#Anyways the time has come to design a fursona

Find myself both wanting to design a fuzzy lil sona (probably like a mix between a cat and a bat since those are my two favorite animals) but also wanting to draw my new blorbo Chilchuck

Evolution of my fursona/art style over the past 15 years. Say what you will, but I genuinely think fursonas as a concept are a fascinating form of self-expression and just find it interesting to look back and track the changes of not only my art skills/style but also of the way I chose to present myself at various points in my life.

I had two distinct art "phases" during my teenage years. The first one was around middle school, in which I was your standard cringy furry kid on the internet with a plethora of brightly-colored Mary Sue OCs.

The second one was around high school and into college, at which point I got more serious about art (preparing to apply for the BYU animation program) and decided that I was too Mature™ for unnaturally colored characters, among other things (that's where I changed Natti's color scheme from blue to brown, and there were also a few years where she was actually changed to entirely white with no markings, though that iteration never got a ref sheet and therefore isn't represented here).

In retrospect I actually kinda view the second phase as cringier than the first. I don't regret the phase—I think it was overall beneficial to my art journey and I definitely learned a lot during it—I just wish I hadn't had such a stick up my butt about it. I wouldn't have worded it this way at the time, but I looking back I definitely had it in my head that I was a Special And Good Artist for figuring out that unrealistic colorful characters are Not Okay for whatever reason, and I lowkey looked down my nose at younger artists who "hadn't figured it out yet", which....yeeeeeeeah, that attitude was pretty cringe. But that's teenagers for ya, I suppose.

Anyways, I find it pretty fascinating that by complete coincidence, the current iteration of my fursona—who I designed as an adult and whose design has remained stable for around seven years now—happens to represent the color schemes of her iterations from both of those eras: the blue whimsy of the middle school iterations, and the brown and white of her high school iterations.

This wasn't intentional—fun fact, the reason the current version of my fursona has the white/brown/blue color scheme is that when I initially went to design her I was aiming for a dilute calico pattern, with the gray stylized to blue. I wound up abandoning the calico idea because I couldn't nail down a splotch pattern I was satisfied with, but kept the colors.

Yet despite the fact that it's coincidence, it's still pretty cool that my current fursona has those elements of all her predecessors, because it's as if all those phases and experiences and growth have come together to form the person I am now and it's represented visually.

It's also interesting how her design changed so often when I was a kid/teenager, but now as an adult it's stabilized.

like, idk, maybe I'm just looking wayyyy too deep into things here, but I feel like there's some sort of psychology at play lol. But who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

do you think furries exist in the undertale universe or are they labeled as like monster apologists

Of course furries would exist in the UT universe. Have you seen Mew Mew Kissy Cutie? Sure, she may not be a truly furry design since she just has cat ears + a cat tail, but it shows that a human with animal features isn't beyond human invention. All you gotta do is push the animal features a bit more and boom! Furry design!

I've always had the HC that modern humans in UT are entirely unaware of the existence of monsters and magic outside of like. Pop culture and Halloween and myths and folktales, which changed and altered lots of details. The first war between humans and monsters happened so long ago that monsters became a myth to humans as the years passed. Along with monsters becoming myths, magic fell into antiquity before disappearing entirely from the human population. Essentially, the Surface is a sort of a reflection of our modern era, except perhaps a bit more futuristic since it's implied that Undertale is set in the future, with Chara having fallen into the Underground back in 201X, which is supposed to be "a long time ago" (anybody ready for the iPhone 86, which comes with a hologram projection feature that nobody uses because it sucks ass?).

But yeah. Back on topic: What happens to furries when monsters come to the Surface. Well, I imagine that the furry community experiences a massive upheaval. The discourse is insaaaaaaaaane. Is it insensitive to have a fursona that you present yourself as online? What about what type of sona you have (like if it's based off a monster or made to look less like an UT monster)? Does this make it more or less acceptable? You'll also have whatever conservative news outlet there is in the UT universe running think pieces about how kids are expressing a desire to turn into monsters by drawing themselves as like. An anthro bunny. God, these monsters are corrupting our youth, won't somebody think of the children???? You'll also have plenty of cases of disappointment from monsterfuckers when they find out that their werewolf boyfriend is actually pretty goofy instead of sexy and broody and isn't going to, um.

Anyways...

