Httyd Dragons A-Z Species 2
The Arsenic Adderwing
(Book Franchise)
Headcanons below the cut
Arsenic Adderwings are an incredibly simple dragon. Their wings and legs are purely vestigial at this point, and they don't have much in the way of brains.
They can emit a simple glow, much like real-world fireflies. This glow is designed to allow them to find each other in the otherwise pitch-black caves they inhabit.
Their skin is semi-permeable, with a slightly warty texture on top. They excrete a clear mucus, which allows them to stick to cave walls. This mucus is highly poisonous, and is deadly to most species if consumed.
Glow-Worms often take up residence in caves alongside Arsenic Adderwings, since the Dragons poisonous nature has most predators steering clear. They can be told apart most easily by the Adderwing's Spade being bright red.
Unfortunately for both species, they have incredibly basal eyes, only capable of detecting light, not colour or movement. This, combined with their incredibly close genetic relations, means they regularly interbreed. These hybrids can sit anywhere between their parents polar-opposite ends of the toxicity spectrum, and that toxicity is not always reflected by the colour of their Spade.
This rampant hybridisation has been particularly devastating to the few particularly entrepreneurial humans who used these mixed-species Cave Colonies to harvest huge numbers of Glow-Worms, which are revered as a delicacy. Those businesses quickly ended when they kept selling "Glow-Worms" that killed people.

Species implemented from the HTTYD books in my EPIC + HTTYD AU
I would like to start this off by making it clear that Iâm not doing Every book species, but rather a select handful of them that I find I can make work in the setting, whether appearances brief or more prevalent. And theyâll also be somewhat similar to their book counterparts, yet also be different, as Iâm moreso making franchise-esque versions of them.
The Arsenic Adderwing, a Tracker-Mystery class, one of the biggest changes from the initial material, now large enough to ride and trainable. They live in mountains, canyons, and caves, alongside the Glowworms they resemble. They are large, yet have no legs, with a red spade shape at the end of their tail, used to dig into prey or enemies. They do glow in the dark, but nowhere near as bright as the Glowworm. Their scales are a light golden-white rather than a pure white like the Glowworm, and they have red glowing eyes rather than yellow ones, but both share a bright glowing golden sail along their back. Much like a Changewing, they shoot out acid that dissolves things, but unlike a Changewingâs acid, theirs cannot dissolve dragonproof metal. Their acid is also a crystal blue in color. They travel in packs, sometimes including Glowworms in them, and hybrids between the two nearly identical species are fairly common. They will eat anything they can catch. They are extremely loyal when trained yet very mischievous. Their eggs almost resemble black pearls, but when they hatch the egg releases a toxic gas. Their toxins can be lethal, as they have a toxic bite.
The Breathquencher, now viewed as a distant cousin of the Slitherwing, being a nonvenomous constrictor. Theyâre a larger species and have bright and colorful scales, which they can change the color of, able to use it for courtships, confusing prey and enemies, and for camouflage. They have eyes in a rich red tone that are piercing and comparable to the color of blood. Their tail ends in a barb, almost like a stinger, yet it doesnât inject anything, rather being used to dig into prey while coiled around it to maximize control, giving the prey less chance of escaping. Their sharp teeth poke out from the top of their mouth, and have a primary focus in fights with eachother over territory. Theyâre very intelligent yet very vain, and have excellent eyesight and smell, even having thermal vision that they can activate whenever that aids in hunting. They tends to be located in cave systems and in dense areas of trees, where they will be up in the large branches. They can unhinge their jaw to swallow larger prey, and much like their Slitherwing cousin, they have wings that fold closer to their bodies. Their spikes stretch past their heads and go a little bit more back, but not much further. Theyâre opportunistic hunters who will eat humans, and whilst it is very difficult, they can be trained. They are a Mystery class.
