Bradford Bingo
Pairing: Tim Bradford x fem!cop!reader
Summary: Lucy makes Bradford Bingo for the station. You try to keep it from Tim, but you win in front of him. 1.0k+ words of fluff
Tumblr media
Lucy slips a paper into your hand without comment, then walks away and does the same to Nyla. Nyla raises her hands in question and turns to you. You shrug and look down at the paper. It’s a bingo card, but not any bingo card; it’s Bradford Bingo. Your card has “calls someone boot,” “yells at another cop (besides you),” “gives the disappointed look,” and more.
There has to be something behind Lucy roping everyone in the station into a silent game of Bradford Bingo. You flip the card and see Lucy’s handwritten winner gets a prize ;) note.
“You ready?” Tim asks as he approaches you.
You hold the bingo card behind your leg and nod. Without knowing what the prize is – even if there was no prize – you want to win Bradford Bingo. There’s no doubt that he isn’t aware of the game, so you keep the card hidden from him as you sit in the passenger seat of his shop.
“Did Wade tell you why I’m riding with you?” you inquire as he pulls out of the garage.
“Yep,” he answers.
You press your lips together and mark “doesn’t offer additional information” off your card.
“What are you doing?” he asks.
“Making a note.”
You interact with other officers, listen to radio calls, and witness people marking blocks off their bingo cards throughout the next hour. Tim has clearly noticed the unusual attention and people marking cards. He doesn’t care enough or isn’t bothered enough to ask for more information.
“Ask your TO, boot,” Tim snaps as you leave a scene.
You mark the square and chew your bottom lip in thought. With only one square left in your diagonal line, you have a real shot at winning. Tim just needs to yell at an officer who isn’t you.
“7-Adam-19, requesting backup for signs of violence on scene,” Aaron radios.
“7-Adam-100, responding,” Tim responds before steering into a left turn.
“I love that you get to tell me what to do again,” you murmur as Tim parks outside the scene.
Tim turns in his seat and glares at you for a moment, then shakes his head and opens his door. That’s the disappointed look, but it’s still not the bingo you need. You mark it regardless and follow him to the front yard.
“You thought it was okay?” Tim demands, his voice rising. “You do not think on this job, you do!”
“I’m sorry, Sergeant Bradford,” the officer replies.
“Oh!” Tim's jaw tightens before he yells, “That makes it all better!”
You see Lucy approaching with Nolan, and don’t hesitate to yell, “Bingo!”
“What? Already?” Lucy asks, rushing to take your card. “It’s been two hours!”
You nod excitedly, then remember Tim is standing beside you. He simply looks at you, watching as Lucy congratulates you. The call takes precedence, so everyone shifts their focus from the game to the case.
When you get back in the shop, Tim doesn’t move.
“It was Lucy’s idea,” you begin, looking at your hands. “It was just fun, you know, nothing against you.”
Tim extends his hand toward you, palm up, and you place the card in it. He reads the activities you’ve marked off before giving it back.
“Why’d you play?” he asks.
“I… I knew I could win,” you admit.
“You think I’m that bad to ride with?” he challenges.
“Uh- no- no, sir, just…”
Tim fails to hold his laughter in when you call him sir and snorts before covering it with a cough. He moves his hand to cover his smile, and you look at him in shock.
“Why would you do that?” you exclaim.
“You could get another bingo with it.”
You roll your eyes and complain, “I don’t even know what the prize is.”
“Care to make a deal?”
You narrow your eyes but shake Tim’s hand anyway.
“If someone else gets a bingo, I’ll give you a prize in addition to Lucy’s.”
“That’s terrifying, Tim.”
 “Deal’s a deal.”
Tumblr media
“Alright!” Lucy calls in the bullpen. “We had two bingos in today’s game! First prize is a gift card for free dinner!”
“How long have you known?” Tim asks Wade, watching the awards ceremony from inside his office.
“Who do you think offered the gift card?”
“No ulterior motive?”
“You’ll never know, Bradford.”
Tumblr media
Tim raises his brows as you approach your car. You offer the gift card to him, but he knocks your hand away and opens your car door for you.
“My place,” he tells you before closing the door.
You prepare a dozen different apologies as you stand in his living room, waiting for him to tell you what’s going on.
“Tim-“
He raises his hand to stop you, and asks, “Did you know you got the only card without a free space in the middle?”
“I was riding with you, it probably made it fair.”
“Grey and Lucy worked together.”
“To make the game?”
“To show you that you…” Tim pauses to find the right word. “Tolerate me.”
“I-“
“We’re going to keep going in circles.”
You nod and admit, “It’s what we do.”
Tim pulls a bingo bard from his pocket and says, “This is the one Lucy was going to give you, but apparently she chickened out.”
The card has a red square in the middle, but instead of being a free space it says, Admit it already.
“Tim, I- I told Lucy about my feelings, but I didn't think-"
Tim cuts you off, his hands on either side of your face as he pulls you against him. You silence and look up at Tim as your hands meet his waist.
“Do you tolerate me?” he asks.
“You know I do more than that.”
“Enough for a lifetime of Bradford Bingo?”
You smile, wrap your arms around him, and kiss Tim. His fingers move to the back of your neck, tugging you closer as you melt into one another. Your legs hit the couch as you step back, and Tim spins so he falls back, and you barely manage to catch yourself above him.
“I’m really glad I won,” you pant, holding yourself up on the back of the couch with one hand.
“Maybe Lucy should make another game, one I could win.”
“I don’t have Bradford stereotypes.”
“Not yet.”
You don’t argue but smile before you shift your weight, wrapping your arms around Tim’s shoulders as you lower to meet him.