I think that for the most part, monsters would find furries pretty cool though. Like, yooooooo. You have a wolfsona with orange fur and neon bones? That's so cool! Can I make a humansona? (and, good lord, that has its own discourse).

the anniversary of the first time I posted art of Storm online is coming up... on the 19th it'll have been 13 years. damn.

I've been going through a bunch of old art of her to put together a cool retrospective post and the thought has occurred to me that. if I really wanted to be consistent with her design through the years (but evil to anyone who draws her) I should flip the coloring of the feathers on her front right leg.

waaaaaay way back in her very first iteration, back when she was still Color instead of Storm, one of her key design points was that the rainbow marking on her right foreleg was flipped compared to all three other legs. I was always really intentional about that. something something trying to make my sparklecat more unique, the right foreleg is special because I'm right handed and she's my fursona, y'know.

anyway that design note got dropped when I dropped the rainbow motif from her entirely in late 2015. I did decide that she has fluorescent markings under blacklight in 2021 though, and the rainbow fluorescence is flipped like her old markings were lol

the thing is, she does have colored markings on her legs again, and has since 2017. her feathers.

and I could be really silly and just...flip their coloring. or something.

maybe not inverting the colors overall, but I could just flip which side the little orange and yellow tick marks are on.

(of course, it's already a bit hard to keep track of what side the tick marks should be on. I've messed it up myself before and I don't think I'd hold it against anyone else if they did either lmao, it's already a win if they get included at all)

I'm just.... hmmm. would this be worth changing for the new ref sheet, even if it's just a personal laugh?

Gosh, what a surprise :O

But yeah. I mean, firstly, the cool factor is undeniable. It's always such a joy designing Tzimisce characters because even toeing the strictest borderlines of canon they're allowed to get real weird with it in a way that most other clans aren't. I don't mean this as hate at all so I hope it doesn't come across like that, all clans are beautiful <3 but if you're playing Ventrue, Brujah, Tremere etc to some degree you'll always just be playing as Some Guy. With a Tzim it’s like…Do you want some sick-ass bone blades on your arms? No problem! Another pair of arms to put more bone blades on? Sounds good! Do you want to be bioluminescent like a squid? Great! Go crazy! 

Second: Full disclosure, I am the “My fursona is my TWOO SELF” flavor of furry. And the idea of having near total freedom of form— to be able to give myself a tail, claws, fangs, horns, [long censor beep], whatever I want, to abandon my human shape, fills me with Yearning. 

In the complete opposite direction, I also find personal meaning in the clan as someone who suffers from chronic pain. Shamelessly copy-pasting a reply to another post: 

The flavoring of Vicissitude as a creeping infection, as the actual body of the Eldest spread from generation to generation, able to rise up and consume its bearers at any moment, resonates with me very deeply as someone whose pain is caused by congenital tissue defects and which will inevitably get worse over time.

The idea that…there’s something horrible lurking inside your body. It can’t be cured. It can’t be removed. It is part of the very fabric of your being. And it is going to eat you alive, it is going to eat and eat until there’s nothing left. That no matter how you struggle, eventually it’s going to win. But you struggle anyways, because what the hell else is there to do?

The clan also has its revenant families, who are all collectively my most Specialist Little Guy in the world. I am a huge sucker for ye old trope of Special Family Bloodline Technique, and they scratch that itch for me in a really fun and interesting way. 

Second favorite: Giovanni. I actually don't have any deep reasons for this one, I just think that “fucked up necromancer vampire crime family” is such a fun concept lol. I like organized crime stories. It's also another one for the “bloodline technique” category— in v20, they even have their own associated revenant family, the Rossellinis! 

Third favorite: Salubri. The vibe I get is that they’re deeply underappreciated because people feel like their designation in both fluff and crunch as “the nice ones” means that they’re boring and clash with Masquerade’s overall tone. But I STRONGLY disagree— I think that's exactly what gives them so much potential for the sort of personal, existential horror that is supposed to be at the heart of Masquerade. I actually want to write a much longer post sometime that really gets into why, but part of it is this— being a magical pacifist unicorn prancing in a sunny flower field isn't “horrifying,” but being a magical pacifist unicorn in a dark forest where the only other animals are wolves that want to eat your face sure is. I also think the contrast between mainline (healer) Salubri and Salubri antitribu is a really rich thematic vein— again, I want to write more on this later. 

Bloodline lightning round:

Ahrimanes: Cat-themed woman power. I like the concept of Gangrel in tune with the spiritual elements of nature. Spirits in World of Darkness are fun because they can be anything. 

