My Fandom Events in 2023
Didn't do any! I joined the fandom in June and didn't write anything until July 🙃
Upcoming Events and Projects for 2024
This all depends on how many babies need delivering next year ngl, and how much of the year I spend on call but here's the WIPs I have so far!
To finish/publish:
With you I'm home - I quoted 20 chapters for this because Buck's Baby was also 20 chapters but I am 100% playing this by air. In this fic, we see Buck and Eddie embarking on their first year of marriage. They have a 2 year old son (Aidan) and Christopher, who is 14. This fic will show them navigating parenting a boisterous toddler and a sassy teenager while they begin their journey to having a new baby.
Cat Fic!! - this has been sitting in my WIPs folder for months now and I haven't had the beans to write it recently! Buck has adopted a cat with a curious name that brings a whole load of feelings to the forefront of his brain (is he saying I love you to the wrong Eddie?) and also provides some excellent material to fuck with his friends.
AUs that live in my head rent free
GTA AU - Listen I know this sounds weird, BUT, Buck and Eddie are heads of rival motorcycle gangs and constantly engage in turf wars. They realise they have the same product dealer for their cocaine lockups, who has been selling them dodgy product, resulting in loss of revenue for both men. They come together to confront the man realise they work extremely well together and who knows, maybe rival MC gang members can fall in love!
Piano Teacher!Buck, Parent!Eddie and Student!Chris - this was inspired by my Musician AU Play me like a fiddle, and was vaguely encouraged on Ao3 by @theotherbuckley, and will be a oneshot of Eddie coming to Buck after being referred to him by Christopher's physical therapy. Buck is more than happy to take Christopher on as a student is fast delighted by his constant, bubbly optimism. Eddie watches as Buck teaches his son and watches Christopher's confidence in himself build and realises, fuck, he's slowly falling in love with his son's teacher.
His Dark Materials AU - Buck finds himself in possession of an alethiometer and the more questions he asks of it, trying to figure out it's true meaning, the more he finds himself being drawn towards a dark, mysterious man he's noticed hanging around the college lately. Buck's daemon is instantly drawn to Eddie's daemon and the two find themselves unlikely friends, embarking on a quest to discover what it is the alethiometer is trying to warn them about.
Single Parents AU - Buck is the single father of two daughters and has just joined the 118 and is struggling to find his place. He meets another single father at his daughter's school in the pick up line one day and Eddie reveals he's training at the LAFD but struggling with childcare while he does it. Buck suggests they combine childcare and offers to help Eddie train, and even gets him a position in the 118 when Eddie graduates. How long will they coparent their three kids before they realise they've got it bad for each other?
Misc. ideas that haven't quite developed into fics yet but exist!
Magic Au - Buck and Eddie both have the power to control their auras (which have a colour and scent specific only to them) and go through rigorous training to enable them to save the earth from the Elder Race threatening to take over (inspired by Michael Scott's Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel)
Detectives AU - I've been watching too many Scandinavian crime shows and want to write Buddie solving a grisly murder
Chances are I'll come up with more over the summer!

The Attoye Archive Entries (001)
The River That Spills
(Link)
By LoeyAeri on AO3
Modern! AU, rated Teen & Up
Tumblr media
So far there are only three chapters, but it's set up beautifully from the jump. I'm intrigued, and I'm excited to see what happens next!
You start this fic watching Attuma carry a crate of snacks up to the front, at a small shop he runs. I interpreted it as a small, cozy convenience shop. There are a few customers here and there, trying to purchase some things they need while his young daughter, Saya, runs the cash register.
In the midst of completing these tasks, the sky decides to empty itself, and the downpour is so hard you can hardly see outside. Just visualize a bunch of potted plants fighting for their lives if you wish to know the storm's intensity. Attuma is concerned, but his mission to save those plants is delayed.
