Currently waiting for the first coat of wax (I'm using cutting board wax) to sink into the wood of my new loom stand before I assemble it. Before I started I thought, oh, I haven't waxed the rigid heddle loom since I got it three years ago, maybe I should do that while I have everything out.
One coat of wax on the stand later, not even having buffed it in yet, I remember how much I hate this process. I'll definitely do two coats on the stand, but getting myself to do a third will be a challenge. My fingers already hurt. I'm pretty sure I did three on the rigid heddle, but I gave up after two coats when I did the Inklette.
As for the loom, well. If I do manage it, I'm definitely not disassembling it to wax it, and it's only getting one coat. But honestly I don't think that's happening.
I'm curious, if anyone else has an Ashford, have you sealed the wood or left it unfinished? If you wax it (using the Ashford wax or something else), how often do you reapply? Do you even need to reapply it?

I finally got my inklette loom! I bought it second hand, but it was only used once and has all the original packaging and materials.
So, I immediately set out to make some heddles/leashes! I know I'm not doing it like it is supposed to be done,, but I find this way to be easier. I'm making way too many (40-50 probably), so I have some in stock for broken/lost leashes.
I already have the pattern I want to try first written out, so I will be getting to that later tonight/tomorrow! I'm so excited!

First try at weaving
I finally received my new SampleIt loom from Ashford. This is plain weave made with an acrylic yarn. Not totally straight, but happy with the outcome since it was a first. It takes a lot to start the weaving I must say. A practise in patience for sure. I did everything right, except - I did it in the opposite way. So, I had to weave from the wrong direction he he.

Just finished this up today in time to gift to a coworker for the holidays. She said purple was her favorite color. Hopefully this is purple enough!
Woven with a Caron Blossom cake in the colorway Pansy using the 7.5 dent heddle in my brand new 16inch Ashford SampleIt loom. Finished dimensions: 10x57 inches, plus 3 inch fringes.

loom angst again sorry
>:( if that louet erica weren't 30cm it would be perfect. i could even go pick it up on the commuter rail line
is it stupid to buy a loom if i'm planning to replace it with the 50cm version of itself, possibly quite soon/as soon as i get frustrated with only making 9" wide fabric. i'd currently be getting a good deal on the loom + stand, but i'd have to resell the loom for pretty close to its original sale price in order to have meaningfully saved money on the accessories it comes with after buying a new one, & i really don't think that's realistic. so i'm going to go with "yes that is dumb" and may just buy a new loom at rhinebeck if no one's selling a table loom near here that i can get to and actually would want

I made some keychain wristbands from my hand woven band! This one is 13 centimeter long (so 26 cm circumference), the band is +- 2 cm wide. I sewed it partly on my 1897 singer and partly by hand!
Tumblr media
I ordered some more (60...) of the clips with D rings, so I'll be able to make more! I'm also currently working on a lesbian themed band 👀
I made the pattern on https://carolingianrealm.blog/PatternGenerator.php , here it is:

If you have any tip for selling crafts, feel free to let me know! I looked at etsy, but it is quite intimidating for someone like me (a beginner who doesn't want to sell professionally). Right now I have some things (this keychain and earrings) on vinted, but that isn't seling at all...
Here are some more pics though!

Thanks for looking at my long post, now on to some more weaving~

There's something very pleasing to me about the Ashford RH looms.
And that scarf is stunning. The colors catch the eye and I love that houndstooth pattern.

A bit of silly on the loom - looks better far off than it looks up close so I'm curious to see what I'll think of it once it's finished.

Just finished up this pair of scarves, destined for Ontario and my aunt and uncle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Woven with Lion Brand's WoolEase yarn in Hudson Bay and Fisherman color lines. The scarf on the left has HB as the warp and F as the weft, scarf on the right has those reversed. It's fascinating to see the difference it makes switching those up.
I gave them a wet finish according to the label instructions and they've come out deliciously soft and plush so I'm quite thrilled with the results.
Equipment: 5 dent heddle in a 16" SampleIt loom.
Final dimensions: 57" long(64" with the fringes included) , 10.5" wide
