “Ah mean, if ye dae hae some fur a brassic, humble moogle that wid be juist bonnie, ye see, sin ah haven't hud ony in sae gey lang, please, kupo...” [Translation: Please please please please may I have some liquor I promise it won’t go to waste and I think I may in fact be dying so please save my life.] The message itself was very simple and straightforward: --------------- “I found her, Blue, and all in one piece, both in body and mind. She gave me a general idea of what was going on--I’ll break it down below but the fact is we have a tentative ally. She doesn’t really want anything to do with us personally but she does share our goal possibly. I’ll be keeping in touch (and an eye) on her for any signs she’s been compromised but for the time being I think we’re alright. (Here there was a break in the flow of the message and instead was an itemized list of facts.) The tree is gone, of course, but she explained that aether was being sent to and from the tree in a manner similar to an aetheryte. That’s stopped now that the tree’s been dealt with but the aether remains. I was given a pair of goggles that allows me to see ‘it’. What I can only guess is its true form. I don’t like it, Blue. It looks alien and unnatural. It doesn’t belong here. I’ve included a sketch. There have been no other refugees coming to join their ranks. G supposed that they got scared off by the fighting and bloodshed. I think we need to make damn sure that there are no more gardens. It’s all too possible that these people have been creating a network of gardens to get to various points of the land without being seen--temporary, artificial ‘aetheryte’ spots that can be easily removed when they’re no longer needed; worse, they can use that tree and other trees to access the aethernet. This is about all I was able to get before I needed to return. I have the goggles and will be keeping a hold of them, if you please, though I don’t mind sharing them if we need too. The Phoenix P.S. Thank you for letting me look for G. I know it’s possible that she may be compromised in some way and if it happens I’m ready to deal with it but for the time being it was nice to just pretend like things were normal. P.P.S. The weather continues: charming. ---------------- It could be supposed that the writer put in that last part as a means to distract himself from thoughts he didn’t want to think about. @astralagents

Foreign Parts
"I don't hold with it, these foreign parts." "You've been to Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah and even Idyllshire. That's foreign!" "That's not foreign parts. That's just--a long way off, that's not foreign. Foreign parts are where they gabble at you in strange lingo and eat foreign muck and worship--you know. Objects," said Gannet Fenstanton, good-will diplomat. "Foreign parts can be quite close too if you're not careful." The witches all looked at the red-haired man, who was self-assuredly stirring the cauldron. Gannet had been in a bleaker mood than usual ever since he'd gotten back from helping those Agents with that last job, the one where they went to help some man named Gideon or some such get free from having his soul taken by his old tutor. Gannet was an excellent sulker, he'd nearly turned it into a profession he could charge for; at the present, however, he was turning it all inwards which was never a good sign. Of course, they all knew why he was acting this way. He'd had to reveal he wasn't nearly as terrifying as he wished people thought he was, or rather, not in the way he wished they did. Gannet was a firm believer that respect was a dish best served with a side of fear and most everyone thought a witch consorted with the demons of the Hells and could turn a man into a toad with a word. That last part was true and while the first might be for others, no real upstanding witch with half a mind would consort with Voidsent--they simply knew Voidsent were nothing to be afraid of was all. Unfortunately for Gannet, he had been forced to admit aloud that he had no such pacts with any such beings which, naturally, left him feeling as exposed as a streaker in Ishgard--cold, humiliated and like important parts were about to fall off. "I don't think it really matters if its foreign or not," said Missus Pinte, a middled-aged wise-woman that had made her name by being the best chocobo witch in this side of the Wall. "It's just another place that has things that need doing and so someone needs to go do them." Gannet loathed her. She was simplistically practical when he didn't want to be. "And you're the only one that really has anyone what can take you over there, my lad." Brother Mars, who had been reservedly quiet during this entire discussion and coven so far finally spoke, turning his bound eyes towards (and by towards, it should be clarified as 'downwards') at Gugubu Gubu, the lalafell that acted as the sole representative of that race in their collection of witchcraft (though none of them held that against her). "Did you bring the biscuits?" "Well now, I thought I'd forgotten something! I'll lose me own head next...!" the elderly woman of a lalafell mumbled, fishing in her pockets for the biscuits she knew weren't there. "I have a toffee. It's only been in my pocket for a week or so...!" Gugubu had the habit of speaking loudly at first and then trailing off into an almost inaudible mumble by the end. "It's not like it was my turn to bring them anyroad, that's what I'm saying....It ain't like it was my turn, that's all I'm saying..." "That's alright. I was asking merely for information," Brother Mars calmly replied. Gannet's brow quirked at that--information was lethal in Brother Mars' hands. When you didn't have eyes, you had to make up for it elsewhere. "Gannet, I don't think you need to speak ill of foreign lands. I actually was going to say that I'd prefer you didn't go. It's best you remain here and keep an eye on things." "What?" The entire coven fell silent, the gossiping and rumor-mongering screeching to a halt. Everyone knew you didn't tell Gannet what he could or couldn't do. "I am saying that you will be better served to remain here instead of travelling to foreign parts. As a matter of fact, I'm forbidding you to go." There was a pregnant pause before he added, "And don't think of going to your Agent friends for help on it either. This is my final word on the matter. I'll get someone else to go for us." Everyone knew you didn't tell Gannet not to go somewhere. It was the fastest way to see to it that he did go there or did do the thing just to spite you. As it had been explained to them once by Brother Mars, it was a matter of 'psycholology' or 'Mindomancy'--that his eggo wouldn't stand for being told what he could or couldn't do. It had always worked for Brother Mars in the past and he saw no reason to stop now or any time soon. "Well. Fine then. I suppose I'll just go home and start packing." "I believe I just told you--" "Oh I heard you. And I ain't packing for foreign parts. I'm packing for--closer parts. Parts that are--you know. Not-foreign." Gannet tugged on the brim of his hat and turned, leaving the fire and the cauldron and the coven behind on their little spot on the hill in the forest and made his way back to his home. "He really does have a big eggo," Missus Pinte remarked as he disappeared from view. "I mean, he's sharp as a tack but that eggo of his..." "It's what makes him such a good witch, Missus Pinte. You need a will like that to get done the things that need to be done," Brother Mars remarked, taking up his mug and drinking a long draught of his tea from it. "It ain't like it's my turn to bring them....ain't been my turn in three moons..." mumbled Gugubu to herself, jabbing the fire with a stick, sulkily. @astralagents