Ventrue antitribu: Knights in modern settings are cool.

However, if the question was “Which clan are you most like?” instead of “What's your favorite”, the answer is far and away Toreador. I love making art, and while I mostly just write now because my body has kind of fallen apart, I used to dabble in a bunch of different mediums and loved them all. That and I already do the “oh that flower/painting/ random pattern of light on the wall is really pretty *zones out and stares at it*” thing in real life lol so that would just be business as usual. If I couldn't be a Meat Criminal this is actually the clan I'd choose to be embraced into.

this is the alec that everyone draws the first time they draw alec. hair not fully curly. vaguely fitting the description of A Little Guy but otherwise nondistinct. 4/10 this is what alec looks like from a distance of 15 feet if you squint

proof of the rule wrt alec that the masks people make up for him when they forget his canon design (literally just a blank white smirking mask) are always accidentally thematically relevant or interesting. wake up puppet boy. curly hair win but the outfit has not been fully faggified yet. 7/10 this sufficiently captures the essence of alec. i shouldve done a five-star rating system i like it better. oh well vibes-based 10 star system it is

these are all already scoring higher than many alecs because they come with the default understanding that he 1. is smalled 2. has curly hair and 3. is gnc so we can get into more specific critique. not actually a skirt wearer but that's my fault for trying to cram him in them anyway. it just will not take he just doesnt like skirts or dresses except for dead princess ghost nightgowns. he doesn't wear the super fancy clothing in public unmasked for a few reasons but, like, that's functionally a nitpick--it's alec looking like alec in clothing alec would, at one point or another, wear. 9/10

he's got sleek black riding boots instead of lace-up ones but like. yeah these are all far above the usual bar for attempts at drawing alec. little guy poofy gay outfit etc etc. on a tangential note people Should give him fun fancy mask designs of their choosing but also so many people do that that i kind of wish i could see a few drawings of him with the mask he actually has LMAO. anyway 6/10 i think the inaccurate boots and smiley cute-looking mask shift his energy a little to be slightly peppier than it should be but, like, that is alec.

this is a jean paul and not alec and its also a Fursona which is, like jean paul, on a different scale than alec. 10/10 jean-paul and fursona though. Okay, so I made this poll a while back and the results came back with a split between cheetah, pangolin, kobold/dragon, and absol.

Well, I've been roughing out some stuff and practicing a bit. Turns out non-sonic furries are hard to do. Who knew? But I did come to some conclusions.

Cheetah is out. I just... don't want to do the spot patterns. Even with a special brush it's a chore.

Kobold/Dragon was also a little tougher than I expected and I kinda didn't want another reptile this time anyway.

Absol was promising but I've been having trouble trying to customise the face and hair the way I want. It looks okay but not great y'know? I might come back to it later.

But Pangolin? I'm kinda feeling it and I was not expecting to. When I sketched one out I ended up with something I kinda liked.

That enigmatic smile. This is my Mona Lisa. I don't even know if I can recreate this.

The goal was to create a fursona that was closer to me. I used my own body as reference. She has slightly fuzzy cheeks and a noticable adam's apple to show that she doesn't entirely pass. She has the dark circles that I have under my eyes.

I don't think this is the final design, I think I will make some tweaks to it first. But what do people think? Have I found a winner?

Character design is hard

Genshin recently released some creatures that look like a much better version of my fursona ideas I attempted to make in the past. It’s resurfaced a reoccurring issue I’ve struggled with since I first started drawing, as a matter of fact. Every single one of my design is practically a 1 for 1 of something else, but ✨stylized✨. They are boring, simple, plain, and definitely plagiarized to some degree. When I do try to make something unique, it comes out looking half baked at best.

To add to insult to injury, it turns out that nobody really likes my fursona designs I’ve made for them. Well… I guess that’s not entirely accurate. They only like it because I made it and it’s a “neat” design. Not because they actually relate to it in any way, which defeats the whole fucking point. Never mind that I spent months trying to figure out which type of animal would most accurately depict by using years of observing their mannerisms. Quite literally losing sleep over it thanks to it being a hyperfixation until I figured it out. Which, to be fair to them, is understandable since my designs are all shit anyways ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ one of them is literally just a stuffed animal I saw and put it in a dress, and another is basically a recolored version of a comic I used to read, which because of the colors I chose gets mistaken for Fluttershy. Not a *single* one of my friends actually relates to them despite all the effort I put in.

