head coachs emotional support 2nd liner
last year (with david quinn) we had luke kunin as a second line center (hes a depth winger in teams that have more than five forwards and a dream). this year (with ryan warsofsky) we have jan rutta in second dpair . problem: they arent. good . theuy are CLOTH MOTHER!!!
we already have barclay goodrow at home
this is a quote from a tweet comparing kunin and goodrow but i CANT FIND IT...
i dont think we shoulda got barclay goodrow ill be real gang. i dont know what mike was doing here. anyways luke kunin is also our barclay goodrow at home (a bit of a goon, a bit of a leg weight) & we have barclay goodrow & warso loves sticking them together. & naturally theres some center with these two guys. (its currently will smith hockey)
the two old guys so to speak hook up
quoting this call from drew remenda regularly (~0:42 seconds in)
o captain my captain logan couture who has not touched ice since last season (but he played 6 beautiful games in our flop 23-24 season) && marc edouard vlasic (cousin of alex vlasic if you saw everyone getting pavlovian dog reactions every time they mentioned smaller pickle) who we last saw on ice last season...! theyre both out on injuries from the wear and tear of hockey and i honestly doubt we will see them again but i am incredibly fond of them.
heres some important things to know about marc edouard vlasic (pickles)! ^_^
divorced
yeah thats all i got for you
genuine question i have had for a while: how many of yall have never seen these guys on ice LOL
HOTEL CALIFORNIA!!!

david quinn has connections in the furry community (national hockey league) that could end your career in minutes

the san jose-new jersey highway
we keep collecting notable guys from new jersey... they arent even necessarily super notable IN jersey. mackenzie blackwood and vitek vanecek dont LOOK super good. i think both of them had insane injury records too?? and then we put them behind the sharks defense LMAOOOO
this post is written AFTER vitek vaneceks career record 49 save game BTW
ty equillibrium
did you know we traded away one ty (ty emberson) and also traded for one ty (ty dellandrea) . this is completely unrelated to anything .
the swedish mafia power struggle
we currently have five swedes: fabian zetterlnd, william eklund, alexander wennberg, carl grundstrom, and timothy liljegren ^_^
last season, it was a capital t thing that willyek was self appointing as head of the mafia with getting swedish meatballs at the rink (see previous link) and fabian zetterlund getting him coffee for his exit interview
alex wennberg as his senior IS challenging willyeks seating
riveting stuff. shout out to san jose shark media!

Masterlist
Pairing: Javier Peña x Horacio Carrillo
Words: 3,440
Summary: It's been 15 years since Horacio and Javier brought down Gacha in Tolú, and now they're back where their story began.
Warnings: 18+ ONLY. Brief allusions to period-typical prejudices/politics/legislation, very brief sexual references, smoking, swearing, all the fluff.
Notes: Well....I feel like I should post this with a fanfare or something (just imagine there's one playing), but oh boy, oh man, oh god. I did it. I flipping did it 😭 It's only taken 36 months, copious amounts of blood, sweat and tears, a deranged amount of research, the last shred of my sanity, and probably a fair amount of back/neck pain from sitting at my laptop for too long to get here. But hey, if I don't write a self-indulgent novel-length fix-it fic for a criminally underrated rarepair from a defunct TV show, WHO WILL, I ASK THEE? 😂
I can't fully explain the journey this fic has taken me and my writing on, or the deep love I have in my heart for this ship and the OHDH universe that has lived constantly in my head these last few years. Even when I'm not actively writing, so many things remind me of these two everywhere I go. They got me through the darkest days of the pandemic and somehow became my comfort ship, despite er, certain canon events we don't talk about in this house.
Anyway, I think you've all heard quite enough from me for the time being. So, I will just say thank you so, so, so much to anyone who has read, commented, kudosed, reblogged, liked, sent me messages, made me things, suggested music recs, generally been incredibly supportive and kind ❤️
And thank you to anyone who may stumble across this fic in future. Please never be afraid to leave a comment, even if you're reading several years down the line, I will always love to hear from people about this story.
There will also be some moodboards and playlists posted on my Tumblr at some point (and *maybe* some new - much shorter lol - fics eventually) once I've caught my breath back a bit.
For the final time (unless I randomly think of anything I've forgotten, which is more than likely lol), I’ve also added to my OHDH trivia post to cover this chapter if anyone is interested.
Chapter 24: Suerte (Epilogue)
Early evening rays painted the pastel horizon, their last act of the day transforming the shimmering ocean into an inky palate of fuchsia, violet and saffron, the golden sands at the shore still warm to the touch hours past dusk.
Come the weekend, Colombians would travel far and wide to descend on the many beaches, bars and restaurants that dotted the waterfront. Or if they were feeling adventurous, they would birdwatch, dive off the Islas de San Bernardo, or canoe amongst the mangroves.
But it was mid-week and mid-December – when most locals were at work and school or preparing for Christmas. So, for now, Horacio and Javier had the place to themselves.
There was the added bonus of the coastline turning into a dense forest of palm trees just along from their beach house, civilisation a mile or so away on either side of them, so even at peak times, they remained secluded. It had become a daily ritual to luxuriate in the peace and quiet; a pre-dinner swim with no trunks required followed by entwined limbs and sand in their hair as the sun went down.
Today was no exception, the gentle lapping of the waves around them and their shallow breaths the only sounds to be heard, the taste of salt and scent of sun lotion heavy in the air and on their skin as Horacio rocked into Javier, slow and deep, their chests and foreheads drawn together.
It was almost dark when Javier switched on the shower taps, cascading soothing jets over his head, neck and shoulders. As he soaked his hair, the lights from inside the beach house sprung to life, illuminating the outdoor bathroom with an ambient glow. It was a feature of the premium accommodation they had splashed out on, a rare treat away for a special occasion.
The outside space was a mix of wood, tiles and natural stone for the walls and floors, encased by tall plants and trees for extra privacy. A double shower stood on a platform at the end of a walkway, with a large hot tub branching off in the other direction. On their first night here, they had opted for the tub, surrounding it with candles as a belated ode to Día de las Velitas, lost in each other beneath the bubbles and the stars.
A sturdy embrace enveloped Javier from behind, a position they had found themselves in every morning by the shore before breakfast, looking out to a tranquil sea and a kaleidoscopic sky. The day jobs kept them both on their feet and in good shape, although there was more softness around their stomachs, and Javier was stockier than in his younger years. But his upper body was even broader with muscle now.
He was no gym fiend, but he had accompanied Horacio in some of his strengthening training, wanting to keep his stamina up as much as possible. Not just for the obvious but because he was sometimes required to carry the heavier supplies at work and didn’t want to be shown up in front of his largely youthful team.
It was a welcome development to Horacio, whatever the reason. Not that he ever had any complaints before, but watching Javier blossom as he aged was a wonder to behold. Not to mention, there was more of him to enjoy now.
As for Horacio, aside from the sloping curve of his midriff, he was sheer jaguar strength. Not only in the noticeable places, but his core muscles were in peak condition, the daily horse riding improving his posture and taking him back to the drill commands of his cadet years. His skin was more weathered, and his days of being meticulously cleanly shaven at all times were long gone. But Javier assured him – a lot – the ruggedness was part of the appeal.
Javier wasn’t one to talk either, stubble being a more regular feature alongside his moustache nowadays. But that was mainly due to lack of time in his busy schedule rather than preference, so it wasn’t unheard of for Horacio to do the honours for him. For some reason, Horacio delicately scraping a razor blade across his jaw from the comfort of his lap was far more appealing to Javier than doing it himself in front of the bathroom mirror.
Their hair contained more grey patches, especially around the temples, which was easier to hide when they grew it longer. That wasn’t practical during the sweltering heat of a Texan summer, so they kept it shorter in the hotter months. But in the winter, they could run their fingers through choppy waves and coils of curls to their hearts’ content. And luckily for them, their anniversary fell in December.
“Can you believe it’s been 15 years to the day?” Horacio asked, scattering kisses across Javier’s back.
“This doesn’t even feel like the same fucking place, to be honest.”
“Tell me about it.”
Horacio let out a huff as flashbacks of leading his men on a fleet of raiding crafts towards Gacha’s hideout collided with memories from merely days ago of him and Javier island hopping in a hire boat along the same waters. They had taken a platter of fresh seafood and fruit, exploring the remotest beaches and lagoons, where their only company was the local wildlife.
He could still remember the sensation of the blood at his temple as he lay disorientated on the sand in the aftermath of the explosion, a stark contrast to dozing together under the shade of a palm tree or reading aloud to each other the words of Lorca, Gaitán Durán, Arbeláez, Neruda, Paz, Castellanos and Mistral.
“Although, I did notice signs for the barracks towards Coveñas when we were driving here,” Horacio added with a nostalgic smirk.
“Oh yeah? You didn’t want another night there for old times’ sake?” Javier tilted his head until he found Horacio’s lips with his teeth.
Horacio hummed and put up no resistance, his wet hands sailing with ease down Javier’s body, finding purchase at his hip bones. “It was tempting. But I figured you’d want to make the most of this before Christmas.”
“Damn right.”
They took turns massaging shampoo into each other’s scalps, lathering the suds through thick spirals, tenderly pulling at strands until they purred, thoroughly indulging in the sensation whilst they had the chance. And then they did it all again, rinsing off the soap, floating away on the meditative pressure of the faucet and their fingers.
“We could always see if Alejandra has more spa freebies if it gets too much, though,” Javier suggested through the haze of steam now cocooning them.
“I like your thinking.”
It had been a while since they last used such tickets, their previous visits not dissimilar to how their current vacation was playing out. But despite the chaos that would no doubt ensue, they were looking forward to catching up with Horacio’s side of the family. Between expanding businesses in Texas and Manizales and the oldest half of the brood living and working elsewhere now with the twins staying at home studying, they didn’t get to meet up as much as they would have liked.
However, Elena visited Laredo several times, swapping life stories and recipes with Chucho and joining Horacio and Javier in San Antonio one spring for the Fiesta. Her last holiday outside of Colombia had been before Alejandra and Horacio were born, so she was determined to take advantage of having family abroad before age finally caught up with her. There had even been discussions of a trip to Madrid if Horacio and Javier could arrange cover at work the following year.
“Pops is flying out on the 20th, right?”
“Yes. Marco and Raúl are covering the ranch and animals until your father’s back on the 28th. And Jorge is covering the farm until we’re home from Miami in the New Year.”
No one was keen to leave Luna, Sol and Leo, who had long since retired from ranch duties, but between work and Christmas commitments, Connie taking a full-time job in a different hospital, now Olivia was a teenager going on 30, and the earlier-than-expected arrival of Felipe’s and Juana’s second child – Óscar, a little brother to Claudia – New Year was the only time everyone’s schedules matched up.
These days, Luna, whose main residence was the cottage now, Sol and Leo spent most of their time nestled on furniture or looking for treats in the kitchen whenever food was prepared. However, Luna would sometimes still ride in the back of Horacio’s truck and keep him company in the lower fields.