Mockingjay - Part 10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello :)
Once again sorry for the delay, but here is the next chapter for Mockingjay!
Please enjoy ♥
TW : Death or mention of death, blood, injury, suggestive, fight
Chapter before
Tumblr media
After their mutual declaration and several (a lot of) kisses exchanged, Lucy finally falls asleep, exhausted by her fight and her injuries. Ona didn’t ask Lucy what happened exactly during the fight, she keeps her questions for later.
Ona was awake all night, looking at Lucy. Just in case she wakes up with pain or something bad happens. But Lucy’s sleep seems peaceful, she only winces from time to time, while changing position. We must say that maybe the ground of a cave isn’t the most comfortable thing in the world.
Being in that position is strange for Ona, she’s not used to being the strong one. It’s usually Lucy who took care of her during their moments together, not the other way. She likes the idea of Lucy being at ease enough with her for it, but of course Ona hates the fact that Lucy is hurt.
They never heard the cannon, so Ona assumed that Tony must be alive somewhere. He doesn’t seem to have any allies, unless they’re all dead already. But the weapon he had was probably from a sponsor. Ona doesn’t know if she will receive more things after the attack she did against her compatriot.
But she stands her ground. Between Lucy and Tony, there she has not a single hesitation.
While Lucy sleeps, Ona lights the fire again and puts some wet tissues on Lucy’s forehead to ease her fever. It seems to work; Lucy’s forehead seems less hot with time.
Ona makes herself more arrows too, she used almost all of them during their fight with Tony. She wonders briefly where the man is, before deciding that she doesn’t care. He might be Joan’s friend; she still has to fight for herself. And the girl she’s in love with.
Talking about Lucy, the girls finally stir for good, but groan in pain while turning on her back. Her face is clenched and Ona hurries to come closer to her.
“Where are you hurt?” she asks softly, removing some hair from her face.
“My head”
“Your head? You didn’t say anything about your head yesterday!”
Ona tries to make Lucy move a little to see which part of her head is hurting. The latter tries to fight against Ona at first, but it was before seeing how determined Ona was. Lucy sighs softly, finally turning on her side.
“Lucy what the fuck”
Lucy doesn’t answer anything and it’s maybe better like this. Ona is mixed between worry and anger against Lucy. There is a wound here too, one that Ona didn’t clean yesterday because Lucy didn’t say anything.
“You couldn’t have done anything anyway” Lucy finally mumbles.
“I still could have cleaned it” Ona answer, her gaze burning.
Lucy chooses widely not to answer anything and crosses her arms when Ona starts to look at the injury. It seems less important than the one on her stomach, but still less superficial than the ones she has on her arms.
Ona cleans Lucy’s head, wondering how she missed the dry blood in Lucy’s hair, before making the girl roll on her back to clean the injury on her stomach.
“How did he manage to attack you by the way?”
Lucy raises her eyes on Ona’s face. The brunette isn’t looking at her, concentrating on her work in Lucy’s body. Lucy sighs softly before answering.
“He took me by surprise. I was looking for food when he jumped on me from behind. He hit me with his weapon. I didn’t hear him coming. He smashed me on my head and from then it was hard to fight back.”
Ona nods softly, wondering if the noises she heard while she was alone in the forest was actually Tony. She hasn’t mentioned it to Lucy until now.
“I think I heard footsteps when I was waiting for you. At that point I was thinking it was you, but when I turned around there was no one. I wonder if it was him.”
“Maybe” Lucy answers after several seconds of thinking. “If it’s him, it means that he chose not to kill you.”
“Yeah…” Ona says slowly. “Or that I could have save you earlier”
Ona was finished with Lucy’s tape since several minutes, so Lucy takes her by her arm to take her closer.
“Don’t reflect like this. You saved me. If you came earlier, maybe you wouldn’t have been able to shoot him like you did. Great aim, by the way.”
Ona rolls her eyes and smiles, snuggling against Lucy as much as she can while being careful not to hurt her more. She smiles when she feels Lucy sighing from well-being, softly kissing her jaw.
“All of those trainings’ session are finally paying off. Looks like training his force wasn’t as useful as he thought.”
“Looks like listening to your mentor was a great idea” Lucy teases.
“It was. It’s because of her advice that I’m still alive”
“I’m glad Alexia Putellas is a genius then.”
Ona hums, stroking Lucy’s neck with her nose. She doesn’t know how much time they will have for themselves, she’s decided to enjoy it as much as she can. She loves Lucy’s scent and how hot and soft her skin is here.
“You know that he’s in love with you right? Tony?”
“I don’t care” Ona answers, kissing Lucy’s neck between her two sentences. “I’m in love with someone else.”
Lucy smiles at this, grabbing softly Ona’s chin between one of her hands.
“Look at you, you little flirt” she says with a smile, before taking Ona’s face against her to kiss her.
Ona smiles against Lucy’s lips, deepening the kiss quickly. Lucy lets her access to her mouth and Ona kind of forgets where they are. All she can think of is Lucy, Lucy’s hand, Lucy’s skin against her, Lucy’s touch. She still remembers not to hurt her, but when Lucy gently tilts them so that Ona is on her back, Ona can’t help but break the kiss.
“Your stomach…” Ona begins.
But Lucy smiles again, putting a finger on her lips.
“I’m fine” she whispers.
She looks in Ona’s eyes again before leaning in for another kiss. After two seconds of hesitation, Ona kisses her back, passing her arms around her neck. Ona is pretty sure that she could kiss Lucy all day long without being used to it. Or tired.
She shivers when Lucy’s fingers slide under the tissues of her clothes, stroking her skin with her fingertips. The sensations are even better than what she remembered or imagined, but when Lucy starts to suck her neck, she feels heat waves in her body and especially between her legs. Under the pleasure, Ona’s fingers (who were under Lucy’s clothes too) sink into the skin of Lucy’s back.
Lucy is very respectful about what Ona told her while still in the Capitol. Ona is sure that Lucy remembers that she never has been intimate with someone else like this. When Lucy is satisfied with her work on Ona’s neck, she kisses the skin lovingly here.
But Lucy seems to come back to reality for real when Ona tries to remove Lucy’s shirt.
“Ona, we don’t have to – “
“No. I want it”
Lucy hesitates for several seconds, looking deep in Ona’s eyes. But Ona only smiles at her, letting her hands run on her back and on her hips.
“I’m sure” she adds, seeing hesitation in Lucy’s eyes.
“Just… Tell me when you want to stop, please”
“I will.”
Ona wanted to answer that she won’t have to say it, because she was certain of what she wants. But she doesn’t have time, Lucy leaning another time for another kiss. Ona doesn’t wait any second to kiss Lucy back. She wants it, she’s sure about it. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they might be dead in several hours, but there isn’t another person in the world she would do it with.
Ona’s clothes are suddenly too much on her skin, but Lucy’s hands manage to smooth her skin with their strokes.
There is no rush between them; they both take their time to discover each other and to remember each other at their fingertips.
And some time later, Ona is pretty sure that she never felt so blissful than now. When she looks up at Lucy who is holding her close against her body, she thinks that Lucy feels the same way.
Lucy feels Ona’s gaze on her because she looks at Ona back, offering her one of her perfect smiles.
Tumblr media
“How are you?”
“Pretty great” Lucy smirks at Ona over the fire.
“I was talking about your head” Ona chuckles.
She’s still a little mad at Lucy for having kept that injury away from her. But Lucy shrugs, still adding another branch of wood into the fire. The night is here now, and they had to leave the cave for several hours during the day. It has been their refuge and Lucy is a little scared that the leaders of the Games will try to make them get out of it.
“Can I see it?”
“Will you take no as an answer?” Lucy arches an eyebrow.
“No” Ona smirks.
Lucy rolls her eyes but turns around to let Ona have a look. The younger girl doesn’t wait a second and kneels behind Lucy, gently looking at Lucy’s wound. She hums when she sees it. It doesn’t look very good, but it seems to heal as best as possible.
“It looks okay” Ona whispers. “Are you still in pain? Honestly.”
“It’s okay. Pounding sometimes but I will survive.”
Ona bites her bottom lip, preferring not to remember that they are in a Game fighting for their life. She stays silent and Lucy doesn’t seem to catch what she is thinking about. She starts to talk anyway, taking Ona’s mind away from there.
“We need a plan now. To know how to fight against the others.”
“What do you have in mind?” Ona asks, going to sit in front of the other girl.
“First, we have Camden and Kayla. Camden is hardly injured, but Kayla doesn’t have any injury as long as I’m aware. It would be a hard fight if we were crossing their path. The best thing would be to have them separated. They were near the starting point until now, but they might have changed now.”
Ona nods. It would make sense; Lucy is now with her, and she knows where they were staying. Plus, one of them is hurt and they would probably want to hide him as long as possible.
“Then we have Tony. You hurt him pretty badly.”
Ona nods once again. She doesn’t know if it’s pretty bad, but he wasn’t able to stand up for several minutes at least. It’s still something.
“How would you feel about fighting against him again?” Lucy asks. “I know he’s a friend of your brother but…”
“I’ll do it as many times as I need if it means you will be safe” Ona doesn’t hesitate to answer.
There is a moment of silence, during which they share a look. Ona is determined and very certain of what she just said. She would give her life for Lucy, so she doesn’t mind a single second fighting against her district’s partner.
Lucy, on the other hand, gives the impression to Ona that she’s looking for something special in her eyes. But Ona let her look, not having anything to hide from her. After a moment, Lucy finally talks again.
“And then the two girls. We don’t know if they are together, but we can guess they are.”
“Haven’t you seen them at one point?”
Lucy shakes her head to answer no.
“They might be hidden somewhere. They haven’t killed anyone for now.”
“Could they be in the desert? That’s what we wanted to do with Teagan, we were almost sure that no one will come for us there”
“Maybe…” Lucy answers slowly, looking by the entrance of the cave. “I know there is an oasis somewhere, if they found it it’s probably the safest place in the arena.”
“How do you know that?” Ona frowns.
“I went to it at the beginning”
Lucy shrugs and Ona frowns. Lucy asked her a lot of questions about her adventure until they met again, but Ona sometimes feels like she doesn’t want to talk about hers. Which is a little strange in Ona’s eyes.
Ona stands, pretending to be looking for something in their bags. She doesn’t like that feeling in the bottom of her stomach. And it has nothing to do with the kick she received during her fight.
“You never told me”
Lucy shrugs one more time before answering, still sitting on the ground.
“I went with Declan. We just wanted to see what was there.”
Ona hums only, her back turned to Lucy. The brunette catches easily that something is disturbing Ona, only by the other girl’s behavior. Ona usually never hides her eyes to her, or even her face.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Lucy asks.
“Nothing.”
But Lucy knows better. Rather than letting it go and talking about something else, she gets up to press her front against Ona’s back, passing her arms around Ona’s waist. Her chin is on Ona’s shoulder when she talks again.
“Ona, what’s wrong?”
Ona sighs softly. She knows she’s probably stupid about her reaction and she’s a little bit ashamed, to be honest. But Lucy is waiting patiently for her answer, and she finally opens her mouth again.
“It’s just… Sometimes I feel like you are hiding something from me. I don’t like it.”
She knows she’s right when Lucy bites her bottom lip before answering. Ona turns her head as good as she can given their position, looking for Lucy’s green eyes. When Lucy stays silent, Ona talks again, whispering this time.
“What happened?”
Lucy sighs at her turn, letting Ona go. The younger girl doesn’t like the way her body suddenly seems very cold without Lucy’s embrace. She squeezes her arms around her body, looking at Lucy.
“It’s just that I have to do some things. And I’m scared that if you know them it will change how you see me.”
Ona tilts her head, searching for Lucy’s eyes. Lucy seems so tense that it scared her. Suddenly she’s not a tribute at the Hunger Games, she’s just a girl waiting for the love of her life to admit what fault she did when they weren’t together.
“Like I told you, I had to do things and play a role at the beginning. I needed people to think that I just wanted to win and that we weren’t even friends you and me”
Ona nods, waiting more or less patiently about the end of Lucy’s confession.
“To show people that I was really into it, I had to kill. A lot of people. In fact, after killing Seth, I’m the one with the higher number of murders.”
“Oh…” Ona breaths.
She wasn’t expecting this to be honest. She doesn’t know what she was expecting, to be honest. But Lucy is still looking at her feet, not able to look up at Ona. So, the younger girl approaches her, kneeling a little bit to have their eyes at the same level.
“Lucy, it’s okay. You did it for us. You didn’t have the choice”
“I didn’t” she repeats. “If I had… I just needed to be with you again.”
“We are now”
“Yeah”
Ona smiles softly at Lucy, who smiles almost shyly back. She doesn’t like to be seen as weak or something, but the way Ona cups her face to kiss her makes her feel lighter than ever. She still doesn’t understand what she did to find a girl as sweet and kind as Ona.
Tumblr media
The morning after, they decided to sort out their things to know what to take with them in their backpack and what to leave in the cave. They let some food they know would be damaged in their bag during the day, for example. Ona is never leaving her hoodie under her jacket, loving the soft feeling against her skin.
They take their weapons of course, the medical kits and the most important things to survive.
“Okay, let’s go” Lucy says, looking at the fire behind them.
Ona is looking at the cave with a little pout. She feels like they won’t come back, and it makes her a little sad. It’s once again a memory of her history with Lucy where she probably won’t be able to come again.
Easily understanding what Ona is feeling, Lucy smiles softly and passes her arm around Ona’s shoulders.
“Come on, Love. It will be okay”
She kisses Ona temple before taking her to go down the mountain again. Ona let her do, blushing softly at Lucy’s surname. It’s the first time she calls her something like that. Of course, she loves it.
They decided to go to the desert, Ona hoping not to cross someone else’s path during this. Or at least someone they can kill easily. They walk silently, just in case. Ona asked Lucy if she saw the wolves too, but the older woman answered negatively. But it seems to her that one of the tributes died because of the wolves. The idea made Ona shivers.
Lucy is walking first; Ona really closes behind her. She has to fight against Lucy to prevent her not from carrying all the heavy things. Ona is really scared that Lucy’s stomach will start bleeding again. She changed Lucy’s bandage before leaving, putting the old one in the fire.
The walk is pretty long, it seems that there is only one bridge to cross the breach. And that it is far away from where they are.
“It’s weird that we haven’t crossed anyone’s path” Ona mumbles at some point.
“Yeah” Lucy answers. “I think they used the fog to make people come closer to each other, I wouldn’t be surprised if they do something similar soon.”
Ona hums. She doesn’t really like the idea. The last time she had time with Teagan to leave, but it wasn’t the case for Lilith. Her death might have been harsh If Ona remembered correctly the screams of pain that she lets go before dying.
When they finally reach the bridge, Ona takes a last look behind her before crossing it, still behind Lucy. As soon as they arrive on the other side, the heath strikes them hard.
“What the fuck” Ona says, instinctively tying her hair.
Lucy smiles when she hears and sees Ona. Then she looks around, trying to remember where she went with Tony.
“I’m pretty sure the Oasis isn’t that way” she says, pointing somewhere right in front of them. “That’s where we went with Declan. Maybe we should go there?”
Ona nods, not having anything to say. She never came here before. The heath and the sand everywhere are very impressive, to be honest. But if they find the oasis, they could have something very interesting to have.
Still walking, Ona looks at Lucy’s neck and the drop of sweat running slowly on her skin. The sun is still high in the sky, which is a good thing because it means they still have a lot of time before the night. But they are still very hot because of the sun too.
“Are you okay?” Ona asks Lucy for the thousand times since they left.
“I am” Lucy answers patiently. “What about you?”
“I’m fine.”
They walk for some time more, seeing nothing around them other than sand and blue sky, until…
“This is the end of the arena”
Ona raises her head to look where Lucy is pointing. She doesn’t see anything at first, until she finally sees something looking like mini light blue lightning running in front of her eyes.
“We turn around?” Ona proposes.
Lucy bites her lips, thinking for several seconds before answering.
“I don’t know. If we do that, we will lose time and maybe we won’t find the oasis. But at least we know where we are exactly.”
“We were coming from the east to west. We just had to look at the sun to know where to go back” Ona shrugs.
There is a moment of silence, Lucy looking at Ona blankly for some long seconds, before answering.
“You know how to find your way with the sky?”
Lucy’s amazement is easily audible in her voice when she asks that question. But Ona just shrugs before smirking.
“I thought you would be able to do it too, aren’t you the one coming from the best fisherman’s family of Panem?”
Lucy rolls her eyes and smiles.
“I have nothing from the Bronze. And we have a compass and that kind of thing.”
They are walking next to each other now, softly bumping into each other from time to time while talking. There is nothing around them and they would easily see if someone else was here.
But they have to admit at some point that finding the oasis is harder than they thought. The sun is now hiding behind the horizon, gradually plunging them into the night.
“Do you want to take the torch?” Lucy asks Ona.
“I don’t know. Is this not going to draw attention to us?”
Ona looks at Lucy for several seconds before answering, not wanting to scare the girl.
“Are there not scorpions that come out of the sand at night?”
Lucy froze and looks at Ona, her eyebrows softly frowned. It’s something they learned during the survival courses, but to be honest, Lucy completely forgot about it.
“You are right…” Lucy answers slowly, before opening her eyes wide. “Wait, what is on your arm?”
Frowning at turn, Ona looks at her arm. A scorpion. There is a scorpion on her arm.

Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?
Fandom: Blue Lock
Characters: Nagi x reader
Based on the song of Arctic monkeys🤭
Angst i guess?
------------‐---------------------------------------
The phone buzzed on your nightstand for the third time in a row. You stared at the screen, the light illuminating your dark room as Nagi’s name flashed across the display. A sigh escaped your lips. You didn’t even need to pick up to know where this was going.
You swiped to answer anyway.
“...Hey,” his voice came through, slightly slurred, dragging the word out like he had all the time in the world.
“Nagi,” you started, already weary. “What time is it?”
A faint chuckle. “Uh, I dunno. Late?”
“It's 2 a.m.,” you clarified, rubbing your temples.
“Yeah, so? You’re awake,” he said lazily, as if that was a perfectly valid excuse for waking you.
You heard the familiar noise of background chatter and the bass of some party music, muffled but ever-present. Nagi must’ve stepped out for some air—or, more likely, to make this call.
“What do you want?” you asked, trying to sound indifferent, though a twinge of irritation bled through.
“Just wanted to hear your voice.” His tone was nonchalant, but you knew better.
“Are you drunk?”
“Maybe,” he admitted with a low laugh. “Does it matter?”
Yes. It mattered a lot.
This wasn’t the first time this had happened. The calls always came late at night, right when you were starting to feel okay about the distance that had grown between you two. Nagi was someone you once thought you understood completely—a quiet, laid-back guy who didn’t seem to need much from the world. But lately, he’d become a ghost of himself during the day and a restless spirit at night, always reaching out to you when he wasn’t sober enough to hold back.
“I’m not doing this again, Nagi,” you said, pinching the bridge of your nose.
“Doing what?”
“This—whatever this is. You call me at ungodly hours, barely coherent, and expect me to just... what? Wait for you?”
He was silent for a beat, the sound of the distant party filling the gap.
“Dunno,” he said finally. “I just—everything’s loud here. You’re not.”
It wasn’t a compliment; it was an excuse.
“Do you even realize how unfair this is?” you continued, feeling a knot of frustration and sadness build in your chest. “You ignore me all day, but when you’re high, I’m suddenly worth your time?”
“I’m not ignoring you,” he mumbled, but the words were weak, lacking conviction.
“You could’ve fooled me,” you said, voice cracking slightly despite your efforts to stay calm.
There was another pause. You could hear him shifting, maybe leaning against a wall or the side of a car.
“...I’m sorry,” he said quietly, and for the first time, it sounded genuine.
But it wasn’t enough.
“Nagi, you can’t keep doing this. Calling me in the middle of the night doesn’t fix anything. It just hurts more.”
“I don’t know what else to do,” he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.
The vulnerability in his tone made your resolve falter. You hated how much you still cared, how much you wanted to believe there was something salvageable in whatever was left between you two.
“Why do you even call me?” you asked softly, more for yourself than for him.
“Because you’re the only one who gets me,” he said without hesitation. “Everyone else... it’s just noise.”
You closed your eyes, letting his words sink in. It wasn’t the first time he’d said something like this, but tonight, it hit differently. Maybe because you wanted to believe it was true.
“Then why don’t you talk to me during the day? When you’re sober?”
“I don’t know how,” he admitted. “I suck at... everything, really.”
A bitter laugh escaped you. “You don’t suck at soccer.”
“Yeah, well. That’s the only thing I’m good at.”
The conversation drifted into silence, heavy with unspoken emotions. Part of you wanted to hang up, to finally put an end to this exhausting cycle. But another part of you—the part that still cared too much—couldn’t bring yourself to let go.
“Nagi,” you said finally, voice softer now. “I can’t keep being your escape. I need more than this. We both do.”
He didn’t respond right away, and for a moment, you thought he might’ve hung up. But then he spoke, his voice so quiet you almost didn’t hear it.
“I don’t wanna lose you.”
The words hung in the air like a fragile promise, one that you weren’t sure he could keep.
“You already have,” you said, tears stinging your eyes as you ended the call.
The phone sat silent on your nightstand, no longer buzzing with calls or texts. You stared at it for a while, wondering if he’d try again. But deep down, you knew this was the end of the line—at least for now.
Nagi might’ve needed you, but you needed someone who could show up when it mattered most.
And tonight, you chose yourself.

his smile captured you. it was warm…familiar, and for whatever reason, looked like it was hiding something.
pt. 1
his eyes—the kind that seem to have seen all the world has to offer: the good, the bad, the ugly—hold yours for a moment longer than expected. it’s like you’ve momentarily caught a glimpse of something deeper, something that shouldn’t be there but is, anyway. eren shifts slightly, the smallest movement, just enough to let his otherwise perfect poker face falter.
damn, that’s a hell of a poker face.
“not much to say, really. i’m honestly pretty boring,” he mutters, almost dismissively, before continuing with a few generic answers to the questions you ask, as if he’s running through a script. as time passes, though, you notice he’s starting to loosen up, just a little—his words become less clipped, his tone more relaxed. but his guard? still firmly in place. always.
when his gaze shifts toward you, it lingers for a split second longer than necessary—just long enough for you to catch the subtle shift in his expression. his lips curl up at the corner, his eyes flicking down your body before returning to your face. it’s quick, almost imperceptible, but it makes your cheeks flush before you can stop it. you glance at your phone, pretending you didn’t notice, but in reality, you’re keenly aware of the notifications lighting up your screen—missed calls, messages from your friends checking in, wondering if you’re okay.
you snap your phone shut again, the cool glass meeting your palm with a soft thud. the time catches your eye, and you can’t help but frown. “it’s getting late, isn’t it? wouldn’t want the restaurant to kick us out.”
the words are meant to be light, casual, but you can’t stop the tiniest pang of disappointment from creeping into your voice. before you can disguise it, your lips curve downward into a reluctant pout.
eren catches it, and his eyes soften. “hey, don’t look like that, pretty girl. i had a good time too. if i didn’t have business to handle in the morning, i would’ve shown you an even better time...” he trails off, his cheeks flushing just a shade darker, and you realize—he’s drunk.
how cute.
you can’t help but laugh softly, rolling your eyes playfully at his tipsy rambling. “yeah, yeah. let’s get you home, princess.”
despite your protests, he insists on paying your bill and escorts you outside. you pull up your uber app, already halfway through ordering the ride when eren steps off to the side to take a call. as soon as his conversation wraps up, he’s back by your side, and you’re hit with the sudden realization of just how much you’ve had to drink. the cool night air feels like a relief against your flushed skin, and the silence between you two feels strangely comfortable.
you glance over at him, noticing the way the moonlight paints his features—sharp jawline, tousled hair, the way his eyes glint, like they’re holding something back, something you can’t quite place. you watch him for a second too long, and he catches your gaze, his lips curling into a playful smirk.
“don’t look too long, pretty,” he warns, his voice low and teasing. “you might fall in love.”
that smile—God, it could light up the night sky. you swallow hard, your heart giving an unexpected flutter, and before you know it, your hands are already reaching out to him, instinctively placing them on his chest. the air between you both seems to thicken as you lean in, drawn to him in a way you can’t explain.
it feels like an eternity of suspended longing before he finally meets you halfway. the space between your lips is almost unbearable, but when your noses brush just slightly, and then his lips meet yours, it’s like a gentle wave, soft and fleeting. it’s so tender, you almost think you imagined it.
but then, with his hands finding your hips, he pulls you in just a little closer. his kiss deepens, and the heat rises in your chest. still, there’s hesitation—he pulls back, just slightly, his eyes glinting with something unreadable.
“i think your ride is here, mama,” he mutters softly, a trace of regret in his voice.
you turn to look, your heart sinking a little at the sight of the waiting uber. "a-and you're sure you don't wanna come?" you try again, a quiet, uncertain edge in your voice. “it’s the least i could do since you helped me out earlier.”
he lets out a breath, his gaze flickering with internal conflict. for a moment, it looks like he might change his mind, but then he shakes his head slightly, his lips curving into a wry smile. “i don’t think i’d be able to hold myself back.”
the disappointment in your chest sharpens, but you nod, whispering a quiet "okay" as you step back toward the uber. he holds the door open for you, the gesture so simple, but somehow it feels like the end of something unspoken.
"thanks again," you murmur, one last time, before the door clicks shut behind you.
through the tinted glass, you catch eren's lips moving—probably saying something you can't quite catch. his words are muffled, but his gaze holds steady, like a silent goodbye that’s somehow heavier than it should be. the uber pulls away, and you can't help but wonder if that was the last time you'd see him... or if that was only the beginning of something you’re not sure you’re ready for.

You turn your eyes away and put all your focus on the nothing between your fingers as he slumps down beside you on the step and tosses his bow somewhere behind him. Daryl doesn’t say anything as he pulls one of Shelly’s cigarettes from his pocket and lights it quickly - taking a few deep drags before offering it to you.
You hesitate and he shrugs, taking it back with a grunt. You sit in awkward silence as he smokes his cigarette and you study your hands, both of your minds racing. After another few puffs he offers the cigarette to you again and you take it between your fingers, bringing it to your own lips quickly.
“Would you kiss me?” The question rushes from your lungs with the exhale of smoke and you watch Daryl’s back go stiff, turning his head to the side slowly as he glares at you. “What?”
“Maggie said you would, kiss me…, but I don’t think so.” You hand him back the cigarette and watch as he takes a deep pull of smoke into his lungs, holding it for a long time before finally blowing it out through his nose. “What the hell are ya even talking about?”
You study your hands again. “She asked me if I liked you.” He grunts low in his throat, handing over the cigarette obviously not caring either way. “…but I don’t think you like me.”
Daryl turns his head again and narrows his eyes further. “I’m here with ya ain’t I?” He growls snatching the smoke out of your hand and bringing it back to his mouth quickly. He finishes it in three long pulls and flicks it across the street with another grunt.
“You weren’t earlier. You left.” You hate the way your voice sounds, shaking with nervousness and weak. This place is going to make you weak. Daryl already has. He’s already got your guard down.
“Jus’ had to get outta of here for a little while.” He explains and you swear you hear a hint of desperation in his words. His eyes are searching yours carefully and they’re so blue and full of unsaid words.
“Why?”
“Yer askin’ a lot of questions tonight.”
“…and you’re not answering any of them.”
You swear if he narrows them anymore his eyes will close but somehow he manages to glare at you through slits.
“Why do ya even care about any of that shit anyway? Ain’t like we’re gonna ride off into the sunset together. Ain’t like any of us have a chance in hell at any kind of normal life. Maggie, Glenn - Rick. They’re all just chasin’ a dream.”
You feel your heart break at his words. Daryl will never give a shit about anything - not you, not even himself and it’s painfully obvious now.
“Okay.”
“Okay? What the hell does that mean?”
“I think you answered my question.” You assure him and push yourself up from the porch, jogging down the steps quickly. You can hear Daryl growling from the porch as you wrap your arms around yourself and turn towards the town center.
“Where the hell are ya goin’?” Daryl asks trying to lighten his tone but you don’t stop walking - leaving him glaring after you.