Then again, I guess I did do that on purpose to a degree. I chose these creatures after careful deliberation, and not so much preference. For example: I have a friend who LOVES raccoons, but I personally think a rat suits him better. Raccoons are round, slow, gluttonous, a bit of a goblin, bot overall pretty chill. ….he, however, is none of those things. He is highly intelligent, nervous, *needs* routine, and is uncomfortable with breaking away from patterns. He needs tests and has a very reward centric personality, or at least a huge fear of failure. But, can still be soft and sweet, albeit a bit always, It reminds me of a lab rat.

I like the challenge of trying to figure something out from a psychological perspective more so than what I think is cool. I also like the idea of using something I’m not super into as a way of learning to love aspects myself. Otherwise, I would have chosen a fox. I was obsessed with them for a long time. So much so that my “fursona” as a kid was Renamon for a long time. Because I’m an unoriginal hack. However, foxes have a lot of symbolism that I don’t really have. They also don’t share visual features or personality traits with me. Except maybe the weird screaming. If I were a fox, it would no longer be “me” anymore. I would be cool, for one thing. Ha ha

All in all, I think I’m just gonna stop trying. My fursonas are shit. They always have been. Designing them is upsetting because I hate how basic all my designs are. I should just stick with people. Especially since the hard work amounts to nothing and doesn’t matter anyways, so I’m just gonna give up on this aspect and stop trying to do something that clearly isn’t working. I’ll just stick to making boring ass fanart sketches with 2/3rds profile headshot.

hmm, he's very new, so there isn't a lot to know about him as a fictional character currently.

any character i designate a "fursona" is a bit more like a branch of my personality, and ends up embodying specific moods or emotions rather than fully emcompassing my identity the way a "persona" is usually presented as. that's why i got so many of the damn things.

but i also let their individuality develop over time through thinking about how they would interact with each other and respond to different situations. starling being as new as he is means he's had less time to cook. but there's a little bit about him.

the thing about accidentally assigning a dude to represent who you are when you're nobody is that it's impossible to say who he really is, but i know how i feel when i'm no one, and that's as real as anything else i guess.

i get really, really metaphysical and detached from anything familiar when i spend prolonged periods (like, most of the day) depersonalizing. on the occasions where i also derealize, everything has the potential to be real because nothing is. my characters take on a feeling of "realness" they don't have outside of that state of mind, and the world itself feels constructed, like a movie. there's been times when i closed my eyes, i was convinced i could see every individual atom making up my perception of reality, which i thought was really scary despite it being obviously not true.

he's not really anxious so much as he's stuck in the existential. trying to get through to him emotionally is a waste of time. you could call him a dipshit having a doom spiral to try to get a reaction and he would just quietly agree and go back to thinking about how fucked up it is that consciousness exists and disparate elements baked into the shape of a human can perceive and understand what it's made of, and where it comes from. the universe knowing itself, etc, except it's deeply troubling and Wrong instead of amazing and cool.

everything feels wrong all the time, but it's not because everything else is fake (not usually), it's because he shouldn't be real. he thinks about me (who i am normally) as if i'm a concept he can't grasp. my own memories feel like someone else's grainy vhs recordings, and they take on this curious aura, like, "huh, it's so strange i know about these things, because they definitely didn't happen to me."

but then the thing is, the "me" in that situation doesn't exist, so then i wonder who i am, and it creates this horrible feeling of being adrift inside someone else's life, and at some point it's just me waiting to wake up and become normal again because Being Nobody is the worst thing ever. if i spend too long thinking about things that scare me when i'm like that, i kinda go insane, so the only thing to do is distract myself where i can.

i think, when i'm starling, i'm convinced i never had an identity to begin with. i become absolutely sure that the only proof of my existence lies in my art alone. words i've written on a computer came from someone else, but The Real Me, whoever that is or isn't, had to be the one who made the pictures because i have hands and when i move them, more pictures appear. and that's troubling, too, because it means who i am is contained in those markings alone, nowhere else.

y'know, and then i go back to normal and remember, "ah, yes, but i have a body and who i am lives in that, actually, so the pictures probably aren't nearly as important as i thought."

but anyway. sorry about rambling, lol. since my fursonas are just me, i end up talking about me. yeesh.