Kira and Fuego had become old pros, showing their younger siblings, Cielo and Tierra, the ropes, not as replacements to the trio but as a new team with their own quirks and personalities. Thankfully, the dogs and Coco had taken well to the pair of barn cats, Churro and Tamale, who patrolled the outbuildings and dealt with any rodent intruders.
Meanwhile, Chucho showed few signs of slowing down, except one summer when he twisted an ankle, and even that was hard work to get him to rest. But he had been happy to step back from some of his more physically demanding responsibilities in recent years, trusting that the ranch and farm were in capable hands. With their expansion plans a resounding success – plus some new ones up their sleeves – he had become more involved in the business side of the operation alongside Miguel.
And, of course, he was always happy to offer Horacio advice whenever needed. But for the most part, he left him to it since Félix’s retirement, preferring to arrange for the guesthouses to be refurbished or to deliver fresh batches of cooking to aid workers and exhausted arrivals alike on the frontline of the border.
“Bet Jorge was as thrilled about that arrangement as my team.”
“Well, we can always delegate to our deputies whenever necessary. One of the perks of being promoted.”
It had taken Horacio five years under Félix’s watchful eye – and decades of experience – to be granted the title of farm manager. Then, Félix had retired the previous year, satisfied he had picked the right man as his successor and Jorge as deputy.
Horacio still had plenty to learn and likely always would with the constant conveyor belt of change to farming methods and technology that landed on his desk each month. However, there was a sense of familiarity with certain parts of the job, like the meetings, the paperwork, and the budget constraints. Except, this time, it all came without the funerals, the upper echelons of the CNP breathing down his neck, and the crushing weight of a country’s future on his shoulders.
“And a holiday on the Caribbean coast was necessary, was it?” Now that Javier’s hair was free from sand and shampoo, he turned to face Horacio, their lips almost touching.
Horacio nodded sagely and closed the gap. “A critical business need.”
------------------------------------------------------
Once dried off, they lay in a hammock in matching white towel robes under the thatched porch of their beach house with a perfect view of the sea, moon and stars.
“So, you like it here?” Horacio asked after a comfortable silence.
“It’s beautiful. I’m glad we came back – to see it how it’s meant to be.”
“Me too. Although, I fear violence will always be a parasite latched onto Colombia. Just when you think it’s gone from one place, it rears its head again in another. Or even the same place twice if you’re unlucky.”
Horacio remembered the stories he had heard from Trujillo in the last couple of years – particularly about Operation Orion. Officially, the incursion on Comuna 13 had been a success by the Colombian military against the likes of FARC. Unofficially, however, there were rumours of a leaked CIA report, disappeared individuals, and collusion between an Army General and none other than Don Berna’s subordinate. It was hard to keep faith that Medellín would ever be free from its past when history had such a predictable habit of repeating itself.
“I know. It feels like one step forward and two steps back in the States, too. Terrorism might be the new bogeyman, but re-branding to ICE and throwing a shitload of money at the DHS hasn’t stopped the drugs and the people finding their way over the border.”
Javier had heard directly from Steve about the shift in his job role since 9/11. Overnight, Steve’s whole department was removed from their current caseloads and signed up for every counter-terrorism and narco-terrorism course under the sun. It was now customary for DEA agents to be redeployed to the FBI as intelligence analysts if resources required. And if their eyes and ears were pulled away from the drug traffickers, it didn’t take a genius to figure out the consequences.
Meanwhile, in Texas, if anything, people only took graver risks in the wake of a beefed-up Border Patrol. Javier had spent a lot of the past year helping to set up new aid teams in Arizona and New Mexico, the inhospitable conditions of the desert not enough of a deterrent to stop families trying their luck or handing over their life savings to coyotes who didn’t care whether they made it across alive.
“But small things can add up to change. Bit by bit,” Javier added. “And at least they can’t arrest us for fucking in our own home anymore.”
“True. Not that the law stopped us before...” Horacio nuzzled against Javier’s neck before making a move to get up.
They may have joked in the here and now, but it wasn’t a change they took for granted. In fact, Luz and Carla had even persuaded Javier to attend a protest or two and pay bond and legal fees for those who had been arrested. After all, he’d had plenty of experience exchanging money for people’s freedom.
When news of the Supreme Court decision spread, it was another weight off their backs and one less reason to look over their shoulders, a chance to permanently put to bed memories of being spied on during such unguarded sacred moments. It was the final line to be drawn under those dark years, not to erase them because that was impossible. But it was, at least, closure.
Their cigarette was almost done, and Horacio had left the opened pack on the kitchen counter. Once retrieved, he took out another and leaned into Javier across the hammock, pressing the tip of his unlit cigarette against the lit one until it sparked.
“But you’re right,” Horacio continued, holding Javier’s gaze between exhaling a plume of smoke. He balanced on the edge of the hammock, just enough to stop it tipping sideways. “Things can change. But only if we want them to.” He perched their new cigarette between his lips as he reached into the pocket of his robe.
Their first cigarette was little more than a stub, so Javier stooped down to the ashtray on the floor to extinguish it. Once he sat up again, a small cubed box was presented into his spare hand.
Javier stared at the black box and blew out remnants of smoke, eyeing Horacio with an unreadable expression, an unspoken question and answer lingering between them and the mist of tobacco.
He prised open the box to reveal a ring of plain silver. Or, so he thought at first glance. But as he raised it towards the moon, the iridescent light caught on the inner band to reveal an inscription.
Suerte que encontré a mi media naranja.
(Lucky that I found my soulmate.)
“Fuck, Horacio…” Javier’s voice was strained, and his words came out as little more than a whisper. He held the ring between his thumb and forefinger, letting the ethereal reflection from above capture each word.
Horacio watched every shift in Javier’s face with bated breath and a dry throat, his limbs lead and weightless all at once.
“The world’s changing around us,” Horacio said at last; swallowing his nerves and summoning his courage. “But no matter what the law or courts say in any state or country, this can mean whatever we want it to mean.”
Javier’s jaw worked back and forth, his teeth clamping down on the inside of his cheeks. But it was no use, and he let out a trembling scoff, an attempt to distract from the shining pupils he finally confronted Horacio with.
And then a broad smile crept across Javier’s features, his palm connecting with Horacio’s cheek before he plucked the cigarette from his fingers and took a drag. “Pass me my jeans.”
It took Horacio a moment to process Javier’s request. Of all the responses he had prepared for – the good and the bad – that hadn’t been on his list, funnily enough. With narrowed eyes and pursed lips, he complied and fetched the jeans that had been flung over a sun lounger when they stripped off to swim earlier. Apparently, regardless of how humid the climate in Tolú became, denim remained a reliable staple of Javier’s wardrobe.
“Check my left pocket.”
Whatever Javier was up to, Horacio was torn between intrigue and irritation at Javier’s temerity to issue orders despite leaving him hanging. But he did as he was told, and in an instant, everything made sense.
“I can always take it back if you’d prefer…”
But Horacio was already opening the near-identical box, and any teasing faded to white noise as he came face-to-face with the gold equivalent of his own proposal.
“Hold it up to the light.”
The night sky was brighter now, making it easier for the inscription to be revealed.
Mi amor, mi vida, mi hogar, mi vaquero. Siempre tuyo.
(My love, my life, my home, my cowboy. Yours always.)
It was Javier’s turn to observe, and it didn’t take long for Horacio to raise a brow in his direction, shooting him a look of feigned exasperation that only came with the territory of a relationship as enduring as theirs.
“What?” Javier said with disingenuous innocence and a vulpine smile.
It was a contagious kind of smile, one that reminded Horacio they were equals in this and that he shouldn’t have been surprised Javier had the same idea.
“I take it my mother showed you her ring?”
“On my first visit to Manizales. It was beautiful. And so’s this.”
“As is this.”
“I like to think I put my own spin on it.”
“You did.”
They sat side-by-side on the hammock, legs facing towards each other with the rings held in their outstretched hands.
Javier’s thumb slid across Horacio’s left palm, tracing patterns over new callouses born from hard labour rather than war. He circled his wrist, waiting for the familiar rhythm but finding a beat that was, unsurprisingly, drumming quicker than usual.
After subduing with his touch, Javier retrieved the gold band, gliding it carefully onto Horacio’s ring finger, easing it over the knuckle until it rested snugly at the base.
They sat transfixed, marvelling at the light dancing across it as Horacio’s thumb ran back and forth over the curved surface in fascination.
Horacio repeated the ritual of mapping Javier’s left hand, lacing their fingers together as a tangible reminder of their bond. Their devotion. Their vow. Their choice. Whether the law honoured it one day or not.
He picked up the silver to his gold, shimmying it along Javier’s ring finger and passing beyond the slight resistance at his knuckle. Not too much force, but firm enough for it to sink perfectly into place.
With palms connected and fingers interlocked, their foreheads met, chests rising and falling in tandem.
“Te amo tanto, Javier.”
“Yo también te amo. Tanto, Horacio. Tanto.” Javier whispered, over and over in Horacio’s ear like a prayer – their prayer – before brushing his lips above Horacio’s brow, the bridge of his nose, both cheeks and down to his mouth, creating their own sign of the cross with each kiss. A new beginning and a welcome home.
They untied their robes and collapsed onto the hammock in a tangle of limbs, silver and gold melding at their chests and hands; their past, present and future as inseparable as their hearts, bodies and souls.
With one smooth motion, Horacio pinned Javier’s arms down into the netting of the hammock, a dark, hungry gaze passing between them as cool metal fused with hot skin.
15 years and several lifetimes may have gone by. But when Horacio had the man he loved, the man who loved him, his media naranja, underneath him, only one word ran through his head. Mine.
Old habits die hard, he supposed.

Bradley frowns in the mirror. He glances at his phone and frowns again. If he keeps this up he’s going to be late. The truth of the matter is that he doesn’t want to go. It’s Friday. It’s been a week since getting back from D.C. and it feels like it’s been a million years. He’d gotten used to it, waking up with you in his arms every morning. Every night this past week he’s had to stop himself from asking you to come over. He’d put the ball in your court, though. You’d asked him to pump the brakes so he had, and he’d promised to respect that.
On top of that, he hadn’t seen much of you this week. The two of you have been busy working nonstop since getting home early Friday morning. You’d both headed home half-asleep from the airport before having to be back first thing Saturday for a game versus Vancouver. The most time alone you’d gotten together was that Saturday morning when you’d called him into your office to sign the official paperwork that would make your relationship officially disclosed to the rest of the team. He smiles as he remembers your soft smile, shy as you signed your name next to his. He’d been sorely tempted to take you right then and there on your desk but he knew that was strictly off-limits and questionably unprofessional at best. He’d settled with a simple kiss to your cheek that had your skin heating under his lips in a way that he loves so much.
Saturday’s game was followed by two more home games on Tuesday and Thursday with Carolina and New Jersey respectively. It definitely didn’t help that yesterday’s game had been nationally broadcast which meant you’d been absolutely slammed with work and preparations all week. He also knows you went out last night with Mickey and some of his former New Jersey teammates.
