One thing I find particularly difficult at the moment is planning for the future. I wish very much to return to the water, but I find myself in a way squeezed from multiple directions of things which must happen in order for me to return to the water as I want, to swim forever.
I am schizophrenic, and with that comes a number of problems. First off I am on somewhat more a limited time in that my lifespan is likely to be between 55-60 years, how long I am to be functional even less. My body is degrading, I cannot walk well and I struggle often to think. I fear often that eventually I will be sent away and locked in a hospital, I wish very much the humans would put me in a tank instead of a hospital, though to be honest such a request would only convince the humans more I belonged locked away in hospital.
But also I am trans and I would like still to have bottom surgery. However this is complicated by my schizophrenia. Wait lists for surgery are really quite long, and I need to both have lost enough weight and been stable on my medicine long enough to get through that without problem. And it seems honestly insurmountable.
I am also an immigrant to my country and it takes a certain amount of time to get citizenship, something which the time has been extended significantly. If indeed I am somehow able to return to the water in captivity, would the humans actually treat us like the cetaceans we are, or would they still demand things like visas and such sorted for us to live in a tank? I really do not know.
It will also take a certain amount of time for me to effectively design a suit that would allow me to swim forever. I imagine 5-10 years going through various stages of suit design and potentially going further and longer each time (assuming I do not drown or get eaten or prop struck or any number of things).
In this manner I feel squeezed from multiple angles between a shrinking window. It will take time to build the suit and complete various things like bottom surgery. From one side this gives me more time to sort things out as well as build up resources not only to make such a whale suit, and potentially multiple if others wished to join me, but also if we need to make or do certain things because I struggle to imagine any normal zoo or aquarium would take us (though given the number of times people fake animals honestly maybe we would get lucky). But that is also more time for things to go wrong particularly with employment. I have the money and resources I could not work for a year or two, however in order to keep my visa I require a certain income per month in paid employment or time in education. I also have very unique experiences and knowledge that if I had the time I could almost certainly make a business selling either pumps or therian prosthetics/costume pieces/specialized monofins. But then from the other side the longer I am on land the more damage is done to my body, the further it will deteriorate, and possibly someday I may no longer able to return to the water, and the greater likelihood at some point there is an event where I am sent away to hospital and possibly lose the resources I have which might allow me to escape.
It becomes a tough choice of what exactly to do. I had applied for a PhD position, but I do not think that is what I want. It would require a huge amount of work and potentially bring a delay to returning to the water. I need to find work first off, just anything that will let me stay, either in my home or at least in the EU where my companion can join me. I think ideal would be to find a position that would allow me to work 3-4 days a week and the remaining time use to develop an income source less dependant on companies which are only too happy to throw you away when you are no longer useful. I may have been made to serve the humans but they do seem to only care that I meet certain requirements.
In a way it is as though I have to design for three possible lives. The life I want so dearly to be back in the water forever, a life where I must still play a human but sometimes go out into the water and steadily go further and longer, and one in which I remain trapped in this human hell and have to make the best of it I can. In either of the two second cases I suppose I can at most points simply don the whalesuit, and swim out to sea and eventually the sea would take me. If it is the right time of year of place I may even find others. Though this is balanced against the humans locking me away in a hospital. The longer I can be on land, the more time I have to prep for my return, but also the more I degrade, and the less time I could have in the water, and the worse I would move when I do return.
If I could return to the water in 10 years which I think is a reasonable time, even a little long, then I could have 15 to 20 years in the best case. If I could have twenty years in a tank especially with Sonar and other cetaceans be they whales or dolphins that would be an unbelievable dream. Most of my memories would have gone ten cycles by that point and I would remember nearly nothing or even nothing of when I was human, the memories and nightmare faded completely into the past. It is unlikely that I could have so long a time, the effect of being in such a suit for so long would have a number of detrimental effects and the effect of swimming as a cetacean I do not know how it would affect the spine. Human spines do bend in that way but it would be basically a constant core workout and not a normal way most humans move their spine as in contrast to walking. There are also so many ways things could go wrong like if my blowholes didn't seal properly, or did not unseal or just any number of other problems with water going in a place it should not or even things like infections both respiratory and elsewhere, many captive cetaceans have died to that.