The Deadly Shadow, a rare three-headed species that can come in a variety of colors, although red, green, purple, and black are the most common as a natural resting color, although they can change color to match their environment and blend in, doing this by heating their scales with lightning and making them almost reflective. They have sharper secondary claws that are retractable, usually used for digging or for a display of dominance with others of their own species. They have poison sacs which connect to their teeth, with each headâs poison doing something different. The left head has paralyzing toxins, the right has toxins that heighten nerve senses, thus making pain feel worse, alongside a secondary ability of making sure that wounds do not seal up, and the middle head has the toxins that will put whatâs bitten out of its misery. All of the heads can shoot both fire and lightning, and much like the Skrill, they can ride lightning to get around much faster. They have excellent vision, thermal vision they can activate and deactivate, can breathe out a smoke that has a calming effect on those that inhale it, and they are large dragons, with their wingspan able to stretch vast areas, and with them being able to grow over 10 feet long. Whilst itâs very difficult due to their abilities, rarity, and sometimes snappy temperament, alongside their almost exclusive location of very high up mountains (with them retreating into the caves of the mountains to lay their eggs), they are trainable, and pose a formidable threat on the battlefield. They are a Mystery-Strike class.
The Doomfang, one of my favorite book dragons, all in all a more haunting species, with deep black scales as dark as an endless night, a bright blue flame that freezes rather than heats, extremely good hunting prowess, with bright green eyes and glossy scales, a head almost like that of the Jurassic Park franchiseâs Iguanodon only more uncanny and with more carnivorous traits. The dragon has a size comparable to an underwater mountain, wings that when spread out can reach both sides of a vast sea channel, the capability to fly although their wings are much better suited for swimming, so large they cannot fit into most harbors, eyes as large as a sleigh, and a 100 meter long prehensile forked pink tongue. They have four legs, huge like the rest of their body and typically only used for fighting others of their own species over territory and mates. They have excellent eyesight, hearing, and scent. They have the ability to hypnotize, yet a weakness in that they are still susceptible to poisons, and much like what happens when another dragon ignites the Red Deathâs fire, a similar yet extremely different effect happens if a frost breathing dragon ignites the Doomfangâs blue flame, with it causing the vast beast to freeze from the inside out. Whilst they are naturally loners except for in the mating seasons of their long-lived species, they have proven to be grateful and loyal when helped, and that can aid in the training of this gigantic species. They are a Tidal-Mystery class.
The Dragon Guardians of Tomorrow, although given a simpler name of Divine Guardian, being believed by many to be protectors of things the gods do not want mortals to find. They can fly at speeds so fast they cannot be seen, and can camouflage their own scales, with are naturally a bright white. They have physically glowing eyes, so bright one cannot meet them, with slit-like pupils much like a catâs. They are known for their wings igniting as they fly, and they tend to live on beaches, although only a few specific ones, where mortals seldom return from, and those who do speak of the glowing dragons that blocked their path. They have X-ray vision and can fly to the highest altitude of any dragon, at such a force that any mortal that goes up there with them will never return back down. They are capable of vocalizing in ultrasonic wavelengths that humans cannot hear, being how they communicate with eachother, but they can also make sounds humans can hear, which are described as loud and haunting. They fly so fast that it is difficult for them to stop suddenly or to turn around, having to put a great deal of effort into doing so. Their direct connection to the gods, which they undisputedly have, whether they are truly preventing mortals from finding things gods donât want them knowing about or not, makes attempting to train them an unwise decision. They are classed as a Mystery-Strike class.
The Driller Dragon, dwelling in caves with ink-black scales that help them hide in the shadows, huge and vicious teeth and claws meant to rip and tear, purple wings with deep black striping, and a large drill-like tooth at the end of their nose that rotates very fast, easily able to be six feet long, and capable of breaking even stone. Their blind spot is the area in between their eyes, which serves as a weaker point and an easy way to take one downâŚ. If you can get past everything else to do so. Whilst theyâre extremely aggressive, they can be trained, and serve as good guards, with surprising speed for their looks, and fairly good hunting ability. They are a Boulder class.
