Blueberries and Blueberries and More Blueberries

Summary: A day at the market is a good place for a date and to help the locals at the same time. Shawn just needs to convince Lassiter how great it is. 

Notes: Loving this challenge so far! Hope I did alright on today’s prompt. 

Also Shawn pov this time (3rd person limited, of course. 1st pov isn’t really my thing) instead of Lassie’s!

Flufftober day 4: Market Day

“Come on, Carlytown! You have to at least try it!” 

“Shawn, I don’t have to do anything.” 

“Look, it’s not gonna hurt you! It’s just a blueberry.” 

It was a sunny day on the coast of Santa Barbara, not a single cloud in the sky. Which wasn’t especially noteworthy, considering it was always sunny in Santa Barbara. But, all the same, it was still nice to feel the warm rays of an unrestrained sun. 

Not that two people in particular would be able to actually feel it on their skin, since they were both wearing some kind of long-sleeved overwear. It was a miracle neither of them were sweating like pigs. 

One of them, Carlton Lassiter, had on a two piece suit. The jacket was dark in color, with a white button up buttoned all the way to the very top. Intermittently he’d tug on a startlingly red tie, fiddling with the knot to make sure it was still tight.

The other, Shawn Spencer, was wearing an unbuttoned green flannel over an Apple Jacks t-shirt paired with jeans that looked like he’d gotten them from somebody’s garage. 

Currently, Shawn was trying to coax his boyfriend, Lassiter, into trying one of the stalls home-grown blueberries — with permission from the vendor, of course. 

“Yes, one that was grown from an unreliable source! Who knows what kind of practices they used to grow those blueberries?” 

Shawn scrunched his eyebrows. “Unreliable- it’s from a farm, Carly! That’s where all blueberries come from!” 

“No, the ones at the store come from dependable and approved sources. They’ve been FDA approved. Those-” he pointed dramatically at the tiny carton Shawn was holding “- aren’t.”

Shawn should’ve known this would happen. This was the same man that literally claimed — quite proudly, too — that he only ate vegetables out of a can. Obviously that statement would extend to fruits as well. 

Shawn looked at the lady behind the stand helplessly to try and get her to back him up, and saw she was doing her best to hold back laughter. It looked like she wasn’t really in a good position to talk at the moment, much less support Shawn and her fruit. He was on his own. 

“Just- hey, look. Trust me, alright? You know I’d never make you eat something you wouldn’t like.” 

Lassiter gave him a look of disbelief. “Just a few days ago you begged me to try Queso… Cinco Fries, or whatever they’re called.” 

“First of all: It’s Fries Quatro Queso Dos Fritos, and as I recall you loved it-”

“Up until I had to take three tums for the heartburn it gave me.” 

“Irrelevant. Second of all: this is a fruit, not deep fried goodness. I’m more than sure that these have been at least washed.” Shawn faltered at that statement, and turned to the lady. “These are washed, right?” 

She simply nodded her head, not saying a word. A big grin was still hiding behind her hand. But as he turned back to Lassiter he barely heard her mumble something along the lines of ‘Title of your sex tape’. He had to really try hard not to react and pretend he didn’t hear her. 

Shawn watched Lassiter’s facial expressions change, obviously thinking over the choices. After about a minute of looking conflicted, he caved. “Fine. But I’m blaming you when I get food poisoning.” 

Yes! He caved! “Perfect! Now, open your mouth, I’m gonna toss it in.” 

“I can feed myself, Shawn.” Nevertheless, he complied.  

Shawn picked a blueberry and stood there a moment, both to angle his shot and to just drink in the sight of his boyfriend standing there with his mouth wide open. 

“Boom! Hole in one!” Shawn cheered. 

Lassiter stayed quiet, chewing on the fruit. Shawn could see he was hiding his true emotions under a mask of indifference. But he recognized that sparkle in his eyes. Yeah, he liked it. A lot. 

“It’s acceptable.” He finally said after a second of faux consideration. And, facing the lady, he said “We’ll take a box.” 

“Two! Gotta get one for Gus. He’d never forgive me if I didn’t get him something.”  

“You mean if I didn’t get it. I am paying for this.” 

“And you're such a wonderful provider, Carlytown.” 

Lassiter knew that Shawn was just buttering him up, but he couldn’t help the smile growing at the praise. 

The lady, finally gathering herself, smiled at the two. “Certainly! That’ll be eight dollars.” 

One monetary exchange later, and they were walking away with two cartons of blueberries. Shawn reached over to the one Lassiter was holding and grabbed a handful, shoving them in his mouth. “You know, we should do this more often.” 

Lassiter chuckled. “No, no way. I’m glad you like this, Shawn. But I’m definitely not cut out for walking from stall to stall.” 

Shawn would have argued further, but something shiny caught his eye. “Ooo, look! They’ve got a glass blown pineapple!” And he was off, not checking to see if Lassiter was following him.

the guys find you two outside and you end up finding yourself all together sharing the moment now, so of course you all have to adjust and make room.

your head is laying on soaps shoulder while he has his arm wrapped around you, price has his head laid against your legs, gaz is behind the 3 of you with his head on the same pillow soaps head is on but he’s laying on the opposite side and ghost is sitting criss cross (apple sauce ofc) by you all.

you don’t know how but you all end up out there all night - sharing jokes and stories, childhood memories, playfully making fun of eachother and cuddling like chumps, price asking you to run your hands through his scalp and huffing anytime you stop (like when a dog side eyes you as you stop petting them) and then quickly smiling when you continue - you even caught simon swinging his legs while you were sharing scary stories and you and gaz almost died of laughter

“that shit was gay as hell” and he just rolls his eyes and grunts

but what did it for soap was the fact that gaz starts snorting with his laugh, and you’re wheezing.

these men were known to be very intimidating scary beings, soldiers and fighters first - but ever since you joined them they started remembering to have more fun - being that they joined this line of work so early in their lives they lost most of the opportunity to just exist and be. after the shit they’ve been through in their lives, you manage to just strengthen the faith they have in humanity with your caring tendencies.

after a while you can hear price snoring and ghost lets out a “heh, the old man’s fell asleep”

price slurs out a tired “m’not sleepin- just resting my eyes soldier.”

