New details about the ongoing investigation published today. Seems like it's gonna take a while until justice is served. As an Argentinian, I'm angry this happened here because the justice system is super bad and slow. I want justice for Liam and closure for his family 🙏🏻😞
www. infobae. com/sociedad/policiales/2024/11/30/el-padre-de-liam-payne-entrego-a-la-justicia-la-principal-prueba-para-imputar-a-rogelio-nores-por-la-muerte-del-cantante/
All of this is so bizarre. Literally every time a new report is released, there's a change in the story. He had sex with the women. No, he didn't. He used a whole bunch of different drugs. No, he didn't. He had trace amounts in his system. No, he didn't. Roger was there. No, he wasn't.
The only clear thing IMO is that Roger is really fucking shady, and he's doing everything he can not to be indicted in this case.
Also, my favorite line in this article is "The croissants were politely rejected."
Liam had started drinking whiskey at 6 a.m. that day, according to the investigators' reconstruction based on information recovered from hotel records. He then drank champagne with the prostitutes from the Buenos Aires towns of El Talar and Isidro Casanova whom he invited to his room, with whom he had sex and then caused a minor scandal in the lobby by not paying them. He consumed cocaine throughout the day; the toxicological analysis carried out by the Forensic Medical Corps of the Supreme Court revealed metabolites of the drug that indicate consumption at least two hours before death. The drug was in his urine, his blood, in his gastric contents, in his nasal passages. The toxicological analysis also revealed another substance: sertraline, a powerful antidepressant, sold in the United States under the brand name Zoloft. Sertraline was found to be present in Liam's blood and stomach contents at the time of his death , according to toxicology . Alcohol consumption with sertraline is strongly contraindicated; it can lead to hallucinations, including suicidal thoughts.
[...]
During his stay in Argentina, Nores accompanied Payne to an important five-star hotel in the Recoleta area, from which he was thrown out, then to an apartment on Armenia Street - which was raided by the courts - later to a polo club and finally to the CasaSur hotel, where Payne checked in at around midnight on October 13. According to the indictment, Nores allegedly controlled Payne's spending, providing him with money to buy drugs and authorizing orders for whiskey and champagne reported from the hotel's front desk, with "allowed days" for drinking and drug use, despite the neuropsychiatrist's strict instructions. Nores even became an intermediary in communication between Liam and his family.
The narrative of sources close to Nores attempts to shift the blame onto the hotel employees in the face of this possibility, even claiming that Liam tried to escape, when the forensic experts determined that he was, at best, in a semi-conscious state at the time of his death. A charge of manslaughter, however, would not alleviate the businessman's situation. [...] Last Thursday, Nores showed up at Court No. 34 with a smile. He brought a dozen croissants for the staff. He was trying to recover a woman’s phone and laptop. The devices had been seized in a raid on her home. According to Nores, the woman was “not even mentioned in the case.” The croissants were politely rejected.

NEW ARTICLE‼️‼️
Translation:
Liam Payne’s father handed over the key evidence to the Justice system to charge Rogelio Nores for the singer’s death.
The American psychiatrist who treated the former One Direction member warned Rogelio Nores in an email that mixing the antidepressant Zoloft with alcohol could be fatal. The victim’s family has filed a lawsuit. A key court hearing is set to determine the case’s future.
In his meetings with the Argentine justice system, Geoff Payne, Liam Payne’s father, provided the key piece of evidence to build the case against businessman Rogelio Nores, who has been charged by prosecutor Andrés Madrea with abandonment leading to death, as well as the provision of narcotics. The evidence is an email dated September 16 of this year, included in the charges filed by prosecutor Madrea, who is tasked with clarifying the circumstances surrounding Payne’s death. The incident occurred a month later when Payne fell from the third-floor balcony of the CasaSur hotel on Costa Rica Street in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires. He landed on the cement base of a garden umbrella, fracturing the base of his skull, an injury that ultimately caused his death.
Liam had started drinking whiskey at 6 a.m. that day, according to the reconstruction by investigators based on information retrieved from hotel records. He later drank champagne with prostitutes from the Buenos Aires localities of El Talar and Isidro Casanova, whom he had invited to his room, had sex with, and then caused a minor scene in the lobby for refusing to pay them. He consumed cocaine throughout the day; the toxicological analysis conducted by the Supreme Court’s Forensic Medical Corps revealed drug metabolites indicating consumption at least two hours before his death. The drug was found in his urine, blood, gastric contents, and nasal cavities. The toxicological analysis also revealed another substance: sertraline, a powerful antidepressant marketed in the United States under the brand name Zoloft.
