I'm still thinking about the modern au (or prisoner!Bruno au) and how the Madrigals would react when he finally gets released. I've been wanting to write a fic about this for the longest time but idk how wanted or relevant it might be, haha.

I'd imagine it would be Agustín and Félix who would come pick him up from prison, bc, let's be real, no one would be safe with Pepa in the car, especially not before such an emotional moment. Not to mention Pepa would blame herself for what she did in my one-shot where she visits Bruno for the last time.

It's Félix who drives Bruno back home, while Agustín watches over him from the backseat, trying his best to make some lighthearted conversation. But it all turns awkward very quickly since Félix and Agustín can't just brush over what the years of confinement have done to Bruno. They can't just gloss over his drained face, wan gaze and his old clothes that have been out of style for over ten years.

On the other side there's Bruno, whose pulse is rising to his throat as he feels two sets of eyes on him, otherwise so used to being written off as unimportant. He can't get over the looks of thinly-disguised concern on their faces, because how would that connect to his family abandoning him?

He knows he messed up. He knows his family did the right thing when they stopped visiting him.

He knows he deserved it.

So, why is he going back home?

Don't they realize how much of a danger he is to everyone? How much of a burden?

He can't do this to his loved ones.

There are many reasons these have existed through all cultures around the world.

Unfortunately there's also a few reasons some of them have gone out of style. Note not all items in the list below apply to any given article depicted above, and as noted, some items, such as the sari, remain in use today.

Using large squares of fabric takes more cloth (this depends HEAVILY on the individual item being made).

Practicality, many of the items depicted will shift as you move about, the more active you are the harder it may be to keep the clothing in its correct position. While shifting applies to all the items depicted some are designed to minimize this. Others used belts, sashes, or closures such as buttons and ties, to keep them in place. And some just weren't designed for heavy movement.

While there are a multitude of ways to tie a big square, most are designed for a small handful of methods. It may be limited by the size of the fabric, embellishments, or even small amounts of shaping and seaming meant to ease tying or wear.

The need for help to put some of these on. In multigenerational households (such as were the norm in most historical cultures) this wasn't an issue, there was always someone around to help.

Patterned and seamed clothing partially evolved out of an effort to fix the various shortfalls listed here. With the exception of the early 00s low rise jean, you don't risk showing your entire behind to the crowds when wearing pants, regardless of how active you are (the same can't be said for some of those greek and roman outfits...). Nor do I need any assistance putting on a button up blouse and slacks for a day at the office.

All that said, I'm a big fan of bringing back this style of clothing (I say bringing back, but in many places it never left!). It's comfortable and versatile and you don't have to be a seamstress to adjust the fit!
