Typical trope of the woman being better at archery than the man but the woman is Merlin and the man is Arthur (and the Knights).
It’s probably a bet or Gwaine trying to flirt with Merlin, or maybe Leon worries about his safety to the point he makes him, but one of the Knights offer to teach Merlin to shoot. They figure he’ll be safe as you normally need some distance to shoot and doesn’t require too much strength. (in the instance of Knights, they tend to not realise that a bow string is very taught and hard to pull if you want to shoot well as they are already sturdy in muscle.)
Gwaine goes to hold onto Merlin’s me show him a proper form but Merlin just scoffs and shoos him away.
Arthur finds it hilarious that Merlin is so confident as he thinks it will be funny to watch him embarrass himself, until he watched Merlin pull the bow with more ease than even the most trained archer.
Cue them watching Merlin shoot every target with as close to perfection as one can get (without controlling the wind).
Putting the bow down and blushing despite his prideful grin, Merlin just shrugs at them as if he didn’t just blow all their minds, “We had survive somehow in the village.”
Gwaine cackles with glee while Leon debates for illy picking up Arthur’s jaw.

Shrek continues to live in Far Far Away Castle with his new family and is expected to fill in the roles of Harold since he’s ill. After many pointless hijinks, Harold succumbs to his illnesses, but names an alternative heir, Arthur, to the throne as Shrek doesn’t want the position. Before Shrek goes to retrieve the heir, Fiona announces that she’s pregnant, altering the ogre as he’s due for parenthood. While the rest is seen as another road trip, Prince Charming, now demoted to a sleazy stage actor, plots to take his position as the king to Far Far Away, planning with the villains of the Poison Apple to start a rebellion.
I’m not sure if it’s even important to say but I will agree that out of all the Shrek movies, this is the black sheep so far.
The story felt weakened where there’s quite a few unfocused subplots occurring, each cluttering the entire feature. We begin with a rather unfunny segment of how an ogre struggles to be a king, before it’s revealed that’s it all for nought and buried under the carpet. I wouldn’t have minded a larger story but neither of these plot points blend in well: they legitimately rehashed one of the villains and his motivations from the previous movie without so much as a difference; Fiona is expecting children but the whole subplot involving her status is horribly sidelined, demoted to a damsel that breaks out without an overall point in the storyline; the main focus is Shrek hating the burden of himself becoming a father, which is touched upon a few times in the story.
A prime example of how the nightmares of being a father involves a literal vision where he’s drowned in an ocean of vomit, scared off by a swarm of ogre babies and is then naked in front of them. We could have that as similar to a comedic route like Po’s nightmare of him being replaced by a radish baby, but then we end with a horrific image of Donkey baring an ogre face. To really reinforce it, there’s several forced lines to reflect on Shrek’s arc, which to me, pales in comparison to the manipulative antagonist and their views on their expectations effecting reality.
Now, this could have been a good arc as Shrek briefly mentions upon his father attempting to murder him, where the original picture book explained how he was literally kicked out of his parents’ house. What the film lacked was a coherent focus and an actual point. The makers seriously thought that Shrek learning how to become friends with the teenaged Arthur was supposed to be a learning point for his parental arc, but then that didn’t go anywhere.
The climax itself was merely attempting to copy the same epic scope of the predecessor’s, acting as a self-worshipping stage show by Charming, further drowned with pitiful jokes and then a somehow convincing redemption talk towards the villains.
What’s so painful about this sequel was how the jokes felt like half-baked first-drafted lines that the writers thought up of. I swore that it mainly focuses on toilet humour more than the first two films, which isn’t a good sign. It didn’t even have the same writers which explained how they tarnished the name of the onion-loving ogre, attempting to extend the same humour from the predecessors and then fail miserably with this slog of a ramble festival.