Sertraline, according to the toxicological report, was present in Liam’s blood and stomach contents at the time of his death. The consumption of alcohol combined with sertraline is strongly contraindicated; it can lead to hallucinations and even suicidal ideation.
The email provided by Geoff Payne to Prosecutor’s Office No. 34, led by Madrea, was written by the Miami-based neuropsychiatrist who had treated his son throughout the year. In the message, the neuropsychiatrist distanced herself from the treatment, stating that it was impossible to support Liam during his crises. She also warned that mixing sertraline with alcohol could be fatal.
The original recipient of that email, according to the Argentine justice system, was Rogelio Nores.
Infobae attempted to speak with Nores this week, as well as his defense lawyer. Both declined to comment. Meanwhile, sources very close to the businessman pointed out that Payne was “just a friend” whom he “had met years ago in England” and that he was simply accompanying him. Madrea suspects otherwise; he believes that Nores was not just a chaperone, but a de facto manager with an interest in Payne’s potential return to the stage. During his stay in Argentina, Nores accompanied Payne to a major five-star hotel in the Recoleta area, from which he was kicked out, then to an apartment on Armenia Street — which was raided by the authorities — later to a polo club, and finally to the CasaSur hotel, where Payne checked in just before midnight on October 13.
According to the accusation, Nores is said to have controlled Payne’s expenses, providing him with money to buy drugs and authorizing requests for whiskey and champagne reported by the hotel front desk, with “allowed days” for drinking and drug use, despite the strict instructions from the neuropsychiatrist. Furthermore, Nores is said to have acted as an intermediary in communication between Liam and his family.
Curiously, these sources close to Nores assert that the businessman met the specialist “once.”
Today, the Payne family is a complainant in the case, which is under the jurisdiction of Court No. 34, led by Laura Bruniard, and is represented by the Marval O’Farrell Mairal law firm, according to judicial sources. The case itself is at a standstill, which prevents, for example, Nores from being questioned, as well as Braian Paz and Ezequiel Pereyra, who are accused of supplying drugs to the former One Direction singer. This standstill is essentially due to the letter of the law.

"The reign of Commodus marked the end of the Golden Age and the beginning of the age of iron and rust". Cassius Dio
Lucius Aelius Aurelius Commodus was born on August 31, 161. Curiously, he was born on the same day and month as 'Caligula', the first assassinated Roman emperor. Commodus was the first emperor to be born the son of the reigning emperor Marcus Aurelius.
Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus ruled together in perfect cooperation for eight years. Verus fought against the Parthians who had threatening to take Syria and Armenia. Returned to Rome and had his triumphal parade without knowing that he and his legions were carrying a virus that arose in the war zone. The plague spread throughout the empire and was the deadliest in Roman history. In 169 Lucius Verus died due this plague.
The boy Commodus
In 172, at age of 11, he received, in the presence of the army in Germania, the title Germanicus (a victory tittle). He participated alongside his father in several battles.
175. His mother, Empress Faustina the Younger, died of natural causes in Cappadocia where she accompanied her husband. On the same year Commodus entered the College of Pontiffs, which was the starting point of his public career.
176. Marcus Aurelius granted him the position of Imperator, and the following year the title Augustus.
In January of 177, at the age of 15 , he became the youngest consul in the history of the Empire.
178. At age of 16 married to Bruttia Crispina, a very rich 13 year old girl from a family close to the imperial Domus since the time of emperor Hadrian.
March 17, 180, Marcus Aurelius died of natural causes and Commodus became sole emperor at the age of 18.
His first measure was to sign peace treaties both with Germanic tribes and some rebellious people of Britannia. This was frowned upon by his contemporaries, but modern historians agree that it was the only good action he ever took during his entire reign.
About his sister.
Lucilla had been co-empress and held the title Augusta along with her mother when she married the co-emperor Lucius Verus. Following Verus' death, Marcus Aurelius married her to senator Tiberius Pompeianus, a man of humble origins and without ambitions. In this way she lost the privileged position that she had.
In the winter of 181-182 Lucilla with her cousins Quadratus Annianus and Ummidia Faustina, her husband's nephew, Quintianus, and her own daughter Plautia, agreed to assassinate Commodus in the exit hallway of Flavian amphitheater (Colosseum) .The one chosen to kill was Quintianus. Incredibly, although proven, Pompeianus was completely unaware of the plot of his wife.