It didn’t make missing you any easier. He doesn’t have time to call you but he does it anyway, putting the phone on speaker as he fixes his hair. It’s been too long since he’s gotten you all to himself and he’s feeling selfish tonight. You pick up on the third ring, your bright voice echoing around the empty bathroom as he smiles to himself, his mood already lifting. “Hi Bradley, what can I do for you?” He chuckles.
“What? I can’t call my girlfriend without wanting something from her?” It’s new, this label you’ve put on things. Actually, neither of you has yet to actually use the label but he likes the way it sounds in his mouth. He hears your breath hitch and he knows he’s caught you by surprise. Suddenly he’s wondering if he’s overstepped when your voice fills the room yet again.
“Your girlfriend?” Your voice is tentative and he wishes you were here so he could wrap you in his arms and chase away all your doubts with his lips.
“I know I didn’t sign an official form to be the guy you occasionally kiss and take spontaneous road trips with, Honey.” He hears you giggle and his smile tugs wider.
“Plus I guess it would be pretty awkward if you introduced me to your parents and I wasn’t your girlfriend.”
“Nah, I would have introduced you anyway. They would have loved you.” He says and sighs deeply as he looks into the mirror again. He doesn’t want to go to this dinner. He wants to invite you over and have your laugh bounce off the walls for real. He wants your warmth to fill every room of the apartment. He wants to sit you on the kitchen island while he cooks for the two of you and then he wants you to spend the night in his bed so your scent will be glued to his sheets until the next time he can coax you there.
“Any fun plans tonight, Bear?” Your sweet voice breaks through his thoughts and his lips twitch at the new nickname.
“Bear?” He hears you giggle again and smiles.
“Yeah, because you’re big and scary when you want to be but you’re also a secret cuddler and give the best hugs.” He can imagine the way your cheeks are heating as you continue to rain compliments on him. “And bears like honey.” You add matter-of-factly. This bear happens to love honey but he knows better than to mention that right now. “So? Any fun plans tonight?” He groans then as he’s reminded that if he doesn’t leave soon he’s going to be late.
“Dinner at Mav’s.” He doesn’t have to say anything for you to know exactly how excited he is for that.
“And how are you feeling about that?” You ask tentatively and he sighs.
“Honestly, Honey? It’s the last place I want to be right now. I’d much rather be having dinner with you.” He can’t help the admission as he lets it slip.
“That makes two of us.” Suddenly he really REALLY doesn’t want to go. “But that being said, I’ve had a migraine and hangover all day after last night.” You let out your own groan and a fond but concerned smile touches Bradley’s lips. He wants nothing more than to wrap you up and spoil you rotten. He can tell you’re exhausted and he wants to be one to take care of you.
“Get some rest, Honey, you’ve had a long week.” You groan again and Bradley hears paper rustling. His brows furrow as you confirm his suspicions.
“I’d love to but I’ve got a literal mountain of paperwork that needs to get done before I can leave. And then I have to go grocery shopping because there’s literally nothing in my fridge.” You let out a frustrated whine and Bradley’s about five seconds away from texting Maverick to cancel so that he can bring you here and dote on you. Unfortunately, his mother’s voice in his head takes that exact moment to remind him that Penny’s making dinner and while Maverick certainly doesn’t deserve his respect, she does.
“Tell you what, Honey.” He hears you hum in response. “Finish up your work and come over. I’ll give Tony my spare key and tell him to let you in. Order some pizza and get comfortable and I’ll be back before you know it.”
You’re silent for a long moment before you ask. “Bear?”
“Yes, Honey?”
“Do you have a tub?” He blinks, surprised by the question as he turns around and looks at the free-standing porcelain tub behind him.
“I do.” He hears some rustling from your end before you ask.
“Can I have a bubble bath?” His laugh echoes off the walls of the bathroom at your simple request.
“Honey, you can have whatever you want.” He replies and he’s surprised to find that he truly means it. He’d lasso the moon for you if you asked and he’s not even sure what you’d want it for in the first place. He hears your squeal of delight on the other end of the call and smiles as he imagines you here, in his space, the thing he’s been dreaming of all week. “Honey, I hate to cut things short, but I need to start heading over to Mav’s. I’ll see you after?”
“No problem, see you soon, Bear!” Your voice is much more cheery than he feels but he can feel your infectious attitude raising his mood. He hears the line disconnect and lets out a heavy sigh.
The promise of you waiting here when he gets back is what drives him to finish getting ready. He makes sure to give Tony the spare key and doesn’t miss the look the older man gives him when he tells him to expect the young woman from last week. His cheeks are still pink when he pulls out of the parking garage.
***
When Bradley finally sees the house he can’t help the disgusted sneer that pulls his lips. The house is huge, to say the least. He knows he shouldn’t be surprised, given Mav’s long and highly decorated career, but all he can think about is the house he grew up in. How the lawn was almost always overgrown while his mother was alive and the paint was almost always peeling off the sides no matter how much he tried to help with the upkeep when he had the time. Mr. Peterson from next door had helped out more often than not but Bradley remembers the feeling of the calluses on his mother’s hands when he held them, first as a small child and then later at the cusp of adulthood as she’d laid in the hospital near the end. It wasn’t that he didn’t believe in his mother working, but he knew deep down that that wasn’t the life that she or his father had imagined for her when they got married.
Carole Bradshaw was Nick’s Princess, his Queen. He wanted to give everything in the world to her on a silver platter. And he’d been on the road to doing so. He’d made it all the way to the NHL, and he got to play on the regular roster. Things were looking up. Carole could focus on raising their son instead of struggling to make ends meet, filling the kitchen table with her delicious cooking instead of piles of bills that needed paying. It would have broken his heart to see how her life turned out.
They weren’t poor, not by any means. Bradley knew that as much as he knew that it was mostly due to the person whose driveway he was currently pulling into. Maverick had been nothing but generous when it came to money, but there were simply some things that money couldn’t buy and he didn’t seem to understand that from the limited conversations Bradley had had with him.
Bradley thinks back to Dare’s little bungalow that he’d visited barely a week ago. She’d coached the Pittsburgh Penguins to five Stanley Cup wins and yet she isn’t living in this state of excess. What disgusts him the most is that she should be. All of this should be hers too.
He tries to get his temper under control as he strolls up the walkway to the double doors. He hears barking coming from inside and when he rings the doorbell he does his best to smile back at Penny Benjamin. Penny Benjamin is a confusing situation for him. He knows that none of this is her fault, Mav abandoning his entire past and everyone involved in it, but it’s hard not to blame her when she’s here, living in Maverick’s McMansion with her pseudo-husband and dog. He leans down to scratch the ears of the elderly Labrador. “Bradley, glad you could join us, come on in.” He follows her inside, down hallways lined with photographs from over the years of Maverick, Penny, and a little girl who ranges in age across the various photos. “That’s my daughter, Amelia,” Penny explains when she catches him watching.
“Yours?” He asks before clarifying. “Just yours, I mean?” He can feel his cheeks heating as his mother’s voice chides him for asking such an inappropriate question.
She doesn’t seem ruffled, nodding. “Just mine, from my ex-husband. She’s probably around your age, she was barely a few months old when I met Maverick. He may not be her birth father but he’s the only one she’s ever known.” Bradley hates the bitterness that pools in his stomach at her words. The jealousy that he could have been the child in the pictures on the wall, doted on by his godfather who should have stepped into the role left vacant by the death of his father.
He’s doing his best to reign in his emotions as they reach the dining room, but it all goes to hell the moment he realizes he’s not the only guest at this dinner. Seated across from Maverick is none other than Dare. Bradley has to fight to keep his hands from curling into fists at his sides because the woman at the dining table is nothing like the one he’s seen before. Usually Dare is the picture of confidence without looking cocky. She knows what she’s doing and she’s not afraid to show it. She reminds him of you and the kind of woman that he’s sure you’ll grow up to be. Now that confidence is gone and Bradley’s fighting the urge to throttle the man that he’s sure is responsible. She looks unsure of herself and as uncomfortable as he feels to be here if not more. He immediately moves to take the seat next to her, keeping his eyes off Maverick as he does his best to assess for damage. He knows it’s probably nothing that he can see but he wants to because all he sees is his mother after a long day of carrying a burden that’s not hers to carry anymore. He can’t count the number of times he’s seen that face and it breaks his heart to see it now, on the face of someone who shouldn’t have to suffer but who is anyway. All because one self-centered fool can’t be bothered to get his head out of his ass.
Maybe he does it out of protectiveness, but maybe he does it out of pure spite, but he does it anyway. He wraps his arms around the older woman, the way she had done for him in her kitchen while he fell apart in his arms. He knows it’s nothing in the grand scheme of things, but he intends to make up for the sins of his godfather if he can. Be there for the person who was there for his mother, for him even if he hadn’t been able to fully appreciate it at the time. The way her body tenses under him at first is the only evidence of her surprise at the gesture but she reciprocates the hug and Bradley finds himself engulfed in a scent that stirs in his memory. He can’t draw a concrete image from it but he knows he’s smelt it before like these hugs aren’t something new just something forgotten. When Bradley finally breaks the hug to sit next to Dare, Maverick is looking at them, surprised.
“I didn’t realize the two of you were close.” He says awkwardly. Bradley knows he shouldn’t do it but there’s something so satisfying about seeing Maverick as uncomfortable as he and Dare are so he pushes.
“She’s my godmother, why wouldn’t we be?” Sure this thing with Dare was new but that didn’t negate the fact that she’d been around his whole life. And sure he was stretching the truth a little, but measured on a scale of Maverick’s involvement in his life? Dare was winning the godparent race by a landslide. Maverick’s eyebrows raise with surprise, and Bradley watches the confusion swirl in his eyes. He’s fighting the urge to smirk as he feels fingers brush his own and he laces them. His throat is rough as he feels the callouses on her palm and he wonders at how much her hand reminds him of his mother’s, the soft wrinkles on the back contrasted by the rough patches on the front.
Penny breaks the tension as he comes back into the dining room from the kitchen. “Bradley, can I get you something to drink?” He tears his eyes away from Maverick and stares at Penny for a beat too long before he mutters that water would be fine.
“So, why am I here?” Bradley asks once Penny has retreated to the kitchen.
“Dinner, I thought I told you,” Maverick starts before Bradley shakes his head.
“Not here at your house, here in San Diego.”
“Bradley, why don’t we wait until later to discuss-“
“No, we’re doing this now because I need to know.” He’s tired of dancing around the question that’s been plaguing him for almost six months now. Sure, he didn’t exactly regret the move now, but he wasn’t ready to just move on like nothing happened. “Not only did you uproot me from the team I’ve played for my entire career, but you made me leave my friends and my home. I deserve an actual answer as to why. And don’t you dare say you did it for me because if it was for me, you would have picked up the phone to ask me first instead of going behind my back.” In the back of his mind, he’s proud of how level he’s managed to keep his voice but at least part of that is due to Dare’s hand in his, squeezing tight in solidarity and grounding him.