Let’s start with the first joke that was already doomed from the start, which is ironic as this ruined the whole impact for me, which involves Harold sadly dying, but how they transition from that left an extremely disgust taste; Shrek would sarcastically ask that their distraction better involve dying, before Harold illy confirms his final minutes. From that alone, it completely butchers from what was intended to be a joke, as even dark humour directed to a redeemed father-in-law was unnecessary and distasteful. They also dared to extend the entire time he loses life around thrice in his death bed and decides his last words for his wife was to pay the gardener.
Then, the whole failed attempt at comedy is followed by what was meant to a depressing moment, sending the frog king in a shoebox while the song, Live and Let Die, plays in the background.
No laughs came from me, but pure disdain and disappointment that they went that far. The Shrek movies loved to present dark humour like cooking a dead bird’s eggs, but this felt that they missed the whole point and came up with these so-called jokes without any sort of second thought. Now, there were some good joke potential here and there such as Puss and Donkey swapping bodies and the former tries to do the famous cute-eyed trick only for it to backfire. The Gingerbread Man once saw his own life flash before his eyes, before Pinocchio exaggerated the so-called truth from Charming in a form of stalling.
I think the best joke was a medieval college with some gags to common cliches and even a drug reference at one point. However, like what the rest of the movie’s point, there’s nothing to them.
Sadly, in this instalment, Shrek doesn’t even learn anything that’s to further his development. The idea of him becoming royalty could have amounted to something progressive, but then they dropped the whole ball for him to learn how to be a father. Even with that subplot, it’s barely focused aside from a painful nightmare sequence and a whole rushed connection with Arthur. I don’t buy for a second that Shrek and Arthur were friends at all, where the film sped up the enemies-to-friends archetype. There was a nice line relating to Shrek’s arc from the first two movies, but then the makers threw in one painful joke after the other in order to really sell the point that they understood each-other.
Apparently, this was supposed to collaborate in the arc of Shrek fearing to be a father, but Arthur wasn’t even a child in the first place.
I wondered why did they have to rehash an element from the previous movie by focusing on Prince Charming as the main villain in this sequel. Instead of banishing him from the land or the movie itself, his whole point and motivation were repeated all over again, only that he’s in charge of a whole rebellion of fairy tale villains. To me, Charming failed as a villain, never working as a villain that ruled the land with a fist stronger than iron like Farquard, or a convincing figure like his mother; he was a pathetic mommy’s boy with a demanding and spoilt nature. Personally, I see him more as the lackey rather than the leader.
Donkey and Puss had no point in this film as much as Shrek’s because they’re merely the table scraps of how they were before; two polar opposite animal sidekicks pretty much representing their usefulness when barely needed. Their sole point was to switch voices, but you could easily take that out of the film and receive the same minuscule impact. Fiona got horrifically sidelined as a result, only to have a segment of a break-in with the other princesses, where they revealed their violent sides; with a minuscule amount of focus, I had to compare this with another embarrassing sequel by their rival company, Ralph Breaks the Internet, which at least continued the novelty, at least.
Arthur wasn’t that likeable as he’s just a whiny little underdog throughout the movie, while Merlin is there as a hermit has-been, both voiced by Justin Timberlake and Eric Idle, the former not even sounding at all interested.
Had I really have to rewrite this film, I’d largely focus on Shrek’s own status as the rightful heir to the kingdom, probably clashing with other states like maybe Camelot. Significant changes towards the characters would have Arthur as a younger age if they wanted to save the main’s parental demographic and Fiona accompanying Shrek, despite her condition, similar to how Ellie joined Manny and the gang in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, a better sequel if I could add.
My biggest change would have Charming acting as a lackey, where he could be replaced by a stronger villain that’s royal, such as the Evil Queen or King Midas; instead of completely repeating his motives, Charming could act as a tool towards the villain and be roped into a tyrannical overthrow. Therefore, Charming ends at the conclusion whether he really needs Far Far Away or move on from his mother’s influence and find his own path.