After dealing with an unruly customer and sending his daughter off to complete their inventory in the back, Attuma goes outside to cover those poor plants. However, while he's out there, he spots a figure a few feet away hunched over on the ground. He calls out to them, but they don't respond. After cautiously moving closer, he realizes that the person is emptying their stomach before they collapse.
Are they alive?
He checks.
Yes. They're breathing.
Out of concern, he scoops them up and tells his daughter to lock up the shop and to meet him in the car. He's moving quickly in the rain, clutching the mysterious person close before carefully setting them down in the car.
In this moment, he realizes it's a woman dressed poorly for the weather.
What happens next!?
You'll have to read to find out!

In The Stars: by ImaginaryCupcake, E, 90k
https://archiveofourown.org/works/55491352/
Still churning through AO3, I’ve probably read 10 works since my last. I guess my guidepost for whether to yell about them here is how excited I was to bookmark it, if that’s anything to go off. (Spoiler, I’ve got a 32k “1-shot” I’m in the middle of that I’m absolutely chomping at the bit to get to the end and kudos and bookmark. Maybe this weekend?)
And now: Human AU (basically anything from me just assume it’s a human AU, I’m too far in the rabbit hole right now), low angst, high pining, healthy communication (but not over-the-top), quality spice! Crowley works at an observatory, Aziraphale is a science teacher, meet cute and off to the races!
CW: eclipse photos below the break.
When I look at the pieces this author has already written, it doesn’t seem possible that they’ve only written 4 (so far) in the Good Omens-verse. I swear their first work I read, Found Among the Waves (https://archiveofourown.org/works/57015211/chapters/144994675 ) felt like I’d been reading them forever, in the best way. This is why I always look at the author profile for works I like. I probably never would have found it on my own, but something in the stars (😉) brought me to Found Among the Waves, which led me here.
I don’t think I can truly enjoy a story that doesn’t have some angst/pining, and this hits just the right notes for both, but no bandstanding or the like. The pining is written beautifully, in every sense. And if you enjoy (eventual) smut, this is what you’re been looking for. No major kinks or triggers I can think of, but *chefs kiss*. And plenty of it.
As a bonus it helped me calibrate my word replacer (not that it needs it but the extension is always on) because Shiraz became Shiraziraphale. But nothing has toppled “Aziraphaleana Grande.”
And just for fun, I actually had a 98% solar eclipse at my house earlier this year. I walked around a nearby park for it, looking at the shadows because I didn’t get eclipse glasses (don’t stare at the sun, kids!). They ended up being wilder than I could have imagined. The tree trunk shadows turned into birch trees, and the leaves curved like the moon. Both of these are taken of a sidewalk, for context. I am putting them below the break, for those who do not wish to view for cultural reasons.

Chapters: 13/? Fandom: Teen Titans (Animated Series) Rating: Explicit Warnings: Major Character Death Relationships: Raven/Red X, Raven/Jason Todd, Jinx/Wally West, Dick Grayson/Koriand'r Characters: Raven (DCU), Jason Todd, Red X Summary:
When Jason and Rae first met.
This is a very readable fanfiction that first focuses on JayRae (Jason and Raven) and RobStar (Dick and Kori). As the series progresses, a Jinx/Wally West and Jinx/Roy Harper dynamic enters into the storyline. There is a great deal of smut which is well done.
However, do be warned that this fanfiction is written more along the lines of your contemporary romance novel than a fanfiction specifically created for Teen Titans. The summary does not do the story justice nor does it really give a good summary of the fanfiction. This fanfiction is solely focused on the relationship drama of the characters and does not cover any of the crime-fighting/superhero aspects inherent in the fandom.
Personal Rating: 3.5 of 5
Metaphorical Aftertaste: Feels like I just ate a slice of warm toast with some Nutella on it.
Worth Rereading: Not really. While readable, it does not induce me to reread it just for the storyline. I am curious to see where it is going but that is it.