The Eight-legged Battlegore, a rare and large dragon prized for being great in war, coming in a variety of colors. They are capable of shooting out magma, and eat lava and rocks, alongside other, smaller dragons. They have a large frill coming from the back of their head and protecting their weaker neck, much like a triceratops. They have a fairly large nose horn, used for fighting eachother over territory and mates, as well as a few other more cosmetic horns on their head which serve as more of an intimidation factor. There are some species of dragons theyâll fear, like the Red Death and Bewilderbeasts. They are quite quick for their size, both on their feet and in the air, and despite their aggression they are capable of being trained. They are a Boulder-Stoker class dragon. They tend to be found in larger wetlands areas.
The Exterminator, a Mystery-Sharp Class dragon, with black, semi-transparent scales, that their two hearts can be seen through, alongside some parts of their skeletal structure and muscles as well as some other organs. They have extremely long and sharp retractable claws, being able to be retracted independently of eachother or all at once. Their eggs are translucent, becoming more clear as they get closer to hatching. Their eggs can only hatch with heat. Despite being deemed an apex predator, they are actually prey for the Fire Dragon (next on the list). They tend to be extremely aggressive, and yet they are trainable, but only as hatchlings, even then itâs difficult. They live in volcanic regions, and are large enough to ride.
The Fire Dragon, a Stoker class, very rare, living in volcanic areas, the only predator of the Exterminator and whilst they wonât actively seek out doing it, they will eat a human. Theyâre large and can ignite their scales in flames, which are already fairly hot to the touch. Much like the Eruptodon, they have to hatch in a volcano. Itâs unknown if they can be trained, but If they can be itâll pose to be Very difficult.
The Flashfang, one of my favorite book dragons, a thin black dragon too small to be ridden that hunts in a pack similarly to wolves. They have long fangs to fight eachother over mates and to scare off potential predators. Their hooked tail helps them latch onto prey, digging it into them so they canât escape. They are not the best at swimming, and their sharp claws can even tear through steel. Whilst commonly said to be untrainable due to their temperament, this is not true and it is just very difficult. They are often found in marshes and forests, and are very good at tracking prey by their scent. They are a Mystery-Tracker class.
The Flying Gator, a Mystery class often found in marshes. They look much like a winged green alligator, and ambush prey that get close to the water, much like an actual alligator. They use the spade shape at the end of their tails to dig into the flesh of prey and hold them so they donât escape. Their fire is not very powerful, but is still functional. Theyâre opportunistic hunters and not picky about what they eat. They are trainable, despite their temperament, and if properly trained are extremely loyal.
The Glowworm, a Tracker-Mystery class, another one of the biggest changes from the initial material, like the Arsenic Adderwing, it is now large enough to ride and trainable. They live in mountains, canyons, and caves, alongside the Arsenic Adderwings that resemble them. They are large, yet have no legs, with an amber spade shape at the end of their tail, used to dig into enemies and the ground to nest. They glow very bright in the dark. Their scales are a pure white, and they have yellow glowing eyes, and a bright glowing golden sail along their back. They travel in packs, sometimes including Arsenic Adderwings in them, and hybrids between the two nearly identical species are fairly common. They are fairly easy to train, and arenât toxic in the slightest. In the winter, unlike with an Arsenic Adderwing, their scale color actually changes, going from a bright white to a plain grey, with their glowing parts becoming dimmer, this lasting until it becomes warm again. Like Arsenic Adderwings, their wings have golden membranes and they can fly surprisingly fast. They have no defensive blasts or anything.
The Grimler, a Tracker class that lives in the mountains, nearly impossible to train yet under the right circumstances will bond with a human, almost wolf like yet large. They produce a secretion similar to crop milk in order to feed their young, and they have excellent hearing and scent, as well as thermal vision they can activate and deactivate. They mate for life and are very protective of their young. Their curved horn on their snout curves up like a crescent, and the spines running down their back are sharp to the touch. They typically come in tawny, red, golden, brown, grey, and even black or white. Their eyes tend to be blue as hatchlings, and it is rare yet possible for them to retain them as an adult, with them usually becoming yellow, amber, hazel, green, orange, light brown or a rich brown.