According to historical sources, when Quintiano saw Commodus, instead of stabbing him, slowly took out his dagger, showed it to him and said "The Senate send to you this dagger." Commodus shouted for his guard who immediately arrested him. The names of the involved were quickly known; Quintianus and Quadrato were executed. Lucilla, her daughter, and U. Faustina were sent into exile on Capri but and also executed there.
Following this event, he distanced himself from the elite and began to trust only in people of humble origins, among them Marcus Aurelius Cleander, former slave and freedman of Marcus Aurelius. In a short time he held important positions until he became the head of the Praetorian Guard.
In 187 due his wife's failure to become pregnant, banished her to Capri. 26-year-old Commodus, instead of marrying another aristocratic woman, chooses to have a concubine- Marcia, daughter of a freedwoman of co-emperor Lucius Verus.
The emperor treated her as a wife, so she had the same power and influence as an empress. It is very probable that Marcia was a Christian since she convinced Commodus to implement a pro-Christian policy, and had a close relationship with Victor I , Bishop of Rome.
Villa of the Quintilii and the rebellion of the people.
Commodus and Marcia retired to the lavish Villa of the Quintilii, whose ruins are today an archaeological site. On April of 190 the people had revolted in Rome because of famine.
There is a suspicion that the shortage of food may have been caused by the prefect of Annona (the import and free distribution of grain to the people) Papirius Dionysius who blamed Cleander.
During a horse-race in the Circus Maximus, the audience to rioted against Cleander. He escaped and managed to reach the Villa of the Quintilii to ask the emperor for help, but the mob followed him there. Commodus, fearing the fury of the people, ordered Cleander to be beheaded. He then also ordered the execution of the prefect of Annona Papirius Dionysius.
By then Commodus was already showing signs of an extreme megalomania and paranoia. The list of people executed, accused without evidence of conspiracy, including his own aunt, consuls, senators and praetorians, is endless. Those conspiracies were only in his mind.
He gave himself the title PIUS, title that the Senate had granted to his maternal grandfather the Emperor Antoninus, also added the tittle Felix, and ordered sculptures and busts of himself to be made representing him as Hercules.
Madness and death
He changed the name of Rome to "Comodiana" and announced that a new era was approaching, he called it Saeculum Felix (Happy Century). All months also was renamed with Commodus own names and titles as well of his dynasty; Not even the mystical month of July was saved from this folly.
According to historical sources, he had shaved his beard, which had been in fashion since his grandfather's time, and also changed his thick curly hair for Gladiator curt hair style. Had his own games in which he fought with gladiators, who were forced to consume opium and drink wine excessively to ensure the victory of Commodus.
On December he announced that starting in the new year everything would change in Rome. The final plot to assassinate Commodus began.
The two leaders of the conspiracy was Publius Helvius Pertinax (son of a freedman) prefect of the city of Rome, and the commander of the Praetorian Guard, Quintus Aemilius Leto.
They used as executioners the two people closest to Commodus: his concubine and a freedman athlete named Narcissus, who had trained him as a gladiator, taking advantage of the fact that Marcia was fed up with Commodus and Narcissus was furious at the cheating he had seen during fights against drugged gladiators with dull swords.
During the feast of December 31, Marcia put poison in his food, but Commodus had drunk too much and vomited immediately, so he ended the party and ordered that his bath be prepared.
Then Pertinax and Leto sent Narcissus, who "due to his size and strength he did not need to hide daggers or swords, his hands were enough" (Cassius Dio). Narcissus found emperor in the bathtub and strangled him. Commodus was 31 years old.
On January 193, know as "The year of the five emperors", Praetorian Guard auctioned the throne to the highest bidder; The final price was stipulated at 25,000 sesterces per soldier. Pertinax bought the position of emperor but on March he was also murdered. Then Didius Julianus ruled for a few days, he was assassinated by a soldier.
Pescennius Niger, governor of Syria, Clodius Albinus, governor of Britain, and Septimius Severus, governor of Pannonia, proclaim themselves emperors. The winner of this civil war for imperial power was Septimius Severus. It was the second civil war of the Roman imperial era.
Septimius Severus ,who ruled for 18 years , became the first emperor originally from the province of Africa. Born in Leptis Magna (in modern Libya) was of Berber and Punic origin, and with his wife Julia Domna, a young noblewoman born in Syria and Arab origin, they created the Severan Dynasty.
Commodus was not wrong when he said that from that year on everything would change in Rome.
Septimius Severus ( 193-211 )

ESC 2023 second semifinal just ended. It was.. Well I think it was rather boring. Lot's of ballads, pink shirts and laying on the flor.