Maverick shrugs like it’s a no-brainer. “I had the chance to work with you, so I took it. I thought it would be a good experience for us.”
Bradley feels all the fight drain out of him. All the pain that’s been caused and Maverick treats it like it’s nothing. Because to him it is. “What did you think? That I’d come to San Diego and suddenly I’d be ready to come over and drink beers and sing Kumbayah? What have I ever done to suggest that I would be interested in a relationship with you at all, professional OR personal?”
“Bradley, I’m your godfather-“
“BULLSHIT.” Bradley’s voice is raised finally as his emotion gets the best of him. “You may think you’re a god but you are certainly not my father. My father is dead, my DAD is dead, and you had every opportunity to step up and be there when I needed you. When my mom needed you. When WE needed you, but you didn’t.” He’s breathing hard. “That’s the thing that you just don’t seem to get. You don’t get to decide when I need you. You don’t get to be my godfather when it’s convenient for you and you’ve run out of hobbies to pass the time. I have a life! I have goals! None of which involve you. You don’t get access to my life just because of some title my dad thought you were worthy of. Because that’s just a word, you have to earn it.” Dare’s grip on Bradley’s hand is bordering on painful at this point but it feels good. It reminds him that he’s capable of feeling. The physical pain complements the emotional pain that’s threatening to tear the heart from his chest. He’s breathing hard and every part of him wants to leave right now. Except that he doesn’t want to leave Dare here. And he feels terrible about ruining Penny's perfectly good dinner. When it’s clear that Maverick isn’t about to argue any of the points that Bradley’s just made he stands and walks into the kitchen to cool off.
Penny’s filling a glass with water and passes it to him wordlessly and he drinks it, hoping to cool his head. “Sorry to ruin your dinner.” He says awkwardly as he fiddles with the glass. She shakes her head and takes the glass back from him, refilling it as she considers her words.
“You’re hurting Bradley, I would hate for something as simple as a dinner to cause you more pain.” He nods silently.
“My mom would be so disappointed with me right now.” He’s not sure why he admits it but it’s all he can think of as he looks around the kitchen at the plates of sides and cooling casserole dish on the counter.
“Really? Because if I was her I’d be proud of you.” He looks back at Penny, eyes wide with surprise. “You stood up to Pete, and told him your real feelings. You were honest with him even if it hurt you to do it. I don’t think that’s anything to be ashamed of. That’s brave.” She reaches up then and cups his cheek gently, a fond smile on her face. “I’m sorry that I didn’t push him more, to be a part of your life, to be there for you and your mom. I was selfish and I never meant for you to get hurt by that.” Bradley shakes his head.
“You were probably scared that he’d leave you too. It seems like that’s all he’s good for.”
“I was scared then, yes. And now I know that I shouldn’t have been because that’s not Pete, not really. He’s a complicated man and doesn’t always have the best judgment but he’s good under it all, I can tell you that much. It’s completely fair of you to not want him to be a part of your life, but if you ever decide otherwise? We’ll be waiting for you.” Bradley swallows hard, unable to look her in the eye. “Can I pack some dinner up for you, sweetie?”
He nods absentmindedly before adding. “Can you pack some for Dare too, I don’t want to leave her here.” Penny just nods and sets about getting out some Tupperware.
“I don’t blame you.” Bradley blurts out before he loses his nerve. “Just because I’m mad at Maverick doesn’t mean I’m mad at you. We choose who we love, we don’t choose who loves us.” She gives him a soft smile.
“That’s a good insight, Bradley.”
“It’s what my mom used to tell me.” He shrugs even as he feels the tears pressing against the backs of his eyes. Penny finishes boxing up two dinners and Bradley takes the two plastic bags from her as they go back into the dining room. “Aunt Dare, are you ready to go?” The words, although new, feel familiar in his mouth like a warm hug. She looks at him surprised and then her eyes fall on the bags in his hand and then shift to Penny who just smiles.
“We can reschedule for another day.” Dare nods and a silent conversation occurs between the two women as she stands and follows Bradley to the front door. Penny sees them out. Maverick still hasn’t gotten up from the table.
Once the front door closes behind them, Bradley and Dare walk to their cars in silence until they get to them. “Do you have any plans for the evening?” Bradley asks, tentatively. He knows you’re probably still at work since he’s barely spent thirty minutes here. He also knows you’d want him to do this instead of worrying about you. Dare shakes her head, still quiet, considering him. “What do you say we take dinner to your place?” She smiles gently and then wraps her arms around Bradley. He relaxes into her embrace.
“Thank you, Bradley,” she whispers into his hair and his heart clenches at the thickness of her voice. “Dinner sounds lovely.” She says as she lets him go. “I’ll meet you there.”
They get into their cars and Bradley follows Dare back to her place. He frowns to himself when he sees the overgrown yard. She lets them in and he excuses himself to the bathroom while she dishes up Penny’s food. When he gets back, he’s just about to sit down at the kitchen table when a shout from Dare in the kitchen makes him freeze.
“Maverick, get off the counter RIGHT NOW!” He whips around, expecting to see a man but instead, a burst of orange fuzz speeds out of the kitchen in a blur. Bradley follows the blur as it perches on the arm of the sofa, regarding him with yellow eyes. The orange cat is more fur than cat and looks fairly old despite how spry it clearly is. “Maverick Mitchell the Third, you know better to get on the kitchen counter.” Dare comes out of the kitchen, an unamused scowl on her face as she sets her hands on her hips and glares at the cat. “Can’t you see we have a guest?” The cat, Maverick, turns to regard Bradley curiously. “Bradley, that’s Maverick.” She says to Bradley, her scowl melting into a look of fondness. Bradley gives the cat a half-hearted wave, still recovering from the shock of the cat sharing a name with his godfather.
“He wasn’t here last time.” Bradley blurts out lamely and she chuckles, bringing out two plates.
“He was locked in my room. I didn’t know if you were a cat person and I didn’t want to appear too much like a crazy old cat lady.” Bradley smiles at that.
“You’re not old.” He points out.
“But still a crazy cat lady noted.” She smiles back and Bradley laughs, putting his hands up in mock surrender.
“Your words, not mine.” They laugh together and the tension from earlier seems to seep out of both their bodies. “So, you named your cat Maverick?” He says as they dig into the food. It’s delicious and he makes a note to mention it to Penny the next time he sees her. Dare nods thoughtfully.
“Pete was always just Pete to me. I hated that nickname, so I never used it. Then when I got the cat to fill the void it just felt right.”
“Maverick the Third?” He asks around a bite of chicken casserole.
She shrugs. “I’m old after all.” There’s a lull in conversation as they east before Dare speaks up again. “Thank you, Bradley, for what you did today.”
“I meant every word of it. I know you’re upset that you weren’t around more when I was younger but you’re here now and I want you in my life if you want to be.”
She smiles and he can see the shine of tears in her eyes as she says “I’d like that very much.” He scoots his chair closer and reaches his hand out to hold hers. The sight of her wedding ring still on her finger makes his heart ache subtly. He can’t right every wrong that she’s suffered, but he can do his best.
“Aunt Dare, do you have a lawnmower?”
***
A few hours later Bradley’s riding the elevator back up to his apartment, reeking of dried sweat and freshly cut grass. It's the last he could do but he’d felt the conviction to get it done tonight. Admittedly it had been a while since he’d cut grass but he figured it looked alright when he finished. The sun has long since sunk beneath the horizon and he hopes you haven’t been waiting for him too long. The idea of feeling you in his arms propels him out of the elevator and through the door. He could really use one of your hugs after the evening he’s had.
“Honey?” He calls out for you as he enters the apartment, but he’s met with silence. A glance by the door tells him that you’re here since your sneakers are lined up neatly. He walks down the hall. “Mom, I’m home.” He calls out the photo as he passes by, more preoccupied with finding you. A glance at the living room tells him that you’ve been there. A blanket is rumpled on the couch where you were clearly wrapped in it and a pizza box lies abandoned on the kitchen counter but there’s still no sign of you. He doubles back and checks the guest room first but it’s pristine. Remembering your request for a bubble bath, Bradley heads into the master bathroom and while the room is still sticky with humid warmth and the tub contains remnants of said bubble bath, you’re still yet to be found. He heads back to the living room and tries the balcony. He knows from your last visit that you enjoy the view. He walks the entire length of the wrap-around balcony but it’s empty.
He’s genuinely starting to worry for your safety when his eyes fall on the glass door leading into his bedroom from the balcony. Not even a week ago you stood where he does now, blatantly ogling him as he got changed for game night. Now it provides the answer to his quest. You’re curled up in his bed, facing the window. The lights are still on but by the steady rise and fall of your chest, he can tell you’re asleep. He lets out a breath he didn’t even know he was holding as he heads back inside, coming into his bedroom from the hallway. You’re indeed asleep, on the side of the bed you favored in D.C. As much as he wants to talk to you about the events of the evening he can’t bear to wake you when you look so peaceful. Stress doesn’t mar your features as you sleep and he begrudgingly trudges to the bathroom to shower before slipping in beside you. He knows he should wake you up, and give you the option to go home but he’s feeling selfish tonight so when he comes back to the bedroom to still find you sleeping soundly he turns out the lights and slides into the bed beside you. He’s resigned himself to staying on his side of the bed when you scoot your body up against his. He reaches for you instinctively, pulling you close and when you curl against him all is right in the world.
“Goodnight, Bear.” Your half-asleep voice murmurs as you drift between dreams.
“Goodnight, Honey.” He whispers back, pressing a soft kiss to the top of your head as he lets the warmth of your body and the steady beat of your heart lull him to sleep.

I’m not ready for this car ride and I know for a fact that Fenrir isn’t either. There’s going to be arguing the whole way through. But hey~ It’ll be fun and we’ll be in a remote cabin for like a week so if you don’t hear from me it’s cause something happened. Heh, fun.~ See you all…well when I see ya! *snorts*
⭐️: Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates! ^^ There’ll be a couple of posts for the rest of this month and then after just birthday posts. I most possibly won’t post anything in December except birthday posts and maybe an ask game for fun! I hope everyone has good and fun holidays! 🥰

Ravenous by @rageprufrock
This is my first time trying to upload a post on my phone, so here we go -
Statistics:
38448 words || 148 pages
Titling: Playfair Display
Chapter Headers: Alchemist Serif Font
Body text: Charter, 11 points
A quickie bind in between 2 chonky chaparral_crown binds! This fic was recommended to me on the Renegade Discord and after I read it, it immediately leapt to the top of my to-bind pile. Sometimes you just need a taster of short fic bind while you procrastinate on the next few steps. I have a great appreciation for rageprufrock fics (have been reading them since the Star Trek days of yore) and damn, is this Hannibal fic absolute gorgeousness.