The Marsh Tiger, much more sharp-looking than its book counterpart, their claws are webbed and their typically come in colors of red-orange, dusky orange, and even white or a dull yet somewhat deep blue. Their eyes are typically amber in color, although they can be other colors, with blue, red, and brown being uncommon and other colors being rare, and they have black stripes. Their horns are curved, and similarly to a Monstrous Nightmare, pinning their horns helps calm them down. Their tail is long and whip-like, with several spines on it and a hook at the end to grip into what it hits. Their eggs, like their bodies, have black stripes, and secrete a toxin as a defense mechanism, which is similar to a grey tree frogâs toxins, causing extreme discomfort in and around the eyes, nose, and mouth, as well as any injuries. It also tends to cause sneezing when it irritates the nose. Once they hatch, they no longer secrete that toxin, but instead have curved fangs to spray a venom similar to a Spitting Cobraâs, with them aiming for the eyes and the venom causing damage to them, which is usually permanent, and causing extreme pain as well. They tend to be found in bogs, and enjoy wallowing in the mud as well as in rivers. They are trainable, and arenât the most difficult dragon to train, with them just having a stubborn personality and sometimes being a tad bit snappy. They are a Mystery-Tracker class dragon.
The Monster of the Amber-Slavelands, which has now been called the Sandy Devil, a Mystery class dragon, living in underground areas in sand that they make, similarly to the Sandbuster. Their scale color typically pertains to the color of the sand of the beach theyâre living in, with color variations being a traditionally-thought of sandy color, reddish orangish, pink, black, or even a purplish (see purple sand on Wikipedia) or a greenish. Their eyes are typically a striking red tone, with their claws being long and sharp. They have false eyes on the ends of their long prehensile tail, with it meant to look like a dragon head at the end in order to scare off other dragons. Their jaw can unhinge like a snake in order to swallow larger prey. They have very hot fire breath, being white in color, which can turn sand into glass on impact. They have the capability to hypnotize their prey, and have excellent eyesight and can activate thermal vision. Itâs unknown if it can be trained, and if it can be it would be difficult, as Sandy Devils are opportunistic hunters who arenât opposed to eating humans. Unlike the Sandbuster, their skin isnât sensitive to the sunlight, instead their eyes are sensitive to it. Creating them I took inspiration from the base material as well as the Sandbuster and a slight amount with the Glass Caster. I omitted the false eyes on the head and the eyes on the talons because I felt like they wouldnât work out, and I felt as though they could use their thermal vision to see the prey as they have their claws poking out of the sand. Their wings are more built for gliding rather than flying, however, they are fairly good at swimming, which is how they leave to mate.
The Monstrous Strangulator, a Mystery class dragon, one of my favorites from the books, nearly untrainable yet hatchlings are still possible yet immensely difficult to train, underdeveloped wings and legs that are merely vestigial parts left over from their ancestors. Their scales are transparent and white, making them look haunting and almost like a ghost. They have an immensely long prehensile tail with a long spike at the end that injects a bright green toxin, which causes the stung area to stiffen, turn green, and then causes the entire nervous system to shut down. They live in burrows and caves, and are very sensitive to the sunlight. Their head has several bright white eyes that are chilling to look at, invoking a sense of impending doom. Their size is comparable to the Screaming Death, and they tend to swallow their prey alive.
The Mood Dragon, rare and found in forests and mountains, they can change their scales to camouflage, yet the color also changes independently dependant on their emotions, being yellow-gold when happy, violet when mischievous, deep blue-black when angry, orangey-pink when excited, and pale green when nervous. They are excellent hunters, and their size can vary from as small as a Night Terror, to as large as an average human, with a common in between point being the size of a lioness. Their eggs naturally change color to fit their surroundings and camouflage, and their wings are long and elegant. They have thermal vision that they can activate and deactivate at will. They are trainable, and tend to be stubborn yet all in all are loyal to a worthy trainer. They are a Mystery class dragon.