hi! i love ur analysis and i wanted to know ur thoughts about valerian being attracted to jude, despite the fact he calls her plain and dull. wouldn’t that technically be a lie? and how him and cardan both desired her and did a lot of the same things to her. i know he was more violent but do you think if jude hadn’t killed him they would have had potential?(im not condoning his actions or saying him and jude would be good together btw, im just genuinely curious😭)
Valerian x Jude? Why did valerian want Jude?/Valerian short analysis!
hii! Thank you so much for the ask! This ended up being really long but i wanted to answer it well bc valerian is such a strange character it’s easy to not understand his motivations and whatnot!
before i start i want to say that holly back herself in an interview thingy said that valerian is attracted to Jude the same way that misogynistic men are attracted to women.
so firstly, valerian is such a loser but anyway we must recall that he is VERY unseelie. he doesn’t care for the livelihood of humans or even the faeries around him. Even his “friends” whom he relishes in hurting. he would do the same to Jude in a relationship and he HAS.
why his attraction to Jude? he cannot lie obv but he says that she is plain looking and dull compared to the fae since that’s what he’s used to, but he’s still attracted to her.
he leers at taryns curves, so he’s sexually attracted to Jude and Taryn. He lusts for them, specifically Jude, but why?
i assume that he finds their human bodies attractive since they’re so different from faerie bodies. yk, breasts and wide hips and all.
edit: obv also because Jude is a total smokeshow 🫦👅 also her amber eyes 😍
Since he hates humans and views them as a different species and says that everything about them is disgusting and a lie, him finding himself attracted to her probably totally pissed him off.
but it’s Jude’s defensive personality that makes him REALLY want her.
Note: Taryn is pretty submissive and kneels over for valerian, cardan, nicasia, and Locke.
Valerian is a part of the gentry, he’s a spoiled brat. He gets what he wants and he does what he wants. He goes to the mortal world and controls/hurts/probably kills them and in elfhame he hurts people, and through cardans power as prince can he easily get away with it.
now Jude, does NOT let this slide. She does not allow him to get to her, even through the abuse she endured from him, she remains defiant and she strikes back at him.
note: Taryn craves their favor and wants to be one of them, while Jude wants to beat them. Taryn allows them to do with her as they please and thinks her and jude should just shut up and endure their abuse.
Let’s remember when valerian stole Jude’s pen, and madoc replaced it w a ruby studded one from his personal desk. Valerian raged and hit Jude.
Valerian seems to not be used to not only being defied, but being defied by a “species” that is disgusting and unworthy of life in his eyes.
obviously, Jude is also a part of the gentry, nonetheless the daughter of a member of the kings living council, madoc has a VERY high status in elfhame. he literally LIVES on the isles of the elfhame. He has a home there.
random lore add on: liriope (lockes mother) had a home on the isles and it is stated that she was one of the first of eldreds consorts, so i assume that madoc was one of the first of eldreds high ranks as well.
valerian on the other hand most likely isn’t from the high court itself but some neighboring court, just there to visit for school. obviously he’s noble because he attends palace school with the other favored children. but i don’t think his rank is higher madocs. Like at all
Anyway what I’m trying to say is that technically, Jude, as the generals daughter, has a higher rank than him.
And jude isn’t even a bastard. She’s a stolen child that valerian and others see as unworthy of being there.
now jude having such a powerful father is what makes the children of the gentry hesitate when wanting to inflict pain or humiliation on her. Only madocs power is keeping them from hurting her PUBLICLY.
now how does this play into why valerian is attracted to her?
because with humans, valerian gets what he wants. he glamours them and hurts them and makes them eat leaves and garbage.
but he cannot do this with Jude, which is why i think this makes him want her more. Ever heard of the saying “we all want what we cannot have?” valerian CANNOT have Jude. not just because she would never, but for every other reason(i get into this a few paragraphs down)
now pair this with the fact that CARDAN wants Jude, and i always thought that valerian noticed this, so valerian cannot have her even more so now that cardan wants her.
one of my fav moots lmk that Jude ONLY paid any attention to cardan. Cardan pissed her off the most. when Jude’s being abused by that whole group, she singles out cardan, and pretty much ignores valerian.
i imagine that valerian was so upset that she did not let him get to her, that he wanted more and more to attempt to have her. hence the violent attraction.
From his eyes, Locke and cardan want her, Locke has her, and cardan is a prince, and who doesn’t want to take from a prince? Especially a guy that LOVES hurting those around him, or anyone at all.
it’s in fae nature to compete for lovers so honestly- him knowing that Locke had her probably infuriated him, and knowing that cardan wanted her too probably made him want her more.
but what’s important to remember is that valerian had no love/didnt care for Jude. at all. unlike cardan, who lied to himself about caring for her, val did not care for her, she was just a thing to take and abuse and hurt.
because he could not break her emotionally and mentally, he wanted to even more.
now picture this: the first time he gets her alone and tries killing her (in the tower) he takes off her Rowan berries and glamours her. And he CANT. Jude cannot be glamoured. then she STABS him. i just KNOW he was absolutely crashing out.
to him, Jude becomes more and more unattainable, and this INFURIATES him. All he wants is to hurt her, that’s what he does, but he simply cannot get to her.
when he pushes her down, she gets back up again. every single time. (queen behavior)
he wanted her bc he’s a selfish, abusive, controlling asshat. she was a thing to take from cardan and Locke. he wanted to hurt her because he hated that he wanted her and couldn’t have her. he hated that he could not REALLY hurt her. even as he ACTIVELY hurt her, she would NOT let up.
i love Jude for this lol and the fact she doesn’t realize just how much she’s pissing him off is so funny. she’s too busy paying attention and hating CARDAN. (I would too babe)
anyway- bro resorted to outright hunting her down. i imagine he was so torn up that he couldn’t glamour her, he couldn’t use the ONE POWER that he had over her- and instead she STABBED HIM- that he got absolutely shitfaced and managed to climb up her window to off her.
add on(I’m sorry this is so messy): valerian says time and time again how better he is than her, how humans are worthless and useless and whatnot, but Jude just continues to prove that no matter what he says, she is not some weak human that he wants/expects her to be.
anyway, would him and Jude ever have worked? i understand WHY people ask this question, but it overall sorta upsets me anyway. (not hate toward anon at all i mean i hate seeing people ship them)
valerian is not some dark romance main lead. he DID NOT care for Jude’s well being. he wanted her dead and actively tried killing her many times.
Jude’s standards aren’t low enough to accept that sort of relationship, and Jude had nothing to gain from it seeing as she didn’t want to earn her place through marriage.
Does JUDE DUARTE, seem like the type to let such a pos in her life at all? no.
valerian was unintelligent, he was ignorant and simple minded about humans, he abused humans, he abused and tried killing Jude, hes unseelie and relishes pain and suffering above all. him and Jude would never have worked, and they never could’ve happened in the first place even if he lived.
he doesn’t even see her as his equal. she’s an entirely different species, she’s an animal to him.
and his death. He died cursing her. he died because of his hatred for her, and then he cursed her. not only did he try killing her many times, but he also tried to ruin her life completely.
meanwhile, as he was dying, Jude tried saving him, even after all those murder attempts. Jude is a good person, and he was not.
i feel like it’s an insult to even compare valerian and cardan, they’re literally complete opposites. and it’s awful to want him and Jude to work, because Jude isn’t submissive, she’s a survivor and she fights back. she never would’ve given him the light of fucking day lmao.
he didn’t deserve her, and I’m so glad he died at her hand. after he probably killed tons of humans for fun, he deserved it all. After he literally cursed her, and traumatized her, he deserved it.
Jude and cardan work so well because cardan had what valerian doesn’t. Empathy, and the capacity to actually love and understand. let’s all remember that cardan:
1. He cares for and protects Jude
2. He sees humans as equal to him/ he doesn’t see Jude as less than him, if anything he sees her as better than him throughout the whole series (which pisses him off since at first everyone around him tries making him think that humans are stupid and unworthy, until he grows away from their abuse and hate and loves her cunning and everything about her)
3. Cardan comes to understand and pity humans despite being groomed into thinking they’re unworthy and disgusting and despite the fact that he’s beaten by humans. he goes on to risking his own ass by freeing bakekins human slaves.
4.he is considerate, he sends her a dress even when she hates him so the humiliation from Locke and taryns betrayal is dulled.
5.his motivations where fueled by his desire, the same as valerian, except cardan never wanted her dead
6. There’s more but I’m lazy and i think you get the point lol. Valerian sucks
anyway sorry for ranting, I’ve seen too many valerian jude shippers, they literally make no sense whatsoever, jude and valerian have absolutely nothing in common, i feel like ppl only ship them bc they like dark romance? but that’s lame, and it doesn’t belong in ya!
I’m not one to hate on peoples ships like at all, but ppl that ship them must either HATE Jude, or completely disregard her entire character. she would NEVER and she doesn’t deserve to be shipped w that inbred!
anyway thank you anon for the ask! I’m sorry for how much of a hot mess this is, i kept going back and adding things lol, but feel so free to add on 🫶🫶🫶

June, 2014.
The night was thick with the scent of summer rain, though the downpour had passed hours ago. Roman sat in the driver’s seat of his old black pickup truck, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel. The faint hum of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven spilled from the speakers, and in the back seat, Dean sprawled out, cracking open his third beer of the night.
“Man, this song still hits,” Dean slurred, bobbing his head to the beat. “You can’t tell me it doesn’t.”
Roman shook his head, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. “You’re drunk, Dean. I don’t think you’re in any position to judge music right now.”
“Whatever, man.” Dean raised his can in mock defiance. “Seth, back me up here.”
Seth, riding shotgun, chuckled lightly but didn’t respond. His mind seemed elsewhere as he tapped at his phone, brow furrowed. Roman glanced at him, noting the tension radiating off him.
“You good?” Roman asked, his tone casual but concerned.
Seth hesitated, then shoved his phone into his pocket. “Yeah. Just… residency’s been kicking my ass. You know how it is.”
Roman didn’t press further, though he noticed Seth’s hands fidgeting with the zipper on his jacket. It wasn’t like Seth to be this on edge. He was the golden boy of their group, always level-headed and a step ahead of everyone else.
Dean let out a laugh from the back seat. “Residency? Pfft. Sounds like a fancy excuse to be a buzzkill.”
Before Seth could retort, flashing red and blue lights filled the cabin. The faint whoop of a police siren followed, and Roman’s stomach dropped.
“Shit,” Dean muttered, straightening up and stashing his beer can under the seat.
Roman sighed, easing the truck to the side of the road. “Y’all just… don’t say anything,” he said, his voice steady.
The officer approached, flashlight cutting through the darkness. Roman rolled down his window, keeping his hands visible on the steering wheel.
“Evenin’, officer,” he said calmly.
“Evening,” the officer replied, his voice firm. “License and registration.”
Roman handed over his ID, and the officer’s beam of light swept across the cabin, pausing briefly on Dean in the back seat. The smell of alcohol was faint but present.
“Been drinking tonight?” the officer asked.
“No, sir,” Roman answered. “Not me.”
The officer’s flashlight lingered on Seth, who shifted in his seat, then returned to Roman. “Step out of the vehicle.”
Roman obeyed, sighing and stepping out into the damp night air. The officer motioned him to the side as another patrol car pulled up. Dean and Seth were ordered out of the truck, and Roman’s unease deepened when one of the officers started searching the vehicle.
Moments later, the cop emerged holding a small plastic bag containing four small orange pills.
“Care to explain this?”