Heir’s favorite posts of 2022

It’s that time of year again: the end. So I get to talk about my favorite things I posted. It’s funny, I feel like I really didn’t draw that much more than last year, and I certainly didn’t get any better. If anything, I’ve probably regressed. But even then, in these past few months I’ve probably felt more joy about drawing than I have in a long time. In a way, it feels like I’ve removed all my expectations for myself and I just... I just get to draw whatever I want, and it doesn’t matter if it looks sucky to me. “Face didn’t come out right? That’s fine, it still looks cute. It doesn’t look as good as it used to? No worries, you’ve done it before and you’ll do it once more. And even if you don’t, you can still have fun with it and make people happy.”

Maybe I’m just finally done with being mean to myself about my drawings. Maybe I just wanna draw cute/silly stuff for my friends. Because, as I’ve said before, you don’t have to be great and powerful to make something that makes a great and powerful difference in someone’s day. Anyway...

Ol’ Reliable Applejack. This is one of the first drawings I made with my new tablet, and the first one that made me think “Okay... I can still do this.” Even before my bestest most favorite tablet broke, I hadn’t been feeling the whole “drawing” thing in awhile. As simple as this looks, it felt like a real turning point.

Internet Fuzz Queens. As a very young child, I had this idea in my head that all my favorite cartoon characters lived in a community together and they would hang out and stuff. This is was an extremely self-indulgent comic that required specific knowledge of four different fandoms, and I want to do more like it. I love my blorbos and I want to see them hang out together.

Angel Byrd. My OC turned space kangaroo in my Scum and Villainy campaign. I’m glad I got to give her a little more pizzazz. I forgot to mention it in the original post, but the reason her dress has a tummy window is because she’s planning on smuggling museum artifacts in her pouch lol. We’re actually doing the second part of the heist tomorrow, wish us luck!

Kaysee Cadet! A character I made for a dnd Humblewood campaign. I really love how this came out. Ultimately I did settle on the orange fur, but maybe I’ll do something with that black fur design at some point. Gawd I’ve grown really attached to this character. They’re autistic, and they’re not native to the setting of the campaign, so “common” isn’t their first language. It’s been really difficult for them to navigate the world, and some people have been quite cruel to her, including her own family. All she wants is love, and they try SO HARD to help people despite everything, and we’re getting to the part in the campaign where the party transitions from “ragtag group of weirdos forced together” to “found family.” But tragedy struck in the last session of the year, and now it’s more of a “darkest hour” moment. And I’m just... I love my blorbos, especially the ones I made up ;_;

Give Trans Girls Swords. Winter is this lovely artist’s sheep fursona. I’d been wanting to draw them for awhile, she has such an appealing design. This was so fun to draw, I love making things for friends and also giving trans girls swords.

I really want to make my own fursona one of these days...

 Miss Pie’s Monsters. It was... so nice to see the monster gang again. MPM is absolutely one of those projects that I never stopped thinking about, never lost hope that I could finish it one day, even those it’s been years since its last real update. I’m happy with myself for sticking to the update schedule I promised, even if I was calling it close sometimes lol. I hope people liked seeing them again. And to the people that I know liked seeing them again: first, I love u, I hope I can continue to update it in the coming year. I can’t wait to reveal who the Captain of the guard really is.

Stay fantastic, I hope we all have a better 2023. Or at the very least, make it through it together. <3

SO ! ampen right ? my little guy ? my baby girl ? my beloved ? I'm gonna talk mostly abt their physical design than their other details bcs I have more notes abt their physical appearance than anything :]

I have no idea what they are, I kinda just started drawing her abhdjsjsj but I think the two most notable animals he could conceivably be are probably a fox and a dragon of some sort (original I know) however I do want to give an honorable mention to my first draft of them, bcs goddamn I changed a lot abt her bsjdhsjjs. at first he was just completely a dog but I decided to give them those 3 fingered claw/hoof things, here's the very sketchy guy herself who inspired Ampen:

yeah snndjsn basically the only thing that stayed the same was the vague color scheme and the "hooves" changed from the hands to the feet. a lot of ampens physical design was just cool things I saw in other fursuits that I thought would be cool, like I just loooove the hoof feet, they look v cool and I just like them a lot, so I included them ! (I didn't in my first real drawing of ampen but then I did on their character sheet) same with the tail, I'm p sure at the time of ampens actual creation I had recently seen a dragon fursuit with that kind of tail and was obsessed with it, I tried so many different tails for him and none of them were looking quite right until I tried their current tail, and I love it . the dragon bit also comes out in her muzzle, it's a bit more pointed and sharp than a canine muzzle would be, again mostly just bcs I think it looks neat :] and I knew I wanted my fursona to have big ol ears from the very beginning, I didn't put them on ampen-rough-draft bcs I didn't start with the intent for him to be my fursona sbjdjdjs but anyways- the fur pattern took me a while to come up with, I started with just vague splotches of color in random spots, messed around with specific colors, I don't think I decided on the pink stitch mark things until like- the very end dnjsjjd I have no idea where I came up with it , I was just trying random things and hoping they looked right lmao-