The Poison Darter, a Mystery class dragon, a deep forest green, and living in forests as well. Large fangs built for crushing bones. Their teeth are filled with toxins, and like Grim Gnashers, they can shoot out their teeth (save for their large bone crushing fangs), with them growing many throughout their lifetime. The toxin in their teeth kills smaller creatures, yet can render humans, larger animals, and many dragons unconscious, with the largest creatures being able to walk it off. Whilst very difficult to train, it is possible. They have excellent eyesight and smell.
The Polar Serpent, another one of my favorites from the books, a Strike class dragon, a haunting dragon thatâs smallest size is the size of a panther, with them usually being huge, with a height comparable to that of a fully grown Typhoomerang. Theyâre a bright striking white or an almost glowing silver with faint grey markings on them like wisps of mist. They have a narwhal-like horn that they use not only to break ice and to compete with eachother, but also to harpoon prey and enemies. They shoot white-hot lightning, and tend to bask on icebergs as they observe for prey, which they will quickly ambush. They are fast flyers and can even blend in with the clouds. Their scales reflect the sunlight, making them appear almost glowing. They are one of the dragons that fly to the highest altitudes, being able to reach where the air starts to thin. They are immensely rare and whilst itâs possible to train them, itâs nearly impossible. They have excellent hearing, sight, and an amazing sense of smell. In making them they were not only based on their book counterparts, but also based on the booksâ version of the Silver Phantom, another one of my favorite book dragons.
The Ravenhunter, a Tracker class which naturally feeds on scallops. Theyâre small, comparable in size to a Night Terror, and have a tail that is decently long for their size, as well as hooked at the end to pry open scallops. They are solid black in color, with greenish, teal, or turquoise wing membranes. The plates/spines going down their back are armored to protect them from predators, and their head looks almost like a reptilian version of a ravenâs head, with sharp teeth and piercing eyes. Whilst rare, they can also be a deep cinnamon color, a deep bloody red, or a bright striking white, with their wing membranes being a more complimenting color to match. They have excellent eyesight and are very fast for their size. They are trainable, especially with scallops, and are good aid in hunting and good for use as messengers.
The Rhinoback, a Boulder class dragon, close in size to the Crimson Goregutter yet far more aggressive. Whilst nearly impossible, they can be trained. They tend to have dark coloration, with a dark rust color being very common. Their head, like that of a rhinoceros, has two horns on its snout, which they do use to fight eachother. They are purely carnivorous, save for rocks, and dragon root, dragon nip, and sagefruit all do not work on them. They shoot out magma. They are immensely territorial and will attack any trespassers.
The Rocket Ripper, a Strike class dragon, large in size with large wings to match and a hooked end of their tail meant to latch into the flesh of an enemy. They shoot bolts of very hot blue fire. When flying they fly flat to reduce wind resistance. Their singular pair of legs can fold inward to their body while they fly. They are typically black or dark blue, but can come in other dark colors. They are extremely fast flyers and have good hearing. They are trainable. Due to the way they fly, a rider needs to lie flat on their belly, and specialized saddles are needed.
The Sabre-tooth Driver Dragon, now called the Silver Nightmare. They have snow-white or silver scales, a wreath of horns around their head, and sharp snaggling fangs. They are large enough to ride, and whilst fast on the ground, have a hard time turning due to their bulk. They have excellent hearing, smell, and eyesight, and whilst their speed is comparable to the cheetah on the ground, their flight speed is not the fastest, although they can turn somewhat easier in the air. Theyâre terrifying to watch hunt as they tend to be very brutal with their prey. They are a Tracker class. Theyâre generally untrusting of humans but are trainable.
The Sandshark, a mystery class dragon. They look like a mixture of a Komodo dragon, a wolf, and a shark, yet entirely reptilian. They usually have black scales but can have any dark color. They have webbed feet on their four legs. Their tail ends in a fork. They have a fin like a sharkâs on their head. They âswimâ through the sand, and live in burrows under the sand.