“right, i too snore when i “”rest my eyes”” sir” gaz says,

you just shush them and giggle but lightly, not to stir price since he’s against you still, arm now wrapped around your leg.

Season 2 final thoughts:

My apologies to my Psych mutuals, my hyperfixation took me on a trip to Hatchetfield and very soon it’ll be in cinderellas castle. It can’t be helped. I plan on finishing my rewatch, especially because I’m about to get into one of my favorite seasons, but it’ll probably be sporadic at best.

Here are my final thoughts on season 2!

This is the official season of lassie stumbling upon shawn and gus by happenstance. He does it in american duos, dis-lodged, black and tan, and im counting lassie standing in front of his pic at the museum. He can push them away as much as he wants but shawns like a boomerang.

I find it incredibly disrespectful that shawn and gus took credit for finding that dinosaur when that one guy literally died for it . Also im pretty sure it would be impossible for a t-rex to be discovered in california because it was all underwater at that time. But thats neither here nor there.

Shawn being a forgery/handwriting expert brings up a funny/depressing image of little shawn having to write lines but in different peoples handwritings

And not only deduced what actually happened, but also came up with a cover story for him at the same time.

Overall it was a great season! Juliet got some more scenes, plus her character is beginning to get fleshed out, Gus was even funnier than i remembered, the heartfelt moments were very well acted especially by james who nailed the whole avoidant turmoil of it all. Henry, though, as ive stated in previous posts, is a lot harder to watch as a full fledged adult. He’s just such a prick to shawn any chance he can get. I’m so curious if I’ll be able to forgive him myself down the road. I mean, no wonder Shawn split when he turned 18 and hardly spoke to him again. Man, i wish we could’ve seen Shawn right after he left cause that is one juicy peach. He’d just be all angsty, jumping from one job to the next, getting fired or losing interest (or my personal headcanon is that his gifts of seeing everything kept getting him in some sort of trouble kind of like Poker Face (with natasha lyonne)).

Interesting that the new Exploding Flowers album "Watermelon/Peacock" came across my radar while I was listening to Club 8. That was one of my easiest transitions between snooping listens I can recall.

This is our 3rd Exploding Flowers post in the past 5 years. There is only one song currently available for listen. The first half has a Club 8 (from the new release) vibe, while the instrumental outro recalls the finest work of Yo La Tengo, or David Kilgour. This song has fuller sound, less power poppy sound, than earlier Exploding Flowers (Los Angeles, California) releases.

Jimmi Simpson Has A Disappointing Update About A Return In Psych The Movie 4, But Promises "Mary Will Never Die"

Simpson also discussed the possibility of reprising his role as Mary Lightly in the fourth Psych movie. Although Mary died during the television series' fourth season, he has returned a number of times. Simpson reprised Mary Lightly in a dream sequence in both Psych: The Movie and Psych 2: Lassie Comes Home. Simpson also explained why he has returned to Psych so many times, even after his death.

Half the times early on, the reason why Mary kept coming back is, I don't know, early on I needed health insurance. Hello ! After searching for answers on my own but English not being my first language so I wasn’t sure of the tone, I’m at a loss so I’m here ! I’d like to find some nicknames that an older character calls a younger one but not as a cutesy way, more as teasy but at the same time not falling into being mean, stuff like "pipsqeak". If you have anything I’d be very happy ^^.

Non-Cutesy Nicknames for Younger Characters

I see where you're going with cute but not mean, so it's important to note that "pipsqueak" means "one who is small or insignificant," so it's mocking the young character's smaller size. Along those same lines would be: shrimp, squirt, half-pint, twerp, munchkin, sprout, small fry, junior, shortie, and whippersnapper. Also: Little Brother/Sister/Bro/Sis

General nicknames, which aren't size-related (but which are sometimes used snarkily toward other adults):

-- Kid -- Kiddo -- Bud/Buddy -- Pal -- Lad/Laddie/Lass/Lassie

More often than not based on the older character's first impression of the younger character due to appearance, behavior, actions, abilities, or situation.

For a young character who is/appears to be bossy, assertive, or a strong leader:

-- Chief -- Captain -- Boss -- Major -- General -- Commander -- Big Cheese -- Top Dog -- Kingpin -- Big Shot -- Big Wig -- Sheriff

For a young character who is/appears to be bold or high-spirited: -- Firecracker -- Tiger -- Sparky -- Spark Plug -- Turbo -- Fireball -- Flash For a young character who is/appears to be courageous/brave: -- Hero -- Braveheart -- Lionheart -- Dare Devil For a young character who is/appears to be a troublemaker:

Nicknames can also be based on other things about the young character, their situation, or how they met: Blue Eyes, Red (for a redhead), Chatterbox (talkative, or ironically for someone who's quiet), Apple Thief (they met when youngster was stealing an apple), NYC (the youngster came from New York), Dinner Plate (the initially alarmed youngster threw a dinner plate at them), Soda Pop (the youngster is wearing a Coca-Cola t-shirt)...

In other words, don't be afraid to brainstorm a bit and see if you can find something that is unique to the characters and situation.