I had initially planned a wound man design on the cover (went so far as to convert an image to a black and white PNG but the image quality wasn't great, and due to violence, it might have been a rather disturbing cover to post publicly so I changed my mind last minute and did something else instead. The spine was too small for titling - I had initially wanted to go for block letters a la Annihilation style on the front cover as the title is 8 letters, but it hadn't looked as good as the serif no caps font rotated 90 degrees - so serif font it was. Hannibal doesn't seem like a man who likes san serif fonts anyway, so perhaps this was the right choice.
I'm deeply fond of this particular bookcloth and its colour iterations but I need some colour variation on my shelf - next book will be green, I swear.
I kept the bind relatively simple and relatively classic. The endpapers are foiled, though the foiling doesn't show up well in photos. I used a chattering of starlings on the chapter headers, and can totally imagine Hannibal drawing little artistic birds for his own amusement while incarcerated in the psychiatric hospital. For the title page, I had wanted to do a face with a moth in the style of Silence of the Lambs, but couldn't find a nice enough stock photo, so I foiled a solitary moth with the help of toner reactive foil. The laminator didn't like the foil so much and left a line across the paper.
The HTV itself adhered largely like a dream other than the thin stringy bits that were a tad difficult to weed. The gold metallic is a standout and I didn't melt it this time. (hurray!)

Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing
A MavDad/PennyMav Fic
Synopsis: What do paperwork and a manicure have to do with Pete Mitchell getting the happy ending he never thought he would?
Everything, apparently.
Warnings: Fluff—pure, unadulterated fluff with feels.
Author’s Note: At last, I fulfill my promise to write something for Mav!
I couldn’t be happier to finally write something where Mav is the star, and not the wingman, literal or figurative.
Honestly, this story idea has been floating around in my head for a while, and here it is!
I know I should be working on the next chapter of Wherever You Go, or heck, even my faceclaim post for said fic, but this just wanted to be written already, and hopefully, now that I’ve gotten it out of my system, I will be able to get back to writing that.
I swear I didn’t plan to post this around Valentine’s Day, but hey, I’m not complaining!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy my schmoopy MavDad indulgence!
“Honey, have you done your homework?” Mav heard Penny ask Amelia, from where he was drying the dinner dishes in the kitchen.
“Did it this afternoon, Mom, and I told you, the light is better here.”
“Okay, alright, let me just open a window before you suffocate us with the acetone,” Penny chuckled.
“Thanks, Mom.”
The sound of latches opening and glass bottles clinking together tinkled through the air, and the shadow of Penny crossing to open the window behind the breakfast nook fell across the counter next to him.
The cool breeze of a San Diego fall evening washed in, much like the distant tide.
A few soft footfalls later, warm arms wrapped around him. “Pete, honey, you coming up soon?”
Cracking a smile at the muted gag from the dining table, he sighed, leaning back against her. “I’ll try—I have a shit-ton of paperwork that Cyclone dumped on me.
The disadvantages of being an instructor and squadron leader,” he ruefully smiled, though he didn’t really regret taking the TOPGUN job and the position of CO of the newly created VFA-223, the “Black Cloaks”, comprised entirely of the Daggers and those who had been selected for the detachment training—or Maverick’s Ducklings, as Cyclone had dubbed them.
She nodded against his back. “Alright, come to bed when you’re done, okay?”
“I’ll be there.”
It was one of the best decisions in his life to work at his relationship with Penny—they had no chance of working when he was younger; his soul was too haunted, his heart, mind, and body chasing ghosts while also fleeing from them, but now… well, now, his mother’s engagement ring was sitting in the drawer of his desk at work, just waiting.
For what, exactly, he wasn’t sure.
The right moment, he guessed.
Mav heard Penny’s footsteps start up the stairs just as he placed the last glass in the cabinet, and after a wistful exhale, he grabbed the reluctantly-owned attaché case that Ice would have cackled over him having, which contained the classwork from his TOPGUN students, and the relatively sensitive training run reports of the Black Cloaks, setting it down at the dining table, across from where Amelia was… doing something to her nails.
He began working on the papers, and soon realized she was doing her nails.
After a while, Amelia murmured, “How’s the paperwork going?” a smirk like her mother’s on her face.
Belatedly, he realized he’d been watching her work instead of reading his reports. “It’s uh… paperworking,” he muttered lamely.
“I bet it’s better than watching nail polish dry.”
He blinked—she had her mother’s and her grandfather’s dry wit, that was for sure.
After that pointed reminder, the two of them worked in silence, the sound of a bottle of clear polish eventually punctuating the air with a sound of finality.
She blew on her hands for a while, then set them down on the table.
He soon felt the weight of her stare, and let it rest on him for about five minutes before he interjected, “How’s the uh, manicure?”
“Good.
The paperwork?”
“… It’s…”
“Boring,” she dared, raising an eyebrow.
He debated the consequences of telling Amelia responsibility was boring, but the truth was, no matter how interesting the maneuvers were in the air, the constraints of report language made them boring.
“Yeah,” he admitted.
“Figured.” She blinked, thoughtful. “Do you have to do anything special with the paperwork?”
“Not really, just read them over, and make sure that what they’re saying in the report matches up with what happened in the air.
And then I have to grade my students’ homework.”
Amelia nodded, and after a pause, she asked, “You any good at multitasking?”
Even though he wasn’t sure where she was going with this, he replied, “Pretty good.”
It was part of his job after all, especially since he switched to single-seat; having to calculate things like AOA and airspeed relative to the limitations of his aircraft, all while flying faster than the speed of sound, among other things.
“Okay.
You read those reports and grade that homework.
I’m going to tell you about my day while I give you a manicure.” She inhaled, something hesitant in her eyes. “Unless… unless you don’t want me to bug you—it’s teenager stuff and all that—”
He cut her off, “I’d love to hear about your day, Amelia.”
It hit something in his heart to see the quickly concealed shock in her eyes.
Yet another strike for Penny’s dick ex-husband in Mav’s book.
“You would?”
“Yeah, of course, kiddo.
But uh,” Mav scratched the back of his neck, “is the manicure really necessary?”
Like a flash of lightning, she leaned over the table and grabbed his hand, scrutinizing each finger and his palm, wrinkling her nose in disgust. “Ugh—yeah.”
He hedged, “I’m pretty sure it’s against regs for me to have pink—”
“Relax, old man, there is such a thing as clear polish—Admiral Stick-in-the-Mud won’t see a thing.
And I need something to do too, I’m not even halfway tired yet.
Fixing your trainwreck hands oughta do the trick,” she gestured.
He laughed, switching the papers to his right hand. “Alright, Skylark, go to town.”
Amelia ducked her head and grabbed her nail file, failing to conceal her smile at the nickname he’d given her shortly after he and Penny got back together. “Okay, so, um, at school, math is my first subject, and honestly, whoever said math should be the first class of the day needs to be punished…”
Almost two and a half hours later, the paperwork was done, Mav’s nails were cut, filed, and polished, his cuticles trimmed, hands moisturized, and he knew every dirty, juicy secret of North Island High.
Amelia drowsily packed up her nail kit, which was the size of a small toolbox, while he did the same with his attaché case, and as a team, they checked the doors and windows of the house, making sure everything was secure.
The task done, they ended up back at the dining room. “All hatches battened down, Captain,” she sighed.
At his slightly perplexed frown, she rolled her eyes, “Seriously—you’re in the navy.”
“Like I told your mom, I don’t sail boats, I just land on them,” he chuckled.
“Well, it means everything’s good.”
He softly clapped his hands together, “Alrighty, let’s get to bed then.”
Amelia snorted, “God, you’re so old, who even says alrighty non-ironically anymore?”
“Alrighty isn’t cool anymore?”
“No.
Was it ever?”
“Uh…”
She shook her head, “Remind me to get you up to date, I can’t have you embarrassing yourself out there—you’ll lose all your cool.”
Mav immediately pointed, “So you think I’m cool?”
Caught like a deer in the headlights, she tried to backtrack. “I mean, don’t—don’t all you naval aviators think you’re like, the coolest or something?”
“No, no, no, no take-backsies; you think I’m cool,” he grinned.
She winced, “You’re killing me here—‘take-backsies’?”
“Come onnnn, Skylark.”
“Ugh, fine,” she groaned, “you’re—you’re sort of cool.”
“I’ll take it, kid.”
She smirked, then looked at her nail kit despairingly. “Seriously regretting bringing the whole thing down.
It’s heavy as hell.”
He reached for it, “Lemme get it for ya.”
Amelia attempted to bat his hands away, “No, I can carry it, Mav.”
“I got it—just focus on getting yourself up the stairs.”
She visibly debated the idea of arguing, but a yawn cut her off, and with the element of her eyes closed, he used the opportunity to gently wrap an arm around her shoulder and usher her up the stairs.
“You should have let me carry it—you’re too old to carry heavy stuff,” she muttered, mindful of her likely sleeping mother.
“I can carry this for you, don’t worry about me.
And next time you do my nails, you can carry it.”
They had arrived at her bedroom door, and she stopped short. “Next time?”
“Yeah, who else will help me get through my paperwork, take care of my hands, and let me know if Micah takes Kenna instead of Alyssa to Junior Prom?”
A smile curled the corner of her mouth. “I guess someone has to help you stay in the brass’ good graces so they don’t ship you out to the asscrack of America for not doing paperwork.”
“Can’t afford to leave you and your mom, Skylark.” And he really didn’t want to leave this time, not when he finally had so much to stay for.
“Or the chicken.
And the ducklings.”
“Yeah, them too,” Mav laughed quietly, similarly mindful of Penny, before handing the nail kit to her. “Anyway, here you go, Amelia.”
She took the nail kit, looking at him for a beat, like she had something to say, but wasn’t sure about whether to say it.
Finally, she said, “Thanks.
And, uh… I… I—I know I like giving you crap, but, I—I like—having you around, Mav.
And I—I…” she trailed off, pinching the bridge of her nose, “you know what, never mind, I’m rambling, your disaster hands made me tired.”
He knew that she wanted to say something else just then, but he let it go, not wanting to pry. “I really, really like being around too, Skylark, and if I have anything to say about it, I won’t be going anywhere.”
“That’s good,” she smiled, swallowing thickly. “I, uh, I better go—gotta get that good sleep.”
“Alright, kiddo, goodnight.”
“Night, Mav.”
After a sleepy smile, she softly shut her door, and he continued up the stairs, getting into bed beside a sleeping Penny, wrapping himself around her, quickly drifting off to sleep.
“Alright, Daggers, good work on the hop, head to the hangar, and we’ll review the maneuvers,” Mav clapped his hands, looking at his squad, most of whom dispersed to the aforementioned location, save for Bradley, who hung back.
“I seriously don’t know how you do it, you crazy old man,” Bradley laughed, his Caravans doing nothing to hide the child-like glee in his eyes. “I thought we’d all learned everything our first TOPGUN sessions and during the detachment training, but somehow, you manage to teach us something new every time.”
“Well, I got to make sure you kids know everything I do, so you all can continue to terrorize the Navy when I retire,” Mav grinned.
