Artist Profile: Babs
I am a Gundangurra and Croatian creative, based in Dharawal country. I create visual, written and performance art based on my unique positionality and range of interests. A monologue that I wrote and performed received second place at the Wollongong Eisteddfod in 2023. My latest venture “Just Say it project” aims to celebrate the inherent radical potential of acknowledging and celebrating each other's differences and everyone's personal and artistic journeys. I believe that art is based on intention, memory and emotions and that art comes in all forms. I aim to further that belief in this project. When not sketching or writing poems and short stories I can be found boxing, sewing, working on my voice acting skills and volunteering with Driver Reviver and Gulla Nurra National Parks bush care program.
Can be found of Instagram as @Babs61_6 or Cara as @aphantwriter
Just Say It!!!
ART! The creation of an artists soul. Even when showing something the artist hates
and divorces themselves from it is impossible for the artist to leave themselves out of it. Art is inherently vulnerable in all it’s forms. Why is this principle ignored and talked over when it comes to minority groups?
Refusal to associate these minority groups with things you like perpetuates evils like queerphobia, ableism and racism
It pushes the idea that the dominant groups are the default
It erases the identities and experiences of artists and allows weaponization of other identities
Perpetuates the idea that oppressed minorities must be accessible to everyone and that discussing personal experiences is “political: “ it’s only political because you make the politics necessary
Allows dominant groups to feel comfortable appropriating the language and art of oppressed experiences. (you will not die if you vibe with a Blak person)
Especially in collaborative work- focusing on universality strangles the meaning or art.
CALLING ALL CREATIVES! Post under the hashtag #JustSayItProject it can be anything, an embroidery of something that sparks joy, a poem, short story or fan art for a show that impacted you. SHOW US WHO YOU ARE

I am thrilled to share this wonderful profile of my work written by Mary Corbin for the San Francisco publication 48 Hills. Thank you for a thoughtful and perceptive piece! Link in bio. “Carrie Lederer brings the macrocosmic natural world up close and personal, inviting us to step into the magic with her. The artist’s work is a reflection of the world around her, a bridge to life’s less-noticed layers. Her mission is to ignite deeper interaction with the natural world and global community through art. “The implied message of my work is to see the environment—from the darkest recesses of the soil to the cosmos that are beyond our grasp—as part of a greater whole that we are all a part of,” Lederer told 48hills. But for Lederer, nature is more than what is seen: it’s vibration, pitch, and tone. She wants to convey these invisible sensations in both her flat surface work and three-dimensional sculpture.” Do you know about 48 Hills? This online publication is San Francisco’s largest daily, independent community news and culture site, launched by the editors of the legendary SF Bay Guardian alternative weekly newspaper. For almost a decade, 48 Hills has covered local and global music, arts, nightlife, and cultural events from a deep and fiercely independent point of view, as well as reporting on vital news stories and issues, with a diverse array of community voices. Launched in 2013 by Tim Redmond and updated daily, 48 Hills has grown to 35,000 readers a week and covers news, politics, arts, music, nightlife, and a vast array of cultural topics. 48 Hills is entirely community supported. Thank you 48 Hills for all your good work. @48hillssf @mary_corbin11 Images: Studio portrait, Under the Wide Sky, Nature’s Mysterious Conglomerates (Eyes in the Sky) + detail, Botanical Meditations in the Cosmos (detail) Studio portrait: @shannonmcphotos, artwork photography @sibila_savage #bayareaarts #48hills #artreview #artistprofile #natureinspired #surreallandscape #mycorrhizalnetwork #cosmosflowers #fractalartist #gardeninspiration #landofmagic #landofmakebelieve #aboveandbeyond #abstractedlandscape #biophilia #painting #carrielederer (at Oakland, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnxM_vivekZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Oliver Beer and His “Cat Orchestra” Create Cosmic Paintings
Art Maxwell Rabb Portrait of Oliver Beer performing during “Resonance Paintings – Cat Orchestra” at Almine Rech in Tribeca, 2024. Photo by Thomas Barratt. Courtesy of Almine Rech. My current #artistprofile pic was taken in the #oaklawndallas area in Dallas at a #rainbowcrosswalk. It was such a cool thing to come across, as I had only seen a couple of other ones throughout the country. It was with great joy recently to see one painted in #brownsvilletx, (close to where I live) and was excited that I would be able to take my photo there. Well, vandals got to it before I could, painting over it with white paint - a poor, cowardly attempt to erase the gains we have made in the #riograndevalley. I don't know if it has or will be repainted, but I can guarantee that this attack has only done one thing, it has made us stronger and more determined to declare ourselves as #proud. #pride2023 #lovealwayswins

Artist Profile: Juundaal
Image: Meryn Martin, 2020, Sister GlitterNullius X, Plastic-free Biennale, NIRIN, Biennale of Sydney, NSW, 2020, Cockatoo Island, Eora Country.
I am a Yugambeh-Bundjalung & Kannakan woman, living on Wodi Wodi Country of the Dharawal nation. As an emerging artist with a disability, creative courage and determination underpin my approaches and my mentors are integral to the foundation of my practice.
There are enduring themes of identity, Indigeneity, failure, fragility, entangled, challenging and complex relationships in my work. I am interested in how these impact, intersect and become barriers within our environmental crisis context while my art practice functions within the discomfort of decolonisation frameworks. I aim at strengthening the non-Indigenous and Indigenous relationship, negotiating meaningful, respectful space for the revitalisation of Indigenous culture and environmental knowledges. I see these as crucial elements for responding to multi-species devastation in the Anthropocene. One of my primary practice goals is to facilitate socially engaged, collaborative projects that instigate, investigate and challenge multiple environmental and socio-political objectives and processes at once.
Performance, video story-telling, community and social engagement projects ground my cross-disciplinary practice and my performative characters Sister GlitterNullius & Sister Everywhen. I hope to create work that advocates and prioritises Nature, interrogates complex relationships, challenging issues, strengthens community capacity and contributes to social change. I hope to lead with vulnerability and build bridges, not mirrors.

After a quiet few years, producer Sivey is glad to be releasing new music again. His last wave of output was greeted with enthusiasm by fans of the kind of futuristic yet soulful beats championed by artist collectives like Soulection, HW&W and Darker Than Wax. Rooted in hip hop production, Sivey's largely instrumental tracks have brought together elements of millennial R&B, neo-soul, UK garage, 80s funk and jazz fusion. Having found success with a pair of EPs for Los Angeles-based Soulection as well as a number of remixes and features, Sivey was able to bring his sound to venues around the UK and abroad, DJing at shows as far afield as Los Angeles and Tokyo. In the few years since, Sivey has continued to experiment with new ways of exploiting his diverse influences in his productions, bringing some to the forefront and relegating others. As his listening habits became increasingly orientated around jazz and obscure 70s fusion records, his own productions began to reflect the shift, featuring more live instrumentation and jazz-influenced progressions with hints of late 1970s aesthetics. At the same time, various UK artists and labels were hard at work instigating a resurgence of the broken beat genre, a style whose fine balance between musicality and dance-@ability Sivey had always admired. He made his first experiments with the genre in 2017 and found that it mixed perfectly with what he had already been creating. He is now eager to share the results with the world - The music is faster and more syncopated than before, with an emphasis on groove and rhythmic complexity alongside the familiar deep keys and synths of previous productions. @siveybeats Artwork by @nocivo_hq Photography by #artistprofile #artistbio #producer #musicproducer #electronica #electronicmusic #jazzmusic #beats https://www.instagram.com/p/CSKPJPloaBy/?utm_medium=tumblr