Here are my thoughts about the contenders
1. Denmark- I swear that this year there are a lot of cute little boy types. The song was meh
2. Armenia- ballad with a little bit more drama. Nothing shocking.
3. Romania- nice voice. I rated it quite low but I'll have to listen to it again because I remember it was kinda interesting
4. Estonia- self playing piano is what we got burning piano is what we hoped for xP
5. Belgium- finally something different. Kinda felt like a music on the fashion show. It was nice.
6. Cyprus- I swear he summoned every damn wolf in the UK
7. Iceland- literally power ballad. It was quite ok but I think I expect more from Iceland at this point
8. Greece- again healthy dose of rolling in the dirt
9. Poland- to be fair I'm biased because of the shit show that was our preselection this year. But given the competition I think it's ok that we got into the final. I'm not happy that Solo is representing Poland but well... Bejba its kajnda krejza X'D
10. Slovenia- reminded me a little bit of Maneskin but in much softer way
11. Georgia- Georgian nymph
12. San Marino- it was ok
13. Austria- I saw the song title and thought about We Don't Talk About Bruno for some reason. But the song suprised me in a really positive way. I men Poe is a win every time XD
14. Albania- Albanian family witch clan I swear. It was fine tho
15. Lithuania- pagan vibed but still a ballad
16. Australia- I forgot about them. But oh such a wonderful surprise was to hear their song! Hard rock and eurobeat blend. Chef's kiss

Rating every Eurovision final performance until I get bored (tw: opinions):
1) Austria : 9/10 not the greatest thing since sliced bread but a solid vibe, my kinda weird and pleasant musically, like the "ghostly" harmonies, scrarch my brain pleasantly, and as English lit student I appreciate poe.
2) Portugal: 5/10 not bad but legit don't remember anything and it just finished; piano riff sounded like I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor
3) Switzerland: 4,5/10 feels very general-pop; good lyrics but the arrangement/melody makes me kinda too bored to really listen; formal line sounded like "Sk8ter boy" by Avril Lavigne
4) Poland (motherland, I'm so not proud, WHY): 4/10 song is generic summer radio pop, nothing original but honestly not the worst I've heard, tho I'm pretty sure I have heard a Latino/Spanish pop song at least very similar; also unfortunately heard fragments of this before and this performance is not too bad for her, at least she worked on it; why the dance solo (pun intended hehe) exists tho
5) Serbia: 6/10 man, the boi is pretty, but can he sing? Apparently not really 😬 visually interesting performance, auditorily not so much 😭 (dunno if it's a word). Points for originality tho, but will not stream.
6) France: 8/10 Strong vocals. Song is definitely not what I initially expected, which makes it more interesting. Really vibing. Honestly didn't find anything I didn't like aside from the length of her nails but their hers not my business. Maybe not "Eurovision crazy" enough to win but still love it
7) Cyprus: 3,5/10 pleasant voice but nothing special yet; song feels ESC-generic, don't like the falsetto high notes. Lyrics feel like AI generated broken heart song
8) Spain: 8/10 kinda arabic vibes? Great vibes, song very original, not my personal fave, but still amazing quality-wise imo.
9) Sweden 7/10 Loreen my girl this isn't Euphoria -level :( not bad, but nothing special, tho the singing is mostly amazing. Her nails are a safety hazard, sorry to the French lady.
10) Albania: 5,5/10 very Eastern vibe. Original enough, the main lady sings great, but the song doesn't really resonate with me so far. Don't like the dude.
11) Italy: 9.5/10 sounds like a generic pop but in Italian, and I like his bedazzled top. Ok, nvm, song is not groundbreaking but his voice makes up for it. Not sure if win material but "add to playlist material" for sure. Im pretty sure I've just heard "calzone" in there, prolly incorrect but don't care, extra point
12) Estonia: 9/10 not the most innovative but has 'something', like it so far. Would fit a fantasy soundtrack, maybe that's what has me hooked. The auto-playing piano cracks me up tho, same with the wrist-belts, but those take nothing from the performance.
13) Finland: 6/10 heard it all over Tiktok through last week and am fed up with it😬 is a vibe, but after too many times imo plain annoying. Points for the outfit, personally hate it but is already iconic. Unfortunately song is even more irritating live :/ but also frustratingly catchy, gonna be stuck in my head
14) Czechia: 7/10 was loving the slavicness, wish it didn't switch to English, ruins the vibe, also Female Power points. The performance doesn't give much to watch, but nice to listen to.