Bradley scoffed, “You say that like you’re going to turn in your papers today—we both know the brass’ll have to drag you from your F-18, Mav.” His son in everything but name and blood paused, a twitch of his mustache the only giveaway of his rising concern. “I mean—you’re not doing that any time soon—right, Dad?”
He wrapped an arm around Bradley, “Nah, not about to leave you to the skies just yet, Baby Goose.
Not until I make you all better than me.”
His “Until I make sure you can survive anything,” went unsaid, but his boy, ever perceptive, leaned into the contact and murmured, “Love you too, Dad.”
“Love you more—” Mav cut himself off as he went to run a hand through his hair, frowning at his hand.
There on his thumb, in bright, varnished red, was a neatly drawn heart, and the letter U.
Distantly, he heard Bradley say, “Mav?
Dad, you okay?
What’s wrong?”
“This wasn’t here last night,” he muttered, showing Bradley his thumb.
The worry eased from his son’s face, replaced with amusement. “You let Skylark do your nails?”
“Yes, I did—sue me—but Roo, this wasn’t there last night, I distinctly remember making Amelia use clear nail polish.”
Bradley took his hand, scrutinizing it. “It looks like there’s top coat on here, so she put this last night.”
Mav couldn’t help the surprise on his face.
“Sue me, sometimes Phoe makes me paint her toenails,” the younger pilot muttered.
“How is that possible—I saw my hands after she did it; this wasn’t there.”
Bradley thought for a second, before the metaphorical lightbulb lit up. “Invisible nail polish.”
“What?
That’s a thing?”
“Yeah—absolutely.
It goes on clear, but stand in the sun or heat up your hands, it’ll turn the color it’s supposed to be.”
As Mav absorbed this information, the puzzle pieces came together in his head, what Amelia had been trying to say before they said goodnight, and tears sprang to his eyes.
“Dad?”
“Amelia loves me, Baby Goose—I can’t bel—I don’t—”
Immediately, Bradley took him into his arms. “Hey; Dad, listen to me: you deserve all the love in the world, okay?
And I am so sorry for my hand in making you feel like you don’t deserve love, but you do, Dad—I can assure you, you do.
I’m really happy for you.
Maybe now, you can muster up the guts to bust out that box that’s been hiding in your desk.”
Mav gasped, “How did you—”
“I saw it when I asked for some Post-It’s last week.
Seriously, you didn’t even make an effort to hide it.”
“You—you’re not mad I didn’t tell you?” he gulped.
Bradley smirked, pulling back, “Dad, I knew this was coming a long time ago, and really, as long as you’re happy and healthy?
I’m on your wing.”
Mav reached up, cupping Bradley’s face. “You’re a good kid, Baby Goose.”
Regret twisted his boy’s face. “Could have been better.”
“I love you regardless, kid.
Now come on, they’re probably all wondering where we are, let’s debrief so we can get outta here sooner; I need your help at the mall.”
“Su—wait, what?” It was amusing to see Bradley stop right in his tracks.
“I need to get something for Amelia; but I don’t know where to start.”
“I…” the younger pilot opened and closed his mouth repeatedly, before finally shutting it with a click and sighing, “I guess we’re going shopping later for Skylark, then.”
Mav eagerly slapped him on the arm, wide grin on his face as he dashed back to the hangar, and Bradley tried to not to feel that this mall mission was like stealing an F-14 all over again.
“Pen, Skylark, I’m home!” Mav ventured, hoping for the first time, that Penny wasn’t home.
“Just me, Mav, Mom’s still at The Hard Deck!” Amelia called back, and relief flowed through him; it made this a whole lot easier.
He followed the sound of her voice to the dining room, where she was bent over a textbook, and he pulled up the chair next to her. “Hey kiddo, you got a minute?”
Amelia froze and swallowed thickly, shutting her textbook slowly, an unreadable expression on her face. “Mav, I swear, if you have gotten yourself shipped off again, I am not going to be the one to tell Mom—”
“No!” he yelped, “it’s not like that.
I just wanted to talk to you for a bit.”
“Okay,” she breathed, still skeptical.
He reached out and took her hands in his right. “I got your message.”
She frowned, “I didn’t call you this—” she cut herself off at his meaningful look at his hand. “Oh—that.” She frantically shook her head. “I—I was just playing with you, it doesn’t—“
“I don’t think you were,” he gently pressed.
“I—I—Mav,” she breathed, eyes wide, like a deer in the headlights.
He pulled her into his arms. “I love you too, Amelia.”
And God, it broke his heart to hear her gasp, “You do?”
“Swear on my wings, Skylark,” Mav solemnly nodded into her hair.
He held her tighter against him as she sniffled, her small frame trembling.
When her trembling and sniffles subsided, he drew back. “Now, I have a pretty big question to ask you, Amelia.
It’s one I’ve actually wanted to ask for a while, but something held me back; I think I’m ready to ask now.
You up for it?”
She swiped the back of her hand across her face. “Shoot.”
He pulled a small, black velvet box from his jacket pocket, and opened it, laying it on the table. “You think your mom would like that?”
Her jaw dropped. “You…”
“Mm-hmm.
I’m asking your permission to marry your mother.”
She dared, “Hypothetically, what if I say no?”
Mav inhaled, wincing, “I would ask you to reconsider, but I’d respect that.”
A deep frown creased her brow. “You would deny yourself happiness just because I didn’t want you to marry Mom?”
He took her hand again. “Amelia, you and your mom are a package deal; the last thing on earth I want is to come between you and your mother.
And if that means that this never gets used… well, so be it.”
Tears welled in her eyes, and her voice shook, “You love Mom, right?”
He couldn’t help a soft smile. “I’ve… I’ve loved your mom for a long time, kiddo.
Yeah, I love her.”
“And you’re not going anywhere anytime soon, right?”
“If I have my way, I’m not going anywhere.”
Wordlessly, she nodded.
“Yeah?”
Nodding again, she stated, “Yeah, you can marry my mom.”
“Thanks, Skylark,” he beamed, wrapping an arm around her. “You don’t know what that means.
And hey, I have something for you.”
Mav pulled out the small, white bag he’d tucked in his bomber. “I had an idea of what I wanted, and Bradley told me this store was a good place to find what I was looking for—apparently, he’s bought here before.”
Amelia carefully took the box out of the bag, revealing a silver Pandora bracelet with a double charm of a silver swooping bird encrusted with small blue stones, a small round medal behind it saying “Time to fly” with stylized birds on it, and a simple, custom silver medal engraved with his handwriting, saying, “I love you too.”
Mav couldn’t help rambling, “It’s a Pandora bracelet, you can add charms to it if you want, I just wanted to give you something special; I was always going to give you this even if you didn’t give me your permission to marry your mother—”
“Mav.
This… this is too much,” Amelia breathed, interrupting him.
He twisted his mouth self-effacingly. “Nothing’s too much for those I love.”
Tears welled in her eyes again, and this time, she lurched forward into his arms.
He held her for a long moment, before pulling back to look at her. “Now, I need your help.
You and I need to get your mom here early, and you need to help Brads when he comes over in a bit; he’s bringing the food.”
Amelia’s eyes lit up. “You’re going to ask her tonight, aren’t you?”
“That’s the plan.”
“Didn’t know you were capable of making a plan, Mav,” she smirked.
“I am amazing at making plans, Skylark—come on, let’s get to work.”
Under the pretense of Amelia being very under the weather, both she and Mav had managed to get Penny home before the sun had even gone down—Penny burst through the door, gasping for breath. “Pete—Ames?”
“Here, Mom,” she called out from her seat in the dining room, exchanging happy glances with Mav and Bradley.
“What’s wrong, how are you feel—” Penny stopped short when she caught sight of the trio of Mav, Bradley, and Amelia at the dining table with shit-eating grins on their faces, connecting the dots that she did have. “You weren’t feeling sick, were you?” she addressed her daughter.
“It was my idea, Pen, we didn’t know how else to get you home faster,” Mav sheepishly spoke up, throwing himself on the figurative sword.
“Pete!”
“What?
I wanted us to… celebrate—family, you know?
Have a family dinner with your kid, my kid.”
Amelia piped up, “And my allergies were acting up really bad today, Mom.”
“You’re a bad influence, Pete.”
He stood, approaching her, his million-watt smile on full brilliance. “Aww, you love me.”
She stared stonily, before her eyes softened and the corner of her lips tipped up under the assault of his gaze and smile. “Unfortunately.”
Amelia and Bradley playfully gagged simultaneously, causing both Penny and Mav to laugh, to which Bradley spoke up, “Well, I still have to heat up the food I brought, because we didn’t know when you’d get here, Penny, so why don’t you two go for a walk on the beach, do whatever two old people in love do?”
Mav teasingly pointed, “Remember who kicked your ass in hops this morning, Baby Goose,” while Penny crossed her arms, seamlessly picking up the thread, “And who can raise the price of your drinks, Rooster.”
Bradley raised his hands in surrender. “That is freaky as hell.
Let’s leave them to it, Skylark, I need a wingman in the kitchen.”
Without even a peep of protest, Amelia followed Bradley, but not before giving Mav a supportive wink.
“What was that about?” Penny narrowed her eyes at her boyfriend.
“What?”
“That wink Amelia sent you.”
“Did she?
I didn’t see anything.”
She tilted her head skeptically, but he continued, “Why don’t we take Baby Goose’s suggestion and go take a walk on the beach?
It’ll be nice, sweetheart.”
Despite the feeling that Mav was up to something, she nodded and laced her arm through his offered elbow for the suggested beach walk, not knowing the other hand tucked in his bomber pocket was wrapped around a little black velvet box.
It was a nice evening, warm, but with a breeze coming in off the ocean, and the sunset was gorgeous.
Penny walked along the shore, arm in arm with Mav, just enjoying each other’s company in a way they wouldn’t be capable of over thirty years ago.
They had both grown so much as people, in so many ways, big and small, and she tilted her head, briefly leaning it against his shoulder.
“Penny for your thoughts?” he murmured, a smile in his voice.
She chuckled, “You’re corny.
But I was thinking about us.”
“Hmm—good thoughts?”
“Yeah.
I don’t think we could have had this years ago.
I’m so glad that we have it now, before it was too late.”
He sighed heavily. “That’s on me, Pen.
I am more sorry than you know—so much wasted time.”
“Don’t beat yourself up, Pete; the time was right.
And we still have time, it’s not like either of us have a foot in the grave.”
“It’s less time than I’d like.”
She smiled softly, “You romantic.”
“I try,” he joked, soon growing serious. “But… as much as I wish it weren’t the case, I guess the time was right for us.
Even just five years ago… I’d have crashed and burned us, and there’d be no hope after that.
But now… look at us.”
“I know.”
“Penny… there’s so much I want to tell you, but I don’t know if I have the words to describe them,” he breathed, tone intense.
She ran her hand soothingly up and down his arm, knowing he was just collecting himself.
“I—with you, solid ground feels just as much like home as the sky always has.