I gave them glasses bcs . I have glasses . and I think it's cute and there aren't enough furrys with glasses :3 then added the piercings bcs I think they look cool and that's really it bajshjejskwks

anyways , now for the couple things that aren't visible on a drawing, I imagine her being like 5'4 MAX , he's pretty short . mostly bcs I am v short and plan to actually make ampen, and that's a height I could realistically get to accounting for the ears hdjwjdjjejdke anyways, I don't really have many other little facts about them since they're basically just me personality-wise, so make of that what you will ! I will however GLADLY answer more specific questions if you (or anyone else 👀) have them bcs it will give me an excuse to come up with answers abhdjsjdjsjjd

Hmmm tough one actually! I'd probably have to go with my darling emotional fursona Shenmi!

I'm not much of a party goer. While I'd have a lot of OCs that would plan a whole lot for me and would get me to party hard, I muuuuch rather prefer something calm and quiet. Either Shenmi would invite me to hang out and chill and do whatever I want to do, or she'd organisze something sweet like making my favourite food or going out on a picnic somewhere quiet. She'd be the one to make sure I do something I enjoy, not what others enjoy!

I'd definitely have to say TUCKER on this one.

Tucker is huge PUPPY beneath a scruffy adult exterior. He looks like a tough roughian, but really he is just a sweet guy. He gets easily excited, especially if the people around him are excited too. He is a people-pleaser, and he loves making way too expensive gifts that he cant afford but somehow manages to get his hands on anyway. He LIVES for the excitement of watching someone else open the awesome gift he got for them!!!! Also, he'd love the music, and the decoration and the smell of aaaaall the good christmas food. This huge dork wouldnt be able to stop wagging and hitting everyone with his way too huge tail. Especially once he has his boyfriend Cooper and gets to have a whole family to celebrate with (instead of alone or with a single friend or two) Tucker cant be stopped. He'd be the party king of christmas, and he'd be the one to dress up as Santa for children.

Tell me about your newest OC!

This is not his final design probably, but let me introduce you to my newest OC Dezel. Dezel is the future boyfriend of Gary, the cutest and sluttiest kitten from my darling @Zelendur ♥ We were desperate to give Gary a good boyfriend, and we figured that him and Tucker would have been PERFECT for each other. But since Tucker is loyal to his darling Cooper (and we didnt wanna switch obviously, so TuckerXGary only exists in some AUs), we had to come up with someone else.

Dezel is a nerd friend of Chris and Gary ever since he was in the same class as Chris during highschool. As they were all outsiders they got along well and sometimes hung out. But usually Chris would hang out with Gary, and Dezel would hang out with his best friend Archie (also a character by Zelendur!). As Gary started to embrace his femboy self, Dezel was CONFUSED. Sexually confused. He started having the biggest crush on Gary but he was just too nerdy and stupid to do anything with it. At first he rather avoided Gary because of sexually confusion, and later on he SIMPED him. Hard. But he never got anyone to understand how he felt for Gary. Not even the attentive Chris realized that his attempts to hang out with Gary were (very shitty) attempts to have a date with him.

Long story short: As he was too socially awkward to make his crush known, he instead started to simp for Gary badly once Gary started his twitch-stream and especially his Onlyfans. Dezel pumped large amounts of money towards Gary, bought him expensive gifts and all that. And he'd sometimes buy private cam sessions from Gary (because he was way too horny for him for sure). And somewhen, through a stupid coincidence, Gary recognized some of his patterns from camming and realized who his secret admirerer was. From that moment on Gary initiated a friends+ relationship (which made Dezel extremely happy but also AWKWARD as he was just clumsy with that kind of thing). And after a longer time being friends+, Gary also started having feelings for Dezel as well.