15) Australia: 8/10 yeah, never saw a dude in a car on stage before. I like the song very much, but not the most original in the genre. But, might be on of the best ones tonight.
16) Belgium 4/10 generic EDM pop, gives the same vibe as Be My Lover by La Bouche but worse and with Positive Message™️
17) Armenia: 6,5/10 pretty but? Im gonna forget about it in 5 mins or make it my personality for the next 10 days, but option 1 is more probable.
18) Moldova: 9/10 don't know what's going on but in a good way. I think this song may be doing to me what Chachacha was supposed to, tho it's not the greatest thing. (Got a bit bored in the edm interlude)
19) Ukraine: 3/10 feels like they knew what they wanted to say but unfortunately needed to make it into a song. Don't like it at all tbh, but organs in the background are cool.
20) Norway: 10/10 my fave!!!!! Haven't heard the beginning yet! Sounds like she has stage fright:( love tho pls win? Love how she looks like she's enjoying herself
21) Germany: 6/10 why is their leader cosplaying Vecna from ST???? Song stands out but, feels generic at the same time?
22) Lithuania: 6,5/10 life story but make it Disney soundtrack. Nothing we haven't heard on ESC before, but not bad. Pretty visual display .
23) Israel: 3/10 ummm no. Shame it isn't in a language I don't know, would like it much better. Like the voice, and the instrumentals at the beginning, but that's it. No, I didn't wanna see you dance. Choreo is nice tho.
24) Slovenia: 9,5/10 sounds like something I usually would like (i think(on second thought no, not really)) but I do. Guy has a good voice, love their energy, somehow they look friendly.
25) Croatia: 10/10 gay sailors who's mother bought a tractor? Eurovision at it's finest 😂 this one stands out like nothing else
26) UK: 2/10 don't be boring pls!!! Ok, you are ;( the intro was promising, then she started to sing... Nothing criminally bad, would bear it on the radio, but boring af
Disclaimer: I now nothing or next to nothing about the artists, their backgrounds etc. Also my ratings don't reflect any predictions as to who may win.

My thoughts on the Eurovision songs this year
1. 🇦🇱 Albania - Duje - Albina & Familja Kelmendi
VERY dramatic, but I could shake my ass to the part in which she isn’t singing
2. 🇦🇲 Armenia - Future Lover - Brunette
„I just wanna make art, read books, be loved and called a good girl“ okay ma'am that’s everyone ur not special
3. 🇦🇺 Australia - Promise - Voyager
Do we know why they are headbanging this much? It couldn’t be bc of this song right?
4. 🇦🇹 Austria - Who the hell is Edgar? - Teya & Salena
Not often is a song made spicier by adding some church singing
5. 🇦🇿 Azerbaijan - Tell me more - TuralTuranX
I have just watched the video for the third time and I start to suspect that there is more than one guy singing, I could be wrong tho
6. 🇧🇪 Belgium - Because of you - Gustaph
He looks like a gay musketeer + weirdly enough this song doesn’t make me want to dance, it makes me want to walk???
7. 🇭🇷 Croatia - Mama ŠČ - Let 3
Thankfully for them I love chaos and not knowing what is going on, BUT I did get scared for a second when they undressed
8. 🇨🇾 Cyprus - Break a broken heart - Andrew Lambrou
I am mesmerized but that won’t get me to like the song :/
9. 🇨🇿 Czechia - My sister‘s crown - Vesna
Idk guys, is this a good song or does it just have a good message? It doesn’t bop for me, I’m so sorry I tried
10. 🇩🇰 Denmark - Breaking my heart - Reiley
Okay, do we also have a version in which we can hear his voice in the chorus better? Thanks, the distorted one playing over his singing is a no no. I dig the outfit tho 10/10 very cute

This. woman. has. the. most. snatched. waist. I. have. ever. seen. Other than that, once again France does what it does best, which is being french
14. 🇬🇪 Georgia - Echo - Iru
Did she get turned into a white worm halfway through? + They surely get the award of „lyrics that make the least sense“ this year. „THIS FEELING IS LORD“
15. 🇩🇪 Germany - Blood & Glitter - Lord of the lost
So happy for Germany leaving its shell for once but maybe reconsider the red latex suit. Otherwise they are really cute and make me smile
16. 🇬🇷 Greece - What they say - Victor Vernicos
How did Greece get Tom Shelby’s son dressed like a school boy from the 1940ies to sing about his hurt feelings?