In any case, it presents a difficult set of parameters. There are things that must be done before I can return to the water, and more time to prep things will be good to ensure I can return to the water for as long a I can to hopefully have the long whale life I desire, but the longer I am out of the water, not only do I suffer longer as human, I reduce my potential maximum time back in the water, and risk not being able to return to the water at all. I only want to return to the water, and swim again forever, and I hope for a long forever.

Namibian Michelle Nehoya has spent nearly $500 (£390) on the application process for a visa to visit Canada - but almost two years later it has yet to materialise. The 38-year-old, who lives in Namibia's capital, Windhoek, is desperate to get to Quebec to see her aunt and cousins whom she has not seen for almost a decade. The visa application has involved filling in multiple forms - and among other requirements, she has also had to provide six months of bank statements, an invitation letter plus a detailed travel history. There is no way to apply in Namibia, so this has also meant travelling to South Africa to submit her biometric data, which involves giving her fingerprints and having a photo taken. Her experience is not uncommon for Africans travelling to Western countries. In 2022, seven of the top 10 countries with the highest visa rejection rates in the bloc of European countries known as the Schengen area were African, according to consultancy firm Henley and Partners. […] From next April, Canadian nationals, along with those from Germany, the US, the UK and 29 other countries, will require a visa for entry. These include all “non-reciprocating countries” - meaning the new visa rules will affect citizens from all countries that require Namibian passport holders to have visas. “Namibia has extended gestures of goodwill and favourable treatment to nationals of various countries. However, despite these efforts, certain nations have not reciprocated,” Namibia’s immigration ministry said in May. “In light of this disparity, the government has deemed it necessary to implement a visa requirement to ensure parity and fairness in diplomatic interactions.” But these visitors will be able to buy their 90-day visa, costing $90, on arrival in Namibia - unlike the onerous requirements placed on African passport holders who need to get their visas beforehand.
They should at least make the visa as expensive as it is for Namibians to get a visa so if it costs $500 for a Canadian visa then it should cost Canadians the same plus the addition of the cost of travel to South Africa to get the visa. If the UK charges £1000 for a visa then UK nationals should pay that amount for a Namibian visa. The same goes for all the other countries whose nationals have to jump through hoops to get a western visa.

“It has been lengthy and frustrating. I haven’t been given any reason why it’s taken so long," Ms Nehoya tells the BBC.
However, if her family in Quebec decide to travel to Namibia on Canadian passports, they will not face anything like the challenges and costs she encountered. Canadian citizens can currently enter Namibia without a visa.
But this will change in eight months’ time.
From next April, Canadian nationals, along with those from Germany, the US, the UK and 29 other countries, will require a visa for entry.
“In light of this disparity, the government has deemed it necessary to implement a visa requirement to ensure parity and fairness in diplomatic interactions.”
But these visitors will be able to buy their 90-day visa, costing $90, on arrival in Namibia - unlike the onerous requirements placed on African passport holders who need to get their visas beforehand.
The British High Commissioner to Namibia, Charles Moore, said he respected the right of Namibia to impose new regulations.
“[The UK] unfortunately imposed a visa regime on Namibia last year due to the number of asylum seekers we were receiving. That was impacting on our relationship with Namibia,” he said.
A statement from the UK government further explained there had been a sustained and significant increase in the number of asylum applications from Namibians at the UK border since 2016.
“This constitutes an abuse of the provision to visit the UK for a limited period as non-visa nationals,” it said.
For Ms Nehoya, Namibia’s visa announcement is long overdue: “I think it is fair. It feels like Namibia is standing up for itself.”
The reactions on social media to the news echo her sentiments.
“Finally. I hope they also require them to submit a bible of documents, take medical tests, [and] Namibian language tests,” wrote one commenter.
Another said: “If I need to bring bank statements… and all sort of documents and still buy visa just to gain entry to a country, that country should also do the same to gain entry to my country.”
And visas for the Schengen area, the US and Canada do not come cheap for African passport holders.
