A majority of Desire for Peace is just me taking stuff people have done with the gods and doing the opposite, not because I think it makes me smart or cool, but because I find it super hilarious.

For example, you'd expect Ares would have a crazy sex life and does it all of the time with Aphrodite, considering he is with the actual goddess of sex.

Nope.

They spend many nights with Aphrodite reading an intense horror novel (no romance in it at all) and Ares reading The Moomins before they both just pass out.

Hey there guys! I know I haven’t posted in a long while but I thought to try posting here again to show off some of my art. On tiktok I’ve been working on this kinda little drawing series where I draw the Greek gods and goddesses in how I perceive them so I’ll show you the ones I’ve done so far. Also they were inspired from listening to epic the musical

Random Doodle: Ares & Aphrodite

This was mostly a body study and line art experiment

Mmm, my prayers suck lately since we have company sleeping in my room, that has my altars. So now I have to pray in the bathroom :/

So, cool little fun fact about me; I have aphantasia. If you tell me to envision anything, I can’t see anything.

It’s a bit better in my dreams where I see like, vague blotches of color that barely resemble what I am dreaming about, and I hear the dialogue from the people in my dreams.

This, sadly, makes it very hard to imagine what my deities would look like, BECAUSE I PHYSICALLY CANNOT SEE THEM. But, I do have some ideas of what they would look like :)

Thanatos: very pale, to the point his skin is a milky white. Darker, downturned eyes, gray or dark brown. Messier black hair that contrast with the paleness of his skin. I’ve always believed he would be wearing the long, black robes texts describe him wearing. I also think he would have wings on us back that would be on the larger side. I’ve also always believed he would exert a soft glow, a white light. Overall, I think he would look very ethereal.

Ares: Armor clad, almost constantly. Skin tan from years spent outside fighting battle after battle. I don’t think he would be as muscling as many artists depict him, but he would most certainly have some. Dark, curly brown hair. I feel like it would look similar to mine. For reference, my hair is such a dark brown it’s often looks black. I feel he would have almond shaped, hazel eyes. I don’t think he would have wings, and I don’t feel he would glow.

Aphrodite: Tan, beautifully clear skin. Pale green eyes, the color of the sea foam she rose from. Long, curly red hair that reaches her waist, perfectly maintained and absolutely gorgeous. I imagine she’d be wearing her famous girdle, along with a soft, pink dress. I think Aphrodite would have a gold glow, much stronger than Thanatos’s. I don’t think she would have any wings.

If there’s an artists who WANTS to draw that, I’d greatly appreciate it. I need to have art references because of my aphantasia. I can’t pay anyone (sadly, I would love to commission an artist) because I am broke.

Desire for Peace Webcomic

Aphrodite has many scars, from pregnancy and war— in reference to her Areia epithet and worship as a war goddess in Sparta. I'm thinking that her scars are from the Gigantomachy, since that is the only time we ever see Aphrodite actually fighting in text and artwork (against the giant, Mimon), to my knowledge, so they are not very old scars during the events of the comic.

For the sketch, I only had one scar on her chest, but I decided that wasn't enough. She needed more.

I’ve complained about this before but tldr I hate how the story of the binding of Hera is reduced to Aphrodite’s forced marriage when she literally had nothing to do with that story and it was about Hephaestus and Hera’s relationship, not a single source mentions her as a prize, let alone even mention her at all.

What I want to complain about now is how ppl insist that Hephaestus forced Aphrodite to marry him, which again, doesn’t have any basis within the mythology, but it also reminds me of how ppl think that Zeus forced Hera to marry him, when most sources don’t even imply that (at least SOME sources support this idea while nothing supports the idea that Aphrodite was forced to be married) it’s low key a victim blaming mentality, Hera couldn’t have loved Zeus and married him willingly bc that would mean that whenever he abuses her it’s her fault for choosing to be with him, so he must have forced her into that marriage and she never loved him.

Same with Hephaestus and Aphrodite but it’s inverted, Aphrodite couldn’t have loved Hephaestus and married him willingly bc she cheats on him, we can’t have nuance so it MUST mean the it was Hephaestus who did something wrong and pushed her to cheat, he must have been neglectful and forced her into the marriage! Look I promise you, you can like Aphrodite and defend her without making shit up about the only disabled guy in the pantheon, it’s very easy.

Tbh I think it would be much more interesting for Hephaestus and Aphrodite to have a consensual arranged marriage and that they did love each other, but their marriage started to fall apart even before the cheating and that divorce was a positive for both of them.