The Scarer, a Mystery class dragon, they are small, about the size of a Speed Stinger, and look like a reptilian bat. They are black with purple wing membranes, the purples varying through many shades. Their sense of smell is excellent and can even detect adrenaline in oneâs bloodstream. They are blind and have poor hearing. They travel in packs and tend to scare their prey in numerous methods in order to scare them until thereâs enough adrenaline, in which after theyâll bite and drink the adrenaline-filled blood. While it is difficult, they are trainable.
The Sharkworm, a Tidal class dragon, similarly to how a Slitherwing mimics a snake, they mimic a shark, save for their wings and legs. Their wings do fold inwards while they swim, with their legs going flat. They typically come in black, dark green, and deep grey. They have a dorsal fin like a shark, which is serrated and sticks out of the water while they swim. Their head is similar to a hammerhead shark, they have retractable jaws similar to a goblin shark, and have five rows of teeth. They can move very quickly on land, able to outrun a human quickly. They breathe fire which is even functional underwater, being water resistant. They arenât the best at surviving outside of the water, and donât have the best cold resistance. They live in the warmer parts of the sea, and are quite vicious in battle. They have excellent smell and hearing. They are often only aggressive to those that are bleeding. They can smell blood from many miles away. Training has proven to be impossible thus far, although they are motivated by food which opens some possibilities.
The Skullion, a Mystery class dragon. They are black and a deep rich purple. They are very rare and highly aggressive, being nearly impossible to train. Their teeth and claws are long and built to kill. Their tail has a spiked end to bash enemies with. They are unable to see, hear, or fly, yet have an extremely good sense of smell. They have specific extra long claws on their front talons to pierce the Achilles tendon of an enemy. They are opportunistic and are willing to eat anything they can take down, usually eating their prey alive. Despite their inability to see, they are nocturnal, presumably inherited from ancestors that could see, and sleep in deep burrows and caves. They commonly eat limpets, as theyâre isolated on one island, save for eggs and individuals captured by dragon hunters, although that really doesnât count.
The Stealth Dragon, a Mystery-Strike class dragon, with its scales constantly reflecting its surroundings, making it invisible. They are large, with curved horns and spines going down their back, which can be felt but not seen, their tail is long and whip-like, with their claws being sharp. They fly silently, and are quick. They shoot out rings of white fire, as well as being able to shoot lightning. They cannot be detected until itâs too late.
The Stink Dragon, now named the Skunkwing. A Stoker-Mystery class. They are small, comparable in size with a speed stinger, and are beautiful, with either orange or white scales that have black stripes. Whilst they have very hot fire, they also have a secondary ability which is where their name is gained from. When threatened, they spray a mist with pinpoint accuracy that leaves a stench so pungent it makes those who smell it nauseous, and the scent can last for an entire week. Whilst they are omnivorous, they typically tend to feeding on fruits, but will gladly snatch a chicken if possible. Theyâre very easy to train, and are loyal to a fault.
The Toxic Nightshade, now larger and able to be ridden, a Mystery class dragon, they are either black or gold, and can have dark purple on them. They have bright purple or green eyes that glow in the dark. They tend to make a distinct clicking noise as communication. Scratching the back of their head calms them. Like the Night Fury, they are dependant on a tail fin, which is almost shaped like an oak leaf. They have many spikes, and a toxic bite which causes hallucinations and paralysis, but after 20 minutes causes death in humans and similar sized creatures, with death being quicker in smaller creatures, and some larger ones taking longer but some of the largest not even dying. They are trainable.
The Vampire Dragon, now called the Nocturne Bloodsucker, a Mystery class dragon. They are about the size of a young Luminous Krayfin, and coming in either black, dark brown, dark grey, and midnight blue. They resemble a mixture of a vampire bat and a wyvern. Their tail is long and prehensile, and they use it to hang upside down. They have two elongated front fangs which they use to bite down and drink blood. They donât have many defenses, so they travel in packs. They are nocturnal and trainable.