17. 🇮🇸 Iceland - Power - Diljá
So sad Iceland couldn’t keep up the streak of rly good entries. Unfortunately this song holds no PPPPower over me
18. 🇮🇪 Ireland - We are one - Wild Youth

19. 🇮🇱 Israel - Unicorn - Noa Kirel
A song called Unicorn has no business being this serious
20. 🇮🇹 Italy - Due vite - Marco Mengoni

This song is all the stages of grief I go through once my favourite does not win eurovision
26. 🇳🇴 Norway - Queen of Kings - Alessandra
Aye aye captain we stan! BUT I would have looooved if the show (costumes, dance,…) were a cringey eurovisiony pirate thing
27. 🇵🇱 Poland - Solo - Blanka
Why is it giving parody of rich spoiled brat that thinks she can sing bc daddy said so?
28. 🇵🇹 Portugal - Ai Coração - Mimicat
I like it, it’s not a ballad and fun also she looks exactly how I would imagine a Mimicat
29. 🇷🇴 Romania - D.G.T. (Off and On) - Theodor Andrei
I didn’t expect to be going to an underage bondage strip club tonight.
30. 🇸🇲 San Marino - Like an animal - Piqued Jacks
He is giving me mixed signals. Am I sexy Aphrodite or do I stink and am poisonous? Why is he chasing me? Is that good or bad? I’m worried
31. 🇷🇸 Serbia - Samo mi she spava - Luke Black
He is very much Melovin coded but I do connect with the message an awful lot
32. 🇸🇮 Slovenia - Carpe Diem - Joker Out

35. 🇨🇭 Switzerland - Watergun - Remo Forrer
Don’t worry Remo, Switzerland is one of the safest countries on earth
36. 🇺🇦 Ukraine - Heart of Steel - Tvorchi
I think I have never been more surprised by a country sending a generic pop song. Or maybe it was to be expected the most rn. It’s not bad by any means but also def not a winner and everyone knows that
37. 🇬🇧 United Kingdom - I wrote a song - Mae Muller

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
May 16, 2023
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
MAY 17, 2023
Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky has been on a tour of visits with European leaders. On May 13 he met with Pope Francis, who offered help finding the Ukrainian children kidnapped by the Russians and returning them to Ukraine, and with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The next day he met with German chancellor Olaf Scholz before flying to France to meet with President Emmanuel Macron. On Monday, Zelensky made a surprise visit to the United Kingdom, where he met with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The European Parliament and the Foundation of the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen awarded the Ukrainian people and Zelensky the Charlemagne Prize “for their fight for freedom and democracy against the unjustified Russian war of aggression. This award underscores the fact that Ukraine is part of Europe and that its people and its government—headed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy—support and defend European values, and therefore deserve encouragement to enter swiftly into accession negotiations with the European Union.” Leaks linked to Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira have revealed a dynamic landscape. On the basis of those leaks, on May 13 the Washington Post reported that Zelensky’s calm public demeanor is different from his private positions, which have called for a much more aggressive stance toward Russia. On May 14 the Washington Post reported on a leaked document revealing that Yevgeniy Prigozhin had offered in January to tell Ukraine where Russian forces were positioned if it would pull back from the front in Bakhmut, where Prigozhin’s Wagner Group mercenaries were getting pounded. On Sunday, as Zelensky was receiving promises of more European support, Ukraine said it had captured more than ten key Russian positions near Bakhmut. Last week, Germany announced its largest aid package to Ukraine since the war began—a package of nearly $3 billion—and U.S. Abrams tanks arrived in Germany ahead of schedule for training Ukrainian troops. Rumors are swirling about the health of Belarus president Alexander Lukashenko, one of Putin’s key allies, who has not been seen recently and has skipped important public events. In July, leaders of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will gather in Vilnius, Lithuania, to discuss strengthening the organization’s defenses against Russia, and the relationship of NATO to Ukraine. Meanwhile, the U.S. and the European Council have been hosting peace talks between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan after Russian peacekeepers have become ineffective. And U.S. Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Richard Verma is currently on a trip to Poland, Moldova, and Romania to “emphasize the United States’ commitment to our European Allies and partners, Transatlantic security, and our shared democratic values” even as Russia seeks to destabilize Moldova. Elections in Turkey have produced a runoff between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his main challenger, Kemal Kilicdaroglu. Kilicdaroglu has promised to move Turkey closer to Europe than would Erdogan, who has swung toward Russia and authoritarianism. Turkey is a member of NATO, and Erodgan has ruled it for two decades, eroding its democracy. Opponents of Erdogan have coalesced behind Kilicdaroglu, who is popular enough that he managed to get within striking distance of Erdogan despite the leader’s attempt to rig the vote. Expert on Turkish foreign policy and fellow at the Brookings Institution Asli Aydintasbas told Jared Malsin and Elvan Kivilcim of the Wall Street Journal: “A Turkey that tilts a little more toward Europe or NATO, even if it’s not a full pivot, that would be a huge change for the global balance of power, particularly with Russia’s war on Ukraine.”