The European Union made more than €53m ($58m; £45m) on rejected visa applications from African countries in 2023, according to a recent report by the Lago Collective, a think-tank that focuses on migration.
Visas can be rejected for multiple reasons. The report says most rejections are based on “reasonable doubt about the visa applicant’s intention to return home”.
In June 2024, the price of Schengen short-term visas went up from €80 to €90 for adults, and in October 2023, the UK visa fee rose from £100 to £115.
The report also showed that nearly a third of Africans applying for a visa to the Schengen area were rejected, higher than the global average.
Even when visas are approved, African travellers say their experiences at border security make them feel uncomfortable and unwanted.
Winnie Byanyima, the head of UNAids and who is herself Ugandan, drew attention to this when she tweeted in 2022: “I’m at Geneva airport, I’m almost refused to board, all documents scrutinised over and over again, calls made… I board last.”
Despite Namibia’s visa initiative receiving praise on social media, the tourism industry is less enthusiastic.
The Hospitality Association of Namibia said it was “very concerned” about the message it “sends to the global travel trade”.
In 2022, the tourism sector accounted for 7% of GDP, making it the third largest contributor to the economy - with most tourists coming countries such as Germany and the US.
Though Soni Nrupesh, a tourism expert based in Windhoek, believes the visa move will not deter visitors: “It will not change much; you can still get on a plane without a visa.
“It’s just when you get to the airport you will fill a form pay the fees and enter.”
Prospective travellers like Ms Nehoya hope this kind reciprocity will be the future for everyone.
“People come to Namibia, and they love it. But we also want to see what is happening on the other side,” she says.
“It would be nice to go to Canada, the US or the UK and just get a visa on arrival. But right now, we must plan everything so far in advance.”

ack it sounds like you had a crazy day 🥴
Honestly? Yesterday wasn't so bad in the scheme of the last... month? two months? Honestly bar 'I don't have the help I need' problem it was fine up until a time which was technically today when housemate handed me my post. It just keeps going.
I'm just really hoping I do actually go for my night away at the end of the month, because I extremely need the break.
Below follows a rant.
In the post was a letter from the hospital which /sounded/ like a discharge letter. I have not had the test the doctor wanted done yet, only a different test I'd previously had done but was told I had to redo to be allowed the new one as it'd been a year. The pre-test test picked up a /different/ thing to what I was seeing him about and he seems to have assumed that was the entire problem. I know its different - I have two unique symptom sets one of which is multiple times a day which is annoying but livable (the one which happened while I had the monitor) and one of which barely happens but had a friend who saw me 2 hours after offering to take me to the hospital. -_- First point is ring the GP (I think you call them family doctors) as the specialist said he wanted the GP to give me meds anyway but the ones the specialist listed interact with my other meds so I need to talk about it, and at that appointment ask if the GP knows what's going on, and hopefully prompt /them/ to bug the specialist about what's going on. Because what I was told at the appointment and what is in the letter are two completely different and contradictory things and I just hope /someone/ knows what is going on.
This of course does not account for the fact I've been struggling for the last week because of carer shenanigans. Its 10 days without because COVID periods. I'm on day... 7? Now
Two weeks ago tomorrow the piping fell out the sink and ended up with half an inch of hot water on the floor.
There's a mystery new wet spot in the hallway floor in the middle with no other indication of damage. Landlady keeps saying apply the ddehumidifier. We keep doing that. It's just getting worse. It is almost certainly a burst pipe or something in the foundations. She is ignoring us and just telling us to dehumidifier. This has been happening for over a year with another patch around a corner and against a wall.
Honestly can't remember what else. But I know before the pipe something else was wrong, the pipe just outshone it, and there are other things too.
There's about 8 other things which can best be described as 'the health service is chronically underfunded and understaffed thanks to the government both refusing to give it the money it needs and also being xenophobic and putting the minimum income for immigrants to get a visa - or even for a local citizen to have their spouse enter the country - above the pay or every nurse and almost all doctors and this means more people are more rushed', especially with covid wrecking people's health and suddenly loads more cardiac and neurology patients from the long term damage'. A problem only exasperated by COVID.