Azure sat cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by the melodies of Chaka Khan and boxes that seemed to multiply the more she unpacked. The room was slowly transforming into a semblance of home. With her tired arms resting on her knees, she stared at the box labeled ‘living room’, realizing she’d been zoning out for the last five minutes. A nagging energy had been lodged in the back of her mind all day—an energy that, she had to admit, felt a lot like the pull of Roman Reigns.
She and Roman had been texting throughout the week, usually about the football season or updates about work. It was casual—light banter, half-serious game predictions, and questions about how things at the hospital and fire station were going. Shaking her head at herself, she decided to grab her phone from the kitchen island, checking for messages and reminders of football games she’d half-promised her dad to watch. As if on cue, her screen lit up with a text from Roman.
Roman: We’re watching the game at Jimmy and Naomi’s place Sunday at 2. Could use someone to defend that sorry ass team of yours.
A soft laugh escaped her as she read his text. The cookout had been unexpected, bringing a warm, easy comfort between them.  A small smile played on her lips as she realized how quickly they’d slipped into a friendly rhythm, perhaps a bit too comfortable for her own good.
The thought of being around him again—and his family—felt exciting, though she tried to shake the feeling away. She typed out a quick reply.
Azure: I’ll be there. Someone has to bring sense to that family of yours. Except Audrey, of course.
She barely had time to put her phone back on the counter before it buzzed again. Roman was quick with his replies, and it was clear he enjoyed this back-and-forth as much as she did.
Roman: Ouch. Guess I walked into that one. You betting on the Lions?
Azure: Please, I’m not THAT hopeful. I just want them to play like they know what they’re doing.
Roman: Fair. If they don’t show up, maybe you can jump ship and root for my team?
Azure: Never. You’re stuck with that 49ers disaster on your own.
Roman: You got me. But I respect Lions fans. It hasn't been y'all's worst year, I'll admit that.
Azure grinned, pleased at his response. She leaned against the counter, the flutter in her chest catching her off guard every time her phone lit up with his name, and she found herself looking forward to their exchanges in a way she hadn’t felt in a long time.
Azure: What got you into football? Can’t say it’s not an obvious firefighter hobby.
She hit send and waited, her fingers tapping the side of her phone case. Roman always replied quickly, but this time, the seconds stretched into a minute, then two. She frowned at her phone, wondering if she’d somehow pushed too far.
Finally, the notification buzzed, and she felt a small flicker of relief.
Roman: It’s just something I grew up with.
That was it. No follow-up, no joke or teasing remark. Azure stared at the screen, her brows furrowing slightly. She hadn’t meant to strike a nerve, but his brevity felt like a subtle wall being put up. She knew she shouldn’t take it personally; after all, it wasn’t like Roman talked much anyway. Still, the abruptness of his answer lingered.
Roman: You watching the game tonight?
Her shoulders relaxed a little at his double text. He wasn’t entirely shutting her out, but the shift in tone was clear. He wanted the focus off himself.
Azure: Yep, told my dad I couldn’t miss the Steelers losing. You?
Roman: Audrey and I are watching it. Told her if the Browns win, she gets to stay up an extra hour on a school night.
Azure let out a small laugh, imagining Audrey excitedly cheering for the Browns just for the sake of a little more bedtime freedom.
Azure: Let me guess, you’re secretly rooting for Pittsburgh to keep her on schedule?
Roman: Nah, we pinky promised on it, so I’m stuck backing the Browns for the night.
Azure: A man of his word. I can respect that.
Her phone stayed silent after that, and she let it rest on the counter as she continued unpacking. But her thoughts lingered on Roman. She caught herself imagining Roman and Audrey on the couch, their laughter filling the room. Even with his guarded nature, it was clear how much Audrey meant to him.  She sighed, brushing off the thought, craving these conversations more than she wanted to admit.

Days at the station started early and ended late, each shift packed with an intensity that kept the squad on edge but also connected in a way that only first responders knew. Their evening drill had an added layer of rigor, with Roman calling for extra rounds to improve speed and efficiency in rescue maneuvers.
The guys fell into a steady rhythm as they practiced on the training dummies, the scent of sweat and metal mixing with the chilled evening air. Randy moved quickly, setting up the ladder with his usual precision. Drew climbed swiftly, while Damian had the patient loaded and secured within seconds.
“Alright y’all!” Roman barked. “Again, faster this time!”
They reset and moved through the drill once more. Roman watched as his squad started to strain, but he ignored it, focusing instead on Damian’s words of encouragement towards the rest of the group.  As they completed the final round, the team slapped each other’s backs, their laughter mixing with the adrenaline coursing through them. It was these moments—these bonding experiences in the quiet before the storm—that Roman cherished most about the job.
“Good work out there,” Roman said to the team, nodding approvingly. “Head back inside, the rest of the night should be smooth.”
“As if you didn’t just jinx it.” Drew laughed, catching his breath and placing his hands on his hips.
“Yeah, don’t know why you even said that, brother.” Randy added, shaking his head in mock disapproval.
Not even five minutes later, the alarm went off. They shared a knowing look—Randy was the first to roll his eyes, muttering, “Told you.”
The dispatcher’s voice cut through the static over the loudspeaker: “Engine  2, respond to 1702 South Fort Street. Elderly female, fall with suspected head trauma. Approach with caution.”
Roman’s heart sank a little as he grabbed his gear. Head injuries were never easy, especially with older patients. And for reasons he couldn’t quite name, his gut told him this call was going to be rough.
•────────────────
The neighborhood was quiet as they pulled up to the quaint one-story house. The siren’s wail ceased, leaving only the sound of leaves crunching underfoot as Roman led the team up the front steps. They were greeted by a nervous middle-aged woman, who introduced herself as the woman’s daughter.
“She was in the kitchen, and she must’ve tripped,” the daughter stammered, wringing her hands. “When I came to check on her, she was on the floor, and her head was bleeding. I-I think she might’ve hit the counter on her way down…”
Roman offered a reassuring nod. “We’ll take care of her. Could you give us a little space, please?”
The daughter moved aside, her hands trembling as she held them together. Roman’s team entered the small kitchen, where they found the elderly woman slumped against the cabinet, her skin pale and her breathing shallow.
“Ma’am?” Roman knelt beside her, his voice soft yet firm. “Can you hear me?”
The elderly woman’s eyes fluttered open, but they seemed distant, unfocused. Roman signaled to Drew to check her vitals while he carefully lifted her head to inspect the wound. A jagged cut ran along her scalp, and he could see the faint pulse of blood underneath. It wasn’t bleeding heavily, but it was enough to be concerning.
“Vitals are unstable,” Drew announced, looking up with a furrowed brow. “BP’s low, and her pulse is erratic.”
Roman nodded, his mind racing through the protocols. “We need to get her on the stretcher. Randy, Damian, help stabilize her.”
As they moved her, the woman let out a weak groan, her hand gripping Roman’s arm with surprising strength.
“It’s alright, ma’am. We’re gonna take you to the hospital, okay?” he reassured her.
But just as they lifted her, the woman’s face contorted, and suddenly, she began to vomit, her body convulsing with the effort. Roman barely had time to react, but he kept his hold, guiding her so she wouldn’t choke. He shared a grim look with Drew—this wasn’t good. Vomiting after a head injury meant there was a significant risk of intracranial pressure. They had to move fast.
“Emergency transport!” Roman barked, his tone sharper than usual. “Let’s go—now!”
•────────────────
The hospital was quieter than usual as the night deepened. Roman and his crew had just finished transferring an elderly woman to the ER, her frail hand gripping his as she clung to consciousness. The call had been a tense one, and it lingered with him as he stepped outside into the cool night air, letting out a heavy sigh. He rolled his shoulders, the fatigue weighing on him as he scanned the parking lot.
And then he saw her.
Azure stood just beyond the automatic doors, talking softly with another nurse. Her scrubs clung to her slender frame, the faint glow of the hospital lights framing her like a portrait. When her eyes caught his, something eased in him. She raised a hand in greeting, her smile small but sincere. With a gentle nudge from her colleague, she started toward him, her hands tucked into her scrub pockets.
“Hey,” she said softly when she reached him, her gaze steady and warm. “Rough night?”
Roman nodded, dragging a hand down his face. “Head injury. Calls like that are always tough, and with her age… I just hope she pulls through.”
Her expression softened, and she stepped closer. “She’s in the best hands. You did everything you could.”
Azure’s voice was soothing, a balm over his wired nerves, his chest feeling lighter in her presence. Before he even realized it, her hand rested lightly on his arm, gentle and grounding. The soft warmth of her touch seemed to reach past the fatigue and the stress, sparking something in him that he hadn’t expected to feel so keenly.
He opened his mouth to thank her, but the sound of approaching footsteps shattered the fragile moment.
“Well,  if it isn’t the hometown hero,” came a voice laced with sarcasm. Roman’s jaw tightened reflexively as he turned to face Seth, whose sardonic smirk was as unwelcome as the tension he carried with him.
“Seth,” Roman acknowledged curtly, his voice void of warmth. “Didn’t expect to see you tonight.”
Azure’s hand fell from his arm, and Roman found himself missing the contact, an unfamiliar ache settling in his chest. Her eyes flicked between the two men, her posture tensing as Seth’s eyes lingered on her for just a moment too long.
“Oh you know, just saving lives… just like old times.” Seth’s voice dripped with mockery. “Even though you were always good at making yourself look like the good guy.”
Roman narrowed his eyes, a pulse of anger rising at the barely-veiled insult. But Seth continued before he could respond, looking toward Azure with an exaggerated shrug.
“Just thought you’d want a heads up,” Seth added.  “He’s always had a knack for playing savior. But sometimes, you can’t save everyone. Right, Roman?”
The weight of Roman’s irritation pushed him to put Seth in his place. “You got somethin’ to say, huh?” Roman’s jaw clenched, his body instinctively tensing. He shifted to face Seth fully, his voice low but his temper ignited to life.
Seth shrugged, his sight shifted to Roman. “It doesn’t really change anything, does it? No matter how many people you help, nothing can erase what happened. Maybe that’s why you’re still trying.”
Roman stepped closer, his frame towering over Seth. “Walk away,” he threatened, his voice low and dangerous. Azure glanced between them, the hostility crackling in the air like a live wire.
“Oh, come on,” Seth ignored the warning in Roman’s voice. “Let’s not pretend we don’t have a lot to catch up on.” he stepped even closer, looking Roman  in the eyes . “You’re just mad that someone actually remembers what you were like back then.”
Roman knew exactly what he was getting at, and the implication felt like a sucker punch. His fists tightened at his sides, but he didn’t want Azure to see him like that—especially not with someone dredging up vague accusations about the past. He opened his mouth to respond, the sharp retort on his tongue, but Azure’s voice cut through, calm yet firm.
“Dr. Rollins, maybe this isn’t the time.” She stepped forward, glancing briefly at Roman as if to steady him, then met Seth’s gaze with surprising resolve. “Roman had a difficult call. It’s been a long night. Let’s leave it at that.”
But Seth wasn’t done. “You think you’re some kind of saint now, Roman? Playing the doting dad, charming everyone around you? We both know you’re just trying to outrun what you did.”
“Enough!” Roman barked, his voice echoing through the air. Heads turned, curious eyes watching the unfolding drama.
Azure stepped between them, her voice calm but firm. “Both of you need to stop. This isn’t helping anyone.”
Seth sneered, his eyes bouncing between the pair before landing on Roman. “Next time.”
As Seth disappeared into the parking lot, Roman exhaled sharply, running a hand over his face.
“Roman...” Azure began, but he shook his head.
“I’m sorry,” he said, his voice tight.
She frowned. “Are you okay?”
Roman hesitated, his gaze softening as he looked at her. “I’m fine,” he replied, though the weariness in his voice betrayed him. “I, uh… I’ll see you Sunday.” He walked  away from her before she could respond. The tension in his body began to dissipate, but the anger lingered, mingling with frustration and confusion. He knew exactly what Seth’s problem was, but they’d seen each other in passing more often than not over the past few years. So whatever reason Seth decided to revisit the past all of a sudden left him more aggravated than anything else.

