TECHNICAL DREAMING - original art
$900.00
Inspired by a random basquiat piece, I decided to replace elements of the painting with my own objects while retaining the original symmetry between objects in the original paitning.
I would classify this as #PopSurrealism

This is your sign to go do some adventurous learning and go to a museum 🏛 I went to the AIC over the weekend for class and saw many cool medieval things! Lots of reliquaries mostly, various kinds of armor, and some interesting if slightly funny paintings. #studygram #study #studymotivation #studymotivations #studyabroad #studying #studynotes #studyblr #studytime #studytips #studyhistory #studying📚 #artinstituteofchicago #aic #medievaltimes #medievalart #medievalhistory #historylovers #historyfacts #reliquary #armsandarmor #història #artmuseums #studyaccount #studyaesthetic #historynerd #historylesson #historygram #ancienthistory #studygramsbeatthealgorithm (at The Art Institute of Chicago) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co75qz_uhUt/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

James Abbott McNeill Whistler
James Abbott McNeill Whistler participated in the artistic ferment of Paris and London in the late nineteenth century, crafted a distinctive style from diverse sources, and arrived at a version of Post-Impressionism in the mid-1860s a time when most of his contemporaries in the avant-garde were still exploring Realism and Impressionism.
Whistler was greatly influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites paintings and he also shared his enthusiasm for Japanese prints and blue-and-white porcelain. Initially, he merely included Asian costumes and accessories as props in his works but, by the mid-1860s, he adopted Japanese principles of composition and spatial organization. It is worth noting that Whistler invented a monogram signature—a stylized butterfly based on his initials—and always placed it deliberately as a compositional element, not just a maker’s mark. His devotion to overall harmony extended to interior decoration, furniture, and the design of frames and even entire exhibitions.
In 1870s Whistler produced a series of Nocturnes to convey a sense of beauty and tranquillity by night. For him ‘a nocturne is an arrangement of line, form, and colour first.’

This Gigas giant clam is made for human interaction and handling, both containing and bounded by space, this vessel has multiple unique shell forms that take many shapes and are constructed of the lightest clay provided. Clams represent longevity, some living up to 500 years of age. In its natural setting, Clam shows you the power of remaining grounded. It has a highly muscular foot, which the creature extends into adjacent mud or sand for burrowing. An elegant aspect of freshwater Clams is they are hermaphroditic. There’s no need to hunt around for a mate or romance another Clam with a bubble display. They fertilize and keep their eggs in a pouch until the young develop protective shells; it is an excellent illustration of Yin-Yang balance. Placed on the inner most left of the clam is a sea scallop these underwater creatures have photoreceptors serving as part of their natural system of defense. When there is a shift in light, scallop detects it, and acts accordingly, by diving for cover and hiding. As such, these creatures are symbols for self-preservation, survival, and energetic sensitivity. On the right inner side of the clam is a nautilus shell which is a symbol of nature's grace in growth, expansion, and renewal. It is also a symbol of order amidst chaos as reflected in its spiral precision. As the nautilus grows, it does so in direct proportion to its needs and with geometric precision. Then placed delicately on top of the nautilus shell is a star fish. Their bodies have a five-point radial configuration, even if they have over five arms. Spiritually, five is the number of thoughts put to action, independence, non-conformity, versatility, and independence. Starfish can regenerate each of its limbs should they lose one, representing renewal. Lastly the sacred conch shell is an integral part of Hindu symbolic and religious tradition, and God Vishnu, the Creator is always portrayed holding conch in his right hand. Even now, when a conch shell is blown, it is said to purify the environment from all evil effects. I chose this amount and these certain shells to represent each of my siblings and my mother represents the Gigas giant clam containing each shell symbolically in this vessel. This vessel is used as a place to store jewelry. When creating this sculpture, the artist was manifesting a Rocco era aesthetic.