You really don’t need to see this flick. It’s not funny, developed, or anything like the other two. You can skip this aside from the baby ending if you want to see some input to the franchise. In fact, the whole baby segment could have been its own short, as that felt tacked on, similar to its movie’s existence.
Would you like to know how this doesn’t belong a place in the family portrait? It doesn’t even open with the book opening.
Final Rating: F
1/10

Bom dia!
Então qual seria a máxima?
Viver em paz consigo mesmo para estar em paz com o mundo que o cerca!
"Fear kills more dreams than failure ever will"Suzy Kassem( "O medo mata mais que o fracasso para sempre matará")

Brows quirk upward with some surprise when Leo admits she only wanted to go to the village alongside them. They look over at her, eyeing her up and down a little and scrunching his nose. A teasing mirk. "You'd miss a festival in the village just to host something far inferior here? With me?" Lips purse slightly and he gives a hearty laugh. "Have you hit your head?"
It seemed like the most ridiculous thing in the world to him. Why she was so insistent on spending so much time following him around was beyond him. Had she developed a bit of a crush? Like all of the other women who chased him on his heels...? If she had, he didn't want to know about it, that much was for certain. It would spoil their fun.
As the space between them widens the nearer they grow to the castle, the prince looks away, gives a soft hum of thought. He chews the inside of his lip as he stares coldly, the smile again gone from his face at the thought of what he would be returning to. Even though their little walk had been mere metres away from the castle, it had felt a lifetime away. Like their own little private getaway. Time to clear his head. To smile...
"I believe you've done enough falling into me," Arthur states softly, barely sharing a look in her direction. They manage to flash a smile, though it doesn't hold a candle to the genuine smile she had brought out of him before...
"I'm afraid I must. Surely my father will be ready to speak to me..." A beat, looking back up toward the servants that seem to be in search of him, clearing away the remnants of their afternoon tea. They take in a deep breath as they watch for a moment, brows knitting together firmly.
"I'm sure we'll see plenty more of each other," they agree with a slight bow of their head in her direction, hands clasped neatly behind his back. "And when I see you again, I'm sure you'll have plenty of storm clouds to clear from my mind."
He finally turns to face her fully now, reaching out to take her hand delicately in his own. A half-bow at the waist as he lifts her knuckles to his lips and gives them the softest fleeting kiss. She can, more than likely, feel the illy cared for cuts and rigid scar tissue forming on the palm of his hand from the previous evening. But he doesn't seem to care much how his calloused hands contrast so deeply to her own soft gloved ones. There's a bit of warmth in his sad, anxiety-ridden smile that he offers, the only bit of it left in him from her presence before having to depart.
"Thank you. Until we meet again."
When they say they like her smile she feels an incontrollable burning in her cheeks. The sun has done a number on her skin already – taking the paleness of it and tinting it pink – which helps to hide her sudden blushing. She swallows a bit nervously and turns her head to stare the opposite direction of him.
“No!” Leo corrects almost instantly, shaking her head like it’s the most ridiculous suggestion in the world. “I’ve only watched, never allowed to go.” Although she wanted to so badly. They always looked so alive – so fun. The ladies always dancing with much more energy than those of their status were allowed to do. Men singing songs, cheering…
“Well, I’d only like to go if you would be there.” Otherwise she’d have to sneak off alone, and that seemed miserable. Not nearly as miserable as he suddenly looked, though – that sadness drenching his eyes, drowning him back in it. “We can host our own festival here? Just us?”
She’s nearly desperate again to see them smile, like she could singlehandedly scrub away their worry and grief. They’re too close now to prying eyes for her to reach for them again she so folds her hands together, allows more space between them – but not so much that he would be unable to hear her hushed tone.
“Must we part so soon?” The slightest pout on her features, dreading having to find what, or who, waits for her next. “May I see you again before the day ends? We can compare our torments?” She lifts her brows, hoping for a smile.
“Or perhaps I shall fall into you in a darkened stairwell once more?”