Add in that they changed the system so I can't book my injections in advance and so I miss them because the first symptom I get when I start running low is an inability to remember things or comprehend dates and I'm having fun! The potential complications from not getting it on time, with a buffer of only about a week as I'm a particularly bad case, only include heart attacks and brain damage but I'm already disabled and can't work so its fine, right? (sarcasm. so so much sarcasm here) (my carers are /trying/ to keep on top of it, but it isn't really working)

In this blog, we’ll dive deep into what the Dubai Golden Visas are, the eligibility criteria, and the benefits of holding this prestigious visa.
What is the Dubai Golden Visa Program?
Launched in 2019, the Dubai Golden Visa is a long-term residency visa granted to foreign nationals. Unlike standard visas that require frequent renewals, the Golden Visa provides residency for 5 or 10 years, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and investments. Its primary goal is to retain skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, scientists, and investors in the UAE, contributing to the country’s growing economy.
The Golden Visa Dubai Program is not limited to high-net-worth individuals or elite professionals. With diverse categories for eligibility, the UAE government aims to attract a wide range of talent.
Who is Eligible for Dubai Golden Visas?
The Dubai Golden Visa Program is open to a variety of individuals, including:
Investors: Individuals investing AED 2 million or more in real estate or businesses in Dubai qualify for the Golden Visa. For those opting for a 10-year visa, a more significant investment is required.
Entrepreneurs: Entrepreneurs running successful ventures in Dubai can apply. Typically, they need to own or be part of a startup that is recognized as part of Dubai’s forward-looking economic sectors.
Highly-Skilled Professionals: Professionals such as doctors, engineers, and IT specialists who bring valuable skills to Dubai’s workforce can qualify for this visa. They must meet certain salary and qualification requirements.
Scientists and Researchers: Those who have made notable contributions in the fields of science, research, or innovation may also be eligible for the Golden Visa Dubai Program. They should be endorsed by relevant UAE-based organizations.
Outstanding Students and Graduates: High-performing students and graduates from UAE universities or the top 100 international institutions with outstanding academic records are encouraged to apply.
Artists and Creatives: People involved in the arts, culture, and creative industries who have a track record of significant achievements or recognition are also welcomed under the Dubai Golden Visas initiative.
Benefits of the Dubai Golden Visa Program
Holding a Dubai Golden Visa comes with a range of benefits that make it an appealing option for those looking to relocate to Dubai long-term:
Extended Residency: Unlike typical visas, the Dubai Golden Visa offers either 5 or 10 years of residency, depending on the applicant’s category and investment. It provides a sense of stability and security for families and professionals.
Family Benefits: The visa holder can sponsor their family members, including spouses and children. Additionally, family members can remain in Dubai even if the primary visa holder passes away during the visa term.
Business Freedom: Golden Visa holders can work, establish businesses, and enjoy ownership rights without requiring a local sponsor. This is a significant shift from traditional work visa requirements.
Property Ownership: Golden Visa holders can own property in Dubai, contributing to long-term investments and stability. This feature has attracted a large number of real estate investors to the city.
Education Opportunities: Families with children will benefit from the visa's support in educational continuity, with easy access to Dubai’s renowned international schools and universities.
Ease of Travel: The Golden Visa allows multiple entries and exits from the UAE without the need for frequent visa renewals. Additionally, it opens doors to various visa-free travel opportunities within the Gulf region.
Why Choose the Dubai Golden Visa?
The Dubai Golden Visa Program has transformed the city into a global destination for professionals, investors, and creatives. Dubai is known for its strategic location, modern infrastructure, world-class amenities, and safety, making it a desirable place for individuals and families.
Furthermore, with the UAE government continuously adapting policies to attract the best talent, the Dubai Golden Visa is likely to offer more opportunities in the future.
Conclusion
The Golden Visa Dubai Program offers unparalleled advantages for those seeking to establish a long-term presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing cities. Whether you are an investor, entrepreneur, or skilled professional, the Dubai Golden Visa provides a gateway to a prosperous future in the UAE. With its numerous benefits and eligibility categories, it is no surprise that the Dubai Golden Visas continue to gain popularity among those wanting to make Dubai their new home.
