Moment of peace, extreme weaving close up edition. I was going to put music on this one but the sound was too good. Take a breath, friends 🧡

I finally got my inklette loom! I bought it second hand, but it was only used once and has all the original packaging and materials.
So, I immediately set out to make some heddles/leashes! I know I'm not doing it like it is supposed to be done,, but I find this way to be easier. I'm making way too many (40-50 probably), so I have some in stock for broken/lost leashes.
I already have the pattern I want to try first written out, so I will be getting to that later tonight/tomorrow! I'm so excited!

I'm trying my hand at Ashford's Bronson Weave scarf for my second ever weaving project and I'm so excited!
It requires picking up some of the warp threads and beating more firmly during that part of the pattern -previously I did a plain weave scarf so we'll see how it goes!
I chose some nice yarns I've been holding onto since the old craft store in town was closing out and the 7.5dpi heddle that was included in my SampleIt Loom.
I won't get started on actually weaving until probably Tuesday, but's all ready for me to start whenever :)
(I fixed the scrap yarn weft so it was a lot closer to the front warp bar after this picture)

First try at weaving
I finally received my new SampleIt loom from Ashford. This is plain weave made with an acrylic yarn. Not totally straight, but happy with the outcome since it was a first. It takes a lot to start the weaving I must say. A practise in patience for sure. I did everything right, except - I did it in the opposite way. So, I had to weave from the wrong direction he he.

This arrived yesterday! Unfortunately my assistant in loom construction is rather unwell so assembly will need to wait.

loom angst again sorry
>:( if that louet erica weren't 30cm it would be perfect. i could even go pick it up on the commuter rail line
is it stupid to buy a loom if i'm planning to replace it with the 50cm version of itself, possibly quite soon/as soon as i get frustrated with only making 9" wide fabric. i'd currently be getting a good deal on the loom + stand, but i'd have to resell the loom for pretty close to its original sale price in order to have meaningfully saved money on the accessories it comes with after buying a new one, & i really don't think that's realistic. so i'm going to go with "yes that is dumb" and may just buy a new loom at rhinebeck if no one's selling a table loom near here that i can get to and actually would want
#uuuugh i want. loom#the fact that it's not that good a deal if i don't really want the 30cm specifically is helping though. im coming to terms with it#catch me buying an 8 shaft 16" ashford for fucking $975 next week like 'this is a better decision actually!'#it even MIGHT be if i use it for a long time/it fulfills most of my loom desires. but also. yikes#this is even after scouring the guild secondhand listings yes. people mostly aren't selling table looms around here idk#if i had space for a floor loom and owned a car id be all set though.#box opener#theres also a used equip auction at rhinebeck w looms but i am very nervous about saddling myself with something broken/missing parts#and do not want an involuntary third hobby 'finding out how to repair a loom'#i kind of hate building things. i don't want loom repair homework#if youre wondering im feeling pretty chill and positive about everything else in my life#this isn't displacement about something else. im just really stressed out about dropping several hundred dollars on a loom#as a completely voluntary purchase i have no obligation to make.

I made some keychain wristbands from my hand woven band! This one is 13 centimeter long (so 26 cm circumference), the band is +- 2 cm wide. I sewed it partly on my 1897 singer and partly by hand!
I ordered some more (60...) of the clips with D rings, so I'll be able to make more! I'm also currently working on a lesbian themed band 👀
I made the pattern on https://carolingianrealm.blog/PatternGenerator.php , here it is:
If you have any tip for selling crafts, feel free to let me know! I looked at etsy, but it is quite intimidating for someone like me (a beginner who doesn't want to sell professionally). Right now I have some things (this keychain and earrings) on vinted, but that isn't seling at all...
Here are some more pics though!
Thanks for looking at my long post, now on to some more weaving~

I'm getting into weaving, specifically tablet weaving, and I'm really thinking I might just get a rigid heddle loom. They can handle tablet weaving as well as rigid heddle weaving and it would only be a bit more expensive than a dedicated tablet loom. idk, I'm in the throes of that special interest urge to buy everything and learn everything and I genuinely don't know if I even like weaving still
#I mean I do enjoy it#but idk if I enjoy it enough to spend hundreds on specialized equipment#but my god Ashford makes some lustworthy looms

I'm out of work on a sick day today so let's do something cheerful and make a fibre arts post!
Way back when, long before I bought my loom, I had some weaving videos pop up in my YouTube recommended videos. I poked around a bit, curious, and eventually I found the Ashford Wheels and Looms video demonstrating how to weave on one of their SampleIt looms. With chill background music and Kate Sherratt's encouraging instructions it was a great video to come back to when I need to just zone out. Which I did multiple times over the years.
And then one day I was watching it again to kill some time when suddenly I realized: "Hey, I own a rigid heddle loom now. I could totally make that scarf!"
So cue me spending a few days obsessively studying the video to make sure I had all the details right (the video doesn't say but it's the 8" SampleIt) and then off I went to find the yarn. Only to find out that Crystal Palace yarns had shut down at some point in the ten years since the video had been posted.
Oh.
Well, poop.... Okay... Oh, hey. Michigan Fine Yarns has backstock of CP's product lines! So I bought a bunch, paid through the nose for shipping (because Canada. worth it!), and eagerly waited for my supplies.
June of 2022 my yarn order arrives and we're off to the races! Probably the most fun I'd had weaving at that point. The yarns have some fun textures and the colors were totally up my alley. I ended up gifting this one to my best friend's daughter. I've got enough of the yarns left to make a couple more in the future.
So here she is: The Ashford SampleIt tutorial scarf!
Final dimensions: 7.25 inches wide and roughly 74 inches long, including fringe. Woven with a 7.5 dent heddle.
Warp: Crystal Palace's Aria in the colorway Aida. 38% Rayon, 35% Wool, 18% Polyester, 9% Nylon
Weft: Crystal Palace's Sausalito in the colorway 8108. 80% Merino wool, 20% Nylon