Yepp, he was a bit creepy about stalking / simping for Gary. But he never meant any harm and was good friends with Gary since highschool. He was just too stupid to ask him on a date properly. ...Thats the story of Dezel y'all.

rough evolution of my dragon sona thru the years:

2011: pre-official-fursona drawing of a dragon where the gears are clearly turning(i think this is when i realized wings were hard).

2012: she's a furry fursona, and her name is Mads.

2013: drawing fur is hard! she has scales now, ZERO fur, and those horns are way more simplified. lots of misc "cool" design features added

2015: i get restless about her design having too many colors, and come up with variations that include this purple gold one.

inconsistently drawn for years, removing whiskers and horns sometimes because they are easier to leave out. i mess around a lot with the shoulders to make them resemble wings.

2019: time for a major redesign. reducing her colors to purple and gold, and then eventually adding the dreaded fur back in in manageable pieces. renamed to liolet (lilac+violet)

anyway i love her now, she has everything i need in a design and fewer tedious or awkward-to-draw features.

8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in

I used to have a closed species, they were these like, colourful beast type animals with a stout lion body and a wedge shaped head and two tails. ended up stopping making them because i didnt have the skills required to run a species [most of the successful closed species have ARPGs (Art Role Playing Games) attached, which was just way too much for me at the time and still something i wouldnt personally have the gumption to do even now tbh.] That and in general the adoptable market is EXTREMELY saturated and competitive and for the most part works on a Goods model rather than a Services model [basically you make the adopt first and THEN try to sell it, whereas my illustration Service is paid before the work gets done so its way less risky financially.]

Also my skillset in digital illustration is focused a lot more on drawing than it is on colour design, and when im doing colour stuff it has a lot more to do with making the picture work as a whole than coming up with good colour design. anyway teh species was based on this guy:

Got A LOT of asks about Wu and Garmadon and their shapeshifting in Ninjago Respun so heres a BIG answer instead

[spoilers for canon Ninjago lore, and minor spoilers for Respun lore since I’ll gradually explain this all in canon anyway. Only read this if you are DYING to know I guess?] [Whenever I say “we’ll talk about that later” that basically means I won’t talk about that further even if you ask, sorry D: Gotta wait for the comic to address that.] CONTEXT: The First Spinjitzu Master was SOOO strong. He was NOT supposed to exist, not just because of the eternal war between Oni and Dragon, but because sex between the two does NOT usually yield any Baby?! (Plus some other reasons ill talk about later). So like. Woaaah wtf? So.... that one baby? The First Spinjitzu Master? Yeah, he is a god! All the powers that dragons and oni have? He has them, and more.

SOME FIRST SPINJITZU MASTER DETAILS:

Dragons usually only have titles for names, so “First Spinjitzu Master” is literally his name.

He is immortal.

Oni are shapeshifters with no defined form. Dragons are shapeshifters too, but to a lesser extent (we’ll talk about that later). So the First Spinjitzu Master is a shapeshifter too. And so, humans are literally the fursona of the FSM.

He can create shit like its no big deal. He made the land, the plants, the animals, the people, the elements -- he made *almost* EVERYTHING in the realm of Ninjago (we’ll talk about that later).

Some aspects of Ninjago’s many cultures came from the First Spinjitzu Master -- from Oni and Dragon -- but other parts developed independently. In the Oni-Dragon language, “he” is a pronoun referring to Oni, and “she” is a pronoun referring to Dragons. There are other things too but that would take A LONG TIME to talk about... moving on...