The morning sun had barely started to pierce through the clouds when Azure clocked in at the hospital. She couldn’t shake the lingering tension from yesterday’s confrontation, the storm that flickered in Roman’s eyes—it had etched itself into her memory. She sighed, bouncing her leg as she sat at the nurse’s station. If only work could be the distraction she needed.
“Morning, girl,” came a cheerful voice. Bianca breezed into view, her bright smile a stark contrast to Azure’s somber mood. “You good? You’ve been staring at that computer for five minutes straight, and I bet you haven’t typed a thing,”
Azure blinked, caught off guard. “What?”
Before Bianca could respond, B-Fab sauntered up, her arms crossed and a knowing smirk on her face. “Honey, everybody saw that little showdown between Dr. Rollins and that firefighter of yours. He looked ready to throw down. What’s going on?”
“He’s not ‘my firefighter,’” Azure muttered, though her cheeks warmed at the insinuation. “And I’m not sure. They… have history, I guess.”
B-Fab smacked her teeth. “This hospital ain’t but so big. A fine ass firefighter EMT and the head doctor of our department going toe-to-toe? I woulda never seen that coming. That’s better than an episode of Grey’s-”
“Can we not blow this out of proportion?” Azure said quickly, lowering her voice. “It wasn’t that serious.”
Bianca arched an eyebrow. “Girl, please. The way Roman looked at Seth?”
Azure opened her mouth to respond, but the sound of the quick footsteps interrupted her. A nurse poked her head in. “Bianca, we need you in Room 312. Azure, Dr. Rollins wants to see you in his office.”
B-Fab gave Azure a pointed look. “You good?”
“I’m fine,” Azure replied, though her stomach twisted at the mention of Dr. Rollins. She wasn’t sure she was ready for whatever the conversation would bring.
•────────────────•
Azure knocked lightly on the office door, the sound of her knuckles against the wood barely audible over the hum of the hospital.
“Come in,” Seth’s voice called from inside, smooth and inviting.
She pushed the door open to find him sitting behind his desk, his signature smirk already in place. The way he leaned back in his chair, his hands folded behind his head, was far too relaxed for someone who’d nearly caused a scene outside the hospital the night before.
“Azure,” he greeted, his tone lighter than she expected.
“Dr. Rollins,” she replied cautiously, stepping inside and closing the door.
“Seth,” he corrected with a soft chuckle, motioning to the chair across from him. “Please, have a seat.”
She hesitated for a moment before taking a seat in front of the large hickory desk., folding her hands in her lap.
“I wanted to talk to you about last night,” he began, his expression softening. “I’m sorry you had to see that. Roman and I… we have a complicated history.”
Azure nodded slowly, unsure of how to respond. “It did seem… tense.”
“That’s putting it mildly,” Seth said with a dry laugh, running a hand over his beard. “But I promise, I’ll do my best to keep things professional going forward. This hospital doesn’t need drama, and neither do you.”
She relaxed slightly at his apology, though something about his demeanor felt off.
“You’ve been adjusting so well here,” Seth continued, his tone shifting to something more personal. “I’ve heard nothing but good things from Bianca and the rest of the staff. You’re a natural fit.”
Azure bit the inside of her cheek warm at the compliment. “Thank you. Everyone’s been really welcoming. It’s made the transition easier.”
Seth leaned forward slightly, his elbows resting on the desk. “I noticed Roman has taken a liking to you.”
“He’s been nice, but…” Azure frowned. “Why do you say it like that?”
Seth let out a soft sigh, as if weighing his words carefully. “Look, I don’t want to get in the way of your personal life, but Roman and I have known each other for a long time. He has a tendency to… get involved with people and leave things messier than he found them.”
Her stomach twisted at the insinuation, but she kept her expression neutral. “I haven’t known him that long, but he doesn’t seem like that kind of person.”
Seth’s eyes softened, his voice dropping to a more intimate tone. “Let’s just say I’ve seen firsthand how things can go south when you trust him too much.”
She didn’t reply, her mind racing. Seth’s words felt calculated, like he was planting seeds of doubt without offering any real proof.
Seth must have noticed her silence because he added, “I’m just looking out for you, Azure. You’re a great addition to this team, and I’d hate to see anything—or anyone—distract you from that.” His gaze lingered, making her shift uncomfortably in her seat.
“Well, thank you for the concern,” she said, standing abruptly. “But I can handle myself.”
“Of course you can. Just be careful. Not everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt.” Seth stood as well, his expression unreadable.
She nodded slowly, her mind a tangle of confusion and frustration as she left Seth’s office. By the time she returned to the nurse’s station, B-Fab was gone, and the unease in Azure’s chest had grown. Seth’s words replayed in her mind, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to his story—and to Roman’s—than he was letting on.
Tumblr media
The rest of the week flew by for Roman. His large frame settled back into the plush sectional of Jimmy and Naomi’s couch, savoring the scent of buffalo wings and nachos wafting in from the kitchen. Audrey was giggling on the floor with Jey’s daughter, Mila; their laughter a welcome reprieve from the heaviness of the past week. The Detroit Lions were locked in a heated battle against the Chicago Bears on the screen, and while the game should’ve held his attention, Roman found himself glancing toward Azure more often than not.
She sat in the accent chair, dressed casually in jeans and a blue Detroit sweatshirt, her focus seemingly fixed on the game. Still, Roman could sense her reserve. Her laugh didn’t come as easily, and her gaze flickered away whenever his met hers.
Audrey’s shriek of laughter snapped Roman back to the moment. “No fair, Mila! You cheated!” she teased, pointing an accusatory finger at her cousin.
“I did not!” Mila shot back, her grin wide enough to betray her innocence.
Roman chuckled under his breath, grateful for the joy that Audrey exuded. But even in this lively atmosphere, his mind replayed the argument at the hospital—Seth’s words at the hospital had cut deep, reopening wounds he thought had long healed. Yet what gnawed at him now wasn’t just Seth’s accusations—it was how Azure might perceive him. The thought of her believing the worst caused an unusual feeling in his stomach.
Bothering him more than it should have.
•────────────────
The first half of the game was intense. Roman and Jimmy loudly cheered on the Bears, much to Jey’s dismay. Audrey and Mila eventually joined in, jumping up and down to mimic the excitement. Azure even laughed at their antics a few times, though she quickly fell back into silence whenever Roman looked her way.
Halftime came, and the game commentators’ voices filled the living room. Roman took a deep breath, catching Azure’s gaze. “Hey, can I talk to you for a minute?”
She hesitated, her lips pressing into a thin line before she nodded. “Sure.”
He led her out to the back porch, the crisp November air cooling his skin. They stood in silence for a moment before Roman finally spoke. “I wanted to apologize for what happened at the hospital. With Seth.”
Azure crossed her arms, her eyes fixed on the horizon. “You don’t need to apologize for him.”
Roman shook his head. “No, I do. That argument… it wasn’t just about work. There’s a lot of history between Seth and me, and I’m sorry you got caught in the middle of it.”
Azure’s gaze softened slightly. “He called me into his office after that,” she said. “Tried to explain his side of things. Said you were… untrustworthy, messy.”
Roman’s jaw tightened. “And what did you say?”
“I didn’t believe him,” she said simply, her voice steady. “It didn’t add up, not with what I’ve seen of you.”
The weight on Roman’s chest lightened slightly. “Thank you for that,” he said, his voice quieter. A beat passed before he continued, leaning against the wall next to the back door. “Back in the day, Seth, me, and another friend were driving, cops pulled us over, and… I took the fall for something I shouldn’t have.”

June, 2014
“That’s not mine,” Roman said automatically, even though he knew whose it was. He turned to Seth, their eyes locking. The unspoken tension between them felt heavier than the humid night air. The officer shook his head before walking over to the second patrol car as another officer stepped out of the vehicle.
Seth broke first, stepping closer to Roman and lowering his voice. “Look, man, I can’t—this will ruin me,” he whispered, desperation in his tone. “Residency, my license, everything. You know what’s at stake.”
Roman’s stomach churned. “You brought that shit into my truck?” he hissed.
“I just needed it to take the edge off, alright?” Seth’s words tumbled out in a frantic whisper. “You—you’ve got connections. Your family knows the fire chief. This’ll get swept under the rug for you. For me? It’s game over.”
Roman stared at him, his mind racing. The weight of Seth’s plea hung between them.
Dean, now sobered by the situation, stepped forward. “Come on, Seth. You can’t ask him to do that. Take responsibility for your own—”
“Dean,” Seth snapped, his voice low and sharp. “This isn’t your life on the line. Stay out of it.”
Roman closed his eyes, breathing deeply. He hated the position Seth had put him in, hated the way the officer’s gaze bore into him, waiting for an explanation. But he thought about Seth’s future, the years of hard work that had led to this point. And he thought about his own family—their respectability in the community, their influence.
When Roman opened his eyes, his decision was made.
“It’s mine,” he said firmly, stepping forward and taking the bag from the officer’s hand.
“Roman—” Dean started, but Roman silenced him with a look.
Seth’s face was a mix of relief and guilt, but Roman couldn’t bring himself to meet his eyes.
The officer gave Roman a long, scrutinizing look before nodding toward his patrol car. “You’re coming with me.”
As the handcuffs clicked around his wrists, Roman caught Seth’s gaze one last time. “Don’t waste this,” he muttered under his breath before being led to the car.
•────────────────
“Why would you do that?” Azure’s brows knitted together.
Roman exhaled heavily, shifting his weight to the opposite leg. “Because I was protecting my friend. Turns out, I was just givin' Seth a free pass to screw me over... I didn’t serve time for it, but still, a lot changed after that.”
Azure’s lips parted as if to respond, but she paused, considering her words. “That explains a lot.” She spoke. “But I think it says more about you than him—you took the fall, even when it wasn’t yours to take. That’s not reckless. That’s selfless.”
Roman stared at her, letting her words sink in. He wanted to believe her, to see himself that way, but a familiar weight pressed against his chest. He looked out at the darkening sky, his voice quieter. “Maybe,” he said, his tone somber. “But sometimes, no matter how much you want to protect someone, it’s not enough. You can’t always be the hero people think you are.”
A sudden thud broke through the brief silence, followed by a small cry. Roman’s head snapped towards the back door, and the duo ran back into the living room where Audrey was cradling her arm, her face scrunched in pain.
Jimmy was already at her side, and Azure quickly made her way around the coffee table, speaking softly as she knelt beside her. “What happened, sweetie?”
“I hit the table,” Audrey whimpered, tears brimming in her eyes.
“Naomi, where are the Band-Aids?” Roman called, moving to join them, his heart twisting at the sight of his daughter’s distress.
“Here,” Naomi jogged into the living room, handing the small box to him.
Roman handed a single Band-Aid and alcohol pad to Azure, watching as she carefully applied it and chatted with Audrey to keep her calm.
“It’s just a little scrape,” Azure soothed. “You’re okay, I promise.”
Roman crouched beside them, watching how tender Azure was with his daughter. The way Audrey leaned into her, trusting her completely, filled him with an unexpected warmth.
“Thanks, Azure,” Roman said, his voice low. His hand moved instinctively, resting on her shoulder for a brief moment, the contact surprising him.
“You’re welcome,” a faint smile spread across Azure’s face. The rest of the game passed in a blur for Roman. His focus wasn’t on the field or the score but on the woman sitting across from him and the way she had quietly worked her way into his life. Their lives. As the final whistle blew, signaling a Lions win, Roman found himself looking forward to the next Sunday—and not just for the football.