Your love makes me feel free, when I’ve never wanted so much to stay in one place before.
You know all my issues, my shortcomings, my fears, and yet, you’re still here.
I don’t deserve a woman like you, but somehow, you chose me.”
“Pete—”
He stopped them, took both her hands in his, and slowly knelt in the sand, before he plucked a black velvet box from his jacket pocket. “All this is to say, Penelope Marissa Benjamin, will you make me the happiest man on earth and make me your husband?”
She gasped, her eyes darting from Mav’s earnest face to the beautiful solitaire diamond set in a simple band of yellow gold. “Isn’t it supposed to be ‘be my wife?’”
“I’m marrying up, here,” he grinned, continuing, “so what do you say?
Because Captain Benjamin-Mitchell definitely has a ring to it.
Though your dad would probably have a heart attack at the thought of me having his last name too.”
“I think he’s come around to you, actually—he calls you ‘that damn Maverick’ instead of ‘that fucking Mitchell’, nowadays.”
Mav tilted his head from side to side, considering. “I’ll take it.
So… marry me?”
“Yes.
Yes, I will,” she breathlessly replied.
“Oh, thank God,” he muttered, delight shining in his eyes, his hands shaking as he placed the ring on her finger.
It fit perfectly, and Mav wistfully sighed. “My mom would be so happy to see this now.
This was hers, you know.”
Her eyes widened, and she looked at the ring again, the vintage cut of the diamond now obvious to her. “Oh, Pete.”
His eyes grew glassy, and Penny immediately wrapped him in an embrace.
“I love you, Pen.”
She could hear the emotion in his voice, and she held on tighter, matching his own grip on her. “I love you too.”
When she felt his hold on her loosen, she pulled back, cupping his face in her hands. “You okay?”
Mav leaned into her touch. “I am now.”
“Good.”
“The kids should have dinner ready by now.” He sniffled, clearly thinking of something. Finally, he asked, “Uh, would you mind… helping me up?
My uh, knee is a little stiff.”
Penny chuckled, shifting her hands to help her now-fiancé up, a surprised little yelp escaping her when Mav spun the two of them in a circle, his joyful laugh singing through the air.
Mav took in the scene at the dining table before him like it was a fine wine; Amelia and Bradley were animatedly sharing stories from high school, trying to see who had the weirdest stories, both of them sending him “Can you believe this?” glances when they thought the other wasn’t looking; Amelia’s bracelet catching the light as she swept her hand in an expansive gesture; Penny at his side laughing at the stories Amelia and Bradley were telling, while she repetitively ran her thumb across his knuckles, his mother’s ring sparkling on her hand.
He never in a million years could have imagined he’d have this at this point in his life; in all honesty, he had been prepared to burn in over some foreign sea or land, decades ago.
But here he was.
And if not for his wingman ordering him to teach an impossible mission, this reality would doubtlessly be impossible.
Gratitude filled his heart, and he sent a thought to the heavens; “Thank you, Ice—for everything.”
High above the San Diego night sky, a singular star blinked, sending back, even though its intended recipient would never know; “You’re welcome, Mav.”
Title is from the song of the same name.
(I really like to name stories after songs, don’t I?)
I headcanon Mav as being neurodivergent, and for me, as someone with ADHD, more often than not, having something else to focus on in the background, helps me get something that I am directly focused on done.
Invisible nail polish does exist, though let’s suspend our disbelief about how dark it can turn if the pre-change color is clear…
The charms I describe are real—you can see the bird charm here, and Pandora does offer an engraving service to make charms with your handwriting on them!
I’ll leave it up to your imagination as to who Bradley purchased Pandora for…
(That’s not teasing, I’m genuinely leaving it up to you)

Can someone help me find some bitty sans fanfics? I’m pretty sure it’s two and they were here on tumblr.
1.Bitty uf sans/red getting adopted by reader and slowly warming up to them. When reader first gets him he runs away and hides under furniture like the couch and I’m pretty sure reader has to lure him out with food, reader buys him a little house and furniture and stuff he can cook with, basically furnishes the tiny home but one day reader comes home and flops in bed and starts crying and he does his best to comfort them.
2. I’m pretty sure this was a headcannons post with most of the au’s but anyway reader goes into a shop with bitty’s looking to adopt one or two. I think at had the sans and papyrus’s but I could be wrong anyway the part I really remember was when they described blue/us sans being super excited and basically being really affectionate towards reader and more or less clinging to them, I think red/uf sans bit them in the post too but I wouldn’t swear on it. (I’m pretty sure it had both sans’s and papyrus’s and multiple au’s like classic, uf, us, and fs/sf) I think at the end of each headcannon they describe reader going shopping for them like, getting clothes, food, etc but I could be mistaking the last part for another fic.
It’s been so long since I read them and I looked here on tumblr and googled it but I can’t find them anywhere. Does anyone know what happened to them? Were they deleted? If so please tell me, I’d like some closure. Also sorry if I got some details wrong, it’s been so long and my memory is fuzzy. Any help or answers are appreciated!

I TOLD YALL ID CRY
YES YES YES YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY MAKE FICS!!! The Blackbird one already has a lil angsty then fluffy fic that I'm writing but it's nowhere NEAR done😭😭
This is genuinely so sweet. Yes I'd love to interact more!!! I always get so excited seeing comments and getting pms from people. I have a post with my discord account if you'd like to add me there!! I have a server that's really only two people right now! It's a Bones cult!!!!!
I will gladly take that rock and forehead kiss. And yes!! I fucking love it here. Only downside is that I can't be a cetologist round here very well. I've been to Texas and am probably going back down to San Antonio this summer! I went down last year to see My Chemical Romance and may be goin to see blink-182. I love Texas, I miss it every day.
I honestly don't know who this is and I don't know if that's embarrassing but like- RAHH

Random update on my journey to become a pretentious film buff:
I've been trying to push for a movie a day, at least. Sometimes two if I'm lucky. Sometimes none if I'm lazy. But after my last post where I watched the entire Alien Franchise (sans AvP and Romulus), here's what I've been watching:
Psycho: Yes, I finally watched the original Psycho. To be honest, I've always had a problem watching older movies, so I was surprised at how easy it actually was to watch this one. It was pretty good, though perhaps for the wrong reason. I was honestly laughing through most of it over just how bad these people were at committing crimes and getting away with them. Like that girl was acting so incredibly sus in front of that cop for no good reason. Anyways, 4/5 stars I guess (I'm using Letterboxd to keep track of this).
X & Pearl: In case you don't know, those are two separate movies but they're related via the main character. I watched X first, and Pearl second. Not sure what the intended order of it actually was though, but whatever. It wasn't too bad in that order. Both I thought were pretty good, though I kind of preferred X to Pearl because I thought the "antagonist" motivations in X were...let's just say unique. I can't recall a time where I've seen that particular motivation used. I gave X a 3/5.
Pearl was still pretty good, I just liked X better. Unless you're an idiot like me, the connection between these two movies is pretty obvious, but it tripped me up at first so I didn't wind up understanding it until the very end. Anyways, this movie's good. 3/5 stars (these are arbitrary lol).
Boy Kills World: The one and only non-Horror movie I watched recently. I'm not exactly trying to focus on horror, it's just sort of accidental at this point. I'm in a horror mood so I'm just bingeing horror movies I haven't seen. I swear I watch other stuff too lol.
Anyways, this movie was about as good as one could probably expect it to be. It's just a cheesy, dumb action flick. The plot is middling, but it works. The plot twist is alright. I didn't see it coming exactly, but I also wasn't like "omg no way, what!?", it was just a thing that happened, ya know? Overall, I think my only criticism is that it felt like it was missing a second act. Bill Skarsgard is insanely nice to look at throughout the entire movie though so that's a plus. 3 1/2 stars.
Brightburn: I'm gonna be honest, I didn't care for this movie. It tries to go with the whole "bad guys win" ending that, to me, just fell flat because I don't really give a shit about the bad guy. I'm not sure if I'm meant to feel for him inherently because he's a child, but he's a pretty boring as fuck child so I wound up not caring when he inevitably won. 2/5 stars.
Smile: This movie was OK, but it really felt like that scenario when someone asks to copy your homework and you tell them to just change a few of the details. The one who's homework they're copying of course is It Follows. They have very similar premises, only instead of the monster passing through sex like a shitty STD, this monster passes through trauma like a shitty ex. Personally, I think It Follows did it better. 3/5 stars.
The First Omen: The last on this update, I just finished this right before writing this and it was alright? So, perhaps controversially, I've yet to see The Omen (watching it literally as I type this) so this movie didn't do much for me. I understand it's setting up The Omen though, so that's where the supposed payoff is, but I personally think movies should be able to stand up by themselves, even if they're connected to a franchise, and I'm not sure this one does.
This movie left me confused. It focuses hard on this young girl, leading you to believe she's vitally important and you reasonably assume she's the key figure or "MacGuffin" in this movie, only for us to find out that she's not, and it's actually the main character who's the important one. But then I'm left wondering why I spent the last hour and a half of this two hour movie focused on a red herring.
Not to mention, there's a lingering question I had by the end when everything is burning down which is... if y'all have the actual fucking Devil chained up in your basement as your demonic sperm donor, why the fuck do you need the antichrist so bad?
I'm also just kind of curious about their overall motivations here. Like, we're told that they belong to a different sect of the church who believes that they need to make bad things happen so that more people are drawn to the faith, which at face-value I'm like okay cool, reasonable motivation I guess. But then what is the plan with the antichrist then? They have him get raised by some well-off politician (to set up the Omen) but then what? Presumably you intend to kill him at some point? Is the idea to let him get powerful enough to show everyone he's the legit antichrist, but not so powerful that he doesn't wind up destroying the world like he's meant to? It's just confusing is all, I don't know. Hopefully the Omen explains it. Or the Omen II. Or III. Or IV lol. Anyways, 3/5.

9 people you'd like to know better
I was tagged by @rainy-circle! Oh my gosh! It has been a while, hello!!
1. Three ships:
a.) Benson/Mordecai from "Regular Show" (classic, and the most relatable)
b.) Mipha/Revali from "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" (it's my dream fairytale ship), and most recently, surprisingly(?)
c.) Caine/Pomni from "The Amazing Digital Circus" (omg, literally just a few days ago?!) (also experimenting chaotic/anxious duos, and dang do THEY embody that!?)
2. First ever ship: My very first most passionate hardcore ship was either Ink!Sans/Error!Sans, or Reaper!Sans/Geno!Sans. Both from their respective Undertale AUs! Maybe I shipped them both at the same time, who knows? (Still can't believe my first ship is sanscest lol.)
3. Last Song: No Exit by longestsoloever (replayed it like 3 digits, only knew the song yesterday😭)
4. Last Film: Barbie (2023). Only watched it a few weeks ago, and it's AWESOME!
5. Currently reading: ...Does drabbles of Caine/Pomni in AO3 count hehe?
6. Currently watching: The Amazing Digital Circus! (Go watch it peeps! It's SO GOOD! It deserves the hype!)
7. Currently consuming: Just had spicy noodles earlier I guess.
8. Currently craving: Literally, something hearty, umami, and spicy (again). Figuratively, MOTIVATION (because I seem to lack the energy of doing stuff I REALLY LOVE for some reason, I hate that I'm like this).
