“We will begin working on the next step tomorrow,” said Tomoe, which sapped any remaining energy from Shinta’s posture.

“If it helps, there are no cliffs involved.”

Shinta’s pained expression made it very clear how little such reassurance affected his hesitation. Still, his hand tightened on his practice sword. 

“It could be worse,” she offered.