Bakudeku has become so important to me. I love them so much. It’s getting embarrassingly ridiculous.
Anyways, I think I’m gonna start writing mini fics and posting them here.
—I’ll Be There—
Izuku felt the embers slip away, this feeling of emptiness settling within him in an unnerving chill. He sat up in bed, his heart feeling tight and his eyes burning. One For All was gone and he was quirkless again.
*RING RING*
His phone went off on his bedside table, and he was shocked out of his head. His eyes landed on the caller id, and he fumbled to answer it.
“Kacchan?” He whispered, not wanting to wake his mother. “What’s up? You’re not usually up this late.”
He heard a little shuffling before Katsuki’s voice filled his ear. “I don’t know… I felt like I needed to call you.”
Izuku laid back down, staring up at the ceiling and feeling distraught all over again. He did not regret his decision, but feeling his quirk dissipate had his insides churning. Now what was there for him?
“They’re gone.” He whispered.
Katsuki was silent for a while, knowing exactly what that meant and Izuku could not help the tears that slipped from his eyes. His dream was over.
He understood why Kacchan had cried in that hospital room better now. A part of him felt like it was broken, thinking about not being able to chase Katsuki the same way ever again.
“…Are you okay?” Katsuki asked quietly.
“Y-Yes…” The word may have fell from his lips but he was not sure it was true. He heard more shuffling on the other end, and then silence. “How did you know?” He asked, reaching up and wiping the tears off his face.
“I don’t know… I just did.” Katsuki answered, sounding unsure himself.
Izuku frowned, his expression crumbling as his lip wobbled. He could not help the sad sound that trembled from him, turning on his side to curl into himself.
Katsuki let out a heavy breath, wishing he could do something for Izuku. Itching to blurt out his plans just to give his friend hope.
“Kacchan?”
“Yeah, Izuku?”
Izuku sobbed quietly, pressing his face harder against the phone. “I’m sorry.”
Those words hurt Katsuki’s chest, and he felt like his own eyes were starting to burn. “Don’t say that… You don’t need to be sorry.” He muttered, hating that Izuku felt the need to apologize.
“Can I ask you for something?” Came Izuku’s trembling question.
“Yes.”
“Will you promise to not leave me behind?”
Katsuki scoffed, as if the question offended him. “Are you dumb? As if you could get rid of me.” He snapped, quickly realizing Izuku wanted a real answer after he was met with a lingering silence. “…I promise.” He whispered.
Izuku sighed, feeling small. “I feel so weird.”
Katsuki faltered, not knowing how Izuku could be feeling at all. “Do you…” He hesitated, suddenly nervous like it was not his place to offer anything. He shoved past the discomfort. “Do you want me to come over?”
It was like the question tended to the pain inside Izuku. To have the blonde next to him, telling him face to face that things would be okay, that he would not be left behind, Izuku could not resist.
“Please.”
“Okay. I’ll be over in a few.” Came Katsuki’s quick reply, and Izuku could hear as he got out of his bed. “Do you need anything?”
“Just you.” Izuku muttered, not caring how hot his face felt as the words left his lips.
Katsuki paused for only a moment, feeling as his ears grew hot at the implication. He shook his head, needing to focus and be there for Izuku. He grabbed his jacket and pulled his keys from his pocket.
“Then I’ll be there.”

Missing Ghost³
Tumblr media
Summary: After losing her memory in a storm, a young Marine remembers only the name “Mihawk” and sets out to find him, convinced he holds the key to her past. As she sharpens her skills and follows his trail across countless ports, Mihawk is always just out of reach. Finally, she arrives at a port where his ship waits, knowing her answers are close.
Note: I need to update my work / pinned thingy. But I am waaaaay to lazy to do so now. Maybe later. Anyways, here we go, the next chapter of this story! It's not easy at all to picture how Mihawk behaves, so pls bear with me. Again, I can't give any promise on when I'll update this again but if we hit 30 reactions, the next chapter should come soon!
Tumblr media
The port town was a labyrinth of noise and chaos, bustling with merchants, sailors, and the occasional mercenary weaving through the crowded streets. Every step I took felt heavy, my eyes darting over every face, every corner, searching. I had no plan, no strategy beyond following the tug in my chest that pulled me forward, a feeling that whispered he was close.
The whispers from the crowd had grown louder the further I moved into the town.
“Did you see him?”
“He cut them down like it was nothing—”
“Hawk Eyes Mihawk...he’s here.”
I swallowed hard, my pulse quickening as I pushed through the throng. The streets led me toward the edge of town, where the noise shifted from bustling trade to something sharper—shouts, cries, and the unmistakable clang of steel. My feet carried me closer before I even realized it, my heart pounding louder with each step.
And then I saw him.
Dracule Mihawk stood amidst the carnage, his black cloak flowing around him like the wings of a predator. His sword, massive and imposing, gleamed in the dim light as it cut through the last pirate standing, a clean, effortless motion. Blood spattered the ground around him, bodies crumpled at his feet, but his expression was calm, almost detached, as though the chaos around him was nothing more than a passing nuisance.
For a moment, I froze, unable to breathe. I knew him. Not just the name or the reputation, but something deeper, like a half-remembered melody finally coming into focus. His piercing golden eyes swept the crowd, sharp and calculating, and then they found me.
Our eyes locked.
My breath hitched. Something stirred within me—a pull so strong it felt like it might drag me forward against my will. My body moved before my mind could catch up, weaving through the bloodied scene as if the danger didn’t exist, as if the corpses littering the street were invisible.
He watched me, unmoving, his gaze unwavering as I drew closer. There was no fear in me, not even hesitation. The tug in my chest grew stronger with every step, guiding me toward him like a thread pulling me home.
The stench of blood thickened as I reached him, tilting my head back to meet his gaze. Up close, he was even more imposing than I remembered—or imagined. His face was sharp, chiseled, his eyes unreadable yet filled with a weight I couldn’t name.
For a moment, the world seemed to still.
“It’s a surprise you’re alive,” he said at last, his deep voice cutting through the silence like a blade. “For a stupid, clumsy Marine.”
His tone was cold, biting, but there was something beneath it—something I couldn’t name. Relief, maybe? I wouldn’t have noticed even if it had been more obvious; all I could feel was the strange pull toward him, as if I’d finally found the one solid thing in a world I didn’t remember.
My lips parted, but no words came. What could I say? That I’d been looking for him, chasing a shadow, convinced he held the key to a past I couldn’t recall? That the sound of his voice stirred something in me that felt almost like belonging?
Instead, I simply stared, the silence between us stretching as the blood of the slain pirates pooled at our feet.
Mihawk’s golden eyes lingered on me for a moment longer, unreadable, before he turned without a word, Yoru slung across his back like a silent guardian. His boots crunched against the bloodied ground as he began to walk away, as though the entire scene—the corpses, the chaos, and me—meant nothing to him.
I blinked, momentarily stunned, before my feet moved on instinct. “Wait!”
He didn’t stop, didn’t even glance back. Determined, I hurried after him, weaving through the crowd that had started to gather at a cautious distance. The people parted for him like waves around a ship, their hushed whispers trailing behind him.
“Stop walking away from me!” I demanded, raising my voice, though it wavered slightly under the weight of his presence. “You called me a Marine. What do you mean by that?”
No response. His pace was steady, unbothered, like I wasn’t even there.
“I know you,” I pressed, desperation seeping into my tone. “Don’t I? You wouldn’t have let me live otherwise… Right?”
Still nothing. His silence made my chest tighten, but I refused to back down. “Say something!”
Finally, he slowed, just enough for me to catch up to his side. I looked up at him, trying to read the sharp angles of his face, but his expression remained impassive.
“You know something about me,” I insisted, walking briskly to match his long strides. “You have to. Otherwise, why would you…?” I gestured vaguely behind us, to the battlefield he’d left in his wake.
He stopped abruptly, and I nearly stumbled to avoid bumping into him. His gaze swept over me, piercing and calculating, as though he were dissecting every word I’d said. I shifted under the intensity, suddenly aware of how much smaller I felt beside him.
“You don’t remember,” he said finally, his voice low but firm, as if stating a fact he had just confirmed.
I frowned. “Remember what?”
For the first time, something flickered in his eyes—something almost like recognition mixed with irritation. “Anything,” he said, more a statement than a question.
“I remember…” I hesitated, unsure how to explain the fractured pieces of my memory. “I remember waking up on a beach. No one knew who I was, not even me. But I…” My voice trailed off, searching his face for a reaction. “I knew your name. And now, seeing you, I know you. I don’t know why, but I do.”
Mihawk regarded me silently, his gaze as sharp as the blade on his back. For a moment, I thought he wouldn’t reply, but then he asked, “What else?”
“What else?” I echoed, confused.
“What else do you remember?”
I swallowed hard, the weight of his question pressing down on me. “Not much,” I admitted. “Just… flashes. A storm. The sea. And you. I’ve been searching for you ever since I remembered your name. It’s all I’ve had to go on.”
His expression didn’t change, but there was a subtle shift in his posture, a tension that hadn’t been there before. He was piecing something together; I could see it in the slight narrowing of his eyes, the faint tilt of his head.
“You really don’t remember anything,” he murmured, more to himself than to me.
I shook my head. “I don’t even know why I’m here. Why I’ve been chasing you for so long. But you know something, don’t you?”
Mihawk’s gaze held mine for a long moment, and for the first time, I thought I saw a flicker of something human beneath his icy exterior. A shadow of doubt, or maybe… curiosity?
Finally, he turned away, his voice calm but edged with finality. “If you’ve forgotten, it’s no longer my concern.”
“No!” I grabbed his arm without thinking, my grip firm despite the tremor in my hands. He looked down at me, one brow arching in faint surprise, but he didn’t pull away.
“I don’t care if it’s not your concern,” I said, forcing steel into my voice. “You’re the only one who knows anything about me. And I’m not letting you walk away until you tell me.”
His expression hardened, but he didn’t shake me off. Instead, he studied me again, his eyes sweeping over me as if searching for something hidden beneath the surface.
“Tell me what you remember of the storm,” he said, his voice quieter this time, almost contemplative.
I frowned, unsure why it mattered but willing to cling to anything that might give me answers. “There’s not much,” I said slowly. “The waves were huge. My ship—if it was even mine—was breaking apart. I remember clinging to something, and then… nothing. Just darkness. When I woke up, I was on a beach, and everything was gone. My past, my name, everything.”
Mihawk’s gaze grew distant, his jaw tightening as though he were wrestling with something unspoken. Then he let out a soft scoff, shaking his head.
“You were more trouble than you were worth back then,” he muttered, his tone almost bitter. But there was a faint edge of something else—something softer—buried beneath the words. “It seems that hasn’t changed.”
I frowned, unsure whether to be offended or relieved. “So you do know me.”
He didn’t answer, but the slight twitch at the corner of his mouth told me enough. He turned again, starting to walk away.
“Hey!” I called, jogging to catch up. “Where are you going now?”
He glanced at me over his shoulder, his expression unreadable. “If you’re so desperate for answers,” he said, his tone as sharp as Yoru’s edge, “you’ll have to keep up.”
And just like that, he was moving again, leaving me to scramble after him once more.
The silence between us stretched, heavy and suffocating as I trailed after Mihawk. My questions had grown quieter with each unanswered attempt, his cold indifference wearing down my resolve. His steps were steady, unyielding, as if no force in the world could sway him.
Eventually, my voice gave out entirely. I stopped asking. The only sound left was the crunch of boots against the dirt road and the faint hum of the town fading behind us.
Mihawk led us to a secluded spot near the cliffs, where the restless sea stretched endlessly before us. He moved with practiced ease, lowering himself to sit against the trunk of a lone tree. His massive blade, Yoru, rested beside him, its hilt gleaming faintly in the waning sunlight. Without a word, he tipped his hat forward to shield his face, his body language making it abundantly clear that he intended to rest—and that he had no intention of speaking further.
I frowned, standing a few paces away, unwilling to let him dismiss me so easily. “You can’t just ignore me,” I said, crossing my arms. “Not after all this.”
He didn’t even lift his head. “I can,” he said simply, his tone low and unbothered. “And I am.”
My fists clenched. “I’ve been chasing you for years! You clearly know something about me—why won’t you just tell me?”
He let out a quiet, exasperated sigh, tilting his hat back just enough to reveal one sharp, golden eye. “I don’t care about your search for answers,” he said, his voice cold and measured. “And you should consider yourself fortunate that I don’t find your presence intolerable. Yet.”
The word hung in the air, a warning, and I felt a chill crawl down my spine. For a moment, I thought about turning away, giving up. But something in me refused to let go, the pull toward him stronger than ever.
“Why don’t you mind my presence?” I asked softly, taking a step closer. “If you really didn’t care, you could have killed me back there. So why didn’t you?”
His gaze lingered on me, unreadable, before he tipped his hat back down. “You wouldn’t understand even if I told you,” he muttered.
I opened my mouth to argue, but then he spoke again, cutting me off.
“Your name is Y/N.”
I froze, the words hitting me like a jolt of lightning. “What…?”
“You asked for something,” he said, his tone growing sharper. “There it is. Y/N. It’s your name.”
My breath caught. Hearing it felt like a key turning in a long-locked door, a fragment of something lost slotting into place.
“That’s my name?” I whispered, the sound foreign yet familiar on my tongue.
“Yes,” Mihawk replied flatly, already tipping his hat lower again as if that settled the matter. “Now leave me to rest.”
I wanted to say more, to ask a thousand questions that burned on the tip of my tongue, but his tone brooked no argument. For now, I swallowed the flood of emotions welling up inside me and took a hesitant step back, clutching the name he had given me like a lifeline.
Y/N. My name was Y/N. And whatever lay ahead, I wouldn’t let him bury the answers again.