U.S. senior officials are in Detroit this week for one of a series of meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, a group of 21 countries with nearly 40 percent of the global population— almost 3 billion people— and nearly 50 percent of global trade. APEC members account for more than 60 percent of U.S. goods exports and seven of our top ten overall trading partners. Hosting APEC this year was supposed to show “U.S. economic leadership and multilateralism in the Indo-Pacific and highlight the direct impact of international economic engagement on prosperity here in the United States,” an illustration of the Biden administration’s outreach in the Indo-Pacific. But just as Biden’s attempts to counter Russia and China and shore up democracy globally are bearing fruit, he has to cut short his visit to Australia and Papua New Guinea, where he was scheduled to travel after this weekend’s meeting of the Group of Seven (G7) in Hiroshima, Japan. The G7 is a forum of the leaders of France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Canada, along with the European Union, to discuss economic and governmental policies. The debt ceiling crisis is forcing Biden to come home early rather than continue to strengthen ties in the region. Today, more than 140 leaders of the biggest U.S. companies published an open letter to the president and congressional leaders “to emphasize the potentially disastrous consequences of a failure by the federal government to meet its obligations.” They noted that when the government approached a default in 2011 under similar circumstances, the U.S. lost its AAA bond rating (which it has never regained), the stock market lost 17% of its value for more than a year, and “Moody’s reported that the heightened uncertainty from this crisis resulted in 1.2 million fewer jobs, a 0.7 percentage point higher unemployment rate, and a $180 billion smaller economy than it otherwise would have—dire impacts that occurred without an actual default.” House Republicans, led by Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), are refusing to raise the debt ceiling, which is a limit to how much money the Treasury can raise to pay existing obligations, in order to extract budget cuts they cannot get through the normal process of legislation. While Republicans claim to be concerned about spending, it is notable that they have flat-out refused to help reduce the deficit by closing tax loopholes that would raise $40 billion. They also refuse to consider any measure that would raise taxes, focusing solely on spending cuts. Meanwhile, Americans for Prosperity, a group funded by billionaire Charles Koch, has rolled out an ad campaign putting pressure on Biden and Democratic senators in the battleground states of Arizona, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Wisconsin to give in to Republican demands rather than insist on the same clean debt ceiling Congress passed three times under Trump.

My top 37 after having seen all performances but before the final. Comparison is to my top before the semis.
My ranking has mostly been based on the studio versions, it's really only during the last week I've started to let live performances have any impact. So a lot of the changes you see in this one has to do with how well the performances from the semis captivated me.
Top 3 are in a league of their own for me, top 21 are all amazing, top 27 I really, really like and the only ones I don't particularly care for are the bottom 3.

1. Denmark. Literal child? Voice doesn't have enough power to hit those notes. Like that pink to green change on stage
I SEE THE DADI FREYR IN THE BG OMG ICELAND BABY (btw did they bleach their flag?)
2. Armenia. Laying on the floor. Classic. Somewhat continued pink theme at start. The thing I love, no sarcasm, is that sometimes you can't tell if they actually sing in English. Oh it wasn't a floor, it was a wall. Revolutionary.
Ew, showing Beatles statues. Have to shove your famous boys against a poet and clowns? This is why no one likes you UK
3. Romania. Oh let's go, native language, cool voice, pink suit, playing with genres. This is why im here. Staging is a letdown, you could literally just follow with the camera on foot.
4. Estonia. Oh piano plays itself, no fire yet. Now she plays it. I hope it ends with piano retaliation and attack. Average ballad and in English, boring. Go off piano, love that it has a mic too.
5. Belgium. Pink is back, yas. Love asymmetrical hat. Okay back up vocals have more power that main man, like damn, turn them up! Kinda like that low beat. Fun.funfun
Graham yooo, the only uk host im excited to see in final. So weird to see him and hear him at the same time lmao.