The Vampire Spydragon, a Mystery-Tracker class dragon. They have a draconic yet slightly wolf-like appearance, and bat-like wings. They come in black and dark purple, and can camouflage with their surroundings. They have bright red eyes. They have two long serrated canine teeth, which grow indefinitely after lost, and one will break off into a bite wound, injecting a mild toxin, and it can track where its tooth goes. In humans, the toxins cause a lot of bruising, as well as swelling and numbness, this applying to the bite area and the areas around it, and it can also cause amnesia. With dragons, the effects depend on what species of dragon is bitten, but a common trait is lethargy. Staring into their eyes causes disorientation. They can shed their tails as a last resort when trapped. While they are not strict pack animals, they can hunt in groups.
The Venomous Vorpent, a Mystery class dragon. Larger than it is in the books, but not big enough to ride, being closer in size to a hobgobbler except Much thinner. It has a slight bulge on the side of its neck like a lump, mirrored on both sides, these are its toxin sacs, which are a more vulnerable area to attacks, although touching the leaking toxins is a horrible idea as itâll be the same effect as if the dragon were to bite you or sting you. The toxin sacs connect to its teeth and to the end of its tail, where it has an arrowhead-shaped tip with a thin, almost needle-like, spine. This spine is an injector for the toxins, purposefully small as to be able to slip in between the scales of other dragons to pierce them. This toxin causes Vorpentitis, which has the same cold-and-flu symptoms, sore throat, decreased ability to speak, high fever, irritability, emotional extremes, nausea, partial paralysis, and eventual death. The symptoms last for months before the ending death, at least in humans and most medium and small dragons, although small animals only last a few days, and as it works on all dragons, the largest ones can take many years for it to fully take effect. Potatoes are no longer the only cure, with dragon root being another, and the more readily available one for humans in the AU as potatoes wereâŚ. Not in Ancient Greece, however, this does pose an issue for most dragons, due to the effects of dragon root. The Venomous Vorpent has numbing effects in its saliva, which it uses before biting or stinging, so the victim doesnât even know it happened (although many victims would probably know given its size, however it is still possible they wouldnât). They are very difficult to train however feeding them could be useful.
The Wolf-Fang, a Tracker class dragon. They look almost like draconic wolves, but with longer movable claws and with a long prehensile tails. They live in forests and climb in trees, and they travel in packs. Whilst they can fly, they rarely do use their wings, only doing so when it is necessary. They have night vision, their vision being similar to that when one wears night vision goggles, and this is their constant vision. They are nocturnal, and are ambush predators. They have excellent hearing and smell. They kill without mercy, and while it is very difficult to train them, it is not Impossible.

I wrote another httyd books fic because this series is just so underappreciated and i love it so much ok
Read under the cut!!
(hope you enjoy i was v proud)
At precisely sundown every day, Toothless came back to the cliff.
In his youth, they had called it Wild Dragon Cliff--the place where the Viking boys used to climb and steal dragons from the nurseries. It had a new name now--Toothless wasnât sure what it was. He couldnât keep track.
He could feel himself growing slightly older every day--a wrinkled wing, a stiff leg joint. But every day he made the journey, and every day he watched the sunset and thought of the past--of earlier boys and haddock and Dragonese spoken through human lips, of treasure and Romans and onion soup. He thought of books and birthdays and swimming races, forests and chains and Kings and Hiccups.
It was his routine. Heâd done it every single day for who knew how many years.
So you can imagine Toothlessâ surprise when he came back one day and the cliff was not empty.
The first thing that Toothless noticed about the boy was his hair.
It looked like it was standing on end, rather like heâd been electrocuted.
And it was bright red.
Heroic Hair, said a voice in the back of his mind.
That was what drew the dragon closer--the hair. Because it reminded him so much of another boy, another time, another King, that he had to be sure he wasnât dreaming.
Maybe this was a dream. Maybe heâd died and gone to Valhalla and at last here was Hiccup coming out to meet him and the two of them could finally rest.
Toothless stepped closer. The boyâs back was to him, and he was looking down at something in his lap and muttering under his breath in a language that sounded--it sounded like--
Dragonese.