Slowly, her senses return to her. Life livens her eyes, feeling brightens the flats of her palms, and the voices of her companions gain better clarity. She catches their conversation at its tail-end, hearing of birds. She doesn't have much to add to that, and so Robin simply takes a deep breath, securing this new calmness with a physical action, then turns to the pink-haired girl.
"How are you feeling now?"
she thinks for a beat, then shrugs. “ okay, fine even. better, i think. ”
"Good, good…" Robin murmurs softly, "do you believe that all this is a dream, too?"
“ a really weird one, if it is, ” she laughs, “ but what else would it be? ”
The corners of her mouth twitch at the sound of laughter. "You're right. Such absurd things shouldn't happen anywhere else." Robin contends. But what should and should not be is never strictly imposed, isn't it? She frowns slightly at this thought, before turning to face the doorway that stands in front of them. "My companions and I will have to leave soon. I'm afraid we can't take you with us, even if we wanted to... but I hope my heart was able to help."
Speaking of which—she takes what cracked pieces remain of her 'Hope,' gathering them from the pink-haired girl and and wrapping her fingers around them. The lilac liquid feels cool to her touch. Then, with a nod towards Kaveh and Furina (she hesitates to acknowledge Khepri), she heads for the door.
like before, the door opens and the room is changed, the last girl gone.  this scene is a bedroom, simple and free of decoration, not a single thing of of place. perfectly tucked sheets on the bed, patternless, an empty white desk and a dresser with nothing atop it. a single window to betray a starless sky, and a girl just beneath it on the bench of a piano. her hands hover over the keys, trembling. she does not play, instead stares at blank sheet music before her as though waiting for notes to appear.  alor’s voice, of course, returns: “ they say music is a feeling, ” it sings, then laughs, “ but what is a feeling to a girl afraid to feel at all? ”
"It would be something unattainable…" Robin says beneath her breath, a useless answer to a rhetorical question, but one she felt she had to give anyway. Then, looks to find her companions, searching for Furina in specific. Three dreams, three girls, and three hearts. Followers of the Harmony always found these numbers to be auspicious—now, the songbird finds little comfort in them. She speaks a bit somberly. "Well, I suppose the next course of action is clear."

How come "books are books, shows are shows, do whatever you want w characters" doesn't apply to B*lly? Not trying to start drama, just genuinely want to understand. Is it because he's a bad guy I can't reshape him into something I'd like and ignore what's "canon?"
Oh boy Nonnie okay I'll try to be really clear but it probably won't come out super legible. I'm putting it under a read more because I don't wanna clog up my dash w a long explanation (which knowing me it's going to end up being) I also want to say that all of this is MY opinion. I'm no one's ultimate judge, I'm just a guy on the internet who writes stories.
All that to say, this is why I think that fundamentally the idea that Eddie's sexuality and Billy's racism can be manipulated in fandom on the same level is really flawed.
Overall I think that the point of fan fiction is personal enjoyment. Ultimately you're creating something with yourself as the audience in mind. If not, then I don't really get it. So, for you, maybe it can mean that. Do I personally agree? No, but I can't stop anyone from creating something and putting it online. That's the whole point of ao3, no bars, no barriers. When you start putting that kind of wall in place, a slippery slope starts to form, so even if I would never personally partake in some forms of fanfic, I get why it's important to have a place where any kind of fic can exist. Back button exists for a reason, block button exists for a reason, curate your own online experience.
I'm not gonna be the person who says like if you like Billy you're a garbage person, because like that just isn't true? The two aren't automatically associated. Do I think that people who want to erase that part of Billy should maybe examine that urge? Yeah, but I think we all need to look inside and see where systematic racism might make us think things are more acceptable than they should be. I also can't understand people who want to give Vecna a redemption arc, or the people who think Sn*pe was just misunderstood. Regardless, we're all works in progress, and 90% of people to me are capable of learning more and growing and seeing where they might be working with a bias. I know I definitely have my own too.
I personally just will not give him redemption of any form or reshape him, because to do so seems to be disrespectful from my point of view to real life people. I'm not a person of color, Billy's racism is at the forefront of his character, so for me to reshape that and erase it in a fanfic feels like I would be ignoring a serious thing and pretending like that never happened, when it exists in our society in a major way. There isn't a point where Billy's racism ever gets resolved. In fact, the whole thing gets dropped completely in s3 which seems like a really terrible oversight by the Duffers. It's used as a plot point when it was convenient, which is messy and wrong.
But All of that is just background to your real question here which I believe is this-
Why is it okay to change a character's sexuality, but not their bigotry?
For me, I don't really like to equate the two? I think that the idea that someone's sexuality is a 'flaw' that needs to be reshaped is kinda problematic, and we also don't actually know Eddie's sexuality. Everyone can say what they think till the cows come home, but at no point did we get 'Eddie is confirmed gay, straight, bi, etc. etc.' EVERY single interpretation of Eddie's sexuality is someone shaping canon as they see fit right now.
With Billy he is confirmed racist. He is 100% undoubtedly a racist. Not even someone who used to be racist who learned and repented. He was always racist and tried to commit a hate crime against Lucas (I would argue that he did, because holding a twelve year old up against a wall and threatening to kill them because they're black and they dared to want to get to know your sister feels like a hate crime to me) The only reason he didn't seriously hurt Lucas was the fact that Steve stepped in. That's it. He was going to assault a child for his race.
To compare ignoring that to playing with a character's sexuality feels....mm I just strongly don't agree. I don't exactly have words to explain, but I really don't.
I think there are things you can change about characters easily. You can change their sexualities, their ages, their genders, their backstories, but to fundamentally erase something like that just doesn't line up for me.
No call out here Nonnie, I appreciate that you wanted to ask and be open, but this is my question for people who want to change Billy that way- What is it about Billy that is so compelling that it feels necessary to change that part of him? Why is Billy the character you *need* to write for?
Jonathan is a fantastic big brother who has a ton of issues and was abused by his father. If you're having the hankering to try and examine a flawed big brother, he's right there.
Eddie is an outcast (and strongly implied that he comes from an abusive home) and if you're looking to try and write about that, he's right there.
Steve is the character that has actually GONE through the redemption people always try to give Billy. He said slurs and did bad things, and almost immediately went to make amends for them when he was able to acknowledge he did the wrong thing.
Billy never even apologized. He hadn't changed by the time he died, and no I don't think sacrificing himself was some major change. I think that a villain can be tragic without needing to retroactively make them a better person. Billy is a flawed and broken person. Yes that probably relates mostly to the way he was raised and the fact that his family was violent, but that doesn't excuse it. The Byers have an abusive home, and at no point does Jonathan act the way Billy does. I think they're really good foils to each other on what can happen with a big brother.
Anyways this was a really really long answer nonnie, but I hope I got it across why I really disagree with that stance. If anyone was offended or upset, know that wasn't my intenion, and feel free to let me know.

I saw an interesting post a while back that said “Capcom made us [Miles and Diego/Godot] only have like two(?) interactions because they knew we would be unstoppable with a brother dynamic” and tbh it stuck with me bc it was intriguing.
So yeah that potential brotherhood, but that Godot/Diego AU I made (that I still need a name for)
Also I bet Gregory Edgeworth would have smelled like a bit like coffee, and so Diego just reminds Miles of that comforting presence 😭 (the von Karma estate was a tea household, so he didn’t smell much coffee after DL-6 and didn’t realize how much he missed it/reminded him of his father)

What is a jelly? In your patreon
Jelly is referring to literal jellies and jams! I have fruit trees / bushes in my yard and sometimes there's a large batch, and I send jars of that to patrons.

hioreo thoughts... please..... but take your time fi you nedd.........
okay okay i hear you guys 😭😭
here’s my thoughts on them 🫡 just for you guys
they’re really not a warranted ship, but do i care? not really, no 💀
while i encourage hiori and reo as a pairing here, i still actually think nagi has to have been in the picture. i don’t really think that they’d end up working as a pair if it weren’t for reo going through nagi in the universe this is happening in. because obviously no one (but especially hiori) would want nor need to be taken care of to the extent that nagi does/did, it’d make for a good teachable moment for reo, and also provide more ways to change and move on from him y’know. he can’t try and do the same thing(s) as he did with nagi again, just with someone else.
not necessarily that i think reo would immediately resort to treating everyone he’s closer with in the same way, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see those same behaviors bleeding into other relationships, y’know?
i think a relationship (of whatever kind) between the two of them could definitely inspire both overall personal growth, and potentially developing a new way of viewing football.
on a more fun note though. they’re both nice, they’ve both got shitty parents, they have the same blood type, they both have almost normal hair except for one minor part of it that throws the rest of the style off…. they have many things to bond over!

ONCE YOU’RE STRIPPED CLEAN, WHAT IS AT YOUR CORE ?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
cauterizing rage.
the house has burned around you, and you’re the only one left standing. is it gratifying to be the survivor? fear and anger are weapons in your capable hands, used only to serve your agenda of fighting back when deemed necessary. you're a powerful person, built from the ashes of your despair and your family's mistakes. with time, you'll bloom into someone softer, like the full blossoms that grow each spring and wither away with the leaves in fall. they won't disappear if you take your eyes off of them. you're enough.