Now for my 9 mutuals, where you at? I want to know more of you peeps around!
@mrbigboisprite @loneliness-suffering @starstriix @ambersuperstar @apocalypticinsomnia @tsugiset @e-ampersand-c @matchamabs @raitnrong
Also, to my mordeson and miphvali mutuals, I'm sorry if I haven't been interacting with you all in Discord for almost a...YEAR now? I swear, my mind just...sucks ass. I'm still here, and not dead lol. The reality I'm currently experiencing in this mortal plane has made me feel pretty overwhelmed, and stuck. Maybe I'm experiencing some 20's existential crisis haha? But anyway, just letting you all know I'm pretty much alright, and sane enough to push through. Hope you're all doing fine and well there. Miss you guys.
I swear I'll come back. And chat and stuff like we used to. I'll just get myself, and my mind to sort things out (hoping before the end of the year because it's been taking forever)...and also my Discord account (stupid password).
Sorry for the rambling, have fun tagging and posting stuff though!

The World's Favorite Star (A Bokuaka fanfic)
Chapter 1: "Take Me Out To Dinner First" Bokuto's POV
Notes:
Blessed second day of Samhain to all who celebrate (pronounced Sohwin)
I'm so proud to finally post my second fic please don t hesitate to leave kudos and a comment or more and tell me what you think of it <3
My Name is Bokuto Koutaro,
I'm a Volleyball player in my school's club and I'm currently at [Unknown name] Middle School
Our club Manager is this insanely cute boy, Akaashi Keiji, he's one year younger than me, he knows so much about Volleyball and he would've probably been a good player then too if he tried.
One time, he even told me he'd want to play alongside me in high school.
He is probably the smartest person I know, he always knows what to do whenever I'm feeling down. Today is Valentine's day and I bought the biggest bouquet of flowers for him, that shot was expensive but definitely worth it.
Akashi was known for having rejected dozens of girls and guys last Valentine's day and he tried to make it the least awkward as possible, telling girls he's not into women and telling guys he already has a crush on someone else. Every guy that was into him wanted to be that "someone else", so what made me different from the others? I was just another desperate Pansexual that fell head over heals for the most beautiful boy that ever existed. But I was his star, that's what he called me, and I'm convinced that MUST mean something. No homie calls another homie his "star" in a no homo way, no amount of saying no homo would be able to cancel the homo out of that sentence that I fear has worked on me one too many times.
I approached his classroom's open door around lunchtime, he was the only one there. But how should I do it? I had a big ass bouquet behind my back and it would be OBVIOUS what I wanted to say. And then lightning struck, I approached his desk with the flowers behind my back, put my best acting mask on and spoke up, "AKAASHI!", just saying his name gave me butterflies, "not to sound rude but you're into guys right?", my legs were shaking. I think I'm a terrible actor. He looked up at me with those beautiful blue eyes,
"Hello, Bokuto-san", if you think you're polite than you haven't met Akashi, he's the most polite person I have ever met. "I am actually, why?" I couldn't back out anymore, "So like, if I ever wanted to ask a guy out, how would I do it?" Akashi was frozen for a moment, his blue eyes looked at me and I was about to freak. The fuck. Out.
"I guess it depends on who you plan to ask out, but", he paused. "You should honestly just go for it. The worst that can happen is getting rejected", he added.
"Just go for it. Stop standing there like an idiot!" I thought to myself. I had the flowers, I had Akaashi alone. It was now or never!
I revealed the bouquet from behind my back, which was definitely visible even from behind, and out of panic I shoved the flowers in his face.
"D-Do you want to marry me?"
I had never been more embarrassed in my entire life. How did I mix up "go out with me" and
"marry me"?
Akashi started laughing, of course he did. Why would he want to go out with me? ESPECIALLY after this.
He pulled something out of his backpack and pointed it towards me, "How about a date first?" I lowered to bouquet so that I could see him, he was pointing a rose towards me. No, he was giving me a rose.
"You really wanna go out with me?", I was shocked
"I was going to ask you out today anyway, you just made it easier for me", I swear his eyes turned into literal hearts, or maybe it was my eyes that did that. "I'm not saying I don't want to marry you, just take me out to dinner first", he said nonchalantly. All I know is that he took my bouquet, I took his rose and he kissed my cheek, barely a millimeter away from my lips and that I had a date with the cutest boy in the world.
I was on cloud 9 the whole day, at practice I kept sneaking glances at Akashi and got a balli thrown at my face because of it. We decided to meet at the Valentine's Day Festival that night, Tokyo really went all out no matter the festivity, the whole thing was Love themed and there were couples everywhere. I put on my best clothes but you couldn't really tell with the jacket. Akaashi lived next to his parents' library, his parents are like, the coolest ever but that's not what we're focusing on here. He came out with a cream jacket and he had one of the roses I gave him earlier behind his hear, it had some kind of gold colored wire around the stem and his ear so it wouldn't fall out. "Good Evening, Bokuto-san", he said with a huge smile on his face, his voice was happy but shaky. "Uh-Uh...Hi! Um- so- well-", he grabbed the left side of my face and interrupted me, "Don't stress it, Bokuto-san. Take your time", he reassured me.
"You look beautiful tonight, Akaashi", I said completely flustered and looking away. His face was also pretty red.
"And you look so much like my dream husband.", he teased me again
"Oh my god! I got my words mixed up once! Will you ever let me live that down?", I asked hiding my face in my hands
"Not until you marry me", he said completely serious and smiling at me.
"Can I hold your hand?", he asked me, extended his hand and looked away.
I grabbed said hand and squeezed, "You don't even have to ask."
The Festival wasn't that far away so we decided to walk there, we were so nervous we looked like robots holding hands as we walked there.
First we got something to eat on the go, I got a Yakisoba Pan while he got a simple Melonpan.
• There were a few street performers dancing which we stopped to admire, Akashi pulled out a little notebook from his jacket pocket,
"Whatcha doin?", I asked
"Just sketching the dancer", he responded
"Looks pretty accurate", I pointed out
"Thanks! It's just a hobby but I would love to work in the art field some day", he said
"You totally should, you're really good", I said He blushed, "You're just saying that to be nice"
"No, I mean it! You have some actual talent you know?", his face got even redder but he had this adorable, dorky smile on his face, "Thank you"
On our way to the ferris wheel I won him a huge panda plush at one of those shoot the can games, which took several tries. When we got on we were both visibly nervous, this was a small cramped space we had to share, what if I said something weird and he'd get totally grossed out and we had to sit threw the awkwardness for the whole ride?
As the ride started Akashi squeezed my hand a little and lightly put his head on my shoulder and with that simple act all my anxiety faded away.
Have you ever felt so comfortable with someone where you'd wish you could be with them all the time and a moment alone with them felt like nobody else was on the planet except for you two at this exact moment? That's how life felt in that moment. And those few minutes of silence felt to me like a thousand words had just been spoken. I was actually kind of sad the moment ended when we had to get off the ferris wheel.
"You're still sleeping over right? I don't want you to walk alone this late at night", he said although it was just 10
"Yeah I'm not a fan of the dark really and I have all my stuff at your place already anyway.", after I said that I could almost see the gears turning in Akaashi's brain,
"Wanna go to the love tunnel?"
Notes:
Some things that weren't detailed here will probably be more detailed in Akashi's Pov.
So yeah you're going to have to wait for Chapter 3 for the love tunnel and sleepover.
I gotta give you a reason to come back now don't I?
Hope you liked this Chapter, Lots of Love,
Sasha <3

Okay so I just stayed up till 3am reading starring role and after putting it off for a while and honestly I can’t believe I ever did that?!?! Something wrong with me fr but this fic is just 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽
Okay let’s start of with our main girl!! I just want to hug her so bad. Although nothing excuses her behaviour towards Boyoung, I get why she’s the way she is especially to someone like yeosang. I hate how everyone seas as this ditzy, rich girl with no brain. But the worst has got to be her parents - her mum and me will throw hands I swear. And what’s even more heartbreaking is how you can tell she clearly misses her brother but like wtf happened? I can’t wait for the reveal for that? I can only imagine it’s drugs related but knowing her I’m sure she took it up a notch. In a time where she probably needs her brother the most he’s not there and I’m sad about it.
Okay Choi fking San, like you warned us, but honestly makes my blood boil ESPECIALLY after he had the absolute gall to come BACK to her after his failed relationship. Again nothing excuses the reader to say what she said to Boyoung but nothing excuses San to say what he did either. And his friends are so mean and for what? But now with the reveal of why Yeonsang is the way he is I’m excited to see what he does or says to her now. I just saw someone ask if San will leak her secrets after she confronted Yeosang and omg??? That will be honestly the worst thing he could ever do 💔 also when she realised that San is just some guy ™️ was actually so funny to me
I love Wooyoung and I just adore how close they became, he deserves the words and a sweet boyfriend!
Joonie is also another sweetheart, I love that he wants to progress her art work and just be her friend!!
Also not the stray kidz cameos 👀🫰🏽
Okay so now Mingi!!!!!!!!! This guy had my heart flip flopping all over the place it was unreal! Get why your pissed at her when she was mean to your bestie but then???????? Treating her like she a dumbass then being all sweet and generally making her seem like a better person and her valentines gift 😭😭😭 all for him to just spew out all that shit? Almost in tears 😔 He honestly needs to get his head out of his ass.
This fic is a rollercoaster and I really can’t wait to see what happens next and things getting revealed etc!! You’re amazing and have great day!
omggggggggg thank you so much!!!!
well yn isnt the nicest person in general😭 she's pretty mean and self-centered but that's her character so yeah she was pretty shitty to boyoung. she'll talk about seonghwa more in the next chapter and he'll have a pretty interesting arc by the end lmfao
i thought of writing a chapter from san's pov which wouldn't be really a chapter but something in the form of e-mails i guess?? but i decided against it bc my life is kind of a mess rn and i just want this story to successfully reach its end. but later on when i'm better and if i'm in the mood for it, i might post that chapter as an additional part bc i already have a good chunk of it written out...we'll see. i think it would be interesting to write from his perspective bc i know a lot of people wonder about him and it was pretty fun to write the bonus part
there will be so much of wooyoung in the next chp and it will be mostly sad but he's my baby so..
also in the last couple of chapters i've completely neglected joong but thats bc he was mostly linked to yn by mingi and professor ahn so when everything went to shit between them i kinda lost how to include joong in the story BUT i think he will also appear in the next chapter.
and mingi omggggggggggg i cant wait for him to come back, he'll be so pathetic and there's nothing i love writing more than men being pathetic and grovelling so i'm excited for that!
anyways thank you for reading once again and for this lengthy message!! have a nice day
