My truth is: My Truth Is, a traveling multi-community collaboration with Sanctuaries DC, Center DC, Justice for Muslim Collective, Dar al Hijra Islamic Center, International Muslim Women’s Initiative for Self Empowerment, and Muslim Community Center, centers the narratives of Muslim women in relation to gender and faith. The interactive video recording booth welcomes community members to share their truth and experiences in their own words to cultivate a sense of connectedness and responsibility to each other as we celebrate the uniqueness and diversity of our faith. This evening, we (The Sanctuaries - Washington, DC) did a live art show, including poetry, singing, painting and calligraphy at Reimagining Interfaith event in The George Washington University, Washington, District of Columbia. Reimagine Interfaith is a global event supporting activists and leaders working together in the face of fear to connect with people across faiths and strengthen activist skills. The live painting is a collaboration between the the amazing artist Vy Vu and I. The poem in Arabic reads: كالشمس تعيش ضمائرنا ... ونحب الفرحة لسوانا نتســابق والاكــرم فيـــنا ... إنسان يبني الإنسانا “Like the sun, our consciousness lives. And we love happiness for all others.