My Gripe: My two main gripes with this fanfiction is that it doesn’t set the right expectations for the readers by not providing a proper summary and this fanfiction is written like a “normal” romance novel and not a fanfiction for this fandom. There is no real incorporation of their superhero identities into the storyline other than simply using them as a plot point for added drama. At the time of this writing, there are no chapters dealing with superhero action scenes. This fanfiction is more of a teen drama than something involving superheroes that are fighting crime. I think this fanfiction would benefit from some fight scenes and/or including a collaborative investigation by this group of characters into the plot so that it is a more well-rounded fanfiction. It would help demonstrate how they can or can’t work together under high-pressure situations as well as show new sides of their romantic relationships and friend-group dynamic.
Why Read It: This is a very readable series that is entertaining for the reader. It could benefit from some story editing or a revamp, in my humble opinion. I like that it does explore the non-fantastical drama involving these characters. I think this is a fanfiction that should be read if you are looking for something to scratch your particular ship-itch (lol, that was an unintentional rhyme) and if you are looking for something new to read.

How To Plan A Book Series: Ultimate Guide
Writing a book series can be an incredibly rewarding experience for authors, but it also requires careful planning and execution. A well-crafted book series can captivate readers, build a loyal fan base, and provide a steady stream of income for writers. However, planning a successful book series is no easy feat.
It demands a deep understanding of world-building, character development, and plot progression. In this ultimate guide, I'll help you explore the essential steps to help you plan a compelling and cohesive book series that will keep your readers hooked from start to finish.
Develop a Compelling Premise The foundation of any successful book series is a strong premise. Your premise should be unique, engaging, and have the potential to sustain multiple books. Consider exploring a complex world, a captivating concept, or a character with a rich backstory that can evolve over the course of several books. Ask yourself: What makes your premise stand out? What will keep readers invested in the story for multiple installments?
Create a Detailed Outline Before you dive into writing, it's crucial to create a detailed outline for your entire book series. This outline should include the overarching plot, major story arcs, character development, and key events for each book. Having a solid outline will help you maintain consistency, avoid plot holes, and ensure that each book contributes to the overall narrative. Don't be afraid to make adjustments as you write, but having a roadmap will keep you on track.
World-Building: Crafting a Vivid and Consistent Universe One of the hallmarks of a successful book series is a richly developed and immersive world. Whether you're creating a fantasy realm, a futuristic society, or a contemporary setting, pay close attention to world-building. Establish the rules, customs, histories, and geography of your fictional world. Consistency is key, so ensure that the details align across all books in the series. Consider creating a "bible" or a comprehensive guide that outlines the intricacies of your world, making it easier to maintain continuity.
Develop Compelling Characters Great characters are the heart and soul of any book series. Your protagonists, antagonists, and supporting characters should be well-rounded, multi-dimensional, and undergo significant growth and transformation throughout the series. Craft backstories, motivations, flaws, and strengths for each character, and ensure that their actions and decisions drive the plot forward. Remember, character development is an ongoing process, so be prepared to explore new facets of your characters as the series progresses.
Establish Recurring Themes and Motifs Themes and motifs are powerful tools that can add depth and resonance to your book series. Identify the central themes you want to explore, such as love, redemption, power, or identity. Weave these themes throughout the series, allowing them to evolve and deepen with each installment. Motifs, like recurring symbols or imagery, can also create a sense of cohesion and add layers of meaning to your narrative.
Plan for Cliffhangers and Resolutions One of the key strategies for keeping readers engaged in a book series is the strategic use of cliffhangers and resolutions. Cliffhangers create anticipation and leave readers craving for the next installment. However, be cautious not to overuse this technique, as it can become frustrating for readers. Balance cliffhangers with satisfying resolutions that tie up loose ends and provide a sense of closure, while still leaving room for the story to continue.
Consider Pacing and Narrative Structure Pacing and narrative structure are crucial elements to consider when planning a book series. Each book should have its own narrative arc, with a beginning, middle, and end, while also contributing to the overall story progression. Vary the pacing between books to maintain reader interest, alternating between action-packed and slower, more introspective sections. Experiment with different narrative structures, such as multiple perspectives, non-linear timelines, or frame narratives, to keep the series fresh and engaging.
