The biggest tragedy of Jayce's raid on the shimmer refinery wasn't just that he killed Renni's son, it's that that kid died slowly without any sort of comfort or aid. That boy was alive and wheezing by the time when Jayce and Vi slowly (kind of reluctantly) made it down to the ground floor and was still alive enough for Jayce to look directly at him as the light left his eyes.

What's worse is that he died surrounded by shimmer, a single drop could have saved his life! Anybody at the refinery that could have helped him, even in theory, was held at gunpoint by the Enforcers Jayce and Vi brought and could only watch him die. And then his body's just left there for his mom, Renni, to see. This boy was the kid that pulled the alarm on the Enforcers in the first place, he absolutely knew why shimmer was so important to their operation and once Piotover got involved he's deprived of it's aid.

This was originally supposed to be shorter than it turned out to be. But then these idiots had to go and do things I hadn't planned on and made my life more difficult, and in turn made their own lives more complicated as well. I hope you are still enjoying this. 💜

Summary

Crowley worries. Azariah worries as well. Azariah has a drink to help with the worrying/thinking, and then they actually have a bit of A Talk.

Excerpt:

Then he sat down with his phone and the card - and his gaze once again fell on the stunning Hoya Kerri gracing his coffee table. Was he a fool for considering, for hoping this gift to have a romantic intention?

‘Ask him!’

But he really should apologize first. For having used the poor man without his knowledge or permission like this. That really hadn’t been right, no matter how he looked at it. And he had always thought of himself as a good person deep down. Good people apologized when they made a mistake.

If only he wasn’t feeling so very embarrassed, so ashamed. The thought of talking to Crowley, letting him speak his mind, was–

Courtesy of his mind - and possibly the second glass of that lovely Pinot he may have been drinking a bit quicker than he ought to - the imagined reactions to his misstep were getting increasingly terrible and at times outlandish.

“I could send a text…” Sure, that wasn’t quite as classy and smooth as calling. But much less intimidating.

Finally having come to a decision he could live with, he typed out the message and sent it off without reading over it three dozen times to make sure it’s alright, and he had not misspelled anything. Of course, it only consisted of three words. But simplicity had its own kind of charm, didn’t it?

He nearly jumped out of his skin when the phone, still in his hand, suddenly rang - and subsequently went flying.

He is the head of the British Naval Fleet in his province, hired by Duke Matthias to hunt down the Golden Phoenix Gang and bring his son Prince Benjamin back alive. His methods of doing this are….unethical in the VERY generous sense, and conniving at the worst. He is a pirate killer, but one who is willing to make deals with pirates and rival ports to satisfy his own political agenda. After all, how does one challenge a chaotic, crazy captain like Peter Hart? With an equally chaotic (and possibly crazier) Baron.