No question, this was Hiccup.
Hiccup! Hiccup who had led a Viking people at the age of fifteen, who Toothless had grown up with, grown old with. Hiccup who was incapable of saying a single mean thing, who fed him mackerel at two in the morning because he asked, who made him a fur jacket during the winter and let him hide in his waistcoat. Hiccup who held him close and scratched him behind the horns as he wrote, told him good jokes and saved him from predators until he was ready to defend himself.
Thor and Loki and Freya and everyone else.Â
Toothless couldnât wait to see him again.
The boy hadnât seen him yet, so engrossed was he in whatever book he was writing.
So Toothless marched right up to him and sat in front of him, grinning eagerly. âFound you.â
The boy screamed and dropped his notebook.
That was when Toothless noticed his helmet looked different--it had four little circular windows on it instead of three, and both the horns were still attached.
And his eyes were green--that was strange. Hiccupâs eyes were blue.
He was small--twelve or thirteen at most. He had freckles clustered around his nose and a skinny frame and long eyelashes, just like Hiccup--not like Hiccup.
Something was wrong.
After the initial scream, the boy had gone quite still, and was staring directly into Toothlessâ eyes with a look of wonderment on his face.Â
Toothless stared back.
He didnât know how many seconds it had been--a minute, maybe--when the boy broke his gaze and rubbed his eyes. âRight,â he muttered. âHypnotic gaze. Iâve got to remember that--â He scribbled a margin note in his notebook.
âH--H--Hiccup?â said Toothless.
âHello,â said the boy cautiously, in broken Dragonese. âWhat--what are you--whatâs your name?â
âToothless,â said Toothless slowly.
âWell, thatâs purple, isnât it?â said the boy. âYou have bones.â
âWhat?â
âSorry--â said the boy. He apologetically switched to Norse. âIâve been trying to teach myself Dragonese--Iâm not quite fluent yet, though--I meant to say that your name is quite strange because you have teeth.â
Toothless said nothing.
The boy made another note in his notebook. Toothless snuck a glance at the paper--a bunch of Dragonese words and phrases in cramped and squished handwriting, a couple of drawings of dragons in the corners. Common or Garden. Deadly Nadder. Arsenic Adderwing.
Sea-Dragon.
âWhat do they call you?â said Toothless curiously.
âIâm--Hiccup,â said the boy. âHiccup Horrendous Haddock. The fourth.â
There was a deep tugging inside Toothlessâ gut--bad mackerel, perhaps.
âThe fourth...â
Oh, if Hiccup could only see him now.
The fourth Accident. The fourth small Hiccup in the gears.
Isnât Fate artistic?
The King was dead. The dragons had begun their retreat. There was only so much time before dragons were gone completely, and here he was, the fourth Hiccup, here to rectify the world, one hundred years too late.
And yet...
Maybe he wasnât too late. Maybe he was right on time.
Maybe he was the one who could save them.
The dragon took another look at the boy--he was small, scrawny. There was a small, familiar-looking iron key clipped to the rope on his waist, a small lobster-claw necklace around his neck, one claw smashed open and one still intact.
And a very familiar sword, long and shiny, sturdy, second-best and best, with a hidden compartment in the hilt and the name and history of Hiccup winding itself up and down the blade.
And quite suddenly Toothless knew, sure as the sky was blue, that Fate had picked up her old pattern again.
âDo I know you?â the boy asked slowly.
Yes. Yes. You know me. You dug me mud-holes. You made me a fur coat. You sailed across the Sullen Sea in a small leaky boat called the Hopeful Puffin to rescue me from Romans. You fed me winkles and talked to me and told me I was a Toothless Daydream.
You saved me from banishment, from an evil witch with poison on her fingers, from a man who lost his limbs and hair and dignity. You lost your memory and crawled your way back from hell and STILL knew exactly who I was as soon as I said my name.
You know me, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock.
You know me. You know me. You know me.
Toothless smiled and shook his head.
âNo.â
