I worry about losing our humanity when I am told Copilot will make it easy for us to write emails with a personal flair.
I have hope for humanity when someone with diminished communication skills can use AI to help articulate their thoughts.
Use your muscles, mind, and emotions or watch them become atrophied.
If you’re in school and use AI to write that essay or solve that problem, that diploma was not earned by you. It was earned by software in a black box.
AI is a tool that can allow us to extend our reach. When we use it to reach for things within our grasp, our reach is not exercised and it becomes diminished.
Think it can’t happen?
Cars diminished walkable towns.
The internet diminished memorisation.
Both are useful tools. They extend our reach. When we use them to do things we can do, it weakens us.