Manage Continuity and Consistency As your book series grows, maintaining continuity and consistency becomes increasingly important. Keep detailed records of character descriptions, plot points, world-building elements, and timelines. Regularly refer back to these notes to ensure that you're not introducing contradictions or inconsistencies. Consider creating a series bible or a wiki to help you keep track of all the moving parts.
Plan for Character Growth and Evolution In a book series, characters should undergo significant growth and evolution. Plan for character arcs that span multiple books, allowing your protagonists and supporting characters to face challenges, make difficult choices, and emerge as changed individuals. This character development will not only add depth to your narrative but also keep readers invested in the journey of your characters.
Anticipate and Address Potential Plot Holes As your book series expands, the potential for plot holes and inconsistencies increases. Be vigilant in identifying and addressing these issues during the planning stage. Regularly review your outline and notes, looking for any logical gaps or contradictions. Enlist the help of beta readers or critique partners to provide fresh perspectives and catch any potential plot holes you may have missed.
Consider the Overarching Story Arc While each book in your series should have its own narrative arc, it's essential to plan for an overarching story arc that spans the entire series. This overarching arc should tie together the individual books, building towards a climactic conclusion that resolves the central conflict or mystery. Ensure that each book contributes to this larger narrative, advancing the plot and raising the stakes for the characters.
Plan for Marketing and Promotion Finally, as you plan your book series, don't overlook the importance of marketing and promotion. Develop a strategy for building buzz and engaging with your audience throughout the release of each book. Leverage social media, author events, book tours, and other promotional opportunities to keep your readers excited and invested in your series.
Remember, writing a book series is a marathon, not a sprint, so be prepared to invest time, effort, and dedication into crafting a truly remarkable literary journey. Hope this helped!
Happy Writing - Rin T.

UPDATED FOR 2024 USE!
Major Changes:
Code is View Only, so must be saved onto your own Google Account (this means you won't see someone else using the code, which is Good)
Username and Password are now hidden for privacy
Option to generate a csv file at the end (I have plans for that)
AO3 Wrapped (but this one works)
This is a code I created that will essentially let you generate an "Ao3 Wrapped" of any year your account has been active in. I know there are other codes out there that also do this but I personally have never gotten them to work; specifically, this code is a re-tooling of klipklapper's code, with code also being borrowed from tessmonical's work to get the login stuff to work. The biggest difference is that I got this to run on all years, not just 2023. I also plan on expanding this a bit futher when I can (adding fun little tidbits I can find in the data, creating video like Spotify's Wrapped using MoviePy, etc.)
Tumblr media
This is what the first half of the code looks like; there are little play buttons beside each step that you simply have to run and input things when asked.
The bottom half (with some of my results):
Tumblr media
Since the code has to go through your entire history (and only then filter for the year), this may take longer for some users; there will be times where AO3 will also send back a retry in a few minutes message, but the code will handle this! Just be patient :)

It's so weird writing fanfiction now.
Comments are like unicorns. So rare.
It's a bit disheartening since you can't even get feedback and I don't know if I did okay or not. And I know I got clicks, too since I do get kudos at the very least. But comments hit different, because they can uplift an author the same way a fic lets a reader's imagination soar.

A QUICK GUIDE TO AO3 CUSTOMIZATION FROM SOMEONE WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT CODING
Tumblr media
ft adding pink to everything and my secret to writing long comments
note: I originally posted this to twt but if that place burns in a fiery pit I spent too long on this for it to disappear, so I'm putting it here too :)
so many people know way more about this than I do, but this is a step-by-step walkthrough of the changes *I've* made, and hopefully it works as an introduction people can build from for whatever they'd like to do
There are a lot of images in this post! (click to enlarge)
to start, AO3 skins
site skins change how the AO3 website appears when logged in (even on mobile), mine is pink and blue!