HISTORY OF WU AND GARMADON’S SHAPESHIFTING AND ONI-DRAGON HERITAGE BIRTH | YEAR 0: So, the immortal Oni-Dragon named the First Spinjitzu Master, aka: God, decided to create people for his cool awesome realm. He wanted humans to be different from himself, but he also wanted a couple people who were just like him that could continue his legacy. He wanted people who could forever defend what he created. So he just mpregged himself and made two kids! Lying: He summoned them into existence, no pregnancy involved, sorry. Cries. The first he created was named Garmadon (named by himself), and the second he created was named Wu (named by his dad like a loser HAHA). Garmadon was born (created) in late winter, and Wu was born (created) in early summer. Wu and Garmadon are biologically identical to their father, half Oni, half Dragon, and immortal. But they are not as powerful as him. Beings equally strong as himself would be impossible for the FSM to create. His sons don’t have the same creation powers as him, but they have the same Oni and Dragon abilities. When Wu was born (created), Garmadon instantly chose to look almost identical to Wu. He previously had a different form that the First Spinjitzu Master designed for him, but fuck that (we call this becoming the realm of Ninjago’s first transgender person). At birth they looked and acted like they were around 3 years old. CHILDHOOD | YEARS 0-30: Wu and Garmadon’s physical forms are a conscious decision, but are also affected by their subconscious mental states. This caused them to age like MOSTLY like a normal child would... just a BIT slower. They also interacted mostly with people the same age as them, and chose to age like they did (we’ll talk more about this later). Garmadon got bit by the Great Devourer when he was 7. His eyes would look like he is really high sometimes (glow red) because of the curse, unrelated to shapeshifting. He also has a scar on his arm from the bite and the venom. It is usually very hard to scar an Oni/Dragon, but it was a powerful, long-term, magical wound. The bite caused him to become soooooooo angry and evil that he made up a Oni-persona because Onis look evil and cool. The two of them were always distracted by exploring the world, rather than questioning who they were. They just knew their father was from “outside the realm” and “half oni, half dragon.” They knew he and they could live forever, while others couldn’t, and knew they could shapeshift, while others couldn’t. But they never questioned him further, like.... they didn’t really care lol. Around 30 they looked/acted like they were around 15 years old (around 30 is when they met Aspheera btw). TEENAGE YEARS/YOUNG ADULTHOOD | YEARS 30-70: More adventuring and not caring about who they are. On one adventure, Wu got “crucified” by a village of people, Breaking-Wheel-Style on a Dharmachakra, while Garmadon watched and laughed. Eventually Wu and Garmadon met this woman on their adventures. [[Ninjago spoilers, cough cough --mystaké, --cough cough]]. She cryptically explained a few things: Dragon and Oni were at war in the past, Dragons create, Oni destroy, and currently the two species are dispersed across the realms. Wu and Garmadon’s father got mad at this lady for spilling all these beans, so she shut up about the dragon and oni shit, but still guided them in other ways for many many many many many many many many years to come. Around age 60, Wu and Garmadon looked about 30 years old. Their father passed on when they were 60, and the brothers began to diverge in the way they physically looked. Prior to this, they were near identical and relatively normal looking. My dearest apologies to those of you who love sexy 30 year old sensei Wu, buuuttttttttt, over the next decade, Wu became eldercore and wisdompilled as fuck. Meanwhile, Garmadon became a ripped 7′0 hottie (smh), who SLOWLY got older over centuries, paralleling Misako’s age. We’ll talk about Misako later. CENTURIES GO BY | YEARS 70-450: Btw, despite being really hard to scar, Wu got scars on his arms from another “crucifixion” at some point. (we’ll talk more about this later). .......More stuff happens.... not related to onis or dragons shapeshifting...... At age 450: -- oh crap GARMADON YOURE EVIL AF *banishes him*. We’ll obviously talk a LOT more about the banishment event later, ofc. Garmadon gets #pissed and so #fuck #anger #kill that he turns into his four-armed oni-persona. Wu and Garmadon know dragons. Wu hid the four golden weapons so Garmadon could never get them, and had dragons guard them. He is actually pretty tight with these dragons. They’re his friends. They were friends with Garmadon too. In the “Pilot”, “Weapons of Destiny”, Wu could’ve stopped these dragons from fighting the Ninja, but he wanted to test his students lmao. As for Oni, Wu and Garmadon (believe they) have never met a full-Oni. UP TO THE CURRENT DAY | YEAR 610. Most of Ninjago’s people know nothing about Oni and Dragons. Oni and Dragons are just mythological, often dismissed as fake. They don’t know Wu, Garmadon, and the First Spinjitzu Master are related to Oni and Dragon at all. Their origin doesn’t need explanation to most citizens. People just think, “Oh, The FSM, Master Wu, and Lord Garmadon? You mean God, Jesus, and Evil Jesus?” (Of course, the “Jesus” part is COMPLETELY non-diegetic, and they don’t actually call them that. They don’t know wtf Jesus is). I could go off about religion in Ninjago, but don’t get me started lol XD So, in conclusion, we got two immortal half-dragon-half-oni idiots that are worshipped by the average citizen. Wu is purposefully eldercore, and Garmadon is purposefully a ripped 7′0 oni-persona hottie. Post that explains rules of oni-dragon shapeshifting. That’s the lore at the moment. Any thoughts?