6. Cyprus. wooo. Didn't get memo for the pink theme. woooOOOooo. English, but accent is thick so I'll take it. wooooOoOoO. Gets some shoes boy, barefoot look didn't add shit. I wonder how warm is the floor tho, lights and all the pyre prob heats it up good. Woooo
7. Iceland. Everyone shut up its iceland. Im biased. Laying on the floor, brilliant move. Oh red lining in the coat, great. Some pink light's so were in the clear there too. Asserting more dominance over the floor and laying on in some more. She jacked, wow. Good voice. Song? I felt nothing.
8. Greece. Laying on the floor. Waiting for the pink to cross it off my list. Oh no your voice isn't there to jump or even move and sing, sorry. Also no pink. ФEELINGS. Why are you doing that with that alphabet shuffle. Causing me pain, that's what. Do that with sung word and we'll talk.
9. Poland. Pink hell yah. This is makes me have flashbacks to the 00s radio. Everything, voice dance, costumes, underwhelming. Oh so her dress was shitty because it was hiding another dress and not 00s reference? Makes sense. Fuego attempt, sorry you're not HER
10. Slovenia. Not English + nasty bass, okay boys! Some pink clothing. Raided their parents closet from 80s. Can't pinpoint the high singer sadly.
11. Georgia. I was excited that she was yelling at me and then she stopped... Obsessed with the instrumentals. Pink appears on the screens briefly, if you care. Amazing voice, blew the dress away.
WELSH FLAG YES BITCH
What is that actor forgor here, he's not here to talk about anything substantial I bet. Alluding to Ukraine, not even head on mention, are you kidding me?
12. San Marino. Rocky. What's with the sound mixing this year, they let this one down. Oh eyes on the walls, ok. Laying on the floor gives you some kind of points, at least I can have list. No pink, but there was like only red.
13. Austria. Okay fun start, go queens! Very interesting vocal turns and melodies. Staging is immaculate! Costumes are great. UGH. Edgar lmao. A lot of red, we moving the spectrum it seems.
14. Albania. I swear Albania sent this before. Sorry, deja vu is insane for me here. Flashing aggressive red lights solidified spectrum change. Native language is an automatic W. Wait, I thought the limit was 5 people on stage, they had 6.
15. Lithuania. Pink and red, bold choice, bringing it all together. Okay more of a purple and orange, shut up. Back up is overpowering her when they sing chorus, at least it mixed better.
16. Australia. Oh I liked thier postcard bridge. Doing interesting thing with camera, lights. Some pink and red. Oh was that a brief breakdown, alrighty. Crisp guitars and synth. Ending with headbang, very energetic!
Pretty fun semifinals overall

ranking esc2023 songs... part two
ahead of the second semi final tonight, here’s my personal qualifiers and non-qualifiers for another sixteen songs!
1. austria || it’s already iconic and for good reason. this year’s show belongs to edgar allan poe!!
2. san marino || i feel like it’s not my usual kind of thing, at least not when it comes to eurovision, but i like it. good music, nice vocals, and it’s hard not to sing along.
3. iceland || look it’s nothing new or inventive, but for what it is, it delivers and it delivers well, and her voice has a lot of power behind it.
4. denmark || didn’t think i’d be seeing the random ab6ix collab guy on eurovision, but here we are... it’s cute and catchy, and he’s got a likeable voice.
5. greece || i’m saying it again, it’s nothing new, but it’s from a teenager so i’ll allow it. he’s got a lot of talent.
6. lithuania || she’s a solid singer and i like the progression of the song.
7. cyprus || i like his voice and the song builds along well, so i’d be surprised if it didn’t do well in the semi at least.
8. slovenia || i like the music on this one and it’s one of those songs that sticks in my head but it’s welcome to.
9. estonia || strong vocals, and the music is likeable enough, but. kind of boring.
10. armenia || tbh this one bores me a bit too, but she’s got a strong voice and the music itself is solid.
11. romania || he’s got a good voice but this song just isn’t working for me.
12. albania || i do enjoy the music on this and the cultural touches, but it’s not really my kind of thing.
13. poland || it’s catchy but that’s kind of the only compliment i can give it.
14. georgia || look i’m trying to put aside the awkward phrasing of some of these lyrics, but even with that aside, it’s pretty generic for eurovision.
15. belgium || for an upbeat eurovision song about empowerment and self-belief... it’s pretty damn bland.
16. australia || i feel like it has potential at the beginning but then the chorus bores me every time.
#eurovision#esc 2023#this is definitely a weaker semi final for me... tbh i only really care about austria reaching the final#but my top four for this ranking are all ones i'd like to see there#as for the rest...#well it'll come down to how well they can actually perform live then we'll see if my ranking sticks or if i change my mind