Tumblr media
I'll have my skin turned off throughout the post so the guides appear as they will for you
to create, edit, and view skins, go to the "skins" tab from the left-hand menu. you can also view public site skins from there or from the button in the preferences.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
public site skins are made by other users. i would really encourage previewing and exploring them to become familiar with the possibilities (maybe you just want to use one of them and now you're done!)
to create your own skin
on the skins page, click "create site skin"
if you don't know CSS (same), use the wizard! clicking on the "?" will give more information about each option
I only use the colours section you'll see a link right there for hex codes I use pink as a header colour and bue for accent but lots of people change the background colour and that looks really cool!
submit
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next step (optional!!!) is to add CSS from a public skin to your own. I use "ByLine" by Branch. this separates the tag categories and adds spacing to make them easier to read.
here is a before and after using the fic "Landslide" by @roosterbruiser as an example
Tumblr media Tumblr media
to see the CSS of a skin, click the title
copy all the text below the CSS heading
in the skin creator/editor press the custom CSS option and paste all the text into the CSS box
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you can have both wizard and custom CSS settings, in mine you can see the header and accent colours as well as the CSS
Tumblr media
level up: USERSCRIPTS
userscripts are small pieces of code that modify a website. for AO3, this may involve adding shortcuts and buttons or even advanced tagging functions (computer people, I'm so sorry if this is wrong, I'm trying). I use Greasy Fork and Tampermonkey.
This is how I write long and formatted comments!
Greasy Fork is an archive of userscripts and Tampermonkey is a browser extension and userscript manager. You don't need to use these two in particular. please use your common sense when downloading anything or adding permissions to your browser.
Greasy Fork guide on installing scripts
Install Tampermonkey on Chrome
there are TONS of user scripts for AO3. This is another good opportunity to explore all the possibilities. there are lots of more complicated options I haven't explored.
scripts for AO3
Tumblr media
i use this floaty review box
and this comment formatting
EDIT: if you use chrome you might need to turn on developer mode in your chrome extension manager - you can google "tampermonkey developer mode" and it should explain that :)
to install (once you have Tampermonkey installed):
open the script you want in Greasy Fork and press install
Tampermonkey will open, press install again
Tumblr media Tumblr media
clicking the Tampermonkey extension will let you toggle scripts on and off, and opening the dashboard will let you view, edit, and delete scripts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i find i can only have a few turned on at a time before they cancel each other out, but that depends on which ones you're using and someone more savvy might be able to fix that
how to use the floaty review box - write more comments!
there will now be a "floaty review box" button at the top of the work, it will open a floating text box you can move anywhere on the page. highlighting any text and pressing the insert button will paste the text with italics into the box
Tumblr media Tumblr media
anything you type in the review box will appear in your comment at the bottom of the page!
if you have also installed the comment formatting script, you'll be able to highlight any text in your comment and use the new buttons above the comment box to format it
Tumblr media
thats all ive got! Hopefully this is a good starting point to get familiar with some of the terms and basics for skins and scripts <3
if you want some inspo for how to comment on fics i made a whole fic rec list on twitter based on comments I've left, it's here. i have a masterlist of recs there mostly for darklina/reylo and similar ships.
the tag #reading with ru has cod recs and me talking about books
:)

A Night For Bad Dreams
(Link)
By jbarneswilson on AO3 (@jbarneswilson )
Rated General Audiences
Tumblr media
If you want to read something short and sweet, this fic is perfect! It's a hurt and comfort fic that's about 720 words.
It begins late at night, when Okoye is torn from her sleep by a troubling dream.
The night is still, and all seems well until she realizes that her bed is empty.
And when she goes to check on her children, one of the beds is empty.
The gears are turning, and she's moving forward with urgency to find everyone that is missing.
There's no movement in the house.
No distant whispers or midnight snacks being eaten.
Where are they?
You'll have to read to find out!
