I've said it before and I'll say it again, being an aspec exclusionist requires you to not listen to your fellow queers. The people most qualified to judge whether being aspec is comparable to being any other flavour of queer are those who are both, and we've been very clear about our aspec orientations being just as queer as the rest of our identity. I've been talking about it for years and I'm nowhere close to being a "community elder". There are plenty of people who have been speaking on this topic for far longer than I have even been aromantic.

To ignore us when we speak about our own lived experience requires the sheer arrogance to say "No, I think I know better what being aspec must really be like than any of you, despite not being aspec myself". It requires an unwavering belief that we are all either wrong about our own experiences or lying.

In short, it requires one to be an absolute fucking clown.

"Validity" should not have to be given. "Validity" should not have to be declared by the majority. "Validity" is a made-up qualifier and positions whoever is outside that label as having needed to give approval for someone to exist and take part. I am not "valid", because I was already here. We were already here, approved or unapproved.

Every microlabel, allospec identities of all kinds, the loveless, the aspec-allos, everyone who has ever been the subject of debate or been accused of making us all look bad; the stereotype, the asshole, the mold-breaker, the discourse topic, and the invisible. Validity is sold to us to put down some as pending approval and lift others as the gatekeepers, to pit us against each other to pick each other apart.

Don't seek approval. Just be.
